Leopold’s interventions and the Congo Free State personnel and proceeds played three pivotal and understudied roles in this transformation, all of which involved ABIR [British industrialists].

First, it was at Ostend that an early and decisive action was taken to structure the “red rubber” regime and set it in motion. In 1892, jurists such as [E.P.] had ruled, contravening [...] trade laws, that the king was entitled to claim the Congo as his domanial property [...]. Leopold [...] devised one part of that royal domain as a zone for private company concessions [...] to extract and export wild rubber.

Soon after, in 1892, King Leopold happened to meet the British “Colonel” John Thomas North at the Ostend Hippodrome. North, a Leeds-born mechanic [...] had made a fortune speculating on Chilean nitrates in the 1880s. He owned monopoly shares in nitrate mines and quickly expanded to acquire monopolies in Chilean freight railways, water supplies, and iron and coal mines. By 1890 North was a high-society socialite worth millions [...]. Leopold approached North at the Ostend racecourse to provide the initial investments to set up the Anglo-Belgian India Rubber Company (ABIR). [...]

One visible sign of Ostend’s little-known character as Congo boomtown was the Royal Palace Hotel, a lavish property next to the king’s Royal Domain, which opened in 1899. With hundreds of rooms and a broad sweep of acreage along the beachfront, the palace “occupied the largest space of any hotel in Europe.” [...]

Lasan’s main capital description from my story “fall of Lasan”

The capital of Lasan, home of the royal family, was nestled in the middle of the base of white rocked mountains, the scraps past the city dotted with purple and red hued plant life. The streets had long since been cobblestone, the homes usually painted in a light white, one here or there out of wood or something far more modern, the roofs made of a cobalt blue tiling.

The Modern conveniences were there, electric street lights, some ramps panels for information and computer access. The shops some having illuminated holos to advertise goods or other promotions. Through the streets your typical hover craft, yet a few Lasat still prefuring animal or manual modes of operation.

All streets wove their way in a network like a spiders web to one location, the castle standing with it’s tall spires was introduced by a great hall, a massive pice of architecture alone. The walls and structure are made from Lasan marble, a white stone with clear tendrils of quarts, flecks of mica adding almost a gold or silver sparkle to it depending on how the suns were positioned. The flying buttresses in the cleanest of white, color splashing down as the sun moved overhead reflecting off the roof made of stained glass. It was said that each stone was meticulously mined and placed by the ancients long ago. The true age of the castle is a bit of a myth but the worn down marble from the lasat footfalls over time were clearly visible in the lower rotation of Lasan’s first sun. The tall windows held duplications of lasat Myths or historical figures in their moment of triumph.

Inside the hall are large swirling marble pillars to help hold up the ancient ceiling. Carved statues of former kings and queens presented, displays of armor and weapons from long ago standing guard from any shadow the bright hallway had to offer.

Beyond the gray hall was the main courtyard. Today it was packed full of Lasat. Colorful flags from each region adorned the hexagonal shaped room. Towards the back adjacent from the hall was a stage set up, high above on the third level was a great balcony, no hard rail, but mimicking arches of support echoed the buttresses in the hall.

It was here the King and Queen sat, the Queen at rule was center as the first sun was in ‘rule’, sat just behind them the three princesses, their hair done in fancy ways. The King with a full graying beard, the queen’s white hair set in a massive decorative style of curls on top of her head.

To her immediate right, a tall intimidating Lasat, perfect purple hued and deep purple stripes. A bright gold cape adored about his shoulders partly hiding the silver armor that sat above his olive and gold jumpsuit, the metals and honors on his left chest showing his rank of Captain of the Honor hard. Captain Garazeb Orrelios watched the busy crowd with a scrutinizing gaze. His ears perked, alert, flickering to one side or another as a sound caught his attention. He stood straight, his bo-rifle upon his back obscured a little by the shimmering gold cape. His attention only slightly pulled away from the crowd as two Lasat stepped onto the stage.

One, an older Lasat with gray hair and only chin hair, done up in formal black. Where Senator Torlay had a lilac shade to his fur his stripes had faded to more of a gray tone, his form older, but still showing strength. He was well cheered for by the crowd, a few curt comments made under the sound of the clapping. But when his rival stepped onto the stage…

The roar of the crowd, the cheers and shouts, all full of enthusiasm as if some great hero just walked into the room. The lasat praised their strength and had an honorable way of the warrior. So when outsiders would see Senator Dizillian Kalspur step up, a cane to assist him, his fur a softer grey and only the slightest of hints of stripes and a smaller lean form, the greeting was not expected.

Garazeb looked down to the lean Lasat and gave a smirk, standing just a little taller, focusing back to his post. He gave a partial step back as the Queen rose. With grace only royalty had, she raised her claws in the air, the light fine linen dress sighing in it’s brilliant white across her arms. As she raised her hand, the room fell silent. Both Candidates turned to her, kneeling one hand covering the other as they bowed their heads in a formal greeting.

A network of fortified cities around Jerusalem has been dated to the time of King David, more than 200 years earlier than previously thought, offering support to the theory that King David ruled over a complex and large kingdom. The proof, however, wasn’t freshly excavated from the earth, but rather came to light after an archaeologist spent years digging through old archaeological publications.

In a new academic paper, Prof. Yosef Garfinkel of the Institute of Archaeology at Hebrew University claims he has found evidence of urban settlement in organized cities dating to around 1,000 BCE, during the reign of King David.

His article, published Monday in the Jerusalem Journal of Archaeology, a peer-reviewed publication of Hebrew University, supports the theory that King David ruled over a well-developed kingdom, complete with roads connecting between cities. This runs counter to the belief of some scholars from the minimalist school of thought who have previously suggested that since there is scant evidence of cities during King David’s reign, his position as a ruler of a great kingdom as written in the Bible could be exaggerated.

“What is a kingdom?” countered Garfinkel. “You need cities and roads and military power and economic power and writing.”

Garfinkel’s paper, “Early City Planning in the Kingdom of Judah: Khirbet Qeiyafa, Beth Shemesh 4, Tell en-Naṣbeh, Khirbet ed-Dawwara, and Lachish V,” explores evidence of King David’s rule in five cities that were between half a day and a day’s walk from Jerusalem.

��If you take all these sites, they have the same urban concept, they are all sitting on the border of the kingdom and sitting where you have a main road leading to the kingdom,” he said. “These cities aren’t located in the middle of nowhere. It’s a pattern of urbanism with the same urban concept.”

Set to release his fourth solo album in 15 years, hip-hop luminary Rakim Allah is making a return to the hip-hop cipher.

Although 15 years have elapsed since the God MC’s last solo project, his stance remains interwoven in the fabric of hip-hop culture, ensuring he has never truly left the scene.

Two weeks ago (May 16), Masta Killa of Wu-Tang Clan took to Instagram and posted an image with Kurupt and Rakim, announcing the upcoming release of a single featuring the three renowned lyricists. Though Masta Killa did not reveal the single's name, he shared it would come from the “#GODSNETWORK” and instructed followers to remain attentive.

On Friday (May 24), Matthew Markoff, a markerting A&R for the project, announced on Instagram the solidification of a contract with Rakim for the release of his fourth studio album, G.O.Ds Network (REB7RTH).

Set for a worldwide release on July 26, there will also be a special edition released as a six-inch A and B side vinyl, with “REB7RTH” on one side and “Love is the Message” on the other. This special edition, limited to 500 pieces, will feature an array of hip-hop heavyweights such as Masta Killa, Kurupt, Nipsey Hussle, Snoop Dogg, Planet Asia, as well as seasoned creatives including Sally Green, Louis King, Kobe Honeycutt, Summer Yuki, and more.

The debut single from the album, “Rebirth (N.M.A.),” also produced by the “I Ain’t No Joke” lyricist, featuring Masta Killa and Kurupt, is set to drop next month on June 21, coinciding with the web and pre-order launch. Kurupt shared the single’s official cover on Instagram Friday (May 24), confirming the coming of Rakim’s new album. “July 26th - ‘Rebirth’ Rakim new album…Produced by Tha God Mc himself,” the caption noted.

The album is thoroughly produced by Rakim Allah, with Markoff also serving as an executive producer.

G.O.Ds Network (REB7RTH) marks Rakim’s first solo effort since 2009. He transformed the landscape of rap in 1987 with Eric B. on Paid In Full, and the duo went on to shape the Golden Era of rap with three additional albums: Follow The Leader (1988), Let the Rhythm Hit 'Em (1990), and Don’t Sweat The Technique (1992), all deemed classics of the Golden Era.

Rakim’s solo debut came in 1997 with The 18th Letter, featuring production from Pete Rock, DJ Premier, DJ Clark Kent, Father Shaheed of Poor Righteous Teachers, and more. It debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 and went certified Gold. In 1999, he quickly followed up with his second solo album, The Master, which includes the DJ Premier-produced standout single, “When I B on tha Mic." Afterward, Rakim took a 10-year hiatus before releasing The Seventh Seal in 2009, the first project on his record label Ra Records.

Throughout the years, Rakim has made guest appearances on unapologetic rap songs including G-Dep’s 2001 track “I Am” with Kool G Rap, the 2003 Dr. Dre-produced Jay-Z track “The Watcher 2,” Lloyd Banks’ 2006 song “You Know the Deal,” and he even added a surprise verse on Linkin Park’s 2014 track “Guilty All the Same.”

With his latest performance alongside Slum Village and Talib Kweli at Panic in L.A., the hip-hop luminary has been making his presence felt in the culture. He narrated a Bronx history video for the New York Yankees' opening season, and last month, he joined DJ Jazzy Jeff and Ravi Coltrane for a showcase at the Kennedy Center. As hip-hop enters its 51st year and Rakim makes a comeback, it's safe to conclude that hip-hop was never a fad and is bound to continue dominating and persisting as not only a music genre but a culture.

Daena was born without title or status, living off the meager earnings of her parents in a hovel. Yet Braavos brimmed with promise for a young woman who was cunning, who thrived on catching whispered refrains and secrets, pocketing the information for further use. But it was meeting Lady Alys, that altered the course of her world; with Alys, she dared to cross the Narrow Sea, seeking to forge a new life for herself. She has not seen her family since her departure, and carefully allows herself to think of them now and again; but it was either a life of abject suffering, or promise of greatness --- as always, Daena chose to bet on herself. 

She has been cultivating her network of intelligence and power for thirty years in Westeros; slowly accruing status, tediously building a reputation from the ground up. Daena functions as an aunt like figure to the young crown prince and princess -- she endeavours to aid Vaeles' cause, and shall work to his reign is long and mighty; but her heart shall always lay with ensuring her and Alys' continued safety and peace. She is however, neither a mother nor a nanny to any; though she indulges in humour on the subject, it is Alys alone who shall hold the love and tenderness in her heart.

i. web of spies ---- specifically with older muses in mind, long-standing sources of information for daena. in turn, she would offer them useful contacts or share what she knows. they do not necessarily trust each other, but their relationship spans years. daena is someone they know will always have an answer, as her ear is always to the ground. they may even be friends, having weathered wars, various rulers, and conflicts that have threatened to shake the land.  ii. allies --- those who support vaeles as she does. daena does not blindly believe in anyone, nor would she live and die by any man as a messiah; but she believes vaeles to be the best choice for the throne, and so she shall employ her gifts to support his cause. this will bring daena close to those who ally with vaeles; they may be unlikely allies, but daena will lend them her support and whispers. maybe they scheme together, or share information -- their common cause has brought them together.  iii. those who distrust --- daena has cultivated mystery and her network of spies for so long her past has become a mystery. to most her motives are unclear and her every act is sinister; a secretive, guarded woman is bound to be a beacon of suspicion. your muse may not trust her, or even have a personal vendetta -- perhaps she had a hand in an affair that hurt their house, or spread whispers that threatened their personal affairs.  iv. unlikely sources --- the mistress of whispers will not dismiss someones youth or status, if they have something to offer her; perhaps they approached her with an interesting secret, or made a barter to aid someone they knew. and so, they have entered her web, their connection entirely unknown to the rest of westeros. if they are a young woman, daena may seem promise in them; having no children, and finding herself feeling mortality creeping closer, she seeks to pass her knowledge onto a worthy head.

Hello I have returned with thoughts again

Thinking about Seer Trio, I love them <3 I forgot if they have an actual trio name or not I’ll have to go double check that

Just,,, Jaden and Chazz friendship man, rivalry is optional but I’m thinking ab the TikTok again where Chazz is one of three ppl who actually genuinely care about Jaden and it makes me go aaaaaaaaa. I never really think about Chazz and Jesse’s dynamic but they have great potential too.

I just think they’re so cool, little guys bonding over being able to see things others can’t. Maybe J&J showing Chazz the ropes on Seeing and stuff idk. Man let them be soft. Let them confide in each other and lean on each other and have each other’s backs.

If you want to go a step further make it QPR. I will die on Spiritshipping hill but have J&J be in a QPR with Chazz, I just think it’d be neat <3

I don’t care if it might be OOC in some cases, let them be soft <3 (and let there be angst, we always gotta have some of that, yes? :D)

Hmmmmm family trauma with Chazz and Great Expectations™, I’m a big fan of the hc of Jaden having no home life and having to raise himself after everything with Yubel when he was younger :))) I don’t think we know much about Jesse’s home life, so let’s make it a nice in between of the other two’s. His parents are still around unlike Jaden’s, but they’re more distant and neglectful than Chazz’s. They have expectations for him and if he fails to meet them it’s like he doesn’t exist, whereas Chazz’s parents just get angry. Give them bad parents and little to no support system, as a treat <3

Have them deal with Jaden’s self-destructive tendencies and lack of self-worth (he sees it as him making up for the crimes he committed as Supreme King. They see it as him being suicidal. “How can it be considered suicidal”, Jaden argues, “if I’m not even capable of dying?” Their hearts hurt for him regardless.) Give me angst from love, and love through the angst. Those who hurt and are hurting, helping and healing, even if it’s only by a fraction at a time.

What is this man's home life. I've written pages of backstory just to answer this question and every part of it is as wild as I could possibly make it because I think having every part of this southern boi be insane is the funniest possible route.

Chazz and Jesse friendship ooooooh. I found it so funny during GX when people were like "Ah yes, the two boys who can see duel spirits, Jesse and Jaden." LIKE! Guys Chazz is standing RIGHT there.

It makes sense tho, while Jesse and Jaden kinda incorporate the supernatural into themselves, Chazz is by all accounts just a normal guy who does not let being able to see invisible monsters distract him from being a run of the mill grunge teenager. And I adore him for it. Chazz being the actual Common Knowledge Braincell of the trio. Jesse and Jaden are capable of subduing space gods, but Chazz is the one you call when you need help on your taxes. (He grumbles and yells at you the whole time and is so grouchy you don't realize until later he was actually really helpful.)

Also YES to qpr. Give Jaden as many qprs as possible. He deserves it. The ideal Jaden Yuki support network is a delicate interconnected web of partners who are all in a groupchat together to keep track of who the hell is taking care of their shared boyfriend over the weekend. Chazz sends a selfie to Jesse of Jaden literally haven broken into his house and fallen asleep on top of him with the caption "come get your mans >:[" and Jesse responds "No <3"
