I know a lot of Tgcf fans greatly dislike the Banyue Arc (and I understand in the sense that it’s early on that all adaptions really mainly include up to that arc in this point in time and it gets repetitive) but I am actually a decent fan of this arc, mainly because of Hua Cheng, Mu Qing, and Feng Xin all just wearing obnoxiously obvious disguises.
Xie Lian really humored these three.
Hua Cheng is the least offensive of these three. He’s not really actively trying to hide his identity per se. I imagine that he didn’t want to straight up lie to Xie Lian, which is why he only disguised his appearance and then proceeded to be the weirdest person ever. Like mans lowkey waltzed up to Xie Lian and said “Hey bestie, I’m just a good old normal, 100% average teenager who is most definitely not a ghost king or anything like that! Look, I can breathe!“ and then proceeded to info dump a shit ton of information about gods and shit like he’s Wikipedia which a normal, 100% average teenager who is most definitely not a ghost king would most positively not know.
However, our other two offenders actually thought they were fooling Xie Lian, whom may I remind you, is legit their childhood friend. They swapped color pallets and called it a day. And not only did they not try to not act like their selfs in the personality sense in their disguises, they also were just so bad at pretending not to be themselves. Like, someone says “General” in the cave where all the travelers were hiding and they both respond like it’s them being addressed. Idiots.
Also, the three of them just bicker half the time. Mu Qing and Feng Xin just kept yelling that this random nepo-baby Xie Lian picked up was so sus and trying to prove it to him while Xie Lian sits there and tells them to go for it while he snickers internally, knowing the identity of every single disguised person in the room.
These three legit had an argument about whether or not this “San Lang” could drink water. That’s just so fucking funny to me.
Honorable mentions in this arc is Feng Xin getting the shit beat out of him by Windmaster because he somehow was unaware that they swapped gendered forms (which btw, how the fuck did he not know this)?! Also, He Xuan and Hua Cheng just seeing each other in disguises because I wish I got their internal monologues for that.
Tldr: Banyue arc isn’t the best arc in the series, but it still stands as a fairly comedic regardless.

september 2007
the look of horror on your teacher’s face contrasted your calm demeanor. you thought she was overreacting when in truth she was not. you were too calm for what had just happened to you. doña rosy’s son had just cut off a huge chunk of your hair and was currently running around the class displaying it like a prize. the fact that you weren’t as upset as you should’ve been shocked your teacher.
the reality of it is that you thought pedro was cute and somehow instead of crying about your loss of hair you were rather flattered about it. you were quite literally insane for thinking that somehow this demonstrated that pedro liked you. at least that’s what your older cousin would say.
“boys are mean because they like you.” her words echoed in your mind.
soon the two of you along with your parents and pedro’s older brother fer were in the principals office. your mother was in shock and couldn’t believe that you’d have to start your hair growth process all over again. meanwhile, pedro’s mom was full of embarrassment and of course both father’s couldn’t help but laugh at the scene in front of them. after all you were both just kids who didn’t know better.
“well it seems your daughter isn’t too upset about the events that occurred therefore i have no reason to suspend pedro.” the principal decided.
“what? he cut off a chunk of my daughters hair! it will take months for it to grow back! surely there’s got to be some form of punishment for him?” your mother yelled.
“but mom i’m not mad at him.” you tried to tell her but she wouldn’t listen to you.
“fine. pedro is designated table cleaner after lunch for the rest of the month and no recess for a week.” the principal sighed.
“but mrs. dominguez we play football during recess hour i can’t miss it!” pedro whined.
“you should’ve thought about that before chasing your classmate with scissors and almost leaving her hairless.” she scolded him.
on the way out of mrs. dominguez’s office pedro’s parents couldn’t stop apologizing for what he had done. meanwhile, all you could do was stare at him. he was the cutest boy you had ever seen, given that you were only six and didn’t know any better obviously. it didn’t take long for him to notice your glare and he began to approach you slowly. you lifted your shoulders thinking this was finally going to be the moment he declared his undying love for you like men did in the movies. you stood there stupidly with a smile plastered on your face.
“i should’ve cut off the other side of your hair if i knew you’d stop me from playing football. i hate you.” he told you before chasing after his older brother.
any other girl would’ve started crying, well more like any other smart girl. they would’ve realized he meant what he said but not you. you simply thought he was bluffing that he still wasn’t ready to confess his feelings. so, you simply brushed it off and picked up your book bag. you couldn’t wait for saturday, the day your family always went to his parents restaurant to have dinner. maybe he’d confess then.
october 2013
the humid hot air of the island almost made you turn around and go back home but your foolishness made you continue your walk. it took you almost fifteen minutes to make it to the local football field but alas you had arrived on time for kickoff. you sat next to fer, someone you had somehow gotten close with the last few years. it also helped that he was pedro’s brother and allowed for you to be close to him.
“why are you here?” fer turned around to face you.
“geez, didn’t know i was such a bother to you.” you joked.
“oh, come on! i like you my brother hates you which is why i’m so surprised as to why you’re here.” he looks back onto the field spotting his brother.
“pedro doesn’t hate me he’s just too scared to confess his feelings for me.” you playfully hit fer on the shoulder.
“yeah, okay. just don’t give him too many children i don’t want to take care of too many kids in the future.” he jokes.
the both of you chat for a bit catching up on your day to day when all of a sudden the ball hits the back of the net and the local crowd, which consists purely of parents and siblings, goes wild. you notice it’s pedro who has scored as he starts running towards the area you and fer are located and blows a kiss to the crowd. like the delusional girl you are you pretend it’s meant for you. no, you know it is because you’re still stuck on the idea that pedro is devotedly in love with you.
the referee blows the whistle and tegueste takes the win with a score of 4-1. you immediately follow fer onto the pitch to congratulate his younger brother and find him chatting with his teammates. pedro immediately goes up to his brother and starts thanking him for coming as their parents couldn’t since it was a busy night at the restaurant. you get ready to tell him how well he played but as soon as he sees you he walks away.
you’re supposed to be embarrassed but somehow you think he’s the one who is. you think that he’s too nervous to be around you and that’s why he left so suddenly. you’re about to walk back home when one of his teammates stops you.
“hey!” he seems excited to talk to you.
“hi.” you greet him back.
“i’m xabi, does your brother play here?” he asks curiously.
“uh no. my friend does. pedro.” you explain.
“oh! pedro! he’s great! he’s going to be good i think. do you go to-” he’s interrupted by pedro himself.
pedro is too quick and silent you don’t even notice that he’s been sneaking up on you until he’s standing right in front of you. he’s staring at you with a devious smile on his face and you wish you knew what he was thinking.
“you know what we usually do after a win?” pedro asks you.
“we grab the buck-” xabi is once again interrupted.
“shut up xabi.” pedro turns around to shut xabi up.
“we usually grab the bucket of water and pour it on all the scorers but today i proposed that we do something differently. i think you were our lucky charm and that’s why we should pour it on you.” his smile somehow grows wider.
you’re flattered at first but then realization hits you. the dress you’re wearing is too cute to end up drenched. most importantly you didn’t want to get sick. your smile falters when you see his teammates approaching you with the large bucket of ice cold water.
“no, pedro please.” you beg.
he tries to hold you still but your instincts kick in and you immediately kick his ankle. he lets go and you immediately start running. you don’t realize it but he starts chasing after you. you’re about to cross the street when he grabs you from behind and pushes you against the wall. he has a smirk on his face again. you panic not wanting to get soaked. you try to kick him again but this time he doesn’t budge and you’re about to give up when suddenly an idea pops up in your mind.
you grab his cheeks and kiss him.
“what?” he’s confused.
you can’t help but smile at the way his cheeks turn pink but you don’t have a lot of time so as soon as his grip on you loose a you take a run for it. you arrive home exhausted and out of breath. you dramatically fall on your bed with a smile on your face excited that at your wedding you’ll be able to tell all your guests about today.
november 2019
it had been around a year since pedri, as they now called him, left the island in pursuit of a football career. it had also been six months since you gave up on the relationship you had hoped to have with him and it had been approximately three weeks since you had started seeing xabi. something you would’ve only thought would happen if pedri had stopped existing. fer told you to be more optimistic about xabi and that he actually liked you because he would’ve never pranked called the local pizzeria and sent forty pizzas to your house.
the three of you were currently gathered at the beach alongside some of pedri’s friends patiently waiting for him. fer had told you that he would be staying for a week before going back to preseason with las palmas. being the kind person you were you had organized a welcome back party for him with the help of fer. you’d paid for the food, drinks, and the cake that would be delivered later that night.
fer watched you carefully decorate one of the wooden tables with all the snacks and drinks. it was so obvious you still cared about his brother and it somehow made him mad that his brother never reciprocated your feelings. even though pedri didn’t owe it to you to feel the same way it just made him mad that he had always treated you bad for no reason. you had never done anything wrong to pedri prior to his teasing so fer always wondered where his brother’s hatred for you came from.
fer doesn’t have much time to wonder about his brother because said person was already making his way towards him. he’s about to run towards him when he notices somebody else behind him, a girl. he quickly turns around to look for you but you’re too distracted with making sure everything looks nice that you don’t notice pedri or the girl with him. it’s not until everyone starts greeting him that you notice his presence. you don’t expect him to talk to you so you stay back with xabi and that’s when you notice the girl next to him.
you’re surprised at yourself for feeling jealous and hurt because you thought you had finally moved on from your stupid childhood crush. xabi’s arm wraps around your waist at the sight of pedri as if the midfielder’s presence threatened him. you turn around facing the beach not wanting to see pedri and his girlfriend, you assumed that’s who she was. you’re too entranced by the waves to see the look he sends your way and more specifically the way he glared at xabi’s arm around your waist.
who did he think he was? just because he was named after one of the greatest spanish players of all time he was some hotshot? pedri mentally scoffs at the fact that his old teammate had finally been able to ask you out. he had practically drooled over year since the first time you showed up to his games. he grabs alba’s hand in spite. alba was just his friend but felt the urge to rub her in front of your face. he didn’t know why he felt so mad at seeing you with xabi or why he was also upset that you weren’t looking at him in admiration anymore.
“xabi! it’s been so long.” he greets your boyfriend.
you can smell his cologne, the one fer had bought for him last minute when he had visited his younger brother in las palmas. it was intoxicating. you finally turn around to face him and it’s like primary school all over again. you mentally slap yourself for still feeling flustered around him especially after all the damage he’d done to you. the girl he brought offers you a smile and you can only giver her a weak one back not knowing how to feel. xabi treated you so well yet he wasn’t pedri.
as soon as he’s done speaking with your boyfriend he walks away as expected. you don’t feel embarrassed nor angry anymore but rather relieved you don’t have to face the feelings you thought you didn’t have anymore. you took a step back fixing your skirt and making sure your appearance was okay. xabi notices how you fidget. he always does. he notices the smallest things and you hate that you can’t reciprocate how he feels to the max.
“he’s an asshole.” he whispers making sure the two of you are the only ones who hear.
“xabi, come on.” you whine not wanting anything to break out tonight.
“what? it’s true! he’s treated you like shit since we were kids and he still does it now. he didn’t even say hi to you when you planned this whole thing.” your boyfriend claims.
he’s right but you’d never stop making up excuses for the man you’d probably love for the rest of your life.
“i mean i did annoy him every single day of his life until he left. he doesn’t owe me anything.” you replied.
“yeah, you were like 10 with a little girl crush on him so it doesn’t give him the right to act like that. he should just tell you that he doesn’t like you and leave it at that. he probably doesn’t even know that you help out doña rosy at the restaurant, or that you helped fer with his exams, or that you had convinced the principal to not take away his recess time to play football! it’s not fair to you!” xabi exclaims.
“you’re right but i just don’t want to fight him. not today. so promise me you won’t start anything?” you beg him.
he scoffs but then offers you a weak smile himself.
“yeah, okay but if he pulls some messed up shit tonight i can’t promise i won’t beat him up.” you both laugh at his words.
the two of you are unaware that you’re being watched by said asshole and that he’s gripping his cup to the point that the sofa starts dripping out of it. he starts looking for his brother leaving alba alone. in fact he completely forgets about alba when he can only notice how infatuated you are by xabi. what did xabi have that he didn’t? besides compassion and kindness since pedri clearly had the looks.
“when did they start dating?” is the first thing he asks his brother.
“wow, not even a i missed you or how have you been?” his brother scoffs.
“i missed you so much.” pedri pretends to care. “now answer my question.”
“why does it matter? you hate her?” fer continues to pour himself a drink oblivious to the fact that his younger brother is completely losing it.
“so? doesn’t mean i can’t ask about her?” pedri scoffs. “plus, look at him he’s such a loser. she could do better i guess.”
“better like who? you? please, don’t make me laugh. you’ve treated her like shit your entire life just because you knew how madly in love she is with you and now you’re interested? now, that’s she moved on with someone who cares about her? she is doing better. now go attend the guest you brought. it’s bad manners to leave her alone.” fer taunts his younger brother.
“fuck you.” pedri was always determined on having the last word.
on the way back towards alba an idea forms in his mind. it doesn’t take long for him to get everyone together. he brings an empty bottle and places it in the middle of the circle everyone had formed. the midfielder had decided to play spin the bottle with his old friends.
“so, here are the rules!” he speaks up. “when it’s your turn you spin the bottle and you get to ask them truth or dare. but if you ask a stupid question for truth i’ll skip your turn. now, who wants to go first?”
the game starts out light and fun but as the game goes on it becomes more intense and interesting. fer had somehow ended up skinny dipping with the girl next to him and an old friend of yours had confessed that she was the one who gave your old principal food poisoning with the cupcakes she had made. before you know it, it’s pedri’s turn. you stare at the bottle intently hoping it doesn’t land on you but as if the universe heard you it lands on you. the smirk he has on his face reminds you of the one who always had when he was about to do something to you.
“truth or dare?” he asks.
“truth.” you decided to go for the lighter option.
“is it true that you lost your virginity to xabi?” his first question takes you by surprise.
“what the fuck pedri?” xabi yells at him.
“shut up xabi and let her answer.” pedri glares at him.
“i don’t understand why that’s any of your concern-” you start.
“just answer the question and we’ll move on.” he urges.
“no.” you reply simply wanting to get this over with and go home.
fer is about to spin the bottle before pedri stops him. he looks back at you with a sly grin. your stomach churns and you start getting a bad feeling.
“wait, i’m not done. is it also true that you’ve had a crush on me since you were five and thought we would end up together even though i find you repulsive?” pedri started ranting.
you feel everyone’s eyes on you and soon you feel your eyes brim with tears. you don’t know why he’s suddenly putting you on the spot when you hadn’t spoken to him in a year. you’d thought he would’ve left you alone now that you were with xabi.
“well, don’t be shy now. come on? do you think about me when xabi kisses you or touc-” you don’t let him finish because you slap him, hard.
“maybe i was a pathetic little girl then who had no self respect but i do now so don’t ever talk to me like that again. i don’t care if you’re a future football star or the future prince of spain you have no right to speak to me like that. go to hell pedro.” you pick up your things getting ready to leave.
you take out thirty euros and hand them to fer.
“for the cake delivery. he should be here at 9.” is the last thing you say before you walk away with xabi closely following behind.
“what the fuck is your problem? did you just come back here to say all that bullshit to her?” fer confronts his younger brother.
“she shouldn’t have been here in the first place. she’s like a parasite.” pedri scoffs.
“without her i wouldn’t have planned this! she paid for everything and spent the whole day decorating this for you! she helps mom and dad out at the restaurant now that we get tourists there almost everyday. she helped me pass my exams and most importantly all those gifts i gave you when i visited where picked out by her. so, go to hell. i don’t wanna see you for the rest of the night so go home.” fer let’s him know.
pedri stands there in shock not knowing what to say. suddenly he feels horrible but he doesn’t want everyone else to notice so he picks up his shoulders ready to go home.
“oh and stay away from her. she finally found someone who cares about her and i don’t need your jealousy ruining that. xabi is going to play for girona next year and he’ll take care of her. i don’t need you fucking up anything else.” is the last thing his brother tells him.
you wake up to loud knocks on your door. you notice xabi isn’t next to you anymore meaning he’d probably left for training already. you yawn before slowly making your way towards the door. you don’t even check before opening the door something you regret when you see who’s on the other side. it’s pedri but now he’s rocking a black eye.
“your boyfriend paid me a visit last night.” is the first thing he says to you.
“shame.” you reply.
“huh?” he questions
“shame he didn’t get the other one as well.” you cross your arms.
“okay, i deserve that.”
“look pedri you have five minutes to tell me why you’re here before i call your parents and tell them you’re harassing me.” you say.
“i came to apologize. i was out of line last night and i fucked up. in truth i think i realized that i was jealo-”
“don’t pedri. you’ve had twelve years to tell me that you liked me or had a crush on me and instead you spent every single one of those humiliating me. maybe i was annoying but i have never disrespected you. now, leave. i’m happy with xabi and you’re not going to ruin that.” you interrupt him.
“but-”
“leave. we were never meant to happen. xabi is my person and i hope you find yours. hopefully someone nice and not full of hatred like you.” you slammed the door closed in front of him.
that day you call in sick for work and the day after that and so on until you heard news that pedri had gone back. his parents didn’t even question your absence after fer had told them what happened. you cried the first two days and then spent the next few days with xabi. in the span of those days he had asked you to move with him to girona and you didn’t even hesitate before accepting. maybe if you moved you’d loose all memories of the brown eyed boy you had once worshipped.
present day
the adjustment to barcelona wasn’t hard. the few years you were in girona were enough to learn catalan easily so you could communicate with almost anyone. the only problem was getting used to your new job at fc barcelona as a physical therapist. most of the players at girona barely stopped by opting to have surgery and recovering with their own staff. but at barça it was different, you were always busy with injured players as well as recovering players.
xabi and you had parted ways roughly six months ago when he transferred to roma. you couldn’t make the move not wanting to be too far from your home and you were surprised that he understood and took it likely. it was a rough breakup but not because he treated you bad or anything but because he had cared so much and now you felt alone. like you were missing your best friend.
you had stopped keeping up with pedri so you had no idea where he was now and had even stopped talking to fer to which he understood why. he wasn’t mad but he was upset that your friendship had failed because of his asshole brother. alas you shake your thoughts away when a knock on your office door interrupts you.
“come in!” you pick up the file that had been dropped off earlier about the player you’d be seeing today.
the door opens but you’re too engrossed by the files to notice who it is. you’re halfway into the summary of his injury until you notice you don’t even know who you’re treating. when you see the name up top your mind goes blank. you almost walk out the door at the sight of pedro’s name. you spend a few minutes panicking before remembering you’re being paid to be a professional so you gently get back into that mindset and set the file down.
“so the process of your recovery will include-”
“so, you’re just going to pretend that we don’t know each other?” pedri asks you.
“for the remainder of the time that i will work here? yes. now shut up and let me explain how your recovery process will go if you want to play again this season.” you scold him.
he just scoffs and shuts up.
“i assume the medical staff has already told you that you need to apply ice packs to the injured area several times a day as well as taking pain medicine?” you ask him.
“yeah.” he replies staring at the roof wanting to avoid your glare.
“okay so, as part of the healing process i’ll advise you certain gentle hamstring stretches to strengthen you and when the pain begins to subside we’ll move on to harder strengthening exercises. we’ll start working on them on tuesday. i believe that’s all so unless you have any other muscular issues or problems please let me know now.” you reply as stiffly as possible.
“are you and xabi still dating? i mean i assume you’re not or else you’d be in roma. unless you’re doing long distance but i doubt it, it never works out. he’s probably cheated on you by now.” pedri simply starts blabbering nonsense.
“don’t really understand why any of that concerns you.” you turn around to type up his file to the database.
“because you’re too good for him and quite frankly i don’t think you should be with him.” he stands near your desk.
“who should i be with? the asshole that let everyone back home know i was a virgin? don’t make me laugh pedro.” you look up at him to meet that same mischievous smirk from twelve years ago.
“i’ve changed.” he admits.
“good for you pedro. there are plenty of other people in the sea that you could go after. unfortunately for you i’m not one of them. so please be professional and leave me alone. i have to see gavi in an hour so i have to get ready for that.” you urge him to leave.
“please, gavi isn’t even in need of physical therapy he just thinks you’re cute.” pedri laughs.
“like you? at least he’s professional and doesn’t throw soup all over me when i approach him for lunch.” you give him a smile.
pedri steps back realizing how much of a bad person he had been to you. he couldn’t even remember all the things you were accusing him of. he suddenly feels bad for that night at the beach where he had humiliated you in front of everyone just because he thought you were too good for xabi. when in reality he was perfect for you.
“look i’m really sorry for what i did to you. for all of it. i’m not the same person i was at the beach four years ago. and you don’t owe me anything but i’d really like to take you out to dinner and make it up to you.” he begs.
“pedri, you constantly made me feel insecure about myself, humiliated me, made me wear a bob cut so short i might as well have gone bald, and bullied me for my whole childhood so a simple i’m sorry isn’t going to cut it. now, get out of my office please.” you point towards the door.
pedri simply sighs in defeat before making his way out of your office. but he doesn’t give up because as soon as your sessions with him start you’re met with flowers on your desk, links to random memes he finds on the internet, and invitations to all the fancy and expensive restaurants in the vicinity. although what finally makes you give in are the coldplay tickets he offers you.
“what the fuck, pedri?” you jump up at the envelope on your desk. “i can’t possibly accept these? they’re like the best seats as well? oh my god.”
“yes, you can and you will. my recovering process is going much faster than expected because of you and you always mentioned how much you loved the band growing up. please take them.” he urges you.
you don’t know what comes over but you’re suddenly that little girl trying to cross the street and you grab him by the cheeks. you kiss him without a second thought but this time he kisses you back. it’s a short but meaningful kiss.
“i should buy you coldplay tickets more often, huh?” he teases you.
“oh, shut up.” you blush.
he slowly creeps up next to you and wraps his arms around you before removing a strand of hair from your ear.
“in five years when we get married i’ll tell our guests about this.” he whispers into your ears.
a sudden rush of heat is felt near your cheeks and you can’t believe that six year old girl inside of you has won. you stare in awe at the midfielder, not the one you hate and despise but the one you’ve learned to love. the one who will cherish you for the rest of his life. he kisses you with so much fervor and passion you forget to breathe. his hatred for you the hatred that had never existed is now replaced by adoration and love. and you smile once again at the thought of telling this lifelong story to your wedding guests.

Tumblr media
(a/n): ANNIE X BRADY GIRLIES THIS IS FOR YOUUUU!!!! getting back into some 'early days' sorta stuff for these two that i felt were needed for their connection. just those early moments of first meetings and interactions that i wanted to work with a bit! and ofc a cameo from co-pilot francis who is my fav of favs fr! a queen in true form!!! i hope you all (and poet most of all - this was a great prompt THANK YOU) enjoy!!! :D
“Silver Bullets should’ve been put into mass production the day she made the run over Caen,” Francis said, pulling her cigarette from her lip and patting the edge of the wing, the early dawn rays of the sun tickling the edges of the metal, “flies like a fucking angel, I tell ya, Bradshaw.”
Annie looked up at the large berth of wingspan for the B-17 and smiled a bit; it was evident how much Francis cared about the plane, like it was this thing they were caring for day by day, somehow watching it grow. It seemed Francis was coming around - they were actually on a name-to-name basis rather than incredibly formal 'Lieutenant Bradshaw' and 'Lieutenant Montez' callings. It was actually kind of nice. Annie knew Francis still held her bearings about everything, but she was more receptive and open-minded than she had been a few days back.
“So, how’d you get wrapped up in all this?” Francis said turning to Annie, a slightly darkened look in her eyes, “Some stupid bet, couldn’t handle a joke from a sick fucko back home? I’ll do you one better, an old boyfriend who thinks he’s God’s greatest gift-“
"Joined the WAC," Annie said, rather unceremoniously - not like her mother had been pleased, so Annie was just used to the lackluster of it all because of that fact (no one had been excited for such a thing, for someone like her, from where she was from), "started ferrying planes - fuel reloads, supply drops. Seems they liked me in the higher ups. Now I'm here." Francis watched her for a moment, smoke lingering up from the butt of her cigarette. With their uniforms on, they both actually looked half-decent - no pilot gear and uniform looking mangled from a mission, no sweat, burnt pieces of hair, frozen eyebrows and bloodied cheeks. Just like normal people for once.
“You know, I like that for you,” Francis said, “I had some guy tell me I could never pilot a plane. Showed him up.” Annie smirked from behind her aviators at Francis - quite the character, she could hold her own and had no problem telling it how it was. Yeah, Annie was already sold, even if Francis wasn't sold on her.
“So. The WAC. Do tell.” Francis said, pointing at her.
“Well, I did translating for a good period of time before I was wrapped up in flying. Gotta say if the opportunity had been presented, I would've stuck with it.”
“Whatcha translating?”
“German, French…tried to get a handle on Russian. Still trying my best with that.”
“Damn, Bradshaw,” Francis said before pointing a finger at her, “what the hell did that have to do with flying?”
“They said we couldn’t do it.” Annie offered back, crossing her arms and shrugging, "That sorta stuff you listen to, even if you don't want to. And then you do, even if they think you can't."
"Birdie really would've loved you." Francis said, the first real genuine smile growing on her face as she crossed her arms, "Wanna see inside?"
Climbing up into the belly of the plane, the lingering silence hit her like bricks, the feeling inside the fort. What had happened here. What they all knew had happened her; what the women of Silver Bullets had experienced. What had Montez said to let them know their pilot was dead? That she had to take control of the plane and the body was in the front seat? What mind-fuck had they gone through to wrap their minds around that fact?
"Pretty isn't it?" Francis said from behind her, briefly patting the edge of one of the seats as they both moved towards the cockpit.
"She's beautiful." Annie said, adjusting herself in the left side of the cockpit, running her hands along the buttons and the wheel and the edges of the window, "Really, it's a beautiful plane."
Glancing back at Francis, she noticed the woman far-off it seemed, eyes glazed, staring somewhere out to the hazy horizon. Annie slowly brought her focus forward again - Birdie had died here. Right where Annie was sat. It was a wonder Francis could even walk up here again - Annie gave her a lot of credit.
"Well," Francis started, blowing breath from her lips, a quick smile darting onto her lips, "we'll have plenty of time to admire this bucket of bolts in the coming days, for now…we oughta get ourselves to the dining hall. Breakfast. Ain't they say it's the most important meal of the day?"
Francis' voiced trailed off somewhere between her talking about breakfast and saying how she thought the most important meal of the day was actually dessert. Annie stood there for a moment, in the middle of the plane, lingering in the stillness, the plane that had launched that crew up into the sky and came back down without a pilot. Who still stood tall and strong, right here, right now.
Annie tried to clear her mind. She hopped out of the plane, landing beside Francis, rather gracefully, and looked up at the co-pilot in the morning sun, who was grinning like a goose at her.
"How many missions you been on?" Annie asked Francis, genuinely curious. She was trying to connect the dots from the incident to now. Had they been up in the plane after what had happened? With a new replacement that hadn't made the cut? How many had Birdie been on?
"Only two." Francis said with a slightly constrained look, before seeming to shrug it off as they made way towards the dining hall, "They wouldn't allow us to go with any of the replacements until we did a practice run or two. As you can see, those didn't go too well." Annie glanced at Francis and evidently saw the stress running rampage through her. It was evident in her face, in the way she spoke - she wanted something to work, she wanted to get in the sky again, she needed something to go right for the first time.
"If I get the position. Officially, that is," Annie started, looking up at Francis, "I intend to keep Silver Bullets as one of the best B-17s in the air. With the crew we've got, the co-pilot," Francis smiled, "I don't doubt that. Birdie had the crew for a reason." Francis watched her, a bit of sentimental air wafting through them as Francis reached out and squeezed her shoulder.
"You're a good one, Bradshaw," Francis said and Annie quirked out a smile, "c'mon."
Entering the dining hall - Annie realized quickly it was only for officers and high-ranking officials when she saw the likes of Major Cleven and Major Egan at a table together, huddled over some coffee alongside Kidd, Crank and DeMarco.
"Here we go." Francis said, leading Annie towards the center strip of table, covered in a white tablecloth, filled with all sorts of baskets of goods, utensils, coffee and mugs, "Usually, you can just get it served to you. But. Figured you'd want to see the spread, huh?" Annie's eyes widened at the assortment of things as Francis gently gave her shoulder a tap.
"I'll get us a table, get your fill, I'll get the food." Francis said before walking off, giving a wave to a few, fellow officers down a few rows of tables, bee-lining towards the food line.
Annie stood quietly for a moment, her eyes running over the length of the table in slight amusement and wonder. Growing up, she never had the sort of luxury as much as simple things like sugar or cream - even in coffee. Coffee was usually black, and a little watered down (it saved them from having to buy so many coffee grounds, you know?), and usually it was bitter. But you washed it down because it was what you had.
Now - there was sugar, cream, honey, biscuits for dipping, actual cloth napkins, a little spoon just for stirring! Gently, she touched the white tablecloth, the soft texture something so delicate and foreign to her in ways someone shouldn't have to think of.
Tablecloths were rough, scratchy and torn where she came from.
Here - they were soft, cream and stitched.
Annie retracted her hand and instead focused on the coffee.
Coffee.
Sometimes all she wanted day in and day out was coffee.
Reaching forward, she picked up a mug and cradled it in her hands - it was still warm, like it had just been freshly cleaned, straight from the hot water.
Annie had remembered feeling out of place before - plenty of times had she done things in her life where being the odd one out was normal for her. But now - even with just beautiful tablecloths and hot coffee mugs - she felt like being the odd one out was something she had to address. Right now.
Glancing around, officers and officials at the tables weren't looking at her (of course, they wouldn't be, why would they, this is normal for them), but for her, being in a place like this? With things like this? Annie set the mug down and then looked at the pot of steaming coffee. She debated. Did she need the cup of coffee?
"Hey," a voice said from somewhere to her left, causing her to turn away from the coffee pot and towards the voice, finding Lieutenant John Brady there, a smile on his face, as he slowly removed his crusher cap, "Bradshaw, right? New pilot for Silver Bullets?" A smile popped onto Annie's face as she suddenly took in that it was that pilot - from a day or two back - John Brady.
A part of her had been wondering when she'd see him again or even just around. He'd been nice, hospitable, and had a funny sense of humor she could get behind. People like that you wanted in your back pocket. Even if all she knew was his name and that he had a nice face.
"Yes. Annie Bradshaw." she said, unable to help her ever-present mannerisms and held out her hand (as if they hadn't met a few days ago and they'd all but tag-teamed Major Egan), "….uh, Brady?" He grinned - she knew it was him too, she couldn't forget a face like that, but she wanted to test the waters. Give a bit of it back.
"Brady. John Brady." he said, reaching forward to shake her hand, smile growing on his own face, "How's it been going? Hopefully Egan wasn't bearing too hard after your introduction a few days ago." Annie laughed - almost a bit nervously and awkwardly - trying to make impressions was something she was never great with, but things usually weighed in her favor at the end of the day.
"No, no, it was fine, really," Annie said, as she slowly dropped his hand, a slight tinge of warmth pooled in her stomach at the thought of his hand again - and the fact that was the second time she had even touched his hand, "Major Egan is definitely quite the character."
"That he is." Brady said with a laugh, shoving his hands in his pockets, nodding to her aviators in her front pocket, "Busy day?"
"Francis' showed me Silver Bullets," Annie said with a nod and a smile, "she's a beautiful plane." Brady smiled at her and then glanced over Annie's shoulder at Francis, before readjusting his eyes on her.
"That crew's really glad you're here," Brady said, face falling slightly, "after what happened…." Annie nodded to fill in the gapping hole of words.
"I'm giving them my all. After everything." Annie said quietly and Brady nodded, watching her, something in his lingering gaze a comfort in a way she would never make out, "Well, don't let me be in your way-"
"No, no not at all," Brady said quickly with a nod, "coffee drinker?"
"Yeah," she said, reaching up to run her hand along her hot collar a bit - almost like she couldn't get her mind in gear properly, "never did have much of any of these sorts of fixings back home, so….to say the least, I'm pretty stoked to try it out." She looked back to Brady who was watching her with a quiet look on his face, a soft grin riding his cheeks as he reached forward and took his own mug.
"You said you were from Mankato? Minnesota?" he asked her as she reached forward and picked up the pot of coffee and began pouring.
"Yeah," she said, turning to look at him as she poured, "didn't have a whole lot, but…it was home." There was a twinge of pain to that word. Home. Her mind blanked for a moment, before she was hearing a voice in her ear and her hand was burning.
"Look at you! You're spilling coffee. Here, here-" Annie blinked and turned her eyes and found Brady slowly removing the coffee pot from her grasp, the mug overflowing with hot coffee there on the starch table clothes, stained with dark puddles of drying liquid, her heart pounding. She watched frozen as Brady grabbed some napkins to dab at it, before looking to her gaze again.
"You okay there?" he asked her, placing a hand on her shoulder, "Didn't mean to batter you with questions, I swear my folks just raised me like that, questions and all-
""No." Annie said quickly, shaking her head and looking at her hand stained with hot coffee and gave a nervous smile, cheeks turning a bit pink, "I got….distracted. About home and this place. It's…it's all good. Sorry. About the coffee. And now the damn table cloths." Brady chuckled and took his hand off her shoulder and grabbed the empty mug and poured the coffee to a reasonable amount before handing it to her.
"Don't you worry, Little Birdie," he said with a smile, "it's a big place here. Lots to look at, get distracted by. Being so far from home anyway, that is. I'll let the cooks know-"
"Little Birdie?" she said, interrupting his train of thought. Brady grinned.
"You're a lot like Birdie. Captain Faulkner. You remind me of her, ya know? So - Little Birdie." he said with a smile, "Much better than Egan calling you No Name, too." Annie let out a laugh and nodded.
"Yeah, way better." she said and Brady smiled. For a moment, they stared at each other before Annie cleared her throat and looked at the coffee cup and back up at him.
"I'll be-"
"Your hand okay-" The two looked at each other before letting out a few nervous laughs.
"You first." Annie said, "Rank does its duties."
"We're both Lieutenants, Bradshaw."
"You're 1st. I'm 2nd." she said with a smile, "So?" Brady smirked, before the corner of his eyes and lips softened.
"Your hand okay? The coffee was pretty hot." he said softly and she nodded.
"Fine." she said, "Had cuts and bruises worse than this. Climbed trees as a kid." Brady watched her, brow peaked in interest. She smirked. "Also fell out of a lot of trees, too, so….all good." Brady let out a chuckle at her words, watching expectantly as she cleared her throat.
"And yes…..I was just going to be going. Don't want to hold you up." she said and then looked up at him. "I'll see you around?"
"Yeah, of course," Brady said, "probably flying club, right?" Annie raised a brow.
"Flying club?" She really was quite clueless on more than she thought.
"Drinks, dancing, music - get the tension out of your shoulders sorta thing." he said, another grin growing, "So, I'll probably see ya tonight?"
"Right." Annie said with a smile, holding the mug close to her, forgetting about cream or sugar, "Sounds good to me. I'll see you around. Thanks. Sorry again." And with that, she was turning away, slightly mortified at her clear inability to pour coffee efficiently. She hurried towards Francis at a table with their food, slamming her body and the mug of coffee down, meeting Francis' slightly annoyed gaze at the rough presence announced.
"You okay?" Francis asked her, eyeing the coffee and Annie's face again, "You look a little flustered. Hey, you drink black coffee?" Annie looked between the coffee and Francis and then sighed again.
"I meant to grab…." Annie looked over her shoulder and watched as Brady poured some cream into his own coffee cup - the one she had previously overflowed, to her own mortifying realization - and was now wandering away with, sipping it ever so gently, settling into a spot beside DeMarco. A pair of fingers snapped in front of her face and she turned quickly to look at Francis.
"Grab what? The LT's attention or a donut?" Francis said, before chuckling at Annie's slightly flustered expression and chuckled, "I'm just kidding you, c'mon, let's eat up. I think we're doing a practice run, just us girls - maybe with Just-A-Snappin', too." Francis bit into a piece of toast, "Harding wants to see us in the air. 'Longside another crew."
"Alright." Annie said with a nod, "We can make that happen." Francis smiled.
"Good," Francis said, "now, eat up. Don't need my pilot going hungry in the cockpit. Might have to feed you some of Margie's crushed up peanuts she's always carrying around-"
"Oh God." Annie murmured, "Bessie warned me….briefly…"
"Yeah, they're a goddamn curse on that thing, but she swears on it. Superstitious that one is." Annie chuckled at Francis' words and they continued to eat and discuss their day. Annie couldn't help but think of it all though - porcelain, silk and starch.
Everything and all things.
When you came from nothing, things like that were practically gold.

Episode 7 predictions since it’s 2024
1. N and Uzi kiss scene
This one’s pretty simple, I really want to see them kiss, you want to see them kiss, everyone wants to see them kiss
2. Nori and Yeva flashback scene
I really do think that teaser that Glitch posted is a flashback with Nori and Yeva trying to find the cure too, it would make sense for them too especially with their connection to the Absolute Solver and the camp
The theories are nice but I don’t think that Nori and Yeva would just show up out of the blue randomly especially when they’re supposed to be dead, it made sort of sense with Doll but doesn’t make sense with those two cause why the hell did it take that long to come back, just seems like a flashback to me, also this would be good for some content on what not only were they like but also hopefully mention of Khan and Uzi from Nori’s mouth cause we still have no idea if Nori is even a good guy
3. Separation
It seems like from the trailer that N, Uzi and Tessa are going to be seperated. This would be good for some good sweet character development and how they handle things alone, Tessa might be looking at the dorms? Lockers? Idk what they are but of the patients especially Nori’s and hers might have something deeply puzzling Tessa because she full on slammed the door lol
4. Nuzi confession scene
Should’ve probably put this in first but I’m HOPING that N and Uzi confess their feelings, especially with the fact that they might die I’d be happy if they at least confessed before Episode 8 (the last episode) so we can see them being happy with each other before the angst
5. N shirtless
6. More Tessa scenes
I know girlie is really suspicious at the moment and I absolutely despise her for the whole kill Uzi thing but I actually really like Tessa she’s so quirky and so unaware of things it’s kinda funny
I love you Australian woman I still hate you for the kill Uzi thing tho
7. Fluff moments
As you know I hate angst, it makes me sad ☹️
8. Merch
I hope there’s more merch of characters that never got the chance to have some merch, as much as I love the N and Uzi merch there is not a lot of merch with the other characters like J, Tessa, Cyn, etc
Even V, I don’t want her to be in the episode but I think that she’s gotten at least 5 pieces of merch? Can’t really tell but I hope that J fans do get that plushie
I hope they make more keychains and stickers too, posters would be nice as well or even mats. Just some new pieces of merch instead of plushies, pins and Animatez (as much as I love them, I do hope that’s not all of it)
9. The absolute solver fucks off
I hate the absolute solver my girl could die because of it grrrraahhhhhh 😡🤬
That’s it, like share and subscribe for more content 😎

Toontown: Corporate Clash Recap: Ye Olde Toontowne Sidetasks 1
Alright, you know the drill, three Sidetasks, starting from the Street you’ll likely enter the Neighborhood through:
Used to be an Adventurer
To start this task, you need to visit Ariel Septime VII, a lavender beaver who runs the shop “Arrow to the Knee – Traveler’s Infirmary” on Noble Nook.
“Traveller! Cometh closeth, and help me of mine own weary situation!”
“For many a year I had been a traveller, or an adventurer if thee shall.”
“I was, to sayeth, an adventurer just liketh thee.”
“Until I tooketh an arrow to mine own thee, that is.”
“Oh how I dreameth to be a young Toon again, traveling the world with no careth…”
“Haply thee couldst changeth things for me, [Toon Name].”
“If thee could removeth the arrow from mine own knee.”
“And haply findeth someone to taketh over mine own shopeth while I’m out, I couldst teachest thee a few pointers.”
“Something I learned from mine own many travels. A way to traveleth here to Ye Olde Toontowne quickly.”
“So let us starteth with pulling it. Stout wire from those robots roaming ‘round shouldst do the trick.”
“Bringeth backeth plenty, as I can’t bareth for one to breaketh and be stuck with mine own condition for any longer!”
Yes… This is how the Toons talk round these parts.
Anyways, you need to recover 5 Strong Wires from the Cogs in Ye Olde Toontowne. Once that’s done, bring them back to Ariel for the next step.
“This shouldst be it. Now excuse me as I useth mine own pulley to tryeth and dislodge this arrow.”
“I mustn’t have thee here while I attempteth this. For I may emit quite a girly screameth.”
“I requesteth thee defeat some more of these stout robotic beings yond roam these streets.”
“Returneth to me at which hour thy task is done. And hopefully mine own owneth task shalt be done.”
Translation: Defeat 15 level 6+ Cogs in Ye Olde Toontowne.
After that, it’s time to see how Ariel is doing with his knee problems.
“Traveler, thee’ve hath returned!”
“I giveth thee most wonrous news on mine own behalf.”
“Mine own knee is arrow-free!”
“What relief this season’d adventurer doth feel.”
“Now I must asketh one lasteth thing of thee.”
“Bringeth me a bandage from a Spin Doctor, to keepeth my knee in the most wondrous shapeth possible for mine own upcoming travels!”
“Then I shall teachest thee the ways to get backeth here faster than ever.”
In case you couldn’t parse it through his grammar, Ariel needs you to fetch him a Bandage from a Spin Doctor.
Once you’ve returned with the bandage Ariel Septim VII should’ve gotten BEFORE pulling the arrow out, he has this to say to you.
“Thanketh thee for all thy help, traveler.”
“Now I shalt teachest thee how to useth thy portable hole to travel straight to this wondrous landeth.”
“Bethink of the most wondrous distances many Toons that cameth before thee did travel.”
“Bethink of the excitement and wonders hath found 'long their way.”
“Channel this in thy mind as thee jumpeth through, and at which second thee ope thy eyes, thee’ll findeth yourself here in Ye Olde Toontowne.”
“Good luck, and perhaps I’ll seeth thee during mine own adventures to cometh!”
This earns you 6,176 experience, 300 Jellybeans, and Teleport Access to Ye Olde Toontowne.
And if you’re curious, the secret for Barnacle Boatyard’s Teleport Access can be found here.
Our next two Tasks are in the Playground, starting with:
Dungeon Duty
The Dungeon can be found in the wall, behind the vacant building next to Noble Nook’s Tunnel.
Once inside, ignore the big gate in the back with the Gear Sigils on the floor in front of it, and go into the cell with the open door.
There, you’ll meet an eyepatch-wearing green pig wizard in prisoner stripes by the name of “Doyle N. Trouble”.
Why don’t we see what he’s in for?
“Pssst! You wanna learn some magic?”
“If you help old Doyle N. Trouble out here, I can teach you a thing or two. Some real magical stuff.”
“You see, I was a real hotshot for a while, a prodigy.”
“The Elders back in the playground trained me on their own, and it worked well enough.”
“I started learning their magic, and then I found out there were some bogus rules they enforced.”
“When training, no magic is to be done out of sight. No magic that affects other Toons, all kinds of things that I thought were just silly…”
“So what if I made Al’s nose huge for a day, or if I made Enna’s hat shrink?”
“Or firing the Gag Shoppe’s catapult, making it rain pies over the entire playground.”
“They were just harmless pranks, right?”
“Well not to them…”
“They locked me up here and threw away the key.”
“Now of course I did a little magic here and popped the door open, but they casted a spell upon the doors at the top of the dungeon.”
“I can’t get out of here, [Toon Name]. And it drives me nuts.”
“But hey, this is my fate, so be it.”
“So I want you to do some things for me.”
“Simple stuff really. Making me more comfortable, helping me out, the usual stuff you’d expect from a locked-up prisoner.”
“So let’s start with comfort.”
“I want money bags.”
“No, not for buying stuff…”
“For laying my head on!”
“Go and fight some of those Money Bags roaming around up there and bring me back some of their money bags.”
“I need to find comfort in something and these empty floors and plain walls don’t have anything.”
“Now go.”
Well, he might be a felon, but at least he doesn’t speak in badly butchered Shakespearean English.
Anyways, you need to recover 5 Money Bags from Money Bags, and bring them back to Doyle.
“Hey, that’s impressive. Those are some nice sacks of cash you’ve got there, [Toon Name].”
“Perfect for resting my head on. Plenty of time to catch up on naps in this place, after all.”
“So now let’s talk eats. I haven’t had a decent bite to eat in a while, and I’m starving!”
“Don’t get me started on the nutritional garbage the elders conjure up for me, I can’t stand it!”
“I want you to go see Steamed Bams at the aptly named Dungeon Luncheon over on Noble Nook.”
“Bring me back some grub, I need something freshly made…”
Steamed Bams is a Dark Yellow Cat.
Do I need to say what he’s referencing?
“Traveler, welcometh!”
“I desire thou art prepared for a mem'rable eating experience!”
“Oh, ho, ho! How I findeth it delightfully devilish to sayeth that to each customer.”
“Looking for a meal to go, art thee?”
“I can doth that for a price, or a task.”
“What doth thee prefer, traveler?”
“Task. Most wondrous choice!”
“I pride myself in exchanging meals for those who doth most wondrous work for the community.”
“So just head out and defeat the stout Cogs invading our lands.”
“At which hour thee’ve hath reached the pointeth thee cannot square any longer, returneth to me.”
“I shall giveth thee a feast to enjoy.”
“Good luck traveler.”
20 level 5+ Cogs is the most you can defeateth before “thee cannot square any longer” and hence you must returneth to him.
(Oh no it’s contagiouseth.)
“Here thee go traveler, I desire thee findeth it a memorable eating experience!”
“Visiteth anytime thee’d liketh to go again!”
And now it’s time to take Some Food back to Doyle N. Trouble.
“My, my, my! This sure looks good.”
“But it doesn’t have any utensils, and I’m no barbarian.”
“I’m excited for my feast, but I have to eat it like a civil Toon!”
“Go and collect metal pieces from one of those Cog buildings I’ve seen above ground.”
“I can transform that stuff into forks and spoons with the flick of a finger.”
“Once you do that for me, then you’ll get your magic spell. And trust me, it’s an eye-opening one.”
“Don’t come back without those mechanical pieces!”
I’m starting to see why they locked him up down here.
Anyways, just recover some Mechanical Pieces from a Cog Building and bring it back to Doyle for your reward.
“There we are. Perfect.”
“You’re lucky, if you took any longer I’d make your feet grow five sizes bigger.”
“Now, are you ready for this magic spell?”
“It’s a spell that even the Elders don’t know about. Not a single Toon here in Ye Olde Toontowne does for that matter.”
“Get ready… and…”
“BLAMMO!”
“It’s your lucky day, [Toon Name]. I’ve just casted it upon you.”
“You will now find yourself richer. Both in wealth and in experience.”
“Now, don’t tell the Elders what you did, and don’t let them know I got this door open.”
“If they find this out, they might just stick me back behind that gate thing over there, and I don’t care much to find out what that is.”
“See you around, [Toon Name].”
And with that, you now have 12,128 more experience and 600 Jellybeans.
Why no unique reward?
When Toontown Corporate Clash launched, Ye Olde Toontowne had a unique filter that gave it a black and white, grainy look. Toons could complete “Dungeon Duty” for the option to turn the filter off and see what Ye Olde Toontowne looked like in full color. When players complained about the filter being hard on their eyes, they changed it so the filter was OFF by default and you needed to complete Dungeon Duty to turn it on, but still had the filter ONLY work in Ye Olde Toontowne. Eventually, the filter was dummied out when OTHER filters were added (filters that worked no matter where in the game you were), and got removed entirely in the same update that renamed some of the significant Ye Olde Toontowne NPC’s.
To compensate for this, the Task’s Experience and Jellybean rewards were doubled from what they used to be.
That bit of trivia out of the way, let’s move on to the next task, also located in the playground:
The Golden Penny
Oh hey it’s Tumbles again! Let’s see what that Toony Tourist is up to this time! Just run up to his spot by the Playground’s wall, and…
“Hey maaaaaaan, great to see you again! I was just getting some pictures of this rad wishing well.”
“You wouldn’t happen to have a spare coin on you so I can make a wish, would ya?”
“No? Bummer…”
“Say, I overheard some Toons talking 'bout these dull skyscrapers full of cash! I wonder if you could find one in there!”
We gotta recover A Golden Penny from a Cashbot Cog Building Anywhere.
Once we’ve gotten that coin, we can just hand it over to Tumbles.
“You got some change, [Toon Name]? Hand it over maaaaaaan.”
“Woah, look at this golden penny bro, it must be ancient!”
“I wonder if the elders who passed by earlier know anything about it.”
“It could be worth a thousand pennies maaaaaaan, think of all the camera film I could wish for with that!”
Anyways, you gotta bring it to Al Kemical (formerly “Al Bumbledorf”) in the Elder Headquarters to get it appraised.
“Ah, [Toon Name], it’s good to see thee!”
“An old penny thou bring? I’d love to have a gander, but it seems as though my vision isn’t as good as it used to be.”
“Could thou get me some glasses, [Toon Name]? Not just any plain glasses though, something fit for an elder such as myself.”
“Perhaps one of those fancy monocles from Shark Watchers would do the trick!”
Once you’ve taken A Monocle from a Shark Watcher, you can bring it back to Al to see what he thinks now.
“I must thank thee young Toon, this monocle will help me see clear as day!”
“Now, let me see that coin thou have brought to me for inspection.”
“…”
“This isn’t just any coin thoust got here, it is certainly special.”
“I sense great luck emitting from its very being, but I fear I can’t tell thee any more.”
“Perhaps our resident sorcerer Merlin can tell you more. Good luck, [Toon Name]!”
Merlin Ambrice is a neon pink raccoon who runs the Ravenward School of Magical Arts on Wizard Way.
Here’s what he has to say (updated to reflect the in-game Toon Names):
“Greetings, young wizard!”
“What is this that thou hast brought to my shop?”
“A magical coin you say?”
“Preposterous!”
“For all I know, some sort of hex has been cast on it from the Cashbots!”
“Kemical himself said it may bring great fortune?”
“Hmm… I’m not so sure, but if thee can keep those curse bearing Cashbots off my street I can take a closer look.”
You need to defeat 10 Cashbots in Ye Olde Toontowne to satisfy Merlin.
“Wonderful, you have returned!”
“While thou was banishing those dreadful Cashbots I had a look through my magic book.”
“Well, I have good news and bad news.”
“Unfortunately, this coin does not contain any magic like Kemical suspected…”
“However, I found that it is actually a chocolate coin!”
“I know it’s not as exciting as magical currency, but everyone loves candy; aren’t I right?”
“I wonder if even the Cog whomst stole it loves candy.”
“Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to get back to brewing my potions. Run along now [Toon Name]!”
To complete the Task, return the Chocolate Coin to Tumbles.
“Hey maaaaaaan! What’d they say, will the coin bring me great luck?”
“It’s… a chocolate coin?”
“Wow, this must be my lucky day!”
“I’m kinda bummed the coin won’t bring me any luck nor grant my wishes, but who doesn’t like candy?”
“Besides, all this photography was making me hungry! I couldn’t have wished for a better treat!”
“However, before I eat this, I should probably give ya something for your troubles.”
“Here’s a picture I snapped of you earlier.”
“You looked like you were doing some cool magic so I just had to take a picture!”
“Be sure to add it to your profile! See ya later, maaaaaaan!”
Oh Tumbles, you’re always such a joy.
Tumbles will now move on to the next Neighborhood next time you leave the Playground.
Additionally, completing this Task earns you 6354 experience, 300 Jellybeans, and the “Casting” Profile Pose.
Next time, we cover the Tasks you can pick up on Wizard Way and Knight Knoll.
See you then.
-
Oh you weren’t kidding about the old timey speak. Oofeth indeed!
Also that’s a mess with the filter issue but I get it.
I also spot that retconned HP reference

🔥 jo
I LOVE JO OH GOD thinking of a hot take will be hard uhh
Cough. I think her and lightning are a bit overrated of a duo.
Don’t get me wrong I think they’re really funny together in the mine episode and they do have some great moments (the “Lightning don’t judge” is peak tdi) but I don’t really care for them nearly as much as I care about her interactions with a lot of other characters.
The two big Jo interactions that get a lot of focus by the fandom are Brick and Jo and Lightning and Jo and to me Brick and Jo are LEAGUES more entertaining than Lightning and jo (maybe because I think brick didn’t really have any other notable interactions cough that’s another hot take for you). I don’t really care for either as a shit but Brock? Jock? Idk what the ship name is makes heaps more sense to me than Joning (? I’ve never heard a ship name for these).
I think Jo typically shines with the mutant maggots a lot more, once again most notably with Brick and Anne Maria, so when they where both planned to be voted off the same episode, it makes a lot of sense why they switched her team with scott, as to have one last bit of Jo and Brick interaction and to properly set up the Jo and Lightning dynamic (that didn’t even really last that long), but ultimately I think her best episodes are Ice Ice Baby and Finders Creepers, both episodes where she mainly interacts with Anne Maria, Brick and Cameron (her three best dynamics; in that exact order but you didn’t hear that from me). Overall she just lacks a lot when moved to the Toxic Rats, as Brick just kind of does his own thing.
I don’t even think lightning is her most interesting dynamic on the toxic rats and I much prefer the potential of a different cross team duo I think should’ve been explored more; Jo and Scott.
Starting right away both already have the common ground of being the seasons antagonists and having that potential to not necessarily make a friendship, but more somewhat of an alliance. I can imagine they’d both have respect somewhat for what the other is doing, with both screwing with their teams but in different ways (scott trying to sabotage his team, and jo trying to lead them to victory) and Jo being the only one to really explicitly know that Scott is doing this without him getting her voted off. I can imagine for the first few times Jo appreciating this as it gives her team, and in result her an easy win, but it would’ve been even more interesting to have somewhat of an internal conflict with her, as while she keeps winning she isn’t really,, earning it? It’s shown multiple times over she’s basically the leader of her team by far pushing everyone around and giving instructions and just being Jo, and she takes pride in this and her ability to lead a team to win, but is she even winning if someone’s on the opposite team sabotaging it all? She probably would also know that if Scott was to get voted, potentially leading her team to loose, she’d easily be a top pick to get voted, only being beaten by Anne Maria if zoey was in a particularly hateful mood that day. Idk I think this would be a fun thing to explore
UH BACK ONTO MY HOT TAKE I GOT CARRIED AWAY. But to use this to expand upon my hot take of Jo and Lightning not being the peak tdi duo, I also think a lot of her interactions and relationships where underused and mishandled. I think her and Anne Maria as well as her and brick PLUS her and Cam was all handled very well, but there’s so much more I wish we’d have gotten. Another I wish we saw more of was Zoey and Jo, as they are two very opposite characters (arguably even more than Jo and Anne Maria), having Zoey being a more girly girl, nerdy, awkward and overall being very kind and a bit of a push over, with Jo being a tomboyish girl, sporty, and a hard headed leader with the strongest back bone known to man, but with these two interacting we could’ve seen some of their flaws the other brings out, as well as some new strengths the other is able to find (maybe having commando zoey be hinted at a bit earlier).
Got really side tracked here and a last minute hot take I guess Jomaria is the best Jo interaction to me, brick and jo is a close second but the lesbians are plaguing my mind
UH TL;DR Jo and Lightning aren’t the best Jo duo not even Top three and I wish that Jo had some new and maybe even better interactions explored with different characters
But overall I don’t actually have that many hot takes with her at all, and the portion of the fandom that sucks don’t really care for her and the strong Jo fans and defenders all seem to characterise her pretty well from what I’ve seen.

me, starting wg3: okay, let’s see how user evansbby proves that i shouldn’t be team steve! let’s see how we get a CRUMB of potential for team ari—
also me, reading the basketball scene: oh 😶 that’s not—
again, me, reading steve’s room scene: GIRL‼️RUN‼️‼️
me, reading ari at the end: you should’ve got hit with the basketball you 🤬🖕🏼🤜🏼💥💀🪦
ok, but in all seriousness, YOU‼️DID‼️THAT‼️‼️ omg i know for SURE you gagged all the team steve girlies 💅🏼 we undecided team baddies won today 😌💪🏼 deserved!!!
but THE PLOT⁉️ she’s PLOTTING 😱 like, thank GAWD you added those questions toward the end cuz like i could NAWT sort my thoughts out at all after reading allat 😭 there was too much going on in here in this day 😫
now, jenneyquinn stans (as if i have any PFFT—), here are my responses to the wg3 questions 😁
as of now, i’m on board with team ari! this is literally a man who clearly can’t come to terms with his own feelings—and although a similar case could be brought up with steve given his severe lack of emotional regulation, i feel like something really messed up must’ve shaken him so bad that the mere thought of ari is just a straight up trigger for him (and i’ll get more on that on my last answer!) back to ari, can we FOCUS on the CRUMB that is when he WAS SO close to slipping!!! HE REALLY WAS ABOUT TO DROP THE L WORD FOR OUR GIRLIEPOP READER 😭 yep, this mans DEFINITELY has it down bad for reader… he just needs a lot of time and comfort with his stubbornly engraved fratboy-fuckboy mindset and just let himself be honest and come to terms with his feelings! he wants y/n!!
okay, now we’re getting into the part where i’m not on team steve! whereas ari tends to be a jerk in public around reader and soft in private, steve is the polar opposite!! i feel like the addition of steve in wg just brings more dimension to college fuckboys, cuz when you think about it, it really narrows down to two types: a) the beast from beauty and the beast and b) hans from frozen (i can’t believe i was able to bring disney into my logic but if it works, so be it!) in summary, steve’s demeanor just switches like night and day cuz when he’s in his own territory, in his room, where he doesn’t have to put on a show for anyone, he can shed the mask and let his true nature show (and mayhaps he doesn’t care whether or not reader has a say in that… for all we know, if kira never intervened, nothing or no one would’ve stopped steve 🚩🚩🚩)
i’m just gonna say that wanda could be a friend… i don’t think she’d be a good one though… i could understand the occasional blindness of being dick-whipped (especially when you’re seeing someone like CURTIS) but even as a college student who just wants to have fun and live in the moment, she could’ve done more for reader :/ in fact, sharon has been a much better friend to y/n despite wanda already given that role! WHO got us ice after the basketball incident⁉️ SHARON‼️ and wasn’t wanda sitting RIGHT BESIDE US??? also, i’m not digging the whole dick-shame wanda gives us when we tell her we hooked up with ari 😒 first off, if YEW🫵🏼 didn’t abandon us at the party, then fed us bull saying you tried to reach out to us, we didn’t need to take an uber with steve!!! lowkey, ari incorrectly addressing wanda by the wrong name is starting to be justified…
NOW that we’ve gotten more clues regarding ari and steve’s history, i came up with this theory: ari and steve were friends in high school, maybe they grew up together and were besties for life? eventually, when college began for kira (my memory’s fuzzy but if i’m right, ari and steve are seniors and reader is a freshman so kira could be in-between, maybe just a year older than y/n), kira chose to go to st. andrew’s instead of st. jude’s (either steve also went to st. andrew’s up until before the events of wg or went to st. jude’s the whole time, i think it could work any way) and steve got ari to promise to take care of kira. again, there are a couple potential scenarios for this! for certain, at any point in time, kira must’ve harboured feelings for ari, but how ari handled that information could either be: a) his time at college turned him into the fuckboy that he is and kira was one of his former side-chicks, b) ari genuinely had feelings for kira too but college turned him into a fuckboy and he lost himself, taking her for granted, or c) it was all a misunderstanding, ari didn’t mean to lead kira on and kira was setting herself up for heartbreak because she was too shy to be communicative with ari 🫢 regardless of each scenario, it ends up with kira being absolutely shattered and heartbroken by the end of her freshman year, steve finds out about this and depending on which college he went to he either a) transferred from st. andrew’s to st. jude’s the following year and kira transfers too (but remains super scarred by her history with ari that she has extreme difficulty allowing herself social interaction again at the risk of further humiliation, hence the remote classes) and steve vows he gets revenge on ari, b) devotes the rest of his time at st. jude’s to besting ari and steve wants his sister’s heartbreak to bite ari in the ass TENFOLD, or c) STEVE BEATS UP ARI, CAUSING HIM TO GET EXPELLED FROM ANDREWS AND LEAVING HIM NO CHOICE BUT TO TRANSFER TO JUDES😶 even though reader is definitely not a stranger to the rogers’ household, i still don’t think it’s enough to vouch that steve wants anything genuine with y/n—like, come AWN, did we not just see that steve had his eyes on her EARLIER from the night of the party⁉️ mans is sus, and i don’t wike it 😒 (additionally, steve is praised at st. jude’s for being the misunderstood hero that was looking out for his sister, furthering ari’s rep of being this cocky st. andrew’s fuckboy—either ari is actually self-aware and is scared to shoo away reader for good if got her hands on the whole story, or he’s actually unsure of the events himself and genuinely can’t give her a sound story on the hatred between him and steve)
anywaysss, that’s all i gotta say on wg3! apologies for the extensive use of emojis this time, my mind was going la di da di da and i needed to say EVERYTHING that was on my mind!!! i could NAWT leave anything unspoken🗣️🔊
xoxo 🫶🏼 anon (jenneyquinn)
AHHHH omg bestie jenneyquinn thank you for this amazing review like I literally teared up a bit, it’s always exciting to hear from you and know your thoughts!!! (also excuse my lack of emojis bc I had to get on my laptop to answer this!!!) ps: I’m sure you DO have jenneyquinn stans!! Definitely me for one, bc you’re such a staple bestie of this blog!! <3 <3
You’re so right, bestie – Ari for the life of himself cannot come to terms with his own feelings! He’s just so hell bent on being this macho fuckboy that isn’t affected by an girl ever and that’s why he felt the need to stay with Sharon! I know a lot of people are like “WHYYYY is he with Sharon there must be an underlying reason” but I’ve addressed this before and literally NOPE. He is still with Sharon (or was… depending on if he’s telling the truth that he broke up with her) anyways, he still is/was with Sharon bc he is a fuckboy and he can be! Simple as that. But anyways yes, Ari was so close to slipping!!! AHHH I FOUND IT SO CUTE N FUN TO WRITE THAT PART HEHE. But yeah, you /get/ Ari and his stubborn fratboy mindset which I love!
I love these comparisons to Disney hehe. And truly, I believe this chapter showed us that fuckboys come in different types lmao. But hmm, I find the theory of Steve showing “his true colours” in his bedroom interesting… Were those really his true colours or was he distracted by something that led to a mood change? What exactly is the true Steve? Is charming and nice Steve not also the true Steve? Bc I feel like he can be both! If that makes sense lol.
Agree with everything hehehe I wonder if WG 4 will be Wanda’s redemption arc or if she’s just gonna get worse…
INTERESTING THEORIES BESTIE! Ones that I cannot confirm nor deny… Although I will say that Steve never went to St. Andrews’ lol… he was always at St. Jude’s from day one.
ANYWAYSSS, bestie thank you for this insanely detailed and amazing review!! You are truly so so so appreciated!! And I am so happy you enjoyed the new chapter! Love you sm bestie and I will also say that I read your other ask, and it got buried and I didn’t get time to answer it but oh bestie I can totally understand that you were in a not so great place but you’re doing better now! And I hope you’re doing even better gradually as the days go by! Love you a million xx

if you would’ve told me on october 27th at 11:05pm not to swipe right on eric, i would’ve thought you were crazy.
but now, 9 months later, i think someone should’ve told me no. “no maria, don’t swipe right on him.” would’ve saved me a lot of heartbreak.
i hate to admit that i did fall for that man. i hate that i made him a birthday card from scratch. i hate that i bought him a souvenir from san diego. i hate that i told my mom about him. i hate that i fell for all the sweet words and gestures. he made me feel so special. he made me feel so loved.
we explored new restaurants every week and we went to museums and walked around the city. we would get cookie connect and talk in the car whilst simultaneously scrolling on our for your pages. he would ask for a fit pic every time i went out. he showed interest in mexico and spanish music because of me. he wanted to meet my mom and cats. he talked about us in the future. sometimes i’d catch him at dinner just staring at me with googly eyes and holding his face up in between his hands. we would share water from his black, sticker filled hydro flask. he bought me flowers on valentines day and surprised me last minute with a dinner reservation. he showed me the waiting area for nj transit in penn station that i always assumed was just for amtrak. he would walk me to my track every time it was announced and would take the later train home so he could make sure i made it home first. he would kiss me goodbye so passionately every time and in front of everyone in penn station. he’d text me something cute almost immediately after saying goodbye too. he made me fall hard. he made me feel so secure. he felt so safe.
at first i didn’t think i was deserving of all this since i had just gotten out of my relationship with charles. i felt like i was moving on too fast. i also didn’t know why this man showed so much interest in me.
but of course he showed interest in me. ITS ME. im maria. im a fucking firecracker. im the fireworks finale—beautiful and grand. im exciting and funny! im understanding and i have a huge heart. im spontaneous sometimes but also such a virgo. this can make me unpredictable in the best way possible. im passionate. im always well dressed—always been a fashion girlie! im everything and more.
and because of these things, i can’t help and wonder why people do wrong by me? why did eric do wrong by me? i thought he really liked me.
we were seeing where things were going. he started going through some tough times and i was there for him. i was understanding of his quiet phases and the waves of sadness. i cared. why did he stop telling me things? why didn’t he tell me he was going away today? why did i have to find out this way?
i thought he cared about me. i thought he really liked me. i thought that for once in my life, someone took me seriously.
silly me. foolish girl.

Late Nights (The Outer Banks: Rafe Cameron)
Tumblr media
This song just gives giant Rafe Cameron enemies to lovers vibes! Also, Holy shit, this is my longest work ever! I hope you guys enjoy reading it as much I enjoyed writing it!
This takes place season 1, before Rafe kills Peterkin. Let’s just pretend he’s not a psychopath. He’s still the resident bad boy of Figure 8, but not a killer…
summary: female reader (she/her) x Rafe Cameron When Y/N finds herself abandoned by her friends at a house party thrown by no other than Kook King, Topper Thornton, she finds odd company in the form of her classmates and neighbors that she has taken very little liking to. She is surprised to learn that her disinterest in all things “kook-related” has sparked the interest of a particular kook. tw: mention of alcohol/drug consumption, slight smut (18+) word count: 4.1k
Y/N might’ve been a kook, but if it wasn’t for her consistent attendance to Figure Eight events you wouldn’t have known. She hated all the superficial bullshit and quickly found herself befriending a certain group of pogues who she would often run into while working on the Cut. Everything in her life had been so easy for her, and although she was grateful, she couldn’t help but feel guilty about the privilege she received while her friends had spent their life fighting for a chance. Being able to find an ally in Kie was all that Y/N had to look forward to as she continued to find a place for herself among the fight between class divisions in her small hometown.
Summer was coming to an end, and with a few weeks left you couldn’t help but just enjoy the moments with your friends. Sitting on the small boat as the sun slowly set, passing the blunt around while you all tried to keep a serious conversation going before blurting out laughing at some stupid shit JJ had said. You had even found an unlikely friend in the form of kook princess, Sarah Cameron. You had known Sarah Cameron for as long as you could remember, always greeting each other’s families at events and having at least one class together every year. But this was different, you had known Sarah but never gave her a chance to hang out. When John B mentioned her a few weeks ago and started to bring her around you and the other pogues were stunned to say the least. You knew that she was dating Topper Thornton, I mean everyone knew that, but what she had with John B was different, at least from what you had seen. “This was great guys, but I promised Topper I would meet him at his party. Keep up appearances, you know?” Sarah said unsurely. Everyone looked around, nodding in understandment, except John B. “I don’t like him,” JJ spoke up, standing up for John B who continued sulking in silence. “Yeah, him and Rafe are always doing some shit,” Pope also spoke up. “You guys have no idea,” Kiara replied while rolling her eyes at the thought of the kook boys she had known so well. You also nodded in response. “Yeah, well I would invite you guys, but I can’t imagine that going over well.” Once again everyone nodded in agreement, except John B. “What if Y/N goes with you,” he suggested. “Thanks for throwing me under the bus!” you exclaimed back at him. Sarah turned to you with a shy smile, “It’s not such a bad idea. I mean you would know almost everyone.” “Yeah, so does Kie, you don’t see her being volunteered to go,” you exclaimed again. “That’s because they actually like you,” Kie replied, smirking when you rolled your eyes at her statement, she was right. “C’mon Y/N it’ll be fun. You’ll have me to hang out with and if you absolutely hate it, we’ll make up an excuse and leave. Besides, it’d be nice to have someone there that I don’t need to be fake with.” You thought for a moment before slowly nodding your head, cursing under your breath as your friends cheered around you. “There’s our little kookie,” JJ stated, jumping away in defense as you attempted to punch his arm.
The bass of the music pounded in your ears as you walked up the driveway. If even possible it got louder once you finally entered the front door, you swore your eardrums were about to rupture. Finding the kitchen, you reached out for two truly’s, your disappointment in the night continuing as feeling they were just room temperature. They weren’t your first choice of alcohol to get through a night like this and seeing as though they weren’t even cold made it worse. You instantly cracked it open, downing as much as you could on the first sip. You handed the other one to Sarah, bumping your open can to her’s in an attempt to say cheers. She laughed at you, “I’m gonna go find Topper. You’ll be okay if I leave you alone for a few minutes?” You took another sip before responding, “Figured this would happen at some point, yeah I’ll be good.” Watching her leave your eyes scanned the kitchen, deciding you needed to loosen up some more you pushed off the counter, “I need something stronger,” you whispered under your breath.
Making your way through the house you scanned the room for unattended bottles you could mooch off. To your surprise you were pulled by the arm, “Omg Y/N, what are you doing here?” a girly high-pitched voice screeched. You turned around, already ready to use your preppy voice, “Hey Claire,” you responded in a mock happy voice matching hers. Claire was sweet, n just not your cup of tea. The two of you had always been civil, sharing a few classes here and there. “Mind if I?” you asked, gesturing to the bottle of Tito’s vodka in her hand. “Oh sure, just be careful. I’ve gotten fucked up with this shit more times than I could remember,” she laughed while handing you the bottle. You lift the bottle up to your lips, the taste on the rim barely making an impact on your tastebuds. But as you thew your head back and lifted the bottle you took one big swig. The alcohol ran down your throat, a warmth following the path it took as it settled in your stomach. “Ugh, Claire, that shit is just straight rubbing alcohol. How the fuck do you drink that?” you exclaimed, handing her the bottle as you wiped the back of your mouth with your hand. She laughed at your reaction, “Believe me, in a little while you won’t even care how it tastes. Just know that you’ll feel it.” You nodded your head while once again scanning your eyes across the room. A few feet away was a coffee table surrounded by teens. Claire noticed your interest and dragged you over. Looking up from the table was Rafe Cameron, Sarah’s brother, who on more than one account you had gotten into a heated argument about your choice of friends. The two of you made eye contact as he wiped the leftover residue from the line of cocaine he had just done. Classy as ever Cameron, you thought as you broke eye contact and examined all the other teens waiting their turn. Rafe greeted Claire with a smirk and half-nod before returning his attention to you. “Awww Y/L/N, get tired of hanging around those boring old pogues, and decided to have some real fun?” he mocked while gesturing to the lines set up in front of him. You scoffed at his suggestion, “Keep dreaming,” you responded. Living in your teenage years and drinking was one thing, but if your parents caught you doing drugs there was a good chance you wouldn’t have much of a life to live. Making eye contact with you he slowly lowered himself closer to the table, quickly doing another line before looking up at you again. Is this kid trying to kill himself? you thought to yourself. You reached out for Claire’s bottle, taking another swig before motioning it up to Rafe. “Always a pleasure Cameron,” you stated before handing Claire her bottle.
Leaving the room, you realized that you hadn’t seen Sarah for a while. Wandering around the house in attempt to find her you bumped into Topper. “Hey Top, seen Sarah anywhere?” you asked. “Uhm a little while ago, she said she went to go find you,” he said quizzingly. “Yeah, right. Just kidding, she went to the bathroom. I’ll go find her,” you quickly spitted out. Nearly running you got away from Topper as fast as you could before finding an empty spot on the wall. Leaning back against the wall, you pulled your phone from your pocket and found a few texts from Sarah and one from John B. “Hey Y/N, John B showed up.” “We just left, please distract Topper.” “I owe you one.” You responded back, “ughh ok, I’m on it.” Clicking on John B’s name you read his message, “sorry kookie, had to steal her. thanks!” You rolled your eyes at the dumb nickname him and the others decided for you, their attempt to always tease you about your kook lifestyle. You sent him the middle finger emoji and a yellow heart before turning your phone off and looking around for Topper. Spotting him talking to Kelce you kept your place on the wall. As long as you could see him and he couldn’t see you, there was no reason to suspect anything about Sarah. Besides, after about half an hour you could probably make a break for the exit, and no one would notice.
As you continued to scroll on your phone you were slightly startled by the presence of another human standing near you. Your eyes looked up to a boy standing in front of you. He was tall, but you couldn’t ignore how young and immature he looked. “Don’t even think about it freshman,” you said before he had the chance. He laughed while nodding his head. “Hey, I had to try. Should’ve known a girl as smart as you wouldn’t give me a chance,” he responded. You gave him a quizzical look as you quickly glanced him up and down. He wasn’t too dumb if he knew to compliment your intelligence over any physical feature. He reached his hand out to shake yours, “I’m Nathan.” You glanced at his hand for a second before reluctantly shaking it “I’m Y/N,” you replied. “I know,” he said a little too quickly making the both of you chuckle. “Mrs. Nichol said you were the captain of the mock trial team. She talked to you the other day about me joining,” he rambled on. You laughed at his apparent nervousness. “Oh yeah, well I guess it’s nice to meet you, Nathan. Not exactly the type of place to bring up extracurriculars,” you laughed while motioning to the number of teens, drugs, and alcohol around you. As you did you could feel the stare from a certain kook, no doubt watching your exchange with the boy in front of you. “Probably not, but it did get you talking to me,” he quirked back. Nodding your head in amusement at his reply you responded, “Touché.” As the volume of the music had apparently increased within the last few seconds of your exchange, Nathan leaned forward slightly so he could hear you better. “Can I get you something to drink?” He asked while leaning down. “I can take it from here,” you heard Rafe speak from behind you as he slid his hand around to the small of your back. Confused by the situation unraveling in front of you, you were quick to speak. “Uhm, actually Cameron, Nathan and I were having a lovely conversation about something you couldn’t possibly be interested in,” you stated attempting to distance yourself away from Rafe and closer to Nathan. “Yeah, I—” Nathan attempted to speak before being interrupted, “Seriously, Miller, beat it or practice on Monday will be hell.” You confusingly looked at Nathan and Rafe before finally understanding. Just like you would be Nathan’s captain, so was Rafe. “Water polo?” you questioned. “Yeah, you’ll catch a game?” he asked in return. “Yeah!” you said sweetly before a mocking scoff turned your attention to Rafe, to which your surprise still had his hand on the small of your back, it almost felt natural that you hadn’t noticed it was still there. Looking at him expectantly he pulled his hands away holding them up in an ‘ok I get it’ way. “Can I help you?” you asked expectantly. “Care to go for a swim?” he asked. You looked at him confused, you weren’t sure if it was your light buzz from your shots of vodka talking but he seemed just as surprised as you were as you answered, “yes!”
As he grabbed your hand, you quietly followed as he led you through the house. “I’m gonna need more alcohol before we do this,” you exclaimed as loud as you could, hoping he would hear you over the volume of the music. He turned to look at you for a moment before turning back and nodding, showing that he had in fact heard your request. Walking through the kitchen he left you at the counter while reaching into one of the cabinets, pulling down a full bottle of Tito’s. He motioned you from your spot and you continued to follow. “My parents got this as a gift for the Thornton’s but it’s not really their style.” You nodded understandingly, Topper’s parents didn’t really seem like the type to be chugging back vodka shots, they were more sophisticated. Following him through the house you were confused as you walked past the sliding glass door that led to the pool and the dozens of other teens who had the same idea you two had, or so you thought. “Where are we going?” you asked. Rafe stayed silent as you continued following him. Opening another set of glass doors, he let you exit first before quickly following. On the side of the house was a hot tub that apparently no one knew about, seeing as though you and Rafe were the only ones out here. “What the hell is this, Cameron?” you asked. He looked at you, confusion evident on his face. “You said we were going swimming. We can’t do that in a hot tub.” He laughed before handing you the now open bottle of Tito’s, watching you take a sip he replied, “What, did you plan on working on your breaststroke or something?” He said jokingly. “No, I actually planned on playing mermaids. Maybe it’s you who needs to work on breaststroke,” you responded wittily. He feigned shock and hurt, taking the bottle from your hand. “My breaststroke is amazing, just ask your friend Claire,” he winked as you scoffed in amusement and disgust. After taking another sip he handed the bottle back to you, removing his clothes he stripped down until he was in his boxers. That left little to the imagination as you could see the outline of his dick printed. Feeling your eyes, he gave you a smirk to which you sheepishly took another sip of vodka, shaking as you felt the liquid burn down your throat. Entering the hot tub, he sat with arms spread out to both his sides, resting on the edge. “Aren’t you going to join me?” he asked. You nodded, feeling your breath catch in your throat. You handed him the bottle, starting to undress as you felt his eyes drawn to your exposed skin where you had begun to lift your shirt. “Hey! Turn around Cameron,” you exclaimed. He put his hands up in defense, turning his head so his attention was drawn to the bubbles and pressure coming from the jets. Folding your shirt and jeans on to the table nearby you turned back around to Rafe examining your exposed body adorning a basic black sports bra and lace thong. You immediately turned red, not knowing how to react under his intense stare. As you entered the hot tub you slipped when placing your foot on the bench to step in, landing you a little closer to Rafe then you planned. He held your arm as you attempted to steady yourself. “You alright?” he asked. You were able to manage out a “mhmm” as you reached for another sip from the bottle. He gladly handed you the bottle, a lazy smile on his face.
You weren’t sure how you always ended up like this but something about being drunk and outside led to you staring at the moon and stars. “What’s going on in that pretty little head of yours?” Rafe asked, breaking the silence. You tried to remain calm with his choice of words, not wanting him to know the effect he was having on you. “Just thinking,” you responded quietly. “About what,” you scanned his face for a second, genuine interest radiating off him. “As niche as it sounds, life…I mean doesn’t this all seem so pathetic,” you stated as you continued to stare off into the sky. “Life?” he asked, laughing to mask his confusion. You chuckled along with him, “No, this…pogues vs. kooks. It’s all so fucking dumb. There are so many more problems out there, so many people who need help and we can’t even come together to help people in our own community.” He just hummed as you continued to ramble on, listening to what you had to say. “I can’t help but just feel guilty. I mean what did I do to deserve this type of life. I mean my parents work hard but they’ve had so many opportunities because of their parents and their parents, and it just keeps going. This sort of generational wealth and success…” you quietly trailed off as you realized who you were talking to. “But I mean you probably don’t care,” you said while looking at him. He shook his head with a smirk. “Now I know why Sarah never shuts up about how smart you are.” You looked at him more intently, “what?” you exclaimed. He nodded his head, before turning his attention to the sky like you had before. “I mean, I guess I just never thought of it that way. Kind of blind to the privilege that I have.” “Must be all the coke,” you mumbled to yourself under your breath. He shot you a warning look before chuckling, “might be the coke,” he responded. You laughed along with him before a serious tone washed over him. “I mean it Y/N, you’re just so attuned to the needs of others,” He exclaimed. “Well, you can be like that too,” you reassured him. “Yeah right, there’s not a lot of hope left for me,” he replied sarcastically. “That’s not true. I mean sure you have your flaws, but from what I’ve seen you’re a good friend, loyal and family is important to you. Those are good qualities, and I mean of course you’re not half bad looking.” He laughed at the last part. “Well, Y/L/N, you’re extremely caring, intelligent, and hot as fuck! So, you have that going for you.” It was your turn to laugh and turn red at his comment.  You weren’t sure if it was the alcohol dulling your senses, but as you looked into Rafe’s eyes you felt yourself being drawn closer. You both leaned in, lips barely brushing each other as your breaths slowed. “Can I kiss you,” he asked. You could barely hear him over the sound of your own heart beating in your chest. “Please,” you nearly whined. Your tone making Rafe swoon as he gently pushed his lips onto yours.
As happy as you were with his gentleness, the alcohol you had consumed throughout the night had made you far hornier than you liked to admit. Leaning deeper into the kiss you gently placed your hands onto his chest before lightly pushing him back to so you could straddle his lap. As you did so, Rafe took a large sip from the bottle, as you looked at him expectantly. He gave you a smirk before bringing the bottle close to your lips, tilting your head back, you let him pour some of the alcohol down your throat. Before you could process the liquid once again burning the back your throat you pressed a heated kiss on to his lips. As your hands moved up from their place on his chest to the back of his neck, playing with the ends of his hair, his hands move from where he was setting the bottle down to trailing around your waist and landing on your ass, holding you in place. As your tongues continued to fight for dominance, he pulled away slightly. Kissing down your jaw and starting to suck on your neck you slightly grinded down on to him while continuing to play with the hairs at the nape of his neck. His hands left your waist, guiding your hips back and forth as you continued to grind on him. As he continued to work on your neck you moaned as he found your sweet spot, “Fuck Rafe,” you exclaimed. You could feel him smirk as he continued. Giving him a break, you leaned forward slightly, changing the angle to which you were grinding down on him and leaving marks over his neck and chest. “Fuck babe,” he stated. “Being so good to me,” he continued as he leaned in for another kiss. “Yes, sir,” you said, testing the waters. You could clearly tell that you were starting to drive Rafe crazy as he moaned into your mouth at your response. Roughly grabbing your hip, he speeded the pace of your grinding. As you continued to litter marks along his chest, he reached a hand up to pull your sports bra down far enough so that your boobs were spilling over the top. The pressure of the band along with the added sensation of Rafe’s mouth on your nipple was almost too much. Along with this you could feel how hard he had gotten under you. I mean, you knew he was big, but this was godly. Your makeout session was quickly abrupted as you both snapped your heads to the sound of the glass doors sliding open. Quickly removing yourself from Rafe’s lap and adjusting your bra, you sat silently, reaching for the bottle again. “What’s up Top?” Rafe asked nonchalantly. Topper looked at you both slyly, clearly knowing what he half-witnessed between the two of you. “Not much, I can’t find Sarah anywhere Y/N. And she’s not answering her fucking calls.” “Yeah, she wasn’t feeling well. Said she headed home; her phone probably died. Don’t worry Top,” you said as convincingly as the alcohol would let you. Topper seemed to accept your answer and reentered the house. Rafe looked at you unconvincingly. “She just left you?” he asks. Avoiding his gaze, you let your hands play with the water. Slowly nodding your head, you responded, “guess so…” “That doesn’t sound like Sarah,” he continued. “Well that’s what happened,” you snapped. Thinking about the conversation you would have to have with Sarah about how you failed to keep Topper distracted and the alcohol finally making its presence in your system known was too much to handle. “Ughh back to reality, I guess,” you groaned out. Rafe pulled you into his side so that his arm was around your shoulder and your head resting on his. “What are you up to now?” he asked. “Figuring how to make it home alive,” you chuckled dryly. He hummed in thought next to you. After a second, he spoke, surprising you in the process, “Stay with me.” “Rafe…” you dragged out unsurely. “Seriously Y/N, that way you don’t have to worry about going home right now.” You looked at him for a second before slowly nodding. Getting out of the hot tub he disappeared for a second before returning with a set of towels. As you both dried yourselves off and gathered your clothes you headed to Topper’s guestroom.
Stumbling around in your drunken state, Rafe grabbed the clothes from your hand. Setting them on a nearby table he turned so that you were facing each other. Reaching down slightly he grabbed your legs from under your thighs so that he was now carrying you. Feeling the warmth of his chest you pressed closer, wrapping your legs around his hips in the process. With each step you slightly bounced against him. The sexual tension from earlier quickly returning. Finally reaching the room Rafe laid down so that you were now on your back while he hovered over you. With your legs around his waist and arms around his neck you gently pulled him in, pecking a sweet kiss on your lips. “I need to shower,” you said shyly. He nodded his head, pulling away slightly so he was standing, and you stayed sprawled out on the bed. “I’ll go get us some water,” he stated as he slowly walked out the room. Leaving the door cracked enough so he wouldn’t bother anyone with the sound of it opening and closing you sat up, finally taking in your surroundings. Getting up and heading to the bathroom you folded your towel, pulling off your bra and underwear as you let the water run until it was hot enough. As you let the water run over your body you stood for a minute, just thinking about everything that had happened that night, you rub your hands down your face, muttering “fuck.” You weren’t sure what was happening, but it was a problem future you would just have to deal with later.

Chapter 1 - More than this
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you find the love of your life, people say you just know. Know that you’ll forever love the way they part their hair. Their style of clothes, their attitude towards life. You’ll fall for everything about them when it comes to love at first sight.
How had things gone so wrong?
You just wanted the stupid perfect future family. Two or three kids, a big house with a wrap around porch, and white picket fencing guardian what should’ve been rightfully yours.
Maybe you had known it all along.
You never felt like he had been truly yours.
Sharing a man you’ve come to love so much,
With millions of others.
It’s hard, yes.
Do you tire of it?
Absolutely.
But what can you do? Waltz into that bastard of a boss’s office of the man you’ve been sleeping with for the past six months, demanding that he takes your love out of his back-breaking career?
It’d crush him.
You’re just …
Stuck.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I wish you would’ve waited for me” She whines, coming to link her arm to yours. “I’m sorry, but I was too hungry” You both laugh, taking a lick of your rolled ice creams. “So, what should we do this weekend?” You shrug, burying your face into your sweet goddess.
“I don’t know. I have a little more work to send into Dr. Berkeley” Your response makes her pout.
“Come on, ____! He’s such an ass anyways, what’s a day’s difference?” she pokes your side, setting you both off into a fit of giggles. To others, you might’ve looked a bit too close. But to you two, it was only friendship. You’d both made that clear at the very beginning.
February 2nd, 2019
“Nice to meet you, ____! My name is Soo-a.” You both exchange handshakes, returning the smiles. “This place all ours?” She sets her things down in your doorway, walking in awe at the high ceilings. “Yep, my old roommate moved in with her fiance. Though, not sure how long that’s gonna last” she chuckles, and hands you a white envelope.
“Thank you for taking me in, _____" You nod, giving her the rest of your tour.
~ ~ ~ ~  ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
“Still, even if he might be the worst person on the EARTH, he still controls my paycheck balance!” She laughs, taking a sip of her milk tea creme boba.
“Yeah, but it’s your birthday! Can’t you just tell him that?” You shake your head. “He’s the hardest one to compensate for”. She smirks, wiggling her eyebrows.
“Hard?” Punching her arm, you both resume your laughter. “Shut up!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Come on girly! We’re gonna be late for cocktail hour!” Soo-ah yells down the stairs, hurrying up your motions. “Almost finished!” You slip on the knee high boots, adjusting the hem of your dress to not be too flashy. Your eyes pause on the little dinky piece of jewelry your ex had gotten you for your anniversary last year.
“Why can’t you just believe me, ____??” The glass shattering brings back the recently observed memories of what your asshole of a boyfriend had been doing in the club that night.
“Believe you!? Why should I when you literally have lipstick and hickey marks on you!?” He  huffs, following you around the apartment, trying to stop your motions from throwing his shit out of the balcony window.
 “HEY! We’re on the 37th floor, you bitch!” He raises his hand, before you know it, you're on the floor with bruises and cuts all over your shaking body.
The rain poured down almost as hard as your tears. Silent cries are heard through the whole apartment when he left much later after his anger-releasing session, which you had been unfortunately on the receiving end of. That night, he’d taken something from you much more than happiness.
Your love.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That’s how you ended up here. Sleeping with every person known to man. Being gone in the morning with nothing but a trail of self-deprivation and an even larger hate for yourself. Anything but the hurt from love you remembered. Never the same person, too much of  a risk for falling.
Again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Which one are you thinking, ____?” Soo-ah’s sweet voice pulls you out of your thoughts.
“Huh?” She giggles, setting the teal blue button up sheer shirt down on the rack once more.
“Earth to ___?. Where’d you run off this time, Dorothy?~” Your cheeks redden from the nickname.
“Shushhh” You press a finger to her lips, you both laugh at the scene.
“Why are we even here? Is your closet AND my closet not good enough?” She chuckles, walking hand-in-hand with yours. The action wasn’t new. You’ve been friends for almost 5 years. Sleeping in the same bed sometimes, even. She’s been your rock, the only one you can really open up to. She’s an amazing listener. She sat with you for 3 days in your bay window, silently letting you cry on her shoulder after your bad breakup. Bringing you everything from ice cream, to your laptop to curl up and watch stupid people in stupid love.
How stupid.
“I knowww, but we’re going to the club again tonight! I can’t be seen in the same outfit! What would people think of me??” you laugh, nodding at her.
“Okay okay, just hurry up. I still need to send in that report for Dr. Berkeley.” She nods, acting like a kid in a candy store.
“No promises, babes!” She peaks her head out from behind the curtain once, before retreating to try on more clothes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With each of the man’s thrust, you’re pushed further into a pit of boredom. Getting lost in all the chores you have to do, once you get back to your apartment. Soo-ah had already picked a guy up at the bar, not even five minutes into arriving. So, looks like it's just you for dinner once again.
“I told you the blue works~” she teases, whispering as she gets led away from the crowd, and you.
“Fucking hell, Yes, GOD YES!”
You thought it'd be a good idea to scope out a guy of your own to release your stress. Though, it hadn’t gone the way you planned. He’d immediately pulled you into the bathroom stalls, already stripping you of your cute black skirt.
At least finger me, bastard. You thought.
“S-shit! I’m gonna cum!” He moans, two more wear slaps to your ass applied.
You’re just waiting for him and his shrimpy dick to hurry up and finish. Maybe you could stop by and get some fried chicken on the way home? If this fucker would hurry up already.
“F-fucking yES!!-”  He sounds like a screaming banshee. How’d you find him attractive before the 5 tequila shots you had downed? You didn’t. No amount of alcohol in the world would make this boy attractive to you. Period.
Beads of hot cum drip down your thighs, as his thrusts start to subside. His sweaty body leaning forward for support against your own. You immediately move out from under him, quickly fixing yourself and making your way out of that sex-filled place.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your mind is still racing with thoughts on food. Chicken? Naengmyeon? Should you order some chinese food instead? Maybe you can even get some of those crab rangoo-
“Oh shit! I’m sorry-” The cold liquid drips down your white blouse, soaking and staining the material quickly.
“Fucking- ..Damn it!” You groan, grabbing napkins out of the man’s grip, wiping yourself off.
“I’m so sorry- I didn’t see you there” You look up, eyes met with a dark haired man, with an alluring aura. His brown eyes pull you in like the kid dipping his whole hand into the chocolate stream in willy-wonka and the Chocolate factory. His white undershirt slightly unbuttoned, revealing a sliver of his tanned collarbone.
“I..it’s okay-” You reply, still studying his frame. A little taller than your own, with muscles threatening to break his suit. The charcoal grey black suit he’d been sporting.
“No, I should’ve been looking where I was going-” he shakes his head, denying your excuse.
“No, it’s my fault, darling. My contacts had been messing with me.” offering some more napkins stolen from the bar side. “Fucking blind eyes..” he mumbles, trying to help you wipe off the liquid, before quickly releasing that he’d been overstepping, You chuckle at his cuteness. How can someone be so hot … be so adorable?
“No really, it’s fine. I never liked this stupid thing anyways” his shoulders relax a bit, now knowing that you won’t be suing him.
“Still,”
His frame takes up much more space than you’d thought.
“I’d like to make it up to you..” He whispers against the shell of your ear, the room sounding a lot less deep. You look up, returning the same look in his eyes. He pulls you closer to his figure, pressed up against each other’s bodies now.
“Your place or mine?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
His apartment hadn’t been what you were expecting. Same figures dance still-like on his top shelves, Some of animes you’d never heard of nor seen, and some just pictures of him with (what you’re guessing) is his friends.
“Can I get you something to drink?” He walks in, a glass of water in hand.
“No thank you.” Your arms folded across your chest, examining the detailed and very minimally decorated apartment. A dark gray comforter, one that almost matches the shade of his suit, lays across one of the beds. Two beds?
“Do you live alone?” You ask, joining him on what you’re guessing is his bed.
“No. I live with my roommate, Jimin. But he’s out with his family right now so..” The look in his eyes tells you anything and everything you might ask.
“So.. no water?” You shake your head. Leaning in, closing the gap between you both. He doesn’t hesitate, meeting your lips in the middle. A hand comes trailing up your cheek, while the other guides you to crawl onto his lap. You obliged, sitting yourself against his taut frame. Your hips grind down to meet his own, hand coming to wrap around your head, gripping your locks firmly. He gives a slight tug, testing the waters.
“Fuck-” you moan against his lips, pushing him backwards onto his bed. You both barely make a dent, ironically. His kisses are passionate to say the least. Fighting with the only weapon a rapper knows how to use.
Tongue.
“Off.” He tugs on your shirt, the message sinking in quickly. You raise your alcohol stained shirt over your head, throwing it somewhere across the room. Your hand travels down his chiseled frame, resting atop his hardening clothed cock. Your palms press lightly against the fabric, teasing him. He throws his head back, pushing against the sheets, moans heaving from his chest.
“F-fuck baby please- don’t tease” You giggle, unzipping the fancy fabric, Shimming your way down his torso, you place your hands on his thighs, eye-level with his crotch.
He sits up, putting his weight on his elbows to watch your moves. You pull his trousers down his thick thighs, just enough to free his throbbing cock.
“Holy shit..” He curses, you giving kitten-like licks up and down his shaft. He moves a free hand back to his original position on your head, firmly gripping brunches of your hair at the root.
Spitting in the palm of your hand, you wrap your hand around his dick, motioning it up and down, pressing butterfly-like kisses to the tip, allowing more pre-cum to spill out the slit. You wrap your lips around the top, before taking in a big breath through your nose, loosening your jaw. The rest, wrapped in your hand perfectly, moving with the rhythm of your bobbing. It had been a while since you'd sucked some actual dick. The random guys you'd slept with had just shoved it in like an impatient kid wanting the stupid gumball machine toy.
“F-fucking sh-shit!” He stop your motions, holding you above his dick pausing the session. “Did I do something wrong?” He shakes his head.
“I..I forgot to ask your name..”
You smirk, wiggling your way out of his grip to continue your motions. You look up through your eyelashes, a glassy look spreads across your gaze.
“Call me mommy”.

HERE WE GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO [HEAVY METAL SCREAM] AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
rating: G/PG warnings: none really lotta swearing tho words: 2,404 pairing: Billy Hargrove x Eddie Munson
no Ao3 link atm bc i'm lazy and this is just SO bespoke. i genuinely don't know what i wanna do with all the stranger things/buffy the vampire slayer crossover stuff in my head djksdfgdfs. i'll make a post for the ao3 link if i ever make one.
NOTE: this is a TRANSGIRL!BILLY EXPERIENCE! slayer lore is a "girls only" thing which, when you expand that past late 90s mainstream acceptable progressivism i've always interrupted as people who have a female spirit/vibe/essence/whatever the fuck. basically not bio-femaleness but idk like gender vibes. (i'll also say i'm nonbinary myself and the blood i sweat over this gordian knot is ridiculous and this is what i have thus far so we're running with it)
it's also my first time writing a transwoman character so i hope i did right by the girlies. lemme know if anything should be edited!

Billie should’ve slayed Eddie years ago. He was basically the one smudge on her otherwise perfect slayer record. She couldn’t find it in her to do it thought no matter how much she tried. Sure they’d gone at each other a few times, a murder attempt here or there from either side but honestly none of it was all that serious. Their fights always seemed to fall apart though by the end so at this point they just didn’t bother with it really.
If she was being honest there was more to it then just that. For a dead guy Eddie was full of life, bright and charming and just so excited about things. Billie spend so much of her life hunting things down, being hunted, beating the shit out of things, getting the shit kicked out of her, killing things and trying not to get killed back herself. It was dark and lonely most of the time, even if she’d never trade it back for her old life it didn’t mean she didn’t wish she had more in her life than death. And while she’d never admit it to a soul, Eddie made her feel alive.
The majority of vampires seemed stuck in time but while Eddie’s style hadn’t changed much since the 70s, he was different. He was handsome with big brow doe eyes, lean bodied with a wavy brown shag he hadn’t changed in like, 20 years, but still looked really good on him. But he was dynamic in a way the others weren’t. His look wasn’t stagnation, it was preference. Billie had always liked how his hands where bigger than hers, even if it was just by a little. He’d somehow talked her into letting him give her some guitar lessons (yes dumb idea vampire near neck, she knew this. We’ve already established the Eddie weak spot here though) and she couldn’t stop coming back to how long and pretty his hands were, how they covered hers nicely when he helped her work out all the strings and movements.
Eddie had a band — of course — and it was a actually pretty good. It was kind of a shame Eddie’d been turned, he was really talented, if he’d lived he could’ve really gotten famous. Now that he was a vampire though he was pretty much regulated to the small stages only, though he was actually pretty big on the supernatural music scene. Much to her chagrin Billie was starting to feel like a groupie. She tried to catch as many of his shows as she could for years now. And yes, okay — she was a little starstruck. Eddie had seen all her favorite bands in concert when they were making some of her favorite albums, he’d jammed with Metallica when they were hot off Kill ‘Em All. They liked all the same music and Billie lived for music. Eddie was, frankly, kind of a real rockstar in the demon world, like their best kept secret from the humans when it came to rock. Watching Eddie play was electrifying. He was gorgeous and powerful on stage, totally in his element. She didn’t get why he was still hanging out on the Hellmouth, LA was only two hours away, he’d do so much better there.
They were doing a cover of “Am I Evil” by Diamond Head and Eddie was practically crooning it at her where she sat at the bar. She blushed in spite of herself. He was such a little shit, always pulling shit like this with her. She stayed in her seat and she didn’t look away however, that’d be admitting he’d won which was so never going to happen. She stayed their whole set and left when they packed up to go do her patrols. Just like always. And just like always somehow Eddie found her no matter where she was.
She was in Restfield Cemetery doing a clean up of any newly risen vampires when he sauntered out from behind a mausoleum his hands in the pockets of his leather jacket grinning his stupid adorable grin.
“Hey baby. How’s the day in the office so far?”
Billie rolled her eyes. “Slow and boring. It’s been nothing but fledges so far and not even a lot of them.”
“Well hey, I’m here now. Can’t do much about the lack of villainous lambs to slaughter but I can fix the boredom part.”
Billie rolled her eyes. “Right so I can be annoyed and not get anything done all at the same time.”
“Oh baby, don’t be like that.” He cooed, coming to place his hands on Billie’s hips. She was only a little taller than Eddie in her heels. “C’mon. What can I do to turn my best girl’s frown upside down huh?”
Billie blushed again and looked down, the hand not holding her stake fiddling with his beat up leather jacket. Her heart always skipped a beat when he called her things like “baby” and “best girl” and they both knew it.
“Nothing. I just wanna finish my stupid fucking patrol report back that there’s nothing going on in this shithole town and go bed.”
“Nah not buying it. I think I know what’ll make my babygirl smile again.” His breath was cool against her cheek as he nuzzled her. “How about a private concert huh? We finish up staking my distant relatives or whatever, head back to your place and I play some of your faves. I’ll take requests and everything.”
Fuck, he really had her now. Eddie was always buttering her up but he was really laying it on thick to night. He probably wanted something then and knowing her, she’d probably end up giving it to him if it wasn’t totally insane.
She nodded and Eddie grinned even wider against her cheek before kissing the corner of her mouth sweetly.
“There’s my girl, so sweet for me. Now lemme see how ya tear em apart huh?”
Patrolling with Eddie was always more fun than patrolling alone. They flowed well together in a fight and when there was nothing to do he was a great conversation partner. They always walked together so close their arms would brush as they went. Some nights Eddie would catch her hand and hold it, winking at her every time he did. She let him, because she was a weak bitch who lost her shit over holding hands with her vampire crush who she should be staking. With Eddie there the boring drag of patrol just flew by and they were heading back to her’s for the night in no time.
They still called it her place but Eddie had an invite and somehow over the few years they’d been getting closer all of his things had ended up in her apartment. They slept in the same fucking bed now for fucks sake. Somehow Eddie had weaved himself into her life so completely she couldn’t pull the edges apart anymore. She knew the Council wouldn’t approve if she was still living under their thumb, Hopper barely tolerated it as it was. Sure, she was the Slayer but she was a 20 year old girl too. A girl who wanted a life, and to love and be loved. She was still scared to admit it out loud, afraid if she did he’d vanish like everything else that’d been good her life, but she loved Eddie. She loved him so much. And the things he did and said— it was getting harder to convince herself that he didn’t feel the same. Not when he proved it every day.
So what if he was a vampire. Was it so wrong for her to want this? Was there ever going to be a normal guy who could even understand, let alone keep up, with her? Why should she hold out on the off chance that guy did exist somewhere in the world when she had this loving man right here, now?
Ever the gentleman Eddie opened the door for her, his hand resting on her lower back as he ushered her inside. They both went to the kitchen where Billie pulled out leftovers for her and a blood bag for Eddie while he got a mug out for microwaving his blood. They waited around together for their food to be warmed up, Eddie wrapping her in his arms and swaying them as he hummed. Dinner was always a pretty lazy affair and they scarfed their food down at the counter before unceremoniously dumping their dishes in the sink to be tomorrow’s problem. Finally they both got ready for bed, Billie getting out of her very cute halter and into a soft pink pajama set and Eddie stripped down to his boxers. He laid his warlock down next to her on the bed but before he set it up for their private concert he maneuvered her to the edge of the bed and knelt between her legs.
His hands were cool on her thighs has he rubbed little circles with his thumbs into her skin.
“Baby there’s something I’ve been wanting to ask you for a while now.”
Fear gripped her immediately, the self doubt she still couldn’t shake rearing its ugly head. Did he want to break up? Did he want something she couldn’t give? To do something she couldn’t do? Had this all been a lie to get her so blind and stupid she’d help him do something awful?
Eddie kept rubbing in those little circles, his eyes were warm and gentle. Full of love. She took the leap and went with trusting him.
She licked her lips, her voice only cracked a little. “Yeah Eds?”
“Move to LA with me.”
She stared at him stunned for a long moment, totally thrown for a loop. Never in her life would she have thought this is what he’d want to talk about. Slowly she collected herself.
“But, Eddie I can’t leave the Hellmouth. It’s my job.”
“There’s the new girl here now and she’s been doing great. You’re not chained here and it’s LA, we’re only 2 hours away. If they need us we can be there in no time.”
Jane was doing well, especially with the help of her little gaggle of loser friends and Hopper keeping an eye on her. But she was only 15, she was a kid. How could Billie leave this whole place to a kid? A voice in her head pointed out she’d been about that age when she’d become the Slayer and she’d been basically totally solo through most of her tenure here. Jane had a group of friends to help and a Watcher who took good care of her. She was infinitely better off than Billie had been at that age.
Still she couldn’t just leave.
“I can’t just leave it all on her, it’s my sacred duty or whatever to—“
“Baby,” He broke in, his voice and expression sterner than she’d ever seen. “You’ve already died once. “
Automatically her hand came to the scar on her chest and she rubbed it absently. They only had Jane because Billie had died. There was only ever one Slayer, as like, a semi-reincarnated chosen one thing. One died and the next was called. But Billie had been revived in the hospital so now there were two.
Eddie continued. “I’m not saying you stop slaying. I don’t think you can ever really stop being a Slayer just like I can’t stop being a vampire. But I don’t wanna see an encore of that shit. Ever. Once was enough. I’m not gonna let you get stuck living a small life in a small town because of some ancient prophecy shit anymore just so that prophecy shit can snuff you out before you got a chance to live. You deserve more. Sunnydale was only ever supposed to be a pitstop for the band but I convinced the guys to stay because I loved you the moment I saw you and I wasn’t leaving here without you. The guys are starting to really chafe now, the music scene here is only half decent cause it’s a Hellmouth and 2 hours down to LA for club gigs is getting to be a pain in the ass. They wanna move to where the action is and I think it’s time for all of us— you included— to make the leap. I held off on talking about this until we could make sure that Jane’ll be alright so you could leave with a clean conscience and she’s gonna be as fine as any Slayer can be. Baby, I love you. It’s okay to move on with your life. You’re a grown woman and you deserve to be somewhere with more opportunities for your future. Steve’s already down there and you always talk about how you miss him. Wouldn’t you rather be living closer to your best friend then stuck hanging around with teeny boppers?”
Billie’s eyes were hot with unspent tears. He was right. She missed Steve. He’d been her only friend since she’d blown into Sunnydale and he’d moved down to LA to get work and try to get into culinary school after graduation and his parents losing everything because of tax evasion. She loved Eddie but she still felt lonely without her best friend. And she did want to do more with her life, even if it was just party and be somewhere that couldn’t be easily walked in a few hours again. She missed living in a real city like San Diego. She hated the idea she’d been holding Eddie back but she also couldn’t stop crying because she was so happy he’d stayed. No one ever stayed. But Eddie’d taken one look at her and dropped everything just so he could be with her. God he was too good for her.
Still crying she nodded, trying to smile. God she was glad he’d waited until she’d taken her makeup off.
“Okay Eddie. You’re right, let’s move.”
Eddie beamed and kissed her, wrapping an arm around her waist and helping her to dry her tears with the other.
“Love you baby.”
For once, she felt brave. “ I love you too Eddie.”
If it was possible he beamed even harder and kissed her again soundly before setting up with the warlock bedside her on the bed.
“Okay! We’re celebrating! Any requests from my lady love?”

Komaeda yawned as he turned around the bed, his face facing yours. He stared at you with a small smile. “Good morning my hope..” He murmured, giving you a kiss before snuggling you.
You gave a small groan before hugging him a bit tighter. You slowly gained consciousness and opened your eyes. “Good mornin’ Nagito..” You greeted, your tone slightly in a whisper. “Had a good night's sleep?” You asked. You felt him nod as he backed away a bit. “How about you?”
“It’s always a good night when I’m with you.” You answered. Komaeda chuckled before trying to sit up, but failed when you pulled him down to you. “Come on, we got to eat with the others.” He tried to reason, but not resisting your hug.
“Let them.. I don’t care.”
So you and Komaeda stayed like that for a few minutes. When the morning announcement came, you both ignored it and continued to stay in you and Komaeda’s comfort zones.
You were almost drifting to sleep with Komaeda again when...
“Hey Lovebirds! Wake up! The morning announcement was announced a few minutes ago! Get your butts out of the beds and let’s eat!” A male voice shouted from the other side of the door.
“Don’t shout at them Kazuichi! They might be sleeping.” A female voice whisper-yelled at Kazuichi. “Sorry..”
One of the two knocked on the door and the female said “Y/n? Komaeda? Are you there? We’re going to eat and we’d like you two to join.”
“Maybe they-”
“Alright! Alright.. We’re up. We’ll join soon.” You answered.
“Great! We’ll see you both in the restaurant!” The female voice chirped before leaving with Kazuichi.
Komaeda stood up and walked to the closet, and began changing. His back facing you. You looked away for a minute before looking back. He was changing his shirt, now shirtless. You grinned and walked towards Komaeda.
Komaeda heard shuffling from the bed, telling him you're either standing up or just still sleepy. You wrapped your arms around Komaeda and kissed his neck. Komaeda let out a giggle as you continued to kiss his neck playfully.
Soon after, you finally stopped and unwrapped your arms around him, letting him continue to change.
Once he was finally done, you changed your clothes and began walking with Komaeda. Hands intertwined.
You both arrived in the restaurant and were met with Koizumi. “Good morning Y/n! Komaeda! Why were you two late again? Didn’t Byakuya tell you to never be late?” Koizumi greeted as she sat on a chair, you and Komaeda right across her.
“I wanted to sleep in.. Anyways, where are the others?”
“Them? Oh, they left a few minutes ago. After they ate, they just left. Well, Byakuya told me to wait for you guys and tell you not to-”
As you and Koizumi talked, Komaeda slowly ate his food, lovingly staring at you. Seeing as you smile and make cute faces that Komaeda adores so much.
After eating, You, Komaeda, and Koizumi bid goodbyes as Koizumi separated from you and Komaeda, telling you that “I promised that I’d hang out with Hiyoko for the day. See you guys later!”
☽✧ ✦ ✧☾
You and Komaeda were walking through the beach when you saw a frisbee coming Komaeda’s way. Out of instinct, you pushed Komaeda out of the way. The frisbee avoided Komaeda but hit your arm.
You hissed in pain and held the part of the arm that hurted. Once the pain lessened, you checked the arm to see that nothing bad happened.
Two people, mainly Akane and Nekumaru, ran towards you. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry- uhh.. Woman.?” Akane apologized, forgetting your name. “It’s Y/n..” You deadpanned, temporarily forgetting the pain. Komaeda walked to the frisbee and took it then gave it to Nekumaru, thanking him in return.
“ARE YOU ALRIGHT?” Nekomaru asked loudly, making you slightly flinch at the volume. “I’m alright, I’m alright.” You answered. “WE’RE VERY SORRY WE-”
You interrupted him and exclaimed “It’s fine! Don’t worry. It’s nothing I can’t handle.” You glanced at Komaeda, seeing him next to you, looking at you in worry. “Aight then.. See ya later girly and white haired dude! Sorry!” Akane said before running off, with Nekomaru following behind.
Komaeda gently held the arm that was hit with a frisbee and blamed himself. “Ah I’m so sorry Y/n! My luck’s getting worse. It’s my fault you got hurt. I should’ve gotten hit.”
You took your arm out of Komaeda’s hands and cupped his face. You and Komaeda stared at each other before kissing for a short while. “Komaeda. Don’t blame yourself. Please.”
You pecked his lips again. “Are you hurt?” You asked him. “But I should be the one-”
“Are you hurt, Nagito?” You asked again. He shook his head ‘no’ and you smiled. “Good. I took the hit for you just to protect you Nagito. You almost got hit with a frisbee. I wouldn’t want something bad for you to happen. I don’t want you to get hurt.”
Komaeda was silent. He couldn’t open his mouth, but even if he did, Komaeda couldn’t find the words he wanted to tell you. So instead, he hugged you. You hugged back, giving him a little squeeze. “Let’s go back to the dorms and cuddle, yea?”
Komaeda hummed in agreement then yelped as you carried him bridal style to the dorms. Worried, Komaeda asked you if he’s heavy and to put him down if so. “Your light as a feather. Nagito. Don’t worry.”
As you sped up the pace making you jog with you holding Komaeda bridal style. Komaeda looked at you worryingly, so you slowed down a bit to his preferred speed. You and Komaeda laughed happily since you both were having fun.
☽✧ ✦ ✧☾
You gently placed Komaeda down on the bed with you lying beside him. As you were spooning him (You were the big spoon while he was the small spoon), he began to move a bit then held your hand that was near him then gave it a small kiss.
☽✧ ✦ ✧☾
You were in your room with Komaeda hugging you from the side as you two were talking to one another. Out of the blue, your stomach growled. Komaeda chuckled as you looked away sheepishly with a blush on your face.
“Are you hungry, Angel? Do you want me to buy some snacks for you?” You nodded embarrassed. Komaeda chuckled again and gave you a kiss on the forehead. “No need to be embarrassed, Y/n. I’m just going to buy food for you.” He said while he sat up from the bed, looking at you.
“Can I come with you?” You asked, hoping you would join.
He shook his head ‘no’ to your dismay. “It’s alright, my hope. I can do this by myself. I don’t want to tire you. You seem tired.” You pouted, a bit disappointed. Komaeda reassured you that he’ll be fine, so you finally agreed. You stopped pouting then rolled over the bed.
“Would you want me to buy your favorite snacks and drink?” Komaeda asked as he was walking towards the door. “Yes please.”
“Alright.. I’ll be back soon, Love.” Komaeda bid goodbye before leaving you all alone in the room.
☽✧ ✦ ✧☾
You waited for what felt like hours. You kept turning left and right on the bed bored. No one to talk to. Nothing to entertain you. ‘I guess a small nap wouldn’t hurt..’ You thought before slowly drifting off to sleep.
Or that’s what you thought.
You opened your eyes in frustration that you couldn’t sleep either. “Great... Now I can’t sleep. And I'm bored!” You shouted. You slightly jumped when you heard a drop from the roof.
Soon after, more and more rain drops started to fall down and you immediately knew it was raining. You stood up and walked towards the door, opening it and stepping outside the room. The rain was heard louder. You sat on the room floor, and your legs outside. You bring your legs closer to your chest and wrapped your arms around it. Resting your head on your knee, you watched the rain falling from the sky as you waited for Komaeda worryingly.
“Y/n?” You heard faintly. You thought it was your imagination and ignored it. But you heard it again but more clearly. “Y/n!” ‘Komaeda?’ You murmured as you looked around your surroundings confused.
You stared at a figure that was slowly growing in your vision. The more you stared at the figure, the more you recognized the figure as Komaeda. In panic, you immediately went inside the room and found (Coincidentally) an umbrella. You went outside, opened the umbrella, and ran towards Komaeda.
“Nagito! You’re soaked! Hurry, let’s go inside.” You quickly dragged Komaeda inside the room in panic. You made him sit on your bed, not caring if it got wet, and gave him clothes to wear. You looked away and found a blanket while he changed.
Once he was done, you gave him the blanket, which he gratefully took, and wrapped it around himself. While you were placing the wet clothes somewhere, Komaeda said. “Why are you protective? I don’t mind but I don’t deserve it.”
“I don’t want you to get hurt, Nagito. I wouldn’t want you to just.. I love you alright? You worry me sometimes.”
Komaeda softly smiled. He started to stand up but you stopped him before he did. “Sit down. I’ll take care of you.” You took a bath towel and began drying his hair with it. “I love you too, Y/n.”
Your heart fluttered. ‘You’ll be the death of me if you continue being cute! Not like I hate it though...’ You smiled. “Oh. I almost forgot. Here.” Komaeda moved and grabbed a bag and gave it to you. You took it and opened the bag. Inside contained your favorite snacks and drinks.
Your smile widened as you tackled Komaeda to the floor. “Thank you!” You began kissing all over his face. He smiled as he relished the moment. Every time he was near you, he felt bad. He felt like he was inferior. But every time you show your affection, his worries always goes away. He felt safe with you.
Your moment was immediately interrupted when Komaeda sneezed. You gasped, carrying Komaeda to the bed. You went around the room to get anything you needed for Komaeda, medicine, water, etc. Then gave it to Komaeda.
“You could’ve hid under a roof and waited there till the rain ended y’know?” You told him. Komaeda looked at you and smiled. “I know. But I was near here. You saw me remember? Plus, I didn’t want you to starve.”
You looked at him lovingly then gave him a short but passionate kiss, to his dismay and relief.
“Thank you. Love.”
☽✧ ✦ ✧☾
Bonus:
[Warnings: Komaeda getting tied up by Kazuichi and Nekumaru(This is before the killing game starts- just saying.), mentions of bruises, ]
You were walking around the island without Komaeda. You wanted to hang out with Komaeda but he wasn’t in his dorm. “Where could he be?” You murmured, slightly confused and worried. Is he alright?
You saw Kazuichi walking from the Rocketpunch market with a rope in hand. “Kazuichi!” You called, hoping that he knew where Komaeda was. Kazuichi jumped at someone calling him, clearly surprised. When he noticed you, he immediately put the rope behind his back. “O-oh hey Y/n! Didn’t see you there. Heh. Oh hey, Where’s Komaeda?”
“That’s what I was going to ask you... So you didn’t see him either?” Your smile faltered. “A-ah.. I-I think he might be in the... Uh.. His room! Yeah! Did you check?”
“I did. But he wasn’t there.” You sulked.
“No need to sulk Y/n! He might be somewhere on the island that you haven’t seen yet. The island is huge after all.” That seemed to make you determined again. You nodded then bit him goodbye.
A few minutes had passed when you finally went to the last place you haven’t gone yet, The hotel’s old building. As you went into the dining room, or what you think it is. It was pretty dark, you went near the wall and began finding the light switch. Internally celebrating when you finally found it then flipping it on.
“Oh, you guys are back already- Huh?”
You turned to the source of the sound and gasped. It was-
“Nagito!”
You kneeled in front of him and began untying him from the rope. “Are you alright? What happened? Who did this?” You began asking him questions while checking if he had injuries, to your distress, there were bruises..
“I’m fine, Y/n. Thank you for finding me. I thought I would be here for a while.” He smiled as he took the now loose rope around him and tossed it somewhere. “Who did this to you?” You asked sternly, your face filled with anger.
Komaeda was taken aback by your behaviour. “A-ah. W-well..” He stuttered. “Who did this? Tell me Nagito.”
Komaeda went silent, staring at you innocently and worryingly. You noticed then began taking deep breaths to calm yourself down.
“Ah sorry.. I’m just angry that someone would do this to you.” You apologized.
“Don’t worry, Y/n. It happens sometimes.”
“No it doesn’t.. Rarely. Now please tell me who did this to you.”
“It was Kazuichi and Nekomaru-”
“So it was them huh?” Your face darkened once more. You rounded up your fists when you remembered that Kazuichi was holding a rope earlier. “Y/n. Try to control your anger. Calm down..” Komaeda tried to help you calm down.
“Why? Why did they do this to you? I know you didn’t do anything right?” You asked him, wanting comfort and affirmation from Komaeda. You cupped his face and caressed his cheek while you waited for his answer.
He told you his opinion and that you shouldn't take everything he said seriously because he might be incorrect. Komaeda kissed you then pulled away a minute after. You both rested your forehead against each other as you stared at his eyes, not looking away.
“Thank you, My angel. I don’t know what I could do without you.” Komaeda said.
You sent him a small smile and murmured to his ear “I’ll always be by your side.”.
You then backed away and stood up, giving Komaeda a hand. “Now, let’s treat your bruises now alright?” Komaeda nodded, then took your hand to stand up. He yelped when you carried him bridal style. “Are you alright?” Komaeda nodded again. “Okay, hold on tight. I wouldn’t want you to fall.”
He rested his head on your chest and smiled as he slowly drifted off to sleep. You smiled as you glanced at him.
“Good night Nagito.” You murmured.

Permanent Chaos (4/?)
Pairing: MGK x Female!Reader
Word Count: 4k
Warnings: mild swearing, mentions of underage drinking
Part Summary: Sam hosts a party and Y/N makes a not-so-great acquaintance of a certain rock star.
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Sam’s house is filled with people. I know the majority of the partiers, the rest I can recognize from whatever field of entertainment they’re in. The music is blasting over the speakers and the voices fill the remaining space.
I search around for him. I manage to find him in the family room on the couch. He’s chatting with a group of people, including Penelope. I make my way over, shuffling between bodies. When I appear out from within the crowd, Sam gleams.
“You made it!”
“I did!” I giggle.
We hug and he introduces me to the girl beside him. “Y/N, this is Cara.”
As if I don't know who Cara Delevigne is, I may be busy but I don't live on Mars. I smile at her kindly. “Nice to meet you!”
“You too! I’m a huge fan of your work on TSL!” She gushes, giving my hand a gentle squeeze.
The Seasons of Life is often shortened to TSL, just a side note.
Cara’s accent is so pretty! She’s already a model then she has to have a British accent as if she wasn’t perfect enough!
“Aw, thank you so much!”
Sam slips by me. “I’m going to go get us a drink!”
"Oh wait, Sam!"
“I know what to do!” He shouts back without stopping. I should know better. With how much time we spend together, he would know my order.
“That kid,” I sigh to Penelope and Cara.
The two giggle and we go on to talk about this and that. Fun enough, Cara leaves for Paris tomorrow for a fashion show. Must be exciting to travel so often and to wear the most amazing clothes. She’s quite funny. Her personality is so vibrant and warm. I can see us being good friends.
A loud voice echoes through the house and the three of us look toward the archway to see who it’s coming from. Bodies block the view so I turn my attention back to the girls. Penelope and I discuss the photoshoot in two days and Cara talks about her experiences with Vanity Fair.
“Hey, Cara!” A voice greets behind me.
I don't turn around, but I can feel their energy hovering over me. They shuffle to stand right beside me. I glance up, but can't recognize them.
Cara stands up to hug them. “Good to see you! How are you?” She keeps him in an embrace.
“Great, great!” The guy, who’s back is to me for some reason seems familiar. I can’t quite put my finger on it.
“You know Sam?” She questions as they part.
“Not really, I came with a few friends.”
I look over at Penelope for a hint as to who it could be. She shrugs and watches the two interact.
“Speaking of, have you seen him? I should say hi.” The man asks.
“He went to the kitchen to get a drink for him and Y/N.”
The man turns around and he peers down at me on the couch. I should’ve guessed it… MGK. The hair and a million tattoos should've been a dead giveaway. That bright blonde mess of a hairstyle.
“Colson, this is Y/N Voss,” Cara introduces us.
He glances down at me with a smile. “We’ve met actually,” he claims.
My head tilts, I can’t recall when we've met properly.
“Today after I performed on James’s show,” he describes, towering over me.
“Oh! Awesome!” Cara sits back down next to me.
All I can do is stare at Colson in confusion. “If you count glancing at one another from across the room once as meeting,” I reply a bit snarky.
He gives me a toothy grin and eases down onto the cushion ottoman right across from me. “It was more than one glance,” he argues.
“You would know, you’re the one that never looked away," I fire back.
Cara and Penelope exchange a glance, snicker, then leave the scene together. They offer their goodbye before giggling away. They're smart.
Colson seems to have not noticed or at least doesn’t care. He moves to take Cara's spot on the cushion next to me. “You would’ve had to been looking to have noticed that I never looked away.”
My head rolls back, with a mocking laugh. “Well aren’t you a genius!”
He rests his arm on the back of the couch behind me. “I like to think so.”
“One vodka tonic.” Sam interrupts, holding out my drink.
I take it bitterly. "Thanks."
“Sam huh?” Colson stands up and the two shake hands. “I’m Colson, nice to officially meet you, man!”
Sam treats him like an old friend which annoys the heck out of me. Colson so far has only shown his arrogance to me. “You too! Great seeing you today at the show. Your performance was amazing.”
“Thanks, your interview was hilarious!” Colson fakes charming better than some actors.
“You watched?” Sam asks.
“Yeah, I stuck around just off-camera. You two are great!”
Watching these two talk each other up is a bromance waiting to happen.
Sam gestures to me with his glass. “Y/N here is the real comedian. There’s never a dull moment with her."
“I'm sure.” Colson peers down at me with a bright smile. "We’ve only just met and she’s already sparked a debate with me.”
I narrow my eyes at Colson, what’s he trying to start?
Sam settles down on the ottoman where Colson was. “What about?” He is all for the conversation and is jumping headfirst into the tiff between us.
Colson smiles but I see the mischief in his eyes.
“It wasn’t a debate” I rise to my feet in front of the boys. “If you would excuse.” I step away from the couch a little irked.
“Oh come on now Baby, I’m only joking,” Colson calls not bothered.
“Oh no,” Sam laughs behind me. “Best not call her that or any pet names for that matter. She hates them!”
I don’t even acknowledge them on my walk out of the room. Cocky, annoying, ugh! It’s been maybe five minutes and he’s already managed to irritate me. Maybe all the things they write in the tabloids about him are true. A spoiled, arrogant, womanizing jerk. A piece of the worst parts of the industry. I'm going to go find the girls and stay far away from Colson Baker.
________________________________________
On the set of the Vanity Fair shoot, the atmosphere is lively and carefree. The theme is an 80’s vintage style and since it’s coming back the magazine is mixing old with the new. Sam and I are in an old-fashioned record store and it’s wicked! The walls are teal and remind me of an old Taco Bell. There are rows and rows of just vinyl records. My hair is teased in an 80’s rock band kind of hairstyle. 80s music has been playing on set all morning to set the mood. I'm living for it!
A lady approaches me with a huge light wash denim jacket.
“No way! I get to wear this!” I gush.
She helps me put it on and I’m dying from how awesome this shoot is.
I immediately go to Sam's trailer. “Sam! I’m rocking the denim on denim look!” I show off my high-waisted light wash denim shorts with a black bulky leather belt around my waist.
He laughs. “I appreciate the denim on denim but I have to say my favorite part is the old Bon Jovi T.”
The photographer, Adam, comes up with this brilliant idea for me to stand on the crates of records. Where the two rows in the middle of the store meet, there’s enough room for me to stand. Once I’m up there and I can find the balance in these red heels, they have Sam join me.
“Sam, grab her leg and look up at her as though you’re keeping an eye on her,” Adam instructs.
The camera flashes and between snaps, I change my facial features.
“Good! Good! Let’s get some shots from the counter!”
Sam helps me down from the crates and I hop down. We get a shot of me laying across the counter with a red sucker in my hand and Sam hovering over me. This shoot is incredibly fun and I can’t wait to see the finished product.
Sam and I change outfits and Adam asks if he can get a video for the website and YouTube channel. Of course, we said yes. It’ll be a montage of an interview of us individually and then of us just messing around throughout the store with 80’s music playing in the background. Adam has me sit on an 80’s style floral couch they set up in front of a backdrop in the back room. The whole setup is very comfortable and intimate. Only us, a few lights and a camera with the radio playing. Sam is in makeup and dress for the part of the video of us being candid.
“You can sit however you like!” Adam instructs, meaning I’m sitting too formal with my posture straight and legs crossed. “Act like we’re just hanging out or something.”
I adjust myself and crisscross my legs, slouching a bit.
“Much better!” he compliments, staring down at the camera. He hits up on a stool and positions his camera on the stand. “What’s it like to be on the cover of Vanity Fair?”
“The whole experience is unreal! I remember having a subscription to Teen Vogue growing up. My friends and I loved them!”
“Would you describe your style as modern or classic?”
“Classic for sure!” I gush.
Adam snickers. “What’s your favorite decade for fashion?”
I laugh and gesture down at my outfit. “The 80’s.”
“Does anyone from the 80’s inspire your style in particular?”
I tap the tips of my fingers together and hum. “That’s a toughy! I guess I would have to say Demi Moore for the hair. Specifically, her haircut from About Last Night… that’s where I got the style for my hair actually. Another big one would be Cindy Crawford, such a fashion icon!” I could talk about fashion all day and the icons idolize.
“Heels or sneakers?”
“Depends on the occasion. Sneakers for everyday things, I could never live without my trusty Converse. Yet, I would wear heels if I’m dressing it up a bit.”
"Are you more of a girly-girl or tomboy?”
“People who know me well would say I’m a girly-girl but I also don’t mind downplaying it from time to time. I’ve gotten better lately at relaxing and no being so “on” all the time.”
“Hair up or down?”
“Half up, half down,” I wiggle my eyebrows playfully looking into the camera.
Adam chuckles behind the camera. He changes topics. “You’re from South Carolina originally...”
My heart sinks a little at the mention of home, but I hide behind a smile. “That I am.”
“You haven’t been back in almost a year, do you miss it?”
I play with the ends of my hair, examining my lap. Avoiding the camera lens. I look at anywhere but there. “If I were to miss anything about South Carolina, it would be the gorgeous landscape and southern food."
“You have three siblings, correct?” Adam asks next.
“I do, an older brother and sister, then a younger brother.” I list.
“What do they think about the show and your career?”
I nod. “They support me but the distance is hard. As you said, we haven’t all been together in almost a year.”
“Do you have any plans to go visit home soon?”
I sigh, “sadly no, my work keeps me quite busy.”
The interview goes on and we discuss how my style has evolved since I was a teen starting out in the business. I’ll admit, the topics about home and family sucked. Work and personal life are two separate jobs, my worlds can’t collide. I never bring South Carolina into it.
______________________________________________
After the shoot, I received a call from Cara when we were finishing up the photoshoot. Last night, Cara, Penelope, and I had a blast! I completely forgot about the whole tiff with Colson once I reached them in the kitchen. Since then, we’ve been three peas in a pod. While we were talking on the phone, she invited Sam and me to dinner at The Ivy.
“A small gathering of friends,” she told me and asked for us to be there by seven.
Jump ahead to now and Sam is parallel parking the car. I hop out and wait on the sidewalk for Sam to walk around. Our hands' interlock and the paparazzi take notice of us when people on the sidewalk pull out their phones.
“Y/N! SAM! SAM! OVER HERE!”
“HOW’S FILMING GOING?”
“It’s good to be back on set!” I cover my eyes with my clutch.
“YOUR INTERVIEW WITH JAMES CORDEN WAS GREAT!”
“SOCIAL BLEW UP AFTER THE INTERVIEW!”
Sam asks for the guys to make a path so we can get through without issues. He releases my hand and presses his palm to my lower back protectively.
“WE’VE ALREADY SEEN Cara AND PENELOPE GO IN!”
“A FEW PEOPLE ACTUALLY!”
“ARE YOU ALL MEETING UP?”
“Maybe, maybe not!” I look into one of the video cameras and wink.
The guy behind it gets a hoot out of my expression.
Sam and I reach the restaurant and the men let us go in unbothered.
“WE’LL LEAVE YOU ALONE TO YOUR DINNER!”
“Thanks guys, see you later!” I wave to them and their cameras shoot rapidly.
The noise dies down when we go back further into the restaurant. Sam spots Cara in the back and guides me back there. Tables are lined up in a long row and the majority of the seats are filled.
Cara, cool as a cucumber pulls me into a hug. “Hey Y/N! So glad you two could come!” She sits Sam and me across from each other near the middle. She insisted that I sit by her so we could chat. We get to talking about the Vanity Fair shoot today then she’s pulled away when another guest arrives.
The waitress comes up behind me and requests my drink order.
“I’ll have a sweet tea please.”
“We only serve unsweetened.”
I hate it when they say that. “That’s fine, thank you!” Sam eyes me and I pout about having no sweet tea.
“You realize there’s sugar right here.” He slides me the packets of sugar.
“Yes but it’s not the same. There’s sweet tea at every restaurant where I’m from and I come here boom! Sweet tea is nonexistent!”
"What’s the drink that’s carbonated?” He’s asking to be annoying because the west coast and the midwest disagree on the name.
“Pop!” I glare at him.
“That’s right! Pop! Sounds like you’re saying pot every time.” He laughs at his own joke, finding himself humorous.
“It’s soda by the way," he corrects.
“Uh uh,” I refuse to change my ways, “it’s pop.”
The empty chair next to me slides back and when I glance up to see who’s doing it, an instant headache hits my brain.
Sam greets Colson warmly with a handshake. I shoot Sam another glare. He’s acting neutral but that shouldn’t be a choice in this case. He was my friend first!
Colson removes black Ray-Bans from his face and positions them on top of his head.
“Hello Y/N.” Colson sends me one of his charming grins so many teen girls swoon over.
“Hi,” I reply, not attempting to hide my disinterest. I curve my body away from him and towards Cara, legitly giving him the cold shoulder.
The dinner goes on without a hitch surprisingly, considering the circumstances. Penelope leans down over the back of my chair to say our goodbyes.
I turn around in my chair to face her. “See ya tomorrow.”
“See ya,” she rubs her hand up and down my arm.
She and I exchange kisses on the cheek. “Love you!” We say in unison as we part.
“Later Sam!” She wiggles her fingers at him in a wave.
Sam and I stick around a while longer since Cara and I have gotten into a deep conversation about our shared love for vintage things. A conversation about our collections of records alone went on for twenty minutes. I hadn't noticed that it was just four of us now. Sam and Colson have been talking most of the dinner.
A pair of hands rest on my shoulders and steal my attention away from Cara. “Y/N, you ready to go?” Sam asks.
“We’ll head out too!” Cara announces with her sights directed behind me.
I look over my shoulder and Colson is standing beside Sam. The four of us walking out together… how convenient.
I grab my clutch, sticking close to Sam to dodge Colson.
The four of us walk toward the front of the restaurant and right when we reach the steps leading outside, Cara announces that she forgot her purse.
“I’ll be right back!” She urges us to go on without her.
The cameras waited for us as I assumed they would. They’re capturing every minute of us waiting for Cara.
I place my hand on Sam’s shoulder, “would you go help her?”
“You sure?” His eyes flicker between me and Colson.
“I’ll be fine,” I assure him and he promises he’ll only be a second.
“Go to the car so you aren’t bothered,” he refers to the paparazzi.
“I’ll walk her,” Colson offers.
Sam gives him the go-ahead as he goes off to help in the search for the purse.
I’m left with the one guy I was avoiding. I grip the keys in my hand and walk down the brick steps to the sidewalk. I hear Colson behind me and stop to address him. “I can walk myself to the car.”
He raises his arms mocking a surrender. “I don’t doubt your ability to walk, just helping out.”
“I don’t need your help,” I scoff, starting to walk again.
“I never said you did,” Colson sassily replies.
*Click* *Click* *Click*
A man runs around me to get a photo of me straight on.
“Y/N! Y/N! WALKING IN WITH SAM AND LEAVING WITH MGK, ANY EXPLANATION?”
I pause for a moment, making eye contact with the man behind the camera. Is he honestly trying to start drama? What lies are he going to sell? I’m only going to the car because Sam requested. The only reason Colson is even near me is that he’s so freaking persistent.
I push back the aggravation and force my lips into a kind smile. I can’t have a single moment of weakness. I can’t give in to my emotions like others. “Sam is helping Cara with something inside. Colson was kind enough to walk me to the car.”
“HOW LONG HAVE YOU GUYS KNOWN EACH OTHER?”
I purposefully answer quickly so Colson doesn’t even have the chance to think of a response. “Not long, we met the other day backstage at The Late Late Show. We have a lot of the same friends and had no idea!” I peek over at Colson and he gives me a knowing look. I dismiss it and go on with my charade. I will not let this jerk mess with my career.
“ANY CHANCE OF HAVING COLSON GUEST STAR ON THE SHOW?”
“That would be great!” I lie my butt off, “having more friends on set would be fun!”
“COLSON, HOW’S YOUR NEW ALBUM COMING ALONG?!”
“We’re in the recording stage right now. Should be released sometime this summer," he answers.
“FOLLOWING UP WITH A TOUR?”
“Of course!” he chuckles.
I unlock the car and move around the guys to reach the door.
“WE’LL LET YOU GUYS GO ON. ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR NIGHT!” One of them departs.
“Thank you! You too!” I wave goodbye.
Some stick behind to get a few last pictures but for the most part, they all disburse. The ones remaining, however, keep their distance.
I yank on the handle of the door and Colson holds it for me. As if he's a gentleman. I begin to climb in, prepared to yank it shut in his face.
“Friends huh?” Colson chuckles.
I turn around abruptly and check around the general area of the sidewalk for any cameras. Seems the remainder of the guys have left. I shut the door and Colson removes his hand in a rush.
“No, not friends! I only said that to please the public," I huff.
“Ouch!” he acts offended, placing his hand on his heart. “I did find it interesting that you claimed we met backstage the other day so I was right!” He chuckles, believing he caught me.
“No, no, no, no!" I shut that thought down quickly. "The only reason I made that up was that it’s not good for my image if I admit I was at a party. People tend to assume that heavy drinking and drugs occur at parties. I can’t be associate with that scene!”
“Oh, so it’s alright to lie?” He crosses his arms and snickers, glancing down the street toward the restaurant.
I roll my eyes, of course, he doesn’t understand, why would he? “You don’t get it” I scoff, dismissing him. I turn and reach for the car handle again.
“So what if you were at a party? People drink, if some have a problem with that, that’s their problem. Oh! I forgot! You're America's Sweetheart! The perfect angel princess with a spotless record,” he mocks.
I slam the car door shut, having hit my limit. I keep my voice hush. “It’s not that simple! I'm not like you! I can't be caught partying! If the country, the world, sees the truth then my image is ruined! I've been doing this since I was a teenager! I worked way too hard for far too long to lose everything over a stupid mistake!”
Colson’s face falters from his usual carefree expression to one of seriousness.
“Found it! Let’s go!” Sam announces loudly to the whole block.
I toss him the keys and glance back to Colson who stands there in a stillness I have yet to see from me. His stare makes me want to hide. I feel as though I’m under a microscope being studied.
“Toodaloo Y/N! ‘Till next time my pals!” Cara strolls down the sidewalk.
It’s evident she’s had a couple of drinks. She sways further down the sidewalk and comes to a stop once she notices Colson isn’t following.
“Later Cara!” Sam shouts over the top of the car behind me.
Colson and I stare at each other I’m guessing for different reasons. He appears lost in thought and I’m desperately trying to figure out why. If I look away, I fear he’ll break to pieces or something.
Cara pauses. “Colson? You coming?”
He holds out for a moment but finally breaks eye contact with me. "Yeah."
When I’m no longer staring into those black works of art I regain my ability to move. I hurry into the car and Sam says his goodbyes again over the top of the car. I buckle my seatbelt when he climbs in. Watching strangers walk up and down the sidewalk, I’m perfectly aware of Sam starring me down.
He pulls onto the street. “Are we gonna talk about it or are we doing silence?”
I reach over and turn up the radio.
“Of course you make your own option.” Sam watches me, waiting for some sort of explanation.
We come in at the end of a song and the next one is oh too recognizable. The classic rock sound that is a part of all of Colson’s music plays through the car speakers. His vocals enter the soundwave and I groan loudly over the music before turning off the radio.
"No music then!" I snap.

A Deep Dive of the Junna-Nana Revue in the Movie, or why you really ought to believe in others more
Tumblr media
The Revues in Revue Starlight can be difficult to understand.
Usually that’s because of all the imagery and music and symbolism coming at you simultaneously, but this one in particular is confusing because Nana is just so hard to understand. She is absolutely terrifying in the movie, and last time it was because she had to protect her reruns, but we don’t know why she’s doing it this time. And don’t get me wrong, we just had a whole thing where Mahiru chased Hikari with murderous intent, but that was acting! So we keep waiting for Nana to drop the act, but she never does! Even when Junna is crying and has lost the will to fight, Nana just leaves her behind like she doesn’t even care!? What’s going on? Nana is Junna’s biggest fan! What happened to Nana? What’s going on?
So this is my attempt to lay out everything going on and try to get a better understanding of what was going on with Junna and Nana throughout the movie. It’s also part of my series of deep dives into each of the movie’s Revues, and while it should be able to be read as a standalone thing, I will be analyzing the Revue of Annihilation in this one, so I may touch on the issues everyone else is dealing with as well.
So to start it off, let’s take a look at what Junna’s dealing with at the start of the movie.
And I gotta say, girlie is going through it.

A Deep Dive of the Claudine-Maya Revue in the Movie, or why you really ought to read the fine print before signing a contract in tomato juice
Tumblr media
So the Revues in Revue Starlight are a lot.
There is just so much packed into a few minutes. The sets! The fighting! The music! There’s just so much going on that you can’t completely process everything going on at once. And it’s absolutely awesome. The Revues look so amazing and feel so epic.
And sure it’s a lot, but we still get what’s happening. We saw the build up to each Revue, and we mostly know what’s going on in each of their heads. After all, it’s not just the stage that matters in the revues, but also the emotions going into it. For some, they’re worried about their future as a stage girl, whether or not they’ll be good enough to one day achieve their dreams. And for others, they’re worried about what graduation will mean for their relationships with each other as they each go on their separate paths. And as much as they try to hide it, these anxieties boil over in their Revues, forcing them to confront their deepest insecurities in front of the very person they tried so hard to hide it from.
But they’re never alone in these cases, they have their partner. Admittedly this usually doesn’t help at first since the only thing worse than one person catastrophizing over their future is two people catastrophizing over their futures. But still, they all manage to figure it out in the end together.
But Maya and Claudine aren’t insecure about the future. Both of them know that they’ll get into their dream troupe and neither of them seem too bothered about the fact that the two of them will be going their separate ways after High School.
So unlike every other Revue so far, which has been desperate and came from a place of hurt, the Revue of Soul starts off so much more lighthearted. The vibes are completely different from everything that came before in the movie. It feels like Maya and Claudine have nothing left to say to each other, that they are doing this Revue just for fun, it’s like a game to them.
But obviously it’s not just that, the two of them mean so much to each other! They’re just acting otherwise because of their pride, and once the two of them decide to drop all pretenses, they can finally have a proper Revue, where they put everything on the line just to understand each other.
And to see how we got here, I’m going to try to lay out everything going on with Claudine and Maya in the Movie that got us here. This is a part of a series of Deep Dives I’m doing for each of the Movie’s Revues, and while you can read this one without reading the others, I may make some references to themes and ideas that I brought up in the earlier Deep Dives, but I’ll do my best to give context if that ever happens.
So first I wanna talk about Maya at the start of the Movie.

My #1 post of 2022
It’s really funny how big a deal Kaoruko is in all the non-anime Revue Starlight media.
Like in the mobile game, Tamao from Rinmeikan was always second place to Kaoruko in the Kyoto dance competitions, so when their schools have to face each other in a Revue, Tamao tries to ask Kaoruko not to participate because Tamao couldn’t see herself winning if Kaoruko was there.
Or how in the stage plays, she was so legendary that there’s a school in Kyoto whose entire drama department worships Kaoruko and would go all the way to Tokyo just for the chance to meet her.
Meanwhile in the anime we see Kaoruko’s daily life, and she’s the literally the most pathetic person you’ve ever seen.

idk you yet - luke hughes (part one)
wc: 2830
warnings: probably a few curses, i honestly can’t really remember:)
inspired by idk you yet by alexander 23.
---
how can you miss someone you’ve never met?
the words forming on luke’s arm startle him at first. there’s a tingling tickle-like feeling as each letter appears, but luke can barely believe his eyes. he was just about to turn seventeen and until that moment he had no sign of his soulmate whatsoever. but now? now he had proof on his arm that his soulmate was out there somewhere. that meant the boys could finally stop teasing him in the locker room about possibly not having a soulmate.
it felt like everyone around luke knew their soulmate was out there. it was such a rare possibility that someone didn’t have a soulmate - if their soulmate passed away, chances are they would too due to the pain from the loss. and, well, luke hadn’t died yet, so that was his only hope of his soulmate being out there.
the initial shock is soon replaced by pure adrenaline. luke can barely pay attention to what ever mrs. clemmens is writing on the board; all he can focus on is writing back to his soulmate. whoever she might be.
i don’t know you yet, but i need you. do you know how long i’ve waited to hear from you?
you’re smiling down at your arm - it was always a game whenever you’d finally be able to contact your soulmate. some were able to as soon as their fifteenth birthday, some couldn’t until their eighteenth. and well, if you hadn’t contacted them by then, there was some bad news to be delivered. but it was all a waiting game. the day you were able to contact them was supposed to be one of the happiest days of your life, but there was only one catch: your soulmate could be thousands of miles from you.
and what about me with you?
“mr. hughes!”
luke’s attention snaps to the front of the classroom, where the middle aged woman now has her hands on her hips staring at one of her best pupils. luke’s eyes are wide, the color draining from his face as each head of his classmates turn to look at him.
“care to share what’s gotten you so smiley, luke? or will you pay attention to my lesson for at least three seconds?” luke sputters for a few seconds, causing the woman’s eyebrows to spike up in question. “out with it.”
“i’ll, i’ll pay attention, mrs. clemmens.” the brunette finally manages to get out, sinking back in his seat. the color returns to his face, but this time it’s the same shade of red as the apple on mrs. clemmen’s desk. he didn’t want to leave her hanging, but he wasn’t going to risk getting in trouble again. he wasn’t going to out himself for finally finding his soulmate - and being one of the last in his grade to do so.
luke feels his phone vibrate in his sweatshirt pocket, and upon just the right moment he pulls his phone out to see tyler had messaged him.
tyler b: were you finally able to talk to her?
luke isn’t able to respond to tyler in fear that mrs. clemmens will have a few words for him, and surely enough he didn’t need to get into any more trouble with one of his teachers. one more write up and he was going to be benched for an entire month. so against his better judgement, he sticks his hands in his pockets and pays attention to the lesson going on. all while trying to ignore the tickle feeling on his hand.
“i can’t believe you were finally able to talk to him!” mal gushes, her eyes glued to your arm that had a mix of jet black and purple ink scrawled on it. there was game @7 written on your hand in purple ink, along with a star next to it. “how do you think tyler is going to react?”
your heart nearly drops in your chest. tyler. your boyfriend - of almost a year, in fact. in the midst of it all you seemed to of forgotten about him, your mind elsewhere, and it was on your soulmate. your soulmate that wasn’t him.
“i have to tell him, don’t i?” you look up at your best friend, eyes glossier than they had been seconds before. “mal, i dunno, i dunno if i can do that. tyler is- he’s so sweet. he’s gonna be crushed.”
“who’s gonna be crushed?”
speak of the devil.
tyler drops his bag on the floor, sitting down in the seat next to you like he always did in english class. mal notices the slight tension, turning back to face forward in her seat as she waits for class to begin. you take a quick breath, turning to your boyfriend, you grasp both of his hands in yours. “ty, i have to tell you something.”
tyler’s eyes glance down to your wrist, and only the slightest bit is showing from the sleeves of your sweater riding up, but he sees it. the black ink. “anything, y/n.” he clears his throat, pretending like he hadn’t seen anything at all.
“you’re not my soulmate.”
“i know.”
your eyes widen ever so slightly, and you watch as tyler slides up the sleeve of his hoodie. there are a few little sentences scrawled on his skin, ones that were clearly not on yours. you can’t quite find the words to say. your mouth opens and closes a few times before finally, you’re stumped, and you sit back in your seat with your eyebrows furrowed. you let go of his hands, your own falling into your lap.
“how long?” you finally manage to muster out, meeting his regretful eyes. he had reassured you multiple times that he hadn’t heard from his soulmate yet, but you should’ve gone against your better judgement when he was suddenly wearing long sleeves all the time. and it wasn't just for the winter, you now realized.
“about, about three months.” he notices the look on your face, and just like moments before he takes your hands in his. “y/n, just because you aren’t my soulmate doesn’t mean i never loved you. i still do love you. i just-”
“it’s okay, i get it.” you cut him off, pulling your hands away from his. “it’s okay, ty. i just wish you would have told me sooner, that’s all.” your voice trails off to a whisper. tyler grabs your hand once more, and he presses a kiss to the back of it.
“friends?” he asks, and when you nod your head, he presses another kiss to your skin before releasing his hold on your hand. you have to swallow the lump that’s forming in your throat. of course you were upset - you had every reason to be. but you weren’t expecting to be this upset, and you also weren’t expecting tyler to say he already knew the two of you weren’t soulmates.
the english period seems to drag on and on, and after what feels like two hours the bell rings. “walk with me to lunch?” you hear the brunette next to you speak, and you find yourself nodding. “y/n/n, please, talk to me. i hate when you’re mad a me.”
“i’m not mad at you, ty. i promise you that. i just wasn’t expecting it, that’s all.” tyler gives you a tight lipped smile, and before the two of you can start to walk to the cafeteria, tyler pulls his hoodie off, revealing his inked arm. it’s a pang to the heart, but you know that you’ll get over it eventually. “what’s she like?” you ask quietly, the two of you starting the few minute trek across the school.
“she’s, she’s really nice. she’s pretty, too. i follow her on instagram, actually. her name is gabby.” tyler glances over at you a few times as he speaks, and you can only find yourself to be nodding along to his words. “i know she’s my soulmate and all, y/n, but she isn’t you.”
you stop in your tracks, causing tyler to turn around to look at you. “don’t. don’t say that. she’s your soulmate, and i’m not, for a reason, tyler boucher. don’t say that about her. i’m sure she’s lovely, and she’s everything that i can’t be for you.”
“i’m sorry i just-” tyler cuts himself off with a sigh, going to reach for your hand but he stops halfway. “i wanted it to be you. i thought it was you. and then one day, i had writing on my wrist, and i looked at yours and it wasn’t there. i know that’s supposed to be one of the happiest days of our life, but it was one of the worst for me. because i wanted it to be you, y/n. so bad.”
to say the least, the two of you were pretty much the ‘it’ couple. your entire friend group adored you both, and you were the first girl that the boys allowed over when they all hung out - but only occasionally. it was never an all the time thing, which you understood. but still, you and tyler had been through a lot together for not even being together a year.
“it all happens for a reason,” you say, tears welling up in your eyes as your feet start moving again, and tyler is following after you, quickly matching your pace. “i just, i don’t know, tyler. there’s not much we can do about it and that’s fine.”
“you’re right.” the brunette mumbles, head hanging in despair as you walked down the steps to go into the cafeteria. the rest of the walk between the two of you is silent, but a comfortable one.
the lunch table you, tyler, all of the boys, mal, and a few other girls came into view. and as soon as they realized tyler wasn’t wearing his sweatshirt and his arms were fully exposed, along with the pen ink and the looks on your faces, they all knew. they knew that you finally knew.
the conversations going on didn’t completely stop, but they quieted down for a few brief moments when you and tyler took your usual seats. you try to avoid the eyes of your friends, but it’s nearly impossible. your eyes catch luke’s, and he’s giving you the puppy dog eyes from the other side of the table.
“are you okay?” he asks quietly, and all you can do is shake your head ever so slightly. “oh, y/n.”
luke wants to reach across the table and grab your hands, but he wants to save himself from the teasing he’s sure he would get from the boys if they saw the girly handwriting on the back of his hand. “i’ll be alright, lu. promise.” you give him a reassuring smile, but of course he doesn’t believe it. not in the slightest.
“are you still gonna come to our game tonight?” tyler asks quietly from your right side, and when you turn to look at him he’s already looking down at you. if this was yesterday, you would’ve leaned up the three inches and kissed him.
“of course i’m gonna.” you say, eyes glancing down to his lips but you quickly turn away to look down at your hands. “there’s no where else i’d rather be, ty. besides, luke is still my best friend and i still have to support him.”
luke sends you a smile from across the table, one that makes you smile right back at him. for majority of the lunch period, everyone leaves you alone to wallow in your own sadness. even luke couldn’t cheer you up, and that was something. you know you shouldn’t be this upset - this happened to like, every couple that dated before finding their soulmate. but for some reason you thought you and tyler were the exception.
another period drags on, and after what feels like forever you find yourself getting up from your designated lunch spot. luke stands, waiting for you to walk to the other side of the table so the two of you can go to art class together. “see you boys tonight,” you call over your shoulder, tearing your eyes away from tyler, and walking away hearing the boys responding saying they’ll see you later that night.
“rant. cry. do whatever you have to do.” luke says, glancing over at his best friend that looks like she could burst into tears at any moment. luke had been waiting all day to tell you that he had finally heard from his soulmate - but as soon as he saw the look on your face he held back. he didn’t want to rub it in when you had just found out about tyler. the biggest secret he had ever kept from you.
“i just,” you purse your lips, eyes locked straight forward to avoid looking at him. “i just wish he would’ve told me. the last few months of our relationship feel like a complete lie.”
“y/n, tyler absolutely adored you. he still adores you. he never even stopped. and i can tell you for a fact that he still loves you. he’s always talking about you - he was talking about you when we were in second period today!” luke exclaims, and finally you look over at him. “i can promise you, y/n, it was not a lie, it never was.”
you can only shake your head, bottom lip between your teeth as the tears well up in your eyes. “it was supposed to be him, lu. ty and i have talked about our entire future together because we swore we were gonna end up being soulmates.”
“maybe you are soulmates,” luke says, holding open the door of the art room for you. “it’s just, not in the way you’d prefer. ty and you are soulmates, but just not romantically. do you get what i’m saying?”
“i guess.” you sigh, luke following into the classroom after you walk in. his heart yearns for you - he wants to lift up his sleeve and show you the purple ink, but he can’t bring himself to do that.
later that night you find yourself getting ready for tyler and luke’s game, trying to decide between the 13 or the 6 jersey - jerseys the two boys had fought numerous times over which one you would wear. once tyler found out luke had given you one of his old jerseys he had outgrown, he was immediately giving you one of his as well. that was even before you and tyler were dating - he always had the biggest crush on you.
which was why he was sitting in his stall, head in his hands wondering where he had went wrong.
“ty, buddy, what’s going on?” dylan asks, noticing the brunette that has his head hung. immediately, tyler lifts his head and dylan’s eyes widen. “you look like shit, dude.”
“i feel like shit,” tyler grumbles, slowly moving to tie the laces of his skates that he always saved until the very end of gearing up. he catches a glimpse of the ink on his arm and he grimaces, wishing he could just wiped away at his skin and everything would disappear. that everything would be okay.
luke catches the eyes of his best friend and he frowns seeing the hurt in his eyes. “are you still upset about y/n?” he asks cautiously, fingers working at his laces, eyes barely glancing back up to tyler.
“yeah, i am actually. i know i don’t really have a right to be upset and all, but it still feels wrong. we went through a lot together, it just doesn’t feel real that we aren’t really soulmates. that the .  girl i was practically in love with since i got here isn’t my soulmate.” tyler shakes his head as he spills his feelings for the day out. he couldn’t wait until he got to step onto the ice and forget about the day’s events.
until he saw you sitting in your normal seat, and instead of the number 13 jersey, you were wearing the one with the 6, and the seven letter last name on the back was now one letter shorter.
“oh fuck me,” tyler grumbles, and you’d be lying if you said your heart strings didn’t tug seeing him step out onto the ice. if the two of you had only been dating for two months rather than almost a year, maybe you would’ve felt different about the situation. but that was tyler. your tyler. or rather, gabby’s tyler now.
“y/n?” bella asks from besides you, trying to tear your sad eyes away from the brunette. when you finally do and look over at one of your best friends, she sees your teary eyes and her face softens. “oh, y/n/n. you’re taking this hard, aren’t you?”
“i don’t want my soulmate if it isn’t tyler.”

Midsummer: JJ Maybank

MASTERLIST
a/n: took a long time writing this and I've never done anything like this (where its y/n) so any feedback would be greatly appreciated <3
~
You had never technically been to the Midsummer festival. Of course, since you were a Kook, your parents were invited and tried to make you go but every year came a new excuse. First, you had the "stomach flu." Then, there was that time you said you had "strep throat." Another time, you had a "fever." You had so many excuses for not going to Midsummer every year, you had become a pro at lying.
Only this time, you had an actual reason not to go and, out of all the times, your parents didn't believe you.
You had told them the truth. You and Rafe had just gotten into a huge argument and had technically broken up. It wasn't official or anything but you both knew it was the end. You wanted to stay home and binge watch 'New Girl' from the beginning and maybe order some food. You just wanted to indulge yourself for a moment. You had lost 170 pounds (aka Rafe) and you kinda wanted to celebrate.
Rafe loved keeping up appearances and you were just another way to do that. You were the "perfect" girl next door. You surfed, played soccer during the school year, and it helped that your parents were loaded. You and Rafe looked like a great couple on the outside, but the reality was you were both broken in one way or another. You were struggling with your mundane life, finding every day one endless loop. You were desperate to break free but didn't know how. Rafe was struggling with addiction and wouldn't admit to you that he had a problem.
Finally, you were at your breaking point. This morning, while you still had the courage, you started to talk to Rafe about getting help. You had kept this secret for him for too long and keeping it any longer wouldn't help anyone. Rafe, as you expected, flew off the handle and said the most horrible stuff. He called you a bitch, a slut, and basically every thing that could hurt a person. And you took it because that's what you always did. Then he said something that you couldn't forgive.
You're gonna die alone.
All of those words before never hurt as much as this one. You think it hurts the most because there's a possibility that it's true. You have never had an honest conversation with anyone in your life, including Rafe. You let people in, but not all the way. You were scared to get hurt, but even more scared to die alone. Rafe knew that.
So, you told him you're done and then left. No, you're here, talking to your parents and telling them you couldn't go because you had broken up with Rafe.
"I just don't understand what happened. Rafe is such a nice young man." Your mother said, going through her jewelry box to find the right earrings to match the dress that was laying across her bed.
The Midsummer party was not to start until the sun set in about three hours but your mom loved getting ready early and this party was no exception.
"I just don't want to go. Rafe is escorting me and I don't wanna put on a smile and pretend like everything's okay when it's not."
You didn't understand your mother sometimes. She was fine with letting you stay home from the party for years now as long as there was a physical reason like a cold. Now that you're telling her it's a mental reason, she could care less. You watched her by the frame of her bedroom door. She continued to look in her jewelry box and not for one second check on you.
"It's just for tonight sweetie." She smiled, but not at you.
At first you thought it was directed at you even though she wasn't looking at you. Then you realized she had found the matching earrings and that's why she was smiling. She held them up to her ears and looked in the mirror for a second.
You wondered if she remembered she had a daughter. It felt like she didn't remember sometimes.
You couldn't change her mind. You knew this now. She was picking out her jewelry and accessories now and the room for anything other than the talk of jewelry and makeup was not interesting to her. You decided to cave, not wanting to plead your case again.
So, you returned to your room and called the only person that ever listened to you. Your best friend, Sarah Cameron. She had recently met a Pogue named John B. and also didn't want to go to the Midsummer party where Topper, her soon-to-be ex boyfriend, was escorting her. She had planned to break up with Topper to be with John B. but hadn't gotten the chance yet. Although she wanted to end things with Topper, she didn't want to cause any drama and breaking up with him at the Midsummer party was definitely not a good way to avoid drama.
Sarah understood. She always did.
"Hey girlie." Sarah chimed as she answered the phone.
You instantly smiled, sitting down on your bed. "Hey."
You could basically hear the frown in Sarah's voice as she spoke. "What's wrong? Did Rafe text you?"
You hummed a no. Just hearing Sarah's voice made you feel better. "I tried to tell my mom I don't feel like going but she refuses to listen."
Sarah sighed. "I'm sorry Y/N. I'll look after you tonight. Make sure Rafe doesn't talk to you. He'll escort you to the party and then that's all you'll see from him. I promise."
You chuckled. "And who is gonna make sure Topper stays away from you as you go meet up with your new boyfriend?"
"Ah, my friend," Sarah chides. "That's where you come in. We'll help each other out tonight."
You laugh, the plan sounding ridiculous but it made enough sense to actually work. "Okay, I'll see you then."
"See you there sister." sang Sarah, hanging up the phone soon after.
After you put your phone down to charge, you decided to take a shower and start getting ready for the Midsummer party. You showered quickly, scrubbing your hair so that it wouldn't smell, as your mother says, "like the sea."
After you got out, you washed you face with a cleanser and towel dried your hair. You then brushed your teeth for the second time today and popped in a mint. You put your hair up in a bun while it was still wet so it could dry on it's own. That's when you picked out your dress. Your mom had bought it for you a week ago and it had been collecting dust in your closet ever since. You laid it out on your bed and finally got a proper look at it.
It was a yellow, spaghetti strap dress that fell to your ankles. It was made out of silk and shined even with your bedroom light. When you had tried it on, your remembered how tight it was on the bodice and how it dainty it looked on you. You did like it and it made you feel like a princess, you just wished you didn't have to wear it for the Midsummer party.
You started your makeup first. You applied a tinted moisturizer to give yourself a natural glow and then applied some concealer to lighten your under eyes. Once ever was evenly applied, you filled in your brows and brushed them back and applied some mascara. You added blush and some highlighter to give you a brighter glow. You finally finished off the look with a nude lip.
You let your hair down and it was stil damp. In an attempt to get your hair to dry faster, you got a blow dryer and dried the rest of your hair. Once it was all dry, you brushed it through once and let it stay down. It had turned out nice, the natural curls in your hair giving you the volume you needed. Why change something that already looked so good.
With your makeup and hair done, you finally got changed into your dress. Once it was own, you gave yourself a proper look in the mirror.
You did look beautiful. You had to admit, when you put effort in, you cleaned up well. Although you liked how you turned out, your heart still hurt. Not because of Rafe, but because you can't imagine doing this every year for the rest of your life. Your parents were always okay with doing the same things everyday. You weren't. You wanted to go out on adventures and experience all life had to offer. You wanted to travel by yourself. You wanted to have something different to do everyday. This mundane life you saw your parents do was not for you but you were scared if you lived any more days like this, it was going to be your future. That's what scared you the most. Not being able to get out of the bubble your parents and your life as a Kook put you in. It's one of the reasons you envied the Pogues. Sure they might not have as much money but they had adventures and didn't lead a mundane life. Everyday was different. You sometimes wished you were a Pogue.
You slipped on your heels and looked into the mirror one last time. You looked good but still couldn't smile fully. You didn't hate how you looked, you hated the person looking back.
You didn't know if that ever would change.
~
Sarah always looked beautiful and you hated it. Even on days when she woke up, hung over with bed head, she just had to smile and she'd look beautiful.
When you entered Sarah's house, she was waiting for you in her bedroom. Her dad, Ward, told you where she was and you basically rushed upstairs. You hadn't seen her in two days since before she went on an adventure with John B. and you needed to know all the juicy details.
Now, as you looked at her in that perfect white dress, you didn't feel self conscious, but you certainly felt like you had to change.
"Holy hell." Sarah said as she stood up from her bed. "You look so sexy."
You rushed to her and hugged her for a moment before saying anything. "I look sexy? Look at you. You look like an angel."
Sarah laughed, grabbing your hand and squeezing it. "How are you doing?"
You shrugged. There wasn't much to say. You weren't really torn up over the situation. "I'm fine. We both knew it was coming."
Sarah laughed. "You should've seen my brother. He was totally freaking out when he called Topper."
You frowned. "Sorry. I know he's your brother."
Sarah waved her hands in the hair. "Are you kidding me? Someone needed to knock Rafe down a few pegs. I'm glad you guys are done. He doesn't deserve you."
You hugged Sarah again. She really was the most important person in your life right now. You didn't know how you got so lucky.
"Speaking of which, are Topper and Rafe here?"
Sarah sighed and nodded. "Waiting for us downstairs to escort us to the Midsummer party."
You rolled my eyes, grabbing onto Sarah's hand again. "Ugh. We can't just keep them waiting."
Sarah smirked, playing along with your sarcasm. "God forbid."
As you guys made your way downstairs, you talked. You knew you couldn't ask her all the details right now but you made sure to let her know that once you were alone, you'd pressure her to tell you all the information. You had seen John B. and his friends around OBX but had rarely talked. The only time you ever encountered each other was when you and Sarah slept on the boat overnight and John B. had come in the early morning to drop off the scuba gear. They seemed to not get along at all so you still wonder what changed.
"Just one question?" You pleaded as you and Sarah made your way to the sliding glass doors, leading you to the backyard where the party was taking place. The sun was setting now and the party would be starting any minute.
"Fine, shoot." Sarah nodded, whispering to you now since Topper and Rafe could see you and Sarah now.
"Is he a good kisser or not?" You leaned over to whisper in her ear.
"What are you beautiful ladies whispering about?" Topper asks as he approaches you and Sarah. You instantly pull away, acting very suspicious.
"How to please a woman. Not that you would know." You smirk at Topper, being very mean. For good reason though. He had made Sarah feel very bad about not sleeping with him and you were glad she had moved on. Now, hopefully Topper would too.
Topper rolled his eyes. "Hello Y/N. How are you?" You know he's only being so nice to try and impress Sarah and show her he's changed. Of course Sarah doesn't buy it.
"I'm spectacular." You gave Topper a wide smile. Maybe if you stared at him long enough, his head would explode.
"Good." Topper grumbled, looking at Sarah. "You look amazing."
Sarah frowned. "Yeah, thanks." She seemed so unenthusiastic it was almost funny.
Topper extended out his hand, ready for Sarah to take it. Sarah looked at you and tried to smile but you could see her discontent. Sarah unwilllingly reached for it and smiled again at Topper.
Here's the thing; if you have to smile so much at everyone all the time, you're probably not happy.
Just as Sarah and Topper move away, Sarah stops, tells Topper to wait one moment and turns around to you. She smiles, for real this time, and says, "To answer your question; yeah, really well."
You giggle, trying to make sure Topper does not ask too many questions. That smile that you had, though, is now replaced with a frown.
You can see him lurking near the door, finding the courage to come up to me.
God, I wished he would just leave me alone, you thought.
You decide against confronting him and instead walk to Sarah's kitchen to grab some water. The doors to Sarah's backyard can be seen if you stood in Sarah's kitchen so you can see Sarah walk out with Topper, smiling and waving. People who don't know Sarah well won't know the difference but you do. Her shoulders are slightly droopy and her smile is not as wide as it usually is.
You watch her quickly depart from Topper soon after he's escorted her around and you can see Topper stay behind, a little shocked she's gone. You don't know why he is, but that's the thing with guys like him. They never think they're the problem.
Speaking of problems, Rafe has followed you into the kitchen and is just standing there. You pretend not to see him. Maybe if you ignore him, you thought, he'll take the hint and walk away.
Of course, he doesn't and as you try to walk past him, he stops you from leaving the kitchen. He's standing in front of you. So, you move to the right and he follows, blocking you again.
"Can we talk?" He asks, reaching out for your hand.
You move my hand out of the way. "Don't touch me."
"Y/N..." He's looking at you with those puppy dog eyes and granted it would've worked at one point but not anymore.
"No." You say sternly. "This is what's gonna hapen: you're gonna escort me out and after that we'll never talk again."
Rafe frowns even harder. "I don't want that. I said things I shouldn't have but -"
"No." You cut him off. "There's no more excuses. We're done."
Rafe's brows crease together. You can tell he's pissed now. "No. You're not giving up on us."
You scoffed, his confidence misplaced. "Trust me, you gave up a long time ago." You then grab onto his elbow, surprising him a little. You could tell he was confused and so you rolled your eyes and then spoke again, "you're escorting me."
Rafe's eyes widened and quickly nodded, guiding you to the glass doors. As you walked, you felt a weight lifted. It had been a long time for you to admit this but you wer glad you guys were over. Your relationship was not aware near perfect and very toxic. The weight lifting, you realized, was definitely Rafe's link to your life.
As the doors opened, you put on a smile and stared waving. You looked around and smiled at your family and friends but you were looking for Sarah. You saw your mother, who was clapping and had a proud smile on her lips. She gave you a thumbs up but you looked away. Could she seriously be any more annoying?
Finally, you spotted Sarah near table. She was looking at you and clapping. You could tell from her facial features that she was being sarcastic. You stuck your tongue out quickly as you walked and waved and she quickly flipped you off.
Once you were done, Rafe let go of you. You turned to him and gave him a half smile.
He did not smile back. "I'm sorry."
Your smile dropped. "Are you?"
And with that, you walked away. Once you got to Sarah's table, she was already standing you give you a hug. You hugged her tightly, sighing as you did. It was finally over. You never had to speak to him again.
"How are you feeling?" Sarah asks, the boh of you sitting down at the table beside each other.
You shrugged. "Surprisingly, I'm good."
Sarah smiled. "It's cause you know it's for the best."
You nodded. You hoped so. "You want a drink?"
Sarah nodded. "Thanks so much."
You got up and went to find a waiter. There were so many around you but each one was speaking to someone and you didn't want to bother them. It took a little of a walk but you finally saw a blond boy in a waiter's suit, standing there. He seemed to be doing nothing so you approached him.
"Excuse me." You said politely, causing the blond boy to turn around. You knew who it was.
JJ Maybank. A Pogue. Specifically, one of John B.'s friends. More specifically, the guy who pulled a gun out on Topper. You were there and saw it all. He had never liked him. Although you hated Topper as much as the next sane person, he didn't deserve that.
JJ looked at you, up and down. He then smirked and crossed his arms over his shoulders. "Yes princess?"
You scoffed. "Not happening. I need a ginger ale and Sprite."
JJ scoffed back, imitating you. "A 'please sir' would help. Or do you Kooks not know how to say please?"
You glared at him. "I know how to say please to people who deserve it."
"And I don't?" JJ asked, bemused.
"No." You said coldly.
"You don't even know me."
"I know the type." You retorted.
JJ grabbed ahold of his chest, faking being wounded. "Wow, that stings Y/N."
You rolled your eyes, ignoring the fact he knew your name. "You don't need me to explain it to you?"
JJ nodded, a smirk adorning his lips. "I really do, miss."
So you did. "I've heard stories about you JJ. You pulled a gun out on Topper, use girls left and right, and get into trouble with the law for fun. Trust me, I don't wanna get to know you."
JJ frowned, maybe for real this time. "Ever heard of don't judge a book by the Kook's stories?"
You tried to suppress a laugh. "Just get me those drinks."
JJ nodded at you and then you turned away and made your way back to Sarah. To be honest, he wasn't anything like Rafe had said. Yes, you had been there the night he pulled the gun but he was completely different now. He had a personality. He was more than a meathead Pogue like Rafe had said. Maybe you should stop listening to what Rafe and try to decide for yourself who JJ was.
When you returned to you table beside Sarah, the drinks where already there. You were confused. How did he get there before you?
"Took you long enough." Sarah joked as she sipped on her drink.
"Sorry." You sat down, confused. You looked at your drink, then at Sarah. "Who brought them here?"
She shrugged. "Some girl. She said that you had told her to hurry up. What did you say?"
You looked around for JJ. Finally, when your eyes found him, he was already looking at you. He smiled and gave you a small wave before walking away.
You smiled. You wanted to tell Sarah what happened and why JJ had made such an impression on you but you didn't get a chance.
Suddenly music came from the dance floor that had been decorated for this party. You looked to the dance floor were people had stared dancing and then you looked back to Sarah.
"Can for a dance?" You extended you hand out to her.
Sarah smirked. "Of course."
And so, as the sky turned to dark, you two danced.
~
You had been consecutively dancing for about an hour and your feet ached. You were wearing heels and although you were skilled in the art of wearing heels, you were completely overwhelmed by the aching. You had to stop.
You looked to Sarah, who was holding onto both of your hands as she swayed to the music. You smirked at her. She was a terrible dancer but her confidence made her seem like the best dancer ever.
Once you stopped moving in the middle of the song, Sarah noticed almost instantly and stopped along with you. She looked at you face and instantly knew.
She frowned. "Just until the end of this song."
You sighed, easily swayed when the music was so good. You nodded, swaying to the music again. Sarah picked up where she left off and you both smiled again. The song seemed to be in the middle so you only had to wait a few minutes. You trudged along, the soles of your feet aching so badly you chewed on the inside of your cheek to distract yourself.
"Hey, if you need to stop me can -" Sarah was about to stop but she was cut off by a tap on her shoulder.
A blond boy you now knew as JJ, danced beside Sarah. "Val?"
You frowned. Maybe he thought she was someone else and you thought that was true when you saw Sarah's face, who was confused for a moment.
"JJ?" She questioned and your eyes widened.
"What do you want?" You ask defensively. You wanted to keep up the impression you were still cautious around him.
JJ looks to you and perks up a little. You do the opposite. The other side of his face is badly bruised. You hadn't seen it before because of the darkness before, but now it was all you could see. It looks like he got punched over and over again. You suspected he probably got into another stupid fight. You almost felt sorry for him. The only way to boost his ego was for him to punch someone.
"Well, hello m'lady." He said, bowing.
You took a step back, bemused. As he bowed, he extended his hand for you to take. To indulge him, you grabbed it and he then stood up straight and pulled you close. One had rested, surprisingly, respectfully on your back and the other intertwined with your hand. You looked to Sarah, who was laughing. Your hand rested on his shoulder as you tried to contain your laughter.
"Madam, who you be so kind to get a note for Sarah out of my pocket for me?" JJ asked, swaying with you to the music.
You pulled away only enough to look at him the eyes. "Can't you do that yourself?"
He smirked. "Yes but I'd have to take my hand off your back and I don't wanna do that."
You rolled your eyes, swaying with him. Although he was a tad annoying, it was a comforting type of annoying. Your past presumptions of him yelled to you in your head about the gun and the fights but you quieted them. For this moment, he was being nice and you would look the other way. Maybe you had been wrong.
You nodded to him and reached to the back pocket on his pants and pulled out a note, handing it to Sarah.
Your hand soon returned to his shoulder as he smiled. "Thanks."
"Were you flexing your ass?" You laughed, shaking your head. You were embarrassed. Never had you done that but you couldn't help but laugh. JJ was one weird guy.
"Trying to impress you." He smirked, making you laugh. He then looked to Sarah and nodded at her. She was blushing so hard, and you were about to ask her what happened but she was already running off.
You looked to JJ. "What's going on?"
JJ leaned towards your ear as you swayed. You felt his lips touch your ear and you shivered. "She's meeting JB."
You smiled at JJ as he looked back at you. "I see. Star crossed lovers."
JJ shrugged his shoulders. "Didn't see the appeal of macking with a Kook but now," JJ says, looking you up and down. "I see the appeal."
You gasped and laughed, embarrassed again. "I'll slap you, I swear."
JJ smirked. "Please do."
You rolled you eyes. The next song had already started but you continued to dance. Your feet hurt no longer. "And why shouldn't I just smack you right now?"
JJ smirked. "Because I'm about to dip you and if you slapped me, I would drop you."
You shrugged. "Good enough."
And with that, he dipped you. You leaned your head back as he did and you felt the pressure of his hands on your back. You felt so secure. You knew he'd never drop you.
Once you came back up and looked at him again, you spoke. "I'm sorry for earlier."
JJ smiled. "Are you kidding? Probably the sexiest thing that's ever happened to me."
You rolled your eyes. "Really?"
JJ shrugged, continuing to sway. You had never felt like this. It felt as if you and JJ were the only two people on his dance floor. Not even with Rafe. This feeling was new and you didn't think you'd feel it with JJ. Someone who, before today, you never would've wanted to spend time with.
"So," he started as you continued to dance. "Have I impressed you?"
Before you could answer, you were pulled apart by two hands you recognized immediately. It was Rafe. Topper was right behind him, ready to fight. But this fight wasn't fair. It was two against one. How would JJ ever stand a chance?
"Rafe -" You started but Rafe silenced you by speaking over you to JJ.
"What're you doing dancing with my girlfriend?"
"Actually ex girlfriend." You corrected, standing between Rafe and JJ. "You have no right -"
"No right?" Rafe scoffed, his glance shifting to me now. "Until three hours ago I was your boyfriend and now you're grinding against this Pogue?"
You glare at Rafe. "Get away from me."
"Oh, I will." Rafe gritted through his teeth. As he spoke, his arm went around you and he tried to grab onto JJ's collar. JJ was quicker though and dodged his grasp.
"Run!" You yelled, turning around and pushing JJ our of the way.
JJ was fast. You were in heels so you weren't exactly the fastest person at this party but even as you ran, JJ was miles ahead of you. He looked back for a second, to see where you were and stopped to wait. You were surprised.
"C'mon." He said, grabbing onto your hand as you both ran into a closet and hid.
You heard Rafe and his goons tun down the same hallway you had just run down and they missed you completely. They were such idiots that they didn't even check the closet.
As you both caught your breath in the closet, you couldn't help but smile like an idiot. You had never felt so alive and you still couldn't believe you felt like this with JJ. He was the last person you ever thought could make you feel like this.
Soon, your dumb smile made JJ smile like an idiot and soon you both were smiling at each other. No longer did you guys have to catch your breath but you both still were breathing heavily. You were chest to chest and you were sure JJ could feel your heartbeat pick up.
He looked to your lips. "Why're you smiling?"
You shrugged. "Never done this."
JJ raised his brows. "What? You never ran from your ex with a boy you just met and ended up in a closet?"
You covered your mouth as you laughed. "You have?"
JJ shrugged, obviously joking. "Yeah, like five times."
You nodded, suppressing your smile. You were afraid if you smiled too much, your happiness would be taken away too quickly. You didn't want this to end. "With your rap sheet, I believe you."
JJ gasped, grabbing his chest again and falling an injury. "Another shot. I'm starting to think you're jealous."
You scoffed. "Jealous? No."
JJ raised his brows. "No?" His hand reached up from his sides and came to the hair in front of your face. He brushed it to the side and tucked it behind your ear. "Never thought about kissing me?"
Your smile was gone and replaced with butterflies. "Nope."
"I'm hurt." JJ confessed, fake frowning.
You smirked. "Why?"
"Because," JJ whispered, leaning forward. "I've thought about kissing you ever since you spoke to me for the first time."
Your breath hitched in your throat. His face was so close, his lips even closer. All you would have to do was lean forward and your lips would definitely meet. So, with a deep breath, you leaned forward to meet JJ's lips.
The second you kissed, you felt heat move through your entire body. JJ's hands came up to cup your face as your hands rested on his chest.
Your lips were on fire. For about the millionth time since you met him, he had proved you wrong. You were so glad he did. This kiss was like your favourite song. It was a beautiful sunset on a summer night. It was everything. You never kissed anyone like this. Whether it was adrenaline or the fact that he was someone you barely knew, this kiss was passionate. Your heart felt like his hands were around it. You didn't know how to act when this kiss would come to an end.
You angled you head so that your kiss would deepen. He tasted like mints and liquor and it tasted divine. You seriously couldn't get enough.
But sadly, you had to part. You needed to take a deep breath and you couldn't when his lips were on yours. You were the first to pull away and take a breath.
Once you did, JJ was the first to speak. "Um, wow."
You nodded, wiping your mouth. Your lipstick was definitely smudged. JJ saw your struggle and moved your hand to help. Except he didn't. Once he touched your lips again, your stomach dropped and you leaned to kiss him again. He instantly closed the space and kissed you again.
God, he was addictive. You definitely got it now. Sarah was right. The way Pogue boys kissed was so different from any Kook boy. Kook boys were careful and soft but JJ was the exact opposite. He was passionate but slow and everytime your tongues touched, you felt your stomach flip.
Finally, you both pulled away again. This time he actually helped you rub away your lipstick without kissing you.
"Wow." You said this time.
JJ nodded, catching his breath. He held onto his chest dramatically once more, making you giggle. "Who the fuck are you Y/N?"
You shrugged. Then, you remembered something. "You wanted to kiss me even when I was ripping your head off?"
JJ chuckled, shaking his head. "The first time I met you was when you smiled at me at the station."
You tried to remember that. Finally, you did. You were interviewing Sheriff Peterkin for the school newspaper and that's when JJ walked into her office. He plopped himself down as you said your goodbyes to Peterkin and you hadn't spoken to him at all. He had sarcastically waved goodbye to you and you genuinely smiled. You remember feel bad for him. You barely remembered his name but you saw him around school, always pissing someone off. You wondered why he wanted to kiss you then.
So, you asked. "Why'd you want to kiss me then?"
JJ rubbed his good eye and smiled at you. There was no arrogance under this smile, it was just pure happiness. "You smiled at me like I wasn't a delinquent like everyone else. You just saw me, a regular person."
You were so surprised. You hadn't thought anything of it and never thought of that day again. Until right now. How could JJ remember that?
"I'm surprised you remembered that." You confessed, grabbing ahold of JJ's hand.
JJ smirked. "If you ever tell anyone that, I'll embarrass you."
You giggled. "How?"
"I'll tell everyone you kissed me." JJ joked, squeezing my hand.
"That's not embarrassing." You gave JJ a fake frown, suppressing a smile. "Tell them I once peed my pants in ninth grade."
JJ cackled as you said this. Scared we'd be found, you covered his mouth. "Don't."
It was too late. Someone had heard you and JJ.
Only seconds later, someone opened the closet door. You squeezed JJ's hand to brace yourselves for Rafe but instead it was another waiter. He looked disappointed but not surprised.
"You gotta get out of there." He deadpanned, making way for you to leave.
JJ exited first, you following him shortly after. After you exited, he let go of your hand and looked to you. You were standing in a hallway now and you were too busy looking out to see if Rafe and his goons were around, you didn't realize he was trying to get your attention.
"Y/N." He said, finally getting your attention. Once you looked to him, he spoke. "You wanna pretend like this never happened?"
Your heart sank. Maybe you were wrong in giving him the benefit of the doubt. You sure decided to be honest. You never wanted to go back to never knowing JJ Maybank.
You shook your head. "Do you?"
JJ smiled. "No."
You both just stood there and smiled at each other for a moment. You were just content in being together. You wondered that maybe this is how relationships were supposed to be; easy. It seemed so easy with JJ.
After a long period of silence, JJ leaned forward and kissed you once more. As you pulled away, he spoke."I should go. Don't wanna get my ass handed to me by those goons."
You laughed, shaking your head at him. "I'll see you around then?"
JJ shrugged. "Let's just say, I forgot my keys in Sarah's closet and I'll come by tomorrow at three to get them. If you're there, then I'll see you then."
You shook your head, smiling so wide. "I'll see if I can make it."
JJ nodded and then let you go, making his way farther and farther away from you. At first, you watched you as he walked but when he got to the door, leading him in the opposite direction of the party, he turned around and opened the front door of Sarah's home. Then, JJ was gone. He was gone before you could even say goodbye.
But you knew its wasn't goodbye. This was just the beginning.
