More of my sweet little baby✨
Warning: she's too cute
Tumblr media
Tala in a variety of fits I couldn't resist but put her in
Explanation of the fits under the cut, from the top, left to right
Tala at the beach in the cutest cherry swimsuit, grumpy at the sand castle having the audacity to collapse
the blue dress is her outfit as a flower girl at Hera and Kanan's wedding (and he's alive and well and def not dead in this AU, she's also gonna be the best older cousin to Jacen)
the green overalls were embriodered by Sabine and given to Tala as a birthday gift at some point and she just loves them so much she could wear them everyday (and sometimes refuses and pouts when Kallus suggests something else)
Tala in Kallus' rebel captain jacket, cause it's so wholesome when kids try on their parents clothes adbsgxgsjbx
Tala after spending a day with auntie Sabine, they spent their time painting and making jewelry (Kallus was horrified at the hair and ready to strangle Sabine before she assured him it'll wash off)
Tala in a dress that just screams "fr my mom put me in this when I was a baby" vibe to me personally
The last one is my favourite, she's so freaking cute in the yellow dress, I just cannot believe how sweet she looks

Miri in full battle regalia. I'm not sure she ever has a chance to don it in Prince AU, but I wanted to design it for her anyways.
The collar is inspired by Zeb's canonical armor, since he's the only lasat we have to work off of. Colors are minimal and reference bloodshed, since war is an occasion of mourning. Patterns still there since as ruler, she's a billboard for the strength of her kingdom, and having time/resources to add ornamentation even under war conditions is a statement of such.
The addition of fur on her not-so-ceremonial weapon is inspired by Hawaiian scepters/standards that were ornamented with feathers. It denotes her status, and honestly now that I'm looking at it, should be way more ostentatious. The weapon is inspired by a bo-rifle, but I don't think is one. It's its own thing.

The Stars and Brain Chemicals have finally aligned and I'm working on a new comic project, exploring the Pre-Empire, Sentinel/Guide Kalluzeb AU I've drawn art for in the past . Garazeb and the Lasat OCs all written by the lovely @sidhebeingbrand
I don't know how far I'll get, but it's a huge deal to even write a script let alone get through making refs for it. I have the first 5 pages thumbnailed out. Wish me luck!

Legends of the Lasat gave us an absolutely fascinating glimpse into a rich and beautiful Lasat culture filled with amazing worldbuilding that fit perfectly into Star Wars and had so much potential to be expanded upon. And then Dave Filoni and everyone else at Star Wars was like yeah we’re never doing anything with that again :)

Imagine Zeb visiting Lira San for the first time, but from the people that live there.
Here's this group of three new lasat, who claim they are from a planet that was destroyed.
The two in the lead look happy, almost expectant as they explain their journey and their history.
And then there is the one just behind them.
His eyes are wide and mouth agape. His ears flick rapidly between amazement and distress. He looks upon the common folk with wonder and as his gaze falls upon the curious kits swarming his feet, his eyes well with tears.
He laughs and cries all at once, and any can tell he's had a long fight with disbelief. He stays for the impromptu celebration at the village center, taking in all he can before he disembarks, stating he will return when it is time.
He is genuine in his words and as he leaves he looks as though a great weight has been lifted from him. As though this is the first time in a long while he's been truly happy.

My holiday ends today and I can now share photos of my look for Galaxy’s Edge inspired by “ma dude” Garazeb Orrelios.
I had a brilliant day on Batuu, the rides were incredible, the food and drinks were great and I got quite a few compliments on my look with many people saying how rare or “unique” it was. Zeb deffo needs more shirts and merchandise. Make it happen, Star Wars! Dude’s gonna be a movie star soon! 😏
Many thanks again goes to my good friend @ladywren7 for helping me design the perfect shirt for the day. 💜
I even got outfit approval from the king himself 😁 Icing on the cake!
KARABAST!

Speculating about Lasat biology again. Stripes are an evolutionary trait that indicate some kind of camouflaging mechanism in their society, like Zebra or Tigers. In this case, tigers, I don't think I have to explain that. But I'm wondering about larger implications. First of all, they'd have to blend in to their environment to a degree. So for Lasan, I'd always imagined it very gold, I have no basis for this, but I'm thinking gold grasses and leaves (one, so Zeb can say his favorite color is gold, hello kal, and two, more importantly, so that Lothal can invoke some kind of nostalgia for Zeb, drawing him to the planet) but lots of maroon as well. Maybe their tree trunks are maroon, or lots of their wild plant life is maroon. Like a cool-toned maroon (I know reds are warm, but a maroon with a purple-ish undertone).
Lasat don't need to be an exact match to their environment, the environment just has to work with them. And keep in mind, they didn't evolve on Lasan, their species would've evolved on Lira San, so there are going to be differences between the two planets, settlers probably just chose the environment they could work within. Tigers are also bright orange against green backdrops, but their camouflage can still also trick humans even though we have the color receptors in our eyes to differentiate between green and orange. But not all animals do. So whatever they're hunting (cause I don't doubt lasat are natural predators) very likely can't see the color discrepancies between a purple-undertoned maroon and purple fur.
On Lira San, I've always thought that the plant life did have more purple in it. Purple and maroon, maybe some yellow grasses. If multiple planets in Star Wars can have green grass and brown trees, more than one planet can be maroon and gold. But Lira San would definitely have more purple. Also it looks like the Pacific Northwest/temperate rainforest environment, but I'll make a different post about why I think that.
But what do stripes mean socially? In prey species it means that animals use their camouflage to blend in with each other, but in predator species their camouflage blends them into the environment and the animals themselves are largely solitary. I'm not gonna lie, but I like the solitary thing better for building an alien species - it'd be cool to see how an alien from a solitary species adapts to being on a crew - problem is it doesn't seem like Zeb is set up to be from a solitary society. With the Honor Guard, and how protective Zeb is of his bo-rifle, and spiritual elders, there's seems to be a very close-knit society on Lasan. So idk idk I'm trying to figure out the implications… Do most Lasat live in cities? So that they all live close to each other? Did the Honor Guard have uniforms that accentuated their stripes so that they were harder to pick out from each other individually? Did they weaponize confusion and diversion as a fighting force? Would this make Zeb standing out so visibly among non-Lasat so much worse for him than we thought?
On the other hand, thinking more on the solitary idea, Zeb is very closed off. He doesn't open up about Lasan very often, he doesn't tell anyone he was Guard Captain, he doesn't necessarily like sharing a room - at least at first - I just. It's so hard to parse out what's Zeb versus what's Lasat. Maybe Lasat are social and he's emotionally closed off. Maybe it's polite to keep yourself to yourself as long as you're kind to others.
(I also keep thinking about Kallus dealing with Lasat on Lira San. Does he lose Zeb in the crowd a lot? They go to the local farmers market where Kallus ends up in a 'where's Waldo' situation every weekend. Do they go for walks in the woods and Kallus looks away for a second but when he turns back he can't see Zeb? Does he insist on, like, child leashes when they have kids so that he doesn't lose them when Zeb isn't around to track them down? Can Lasat see each other more easily because of their (presumably) enhanced vision?)
