you could of course make an argument that house is a deeply tragic show all the way through, but there’s a little something ~extra~ once we see the full weight of what’s between him and cuddy. in s6 we’re watching house desperately trying to impress her in a million small ways (like bribing clinic patients to broadcast their good experience with him in cuddy’s earshot), making efforts to show up for her, and talking more openly with wilson about his feelings for her. at the same time he also tries to manipulate lucas into backing off by “pretend” drunkenly confessing that he loves cuddy in the most bizarre bluffing attempt I’ve ever seen that isn’t a bluff at all, plays the diagnostics team like a bunch of fiddles, and is in general still his nasty curmudgeon self. he’s always been a little rat man. but I think what makes this part extra sad is that he knows he’s a little rat man, one who couldn’t possibly be good enough for the woman he loves. so he tries. but all he knows how to do — all he’s ever known — is to manipulate. to twist and to play people against each other. and it’s actively driving him away from the one person he wants to be close to.

Holy cow just watched the scene where this happens and I actually had to rewind to make sure it wasn't a fever dream:
House: I'm not the boss. But I don't care that you murdered a dictator and I'll help you cover it up, no prob
Chase (sorta sultry): well you may not think youre the boss but... you're in charge and you always will be ;)
Then Chase literally hands him his ball!

House MD, Help Me, Bombshells, and addiction
I just finished watching House MD for the first time a few days ago. I'll add context by saying that I didn't know addiction would be a big part of the show, and a few years earlier I had a relative die from overdosing on heroin. Before then I had no idea they had had problems with addiction, but apparently they had been off it for a bit, but... yeah.
For the most part, it hadn't really bothered me in the show, but the season 6 finale, Help Me, was very sad, and seeing how desperate House was by the time he finally turned back to vicodin made me wonder how my relative must have felt. So, to see Cuddy basically save him and how happy they were, then to end up how it did in Bombshells... I can't really blame her for being upset about him using again, but it also seems to me that her breaking things off just pushed him right back into addiction (again, not exactly her fault).
Idk, it almost made me wish that he had just gone back to vicodin during Help Me, during that tragic scene, rather than just feeling like an arbitrary reason for Cuddy to call things off and winding up right back where he started, but almost worse in a way, for having been happy. Help Me was like an almost bang, and Bombshells was the whimper we got instead.
I was trying to see if this had been talked about anywhere else, as unfortunately deaths caused by addiction aren't all that uncommon, but wasn't finding anything, so I decided to vent on the internet like everyone else.

i cant believe dr. house is who inspired The lin-manuel miranda to get psychiatric help, allowing him to leave the mental asylum and go on to write hamilton. we owe so much of 2016 culture to gregory house.

the thing about chase is that his catholic guilt and daddy issues and manwhoreism all derive from the same drive which is this perpetual search for something to believe in, something worth believing in, something that can accept his belief. the search is perpetual because he’s always left wanting. he tries god and his father and love and sex but the only thing that even halfway works is house. and then house dies and chase becomes him, working at the same hospital, in the same office, his life now a living shrine to his personal saint. AND he’s australian

what was with cameron house md she spends 90% of the episode saying she wants their patient to die bc he's a genocidal dictator and her colleague husband says "babe it bothers me for ethical reasons that you want our patient to die :(" and she said "hm maybe you're right :/" but when it comes down to it the genocidal dictator lays a finger on her in an aggressive manner and chase instantly commits medical malpractice to murder the guy and then when he tells her she LEAVES HIM bc boo hoo he's a murderer now like GIRL he killed a man for you!!! he's wracked with catholic guilt!!! he's being crushed beneath the weight of his sins because he chose his devotion to you over his devotion to god!!! he literally could not get any sexier at this moment in time!!!
