They aren’t beautiful as Tom is in the mirror, but they are still, undeniably, him, with the eye of someone learning to cut people apart and look beneath their skin, still bloodless yet, and—well. The drawings have a certain quality, something that, perhaps, he’s reading too much into, having associated the sketching with the pose (and Tom, even if he'd never admit it, has always enjoyed being admired), and the look of green eyes flickering between paper and flesh: concentration, in some cases, is only another word for vehemence.

Honestly, he knew Bruce had a problem, but sending a bat to his doorstep? This is just ridiculous.

Or: in a scheming attempt to make them bond, Bruce forces Jason and Tim on what should be a simple quest: retrieve Alfred’s birthday cake from across town and make it back before the party.

But this is Gotham. And nothing is ever simple in Gotham.

As a genius and the only MIT alumnus in the faculty, he's not used to being eclipsed by anyone, and he doesn't take it all that well.

Weekly Batman/DC Fic Recs (4)

This week I've mostly read fics focused on strong emotions. We have Jason and Tim hatefucking during the Battle for the Cowl and Jason being insecure about his relationship with Slade. There's also a funny Slade and Dick neighbors AU, an outsider's perspective on Jason's return to the land of living, and a Tim and Lois Lane team up. The last one is a fantastic Stephanie-centric oneshot dealing with families, murder, and grief. Hope you enjoy the recs <3

This meant that by the time the knock on my study door came, shortly past the third hour of the morning, Kip could already have been missing for more than nine hours.

Wavering like Becky Simpson’s tone deaf oboe playing, unsure of what pitch and timbre to land on. “I’m Stephanie Henderson, Dustin’s cousin.”

There’s barely a fight, this time. He’s on top of his wits, the training strong in his muscles. In less than ten seconds, Ren is back on the ground with a blade to his throat. “Do. You. Yield,” he forces through his teeth. He’s breathing heavily now, dizzy from blood loss. The scratch on his cheek is nothing compared to what’s soaked his clothes, and he’s sweaty and covered in dirt and he’s buzzing with the fight, with the taste of revenge.
