the thing about chase is that his catholic guilt and daddy issues and manwhoreism all derive from the same drive which is this perpetual search for something to believe in, something worth believing in, something that can accept his belief. the search is perpetual because he’s always left wanting. he tries god and his father and love and sex but the only thing that even halfway works is house. and then house dies and chase becomes him, working at the same hospital, in the same office, his life now a living shrine to his personal saint. "you took vicodin" and his face fell in a way i remember seeing when she said he should stop taking methodone or quit (and he decided to quit, because every day is a low level agony and every day no one else limps and every day has a chance to be normal to be cloudless to be free and of course of course you choose freedom) and his voice breaking on "i was scared" because house never admits that he's scared never ever not since his dad left him outside and the cold and the animals and the terror gripped him in a vice for days and "you took vicodin because you didn't want to deal with the pain... pain happens because you care." and grief being something that house is intimately aware of and terrified of, because that means he wasn't good enough - he didn't think quick enough, he failed to meet the bar (his own bar, so high. impossible high. a bar no one else even hopes for.) and pain being ever present and the impossibility of dealing with such a huge emotion when all you do is try to avoid it - and when it comes to you like a release of the floodgates, its the most horrible thing in the world. from a world where emotion is weakness and the only comfort you'll be given is your own, but surely its better to remove the need? of course you avoid it. who wouldn't?

I just realized that nobody in house md is capable of having a healthy and functional relationship. Well so far in s6 anyway. But like these doctors don't know how to build a fulfilling relationship, do they? Taub seems like the one with a mostly functional relationship, albeit not without its own problem (taub's affair in the past –apparently he still has the tendency to cheat, less money and less time while working in princeton-plainsboro etc). Cuddy and lucas? Well you can discount lucas' stalkish nature and see it as almost healthy but everyone's a mess at relationship.

what was with cameron house md she spends 90% of the episode saying she wants their patient to die bc he's a genocidal dictator and her colleague husband says "babe it bothers me for ethical reasons that you want our patient to die :(" and she said "hm maybe you're right :/" but when it comes down to it the genocidal dictator lays a finger on her in an aggressive manner and chase instantly commits medical malpractice to murder the guy and then when he tells her she LEAVES HIM bc boo hoo he's a murderer now like GIRL he killed a man for you!!! he's wracked with catholic guilt!!! he's being crushed beneath the weight of his sins because he chose his devotion to you over his devotion to god!!! he literally could not get any sexier at this moment in time!!!
