For male-romancing MCs (Focused on the ROs being with MC): Damon, Hanniel, Aurelian, and Dorian — also messy, also fun.

Since both Hanniel's parents are nobles and he is an acknowledged bastard, does he have either his Mom's or Dad's house name or a bastard last name like in the ASOIAF series?

In the Realm, bastards live forever under a shadow of sin. Among commoners, it’s simpler as most peasants don’t even carry house names, so illegitimate kids get surnames based on their birthplace like any other commoner: a river, a hill, a trade, or some landmark. But noble bastards? That’s a whole different, crueller game. They’re denied their family’s name unless the head of their noble house petitions the monarch for legitimisation. Without royal approval, even acknowledged noble bastards get slapped with a blunt, regional surname that screams their bastard status in every court and hall they walk into.

These bastard surnames are like scars, they're short, brutal, and impossible to hide. They vary across the eight kingdoms, but they all carry the same sting: a public brand marking you as born outside the laws of honour.

Hanniel was born in the Crownlands, which is MC’s kingdom (Barakon) where the bastard surname is Shale. But he didn’t hear that name until he was older. His mother was shunned by Hanniel’s grandfather, the Baron Amlinger, and always told Hanniel he was an Amlinger. Even though Duke Gerard acknowledged Hanniel as his bastard son (pissing off the Baron even more) Hanniel never officially got the bastard surname. When his mother died, she begged her father to grant Hanniel the house noble name, and so he did, but that didn’t mean the old man treated Hanniel with kindness. Far from it.

I fully intend to let you guys customise MC’s beauty type, whether that’s sharp and masculine, soft and pretty, or something else entirely. But the potential for surprise tenderness? It’s there.

#3. Okay so no one (and I mean no one) expected MC to become the heir. MC is third in line, so when it happens, it kind of blows everyone’s mind. As for how people (ROs and family) react… let’s just say I already have a draft post in the works for that 👀.

#4. Oh, you feel someone might betray MC? Interesting… 😏 I won’t spoil anything, but I will say: this story isn't a fairy tale, and crowns are heavy. Trust and loyalty will be tested and who breaks first is something you’ll have to discover.

Guys. GUYS. I finally finished moving into my new place and holy hell—this heat?? I am melting. I am sizzling. I am a croissant left in the sun. But it’s beautiful here. Spanish sounds like a goddamn poem every time someone talks to me, even when they’re yelling at me because I walked into the wrong building (true story).

But I digress—a lo que vamos.

Last month was surprisingly good to me. Chapter 2 is about halfway done, and I’m finally seeing the shape of this beast. Still need to add some choices and juicy branching, but the bones are there—and they’re looking spicy. 👀

Also, I may have seduced someone into helping me with some coding things I’ve been stuck on, so YES—progress is real and on its way. I still got it, baby. Wink.

Now that I’m settled in, I’m hoping to get more words out faster. I won't set a hard release date just yet, but if things keep going the way they are, you’ll be getting Chapter 2 sooner than you think.

I’m having intrusive worldbuilding thoughts again. 😩 I’m this close to changing Damon’s name to something else but I have no idea what—but I do like the meaning behind the name, he just doesn’t feel like a Damon anymore?? Also I was gonna tweak House Mezzei’s sigil from a hare to a scorpion because it vibes more with their desert aesthetic, BUT then again “Mezzei” is derived from Hungarian and that literally means hare so now I’m in existential sigil crisis. 🐇🦂?? To make it worse, I was just trying to make some casual bard characters and accidentally wrote full-on fucking songs. What is happening.
