Hihihi I saw this and wanted to add my own opinion to what Silas is saying, since I felt like some stuff might need a second opinion.

If you think constructive criticism on how to handle a harmless awards thing is, taking it "WAY too seriously", that can say a lot. This isn't meant to be an insult, but if you compare a small community like JWCC/CT to a massive one like K-pop, you're gonna get widely different responses to 'popularity contests'.

You say that it shouldn't be taken too seriously because it's just words and a png, and while that should probably be the case - you don't acknowledge the younger, and smaller creators that might find these awards to be pretty encouraging. This is a fandom around a kids show, and many people forget that kids interact with this. Nothing wrong with keeping yourself in adult circles, but it shouldn't be forgotten how starry-eyed kids can get at the idea of being recognised and not getting that png of a star. (Screw you Mr. Munday I deserved that gold sticker for my maths work)

I think you brushed past the multiple voting section of Sparks criticism too quickly. "Shit happens", sure, of course it does! That excuse can be used for a YouTubers fan base attacking someone, even if they advise against it. But when the option to make it a one vote form was available, it seems like a massive oversight. No hate to Salem on this! I get it, forms like these can be hard to manage, but there should've been some preparation before starting this award.

You can try and have faith in the fandom all you want, I know I do, but you can never be too sure about that stuff. There are people out here shipping a queer woman with a white man, and people denouncing the sapphic couple, I think it's safe to be weary of SOME bad apples.

Now for the main issue that I guess seems to have caused this (?), the topic of rarepairs and just oc x canon. Rarepairs are canon x canon, and aren't oc x canon in my opinion. I don't see my oc x canon ships as rare pairs, and if I did hell I'd be the mayor of rarepairville because I haven't shown anyone them before! /Lh.

Also I think you might've gotten rarepairs and crackships confused. I was aware of all this Elsa x Jack nonsense, and I can tell you those were not at ALL unpopular. That's what makes a rarepair, it needs to be really unpopular. Crackships definitely can fall under the rarepair term, but they are not a good example for this.

We could be here all day debating on our opinions, because really that's all they are! You see them as rarepairs and I don't, that's the joy of freewill in the human race, and we should cherish it. (I use debating, not arguing, because we're just talking things out).

We can all look at this and hopefully move past it, and in the future if another awards happens or something, we can add oc x canon in a separate category!

It may not be serious, but you don't know a person's thoughts about these until you ask them. It's not serious to me, I've been in fandom spaces for almost half my life; but to a new person it could mean the entire world to them - and those are mostly kids. And if it's anything, it's our responsibility as adults to be nice to them. Young kids or older kids, it doesn't matter.

Telling people to "sit back" because they're unhappy isn't good advice. If you take into account what I said about kids being the ones to take this seriously, they aren't thinking about what people are losing in these awards. A shout-out can boost a small creator MASSIVELY. YouTube is a massive example of that being true.

-Character assassination. We are all doing our best here to have a good time with Arcane AUs and interactions, even if all of our characters are basically OCs at this point. But please put in an effort to actually understand the character you are playing, and at the very least finish watching the show. If your character gets reduced to stereotypes and basic shipping fodder, I'm not making a callout post because it's not that serious, but I am gonna avoid interacting with you. The warning has been made.

As for OCs...

-DO NOT BASTARDIZE PRE-EXISTING LORE. This one should go without saying, but if you want to include an OC in this story, or make up a headcanon for a character... Make sure it makes at least some sense?

Scar's partner is a great example of this being done right! There is room to do basically whatever you want with the other parent to Scar's baby, and it's especially nuanced in this AU since his original partner full on died, and the one we're interacting with is an alternate version that causes no conflict with either Arcane lore or our own writing.

But if you want to make your character be Jinx's long lost sister who is also the biological daughter of Vander and Cassandra Kiramman having an affair who also has Warwick powers and Shimmer and Hextech built into them and also can bypass time travel..... You better have an EXTREMELY good explanation for all of that if you'd like me to engage with that🙏

Hello! Mod here, and I'm going to give you some more insight on how the heck this man is alive!:

This is an AU, if that wasn't obvious. In said AU, he still sang Hold Him Down, but, instead of HIM being shot in the throat by Ody, Eurymachus takes the shot for him. Somehow, Antinous managed to get away from the palace, and took a ship out into the sea. (He literally just ran off.)

He later returns (which will be shown within an open starter. With a specific time that he's been gone for.)

Nothing NSFW! Sure, suggestive things, that's probably gonna be fine most of the time. I mean, it's Antinous, right lol?

Thank you so much Fran ( @ghost-askblog ), and of course. Everyone will be notified once we come up with a solution and compromise of some sort.

As of right now, we're planning on doing a mass Voice Call, or Meeting of some sorts with Canonical characters only (As we are a much smaller portion of the Ask Blogs) and then we'll open the table discussion to Canonical Characters AND OC blogs as well.

After that, I'll be posting on my blog, and I'm sure @backseatsoldier and @scaredyspooks will be posting on their accounts as well about what we have all decided to do going forward and the organization/structure we've all decided upon as a community.

I would suggest that no new ask blogs be made until we can see who will be coming back, who will not, and what we decide moving forward.

I am aiming for a more organized structure that will benefit everyone, and include every ask blog that is here so far and ones we get in the future. I feel this is going to be everyone's outlook on this. We want more blogs to get the same amount of traction as the rest of us, and we want our community to be a welcoming, and kind space. There is also going to be the subject of safety, including internet safety, and what we are going to do with hatemail for future reference.

Again, thank you to Fran for the wonderful idea that sparked new life into the community, and for the hard work they have put in to make this work. Thank you to the wonderful CC's, who have welcomed everyone with open arms. Thank you to @scaredyspooks and @backseatsoldier for the help, and the opening of your arms to the Discord server. Thank you to @ask-phillip-graves who has welcomed me personally with open arms, and everyone else who I cannot possibly fit into this post.

Most of all, thank you to the consumers of our content who are patiently waiting to see where we go from here and have supported and interacted with our blogs. We genuinely wouldn't have had as great of a time if you weren't regularly engaging with us and even going so far as to make your own blogs to become a part of this wonderful community we've created.

i am going to reopen my ask box and i'll be going through each and every ask i receive but i will not be replying to any until further notice.

i would also like to thank @ask-philgraves for taking charge during this super overstimulating situation in ways i definitely couldn't. you forever have my love and gratitude <3

i took the offer to join a discord voice call with a few other more notable accounts to discuss the matter and try and come up with a solution with much consideration but as much as i feel i should also have a say in the matter i'm going to have to decline due to personal reasons i won't get into.

(i also suffer from severe online social anxiety which feeds a big factor into my decline )

I wasn't really expecting Noir would make it to the (Second-Chance) Finals alongside greats like Valfrey, but since we're here...

...I actually had previously written up responses to Valfrey's Honor Tier for Noir! And what better time to post them than now?

(Tagging @gethoce if interested in looking at this down the line, but seriously no pressure to respond back! I imagine you're busy with lots of things!)

One must live their life for a purpose such as serving a shogun or protecting one's people.

Noir's life was dedicated to making sure his little sister Adeleine had everything it was within his power to give her and also to protect her from physical and mental harm, making sure she never suffered the way he did. He did this admirably, though at great cost to himself.

If left without a purpose one must make it their mission to find one.

...However, after saving her and dying (and dying twice more as Dark Matter) he has felt completely and utterly lost. A puppet to fate. Noir has stopped dreaming. Stopped hoping...

Be the Master of one's emotions, yet do not rob yourself of your whimsy for it'd poison your mind.

Though he tries to deny it, Noir's actually kept his sense of wry humor despite all that he's been through and was a decidedly fun (!) big brother for both Adeleine and Gooey! While he was alive, he was pretty experienced at controlling how much what he felt inside showed on the outside. But after his experiences with Dark Matter, he's lost a lot of his defenses to his own emotional pain...

Always be honest

Ohohoho! 

...No. Never. Noir has lied (albeit, they were white lies) through his teeth nearly every day of his life. About their family. About their world. About their chances. About his chances...

Do not steal unless it is to protect the weak

Every crime he committed was (at least in his mind) for her.

Do not sneak attack when a fair battle is possible

Sneak attacks were Noir's modus operandi! Why give his targets a chance to fight back or run when you can summon a sword in their back without his victims even getting to see what killed them...?

There is no honour in being outnumbered, use usually unfair tactics to even the playing field

Hmm. He felt outnumbered by the world. Does that count? XD

Though, interestingly enough, as Dark Matter Swordsman, he showed a degree of bushido (!) that the frightened human teen could never quite manage, outside of the realm of his fantasy stories. If either forms of Noir were outnumbered by strong opponents, their self-sacrificial nature would probably shine through...

Respect yourself, keep yourself healthy and well groomed

LMAO! Yeah, no... Noir does NOT respect his body (not after effectively "selling" it for what he believed would be Adeleine's safety) and generally finds it weak, painful, and a nuisance. He routinely sacrifices food and sleep for his little sister. He also insists on wearing that ugly scarf (/lh) everywhere, so probably not well-groomed?

Stay true to your principles

In the main storyline, at least, Noir never faltered. His name means "unstoppable" in his native language and he was always relentless in whatever he did. When deeply under the sway of the Dark Matter Blade, he did waver, but on his own, he stays true.

Do not slaughter your own kin unless they strike first

...Raquelle was family. She could have even been��MORE than that to you, one day... But...she was never going to hurt you. You know that, right...? She was the only one who realized how much you'd been hurt. And just LOOK at what you did to her... Murderer...

Take vengeance on those who have wronged you or your kin

...They will never find the bodies. And in a few special cases, that's probably a good thing. The world without Noir is at least a world free of anyone who hurt him or what remained of his family.

Be polite and respectful to those who deserve it

Eh~h, Noir's kind of a sassy, perpetually pessimistic brat. XD He was raised with good manners but lashes out with a sharp tongue and rejection as a defensive mechanism. And even then, he'll still put his foot in his mouth, even to those who have been nothing but kind to him! (He might regret it, but he can't help himself now.)

If one serves a clan or leader that disrespects them or otherwise goes against their principles, they no longer deserve to be named kin

Both he and Raquelle forswore Raquelle's father as "family" after what he did to Noir. And he only ever served Zero via amnesia, brainwashing, or being physically puppeted. Even then, his soul remained in rebellion, praying for the abomination's defeat...

Do not disrespect Valfrey

Hohoho... Noir's actually got a huge soft side for living creatures in general and a lot of respect (or maybe awe? fear?) toward the concept of death, having grown up surrounded by it.

...HOWEVER, all this only stands if he doesn't open his stupid mouth around her. When it comes to one-on-one conversations, he almost unfailingly dooms himself in one way or another.

And there we go. Noir's got some positive qualities in this regard, but I feel like there is a definite lean toward the negative in him. Then again, being damned is kinda Noir's brand. ^_-

Something about Kenix comforting Sora the day she joined the sins crew while she was full on crying and confused at everything surrounding her. Something about him Resonating with a child's helplessness, offer a warm embrace to hold onto. Did you see your own past self in that girl? The days where you were left all alone in the dark, being able to only weep and wonder why everything around you was like this. Yet you had no one's shoulder to cry onto. You had no one by your side, and now you have decided to be that someone for an another lost kid. Have you seen your own desperation in that child, wanting to help her because deep down you know how scarring this situation is for her? To seek comfort despite the unknown environment, because you wanted someone to let you know it is safe?

Have you wanted to save someone from what you had to endure yourself because you just knew how deeply terrifying it must all be to experience such loneliness at a young age? Have you just wanted to not let someone else go through what you had to? Have you just wanted to show the lost child that compassion that you didn't get yourself when you needed it the most.

I've been trying to figure out a dynamic between neve and rye that I find more compelling, because right now there's not much of anything there for me to sink my little teeth into. but I think I've landed on something delicious with the idea that especially after minrathous gets fucked, rye looks at neve and sees myrna -- someone he feels he keeps letting down horribly no matter how hard he tries not to and can't quite achieve the approval of/connection with that he wishes so it's better to just pull away completely and disengage rather than stay in that unshifting shame. neve is (very understandably) measured and distant with him after what happened, and he's flashing back to his student days of myrna gazing at the perpetually hungover heartbroken heap of a person of him on the other side of her desk every time he missed the deadline of a paper or project like '...can we at least both agree that this is. a bit disappointing. especially considering your potential.' (and him all smudged black eyeshadow and numb ruefulness being like 'sure that's a very kind way to put it myrna thank you'.)

aside from the 'if I let him get too deeply into this he'll go the way of brom and it'll be all my fault (again)' element, neve thinks rye is dismissing her and her city/being a bit callous in the same way he was after varric's death (listen. how fucking wild must rook's reaction to losing a beloved mentor seem to the rest of the crew who aren't seeing the blood magic paper doll ghost varric the whole time, especially those who got to see them interact. you WOULD think 'there's something wrong with this guy. putting the job first is one thing just not seeming to react at all is another this is fucking freaky', wouldn't you, especially after seeing the warmth in that dynamic in action beforehand.) perfect storm of two people who grit their teeth and turn inwards in pain deciding that not talking about it is their best bet (NEWSFLASH: IT ISN'T) lmao

(rye spent his last year of watcher training on a mostly joyless bender and then got it together enough to finish the eternal orb project last moment in a fevered near-sleepless week instead of the half a year that was intended. emmrich is both astounded and distressed to hear this. "a week? but -- but that is an astounding accomplishment rook!! and also why in the maker's good light would you ever do that to yourself?" ("well you see there was no one to stop me from doing it like that but me. and under those conditions these things tend to happen".) rye was working through/looking up stuff around transitioning and doing every kind of OTHER high level watcher research through that whole time, but ultimately he's an excellent watcher and a terrible student, at least under traditional methods. adhd from here to the fucking moon. touched by something akin to divine inspiration in moments of high tension that pulls all the threads into one coherent unbreakable cord, a bit of a frayed mess in most other settings. in our world he'd be dropping out of a masters program at the very last hurdle in this moment maker bless and protect him)
