I’ve seen this a few times and I wanna address it. In the phandom, as a fan of Danny Phantom, you can be a fan however you want.
You’re not wrong for liking what you like. If you don’t care for AU’s and fanon and all the rewriting and fix-its and shipping… then good on you. If you watched the show as a kid and are a fan because you like canon and the show itself makes you happy, then good on you. If you discovered the show recently or as an adult and are diving into a new passion, then good. on. you.
We all love the show, or at least the concepts and vision behind it, that’s why we are fans. (especially the theme song, THAT I think we can all agree is a hecking banger.)
ASIDE 1: What this post is addressing is the concerns from some people who only like canon, or prefer majority of canon over fanon, about feeling left out of the phandom. I’ve also heard some people, who grew up with the show, who’ve said that Butch Hartman is their childhood hero, and feeling awkward and off to the side in the phandom, while people bash on him and the show.
While yes there are problems, and I truly recommend everyone who reads this looking up “Why don’t people like Butch Hartman?” or “What did Butch Hartman do?” and doing a bit of research on your own, this doesn’t mean you can’t still have that childhood respect.
It’s a bittersweet sort of thing, where someone doesn’t turn out to be as great as you’d envisioned they were. Where you have respect for them from the past, and are learning that they’re not who you thought they’d be, and you feel betrayed because maybe your trust was misplaced. But that’s not on you, and you shouldn’t be shamed for wanting to preserve that memory and keep the innocence of your childhood heroes alive.
I myself, have had a huge part of my childhood and formulaic memories, had to be reevaluated once I got older and realized that hey… that was definitely problematic. I was a kid, and didn’t know any better, but the organizers definitely did. I’m glad to have done it because those experiences really mattered to me, but I feel guilty for thinking that because I also now have the knowledge that it wasn’t right. Cultural appropriation is a huge disrespect to the things I thought I was respecting when I was young. So although I appreciate the memories and the time I spent and who it made me today, I can say for a fact I do not condone the ones who orchestrated it, because I have become an informed individual. Because I know better. So I will continue to love the ideals introduced to me, but I will go about it the correct way.
In that thread, I do think that it’s good for everyone to educate themselves on the media you consume, especially on subtle contexts and perhaps why some things get spread around like “butch hartman sucks” rather than just accepting or rejecting hearsay without confirming it for yourself. If you don’t know something, seek to understand it!
But, and I stand by this, any existing or future issues with the show’s aging or it’s creator does not give anyone the right to make any other person feel unwelcome. And if anyone, phandom or otherwise, yells and kicks and screams and or otherwise has a hissy fit at you for liking canon or anything like that… then fuck em.
Nobody can stop you from loving what you love! We are all on earth together, and you truly only live once. So don’t waste the amazing time you have doubting yourself. Don’t spend time reading and consuming content that you don’t want to. If you wanna read canon fics only, never reading crossovers, then you. go. damn. do it.
If you’ve never created anything in your life, never drawn a doodle or written a blurb, you are still a part of the phandom, and we are happy to have you. Leave comments, likes, and reblogs to show your presence and appreciation! Tell the content creators you like the most that you appreciate what they’ve done!
In the end, we are all just people, who one day found ourselves reading/watching/looking at a silly ghost boy who was just 14, and found that we couldn’t look away.

the absolute rant and essay I would write about how we gotta stop with treating fandom artists and writers and crafters like influencers and content creators. how we expect engagement out of people doing things for fun in their free time and for no monetary exchange. about how social media for fandom was a questionable choice. how we lost “ship and let ship” and boil everything nuanced down into “good” and “bad” and equate a person’s moral and ethics based on their character preference and ships. how “even you are not immune to propaganda” also applies to the loss of nuance and the way we interact and place boundaries and re-define words in a way that is outside of their intention. how we demand censorship because we don’t know the use of the back button.
but without specifically saying it was better back in the day because this shit was always happening but damn was it easier to avert your eyes.
but alas I am a humble fanfic writer who has only so many words and I’d rather spend them on my stories

the thing i don’t understand about disney’s buzzfeed changes to the songs to add consent is like…the whole point is Ariel pursuing Eric? why does SHE need to give consent when it’s her trying to get HIM to kiss her? “kiss the girl” is literally Sebastian trying to convince Eric to kiss her because she’s trying to get him to kiss her. like??? how do you get Eric possibly taking advantage of Ariel out of that scene? Eric should be the one giving consent. how do you get him possibly taking advantage of her at all when he’s literally NOT into her until the end?? no child is watching the little mermaid and thinking rape and assault are okay, because the whole time Ariel was the one pursuing him. that perceived possibility is not anywhere near the original story and it’s perspective. it’s mind boggling.
(also it figures they would add the possibility of rape to an innocent story like this, written originally by a man about his unrequited love for another man.)

How to stop feeling like an awful person after accidentally crossing someone’s boundary even though you talked to them about it and apologized and know you won’t do it again and they understood it was an accident and it’s fine and you two are still on good terms
#god I just#Ughhghhg#I can’t stop THINKING about it it wasn’t even that bad they said i was doing a bit and it was getting annoying#and I said i was sorry like multiple times and I said I won’t do that but again and they were like ‘no you can! it just got a little annoyi#ng it’s fine!’ and I still feel like a terrible person#I think I’m tired that’s gotta be it#or I’m mentally going through what I went through with my old friends and how I got mad at them and lashed out when I shouldn’t have and#refused to apologize and got into a big argument and then had one conversation about it and got mad again and then lashed out AGAIN and then#texted that I didn’t want to be friends any more and then I cried for weeks and every time I’d see one of them I’d want to throw up and I wa#s constantly miserable I didn’t want to go to school and I did everything that I could ok the comic because it was a fun distraction but it#also made me sad because I wanted to finish it and show it to them but they weren’t ever actually interested in it and I never got to show#them and I even made two characters in it based on two of my best friends in that group at the time and now I don’t know if I should delete#them entirely or keep it or change the characters???????? I don’t know#fuck#oh yeah one of those best friends basically took the plot of HBD and changed it a little and is gonna make a fucking short film with it#it’s a stupid fucking plot too it’s one of those like coming of age stories where the main character wears a ghost sheet and it’s actually a#metaphore for being socially anxious because he has a bad home life but then! then he’s walking to class and someone steps on the sheet and#it comes off! and they become best friends and they work through their problems!#Jesus fucking Christ I can’t believe her#I told her it was similar and that she should change it but we were gonna discuss that the week I texted I wasn’t coming back so#If she makes it I’m gonna sue her I don’t fucking care I told her I fucking told her and later that fucking day she ‘came up with it on her#own’ fucking Christ man get a life#I need to stop typing and go to sleep idk why I did that#sorry for the rant!

Hello! This is a very good question and it crops up quite often across a lot of fields of science. The best answer I can give you has two parts: 1) your dad learned how to do this independent of science, and 2) oftentimes the scientists learning and compiling and analyzing information about older or uncommon practices aren’t familiar with the practice itself in a way your dad might be, ie it’s all academic.
Now this isn’t a bad thing on either end, and it’s not a hard and fast rule — some scientists go into their fields because they’ve been doing the thing and want to study it in an academic context for whatever reason, who knows. This holds true for what I say from now on, that nothing is true, and there will be exceptions to the trend.
A lot of “niche” cultural behaviours or practices aren’t understood innately by the people outside those cultures, and doubly so when they’re historical, like this method of mixing concrete, or even the lost wax cast method of making bronze statues. You’ll find similar trends with Damascus steel or particular ways of weaving silk. They just aren’t understood innately by people outside the specific cultures they thrived in. Chances are, since your dad was taught by your granddad, this method of mixing lime into concrete was an age old thing in your family, likely knowledge passed down through generations. Or your granddad figured it out through trial and error. Either way, it’s pretty cool that this knowledge is in your family! It means that somewhere along the way, someone in your family, be it your granddad or someone older, played around with enough materials to figure out how to make brickwork last longer.
The best analogy I can come up with is that new study going around that explains how spices work in Indian food and why it’s so good. Like, intuitively, I know (in theory — I can’t cook very well) how spices work in food from my own country, I know which ones to put in which food and how to bring the flavour out, because I’ve been taught by two generations. But I don’t know the exact science behind it — I can’t tell you which tastebuds are activated by which spice, or what chemical reactions produce what chemical that creates a particular scent. I can tell you that eating a clove will make your tongue go numb though, and that you should only put a teaspoon into a big pot.
What I’ve observed in both this, my personal life, and in academia and case studies is that knowledge that is passed down is generally meant for practical use — like how to use spices or how to make bricks last longer. And, scientists are naturally curious. We want to pick processes apart and study every little detail. I think it’s really cool that your granddad knew about this, and if you see this, if it’s okay, I’d like to know if he figured it out himself or if he was taught by someone! I think it’d be pretty neat to see how far back this goes.
Edit: these tags by @caffeine-n-words kinda sum up what I’m trying to say!
Tumblr media
[Text: “…I’m over here thinking about a person I semi-follow somewhere in Europe who has a blog and a few books about building with mud and limecrete specifically because limecrete is long-lasting and tough. These places already knew what apparently took scientists decades to figure out. Glad to see the rest of the world is catching up though”]
(Hashtags removed and edited for clarity.)
And this also touches upon something that gets me sooooo incensed when it comes to Learning Things. Just…ask the local populace @ scientists. Please. I promise science will go much faster if you do.
we figured out Roman concrete btw. This is the only thing on my mind

just recently he pardoned people with marijuana possession crimes. which is amazing! but it’s also something he said he would do (including federally legalizing it) as soon as he got in office. clearly he is going to continue to hold other policies like that (one’s he promised to already do) hostage unless you vote for him in November.
yes, we live in a colonizer country that profits off of slavery. what about me saying hey y’all should consider promoting third party candidates instead of telling a genocider he still has ur vote while he’s literally still doing genocide sounds to you I’m trying to start a political revolution?
I don’t think me saying that you should not ever tick a box for a specific president who is very specifically participating in a genocide that hurts specific people in my very own community makes it a magical moral device or whatever that means, or that I am not well educated about and participating in my own local politics and political structures like you assume.
If you don’t want to engage with my actual argument then ok, enjoy the block 👍
listen i am not american. i understand that even democrats fucking suck and its a genuinely shitty situation to be in. im so sorry. but hey, hey look at me. why are you guys bullying people for saying "you should still vote blue?" Like im curious about the alternatives youve got. voting red? firebombing walmart? tumblr user catboyssepticbutthole, i know you will not be firebombing walmart.

NEARLY C★UGHT IN THE ACT!
Tumblr media
featuring: fushiguro megumi. itadori yuuji. gojo satoru. geto suguru. (characters are all aged up)
NSFW MDNI. fuck! ya almost got caught screwing . .
n. been in the drafts for way too long.. cz i needa clear my reqs but idc! i’ve been wanting to write this for the longest time. enjoy my lovelies <3
Tumblr media
GOJO SATORU. “s-shit, how much i’ve missed this view,” gojo was sitting in his office desk, slighty pulling your hair to guide you to the rhythm he wanted. you felt yourself melting into him with his warm shaft in your mouth, ever soo big and too much for you, bobbing your head up and down.
just then, a sharp knock echoed through the room, startling you both. your heart raced as you instinctively tried to pull back from gojo. “s-satoru, we—“ his hand gripped your scalp more firmly than before, making you swallow his shaft until it hit the back of your throat. in other words, he didn’t fucking care. “just do your job, darling. and relax, they won’t come in.”
“even if they do come in, we’ll just say we were having a very hands-on discussion.”
Tumblr media
GETO SUGURU. “i’m sorry, princess,” he whispered beside your ear as he hit you raw from behind, both pressed against each other in the dim light of a public restroom. his hands gently putting your hair to the side, “i just, ngh, need you so badly,” whilst his lips found yours again, silencing any further protest.
the sound of footsteps outside the door made you freeze, heart pounding in your chest as the door handle rattled. “someone’s out t-there,” you tried to say as you held back the moans. yet not only your heart was pounding like crazy, it seemed your boyfriend was also still pounding your walls despite the chance you two will get caught screwing in public.
“j-just a little longer,” he pleaded as the groans left his lips again. “i can’t get enough of you.”
Tumblr media
ITADORI YUUJI. watching movies together was the original plan, until itadori’s cock twitched because you were sitting on his lap. your ass brushed against his bulge and that’s it. he couldn’t hold it any longer.
a split second later his boxers are on the floor, your panties pushed aside as he rocked your waist front and back. better than the movies, he thought, “i’m havin’ a nice view, baby.” you circled your hands on his shoulders when suddenly you heard a knock on the door. “shit,” itadori murmured as he panicked, slowing down the pace a bit. “i’ll handle this.”
“uh, 10 minutes! don’t come in!” he shouted deafeningly, you were certain that if the person still opened the door, they must have hearing problems to miss that loud shout. “see? problem solved. now, where were we?”
Tumblr media
FUSHIGURO MEGUMI. with a frustrated groan, he hovered above you, laying your leg on one of his shoulders and pumping two digits in and out of your hole while he ran a hand through his hair. “why did you have to sneak in here? tsk,” a groan fell from his mouth, “you’re going to get us caught one of these days,” he grumbled, but his fingers playing around your pussy said otherwise.
“because i—ah,” you were the one squirming under his touch, “i-i wanted to be with you—“
“fushiguroo, are you there?” came the voice from the other side of the door. megumi sighed, his expression quickly shifting to one of annoyance. “busy!” he called out, forcing his other fingers over your throat to stop you from making any noise, and tried to keep his voice steady while fucking your insides. “idiot, just keep quiet, okay?”

And for maximum angst.
Danny eventually collapses, from exhaustion not blood loss but his team doesn’t realize this.
The “heart” of the team gets to Danny and looks for signs of life, only to realize their are none.
Cue five stages of grief.
The team put Danny’s body in storage and call Jazz to tell her the bad news. Unfortunately Jazz is either in shock or denial and is easily calm. The team take Jazz to Danny’s body fully expecting a crying older sister who just lost her baby brother.
They do not expect Jazz to yell at Danny to wake up nor for Danny’s corpse to ask for five more minutes.
DCxDP or Marvel Prompt: Bleeding Out
A mission from Clockwork sends Danny to another dimension to prevent some kind of disaster that could result in the destruction of said dimension or potentially endangering the Ghost Zone. As a result Danny is able to meet a group of heroes (Justice League or Avengers).
These heroes test Danny, learn about him and learn to trust him. He's from another dimension not too different from theirs and from what they understand his powers are called "Ghost". They have no idea that Danny is a ghost.
So when Danny takes a hard hit in the field and is dumping green blood the team is frantic. Yes, they know Danny has a human form, they've run plenty of tests but they think they're one and the same. They don't understand that the ghost side can't die and that the ghost side keeps the human side alive.
They're frantic.
They're panicking.
Danny is bleeding out in the field, loosing more and more blood to the point where even those who could be considered Gods or are Gods are getting more and more concerned. They have no idea Danny will live.
But the fact that Danny just keeps making jokes about it isn't helping.
They're concerned.
He's confused and doesn't understand that they didn't understand his explanation of being a "Ghost" and the villains are just wondering how much harder they have to hit this kid before he stays down.

i was thinking about this since i posted earlier about us needing to address the trend of gen z men being pulled into alt-right pipelines might have contributed to the outcome of this election.
i think contrapoints is really smart, and from what i’ve seen, has been way more effective at getting people out of harmful ideological pipelines than i’ve seen from the majority of leftists online who instead berate and drive a greater wedge of antipathy (though i understand why! and it can be very hard to have empathy for the people who see you as a threat). that antipathy makes the right more radicalized because they don’t feel like they can talk about anything without the “crazy lefties” who won’t even engage with them. where did these issues come from?
what i’ve noticed, and i’m even guilty of this, is that people don’t interact with groups of people whom they refuse talk to, which makes realities more hypothetical in the minds of their opponent since they aren’t open to seeing reality from their perspective. this is true on both sides. from what i’ve observed, it seems to originate from hypothetical perception of the opponent, but when people treat those perceptions as though they are real, it becomes real with their actions, which then makes the antipathy justified to someone. again, on both sides.
what makes contrapoints so successful at breaking this down is that is that she creates these socratic dialogue skits that represent real people and ideologies, has a sense of humor, isn’t afraid to discuss these things, reframes how we see these things by introducing nuance to both sides. she’s a leftist, but she also knows how to engage without ripening division, of meeting someone halfway and being completely humble about it. she is able to soften extremes.
she is able to get into the mind of people who aren’t aligned with her views, understand the nuance and rationales from a realistic perspective, breaking down a big block of “this is all bad” into “ok, some of this makes sense…”, what this does is create a space for self-reflection that doesn’t feel ham-fisted (which could otherwise cause people to double down on their beliefs instead of opening up to other perspectives outside of their bubble). while also being entertaining and well-produced on top of it.
youtube
what she is doing is creating these scenarios and socratic discussions that SHOULD be happening in real life but aren’t in this polarized social climate.

i graduated from new college of florida this spring, the small liberal arts college that was in headlines across the country for ron desantis’s board of trustees hostile takeover and exodus of professors.
new students and student athletes from conservative walks of life were being basically incentivized to go there who were taught to fear the lgbt boogeyman growing up in their conservative communities. but once they actually interacted with lgbt students there, many of them they felt like they understood them, and they weren’t as bad as they were told they would be. new college of florida was also famous for getting derek black (child of the man who created stormfront, and godchild of the kkk grand wizard david duke) out of white nationalism. their peers at NCF called them out but also interacted with them, invited them to dinner. black wrote a book about it.
now of course some people are too far gone and you shouldn’t waste your time with them, like derek’s family for example. but i also think a lot of people who voted for trump are not informed, are operating off of emotion and knee-jerk mentality because it’s easier than thinking, and they are not seeing the discussions that need to be had to change their mind because fuckin…nobody is doing them.
and we feel this visceral disgust to people of the opposing party because of its associations. i just want to know how it happened and how we got to be like this. i think social media is partly to blame and also the algorithms that take people down dangerous pipelines and sharpen them, insulate them.
i myself understand the vitriol you might have for anyone that voted for trump. i feel so disappointed that half the people of this country voted against our collective benefit. and i’ve seen a lot of sentiment from the left today saying “every single person who voted for trump is dead to me. i disowned you”.
you can see the reality of trump’s demagoguery, and it’s so obvious, but what i want to know is: what do they see? why did they vote for him? emotion and entertainment travel faster and have more reach than reason. and it’s that’s why i think contrapoints’s videos are exemplary at tackling this ideological divide. this is something i’ve been thinking about for months before today and i thought now was a better time than ever to give my two cents on it.
