Javier/Arthur Headcanons

A/N: For Kinktober: size difference, but these are all SFW. Also Javier is being... his weird little self. See what I did there? Content Warning: Malnutrition mentions.

Arthur is a full head taller than Javier and built thicker in general, so there's a noticeable size difference between them. Javier is on the brighter side of it now, but he was light as a damp rag when Dutch took him in.

For his part, Arthur doesn't think on it much. He's always thought of himself of clumsy and pins Javier as graceful, when really there's not much of a disparity as there is a difference in skill sets. Most of the time, it's an issue of Arthur being too stuck in his head -- especially once he's sweet on someone, it makes him self conscious to even exist around them. He'll have to bump it down to Four Finger Filet pretty soon.

Javier, however, has a few feelings about it. There is nothing heterosexual going through his brain, in fact, because Arthur is the kind of masculinity that drives artists to sculpt. The first time he expressed that thought, Arthur tried to act nonchalant and then stuttered through every sentence until he successfully got Javier talking about something else and went quiet.

Arthur's hands are double Javier's in both size and thickness, years of muscle versus the aftermath of severe malnutrition in his own; both just as scarred and sun-beaten, their knuckles forming arthritis and the veins fat with lack of water, hair dusting the fingers. Arthur tends to prefer encasing Javier's hands in his rather than holding hands and Javier does not mind it.

There's a certain safety in it. Being scrawny does few favors in their life, and before Dutch's gang, Javier wasn't too acquainted with the idea of brotherhoods. At first, there were many taunts about how easily he could kill Arthur, reassurances mainly for himself that stopped when he no longer felt like a threat. Some resurfaced when they begin fooling around, but those root fears were eased with-- well, as heartfelt of a conversation as two emotionally constipated fools can have. Nowadays, he can see the advantage in being something a man like Arthur wants to protect.

And Arthur wants to protect everything he loves. Most of his feelings on the size difference are just that. He knows Javier is perfectly capable of surviving same as he did before Arthur, but he's screwed up one too many times. Being able to offer something more, in any capacity, is soothing to him.

When the day is done, and for little reason beyond Arthur making a good mattress, he likes that Javier curls up beside or on top of him. It's the same reason he enjoys covering his hands in his, or holding Javier's face which fits so perfectly into his palms: he feels strong in a way that is nonviolent, feels like he is doing what good men do and using his power for loving.
