Sweeping away his competition with a constant lead and a final victory by 22%, Shen (Yuan) Qingqiu has officially beaten Qi Rong and been crowned the MXTX character that was/would be most insufferable if given access to the internet!
In the end, it turns out that this whole elaborate tournament was for naught. Even Qi Rong, the man voted more annoying that 63 other characters, cannot hold a candle to the sheer degree of insufferable that we know our dear Peerless Cucumber was and would be. Absolutely nobody can compare to Shen Yuan's canon keyboard warrior antics.
Thank you all for joining me on this journey! I hope everyone had fun voting in this tournament, as I know I had a lot of fun running things and watching everyone's hot takes. Shen Yuan may have rendered all but the very final round of voting moot with his sheer loveable obnoxiousness, but maybe the real most insufferable people online are the friends we made along the way :).

so a few days ago i watched the episode where house treats an autistic kid (s03e04) and i'm still hung up on it, because i genuinely can't tell what the writers want us to think re: whether or not house is autistic
basically they spent the whole episode showing house being very autistic and then at the very end had wilson say, "nah he just wants to be autistic to excuse his assholery" (which. yikes. but moving on)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i mean is the audience supposed to see wilson as a reliable voice here? aka all house's autistic signs were written as some kind of bait and switch? "lol you thought house was autistic bc he was doing all these autistic things but really he just wishes he were autistic to explain his behavior!"
except. bestie he DID do all those autistic things. he legit couldn't tolerate his office with the new carpet. He did identify with the autistic kid, and they made a huge deal out of the fact that house was the only one who figured out how to calm him down. my man stims nonstop. he has sensory issues. he knows social rules bc he's obsessed with analyzing human behavior, but he openly states that the rules do not actually make sense to him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
like i'm happy to just have a headcanon that fills the gap between what the writers seem to want us to think vs what their story is actually showing us (done that many a time) . . . but usually i can at least tell what the writers' intentions even are?

I donā€™t understand it when people say that Carrie was also the problem bc she was anxiously attached bc like ā€¦. maybe she had a moment or two but for the most part it was absolutely Big being such a selfish prick and then justifying it w ā€œohhh I have commitment issues bc my last marriage fell throughā€ umm ur a 45 year old BABY actually
#and like at every turn Big was so awful to her and she would justify it w ā€œIā€™m also the problemā€#Girl no#like when he refused to show her in public for the longest time#Or when he literally dropped a bomb that he was going to Paris out of NOWHERE#Refusing to meet her friends#Talking to her on his schedule and his schedule only#Being like ā€œI wanna do things at my own paceā€ okay but thatā€™s not how a relationship comprising two ppl works#And then marrying a brown eyed brunette socialite#The antithesis of Carrie#Was a transparently bad Big moment in the show but still#The show treads around in circles w regards to how to view Big#Bc they obviously wanna paint him as an unhealthy avoidant and also downright selfish asshole#But they also wanna be like ā€œheā€™s j too scared to give her the keys to his house bc of his other relationshipsā€#Like he literally played her like a FIDDLE#only to have them end up together ????? I will never understand that ending#I think itā€™s such weak writing#In real life avoidant men who also donā€™t want u that much wonā€™t end up w u I fear#I donā€™t really understand the narrative weighing Carrie w the responsibility of adjusting to Bigā€™s ā€œtraumaā€ and fixing him#He did that for her maybe once in the show but even when heā€™s being affectionate to her it comes from#A selfish place#Like he wants her attention or wants sex or whatevs like itā€™s never bc heā€™s truly in love w Carrie

Steve, Gareth and Chrissy are cousins AU (sad edition) [prologue] [part 1] [part 2] [part 3] [part 4] [part 5] [Part 6] [Part 7] [Final Part]
Steve climbs into the back of Nancy's car with Dustin, trying his best to play off his mood as having slept poorly in the Wheeler's basement, instead of the guilt and sorrow churning inside him. He had been hoping to be able to make excuses to go home for a bit today, away from the group, so he could go to Chrissy's funeral.
Doesn't seem like that will be happening. Not unless he tells them the truth. They're going to the Creel house and Steve can't let them ago without him. Can't let them walk into potential danger if he's not there.
Because Chrissy's already dead. He can't change that. But he can try his damnedest to make sure there's no one else. So, it's more important to him to be there with the living, than at a funeral. Chrissy would agree.
Chrissy would understand.
Right?
Tumblr media
Gareth sits through Chrissy's funeral and notes that Steve's not there. No one from the Harrington household is. He doesn't know what to feel about that. All his sorrow has been spent on Chrissy, so all he feels for Steve is anger. What the fuck is more important to Steve right now than being here? For his family. For Chrissy. For him.
He sits next to Jason even though his mom left a spot next to her available for him. He's not suddenly Jason's best friend, but he was told they plan to continue their search immediately after the funeral, and if he sat next to his mom, she wouldn't let him go.
This is how he finds himself at Reefer Ricks, long past the mandated curfew with just Jason, Andy, and Patrick. The others having slowly dropped off the search the closer to night it got.
"Hey," Gareth calls out to Jason before entering the house, "I'm going to go check if Eddie's van is hidden where he usually parks it when he comes out here."
Jason pauses on his way through the door. He looks over his shoulder and gives a nod, "yeah, smart thinking. There should be a flashlight in the back of the car."
Gareth nods back and heads back to the car. It doesn't take long to find the flashlight and soon he's walking down the road. It's not a long walk, about fifteen minutes away is a cluster of trees that Eddie parks at when he comes to get more goods from Rick. Gareth (and their other friends) spent plenty of afternoons waiting in the van for Eddie to return from his 'job', as it were. It does keep the van out of sight of any road, though.
The van is there, and Gareth doesn't like what he sees. The driver side door is open, so he approaches slowly. "Eddie? You in there, Eddie?" he gets no response. He shines the flashlight through the back door's window, smooshing his face against the glass to look in. Once he's sure it's empty of anything, he approaches the open door and examines the front.
The keys are still in the ignition. Door left open and keys still in the ignition paints a story Gareth isn't sure he wants to read. That makes worry curl inside his body. He can't think of a single thing that would make Eddie abandon the van this quickly, too... scared? Worried? to bother to even close the drive door. He climbs in to try and start it but it won't. With the door left open for over 72 hours, the battery is dead.
He pockets the keys and locks up the van. If worse comes to worst, he can return the keys to Wayne.
He's almost back to the house when he hears shouting. He starts running, following the noise, and quickly finds Jason and Patrick on the shore, pulling their shoes off. His gaze flicks out to the lake and catches the sight of what can only be Eddie trying to get the motor of a motorboat started.
Well. Shit.
He doesn't think much more beyond that. He's just acting. He steps on the heels of his shoes to get out of them as quickly as possible and dives into the water. He's only seconds behind Patrick and Jason into the water, slowing to keep pace with them at first.
Gareth grew up in the Harrington swimming pool just like Steve had. Chrissy had. He's never been so glad for that as he is now, as he quits trying to pace himself and takes off, leaving Jason and Patrick behind.
Eddie's swinging the oar around wildly, as if they would stop any of them. He falters in his swinging when his eyes land on Gareth and he breathes out his name, "Gareth?"
One final stroke and Gareth can reach out of the water and grab the side of the boat. He doesn't haul himself aboard, but does haul himself high enough to look up at Eddie. "The police say you did it. Did you?"
Hurt flashes across Eddie's face but he answers, "No."
Gareth nods once, a decision made. Before he can respond though, Jason's caught up and Eddie is turning in the boat to wave the oar uselessly at him.
Clinging to the side of the boat gives Gareth a clear view of Patrick, who has stopped swimming. Jason and Eddie shout at each other as Gareth watches Patrick being to rise out of the water. "What the fucking shit!?"
Gareth doesn't know if Jason turns to look, he's too busy staring, wide-eyed and slack-jawed.
"Don't look," Eddie says and the boat jostles as Eddie moves suddenly, dropping to his knees in the boat and throwing his hands up to block Gareth's view.
"What the fuck-" Gareth cuts himself off when he hears the snapping of bones. Jason is yelling and Gareth panics, pushes back from the boat, which makes Eddie lean more to block his eyesight, causing Eddie to fall out of the boat. On instinct, Gareth dives for him, the month and month spent in Steve's pool, hearing about pool safety kicking in.
Eddie doesn't really need rescuing, but he doesn't fight Gareth during the rescue. Patrick is no longer in the air when they breach the surface, and Jason is swimming back the way they came. Eddie flops himself back into the boat, then helps Gareth in as well.
They don't speak again until they've reached the other shore, in which case they just sit in the boat, soaked through, panting at each other as the adrenaline fades.
"What the fuck was that!?" Gareth doesn't shriek. He doesn't.
Eddie suddenly looks very severe and grim when he says, "that's what killed Chrissy."

Alicent after her husband damns her children, the ones he forced onto her, the ones she carried and birthed and loved and spent her whole life protecting. after he leaves her, dying a pathetic death, leaving her and her children alone in the world, even more than he had before. after her children are robbed from her, meeting fates promised to them at birth, ones she tried so hard to change. after being left to roam an empty keep, the sounds of her children's antics now long gone. after hearing her own cries echo in the septs, but never reaching the gods, rattling the walls of her chambers, yet falling on deaf ears. Alicent after she decides she will be king, in her eldest's stead, she will weild her own sword in place of her most trusted friend and closest son, she will fill the world with her words like her daughter had, she will take revenge as she sees fit as her youngest had:

Having recently discovered discourse on The Haunting of Hill House (2018) and recently rewatching the series and then watching episodes with commentary, I just feel the need to weigh in.
First off: I have read titular book multiple times before this show was even made. It was the first book I was assigned in college that I enjoyed, so when I have opinions about the show, it is not something I haven't weighed against the book.
Secondly: When Amblin approached Flanagan about making this show, Flanagan stated that great adaptations of the book had already been made in 1963 and 1999 with the movies. He didn't pitch the idea to someone, it was pitched to him. Yes, he came up with the idea to expand it into a family and helped create what it is, my point is that he didn't come into this wanting to dissect this story, it was brought to him. He did a phenomenal job in the writing room, creating the story he did (I could go on and on and on, but I shant). When writing, he felt closest to Steven because Shirley is upset with him using their personal fanily stories for fodder for fame. He said he felt he kind of did the same and knew how certain characters felt or acted because he had seen it happen in real life, so he KNOWS and treated these tough subjects with great respect in this retelling.
Thirdly: The literal description of the show says it is a "modern reimagining of the Shirley Jackson novel" so no one was blindsided and could've read the book or not before watching the show. It literally says they reimagined it, not retold. Flanagan used SO many callbacks. He went and read the source material and paid homage, not only to the book, but to the other 2 movies as well!
He did not do the book dirty. He tried to give all Jackson fans across multiple sources something that was fun and new but not destroying the memory of the source material.
I've spent years hating movies and shows that were remakes but then couldn't get simple costuming or scenes correct and I'm tired. Flanagan did an amazing job. He put so much heart and soul into not only Hill House, but everything that he creates, and I just feel like any energy hating on him could be spent better elsewhere.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, these are just some of mine. I could wax poetic about Flanagan for hours, but I will stop here. I personally don't understand how anyone could dislike this series, but to each their own.

an episode of house that is soooooo interesting to me is 7.23, the episode about the performance artist, Afsoun Hamidi.
this patient and her work is based directly on the performance artist Marina Abromović, which if you're familiar with her work is super obvious, but if you're not, I wanna tell you about it!!!!
the most obvious example of this being very clearly based on Marina is the performance that house shows the fellows.
here is the screenshot from the show,
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and here are images from Marina Abromović's 'Rhythm 0', from 1974.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
!!!!!!!!!! fascinating, right?
on the table with the objects is a typewritten sign that says,
"There are 72 objects on the table that one can use on me as desired. Performance: I am the object. During this period I take full responsibility. Duration: 6 hours."
(you can watch a 3 min video from the Marina Abromović Institute on the piece here)
Abromović does not intercede or react at any point in her performance. At one point, someone loads the pistol at the table, puts it to her throat, and it is a fellow audience member who takes the gun from him and throws it out the window. Similarly, in Hamidi's piece in the show, her assistant is instructed not to intercede at any point, and an audience member pours paint thinner on Hamidi and lights a match. Her assistant tackles the man (then Hamidi is so distressed that her performance is ruined that she collpases. lol.)
there are a lot of really fascinating similarities and differences between just the performance of this one piece between the show and the rhythm 0 (the items hanging vs on a table, Hamidi's shimmering satin white gown vs Abromović's simple everyday black outfit. Hamidi wearing a fashion chain necklace vs Abromović having a length of chain placed around her neck in performance.)
Abromović's performances are really very famous and I would bet money on you having seen at least one or two images of her work without realizing it before.
I wish I could find something online about the writers/creators talking about the inspiration of this patient and why they chose to base a story on her, but alas I haven't yet been able to.
