WTF IT'S DECEMBER ALREADY??? this year has flown by.... seriously what the hell.

okay well anyway. so... nanowrimo was a bit of a bust for me. i hadn't really expected to reach 50k, but i had hoped to get a biiiit more done. unfortunately the second half of the month was...not fun for me, so my motivation really tanked.

however! my more important goal this month was to just enjoy writing again since i'd been feeling quite burned out—and i would say i did succeed at that. i started planning a new wip which i'm really excited about, plus i got to rewrite one of my fave arcs of my ya sci-fi book which i had a lot of fun with!! so in that way, i would say i had a successful month and i am feeling a lot more motivated now. :)

that said...i do still have a good chunk of my book left to rewrite. i was really hoping to finish by the end of the year and now of course i only half one more month to do that. *gulps* but, by my calculations, i think i have about 30k left to rewrite aka about 1k per day which is not toooo bad—and if i succeed at that, i should also be able to reach my yearly word count goal. so i am gonna try!!

as has been the case for a long time, i've neglected fic a lot lately and i miss it. :( i did at least wanna go back to revising the last chapter of sylvix dreamscape fic and maybe pass that along to betas by end of december. aaand maybe work on writing/editing some of my other fics if i have time??? but my book is my big priority right now... i'm hoping once i finish this draft, i'll have more time to return to fic again.

so yeah, last month of 2023 I'M GONNA MAKE IT COUNT!!!!

Camp NaNo April 2023: Day 6 Wrap Up

General feelings: I think jumping in and expecting to put out 50k in a month when I'm just getting back into this was naive.

I think realistically, I'll maybe hit 25k - 30k by the end of the month - and that's fantastic! That's still more of the story written than I had at the start. But it's definitely not realistic for me to be pumping out 2k words every single day, especially with work and other projects going on (I'm part of a cookbook project, I have 2 writing commissions right now with a third on the horizon, and I'm working on some fanfiction as well).

So I'm just gonna commit to writing a little bit each day (I wrote 800 words today - twice as much as Terry Pratchett's 400 words per day!). As long as it's a nonzero day, I'll be content.

Frustrated, [Tara] dropped the flint and steel at her feet. Her fingers itched, growing warm. She glanced at her hand, then slowly held out her palm. She channeled energy into it, and before she knew it, she had conjured a spark. She let it fall from her hand to the tinder, and it caught, producing a whiff of smoke. Excited, Tara watched it, waiting for it to spread to the remaining wood. But the smoke faded, and she was left back where she started.

Glaring at the wood, she summoned more energy. A plume of fire shot from her hand to the wood, instantly incinerating it. Tara yelped and fell back, wondering how she was going to explain this.

Lia looked over from her finishing spot. “What in the gods-” She propped her pole against a rock. “What happened?”

“I tried to start the fire,” Tara said. “It didn’t go well.”

So, uh, I fell off the active Critical Role train around the start of campaign 3 for time and interest reasons, but this post struck me. Mostly because Critical Role is usually out at the front of speaking out about these kinds of things, and while twitter's current situationship leaves me uncertain how to verify the hidden replies, the group's general observable silence on this front was...unnerving, to say the least.

That being said, I went to dig and confirm and can offer an update now!

About 10 hours ago the Critical Role Foundation posted this on their Twitter (if I linked wrong it's the pinned tweet), stating that they have donated $25k each to WC Kitchen and Save the Children, specifically to support humanitarian aid in Gaza. They also called for a ceasefire. As far as I can find, they have not updated the Foundation's website to indicate whether this will be an ongoing project.

The phrasing on the tweet acknowledges fan messaging in a way that implies this could be a direct response to the backlash, but. Well. If it is, then this is still essentially exactly what you'd want as a response to backlash, right?

I'll leave it up to individual personal opinion whether this is a "better late than never" or a "too little too late" situation. I just figured people who aren't on the foundation's twitter might like an update - and regardless of whether you want to continue supporting Critical Role, I think we can all agree 50k to aid is just generally good news right now. (And also, if this was a response to backlash, it suggests fan pressure to make this an ongoing project might also be heeded, which I think we can also all agree would be good news)

What I’m working on: The Adventures of Plum & Cat

Woo! Today I’m very happy to announce that I’ve hit the halfway point for my goal wc! Only 25k more words to go!!

Well, maybe not exactly 25k more words, as I’m sort of expecting this project to go over 50k words in its first draft, and I’d ideally like to have a completed first draft by the end of the month. Which means I’ll probably end up writing more than 50k at the end of the day, but that’s fine. I knew what can of worms I was opening when I started working on this project.

To anyone who’s sent me an ask in the past month or so, and also happens to be reading this, I’m going to try to get the your ask at some point before the end of the month. I promise. I’ll actually even go one step further as to say that I’ll try to get to your ask within the next week or so, but that’s a lot more tentative of a promise than my first one was.

Until tomorrow night, I’ve got work to do.

Speaking of the woods, she could almost swear she remembered hearing something about them at one point. Something she couldn’t help but think was meant to be important. Yet, for whatever reason she couldn’t quite remember what it was she had heard.

It must not be that important, she figured. If she couldn’t even remember it. Yet, for some reason the feeling just kept on nagging at her as they walked along.

The feeling made her uneasy, as she looked around and found nothing even remotely familiar about her surroundings. She’d never really been in woods like these before.

Their parents had never been the overly outdoorsy type, and they had always just sort of followed suit. So, this was really pretty unfamiliar territory to her, and it filled her with a sense of growing dread as she realized she had no idea which way they were going, or even how to get back to where they came from.

She couldn’t admit that to Cat though, not when it would only make him start to panic as well, and she figured at least one of them needed to keep a level head. Stepping around trees and over roots, she tried to calm herself back down. This was fine, it only felt so scary because it was dark. As soon as morning came, she’d be able to see better, and everything would be just fine.

This wasn’t like a fairytale, after all. Where the woods were home to wicked witches or giant wolves, these were just normal old run of the mill woods. And she was going to be fine. They both were.

The effect of her thoughts grew a little weaker when the flashlight began to flicker.

Faintly, she could hear her brother grumbling as he whacked the flashlight against his palm. She, however, was a little distracted by something else.

She hadn’t seen it before the flashlight, and couldn’t see it while the flashlight was shining forwards, but with the flashlight turned away from her she could see it now, perfectly clear. The two glowing dots off in the distance. Staring right back at her.

It was then, with perfect clarity, that she remembered what Aunt Rue had made them promise. She had said to never go into the woods, no matter what.

yeah, for sure! this is such a fun question! there are a few I'm keeping a secret for now just as far as birthdays and holidays go but I'd be happy to go over some of the ones I've got almost finished! (I have over 25 wips but you can find some of them here!) thank you for asking!

this one (if I can find the time to finish it!) is set to come out sometime in October so hopefully soon! louis is the brains, harry’s the charm, liam’s the muscle, and niall drives the getaway car. zayn makes an appearance as well :) I've never written anything quite like this before and I'm super excited to see if ya’ll like it! it’s not enemies to lovers since they’re all super close friends but each character has a bit of a backstory that tangles them all together! 

#2. look after you iii  posting: ?? 2020 | estimated wc: 50k | b!L

this series has been one of my favorites to write and I love these characters so so much. the first and second book were past and present, and this third one will be about the future. it’s got adoption and married life and fluff and angst and allllll of the kinkiness from the others as well! this one’s important to me because I was adopted as well and I've seldom seen that as a big theme in fics. it won’t be for everyone but I'm hoping it resonates with some of you! 

#3. the blff’s  posting: nov. - dec. 2020 | estimated wc’s: 40k & 30k | b!L

this is the first year that I've gotten to participate in the blff and I’m so excited!! I absolutely adore both of my prompts (#411 and #322) and I hope to do the prompters justice! #411 is the smoking one that I just recently posted a snippet from and everyone seems to be very excited for it! harry’s a psych major and decides to help Louis get over his oral fixation with something else ;) featuring roommates and best friends to lovers! #322 is a dom/sub prompt where Louis��� nervous after being matched with a younger dom (harry) but of course he goes above and beyond his expectations. that one has been so so interesting to write because I really dived deep into the dynamic. I can’t wait to see what everyone else puts out for the fest as well! 

#4. stem major louis posting: ?? 2020 | estimated wc: 45k | b!L

this is an idea I had that I've been working on off and on for nearly a year now. it’s stem major Louis who’s dedicated his entire studies to proving that love doesn’t exist. enter philosophy major harry. lots of nerdy conjecture and debate etc.. I've really enjoyed doing the research for this one! definitely some enemies to lovers vibes as well ;) 

#5. sitcom au  posting: 2021 | estimated wc: 50k - 100k | b!L

I am sooooooooo excited about this one. it’s a friends-esque setting with the cast members as the five boys. the storyline follows all of them (but mainly h&l) as they film all of the seasons of the show and also navigate their own lives and trauma and healing. I don’t want to give too much away but there are some enemies to lovers elements... kind of... as well as angst and character development and the works. but also just a lot of friendship and growing up and all of that good stuff! I like to write things I feel like I can relate to and this one has just been an endless source of happiness for me recently. I can’t wait for you guys to read it! 

and then for some that I have in my list to write but haven’t gotten around to yet: 

#1. modern day fairytales 

I'm obsessed with the idea of taking fairytales and twisting them to fit realistically into today’s society. I think a series on each of the classic fairytales (beauty and the beast, the little mermaid, etc.) could be really really cool! 

#2. ghost writer Louis 

Louis is someone’s ghost writer traveling with them as a friend even though no one’s supposed to know that he’s actually writing the songs for the artist. harry’s the opening act on tour with them and is Louis’ secret muse, but things get confusing when harry thinks it’s the artist that’s writing the songs so clearly directed toward him. cue angst and pining and all of that good stuff. 

#3. grease au

loosely inspired grease au with a twist! harry is excited to see him at school after their summer of romance but louis thinks he’s too good for harry.  (preppy louis vs ‘wrong side of tracks’ harry). 

#4. until marriage fic 

Louis wants to wait until marriage to have sex. harry comes up with some clever ways to circumvent this plan. 

#5. PWP’s & drabbles 

there are a TON of these on my list, including but not limited to:  gentle dentist harry x nervous louis | sunflower farmer harry x tourist louis | louis with chronic hiccups x annoyed at first but then endeared harry | bookshop owner louis x bibliophile harry | proposal drabble inspired by ross’ dream proposal from friends at the planetarium (scientist harry) | bdsm club voyeurism drabble | and more! (I'm always taking suggestions!)

Hi dear nonie!

As most of you probably know, @averysterekfall​ starts tomorrow! I only have a short fluffy thing for this one. So my favorite scene in it is, well, all of it because there isn’t any other scene 😆 You won’t have to wait long to get this one, it’s coming out tomorrow (if I managed to wrap it up quickly enough, if not, it’s coming Sunday).

I have another project which is probably the next thing I’m going to work on because I’m quite excited about it. It’s hopefully going to feel a little transcendentalist. I have written nothing yet but the story is brewing in me and I know it’s on its way to come out.

 Nothing very precise yet, but the aesthetic of it is coming alive and it’s going to eat my brain if I don’t write it. (yes my writing process is very very weird). It’s probably going to fit for the Winter Fest in january, because there’s a lot of nature vibe to it and feels chilly? This probably doesn’t make any sense outside of my brain but there you go, welcome to the mess. The way I feel it now as it’s brewing is probably a 20k+? I have that same feeling as when  Not A Normal Flavor (23k) was brewing so I kind of expect it to come out the same way.

 Unless I make it happen super quickly and decide to publish it for something else *side-eyes 12 Days of Sterek even though I haven’t signed up (yet)*  or just by itself, you can expect this in January.

I do have another project which is known as my crazy complex thing.  It isn’t on a deadline or anything and as of now doesn’t fit the idea of making it winter-y for the Winter Fest. So it’s just a thing from me to you if it ever comes to life. 

Obviously my favorite scene in it is the moment Derek realizes his connection to Stiles, and you know how sometimes a story is born from that one scene you have in your head, that’s the scene. The scene has a crazy complex backstory though so that’s why it spun out of control.

 I’m not spoiling more than that because it is a crazy complex thing so a little hard to explain. It will most definitely have a projected word count of 50k+ (100k+ if we believe @dearericbittle​ but admittedly, Iris’ writing style is way more wordy than mine, right? I mean, nonie please be on my side on this, 100k is way too scary. And there’s just no way because it’s in Derek’s POV. I like to think of it as a 30k+ which will turn into a 50k+ just like that. Have you read Outrun The Stars ? That’s how it happened, I had planned a 25k, it turned into a 56k because scenes kept coming. I need it to not be too scary going in or i’m going to have too much anxiety to write it especially since there’s a lot of nuances in the emotions I need to get right.

That’s definitely enough to keep me busy for a while, especially since real life is a pain of obligations right now so you know, just trying to get back to something slow and steady in the writing department. I’m just happy writer’s block doesn’t seem to be coming back. Maybe I’m really cured of it and should stop expecting to see its ugly face at my door? idk

(Vol. 1) The Defective Deviant (angst, whump, hurt/comfort - a LOT of characters, Connor/Markus/Angst). Chapter 84/84, wc 613k. The free androids of Detroit start building their brand-new future, but peace is only relative in the troubled times that follow a revolution. Connor in particular has to learn to live with the guilt and horror that are slowly crushing him, and making friends isn’t easy with a past as murderous as his.

Long story (objective: 50k-100k words): AUs: - Pigments and Solvents (fluff/angst, humor, very gay - Connor/Markus, Chloe/North, Josh/Nines - College AU). Chapter 27/?, wc 84k. [last update: 25/09/2021] Markus is a flirty airheaded art student and Connor a very repressed science student and they end up tutoring each other. - Lucky Dog (angst, whump, sexual tension - Connor/Markus - Mob AU). Chapter 9/?, wc 32k. [last update: 18/06/2021] Connor is a henchman from a rival organization forced to join Jericho, and Markus has a great time tormenting him as the head of the group.
