Neverland System Beta Announcement
Tumblr media
Are you ready for something strange?
Five years ago, the world got weirder. It made sense of everything that followed, but that didn't help us poor schmucks caught in the crossfire. America was sealed off from the rest of the world, a vast network of demonic birds preventing anyone from fleeing the country. Fascists occupied the seat of the state, and violence and brutality was felt all over the country.
But there was still hope. The very reason America had been sealed away could be its salvation. The fae creatures known as Neverlanders are spilling out into America, cartoon creatures and demonic lawyers with a passion for drama and lunatic antics. The magical warriors also stand up to protect us, Divines who were once mortal but now wielding the great power of fairytale bullshit! With their efforts, we may be free. Our chains are designed to be broken!

The Neverland System is a tabletop game played with a deck of tarot cards and a big pile of PBTA-inspired moves. Failure is success and success can be torn from failure. Players only die when they want to and can literally bottle their feelings into jars before weaponizing and exploiting them.
There's no dice, but there is a tarot deck. ♥♦♣♠ Between tarot interpretations, snappy combat and courts (your standard fae classes) drenched in literary themes, you'll always be able to find a way out of any given situation and into a predictably worse one.

If you're interested in joining watch parties to observe pre-recorded sessions (we've got 10 hours so far!) or learning more about the system, radical. Stay subscribed and you'll see stories from the revamped Neverland System and watch party streams for the beta-tester's adventures.
I am re-writing my old stories, sorry to my readers who found me through those. A lot of changes happened to the system, oops. It's so much cleaner now, but it means I had to stop writing full stop to make sure I was done first. But you'll be able to get a good taste of that soup soon! Stay subscribed.
If you're interested in joining the beta, please contact me at FernGilly#0083 on Discord so I can vibe-check you before letting you into the inner sanctum.
Art for this post is by Gemini's Daughter, my good friend Bug and @rigormarcy! You won't be able to find Bug anywhere, they're practically a ghost, but you can find Oveja at https://ko-fi.com/geminisdaughter !

I love the licensed doctor who ttrpg where the author clearly has some sort of personal disdain towards non human or campy player characters but contractually can't exclude them (on account of it's doctor who) so instead opts to passive aggressively bully people out of playing aliens and having funny names

I think where a lot of attempts to do "Dungeons & Dragons-style" settings in alternative milieux go wrong is that they're imitating the explicit trappings of standard D&D settings without putting a whole lot of thought into why those trappings are the way they are. Your standard D&D setting is essentially gonzo sword and sorcery fantasy, and there's a very particular internal logic to it which isn't necessarily going to be obvious examining it in isolation.
For example, one of the more common sword and sorcery fantasy tropes which strongly informs D&D-style settings is the convention that "monsters" are usually something protagonists can talk to (and have stupid arguments with), even – and often especially – when it would be incongruous for them to be so chatty in a more conventional fantasy setting. If you want to carry that over, it's not enough to go "well, D&D settings have chatty dragons, so my setting should have chatty dragons, too"; you need to think carefully about what things qualify as "monsters" in your setting, and what role they play in it.
Basically, what I mean to say is that if you're transposing D&D-style worldbuilding into a steampunk milieu, player characters should definitely be able to talk to the trains.

my take on adult!ib and mary post the “together forever” ending.
what if they came back to the gallery though. gallery adventures pt. 2. where they will certainly not meet anyone they’ve met before. and shenanigans certainly won’t ensue.

Need to punch up the difficulty of a combat encounter? Just add 12 kobolds regardless of any other context!
Attacked by wolves? 12 kobolds show up and help the wolves! Exploring an ancient tomb that hasn't seen the light of day in 1000 years? Somehow, there's 12 kobolds at the end alongside the final boss.
The system doesn't even matter: offend the Prince of the city and he sends a batch of vampire thugs to make you not a problem? 12 kobolds!

Looking at mech chassis, as you do. Amber Phantom at the time and I think to myself about mounting a Superheavy on it. Don't ask why, I'm allowed to make bad choices.
So I check the superheavy mounting core power to remind myself how it works, and quickly go "Oh right, you can't have three mounts already". But then it got me thinking about other chassis with three non-Heavy weapon mounts.
Tumblr media
The Tokugawa is another chassis that is forever barred from the glory of Superheavy Barrages. The Gorgon another.
But all of the Size 0.5 chassis? None of them are disqualified from using their few mounts as superheavy bracing. It's a terrible idea on most, but a legal modification to make.
Tumblr media
It's a rules-legal setup and reasonable balancing decision... but it's just so wrong that a Size 0.5 Dusk Wing can haul around and fly with a Leviathan Heavy Assault Cannon and my giant queen Size 2 Gorgon is far too frail to ever lift even a Heavy Machine Gun.

If you're into Indie RPGs, my pal Quinn Murphy just launched a Kickstarter for the 2nd edition of his game "Community Radio—where players act out scenes in a creepy, isolated town and the GM acts as a public radio station host who covers (and covers-up) the news.
Quinn will be on my show this Friday morning at 8:30am US Central to discuss his approach to game design, what he learned between the 1st and 2nd editions of Community Radio, and his advice on folks who want to create their own games.
