Based on Chapt 13 of @cutebutalsostabby ‘s fanfic “Big Oof 2022, aka Whumptober”
“‘You,’ Hyrule declared furiously, ‘are an absolute, complete dumbass.’
Lying prone on the ground with a deeply pissed-off mage looming above his head, it was rather difficult for Warriors to argue the point. He gave a weak thumbs up and croaked back, ‘Yep.’
Hyrule shook his head disbelievingly and announced, ‘You and Legend give me shit for this all the time, but you’re both equally as bad.’
Warriors nodded. ‘Very true,’ he rasped peaceably. ‘Be sure to learn from our bad examples.’”

Hyrule and Warrior’s dynamic is so excellent and few do it as well as this fic!

I painted a Doberman named Wicked in watercolors!
Want a pet portrait done? My commissions are open!
I figured out a new technique with my watercolor brushes to make more realistic short/fine hairs. I am absolutely in love with this painting, I think it may be my best so far.
Tumblr media
About my process:
So usually I’d use a cut up acrylic brush to get an uneven/jagged texture that creates strokes resembling when used to paint. This is great with long haired animals if they have flowing hair. With short haired dogs it doesn’t work as well because of the hundreds (thousands?) of tiny little strokes required to get the texture right. This time I used an actual watercolor brush (a smaller round brush) and would flick any excess water off so it was mostly dry (but with pigment) and splayed out kind of wildly (more or less depending on how sparse or heavy/dark I needed the hair to be in each area) I primarily used a Windsor & Newton Series-7 size 3 (finest sable). The paper is 9x12. Adjust your brush sizing accordingly. I used a white gel pen for corrections. Often it’s too bright for a particular area on a darker dog so I’ll often rub it in with my fingers to soften the contrast!

And for those who don't know, you can't get magenta by mixing. You'll need to buy it.
Edit: Quick observation, this advice is for mixing paints and pigments, other mediums have different color specifications.

How to transfer sketches to watercolor paper
Ever created a drawing you really love, then decided that you wanted to paint it in watercolor (or transfer it to another type of paper)? Or maybe you just want to avoid smudges on your good paper? Or transfer a digital sketch onto paper?
This tutorial will help!
Start with a sketch on plain cheap copy or sketch paper (print if you need to, or photocopy your original sketch if you don't want to ruin it).
Tumblr media
Next, flip the paper over (so you're looking at the blank side) and put it on a lightbox. Don't have one? No worries! Hold it up to a window, or put it on your iPad screen at max brightness.
Now, take an (ideally HB non-mechanical) graphite pencil and scribble all over the lines shining through, until it looks like a messy copy of your original sketch.
(First image is of just the graphite back, second is of the corner flipped so you can see the original sketch too)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, attach it to your nice paper graphite side down. Use tape on two corners (so it stays in place, but you can peel up the other corners to check it).
Tips for easily released tape: Cut the tape to your desired length and put it on fabric, like your pants, and pull it off. Repeat a few times. The oils from your fingers plus the fibers will make it less sticky!
Tumblr media
Now, trace the original side of your sketch with a ball point pen! You need a very sharp tip and to be able to see where you’ve drawn, so definitely use a ball point pen for this. Use firm pressure!! (Your hand will probably be sore if you do this all at once). Make sure you’re on a hard surface, too.
Tip: start in a corner you can flip to check, and make sure it's transferring properly. If not, add more/a softer graphite to the back and/or press harder.
When you're done, you'll have a light but visible pencil guide to paint right over!

I couldn't sleep last night my head hurts 🥲 (no I'm not stressed just drank too much milk tea yesterday haha...BUT I LOVE MILK TEA DAMN IT!)
So here you are my watercolor process for "Sun Light" as promised ~~
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1 - Sketches: This is already the clean sketch. Before that I need to take in-game screenshots ⬇️⬇️ & brainstorm the characters and their poses in a separate sketchbook. I mostly use colored mechanical pencils for clean sketches because don't smudge much compared to graphite ones.
Tumblr media
2 - Color the base: I started with painting a base color layer, using wet-on-wet technique and mixed a generous amount of water with yellow for the large area, light blue for the serpent and green for Seb & Omi uniform. Here I also use less paint for the sun light area. 3 - Use more color on darker areas: When painting I always try to think how the light source interacts with the characters and objects, and use thicker/darker color on areas that not exposed to the light. I have to wait for the first layer to be completely dry, and from now I use wet-on-dry technique otherwise the color will be blended everywhere.
4 - Add more layers: Here I just added more layers, with intense colors for details, pattern and shadows. I think the basic of watercolor is "applying layers" (sounds like digital but kinda different haha).
Step 4: finish all the details and lines.
5 - Line works : Once I am finished with the color I moved on to lining. I used my 0.5 brush with black color for the window (since the frame is also black in game) and other details with matching color but darker tone.
6 - Finishing touch: Here I'm almost done with everything, for the finishing touch I decided to add more highlights using white watercolor (white gel pen is also ok) on small areas where the light touches the characters.
.
I think I'll have to make another painting process sharing since this was done in a rush and the photos I took were terrible 😭😭 If anyone have any tips please feel free to share I WOULD BE VERY HAPPY TO KNOW oh and my ask box is still open 😭❤️❤️

I have been making some posable insect themed dragon wings. I am planning to make some articulated paper dragon dolls/puppets for stop motion animation purposes. And also because I love derpy little dragons.
The orange and white one is based off a male orange tip butterfly and the other two are based off different species of lantern bugs.
They are made with watercolour paper, watercolour paint, ink and split pins

May I ask what you use to ink your paintings? The black lineart has such a soft look that I’ve only been able to achieve similar with dip ink and a brush but yours looks like pen? The value variation and texture just look really nice so im curious lol
Hi, of course! :3
I use a brushpen, I find it is a good compromise between the smooth effect of a brush and the control of a pen
I use a refillable Pentel brushpen with ink cartridges, I think it's my favorite because it's not water based so it doesn't smudge watercolor
Hope this can be helpful! 🦆🖌️
