#watching this stuff as it comes out instead of binging is TORTURE

Okay, I just figured out why the ending of episode 2 bummed me out so much.
Seeing every character get home to bad news felt really demoralizing, in a way that was probably more than it deserved, because it is natural that stuff like high school couples breaking up, or wealth disparities and future questioning, or academic trouble, or parental or sibling absence, happens in adolescence, but I just realized that it felt like a gut punch because we didn't see any of it build up.
We have no idea what happened with Gorgug and Zelda, and since they were golden when we last saw them, it feels so weird for it to be implied that they break up. We've spent very little time at Aguefort, so Fig and Kristen's near expulsion is total news to us. We haven't accompanied Sklonda's career shift or even just that much of the Gukgak's home life, so we weren't expecting it to affect Riz's future like that. We didn't get to really see Aelwyn's life change post SY, so it was jarring to have her be gone already. Even Gilear and Hallariel, we've barely seen them actually be together, so for them to be engaged already felt very out of nowhere to me. I think if we'd gotten to see stuff progress to this point, it'd feel a lot more natural and not upsetting at all.
But then I realized, too, that this is exactly what the Bad Kids are feeling!! They're getting home after being gone all summer and realizing they've missed all this stuff, and it feels out of nowhere to them, too!! They're tired, surprised, and feeling like they're lacking key experiences, and now so are we! They made this in a way that it not only depicts typical high school experiences and opens up story opportunities for the new season, but it also puts the audience, emotionally, in the exact same place as the characters!
Brennan Lee Mulligan, you evil genius. I cannot wait for the rest of the season, I simply need to see how they get through this. My emotional well-being depends on it!!!

Can I request Bucky & touch starved?
.â・Small Adjustments・â.
Bucky Barnes x plus size reader
To Bucky, touch brought with it pain and suffering but maybe it can be different with you

It was an unspoken agreement amongst the Avengers that under no circumstances was Bucky to be touched. There were one too many instances of him lashing out at even the smallest of touches and after Peterâs arm was almost broken when he grabbed Buckyâs shoulder to steady himself after tripping, the rule was firmly set in place.Â
Touch had always been the harbinger of pain to Bucky. He had experienced and survived thousands of experiments; he knew the difference between acids just based on how much they burned him when they made contact with his skin. He knew what it was like to be ripped apart from the inside out as he was stitched back together while fully conscious. Buckyâs nerves were permanently scarred with each and every moment of pain, ensuring that he would never forget what he had gone through. Needless to say, he appreciated the physical distance the Avengers afforded him, even if it did make his chest ache sometimes.
He saw the friendly touches between them allâ a hug after a hard mission, a clap on the back during training, even the occasional platonic cuddling during movie nights and he couldnât help but be envious, especially when it came to you.
You were, by far, the most affectionate person he had ever met. You didnât hesitate to wrap yourself around anyone who needed a hug, your hand was quite frequently clamped with someone elseâs (Natashaâs or Wandaâs more often than not). You werenât selfish with your touch and though it could be deadly thanks to your training, Bucky knew that you would never hurt the people you cared about.
âBarnes~ where are you!â Buckyâs lips curled into a gentle smile as your voice floated through the hallway, immediately brightening up the entire building.
âIâm in the kitchen, doll!â He shouted back before your footsteps quickened and you burst into the room. Your eyes, although still bleary with sleep even though it was 2 in the afternoon, positively sparkled as soon as you spotted the ex-assassin. Bucky raised an eyebrow at you, and you flustered slightly, looking down at what you were wearing.
âI thought I lost that shirt.âÂ
âYeah well donât leave your stuff out if you donât want someone to steal it.â You shrugged as you skipped over to the pot of fresh coffee still sitting in the machine.
âI seem to remember putting that shirt away, in my closet, in my locked bedroom.â Bucky took a sip of his own coffee.
âI donât know what to tell you, I think old age is finally getting to you.â You tried to hide your warming cheeks behind your mug but he could see right through you.
âWhatever you say doll.â A comfortable silence settled over the both of you for a moment before you cleared your throat.
âSo⌠we have the place to ourselves today,â Bucky knew what was coming, âwanna binge-watch Supernatural with me?â You looked up at him with such a hopeful expression on your face, it made his heart skip a beat.
âI donât know, I was planning on going for a long run today.â His voice tilted up but in your post-sleep haze, you couldnât pick up on the shift in his tone. Immediately, your eyes dropped and your bottom lip poked out. Buckyâs stomach flipped and suddenly all he wanted to do was to scoop you up into his arms and kiss away your pout. Instead, he blurted out quickly, âHey, hey. I was just teasing. Of course Iâll watch with you. Gotta see what Sean and Dan get up to.â
You sniffed. âItâs Sam and Dean and you know it. Donât pretend youâre not as obsessed as I am.â The band around his heart loosened.
âYeah sure. You want Chinese or Thai?â He fished his phone out from his pocket.
âLike you even have to ask.â You retorted.
ââââââ
You felt like you were sitting next to a feral cat as the food coma finally set in. Empty boxes of food were scattered around the coffee table in front of you while yet another episode started up but it wasnât as if you were paying any sort of attention to the screen in front of you.
Somehow, during your feast of questionable takeout, Bucky had migrated from where he had been perched on the other side of the couch to sitting beside you, the thick muscle of his thigh almost touching your knee where you were curled up. His blue eyes stayed glued to the TV while he sighed heavily and leaned back into the couch cushions.
You held your breath as his shoulders dropped, leaving barely an inch of space between you. This was the closest Bucky had ever gotten to you and you would be damned if you fucked this up. Of course you knew about his aversion to touch, you had even witnessed his violent response to it first hand but Jesus did you want to feel the heat of his skin, the strength of his body as he hugged you.
Bucky was undoubtedly your best friend out of all the Avengers yet he was the only one to have never felt your embrace.Â
Your body trembled as you tried to keep yourself still. You didnât want to accidentally brush against him and send him scrambling off but you also didnât want to move away and give him the impression that you didnât want him near you. And selfishly, you did want him beside you if only to fuel your hopeless crush on the man.Â
There was a gunshot on the screen, startling you. You jumped and suddenly, you were half on top of Bucky.Â
Your palm spread across the expanse of his stomach, letting you feel the hardness of his abs and the warmth that radiated off of him. The tip of your nose brushed against his as your eyes locked. You both stayed there for a second before the reality of the situation hit you squarely in the chest.
âOh god Bucky Iâm so sorry. I didnât mean to.â You threw yourself back against the arm of the couch as panic bubbled up in your gut. Bucky remained frozen where he sat, both his hands slightly raised as he looked down at his lap. âBucky I-â Your voice was thick with tears.Â
You shook your head as you pressed the heels of your palms to your eyes, desperately trying to keep them away. How stupid were you? You knew you shouldâve just given him some more space, paid attention to the TV so you would know if something would startle you. Do literally anything else besides jumping on the man with severe trauma. You messed everything up.
âDoll,â Bucky cooed as his hand gently wrapped around your wrists, slowly pulling them down so he could look at you, âIâm not mad.â
âYouâre not?â He chuckled softly, now bringing your hands into his lap so he could hold them.
âHow could I ever be mad at you? I know it was an accident but more than that, I know you would never want to hurt me. Iâm safe with you.â You could feel the slight tremble in his hands like he was struggling to keep touching you but Bucky refused to let go, he even shuffled closer to you. You nodded but stayed quiet. He finally smiled. âBesides, I think itâs time I got one of those famous Y/N hugs. Not now of course, Iâm way too fucked up for that, but soon.â
âDonât be mean to yourself Barnes,â you scolded, âlots of people hurt you. You get to be patient with healing. We just make small adjustments, build up to it yâa know.â
âYeah, small adjustments.â His right hand slid into your left, your fingers intertwining as you both melted back into the couch, your eyes drifting back to your show that neither of you would be paying any attention to. After a few minutes, Buckyâs thumb began to rub against the skin of your knuckles, a delicate back and forth that both sent a flurry of butterflies into flight in your stomach and ignited your cheeks with a blazing heat.
Small adjustments indeed.

WOOP WOOP LETS GOOO. I have request. So I felt really nostalgic after seeing a doll that I used to have (it was a lalaloopsy doll) anyway what if gen or queen nia gave the reader something that they used to have. It can be a doll or book. Anyway what is reader started paying more attention to that item instead of gen or Nia cause it reminds them of their childhood.
Attention. (Yandere!Queen x GN!Reader.)
Nia's Masterlist - General Masterlist
Synopsis: How dare you neglect your queen with some ridiculous teddy? She will certainly show you the consequences! indirectly
Nia Bloodwen x GN!Reader
Nia is a queen with so much work! But she hates doing any of those queenly duties, shoving all that paperwork to the closest assistant and then hosting another gala or party for some stupid made-up event or holiday. The only duty she enjoys is when she gets to fly all around the world and see the party customs in different nations, but also to drag you around new cities! Nia loves sightseeing with you, paired with dressing up in ridiculous disguises, so no one knows who you two are!
Over the two years youâve been together (albeit forcefully together), Nia has bought you a lot of stuff, strange things and expensive things, scary things and cute things. But this? This is the best thing sheâs ever gotten you! Not only is it super adorable, but also incredibly fluffy! It was just perfect, you didnât even think Nia would be capable of getting you something so amazing like that!Â
And since then you havenât let it out of your sight, you slept with it nestled in your arms, you would read your books with it squished in your arms, and you felt a little silly doing this but youâd even eat with it deep in your arms. Even when you two would visit a small city in Xelera that cute little plush would come with you! While you were in bliss, Nia was in absolute torture. Youâve been neglecting her, failing to show her affection, yeah sure you talk with her but what good is that if youâre not spooning her!Â
Usually, she was the one cuddling up to you while you read, now itâs that damn plush, when you slept she would cuddle into your chest, taking your arms and wrapping them around her, but now? That damn plush is in the way, and if she dared move it youâd somehow wake up and get upset with her. She was sick of the plush, Nia patted herself on the back when she initially saw how happy you were, and was ecstatic when you gave her a peck on the cheek out of joy!
Nia planned on getting you things more similar to the plush however after seeing what would happen if she did she decided against it, and knowing you youâd probably fill up your supposedly shared bed with more plushies, so many in fact that youâd be the only one able to fit in, leaving Nia asleep on the floor no doubt! Nia seethes thinking of such a thing, you two were supposed to eat breakfast together but you ate as quickly as you could before running off to binge-watch your show. With the damn plush in hand of course.\
Nia is tired of this, beyond that even! How is she ever meant to fall asleep without you embracing her, letting her listen to your heartbeat over and over? Yet sheâs been hardly sleeping, the cold pillow is not as welcoming as your warm chest. The blankets donât warm her up as your arms do. Nia has been pushed over the limit, this has got to be dealt with, she proclaims to her head. That plush will be assassinated by the end of the week, that she will be sure of!
Random and spontaneous trips werenât rare for you, Nia didnât like to stay in the palace for long, so whenever she discovered a new small village on her map of Xelera sheâd excitedly tell you to pack your bags and keep where you two are headed a secret, that was tradition for her! So Nia will use this against you, somehow busy you while you pack, hiding away your plush while you werenât looking.
And by the moment you entered the carriage on the way to the small village youâd remember the horrible truth, you forgot your poor plush back in the palace! âOh, wait wait! I forgot Little Busenhein back home, wait can we go back?â You look towards Nia, eyes pleading and innocent, it almost makes her feel guilty. Almost, âNope, too late. Sucks to suck, babe. Now, hug me.â
And for the entire week, you were there, longer than you two usually spend in a village, you went without your stupid plush, and Nia has been thriving! You had nothing else to hug and cuddle now except your dear and loving wife. Not only that but sheâd stick to your side whenever you two go out (in your horrible disguises), Nia is a big fan of PDA obviously, but when sheâs been neglected for so long? Itâs even worse now!
Either way, this entire week she has compensated for all the missed moments of physical affection, in more ways than one, if ya know what I mean, wink wink. And now, you two returned home, searching all over the place for the plush as soon as you entered Khas. And when you failed to locate that fucking idiotically named plush, you had come to Nia, oh how she loves it when you depend on her!
Worry was etched onto your face as you approached Nia, âNia, have you seen Little Busenhein? I canât find him anywhere, I swear he was in the libraryâŚâ Nia looked up at you, she was the picture of clueless, although she knew exactly what happened to that stupid bear, âOh my, well I havenât seen that little devil, dear! Maybe Cassidy would know? Iâll call for her and sheâll look for that blasted runaway.â Nia then got up and marched to the phone line, feining concern over the stupid plush.
Nia hung up the phone, looking back at you she beckoned her arms, leaving them wide open, âHoney~ Come here let me comfort you!~âÂ
Your wife then forces you on her lap, cuddling into your back, waiting with you for the maid to come, knowing Cassidy did exactly what Nia told her to do. You wait patiently, your leg hopping up and down nervously, and just in the nick of time Cassidy walks in. "Your royal highness, your highness," She addresses both of you, bowing down deeply, "How may I be of assistance to my queen?" Her voice was regal and calm, and she gave a slight nod towards her queen as she straightened her back, indicating that the job was done.
Nia felt joy as she grinned in madness, though her joy didnât last long as you sprung up from her lap, out of embarrassment and need to know the location of your beloved plush, âThere was a white plush here, long ears, purple eyes, and pink vest and bow, have you seen it?â You quickly sputtered out, desperate for information. Cassidy shifts her pupils over to you, head held high she pretends to think over everything she had done the past week.
And then her eyebrows jumped up, eyes bright and clear, before her face shifted into a grimace, she bowed deeply and regretfully to you, her voice filled with remorse as she spoke, âI deeply apologize for my terrible error! I-I am so sorry! I thought it was someone elseâs, I didnât think itâd be yours!! S-So I-I threw it away! Please forgive me, your grace!!â Her tone was apologetic and weak, just as she rehearsed.
When Cassidy first got the order to enter the Queenâs wing of Khas and clean it she found a letter on the floor, specifically addressed to her. The letter requested for the plush to be thrown away, and when the queen returns and calls for Cassidy she has to act stupid, act like it was an accident. And of course, the ever-loyal woman she is Cassidy followed every order to a tea, including this one.
Nia felt pride echo within her, watching the loyalty presented to her. While Nia could give less of a shit about her servants they obviously hold her up high in their feeble minds, how adorable. You however shatter her heart, with your sad eyes, brows all scrunched up, and your gorgeous smile now a frown, âI- itâs fine, it was an acci-â
Nia spoke up, her voice loud and thundering, making you flinch and look back at her, âNo! It isnât fine, actually, itâs horrible! How dare you come into your Royal Highnessâ private wing and throw away something most obviously cherished! This is clearly a malicious attack! And you shall pay the price for the mental turmoil you caused my darling!â âI should try acting after, goodness Iâm amazing!â Nia thinks as she witnesses the maidâs face twist into a look of horror, and as you look back at her shocked
And with the loudest highest voice this short small woman could muster she yelled out, âGUARDS!!â You and Cassidy flinch not only due to Niaâs glass-shattering scream but also due to the doors slamming open, the two guards usually situated in front of the living room doors bust in, with other guards behind them running down the halls, weapons in hands.Â
Cassidy looks around, panicking she starts to back away from the guards and closer to the two of you, âWhat!?! N-No! This- You-Yââ âSTEP AWAY FROM THE QUEEN! DO NOT GET CLOSER!!â One guard shouts loudly, cutting off Cassidyâs attempt to defend herself. More guards begin to file in the room, while more from all around Khas begin to run towards the living room after being called in through the radio by the guards who heard Niaâs scream.
Yet even with the warning given by one of the guards, poor overwhelmed Cassidy kept stepping backward, closer and closer to the Queen, who inevitably reached out to grab you keeping you close to her own body, âN-No! This-Thi- I-â Once more the maid was cut off, but this time a guard had tackled her to the ground, immobilizing her as soon as they could, while the rest closed in, creating a big circle around the now restrained Cassidy.Â
It all happened so fast for you, one moment you were looking for your plush and now some poor maid is being arrested for throwing it away. You honestly didnât think you or that plush deserved all this mess, and that woman accidentally threw it away so no harm no foul right? âN-Nia are you sure we should be doing this? I mean it was an accident, canât we just let her go..?â You looked back at her, her face rock solid and serious, âNo. No darling, you and everything you care for is very important, which is why anything that harms you, even emotionally, must be taken seriously.âÂ
You sigh, guilt encompassing your entire body as you watch the innocent woman get man-handled out of the room as she yells for her queen ot save her, little does she know her queen was so happy everything went so smooth! âYour Royal Highness! We, the Royal Guard, apologize for disturbing you! The problem has been taken care of, we wish you a happy day!â One of the guards hangs back, saluting you and Nia, before shutting the door behind him.
Nia lets out a sound of exasperation, âGoodness! Finally, I thought theyâd never leave!â She takes your hand, pushing you towards her favorite couch, she forces you to sit down on the left side while cuddles right up to your right side, âI love you sooo much, honey⌠Scratch my back for me Iâm super sleepy! Need your amazing hands to soothe me, honey!â
Finally Nia has you all to herself, a smile is plastered on her face as you reluctantly do as your told, no point in arguing with your clingy wife.

Japanese QL Corner
ICYMI: There are so many Japanese qls airing weekly, so Iâm going to start posting this little round up at the end of each week. All of these are on Gaga and I highly recommend watching!
Love is Better the Second Time Around
This is officially my favorite bl currently airing. I loved this second episode a lot. I appreciate that while the first episode gave us a really solid grounding in who Iwanaga is, the second let us get to know Miyata in all his contradictory glory. That entire sequence from his failed proposal to him demanding Iwanaga take responsibility was glorious. He is still nursing a wound from their high school days and hearing Iwanaga sincerely apologize for his immaturity in making the bet back then seems to have given him some of his power back. I love that he's making Iwanaga work for it, and judging by that smile at the end of the episode, Iwanaga loves it, too.
My Strawberry Film
Yet another week focused on the het love rhombus, this time with a double date. I was spiritually with Ryo sitting on a rock by himself, headphones on and gazing at the sea in mild despair. The plot continues to move at a glacial pace, and I am not nearly as interested in Minami or her secrets as the show wants me to be. She is just not a compelling character. I did appreciate the show making it clear that Hikaru's crush on her is based more on a fantasy of who she is than the reality. And I felt for Chika a lot in this episode and was glad she aired things out with Ryo; she needed his rejection to move on. I wonder if, as @bengiyo suggested, this show will play better as a binge, because it's kind of torturous as a weekly viewing experience.
Sukiyanen Kedo Do Yara ka
A nice ending for a show that didn't quite come together for me. I liked both of these characters a lot, but the writing for their romance was kind of all over the place and we spent a lot of time on frustrating plot diversions instead of building a stronger relationship foundation that would leave us feeling confident about their future (apparently a lot of that extra plot stuff was added to stretch the simple manga story to 10 episodes, and it sure felt like it). I didn't at all buy Mizuki suddenly reappearing and trying to help them get back together. The way the show used his character was perhaps the most frustrating part of all; he felt more like a plot device than a person. But I'm glad Soga and Sakae decided to try again at the end, even if I wish we would have spent the back half of the show seeing them actually work through these complications instead of just talking about them constantly only to end right where they started. Not one that I will be rewatching or that will stick with me, I think.
Bonus: Call Boy (2018)
I have been meaning to watch this film for ages, and finally got around to it this week. Before I am accused of false advertising, let me clarify that this is not a bl or a romance at all; rather it is a story about a disaffected youth who gets offered a job as a sex worker in a high end club and finds purpose and satisfaction in bringing others pleasure. Our lead Ryo is (mostly) het, but he does have one extremely memorable sexual encounter with a male colleague (played by my beloved Izuka Kenta!), and this is in general a film exploring sexual kink and stigma, so it earned its spot on ql corner.
This movie is surprisingly great, and its themes are very sex and sex work positive in a way some other recent shows have claimed (and failed) to be. The narrative is all about Ryo coming to understand the purpose of sex work, finding his own pleasure in fulfilling his client's needs, and working through his childhood trauma in the process. It's very well done and I highly recommend it for anyone who can handle exceedingly NC-17 content. It's on Viki for rent (and also in the grey).

the good place - SPOILER ALERT
i'm currently binging this show. i started watching it a while ago when it first came out but lost momentum when i had to wait for next seasons etc. so this time i've started right back at the beginning.
i am sincerely enjoying this show and in light of the "veil" that's been lifted from my own eyes since oct 7th , 2023 (#freepalestine), it has started to feel like this show has taken on a whole new meaning for me.
the premise of the show is that 4 humans die and wake up in the afterlife and are led to the "good place" ie the general understanding of a "heaven". but [IF YOU WANT TO WATCH THIS SHOW AND DO NOT WANT SPOILERS, STOP READING HERE] what ends up being revealed is that those 4 people have actually been sent to the BAD place ("hell") but have been led to believe that they were in the good place!
and have had to experience subtle tortures in the bad place that completely ruins their "good place" experience.
and i just feel like is there a more perfect metaphor or anecdote for our lives these days. especially for those of us living in the "civilized western world".
the world that gives us all the comforts we need, but always leaves us either wanting for more or else completely stretched out in order to afford the stuff we do have?
one of the things that i think is such a PERFECT plot point in the good place is the fact that instead of ice cream, the place is filled with frozen yogurt places. in the scene where the "architect" is trying to come up with this idea, he asks his assistant "janet, what's a food that people think they enjoy but that's also kind of a bummer?".
to which janet responds "frozen yogurt".
have we not been led to believe how much we will enjoy our worldly possessions. how much we need the houses that we spend our money mortgaging, how much we need that designer LITERALLY ANYTHING in our lives? in the world of massive multinational corporations driving our demand towards whatever they're supplying, have we not been brainwashed into believing that they will solve our problems? when....in actual reality....we might not actually HAVE problems!?
URGH.
life out west is exactly this; it's a life people think they enjoy, people strive to achieve, but it's also kind of a bummer. we work all the time, we live for the weekends. we purchase devices to engage with other human beings and make connections and lo and behold those same devices are the things that drive us away from those SUPER NATURAL experiences!
we earn money to have food, then we earn money to have a car, then we earn money to have shelter. but it's not enough. we need the best food. we need another car. we need a mortgage over a rental. and after the mortgage, we need a cottage and an airbnb. we need these things that we don't actually need in order to sustain a life that perhaps, if someday, we had the balls to be honest with ourselves...we don't actually want!
and i get it, i'm the biggest victim of capitalism and the "American dream" that i know. i refused to even consider having a child until i had signed off on a mortgage. WHY? would a rental not have sufficed for esa who yearns so badly to sleep in his parents' room, in his parents' bed?
we needed a car and then we needed another car because we were just going to our jobs and both of us work and yasir has a side business all for what? so that we could afford our home?
and now we want a bigger home so that we can continue to work and not actually spend any time in said home!? what are these weird toxic circles that we're building for ourselves!?
when Allah swt has asked us for none of this. He has not asked us to build houses. He's asked us to build families. He has not asked us to buy cars. He's not asked us to have iphones or teslas or guccis or pradas. He's asked us for faith and tawakkul and worship. and He has promised us reward in return.
and yet we walk about our daily lives as if we have control over these things!? i'm planning my family as if i have any control over actually having a child!? i'm planning my career as if i have any control over receiving a promotion!?
obviously, i still understand, the control we do have lies in our hard work and Allah swt rewards honest hard work. but i mean....if it's not meant for us, it will not be for us. and if it is meant for us, nothing will stop it from us. so how do we go around with the audacity to believe we have any semblance of control.
anyway. i have just gone through some pretty big life realizations since this past october and i just....i guess i feel jilted. i feel like i've been lied to. i've been brainwashed and pushed into wanting a certain life for myself that i didn't ever really need. but here i am...fulfilling it's demands.
when perhaps my purpose on this earth was not any of that.
anyway. before i become incomprehensible, i'm going to end this post.
much love,
goodnight.

The last dominoâŚ
Weâve all been there. Being obsessed with someone or something we canât have. But what happens when it becomes too muchâŚ
So this has been my experience, albeit a bit exaggerated. Something I just needed to get out there. But I also couldnât help but read into the vibes and make it as depressing as I could. I think it worked. I posted this on ao3 but also wanted to have it here too.
TW for some negative stuff like self harm behavior, internalized homophobia, etc
This is a lot harder to do on mobile.
Title change to The Last Domino by Skyhill. Link to music video: https://youtu.be/_arDeBucPek?si=Dnz9GZjb_814XPx-
The abyss opened up to say youâll orbit alone dead and gone - The Last Domino, Skyhill
Itâs the end of the summer. You get done watching your newest binge watch. A few characters die. Youâre devastated but you move on. You have things to do. You have work to go to.
You continue on through your days, thoughts moving forward instead of behind you. Youâre happy. You like the people you surround yourself with. Work is exhausting but fulfilling.
Until one day in September. You feel something settle in your chest. Something hollow âŚaching âŚdark. Like a black hole where your heart once was, absorbing every ounce of light left in your soul.
It takes over. Dulling your senses to the point of nothing but pain. Your whole body aches. Your mind is reeling. Your heart feels like it isnât there. Absorbed by the darkness till thereâs nothing like but a beating husk keeping you alive. Youâre functional but just barely.
Youâre drawn back to them. To their character. To their death. Youâre not sure when it morphs from character to human and back again. You try to avoid it. But like any addiction, youâre drawn back in and it brings you a torturous comfort.
You understand why people end. This feeling is too intense. Youâd never do it. But you get it.
You go through the motions of existing. Wake up. Go to work. Come home. Dread. You cry at your doctor's appointment and get a prescription for something stronger. Something to calm the ache. And it works, but only so much. Your thoughts keep wandering. Back to them. Continuing to break the black hole open.
October comes and goes. Itâs a blur. You notice the black hole. Coming and going. Taking root in your chest like it owns your whole being. Only to disappear and leave you grappling with a flood of good emotions. Itâs a rollercoaster. You want off.
It was a warm day in November. You were visiting your parents. Making breakfast, you feel a breeze come through the open window. With it brings that feeling. The black hole. Itâs not as bad today. But youâre still wondering when it will stop. When the feeling will fade and youâll be back to normal.
Itâs a rainy day in November. You have somewhere to be today but your anxiety is getting the better of you. The black hole appears. You start to wonder if it would be worth it to meet them. To finally get the chance to interact. But what would that bring? Nothing that youâve dreamed of. Nothing that would bring them into your life the way you want. But wouldnât it be better than nothing? You wish you could find someone who isnât themâanyone who isnât them. The black hole is smaller but itâs still there. Still numbing your senses. When will you get over it? It always seems to come back but when will it go away? At least for long enough to get over this annoying infatuation.
You donât like the things you see. But what can you do? It was never yours to begin with. There is nothing you can do about it. But it cuts you just as deep as you thought it would.
You cancel your plans. You lay in bed, disgusted at how this is still invading your thoughts. How they are infiltrating your existence. How can you let go? Can you even let go? You feel pathetic. Maybe thatâs exactly what you are. Pathetic.
The idea of intentionally hurting yourself doesnât cross your mind, but what you wouldnât give to accidentally fall. Break a bone, scrape up your hands. Just to feel something else. Give your mind something else to focus on.
But you also donât care. Youâre not sure where the numbness ends and the burnout begins. It all blends together. How are you keeping your head above? Itâs too much, too intense. But you donât know anything else. So you keep going. Plastering on that smile. Which sometimes feels real. Except when youâre alone.
Youâre so tired. The kind that sleep doesnât fix. You turn back to your torturous comfort. It takes the edge off. Clears your head a little. But you know itâs only a bandaid, and really, stitches would be more useful at this point.
Youâre wondering when the bandaids will stop working. When they wonât do their job anymore. Will that be when you finally drift back to reality? When you can finally go back to normal?
Itâs a snowy day in November. You bring it up when conversation allows. It sounds like a joke. But you know itâs not. Youâre embarrassed. You donât even want to tell your therapist.
You make it through the day fine but when itâs finally dark out. It hits you. Itâs embarrassing how badly you want this. What you wouldnât give to have even an ounce of that future. Just a taste.
You canât remember it being this bad before. Even when you were youngerâthat want for this to be real. Youâre spiraling. Youâre pathetic.
You feel like something is just missing. Youâre not sure if itâs because of them or just in general. Would anyone help fill this void? Your anxiety is growing. You have nothing to take to diminish the unwanted electricity coursing through your veins.
You just want it to go away. You want to go away. Trade your brain in for a new one. One that forgets they exist. That youâre obsessed and canât let go. Even your favorite music brings your thoughts back to them. You canât even escape when you try.
You go to bed anxious. You wake up anxious. Youâre irritable. Youâre uncomfortable. You see things you donât want to see. But it doesnât change how you feel.
You start to accept that this feeling isnât going away. Not any time soon anyway. Can you learn to live with it? Maybe. But it wears too much on your soul. It hurts to think about what could be but isnât. And never will be. Maybe this is just your existence now.
It happened again. But this time, with them. The love they share. The kind you long for. The kind youâll never have.
You just keep consuming. Everything until there is nothing new. Youâre left with pieces. Scraps of nothing by the time you are through.
Tears flow. Because this time, you know thereâs not a chance. Because of what you are. How you identify. No one will understand. You donât even understand sometimes. It doesnât make sense.
Youâre stuck again. Frozen. Not being able to make a move, left or right. You canât eat. You canât move. This is worse than the first time because there is no chance.
You're too old. You're not pretty enough. You're not skinny enough. You're not feminine enough. You're not straight enough, but youâre not queer enough either. You want what they do but you donât move like they do. You can only fake it for so long before the truth comes out. You're too traumatized. Youâre alone. You will be forever.

Jungkook was fucking terrified of you. If it werenât for the fact that he was close to failing Statistical Analysis, he wouldâve considered faking a stomach flu and making a beeline straight out of the library.
âIf you have a box containing 3 white, 4 red and 5 black balls what is the probability that you will draw a white ball on your first draw and a black ball on your second draw?â you asked again through gritted teeth.
You looked up at Jungkook and were met by an empty stare. Usually you enjoyed tutoring your fellow classmate. He was a smart and funny guy, maybe a bit awkward at times, but always trying his best. Today every little thing grated on your nerves. It took you every ounce of energy to get out of bed and look like a presentable human being this morning. You really didnât want to sit here for another hour if the boy was just going to stare at you like a petrified statue. âItâs really not that difficult. You just have to apply conditional probability.â
Jungkook let out a frustrated huff and pulled at his hair, âI really donât know, this doesnât make any sense! Why do I even need this stuff for my major? Who cares if I pull out a white ball or a black ball first? Itâs not like Iâm planning on becoming Houdini!â
Sometimes you pitied him, but who on Earth had an irrational fear of Gauss distributions and probability?! They were beautiful, harmless, abstract concepts of life. Your sympathy was muffled by a thrumming headache. All the late-night crying already had you chugging water and slapping ice cubes on your face at breakfast. Right now you just wanted to go home, change into your pjs, order some tangsuyuk and binge watch Boys Over Flowers. The cringy acting and Go Jun Pyoâs luscious locks were the only things that made your miserable life feel a bit less pathetic at the moment. âJungkook, we went over this last time. Just apply the damn formula,â you snapped.
âWhy are you being so scary today?â he asked wide-eyed and apprehensive.
You took a deep breath, rubbed your temples and tried to calm your inner turmoil. It wasnât his fault; you were just in a really shitty mood. âIâm sorry. Itâs not my day today. Is it okay if we rain check? I promise Iâll make it up to you next week.â
Jungkook wasnât used to seeing you this distraught. He wracked his brain on how to lift your spirit. âHey, do you want to hear this math joke my friend Jin told me the other day? What do you call an angle that is adorable?â
The boy scrunched his nose adorably and waited for your response. He was really handsome, you noticed that back when you two first met. Back then you just didnât have a reason to care. Back then you still had a boyfriend.
âI donât know, tell me,â you answered.
âAcute angle!â he said with a timid smile.
Despite your foul mood you had to snort at his joke.
Jungkookâs smile grew wider. It wasnât a full laugh, but at least your frown disappeared. He discovered early on that you had a soft spot for bad math puns.
Although he absolutely detested Statistical Analysis, he has come to enjoy your study sessions over the past couple of weeks. The TA of his class, Namjoon, was a close friend of Jungkookâs and a sunbae of yours. Once he discovered that his favorite dongsaeng was abysmal at reading a z-score table, he immediately referred him to you.
At first Jungkook was very reluctant to accept any help. He was a mechanical engineer for fuckâs sake! He calculated distributed load across uneven surfaces and directional derivatives all the time!
His inner protests died down during your first session when you unwittingly asked him if he was constipated while he tried to calculate the standard deviation. During your second session he noticed you liked to doodle small geometric and fractal comics on his work sheets whenever he was solving a problem.
âWhat did the triangle say to the circle?â âYouâre pointless!â
By the time your third session rolled around he still hated statistics, but it was too late and heâd developed a hopeless crush on you. Your monologues about dead mathematicians and the beauty of an infinite series were oddly captivating. He didnât think heâd ever met anyone who was so passionate and animated about anything in all his life.
âIs everything okay?â Jungkook asked carefully. You seemed tired and a bit wary. âI-I mean, you donât have to tell me if you donât feel like it. Sorry, itâs none of my business,â he immediately added.
You smiled at his flustered state. Jungkookâs heart stumbled when your smile turned sad and you said, âNo not really, but Iâm sure Iâll be fine sooner or later.â

Note: LatteIsHorse-nim! Little Tokki is doing well and bravely guarding our store! Donât drown, but hereâs some extra sauce for you to enjoy. I asked for it to be without pineapple. Hwaiting!
âYah! Why does it smell like rotten take-out in your bedroom?â Jisoo asked.
Scowling has become your new go-to expression. âToo soon. Just let me wallow in my self-pity and sorrow.â
If you didnât know any better you wouldâve thought your friend was playing âThe Floor Is Lavaâ considering how gingerly she walked across your room. Safely on the other side, she ripped open a window to let some much needed fresh air in.Â
âI think youâre going to be wallowing in mold and fungus instead,â Jisoo commented with disgust. âWallow all you want, Iâm here to support you, girl. But I canât allow you to turn your place into a biohazard zone. Isnât your sister bothered by this?â
âMy sister doesnât care; our rooms are off limits to each other. As long as we both keep the common area clean, she wonât complain,â you said.
Jisoo sat down on your bed and patted the empty spot next to her. She immediately retracted her hand. âEww, is that tangsuyuk sauce on your sheets?â she asked, completely appalled.
You shrugged and thumped onto your bed.
âSo what are your plans for tonight?â she asked, trying to suppress a shudder.
âItâs Monday night. What plans could I possibly have?â
âWeâre in college! Weekdays, weekends, theyâre all the same!â your friend exclaimed. She looked at your sprawled-out figure. âI told you from the very beginning he wasnât good for you. I know it doesnât feel like this right now, but youâre lucky heâs out of your life. I really canât watch you torture yourself over a jerk like him. Letâs go out to Hongdae!â
âI canât go out. I already have plans.â
âDidnât you just say you didnât have any plans?â
âI lied. I have a date.â
Jisoo paused for a second, unsure how to respond. âReally? With whom?â
âGong Yoo. We promised to kiss each other on first snowfall,â you responded listlessly.
âYah!â Jisoo yelled and smacked your butt.
âOww! What was that for?â you cried in surprise, rubbing the tender spot.
âRe-watching Goblin is not a date! You scared me for a second,â Jisoo said.
âHow is it not a date? I meet a hot oppa, multiple hot oppas, we have dinner together, I giggle and blush and at the end of the night I get kissed to sleep.â You sat up and gave your friend a weary look. âI really donât want to go out right now, but also donât want to be on my own. Canât we just stay in and watch a drama?â you asked with the saddest face you could muster.
Jisoo wanted to argue, but she couldnât resist your pout. âFine. But first you change your bedsheets, Iâm not gonna sit in moldy tangsuyuk sauce all night. And I get to choose the drama.â
âCall!â

Note: LatteIsHorse-nim! Personally, Iâm a dipper, but I donât discriminate! I added some broth as service for you. Itâs chilly tonight. Donât catch a cold!
Paper Note: JK-nim, letâs be friends? Iâm also a dipper! Did you know that butterflies canât fly when theyâre cold? Here is one that I folded, sending back my warmest thoughts to you on this frosty spring night.
The first thing that caught your eye was Jungkook who was patiently waiting at the library entrance. Despite the steaming goods in his hands, his entire body was shivering. The temperature suddenly dropped last night, but he couldnât be bothered to dig up his padded jacket when he left the house this morning.
Before you could even greet him, he shoved a hot milk tea towards you and mumbled, âHere, itâs cold today so I thought you could use something warm.â
You were surprised by this sweet gesture. âThanks,â you reached for it and examined the drink in your hand, âHow did you know I like black milk tea?â
He ducked his head and mumbled something into himself.
âSorry, what did you say?â
Jungkook lifted his head. His cheeks and nose were a lovely wash of pink from the cold. âYou mentioned once that youâre an OG milk tea drinker, so I just guessedâ he repeated again, louder. âI saw this bungeoppang cart on the way here. We can share them while studying?â he said, holding up a small paper bag.
Your heart warmed and for the first time in weeks your face split into big smile, âSure, I love bungeoppang! Weâre not allowed to eat inside the library. So how about we eat everything first before they get cold and then go in?â
The both of you took a seat on a bench. By now Jungkook definitely regretted being too lazy to find his jacket this morning, but he was determined not to let it show. He passed the bag full of bungeoppangs to you.
You happily reached for one of the fish-shaped pastries and started munching on it. Your face crinkled, steam came out of your mouth. Jungkookâs heart skipped as he watched you in fascination. Your cheeks were flushed. A sudden instinct to stroke your rosy skin overcame him. Instead he reached for a bungeoppang and took a careful bite. âAre you feeling better today?â
âA little bit,â you said between bites, âIâm really sorry about last time. I feel bad now. I ditched you and now youâre treating me to snacks.â You went on and stabbed your straw through your milk tea. âI should be the one treating you instead.â
âI like to treat you,â Jungkook said, mesmerized by the way your lips moved against the straw. He suddenly realized what he was doing and cleared his throat, âA happy teacher is a good teacher! Youâre already spending your time tutoring me.â
A laugh slipped out of you, âJungkook, youâre paying me for your lessons. But itâs okay, this bungeoppang and tea definitely hits the spot, so Iâll accept it with a grateful heart. What are you drinking?â
Jungkook looked down on his drink and gave it a shake, the black pearls swirled around buoyantly. âBanana milk tea, I prefer sweet drinks.â
You leaned back against the bench and looked up at the clear blue sky. âSweet things are the best combat against the bitter taste of life,â you sighed. You closed your eyes and soaked in the crisp air. Jungkook felt your melancholy, he could warm your body, but he didnât know how to warm your heart. Â
âSorry that Iâm bothering you with my personal stuff. Itâs just that I had a really bad breakup recently. I shouldnât let it affect our lessons,â you said with a wistful smile as you lifted your head again.
The boy next to you remained silent. You turned and saw a contemplative look on his face. âItâs alright, everyone can have a bad day,â he finally said, âYou donât have to pretend to be okay when youâre not. If youâre never angry or sad, you wonât know when youâre happy.â
His words stunned you. Has Jungkook always been this thoughtful? You turned away from his gaze and looked down at the pastry in your hand. âTheyâre rhombus shaped,â you muttered in an attempt of distraction and showed your bungeoppang to Jungkook. âThe fish scales,â you added when he looked confused.
âAh yeah, the scales. Itâs actually erroneous since most of the bungeoppangs depict a ganoid scale structure when in fact carps have cycloid scales to allow for a greater flexibility,â Jungkook explained.
A blank look appeared on your face. Probably the same blank look he had whenever you tried to explain the Bayesâ theorem to him. He let out an awkward laugh, âWe studied the mechanics of fish scale structures in Material Science. You can correlate the flexibility of a scaled surface depending on its underlying geometric structure and material. Itâs pretty cool stuff.â
âI canât believe you can geek out about the geometry of fish scales, but donât know how to define your probability population,â you snorted in disbelief.Â
âHey, when will I ever need to calculate the probability of two people with the same birthday in a room? I just have a hard time learning stuff I never have to apply,â he said defensively.
Then you suddenly had an idea. âTell you what, how about this? If you pass your statistics final, Iâll treat you to the best Chinese take-out in town! You can order whatever you want!â
Jungkook didnât want to dampen your excitement by telling you that his part-time job already allowed him to eat as much Chinese take-out as he wanted. âOkay, but donât complain when you go broke. My record was five jjajangmyeon and two tangsuyuk in one sitting.â
You batted away his challenge. âFirst you have to pass your finals,â you teased.
âIâll pass,â Jungkook said.
You smiled at his cute determination. âThen itâs a date.â
Jungkook beamed back at you. âItâs a date.â

1 Tangsuyuk (large) 2 Pork Mandu 1 Tteokkguk 1 Jjajangmyeon 1 Tteokkbokki ---------------- Note: No pineapple plz. JK-nim! Happy Childrenâs Day! For this special occasion Iâve decided to order all of my childhood favorites. Life is too short to eat bad food. I hope today you treat yourself to something delicious as well!
âYah! JK! Your girlfriend placed an order again!â Yugyeom yelled across the store.
A mop of black hair peaked out from the back of the shop. âSheâs not my girlfriend, sheâs just a regular,â Jungkook yelled back.
âA regular you flirt with,â Yugyeom snickered, âI saw all the notes you left her in the system. âDonât catch a cold!â, âHwaiting!â Donât tell me thatâs not your lame attempt at flirting.â
Suddenly an angry Yoongi stomped out of the kitchen. âKeep it down boys, we have guests here.â
Jungkook went up to the register and printed out the online order. âHyung, can you make a large tangsuyuk without pineapple?â
âItâs a national holiday, thereâs like two people here tonight,â Yugyeom muttered under his breath.
âWhat did you say, Yugyeom?â
âNothing, hyung!â
Yoongi snatched the order out of Jungkookâs hand and gave both boys another irritated glance before he headed back into the kitchen.
âHey JK,â Yugyeom said in a lower voice as he moved next to his friend, âarenât you ever curious how LatteIsHorse is like? I mean, she must have some sense of humor judging by her username.â
âSometimes. Donât you ever wonder how our regulars are like? But itâs not like Iâm ever gonna meet them or know itâs them when they come into the store,â Jungkook said with a shrug.
âYou could though. Mingyuâs out on delivery, Eunwooâs off so we have a free bike. The store is dead tonight. You could go deliver the order and have a look,â Yugyeom spurred him on.
Jungkook considered his friendâs suggestion. Every time he opened his locker a little origami bunny and butterfly stared back at him and brightened his day. It was true, he was curious how LatteIsHorse was like. âOkay Iâll go, but donât pretend youâre doing me a favor. You just donât want to do delivery tonight.â
<Ding Dong>
A pretty girl in a Yonsei hoodie and shorts opened the door. She somehow looked familiar, but Jungkook couldnât place from where. Maybe he met her on campus before.
âDelivery from Golden Bang,â Jungkook said, holding up his metal box.
âAh great! Iâm starving!â the girl said.
Jungkook started unloading the box and handed the dishes to the girl. Once he was done, he lingered awkwardly in the doorway. The girl gave him a curious look, clearly wondering why he wasnât leaving. Jungkook gathered his courage and said, âIâm JK by the way.â
What followed was a beat of silence. Jungkook could feel his ears burn.
âErr, itâs nice to meet you, I guess? Is there anything else you need?â the girl asked after the painful pause. âAh got it! Just a sec!â She ran into the apartment and came back with her wallet. âHereâs a tip, weâll put the dishes back outside for pick up,â she said as she scrunched a bill into Jungkookâs hand, âThanks for your hard work. Happy holiday!â And then she shut the door right into his face.
What just happened? Jungkook was stupefied. After an eternity he finally moved and mechanically pulled out his phone. He checked the delivery order on his app. LatteIsHorse â this was the address. She didnât recognize him. Why was he so naive to believe that she would remember him? All he wanted in that moment was for the ground to open and swallow him up.
âDinnerâs here,â your sister said as you came out of the shower. âDid you order banana milk?â
âNo? Why?â you joined her at the dinner table and started rummaging through the dishes. âWhereâs the receipt?â
âI threw it in the trash,â she said. When she saw you opening up the trash can and fishing for it, she added, âGross! What are you doing? Why do you need it?â

[14/05 16:55 PM] User: LatteIsHorse ---------------- ORDER [TAKE AWAY]
1 Tangsuyuk (small) 1 Jjajangbap ---------------- Note: JK-nim, hope youâre doing well. Iâm in the area today, so I thought Iâd stop by and say hello in person! Is it weird that I feel a bit nervous?
The restaurant door wasnât going to open itself. The past 15 minutes of you standing in front of it has proven that. You had some errands to run in Hongdae after school and decided on a whim to place a pickup order at your favorite take-out place.Â
Why was it so difficult to enter a restaurant? If you steeled your nerves any more, theyâd probably break from how brittle theyâve become. You just had to open that damn door.
Sometimes you wondered if you liked that place more because of its great tangsuyuk or because of JKâs little notes which always managed to put a smile on your face.
One thing was for sure, you werenât stalling because of the tangsuyuk.
âWelcome to Golden Bang!â a bright male voice rang across the restaurant as you passed through the door.
You walked up to the register and sneaked a peek at the boyâs name tag, âYugyeomâ. You felt a slight twinge of disappointment.
âIâm here to pick up my order? LatteIsHorse?â you asked tentatively.
A sign of recognition flashed across Yugyeomâs face. âOf course, your orderâs ready! Iâll just bag it up for you,â he said cheerfully. He walked away and quickly came back with a white plastic bag full of food. Then he printed out your receipt and handed both to you.

You looked around the restaurant, it was empty since dinnertime was still a while away. You wondered if Yugyeom was managing the store alone right now. At least the cook must be in. âYour tangsuyuk is really delicious. Itâs probably my favorite.â
Yugyeom gave you a big smile, âHappy to hear that you enjoy our food so much. The tangsuyuk is our chefâs family recipe. Itâs one of our most popular menu items!â
You wringed your hands and finally decided to bite the bullet and straight out ask, âIs JK here? He usually takes my orders when I order delivery, so I just wanted to say hi.â
âJKâs shift doesnât start until 6, so he should be here in about half an hour. If you want, I can relay a message,â he said with a knowing smile, âOr you can also take a seat and wait for him. Iâm sure heâd be thrilled to meet you.â
No way you were going to sit here for half an hour and wait up for a stranger. âAh no, thatâs alright. If you could just say hi from me, thatâd be great,â you quickly replied with a flush. JK would probably think youâre a creepy stalker.
âSure, can do! Enjoy your day!â Yugyeom said merrily as you walked out the store.
A feeling of both relief and sadness passed through you. You slowly walked down the busy streets of Hongdae as you reprimanded yourself for being so stupid. What were you going to say to JK anyway if you met him? Thanks for being nice to me? Youâre the reason I donât burst into tears every single night? Youâre the reason why I donât feel completely alone when Iâm sobbing into my food over Song Joong Kiâs acting? Thanks for making me gain 3 kilos in the last month?
Whatever you said, it wouldâve only made you sound pathetic.
A crippling wave of desperation suddenly washed over you and rooted you in your tracks. A single tear rolled down your face. Then another. You dropped down into a crouch and started to bawl. You couldnât fathom how youâve reached this all-time low in your life. Why did you feel so incredibly sad about being stood up by a stranger? Especially when that stranger didnât even know you were coming?
âY/N?â an alarmed voice asked. You looked up when you felt a soft shake against your shoulder.
Through your tear-blurred eyes you recognized Jungkookâs face. He crouched down next to you and asked, âIs everything okay? Are you hurt?â
You shook your head and tried to wipe away your tears. It was a useless attempt as they kept on streaming down your face.
Jungkook hesitantly pushed your hair out of your face and asked, âDo you want to go somewhere else so you can tell me what happened?â
You gave him an imperceptible nod.
His hand gently moved down to your arm, afraid that you were going to push him away. With a steady grip he slowly helped you back onto your feet. Then he slid his hand through yours and led you down the hustle and bustle of Hongdae until you ended up in front of a convenience store located in one of the quieter residential side streets. He sat you down in a plastic chair and told you to wait. After a while he came back with a packet of tissues, a bottle of water and two red bean popsicles.
You gratefully took the tissues and loudly blew your nose. A small part of your brain told you to act more ladylike, especially in front of Jungkook, but the bigger part didnât really care and just wanted to drag you back down into the pits of loneliness. A strangled sound came out of your mouth as you started to hiccup, making you sound like a drowning cat.
You expected Jungkook to laugh at your weird orchestra of emotions. Even you found it absurd and wouldâve laughed if you werenât already crying and hiccupping at the same time. But all he did was quietly open the water bottle and hand it to you. Â
As soon as you lifted the bottle to your mouth another hiccup made you almost spill the water on yourself. You held your breath for a few seconds and then took a careful sip. It seemed to work. You took a bigger sip, when another hiccup racked your body and you squeezed water all over your face.
There was a bewildering moment of shock, then you started to laugh deliriously. Forget before, this was your lowest point in life. This was so pathetic that it was hilarious again. Your laughter garbled whenever you hiccupped, only causing you to laugh even harder. You wouldâve continued laughing for another long minute if you werenât choking for air.
A small smile played around Jungkookâs mouth. He took another tissue and started wiping down your face. You hiccupped under his touch. He must think youâre a nutcase.
âI have a question. We have to do some statistical testing in my Quality Management class. What would a hypothesis look like if I wanted to analyze any deviation in a spare parts production line due to temperature conditions?â Jungkook asked.
Did he really forget hypothesis testing already? He finally managed to get it after four sessions! You frowned slightly. âYou could set up a null hypothesis stating that a variation in temperature does not significantly impact the parameter of measurement in your production line. Jungkook did you seriously forget this?!â you said indignantly.
Jungkook gave you a playful laugh, âNo, I think you drilled it so hard into my brain, I could probably recite all variables of the standard deviation formula if you woke me up in the middle of the night. Your hiccups stopped though.â
They did.
Embarrassment set in as you realized your predicament. Maybe your hormones were going crazy, maybe you were going crazy. You were getting whiplash from the emotional roller coaster you were on. In an attempt to hide your disgrace, you picked up another tissue and wiped away the remaining water, snot and tears.
There was tangible awkwardness in the air.
âI hope you like red bean,â Jungkook said shyly as he unwrapped a popsicle, âRed bean is my favorite. My friends keep on calling me old fashioned, but it just reminds me of the time when my mom used to buy me these after taekwondo class. I think I liked the popsicles more than I liked going to class.â He sighed in reverie and held up the popsicle for you.
You stared at his hand. You remembered how it felt against yours just a few moments ago. Firm, warm and steady. Then you looked up at Jungkook. He hid it well, but you could tell that there was concern behind his encouraging smile.
âThis is so embarrassing,â you said as you accepted the popsicle and turned your head away from him, âI donât know what is wrong with me right now. Iâm usually not like this.â
âDid something happen earlier?â Jungkook asked cautiously as he unwrapped his own popsicle and took a bite out of it.
Did something happen earlier? Why did you cry? Where you really crying just because you didnât meet JK?
âNo,â you said and slowly shook your head, âI donât know. I just suddenly felt overwhelmed.â
Jungkook hesitated before he asked, âAre you sad because of your breakup?â
Were you sad because of your ex-boyfriend?
âI donât think so. In the beginning when we broke up I was devastated, but I donât think thatâs the case anymore,â you said more to yourself than to Jungkook. âEveryone told me I was lucky to be rid of him. I really didnât understand why. But I think itâs becoming clearer now. Maybe itâs not sadness. Maybe itâs fear. I think I just feel lost. I donât know who I am anymore. Maybe it scares me to know that I was able to lose myself and I donât know if I can find a way back.â
Before you knew it, you spilled your heart, your deepest and darkest fears to Jungkook. You barely knew this boy, yet it still felt oddly comforting. He remained quiet and listened.
âI wanted to meet someone today, but they werenât there,â you continued, âI think in that moment I just realized how utterly lost I was on my own.â
Jungkook searched for the appropriate words. How do you respond to someoneâs most vulnerable thoughts? âI mean you know what they say. Itâs not about how much youâve lost, itâs about how much you have left.â
He peeked at you to check if it worked.
âJungkook, did you just quote Iron Man at me?â you asked incredulously before a giggle slipped from your lips.
You noticed how his cheeks dimpled when he gave you an embarrassed laugh, âSorry, I was trying to say something that would cheer you up. Iâm probably not doing a very good job.â
In that second you realized how kind-hearted Jungkook actually was. Your heart squeezed. âDonât say that. Thanks for listening to my problems. And thanks for the red bean popsicle. I also ate this a lot in my childhood. Mainly because my sister hated them. She always used to steal my ice cream out of the freezer so at some point I asked my parents to only buy me red bean popsicles. She never touched those,â you reminisced.
Jungkook laughed at your story, âYour sister sounds like a piece of work.â
âWe used to fight a lot, we used to never get along,â you became thoughtful, âAt some point that stopped. I think we just grew up and grew to understand and accept our differences. She doesnât steal my food anymore. I donât steal her clothes anymore. We may not always agree, but we respect each otherâs decisions.â
âYou know, for someone who just said she feels lost, you sound pretty self-reflected right now,â Jungkook mused, âMaybe you need to do the same as you did with your sister. Understand yourself and accept the differences of your past and present.â
You paused at this. He was right. You were so desperately trying to fend off these negative emotions that you never took the time to actually think. You were chasing an image that never existed. Not in the past nor in the present.
âYouâre surprisingly good at giving advice. Thanks, Jungkook,â you said.
âSurprisingly? Whatâs that supposed to mean?â he asked, offended. The glint in his eyes gave his teasing away.
Laughter pealed from you. Jungkook was captivated by the sound. He drank in the way your eyes creased with mirth and followed your fingers as they brushed back your hair.
Jungkookâs phone vibrated. âOh shit!â
âIs everything alright?â
âYeah, donât worry. I was actually on my way to work and my boss is asking me where I am,â he said as he stuffed his phone back in his pocket.
Jungkook startled when you suddenly jumped up. âThen you should get to work! You shouldâve said something sooner. Iâm so sorry for keeping you here!â
âNo, itâs really fine. Iâve done enough overtime. He wonât complain if Iâm a few minutes late,â he said, âAre you feeling better?â
You ignored his question and pushed against his shoulders to get him out of the chair. âGo to work, Jungkook. Iâll be fine, your red bean popsicle did wonders,â you responded placatively.
When he still didnât move, you grabbed his arm and pulled him back onto the main street. Jungkookâs skin scorched under your touch. âGo to work, Jungkook,â you said again with more emphasis.
âAre you sureâŚ?â he asked, unwilling to let you out of his sight before he knew you werenât just going cry again at the next street corner.
âI wonât burst into tears,â you said as if reading his mind. âYou were right, I need to reconcile with myself. So Iâll go home, enjoy my dinner and think about who I am and who I want to be. And you,â you said giving him another gentle shove, âneed to go to work.â
Jungkook saw the stubborn look on your face. He wondered if you realized you were using your teaching voice right now. You werenât going to take no for an answer. âOkay fine, text me when you get home?â
You waved away his concerns. âSure. Go already,â you said with a big reassuring smile. âSee you tomorrow at school!â you added before you turned around and walked away.
âYouâre late,â Yugyeom said as soon as Jungkook entered the store.
Jungkook gave Yugyeom a sheepish look and only muttered, âYeah sorry, something came up on my way here.â Then he rushed past him to the back of the restaurant and changed into his uniform.
Once he came back out he noticed Yugyeom throwing him strange looks.
âWhat?â
âYour girlfriend says hi,â Yugyeom said with a hint of amusement.
âWho?â
Yugyeom gave Jungkook a meaningful look, âLatteIsHorse. She ordered pick up. I think she was hoping to meet you. Sheâs cute. She looks like sheâs probably a college student around here.â
âI know,â was all Jungkook replied.
Yugyeomâs eyes bulged in curiosity, âYou know? You know sheâs cute or you know sheâs a student? You never told me what actually happened that night!â
Jungkook gave him a tired look and said, âShe didnât recognize me. She wore a Yonsei hoodie, so I guess she goes there. Nothing else happened.â
âHmm, thatâs weird. She was asking for you today, so she definitely knows your name,â Yugyeom said.
âWho knows, maybe she was having a lot on her plate that day,â Jungkook said with a shrug. He wondered where you lived and if you already got home safely. âWhy are you obsessing over this so much?â
âMan, do you know how painful it is to watch your sorry attempts at flirting? Iâm just trying to help you out, mate,â Yugyeom quipped.
âI wasnât flirting! I was just trying cheer someone up who was obviously feeling down! Itâs called being a decent human being,â Jungkook exclaimed.
Yugyeom gave him the side eye, âYeah, thatâs still not gonna get you laid.â

The study sessions with Jungkook continued per usual. He still struggled and had frustrated outbursts from time to time, especially when you forced him to revise probability distributions. When you finally reached regression analysis, things became easier.
Although your sessions remained the same, something in your dynamic changed. The both of you became looser and more playful around each other. He wouldnât clamp up anymore and you felt more at ease around him. You became friends. He never once mentioned that disasterous afternoon.
At home, on the evening of the incident, you shot Jungkook a text and slumped down on the couch. Your sister was out that night, so it was just you in the apartment. Normally, the eerie quiet wouldâve unsettled you and you wouldâve distracted yourself from your deafening thoughts. But that night you just let them scream, yell and tear at you.
It was an excruciating process, but in the end your head was clearer, your heart calmer. You still werenât quite there yet, but at least you made a first step out of the endless pit of desperation.
There were other things you noticed about yourself. Gradually you realized you didnât mind being on your own anymore. You rediscovered your love for drawing and created you own mandala art. You also learned to code your own website and now had a clickable version of your cv on the go. Although you made time for yourself, you werenât a hermit. You went out for drinks with Jisoo and soon asked Namjoon to take you along to your universityâs Math Club. There you met a lot of familiar faces that youâve encountered in class but never talked to. With them you spent animated evenings discussing stimulating math problems and exchanging incredibly bad math puns.
You also started noticing things about Jungkook. He wasnât as timid and shy as you initially thought. Once he got over his awkwardness, he turned out to be quite a cheeky and goofy guy. He teased you or told you silly jokes whenever you were on a break. Despite his obvious aversion for statistics, he still took your lessons very seriously. Diligently listening to your explanations and trying to solve the problems to the best of his abilities. His study-mode showed you other sides of him. The cute pout he had whenever he tried to hide his confusion. Or the two little ridges which formed between his eyes whenever he was concentrated and deep in thought. More often than not you fought the urge to smooth them out with your touch or even better, with a kiss.
âIs something wrong?â Jungkook asked when he caught you staring.
âNo,â you quickly said, âI was just thinking that you donât seem to have much trouble with regression analysis.â
âI donât know, the relationship between the variables just makes much more sense,â Jungkook said.
You looked at him and considered, âHmm, maybe you donât need my tutoring anymore?â
Brief dismay crossed Jungkookâs face. âMy finals are in three weeks. I think Iâd still prefer if you helped me revise the earlier chapters,â he said, âUnless you need more time to study for your own finals.â
Being in college meant that you were always in dire need of more time. That constant nagging voice in the back of your head telling you to study was an occupational disease. But you didnât have to kid yourself, those four hours a week spent on Jungkook werenât going to make or break your grade. Besides, you enjoyed spending time with him. You wondered if he felt the same.
âItâs alright, Iâll help you revise. Just donât embarrass me on your finals. I donât want Namjoon to tell me afterwards that you didnât manage to calculate the mean of the population or worse, read the scoring table upside down,â you teased him light-heartedly.
Jungkookâs ears turned bright red. âThat happened once!â he said, âHow long are you going to hold that over my head?â
You laughed at his indignation. âDonât forget, youâll get endless tangsuyuk if you pass.â

Note: LatteIsHorse-nim! Itâs only human to fear rejection. I can completely understand. I also have someone I really like. Sheâs really pretty, smart and funny. Spending time with her makes me really happy, but I never managed to tell her. Maybe we should both gather our courage and cheer each other on? Iâm not saying that drunken confessions are the way to go but consider this soju a symbolism for (liquid) courage.
Paper Note: This is a flexagon. Whenever you need a word of encouragement give it a flip!
Jungkook examined the hexagonal origami in his hands. On the outside it read âFlip Me!â
He gave the flexagon a flip. âJK youâre the best!â And another. âThe world needs more people like you!â And another. âDonât forget that LatteIsHorse is always rooting for you!â And another. âAja, aja, hwaiting!â And another. âThank you for being my friend!â
Jisoo barged into you room and flopped onto your bed. âAhhh! Iâm so glad you finally cleaned in here. Seriously, if I find another rancid noodle stuck to my clothes, Iâll call in a hazmat team.â
âI donât know why youâre complaining so much. Itâs not even your room,â you said.
âHey, where are you ever going to find a friend like me?â
Your friend sacrificed many a night away from college parties to binge watch handsome oppas sweep equally beautiful unnies off their feet with you. And she wasnât shy telling you that.
âLetâs go out tonight,â Jisoo suggested. She rolled back onto her feet and started walking around, inspecting your cleaning job.
âOur finals start in two weeks; I really donât want to spend my weekend nursing a hangover.â
âIâm not saying you have to get wasted. Tonight is the Pre-Game Night. We have to go!â Jisoo demanded.
The Finalâs Pre-Game Night was a campus-wide tradition. Every semester on the Friday a week before finals huge parties were thrown to signal the beginning of the end. It was like a dare â were you confident enough to get completely drunk and still hope to pass your finals? Naturally everybody on campus joined in and drank.
âNot getting wasted at a Pre-Game party? Thatâs like saying youâve decided you donât need to breathe. I really donât thinkâŚâ
âWhatâs this?â Jisoo suddenly interrupted. âLatteIsHorse-nim! Personally, Iâm a dipper, but I donât discriminate! I added some broth as service for you. Itâs chilly tonight. Donât catch a cold!â she read aloud, âLatteIsHorse-nim! Happy Childrenâs Day to you too! I added my favorite childhood drink, banana milk! I hope it brings back as many happy childhood memories for you as it does for me.â
You flung yourself across the room and almost tripped over your own feet trying to rip the receipts out of Jisooâs hands.
âOh. My. God. Is your take-out guy flirting with you?!â she asked.
âNo! Heâs just a friend. We send encouraging notes to each other,â you tried to explain.
Jisoo threw her hands in the air. âOkay thatâs it! Weâre going to the Pre-Game party, whether you want or not. You canât tell me that the only flirting interaction you have is with a stranger who delivers you tangsuyuk!â
The place Jisoo picked out was ram packed and buzzing with energy. It was an open dorm party; all the common rooms were transformed into dancefloors. Different types of music played from each corner of the building. Crates of alcohol were stacked against the walls.
The both of you grabbed a beer and made your way through the crowd.
âYouâre going to have fun tonight, alright?â
âI donât think this works that way,â you laughed.
âThen put some effort into it. We look way too cute for it to go to waste,â she said as you roamed around the floors and explored the different areas. You looked down on your dress. It was a pretty warm night; you had opted for a flowy summer dress with a blush pink floral pattern. Jisoo was right, it was cute.
You discovered a familiar face at the edge of the crowd. âSunbae!â you said.
Namjoon turned around gave you a surprised smile. âY/N! Out of all the places on campus, we meet each other here tonight. What are the chances?â
He was surrounded by a group of friends, you spotted Jungkook right behind him. The boy gave you an excited wave. A slow smile spread across your face. âI donât know, but why donât we ask Jungkook to calculate it for you?â
Namjoon let out a hearty laugh while Jungkook groaned in exasperation.
âDo you see what I have to put up with every week, hyung?â
âDidnât you just say itâs the best thing that happened to you?â Namjoon taunted, âYou have some nerve showing up in front of me tonight. You better ace your SA finals. Do you know how many favors I had to pull to get Y/N to tutor you?â
âWhat do you expect me to do?â Jungkook sputtered, âGo home and lock myself up on Pre-Game Night?â
If it werenât for Jisoo you wouldâve done just that. Speaking of Jisoo, your friend cleared her throat and gave you a painful nudge in the side.
âAh yes, uhm, Jisoo you already know Namjoon. This is Jungkook. You know, the guy Iâm tutoring.â
Jungkook gave her a small wave.
Jisoo didnât even try to hide her amazement. âThis is Jungkook? But youâre like wayyy cute!â She turned to you and added still loud enough for everyone to hear, âWhy didnât you tell me he was cute?!â
The embarrassment was obvious on Jungkookâs face. You could tell that Namjoon was getting a rush out of his dongsaengâs reaction and before he could provoke him any further you decided to jump in.
âWho wants to go dance?â you asked loudly. You turned around and headed to the dancefloor without waiting for any of them to respond.
âWhy didnât you tell me you were tutoring a hunk?â Jisoo muttered under her breath.
âHeâs not a hunk. Donât call him that.â
âYeah but heâs hot. You made him sound like he was a nerd.â
âHe is a nerd.â
Your friend gave you a glare, âWhy are we arguing about this? I know youâre not that oblivious.â
Of course you werenât oblivious to Jungkook, but you werenât going to tell Jisoo that.
âLetâs dance.â You grabbed Jisooâs hand and twirled her around.
Namjoon and his friends joined you on the dancefloor. The mood of the crowd was electric. Music pulsed through your veins. Drinks flowed, shots were downed, people pulled out their best, lamest, craziest dance moves. Everyone celebrated like the world was going to end.
After a while you became hot and needed a new drink. You looked around for Jisoo and saw her grinding up against one of Namjoonâs friends. Sheâd be busy for a while. You inconspicuously moved away from the group and decided to go get some fresh air. Â
âWait up,â Jungkook said as he appeared next to you, âare you getting something to drink? Iâll join you.â
His dark curls were slightly matted with sweat. His baggy t-shirt clung to his body. You werenât sure if it was the alcohol or Jisooâs damn voice whispering into your ear. He was hot.
You circled your arm through his and pulled him through the crowd. His muscles shifted under your touch. You grabbed two drinks from a crate and handed one to Jungkook, your nerves tingled when his hand brushed against yours. The both of you remained in comfortable silence, leisurely walking through the dorm, neither of you in a hurry to get back to your friends. You explored the facility areas, weaving through pounding and quiet parts of the building.
âYou look really nice tonight,â he said after a while.
The heels of your shoes echoed against marble floor of the dark hallway. âThanks, Jisoo raided my closet.â
âSheâs really something isnât she?â
âSheâs the best. Iâm grateful to have her as my friend.â
Somewhere further down the hallway you made out two figures pressed against the wall, probably trying to find a quiet place of their own.
âYou also look nice,â you said to Jungkook.
âIâm wearing the same things I always do,â Jungkook said, his voice turning shy.
You were getting closer to the couple. You could see how the guy was sticking his tongue down the girlâs throat. She seemed to enjoy it from the sounds she was making. Lucky them.
Your next words were definitely fuelled by your tipsy state, âI guess that means you always look nice.â Jungkook missed a step. You had to laugh at his blunder.
The couple in front of you broke apart and looked in your direction. More annoyed about being interrupted rather than embarrassed being caught. You were about to make a funny comment to Jungkook when your heart stopped and you froze.
A string of saliva still clung to the guyâs lips. His eyes widened when he recognized your face in the darkness. âY/N?â
Your breath hitched and your grip tightened around Jungkookâs arm. He glanced between you and the guy, the situation slowly dawning on him.
âWhy did you stop? Whoâs that?â, the girl whined.
âNo one,â the guy responded as he returned his attention to her and they started making out again.
Jungkook didnât know if he wanted to puke or punch that guy. A sharp pain in his arm brought him back to his senses. Your nails dug into his skin. He put his hand around yours and loosened your iron grip.
âLetâs go,â he said and quickly pulled you past the couple. You followed him in a daze. He stopped once you were outside of the building, hidden away in a quiet corner.
His hands reached for your face and he lifted your eyes to his. âBreathe.â
You closed your eyes, let out a long breath and let your head fall against the wall behind you. The horrible encounter replayed in your mind. You had to open your eyes again.
There he was right in front of you. Worried Jungkook, kind Jungkook, beautiful Jungkook.
Your hands reached behind his neck and you pulled him a bit closer. You tried to decipher his gaze, it was dark and yearning. Everything was a haze, the alcohol in your blood made you daring.
âKiss me,â you whispered.
His mouth crashed against yours. Your hands slipped up into his hair and your bodies entwined. You opened your lips and sucked in his hot breath. Your tongues found each other; he groaned at your taste.
He moved one of his hands down your side until he found purchase on your leg and hitched it up against his waist, pressing his body further into you. You let out a moan when his hips ground into yours.
All your senses drowned in Jungkook. You drowned in his scent, you drowned in his touch, you drowned in his heat. You tried to use Jungkook to drown out the grotesque image from before. Suddenly the heat of the moment disappeared, and a cold shower ran down your spine.
You broke away from your breathless kiss and put your hands against Jungkookâs chest to put some distance between you. He gave you a disoriented look.
âIâm sorry. We shouldnât have kissed.â
Jungkookâs eyes grew wide and alarmed. âDid I do something wrong?â
His lips were swollen, his hair was mussed. You wanted nothing more than to pull him back in, but you couldnât. Not here. Not like this. He deserved better.
You pushed yourself off the wall and gave him a small shove. He immediately let go of you and stepped back. âI shouldnât have kissed you like this,â was all you said before you ran back into the building.
The next day you woke up to a splitting headache and a heart full of regret. You really needed to talk to Jungkook and explain to him why you ran away the previous night, but you were too much of a coward to pick up your phone and contact him. You decided it was better to talk to him in person at school.
The following week at school you waited for him in the library. Your heart was in your throat. Your prepared speech played in an endless loop in your head.
âIâm sorry I ran away. I shouldnât have kissed you in that state. It wasnât fair to you. You deserve better than that.â
You looked down on your phone to check the time. A message blinked. You opened and read through it. Your heart sank. He wasnât coming. He wanted to study the last week before finals on his own. He thanked you for your time.
Slowly you got up and packed your bag. You blew it. You wanted to do him right, but you only caused him pain. Thinking back, you realized he gave and gave and gave and all you did was take. He was right to stay away from you. There was no way heâd be happy with someone like you.
The week passed and finals week commenced. You immersed yourself in your exams and tried to get over your heavy heart. You were pretty sure you aced Geometry II, but the Numerical Analysis exam was nothing but a blur.
Although your heart ached, you didnât fall back into the same dark pit of the past. You didnât feel lost, you got on with your life. Nobody noticed the Jungkook-sized hole in your heart except for you. You wanted to talk about your feelings, but you didnât think Jisoo or your sister would understand. Theyâd probably just tell you to get out there and find a new guy.
Another week passed. You were walking out of your professorâs office, finalizing the details of your summer internship, when you bumped into Namjoon.
âY/N! What are you doing here? Arenât you off for summer break yet?â he asked.
âI was just discussing my internship with Prof. Kim,â you said.
âAh youâre participating in his research program?â Namjoon said, âI heard itâs really interesting, heâs intense though.â
âI think intense is fine for me, I need something to do with my brain. Otherwise Iâll just go crazy,â you said with a smile.
âSpeaking of intense, what did you do to that kid?â Namjoon suddenly asked.
You tensed. Did something happen to Jungkook? âWhat do you mean?â
âDid you brainwash him or something? He got a 98 on his SA final! When I handed him over to you, he was still asking me why the positive and negative z-scores tables had different values,â Namjoon said in awe.
Relief washed through you and your chest filled with pride. âWatch out sunbae, I might be coming for your TA position,â you said with a wink.
At home you sprawled out on the couch. Your sisterâs classes ended earlier than yours so now she was away with her friends travelling the countryside. Your mind wandered as you stared up at the ceiling of your quiet apartment. You really wanted to call Jungkook and congratulate him, but you didnât think you should. He clearly didnât want to be in contact with you, you hadnât heard anything from him since his text canceling your study sessions.
A pang of sadness washed through you. It should have been a happy moment for the both of you, you should be eating tangsuyuk together right now. You really wanted to tell someone about your joy and your grief.
Then you suddenly remembered your friend. Your friend who never judged and always had something wise to say. Maybe he would understand the conflicts of your heart. You got up and dug through the receipts on your desk until you found the one with his phone number on it.
You hoped he wouldnât think you were crazy, but then again, he was the one who offered himself to talk to you any time. You typed in the number and hit call. Your phone dialed when suddenly the number displayed switched to a name. Jungkook.
You quickly hit the cancel button and stared at your phone. Did you accidentally hit Jungkookâs contact? Was your phone broken? This time you typed in the number more carefully and hit call. Again, the display switched to Jungkookâs name. You hit cancel.
Your heart began to race. You opened up Jungkookâs contact and compared it with the number on the receipt.
Holy shit.
JK was Jungkook. Jungkook was JK.
The stranger who cheered you on and made you smile whenever you felt down was Jungkook. You combed through all your receipts and reread them one by one. What was the probability for this to happen? This was so bizarre, but it made so much sense. Jungkook was the kindest person you knew. Why wouldnât he be kind to a stranger who needed some uplifting words and comforting tangsuyuk?

Jungkook hesitated before he followed you inside. He moved up to the table and unloaded his box. He tried to steady himself. âYouâre LatteIsHorse-nim?â he asked skeptically, âIâve been here before. Last time someone else opened the door.â
He has visited you before? âOh, that was probably my sister. I live here with her. Sheâs out travelling right now.â
âSo youâre on your own right now? Why did you order so much food?â he asked. A giant mountain of neatly stacked dishes graced the table.
You came up and pried the metal box out of his hand. Then you moved in front of him and unclasped his bike helmet. He flinched at your sudden closeness.
âTo celebrate. Congratulations on passing your Statistical Analysis exam. Namjoon told me you passed in flying colors,â you said in a gentle voice. âI promised you the best Chinese take-out in town, didnât I?â
Jungkook still looked shell-shocked and simply stared at you.
âIâm sorry about that night at the Pre-Game party. Iâm sorry I ran away. I owe you an explanation.â
Jungkook regained his wits and swallowed. âItâs okay, you donât have to explain yourself. I get it, we were drunk. It was a mistake.â He looked down and tried to turn back around.
You grabbed onto his hands before he could move away. âJungkook, look at me.â
He stopped turning, but his eyes remained on the floor.
You took a deep breath and squeezed his hands. âI really like you. Iâve really liked you for a while now.â
His eyes shot up to your face.
âThe reason why I ran away that night was because I felt guilty. I probably wouldâve ended up kissing you anyway, but in that moment, I kissed you because I wanted to forget. I didnât want our first kiss to be like that. I wanted it to be the me who liked you and not the me who tried to drown out her shitty ex-boyfriend. Iâm sorry if I hurt you.â
There was an unreadable look in his eyes. Your heart fluttered in nervousness. âHow long have you known I was JK? How long did you know I had a crush on you?â he asked.
You could feel your blood rushing through your ears, the butterflies in your stomach beat like crazy. âSince today. I was sad because I thought I couldnât share the promised meal with you. I wanted a friend to talk to, so I thought to call you. You who was always kind to me, even when I wasnât kind to myself. Isnât fate strange? We cheered each other on to find each other.â You had to laugh at the irony of it all.
Your hand hesitantly moved up to his face and stroked across his cheek, âIâm sorry I hurt you. Iâm sorry I made you sad.â
Jungkook melted against your touch. âIf Iâm never sad, I wonât know when Iâm happy.â Then he closed the gap and pressed his lips against yours.
It was a sweet but sad kiss. Filled with happiness and sorrow. Every touch was filled with an âI missed youâ or an âIâm sorryâ.
Jungkook pressed you against the edge of your dining table, he lifted you up and you wrapped your legs around his waist. You both deepened your kiss. Your hands snaked through his hair and pulled him closer into you. Jungkook braced his hands against the table and instinctively ground his hips against your core. You moaned his name at the sensation. The both of you broke apart to catch your breaths, you pulled at his jacket and removed his layers of clothing.
You stilled at the sight of his bare chest. He was truly beautiful. Your fingers traced along his skin and marvelled at its silkiness. Jungkook shuddered under your touch. His hands moved under your shirt and you both lifted it off your head. Then you gripped his hands and slowly led them around your back, urging him to take off your bra. You wriggled out of your jeans and laid yourself completely bare in front of him. Jungkook stopped and stared at you, equally amazed.
âYouâre so beautiful,â he whispered.
Your heart swelled and you pulled him back into a kiss. Both his kisses and his hands left a burning trail down your body. His mouth sucked on the soft skin of your neck while his hands moved across your breast, across your stomach, lower and lower. Wetness gathered between your legs.
âJungkook,â you sighed. The muscles of his back shifted under your touch.
He released your neck with a loud smack and looked at the artwork he created. He still couldnât get over how overwhelmingly beautiful you were. Your cheeks flushed, eyes bright and his name at the tip of your tongue. He felt himself strain against his confines.
âPlease,â you whimpered. You looked down at his hand and tried to silently command him to touch you.
He kept his eyes trained on your face when his fingers moved lower and slid through your folds. Another moan left your lovely lips. He teased you with his touches, gathering your wetness until he finally pushed down where you wanted him most. Your hands dug into his back, your hips bucked, and you threw your head back in pleasure. He steadied your hips with his other hand and slowly pushed a finger inside of you. Another loud moan echoed through the room.
Jungkook was transfixed by you. He added a second finger and started pushing in and out. Your eyes squeezed shut in pleasure and small breathless pants left your mouth. Jungkook increased the speed of his movement and marvelled at the way you reacted under his touch. Then he moved his mouth to your breast and closed his lips around your nipple. You raked your hands through his hair and arched into him. Your core tightened around his fingers. All your nerves were on fire.
You pulled him away from your breast and guided his mouth back to yours. Your tongue traced his lips and you swallowed his moan. You wanted more, you wanted him closer. His fingers curled and his thumb pressed down on you. Jungkook held you tight as you shuddered and fell apart around him.
He rested his forehead against yours, your breath mingled as you both panted into each other. He slowly removed his hand from you and traced his mouth with his slicked fingers, then he moved them to your lips. Your tongue licked the tips of his fingers. His grip tightened around your waist.
âI want to feel you,â you said.
Jungkook shuddered at your words. âWhere is your room?â
âThe door behind you.â
Jungkook lifted you off the table, you tightened your legs around him and gave him another kiss. He walked you both to your room and gently laid you down on your bed. He took off his pants, then slowly moved onto the bed and hovered above you.
âTell me what you want,â he said.
Your fingers caressed his face. âI want you to be happy.â
Another shudder ran through him. âI am happy. What else?â
You traced his eyes, his nose, his lips. âI want to be the one making you happy.â
Jungkook couldnât contain himself anymore. His heart felt like it was about to explode. He covered your body with his and pressed himself into you. Your eyes rolled back as he entered you slowly. You felt so full you wanted to burst out of your skin. You could feel how the Jungkook-sized whole in your heart filled up again.
He rocked into you and took your breath away. Your nails raked across his back and left red lines against his smooth skin. Jungkook ducked his head into the crook of your neck and moaned against your skin. Every pull dragged pleasure out of you, every push brought you closer together.
You wanted more. Jungkook gave you more.
You wanted him closer. Jungkook pushed deeper into you.
With every moan, Jungkook pushed harder, pushed deeper. He wanted to melt into you. He wanted the lines between you and him to disappear. Your desire was his desire. His pleasure was your pleasure. Â
Jungkook could feel you tightening around him. He moved his mouth over yours and gave you an ardent kiss. The light of your desire turned brighter and brighter until it burst apart into a thousand little flames. You cried against his lips and let the heat consume you. Your body pulsed around his and the overwhelming sensation brought him right over the edge with you.
The both of you laid on your bed and clung to each other. Neither of you willing to let the other go. Your pounding chests beat in tandem. Jungkook stroked his hand across your hair and kissed your head.
âI want you to be happy too,â he said.
âI know,â you said as you smiled against his chest, âYou make me happy.â
Jungkook pulled you tighter into him and you remained silent for a while. His hand traced lazy patterns against your skin. Your breathing evened out.
âAre you allergic to pineapple?â he suddenly asked.
You looked up at him in surprise. âNo. Why?â
âBecause you always order tangsuyuk without pineapple.â
âOh. Thatâs because my sister hates pineapple.â
Jungkook frowned, you pulled yourself up and kissed the little ridges between his eyes.
âWhat?â you asked.
âI think the jjajangmyeon is all soggy by now,â he said.
You had to laugh. âProbably, but the tangsuyuk should still taste great.â
Jungkook kissed you with a smile. âYouâre right, tangsuyuk always tastes great.â

What are your thoughts on tua S2? Did you feel like the characters grew? What did you like? What did you not? Iâm interested in your perspective. Your analysis are super thoughtful and interesting!
Aw, thanks, Anon!
Overall, I really enjoyed S2 and thought it was a solid follow-up to S1. I do have my quibbles about it, so I think (for ease of reference and because my thoughts are a little scattered today) Iâll list some of my personal highlights (in no particular order) before getting into what I didnât like as much.
Big spoilers ahead.
Allison. I thought they handled her storyline especially well. Of all the siblings, I think she had the most difficult obstacles placed in her way (not only is she a Black woman landing in 1961 Dallas, but sheâs a Black woman landing in 1961 Dallas who canât even speak in her own defense for a year) and they sugarcoated exactly none of it. The writers pulled no punches when showing what civil rights protesters went through, which just made their nonviolent response all the more breathtaking. Allisonâs fear and anger during those scenes were palpable even as she kept them hidden. But along with that horror, we see the kindness and warmth of the Dallas Black community, the women who take her in simply because she needs their help, and her love for Ray, perhaps heretofore THE most thoughtful husband ever portrayed on screen. I loved him, and I loved him and Allison together. While I understand and respect his choice to stay in 1963, I wish theyâd gotten more time together. They both deserved it.
Vanya. We got to see how much the baggage from her past affected her by glimpsing what she might be like if it were taken away. Itâs an interesting philosophical question, and it was explored well, in my opinion. She finds it easier to love and be loved, and she stands up for herself more readilyâbut she also doesnât hesitate to use powers she canât quite control and threatens Five without fully realizing how dire her threat is (or how it might dredge up traumatic memories she doesnât know exist). The moment where Ben finds her curled up, fully convinced sheâs a monster, was heartbreaking. I loved watching her find happiness with Sissy, even if that was fleeting (and dear god, Sissy deserved her happy ending with Vanya, dammit, I donât care if it would fuck up the timeline). Her patience and sweetness with Harlan were just beautiful. And the way she used the confidence she gained during her amnesia to fully come into her own not to exact revenge on her siblings, but to save them, was fucking phenomenal.
The humor. There was a lot more humor this season, and it was awesome. So many iconic scenesâOlga Foroga, Luther babysitting two homicidal Fives, Elliot awkwardly lecturing his guests on the history of Jello, âNEW TIMELINE NEW ME,â âYour vagina needs glasses,â AJ the fish gobbling up the cigarette bubbles, Five getting to say âfuckââŚ.this season was a lot funnier than the previous one, and I think that was one of its strengths.
Klausâ cult. It was played for laughs, which I both expected and thought was the best way to handle it. He didnât want to start a new religion with himself at the center; he just wanted to not get thrown out of any more diners, but Destinyâs Children had other ideas. The âI too am a fraud!â scene was hilarious and tickled the question of whether or not a religion founded on false pretenses can still help those within it find meaning.
Luther. Getting him away from his dad, his siblings, and the Academy was exactly what he needed to become the pure of heart and dumb of ass genius we always knew he was, but his first major step in that direction was heartbreaking. We all knew heâd be rejected once he got to the Academy. We all knew Reginald would rip his heart out and stomp on it in his admittedly fashionable shoes. It gets Luther out on his own and forces him to become his own person apart from his dad, but that doesnât make it any easier to watch. He got the positive character development he needed, but the catalyst was tragic.
Diego. We see, for the first time, exactly how Reginald kept him in lineânot with meds or with PTSD-inducing torture, but with words. Even when he knows Diego as little more than a stranger, Reginald is able to rip off his skin and fling it in his face with a single diatribe; and even at 30, with years away from his dad, Diego is left unable to speak, feeling as if all of his accomplishments up to that point were the work of a dumb kid who thought he was smarter and more capable than he actually was.
Luther and Diego sharing a braincell. Luther has bad ideas. Diego has bad ideas. When they put their bad ideas together, they get terrible ideas. I loved watching them work together as a team, rather than being at each othersâ throats for most of the season, even if Iâm left hoping Olga Foroga had a pleasant and quiet day after that phone call.
Reginald. At first glance, it may look like the writers were trying to make him likable so they could parade him around as your average abusive-parent-with-a-soft-side. But itâs more nuanced than that. Abusive parents (and abusers in general) often fly under the radar because they fool outsiders into thinking theyâre good people. Theyâre active in their communities. They give to charity. They have friends who attest to their virtue, significant others who think theyâre the greatest. And thatâs what we see with Reginald. We see him as the rest of the world did: an intelligent, eccentric man with a sharp sense of humor who cared deeply about scientific advancement. Thatâs how he evaded suspicionâbecause there were stories from years past of lively parties at his mansion, of what a gentleman he was to Grace and of how he did everything he could to save little Pogo. But those stories would all have come from people he considered his equals. When heâs with people he considers his inferiorsâaka, the Umbrella kidsâheâs openly condescending and demeaning. We get to see how he fooled the world, and it is chilling.
Elliot. He deserved better, and you can ship him with any one of the Hargreeves kids and get the cutest thing ever.Â
The Swedes. They said so much while speaking very little.
Ben. He got more personality and screen time, and it was glorious. His love of his family and resentment toward Klaus practically leapt off the screen. The way he says âIâve missed you allâŚso muchâ once theyâve all left was one of those right-in-the-feels moments; and watching him get so much of what heâs wanted for years when he possesses Klaus was beautiful.
Now, as for things I took issue withâŚ.
Ben. I understand why they ended his arc the way they did. I get that they were probably afraid the Klaus/Ben dynamic would grow stale if they didnât change it somehow and wanted to give him a larger role in S3. His death(???) was heartbreaking and extremely well-done. But it also wasnât foreshadowed. We never got any sense of what ghosts in the TUA âverse are, so the fact they can be destroyed by a ton of sound-turned-energy or by going too far into someoneâs psyche or whatever happenedâŚ.itâs not that it doesnât make sense so much as thereâs not enough evidence to determine whether or not it makes sense. It feels like the writers just kinda made that up so theyâd have a reason to change Benâs relationship dynamics, but if thatâs the case, couldnât they have done it another way? Couldnât they have made it so the immense energy or psychic woo-woo or whatever gave him a power-up instead of destroying him? Vanya transferred some of her energy into Harlan and brought him back to life. Couldnât something similar have happened with Ben? And if it tied him to Vanya as well as to Klaus, great! More fodder for angst and humor! (âVannyyyyyyyy, stop hogging Ben!â âYou got him for 17 years, Klaus, you can part with him for 20 minutes.â âGuys, donât I get a say in this?â) Iâm glad they didnât write him out of the series entirely, but I still wish theyâd kept him and all the character development heâd gotten throughout S2.
Episode 10. It looks like they tried to cram half a seasonâs worth of developments into 45 minutes. Twenty minutes in, Iâd already said âWait what the fuckâ half a dozen times. A lot of those moments were explained later on, and I was able to make enough inferences to fill in any lingering plot holes, butâŚstill. Too much stuff, too little time. E9 was a perfectly satisfying ending to the season. Yes, it leaves the siblings stranded in 1963, but they couldâve tied up those loose ends in the S3 premiere.
Lila. Sheâs an incredibly fun character, but her arc is kind of a mess. Most of that is due to E10, and I do feel that more time to let her arc breathe wouldâve worked wonders, but Iâm left feeling like her turn from âHandler is the best mom ever and I lurve Diego tooâ to âKILL DIEGO AND HIS EVIL FAMILYâ to âHandler is a bad mom and Diego is rightâ happened too quickly.
The Commission. Okay, so, the Handler announces the entire Board has been killed, and sheâs stepping in as director even though everyone appears to know sheâs been demoted (and demoted pretty severelyâshe went from having an office bigger than some apartments to being a case management drone). Thereâs suspicion and lots of it. But then, La Resistance isâŚ.ten or so people in a single room? And when she calls the temps agents to her side, thousands of them show up ready and willing to fight and die? I dunno. Just seems like there shouldâve been more splintering going on there. Again, I think they needed more time to tie everything up.
Aside from those complaints, I loved the season. I set aside most of a day to binge it, and I do not regret that decision at all.

Turns out you we're right, RWBY Volume 8 was the volume of desertion. Twiins Ink and Unicorn of War, two youtubers that have jumped ship after the latest volume (well UOW said they were taking a long break). Why do you think this was the breaking point for so many people?
Oh yeah, Iâve heard mention of that! I donât watch either of their stuff, but Iâm sorry for those who enjoy -- and are now losing -- their content.Â
There really are a lot of people jumping ship, huh? I mentioned this in some ask a while back, but Iâd guess that it has something to do with these problems impacting characters the majority of the fandom enjoys. Volume 6 was a problem for me because of how Ozpin and Oscar were treated... but a good chunk of the fandom hates Ozpin and is meh about Oscar. Volume 7 was a problem for me because of how it handled Ironwood and continued to praise the group for stupid stuff... but a good chunk of the fandom hates Ironwood and thinks the group is faultless, just as the show intends.Â
Now, compare that to Volume 8:Â
The group is still being praised, but now itâs for literally sitting around. Itâs like a combination of Volume 5 (fans frustrated with presumably boring, passive content) and an uncomfortable look at what some of us have said since Volume 6: is the group really acting heroic? Defending their choice to steal an airship to (supposedly) save the world is easier to do than defending their choice to sit around in a mansion while the world burns. People still did it, definitely, but the longer they stayed the harder that got
Oscar finally gets some development, but itâs tied up in retconning Ozpinâs cane, having him save the day instead of Ruby, and a contradictory statements about who took on the torture
Oscar was also, you know, tortured and a lot of people werenât comfortable with thatÂ
Ironwoodâs everything. Thereâs definitely a ton of fans who have considered him a baddie since his introduction and were thrilled to see him fall, but the people who considered him a hero and were disappointed in the swerve are sizable too. Combine that with the let down from Volume 7 wherein we moved from a morally gray Ironwood to a cartoon villain IronwoodÂ
Even those who absolutely despise his character didnât get the satisfaction of actually seeing him die on screenÂ
Pennyâs everything too. The fandom loves her and many were willing to overlook the terrible hacking arc, but turning her human was obviously a divisive decision. And then she died! Again! Literally what was the point of any of that?Â
Just to top things off, Jaune is the one who helps in an assisted suicide. This has the dual problem of upsetting fans who are sick of Jaune stealing the spotlight (in a volume where Ruby did incredibly little) and those who, like with Oscarâs torture, were uncomfortable with the suicide itself
The end of the volume didnât get a lot of people excited for Volume 9. Partly because (again) Jaune is along for the ride, more-so because thereâs an expectation that RWBYJ will be missing out on all the real action happening in Vacuo. This also means two of the characters a lot of fans are excited for, Emerald and Sun, may not appear until Volume 10
Not enough death and destruction as expected for the next Fall, with the exception of killing off the one character whoâd already been through that (Penny) and our arguably most entertaining villain (Watts)
As for Cinder... sheâs always divisive. Her backstory (coming way too late), losing to Penny (another annoying defeat), only to win when the plot needed her to (that doesnât make sense), is a messÂ
No bees confirmation. The frustration for that is reaching its peakÂ
Dropped plot-lines that fans, while not thrilled about for some reasons, were nevertheless excited about for others. That includes the Hound being killed so quickly and no Qrow vs. Ironwood fight
Speaking of the Hound, when the grimm!Summer theory dropped a lot of fans (myself included) went, âlol fun crack theory but that would be ridiculous to actually do in canonâ and then they... did it
So I think itâs a lot of stuff going on at once:Â
The sheer number of controversial decisions this volumeÂ
The fact that this stuff is now impacting more popular characters, not just characters the majority of the fandom dislikes or is indifferent to
The sustained nature of the bad writing. Some fans are only just starting to go, âI hope Volume 9 is better than that...â but others are at the, âWe had that hope back in Volume 5/6/7 and it hasnât gotten better, so...âÂ
RWBYâs insensitive handling of certain topics, another long-term problem that fans are reaching a breaking point with: no Blake/Yang confirmation, Marrow makes comments about being âcollaredâ before heâs beat up by Winter, the triple amputee with PTSD is the villain, etc.Â
Finally, top it all off with RTâs numerous controversies lately, both the big (their workplace environment) and the small (joking about killing Ironwood off). If the company looks bad, what they produce looks bad too
Actually, finally finally toss in a beyond stressful pandemic whose main preventative measure means that a lot of people have been home for the last year watching tons of TV. Arguably better TV. The combination of âI need things that unambiguously make me happy right now, no dramaâ and âIâve binged so much quality stuff I didnât have time for beforeâ might have had some fans looking at RWBY in a new lightÂ

THE BROTHERS GETTING NIGHTMARES ABOUT MC'S SACRIFICE
Thank you for requesting, @iwasoffline
Although, next time, try sending it to my inbox if requests are open^^
LUCIFER
âHe didn't know what hit him, but he knew damn well that he couldn't see anything.
âEverything was dark, until a light shone ahead of him.
âA single person was on the light, their face way too familiar for him. Their bones seemed to be broken, as they seemed to be crawling on the ground in an inhuman manner.
âTheir body was getting crushed then brought back again.
âA wave of guilt crushed him. He knew he hadn't done anything to bring them back.
âHe hadn't even tried, because he was so sure that there was nothing he could do.
â"You..." MC seethed, their voice echoing, almost demonic. "It's all your fault."
â"Huh?"
â"You always loved Lilith more," they started moving around him. It was as though their body was a mist, yet it felt as if he was suffocating. "You always wanted her instead of me."
â"Not true.."
â"Are you happy now? Did Diavolo get mad? Are you proud?"
âHe fell on his knees, shutting his ears with his eyes; he refused to listen.
âAnd in a swift moment, it was all over.
âHe awoke in cold sweat, but he refused to acknowledge it.
âFrom the on, he spent many sleepless nights, refusing to do as much as even lying down on his bed.
â"Sorry," he would occasionally mumble if he happened to pass by their room.
â"I'm so sorry."
MAMMOM
âHe already rarely slept, deciding to forget his sorrows by partying and gambling.
âHis nights were long and sleepless, but no matter his inhuman strength (both mental and physical), he couldn't help but collapse on his bed.
âHe swears he shut his eyes just for a moment, but that was enough.
âHe saw a grim figure standing away from him, yet their aura was familiar.
âHe tried to reach out to them, hands shaking, but they gave him the cold shoulder.
âHe tried, again, and again, yelling, screaming, begging, but nothing.
âFinally, they raised their chin and looked at him. "Why should I talk to you?"
âHis breath hitched.
â"After all, you're the scum who forced me to do this. Not that an idiot like you would ever admit it."
âHis eyes widened as he started running away, refusing to listen to it.
âHe woke up in cold sweat shortly after and curled up inside his covers.
âIt was all a nightmare.
âHe knew that much.
âBut why was it so real?
LEVIATHAN
âLeviathan refused to sleep.
âAll these years of staying up for days to no end to binge anime came useful, for once.
âHe knew that if he dared close his eyes for a bit, he'd see something.
âAnd he wasn't wrong.
âOne day, out of pure carelessness, he fell asleep in his bathtub.
âHe saw MC, hang on a wall, them getting hurt and tortured.
âHe wanted to scream "Stop!" but no sound was coming out.
âAfter agonising moments of just watching, MC seemingly lifeless, turned their head towards him.
â"Leviathan... It's because of youâŚ"
âTears started steaming down his face.
â"Because of you I'm here now... I won't forgive you... Never will."
âThe lump in his throat disappeared, and he screamed; it was so loud that it awoke him.
âNormally, he'd shake off a nightmare with anime, but he couldn't do that, he was too shaken up.
âEven his beloved TSL reminded him of MC and how because of him, the worthless otaku, they were now getting tortured for eternity.
SATAN
âHe was good at handling the night terrors.
âHe had predicted something would have happened, so he put spells on himself to keep these thoughts out.
âHowever, everything seemed to trigger him, and had multiple fits of anger.
âSo much that he forgot to put the spell a particular night.
âFalling asleep on his chair, book in his hands, his breath slowly became unsteady.
âHe didn't even manage to see much of MC being tortured. Just a small cut-scene, fairly blur, but it was enough to trigger his anger.
âYet, when he awoke, tears were streaming down his face.
âHe started searching among the scattered books on his floor, looking for millionth time for a solution.
âThey had to come back. No matter the cost.
ASMODEUS
âHe was just sleeping peacefully
âWell, as peacefully as he could. That moment was still engraved in his memory after all...
âHe was having a nice dream, though, sitting with them, MC, enjoying some classic spa products.
âBefore they started whispering things... It was fast, ominous, horrible.
â"It's your fault..."
âThat's what all these whispers said.
âAnd he got up, jolted from his bed, but... He fell back down, letting the mattress consume him
âHe knew it was true.
âTrying to deny something that was true, so true it hurt living with himself every day, hitting on people, hoping it'd feel the same with them.
âBut no. It never would.
âSo he lay there in bed, a sobbing, apologising mess.
BEELZEBUB
âBeelzebub was having even more nightmares when MC left in Lilith's place.
âHe always saw horrendous things, stuff that made him wake up in cold sweat.
â"It's your fault," they'd whispered each and every time before an anguished screamed escaped their lips.
âAnd the worst part was that it was true.
âIt truly was his fault.
âLilith this, Lilith that.
âHe'd even mistaken them for her.
âHow could he ever do it to them?
âIt was all his fault MC left.
âAnd unlike his sister, they weren't coming back.
BELPHEGOR
âFor the most part, he tried to control his dreams.
âAnd it did work... Until it didn't.
âHe saw his beloved, the one who he himself had tried to murder, getting hurt over and over.
â"Belphegor..." they whispered, their voice laced with malice. "How could you do this to me..?"
âHe didn't want to hear it anymore, so he just stopped.
âHe sat up on his bed, sweat dripping down his forehead.
âHugging his pillow, he looked over at his brother.
âHe decided to enter his dream, make it a pleasant one, and stay there.
âIt's better to ignore it and move on.

Love languages ft. Momagon and Cathy
I'm gonna put this under the cut because it's too long and scrolling past it would be torture otherwise.
I really like the idea of these two having a wholesome and fluffy dynamic so this is pretty much my headcanons of them understanding each other's way to express love.
At first, I thought it'd be pretty cool if they both had the same love language but on second thought I can think of more shenanigans caused by them showing their love differently with Lina's love language being words of affirmation and Cathy's being acts of service.
Imagine Lina finding Cathy washing all the dishes she stashed in her room in the course of a week and going "I'm proud of you" before smiling at her and leaving.
Or every day at a different time she randomly asks Cathy "Have I told you I love you?" And Cathy answers a very confused yes because of course she has, she does it all the time and then Lina goes "Today?" And Cathy is just a little annoyed at herself because even though Lina always asks the same thing she keeps falling for it.
Some days there's a follow up of "I'm very proud of you and I'm happy to be your friend", some others Cathy realizes what Lina is doing and decides to mess with her and says that no, Catalina hasn't told her she's loved before wiping off a fake tear.
Sometimes they'll stay up talking in Lina's room until she's is too tired to stay awake any longer or Cathy will come in to tell her she's gonna try to sleep earlier and she asks Cathy to close the door on her way out, most nights the last thing she hears Lina say that day is "Good night Mija, try not to stay up too late", the first time Lina puts an "I love you" at the end of the sentence Cathy freezes for a good 10 seconds before awkwardly closing the door as quietly and slowly as possible.
While Lina would shout her love for her friends from the mountaintop without hesitation Cathy struggles to tell others she loves them, instead, she watches them, pays a lot of attention to their favorite things: colors, foods, hobbies, etc and silently makes sure they have everything they want or need:
They ran out of Jane's favorite tea? Don't worry, she bought another box because she noticed there were only a few bags left while making herself some coffee in the morning.
Anne likes the new hoodie she bought and jokes around saying she'll steal it from her? Well, Cathy likes it a lot too so giving it to her is out of the question, however, she can get her one that's the same as hers next time she goes to the mall, who knows, maybe they have it in green.
Kat is having a bad morning? She just has to find the source of the problem and if Kat wants help finding a solution or a distraction even if distracting her means playing Just Dance with her for hours and have her joints popping a few times per song, she can only hope that Kat will get bored of the game quickly and choose another one (preferably one that doesn't involve much movement).
Anna wants to go to a concert by a band none of the others particularly like? She already bought two first row tickets the second pre-sales started and while she's not as excited as her she thinks it's 100% worth it if she'll get to see Anna belting every song out, also she's used to Anna playing their music on the days they both sit in the living room to read or play a videogame and at this point she's committed a lot of their songs to memory so she'll probably have a lot of fun too.
Lina wants to binge-watch a show she's heard good things about with her? Hell yeah! She loves to watch stuff with her because if they both like it they can talk about it for hours, if Lina doesn't like it they'll just find something else to watch and if she doesn't like it she can take the opportunity to take a nap or tune it out and think about anything and everything.
Eventually, Lina realizes that Cathy also shows affection by smiling at them. It's very brief and not noticeable if you aren't looking at her and the only reason she saw it is because it happened so often, after seeing it for the first time she can't help but notice how much Cathy does it:
Every time she seats at the table with all of them, every time Jane drags her away from her desk to make sure she gets a proper meal and drinks water, every time Anna shows her something she enjoys, every time Kat helps her to find alternative ways of wording a sentence she's been struggling with, every time Anne returns a forgotten coffee mug to her reheated and ready for her to finish; and most importantly (in Lina's opinion): every time Lina tells her she loves her and is proud of her.

chapter 06: anime
previous | next
âHey, nice wings!â
âSorry, what?â
Marinette suddenly wanted to bury herself in a hole from embarrassment.
The moment Adrien walked in that morning, sheâd noticed the telltale Wings of Freedom keychain hanging from his bag. And, sure, theyâd been talking on end for nearly a month now. But still sheâd spent the whole day just working up the courage to approach him and mention the keychain, thinking maybe, finally, theyâd have something more to talk about other than school work and the occasional small talk, because mostly he talked about things she already knew from stalking him⌠not like she was going to tell him that, though.
And yet⌠yet he stood there, obvious confusion in his gorgeous green eyes, with a perfectly shaped eyebrow raised, like he had no idea what in the world she meant. Like the silver item was absolutely not hanging from the strap of his bag. Even though it so was.
Hence-- the want to bury herself in a hole. Ever the brave heroine, Marinette instead swallowed hard and forced a smile. âHanging on your bag. Itâs Wings of Freedom from Attack on Titan. I thought you having it meant youâd watched AOT. I guess not? You should though, itâs one of my favorite shows. Uh, I mean, not that you have to, you know, of course, I mean, who am I to force you to watch something, I just meant--â
Adrien cut her off with a chuckle. âOh! I forgot I left that hanging there. I actually have watched it though. I remember binging it one summer a few years back.â His smile to himself, probably remembering simpler times.
Marinette relaxed, and grinned. âI know what you mean. My parents used to get mad at me for sneaking down at midnight to watch episodes as soon as they were released. Uh, so are there any other animes you like, or is it just that oneâŚ?â
âI used to watch a lot, but that was back when I had a lot of time, you know?â He ran a hand through his hair nonchalantly. (How did he do that so effortlesslyâŚ)
âMhm!â Marinette nodded emphatically, mesmerized. âMe too! Uh, hey! Why donât we, uh, watch something⌠together? Thereâs an anime Iâve been wanting to watch, but I havenât⌠had a solid enough reason to. Although, of course, we donât have to if you donât want to,â she added hastily. âI-I just thought itâd be fun, you know, since we both hadnât watched in a while--â
âSounds fun!â
âI mean, I donât expect you to agree, I-- what did you say?â
Adrien chuckled. âI said, âsounds fun.â What did you want to watch?â
âUh.â Still reeling from the shock that heâd agreed so quickly, Marinette pulled out her phone. âI forgot the name, but Iâm pretty sure I had it on a list, lemme check.â She unlocked it and scrolled through her notes.
Once she found it, she grinned triumphantly, feeling lucky that sheâd managed to get this far in the conversation. âHere, itâs called, uh⌠ah.â
Marinette suddenly felt shy, her luck all gone. It seemed like cruel fate that this particular anime was next on her list, for her and Adrien to watch together. She cleared her throat. âItâs, uhm, called Kaguya-sama: Love is War. You might not like the genre, though, so itâs okay if you wanna watch something elseâŚâ Please let him want to watch something else. I wonât be able to take this internal torture, Marinette pleaded to the skies silently.
Instead, Adrienâs eyes shone excitedly. âOh, Iâve heard of that! The one where the guy and the girl like each other, but neither wants to lower their pride and admit it, right? So they come up with situations to force the other one to confess? Theyâre so funny-- it's adorable!â
âMore like relatable,â Marinette coughed to herself.
âSorry, I didnât catch thatâŚ?â
Marinette forced a laugh. âI said, âyup! Adorable.ââ
âSo, when should we start watching? You free Saturday night?â
âSure,â she said immediately, not one to turn down a possible? date with her crush.
Then her brain caught up with her heart, and she groaned. Saturday nights were movie-night-with-Alya nights⌠she was sure the brunette would not let a boy overrule movie nights. Even if that boy were radiant⌠carefree⌠dreamy⌠Adrien.
But what if⌠she merged movie night and anime night? Anyway, it was her turn to host movie night and choose what to watch. She had a feeling Alya would enjoy watching Kaguya-sama, especially knowing its summary⌠Marinette really didnât want to be on the receiving end of Alyaâs schemes yet again, but if it made it possible to watch with Adrien and Alya⌠she supposed it would be worth it just this once.
âSomething wrong?âAdrienâs voice cut in, his brow creased. âIf youâre not free Saturday night, itâs cool we can resched.â
âNo! Weâre good, Iâm good, youâre handsome-- I mean, itâs⌠awesome.â She cringed inwardly. âI can definitely do Sat, no prob-o. But, uh⌠is it okay if I invite Alya? I mean, the more the merrier, right?â
She almost thought Adrien looked disappointed at this, but if he were, he hid it well. âCool, I love Alya,â he said easily, grinning. (Marinette chose to ignore the pang that hit her at this. Why just Alya? How about an âI love Marinetteâ as well? She fought the urge to sigh.) âWe can invite Nino as well so itâs⌠even more fun I guess?â
âMhm, sounds like a plan. Iâll tell Alya, and you tell Nino?â
âOkay,â he said, waving goodbye and heading to his seat as the bell rang for class.
âIâll tell Alya,â huh? A lot easier said than done, Marinette thought, unsure how to break the news to her best friend.
.
.
.
âAlya,â Marinette started an hour later, after planning out an entire speech and writing down bullet points to rebut any arguments her best friend might have.
It all went out the window when the latter held up a hand, giving the ravenette a knowing smile.
âNo need to explain, I know.â
âWha--â
âConsidering we sit beside each other, you pass on information pretty slowly. Itâs been, like, 2 periodsâŚâ
Marinette spluttered, âI-- how-- who-- what.â
Alya held up her phone and waved it around. âHello? These exist? Nino texted me the second our break ended⌠(Though why he didnât just⌠tell me outright⌠I have no idea.) Weâve been texting back and forth, planning.â
Marinette practically sagged in relief. âOh, thank goodness.â She let out the breath she didnât know sheâd been holding. âAlya, you are absolutely the bestest friend ever, I donât deserve you--â
âHold your horses, donât get all sappy on me yet,â Alya interrupted, holding up a finger. âYouâre not cleared yet. One: I never thought youâd be the type of girl to ditch her best friend as soon as she got a boyfriend--â
âHeâs not--!â
â--but,â Alya continued, ignoring Marinetteâs profuse protests, âI completely forgive you, because I know you, and I know your heart often speaks before your brain can, and I know that you would never ditch me on purpose, especially when our agreement came first.â
Marinette gave the brunette the best puppy-dog eyes she could manage. âAlyaaaaa, you know I love you, right?â
Alya rolled her eyes playfully. âYes, girl, I know. Now put that expression away, it's creeping me out,â she laughed. âAnd I know youâre going to ask, so yes, there is a way to make it up to me, and that is: you have to invite Adrien to watch with you⌠like physically. Not over video call like we sometimes do. I want there to be popcorn and blankets and everything. If you two end up cuddling, even better.â
âCuddling?!â Marinette whisper-shouted, beet red. âWh-why would we--! I donât want to--! mean, yes, it would be nice, but we are just friends. Okay?â
The brunette laughed at her best friendâs reaction. âYou got it. But do we have a deal? You invite your boy over, Iâll come up with an excuse not to go, you bring me two packs of my favorite candy for our next movie night-- and I do not dwell over the fact that you forgot me, your best friend forever, when making plans with Adrien, the love of your life.â
Marinette wisely opted to ignore that last bit Alya said, and nodded firmly, shaking the latterâs outstretched hand.
âDeal.â
.
.
.
Adrien was packing his bag when Marinette walked up to him at the end of the day.
âHey, Adrien, about our anime thing on Saturday--â
âAnime?â a voice interrupted snarkily. Marinette turned and found none other than Chloe Bourgeois standing behind her, one hand on her hip. âYou seriously still watch that stuff? Isnât it, like, for kids or something?â She let out a laugh. âAlthough I donât know why I expected any different from you, Marinette Dupain-Cheng.â
Marinette was about to shoot back a retort when she felt a hand on her shoulder.
âChloe,â Adrien said patiently, âweâve talked about this. Anime isnât just for kids. Remember how our parents wouldnât let us watch Attack on Titan when we were 9 because it was scary? Anime can actually have different genres and all, and I think thatâs pretty neat. Iâm pretty excited actually to start a new one with Marinette.â (Marinette thought sheâd faint at this. But she managed to keep her cool.)
âOh, Adrikins, I totally agree!â Chloe said sweetly, batting her eyelashes. (Marinette fought the urge to throw up.) âI was only joking with Marinette, of course! Ha ha! Like friends do! I love anime! So, about this new show-- maybe I could watch it with you, hmm?â
âThat okay with you, Marinette?â
Hell no. âSure thing!â
This was going to be a disaster.
.
.
.
Adrien and Chloe showed up at her place 7pm that Saturday.
The plan was to binge as many episodes as they could. Marinette had set up her room with tons of pillows, so they could be comfortable watching from the floor. (Well⌠her and Adrien anyway. She was 99% sure Chloe would get just bored immediately and end up scrolling through social media, but whatever.)
They made their way up to her room after theyâd greeted her parents. (Marinette did her best to ignore the raised eyebrows her parents gave her, silently asking about Chloeâs presence. She herself honestly had no idea what to say about it.) Chloe flopped onto the couch in the middle of the room, crossing her legs as she unlocked her phone. Typical. But Marinette really hadnât expected anything else, so she ignored the blonde.
She set up the TV and brought bowls of popcorn to the piles of pillows where Adrien sat. She shyly took a seat beside him, grinning as she hit the play button.
They both settled in as the first episode began playing, starting with a speech likening love to war, wherein the person who falls in love first loses.
Marinette frowned at that. She wanted to disagree, but she kept her mouth shut when she saw the way Adrien was engrossed in watching. She noted the way his lips turned up at every joke and mouthed the words to the theme song.
She felt her heart squeeze at the sight. The opening speech be damned, sheâd never feel like she was on the losing side if she got the chance to fall in love with this precious boy.
Marinette looked at his hand on the floor, and tentatively reached out to put her own on top of his. So close--
She froze when she felt Chloe plop down beside her, ready to hear the blonde call her out on what she was trying to do. Instead, Chloe had her eyes glued to the TV, watching Kaguya and Shiroganeâs antics with rapt interest. Marinette nearly jumped when the other girl burst out in laughter at Shiroganeâs attempts to give love advice.
She still wanted to figuratively strangle Chloe for ruining her almost-moment, but as she watched both her companions drink in the show sheâd put on, Marinette thought that this might not turn out to be so bad, after all.
.
.
.
âSo, what did you think, Chloe?â Adrien asked as the three of them stood outside the bakery, waiting for Adrienâs and Chloeâs cars to pick them up.
âIt was⌠okay,â she scoffed, going for a nonchalant tone. âNothing special, I guess.â
(Chloe actually absolutely loved it, Marinette could tell, but of course the blonde would never for the life of her admit it.)
âBut maybe they were kinda cute. I donât see why people would flock to that kind of thing, though. I mean⌠where would you even download it, you know?â She flipped her hair over her shoulder. âNot like I really want to know, duh. It was a rhetorical question, of course. Up to you if you want to answer, but I really couldnât care less.â
Behind her back, Adrien and Marinette shared a smile and a fist bump. Marinette made it a point to loudly mention the name of the site theyâd watched on, adding, âI mean, Iâm sharing that just as a random fact, of course.â
Chloe typed something on her phone quickly, and huffed as her car pulled into the driveway. âWhatever, loser. Bye, Adrikins!â she said instead, getting in the backseat.
âSorry about inviting Chloe,â Adrien immediately apologized once it was just the two of them. âI really didnât know Alya wouldnât be coming, and Nino only told me right before that he wouldnât be able to make it. Sorry for ruining your night.â
âNo worries,â she said lightly. And surprisingly, she meant it. Not only did she get to spend hours with her crush, she also got to see a different side of Chloe Bourgeois, a side that made her think maybe the blonde was human after all. âIt was surprisingly fun even with her around. And I really enjoyed watching Kaguya. I⌠learned a lot.â
His eyes sparkled with amusement. âReally? What did you learn? Do enlighten me.â
âYour rideâs here,â she only said, pointing behind him.
He laughed. âWhat perfect timing, gave you an excuse to avoid my question. You must be hiding something.â
âI really donât know what you mean,â she replied, grinning.
âGood night, Marinette,â he said, turning to leave.
âGood night, Adrien,â she echoed, stuffing her hands in her jacket pockets and watching the car drive away.
She looked up at the stars, remembering one of the episodes theyâd just watched, and wondered what sheâd do if sheâd been in Kaguyaâs shoes. She wanted to say sheâd have been more firm about her feelings⌠but she had a feeling when the time came, she might find herself frozen in shock as well.
But one thing was for sure. There was no way she was going to deny her feelings any more. She most definitely liked Adrien Agreste as more than a friend, whether or not he liked her back. (Though of course she hoped it was the former.)
She was absolutely determined to make active decisions to get to know this blond-haired green-eyed boy more. No scheming and coming up with mind games to force him to confess. Sheâd confess if she had to, on her own terms.
And hopefully, hopefully, the day would come when she could say sheâd won the war that they call love, and when she could say, without a doubt, that he was hers.

four - hwang hyunjin
⢠prompt They say good things come in fours. Who? Couldnât tell you, but they especially do during Christmas. Maybe thatâs just Saint Nick. ⢠pairing hyunjin x female reader ⢠word count 11.7k ⢠genre fluff ⢠warnings swearing. mentions of alcohol & s e x. teenagerz being teenagerz. insane amount of fluff & stupidity. kind of ends w a smutty cliffhanger. ⢠summary After suppressing how you felt about Hyunjin back in high school, you thought you were done going back on your feelings. Turns out, a little time apart, the spirit of Christmas, and an accidental nap is the perfect cocktail for falling in love with your best friend.âfriends to lovers!au ⢠a/n hello & merry christmas! here is a gift for you all on this very merry day. also, thank you for 1,000 followers! that in itself is one of the best presents i could ask for. thank you for all your kindness & support on my blog & for following me in the first place! it truly means so much to me. i hope you enjoy reading! âĽď¸
big tiddy jinnyđŻđ§¸đđ[now] Sorry! I just woke up
big tiddy jinnyđŻđ§¸đđ[now] Whats wrong fool
big tiddy jinnyđŻđ§¸đđ[now] Did u rlly think 12 texts were gonna wake me up?đ¤Śđťââď¸ godt damn u on some WACK shit
You roll your eyes in time with each consecutive text that Hyunjin sends, waiting for the lock screen of your phone to blacken after reading them. Heâs about as useless as pedals on a wheelchair, you think, ignoring the texts and forcing the device into the snug back pocket of your jeans before transferring the last two excessively packed grocery bags into the trunk of your car with an exhausted huff. Christ, if the bagging lady put one more item in those bags, she would be the one to blame for six cans of soup rolling about the parking lot.
The license plate rattles when you slam the trunk lid closed before hurrying around to the driverâs side and anxiously hopping inside to start blasting the heat. It is obnoxiously chilly for the first of September. Well, not really. Your body is just beginning to get used to the ungodly wrath of summerâs sweltering heat leaving you in a constant state of sweat and nausea for the past three months. Not that youâre complaining, of course. You nearly did somersaults of joy when the morning news reported a temperature of sixty-one degrees with some wind gusts and welcomed the beginning signs of autumn with open arms.
You would never admit to Mom who told yo uon the way out to change out of a tank top or at least wear a jacket, but yesâ you are, in fact, cold. But now you have godsent warmth blowing from the vents and the seat warmer on its highest setting beginning to thaw away the goosebumps painted on your skin. Giving your arms one last rub, you lean up enough to retrieve your phone and open the conversation with Hyunjin.
[2:37 PM] YN:Â please. smell my balls
[2:37 PM] YN:Â nothings wrong btw. i was GOING to ask if u wanted any specific snacks for tn buttttt someone didnât answer
[2:37 PM] YN:Â and excuse u i called too. i may be an idiot but im not stupid
[2:38 PM] YN:Â ik u would never hear a text when ur having wet dreams of yeji
You stop there with a smug smirk when the three dots on his side appear, knowing youâve hit his funny bone with this one.
[2:38 PM] big tiddy jinnyđŻđ§¸đđ: Bruh
[2:38 PM] big tiddy jinnyđŻđ§¸đđ :Iâve literally never have had a wet dream ab Yeji pls stop
You cannot fight your shit-eating grin, thumbs circling over the keyboard in thought as he apparently deletes whatever other text he was going to send when the three dots disappear.
[2:38 PM] YN:Â mmhmmmm
[2:38 PM] YN:Â because last time you slept over you werenât whimpering her name in ur sleep
[2:38 PM] YN:Â sureeeee
You decide to end your teasing there and continue once youâre home. It is starting to get late, after all, and Mom will begin to worry that the creepy employee always in aisle sixteen has abducted you. Plus, youâre cruel and like to watch Hyunjin suffer. Switching the ringer off, you throw your phone into the cupholder and drastically lower the heat and turn off the seat warmer. Itâs starting to feel like a sauna in here, and not in a fun way. Canât understand how anyone enjoys hanging out in a sauna to begin with anyway, but to each their own, you guess.
In the five-minute drive it takes until you are pulling into the driveway, Hyunjin calls three times. He is incredibly peeved at your lack of a response to his distressed texts and still wound up from your text about Yeji. As if! Youâre already a clown not realizing his ever-growing affections for you, but to think he had a crush on Yeji? Youâre the whole damn circus!
By the time he calls a fifth time, now sat up on his elbow in bed and strumming an annoyed beat of his fingers at his thigh because he really just wants to yell at you for being the most annoying person alive (and maybe to hear your voice, too), you have brought in the last of the bags and look to Mom who has started to put the groceries away and expects you to half-heartedly do the same.
âItâs Hyunjin. Heâs having an existential crisis because I havenât answered his texts,â you explain to her, unenthusiastically holding your phone as it vibrates against your palm. Half of you wants her to ask to finish putting everything away first just so you can torture him even longer. Alas, such extravagant wishes are denied, because when it comes to Hyunjin, your parents would undoubtedly throw you under the bus just to keep that boy happy. And so, just like any other time, Momâs undying love for Hyunjin has her dismissing you from the kitchen with a hearty laugh.
âJesus Christ! What?â You hiss, halfway up the stairs when you tap to answer his call on the last ring.
âWow! Look who finally decided to answer!â Hyunjin shouts back, the swoosh of his sheets once he finally falls back against his pillow again rustling all too loudly through the phone. âI was driving,â you spit, marching into your bedroom and collapsing against your bed, the same rustle of your blankets sounding loudly into his ear. âThereâs a thing called the speaker, ___. Ever heard of it?â He retorts, evidently shutting you up and he knows he won this round if your silence is anything to go by.
âWhatever,â you groan, using all your toe strength to kick the sneakers off your feet by their soles, âwhat was so important that you couldnât wait and had to call me five billion times?â
âI had a question. And you hurt my feelings.â Well, shit. You can practically hear and see his pout through the phone and your heart positively swells in your chest at how undeniably, unjustifiably cute he is. You sigh.
âIâm sorry for making fun of you about Yeji. Iâm going to do it again but next time I promise I wonât pull the wet dream card,â you apologize frankly; because, in all honesty, it would be worse to say you are not going to do it again when you most certainly will. Bullying Hyunjin is fun, what can you say?
Hyunjin heaves an exasperated breath from his lungs because he knows there is no point in arguing with quite possibly the most sarcastic human he knows and thatâs the best form of an apology heâs going to get. Whatever. Heâll make sure to wipe his morning snot and droll on your shirt in the morning. âAnyway,â he grumbles, in the background you hear Kkami bark from a few rooms over, âI was going to ask if you wanted to come over my place instead? I know your parents probably want to see me and stuff but mine are out of town for the night so we can sleep in my bed until like three without Mom waking us up to force feed breakfast.â You roll your eyes. Of course your parents want to see him.
âPlus, Mom just put that grey comforter I know you really like on my bed so we can cuddle all night and watch stuff on YouTube,â he quickly adds as a convincing afterthought. Heâs really got his sales pitch going on this one. Truth is, you have only slept in his bed with that stupidly soft blanket twice last winter break, but itâs still sweet that he remembers how much you loved it (aka how quickly you fell asleep and how grumpy you were being woken up because itâs just that darn cozy). Either way, you would never pass up an opportunity to snuggle up with Hyunjin in the comfort of his own bed with his citrusy, floral scent on the pillows luring you to sleep.
âMy Mom is going to be heartbroken, Hyunjin,â you tease, âbut who cares. You had me sold at sleeping until three. Do you still want me to bring the snacks I got?â
âOh, thank God. I love your Momâs cooking but I havenât left bed all day and I really want to keep it that way. And yes, please. Iâve been eating dry cereal for the past two hours.â
âHyunjin, have you brushed your teeth yet?
âNo. Didnât you just hear me? I said Iâve been in bed all day. Eating cereal. When would I have brushed my teeth?â
âYouâve officially taken breakfast in bed to a whole new level, Jin. Iâll see you in a few hours. Oh, and please, you have no concept of personal space so make sure you brush your teeth before I come over.â
âYeah, yeah. Whatever. Love ya, bye,â Hyunjin promptly hangs up, probably eager to get back to binging whatever drama heâs watching before you lecture him about his hygiene again. Not that it matters, anyway; chances are, it went in one ear and right out the other and youâre going to drag him out of bed later to brush his teeth.
Damn. You didnât even get the chance to say love you back. Not that it matters.
It doesnât, you quickly shut down the pesky thought that keeps you up at night and force it back into the storage part of your brain labeled âDeal with Later,â because, really, youâll have to think about that later. Itâs not that you donât want to think about it yet⌠you just donât have the time to stop and really figure out what your feelings toward Hyunjin actually are. Yeah. Thatâs it.
And now isnât the time, you tell yourself, scooting up the mattress in order to bury your face in the pillows to suffocate the pounding throb in your head. Hyunjin is nothing special.
Well, no. Thatâs a lie. Everything about Hyunjin is special. Anyone with eyes, ears, even a nose can sense that. You had quickly found out just how wonderful he is when you met him freshman year of high school. At the time, he was everyoneâs sweetheart by the first day, but it just so happened his eyes were all on you.
He was obviously adorable, and every class you had together he always made a point to talk to you and returned your sarcasm with an impressive level of expertise. So, when it came to him asking you to the first homecoming, the answer was yes without a second thought. But during the last slow dance of the night, with his hands gently holding your waist, he at last listened to his conscience and revealed that as much as he liked you, he truly did not want to date in high school. Or right then, at least. And honestly, you were glad; Hyunjin was quite possibly your favorite person you had met thus far, and you would have rather kept him as a friend than commit to a relationship the second month of school and risk losing him later down the road.
And boy, keep him as a friend you did. As it turned out, Hyunjin grew to be your truest, best friend in high school. Sure, you each had your own friend groups, but the two of you were the iconic pair everybody knew. But strictly platonic, despite the rumors and wishes that went around for the next four years. You like to think that neither of you ever developed feelings past what everyone feels toward their best friendâ an innocent, wholesome sort of love.
But when had things changed? Hormones, as always, were definitely a big part of it. Hyunjin was always a cutie, but it wasnât until he grew into his own skin and developed a newfound confidence did you start to see him differently. Until everyone saw him differently. Neither of you missed the way people stared him down, pupils dilating every time he ran his fingers through the black tufts of his hair, hearts aching for some sort of interaction. Or when you started attending parties, groups of girls would fling themselves at him in a blundering disarray, most of which he would turn down with a gentle dismissal that flew over their heads, too drunk to actually care.
But then there were times his dick made the decision for him, desperation and deprivation weighing in on him and youâd watch with a tight jaw as heâd leave the room with the pretty girl of the night skipping after him. You never realized it was only on those nights did you wind up in the back seat of Han Jisungâs car.
But even after the physical attraction sizzled out over time, things were not the same. Hyunjin wasnât your hidden little treasure anymore. All eyes were set on him and it took more than a glass of water to swallow your jealousy. But why? Why were you so resentful all of a sudden?
Itâs hard to share Hwang Hyunjin, you decided. Once established that you were his main hoe and he was yours, it became a significant burden watching others try and get in between. Not that they did it with a malicious attempt to separate you, but it still hurt. Youâre selfish, and you admit itâ Hyunjin, quite frankly, is the love of your life. Romantic or not, nothing could change your feelings toward him. It goes beyond his unfathomable beauty and spunky personality. Everything about him from his nose to his hands, to his distaste for onions and the way his face scrunches up when he lets out that giggle of his and even to the way he prefers to sleep against the wall but will force you to when youâre over so he can âprotect you in case thereâs a monsterâ all mount into this big, giant section of your heart set aside for Hyunjin.
So despite your efforts to ignore the pang of jealousy each time he would find a potential someone or the joy whenever heâd find his way back because âthey kept wanting to hang out in the morning even though I said I donât wake up before noon,â this Hyunjin-shaped hole in your heart seems to only grow the longer you ignore it. Kind of like every medical condition out there: the longer you ignore it, the worse it gets. So, basically Hyunjin is your heart disease.
Yikes. Sounds a lot worse when you try putting it into words.
Well, he wonât be your heart defect for long if he keeps ruining those pearly whites of his by only brushing once just before bed, you chuckle to yourself, rolling to your side at the sudden lack of oxygen between your face and the pillow. Thereâs a fleeting moment without thought when you unconsciously reach for your phone to check for any notifications before the fattest revelation of them all falls from the ceiling and smacks you right upside the face.
Shit. Looks like youâve gone right ahead and totally dissected each and every fiber of your feelings for Hyunjin.
Blinking up at the ceiling, the weight of your emotions isnât as heavy as you expected them to be. Instead, itâs more of a breath of fresh air, as if you have finally accepted the way things fell instead of ignoring them. Your feelings for Hyunjin have always been there. It just took a little effort to get them out.
Nevertheless, it is going to be difficult hanging out with him in a few hours with your exposed emotions still needing to be processed. Especially when he will pull you to his side and keep you nestled there the entire night. Rubbing your temples, you realize it will take some serious self-control to put everything on the back burner and just enjoy the time spent with Hyunjin.
Sighing, you check the time on your phone again. 3:21 and a text from Hyunjin asking if you could bring green tea.
âMom!â You yell, defeated. âYou were right!â
You used to think Hyunjin lived far away. Truthfully, heâs only fifteen minutes away if you go ten over the speed limit. But the only way to get to his house entails driving through the chaos of the mall and town center, which adds an extra ten minutes sitting through traffic no matter the time of day.
Now, Hyunjinâs college campus is two hours away. Well, technically five from you, since youâre almost three hours away in the opposite direction. So youâre lucky if you get to see him once a month with how hectic school becomes and how difficult it is trying to plan to come home the same weekend. Fortunately, it has worked out this semester. And while you should spend this time with your families, they know how much you crave one anotherâs company as the weeks drag on. The twenty-two minutes it takes getting to each otherâs homes is totally worth it.
You expect Hyunjin to tell you to use the key hidden underneath the resin meditating frog statue in the front garden to unlock the front door when you text him you have arrived, but to your utmost surprise, heâs there, awake, to open the door for you.
Stinky!â You yell, dropping your things on the floor to burry yourself in his embrace, standing on your tippy toes to wrap your arms around his neck in order to really get the full experience of hugging your favorite giant. âPoopy!â He shouts in return, long arms winding tightly around your waist and even going so far as to lift you up a few inches. God. Hate when he does that.
âWhy are you up? I thought Iâd have to let myself in with you sleeping all your problems away,â you ask, smiling gratefully when he bends down to pick up your bag. âI realized Kkami hadnât been out all day, so I came down to let him out and find actual food,â Hyunjin explains as he makes way into the kitchen, opening the back door to let said dog back inside. âAw, poor thing,â you pout, squatting to scratch at Kkamiâs neck when he zooms faster than the speed of light to you, âdoes that mean you brushed your teeth?â
âI did, actually,â Hyunjin snorts right back, scrunching his nose at you before turning away to open the fridge. Sitting on the floor with Kkami in your lap, you take the opportunity to finally get a good look at Hyunjin now that heâs distracted. And of course, he looks good. Really good. Last time you saw him he still was a brunette, a look he rocked during the spring and summer months. This is the first time youâve seen the freshly dyed black hair in person. Even though he always looks handsome, something about Hyunjin with black hair completely changes his aura. Brings back memories of how badly you wanted him in high school. You shiver at the thought.
And, to top it all off, how he manages to stay in such disgustingly good shape despite his atrocious eating habits never ceases to amaze you. Like, come on. The boy eats worse than a raccoon seven days out of the week, lives off boba, works out maybe five times a month, dances in his free time and still keeps his body in tiptop shape. God, you hate him. His pediatrician probably hates him, too. You even go as far as to sniff the fries in your dining hall and you gain five pounds.
Even now, he looks unnecessarily regal in the baggy material of his sweatpants and flannel. And the warmth of his kitchenâs ambient lighting does nothing to suppress the heavy thumping of your heart. So casual is his dress, yet how immaculate he looks rummaging the cabinets for a snack.
âAre you hungry?â He asks, the familiar softness of his voice shaking you from your daze as he closes the refrigerator door after his unsuccessful search. Hereâs the thing: you really arenât hungry, but Hyunjin clearly is, so if you say no then all he will be thinking about is food until you decide that you are hungry. âYeah,â is what you say, nudging Kkami off your crossed legs to stand, âI brought green tea and a few snacks, but we could order Chinese food or something. The place near Dunkinâ and the gas station makes bubble tea now, too.â
Hyunjinâs brows shoot up, flashing his boxy smile. âIs it good?â
âI mean, Iâve only had their pork dumplings and mango tea before, and it was pretty good. I donât know about their noodles or anything, though,â you shrug, moving to stand beside him at the kitchen island. Distracted by Kkami trying to jump onto the sofa in the living room, you donât look to Hyunjin until the poor dog is successful in doing so. Startled to find him already gazing down at you, your heart truly is not prepared for him to go right ahead and wrap his arms around your waist, resting his chin on your shoulder. Totally not freaking out or trying to overthink his need to constantly cling, you justify his actions by quickly recalling the time he said, âMy head is too godtdamn big for my godtdamn body.â More like his head is too heavy because instead of a brain itâs just a chunk of cement up there. He just needs to rest his head sometimes.
Yeah.
âMm, I donât know,â Hyunjin hums, swaying your body with his to an unheard tune. By now, any coherent thought has dissipated into thin air and all you can do is melt against him. âWhy?â You manage.
ââCus if we order anything that means Iâll have to get up and get it.â
âOh my God, Hyunjin, really?â You laugh. Your hands naturally glide to where his are linked at your stomach, pressing to interlock your fingers overtop his. âIf thatâs the only reason for your uncertainty than IÂ could always come get it, idiot.â
âNo! Itâs okay,â Hyunjin says, jumping back before you can even process it, âIâm not that hungry anyway.â
âOhhh âkay,â you laugh breathlessly, whiplashed by the whole thing. Good thing you arenât hungry, because when was the last time Hyunjin turned down food? Blinking at him precariously, he doesnât seem to notice until one too many seconds of silence pass by.
âCâmon,â he demands excitedly, jumping back into reality, âmy roommate told me to watch this anime called Soul Eater but I wanted to watch it with you.â Once again, before anything can even register past every single That Was Cute⢠alarm ringing in your brain, Hyunjin is grabbing your bag and reaching for your hand, leading you out of the kitchen and upstairs.
You and Hyunjin binge aforementioned anime until he falls asleep first around 2 AM, only stopping to order food an hour in (heâs an indecisive man indeed), to get up to retrieve it, and to actually eat while catching up. For most of the night, you are able to forget the way his heartbeat against your back mirrored your own in the kitchen. But then, a little while after you fall asleep yourself, Hyunjin unconsciously shifts closer and you spend another hour blinking at his relaxed hand twitching against your abdomen, trying to keep the hurricane inside your heart at bay.
You canât make it home October. Hyunjin texted you to let you know he was going to be the third weekend in, and you tried desperately to manage your time in order to make it work. But one group project in chem lead to another paper in psych and before you knew it, your roommate was listening to you sob over a boy and curse out your classes.
September left you emotionally wrecked, to be totally honest. You hate Hyunjin and you hate the way he makes you feel and you especially hate how realizing you have a crush on him makes you unsure if everything he does is his way of hinting he feels the same or if heâs always been this touchy and you are just now recognizing it. So, missing a month of seeing your favorite human being essentially means missing another day of trying to decipher which actions of his go in the Friend list, and which go in the Questionable list. And that, my friend, is unacceptable.
You absolutely cannot not go home this month. November is the calm before the storm (the storm being exams looming the second week of December), and while it would be beneficial maybe staying on campus to continue preparing, you tell yourself going home will be just as helpful. Mental breaks, and stuff. Totally not just to see Hyunjin.
Either way, Hyunjin asks you if you would join him on the seventeenth to go to his second cousinâs christening and you absolutely cannot say no when you know how bored Hyunjin gets at family events when they arenât for him. And so, fast forward to the third Sunday of November and you are ready to pass out ten minutes after entering the church.
âIâm so happy for you two! I always knew you would last into college,â one of Hyunjinâs aunts exclaims, pinching your cheeks but the only pinch you feel is that of your heart.
Clearly she is misinformed, or just prone to jumping to conclusions but yet again, you canât really blame her with how couple-y you and Hyunjin are. Past the single tunnel vision of your gaze, you watch her smile falter when Hyunjin goes rigid beside you and oh my God this is the most embarrassing moment of my life, his whole family thinks weâre dating and here we are still stuck in each otherâs friendzâ
âIâm glad you think so, imo,â Hyunjin suddenly picks up, sneaking an arm around to rest his hand on your hip, tugging you close, âI donât know what Iâll do if she ever decides to leave me.â
Itâs nice to think that he means it, to imagine that you are here not as a tag-along but to join him in a family ceremony because you are part of the family. The thought turns your blood to sugar and everything surrounding you falls apart; you listen to the rest of their conversation without processing it, the precise detailing in the marble pillars blurs into a mass of white, and you still feel his strong hold on the curve of your waist yet you are lost in the swam of possibilities.
How lovely it would be to live up to her assumption. To âlast into collegeâ as a couple, not as best friends. To be able to call him yours even when youâre not together, to come home and kiss his lips, to sleep in his bed and it mean more than the laziness of blowing up the air mattress. At some point, he leads you into the third pew to sit beside his parents, and when you greet them with a hug all you can think about is them viewing you as more than their sonâs friend.
God, you hate it.
Youâre not as religious as Hyunjin and his family. But for the first time in years, you find yourself looking to the crucifix during the service and praying to whoever is up there to give you some strength and patience, because Lord do you need it.
Hyunjin is a funny guy.
Or so he thinks.
Itâs not that he isnât funny. Itâs justâ compared to your friends Minho or Changbin, he isnât at the top of the list. When you think of Hyunjin, the first words that pop up are soft, loud, and dramatic.
Itâs not that he isnât funny. Heâs just weird.
Insanely, ridiculously weird. For example, the time he called Jeongin a vitamin. Or the time he slapped half a bottle of sunscreen on his face. Or his random bouts of dancing at inappropriate moments. Just to name a few.
After the Baptism, Hyunjin acted like nothing happened. Didnât even bring it up. Not even a joke. After the ceremony, you joined his family for a luncheon, which just involved the two of you being weird and making peculiar dancing videos on SnapChat with the swirly filter and complaining about school for a few hours until he drove you home. Obviously you stopped for food again on the way.
But that was it. Things went on as normal, and you returned to campus later that night and forced the whole experience to the back of your brain. It was officially grind season, and grind season meant studying for exams. No parties. No boys. And certainly no Hyunjin.
You both were home for winter break in the blink of an eye. And in normal Hyunjin style, he sort of vanished for the first week. Probably catching up on his strict sleeping schedule, you presumed, and accepted the fact that it was going to be a few days before you saw or even heard from him. The only anticipation you felt was wanting to give him his Christmas gift.
After what seems like an eternity away from Hyunjin, you get out of the shower on this fine Saturday before Christmas to find a slew of texts from him.

See? Weird. Who wants froyo when itâs thirty degrees out?
[5:53 PM] YN:Â âaloha mamacitaâ
[5:53 PM] YN:Â uHmmmMMM
[5:53 PM] YN:Â im down mr president
[5:54 PM] YN:Â why do u want ice cream in winter tho. donât u want like
[5:54 PM] YN:Â hot chocolate or seomthing
Obviously not. Two hours later, Hyunjin arrives to pick you up for froyo despite all your efforts in convincing him maybe you could take the train to the city and watch a light show, or simply drive around and swoon over the rich people houses and their Christmas decorations. He didnât budge. This leads you to your second question of the day: why is it that when you threw on sweats for the occasion you called yourself a hag, but upon entering Hyunjinâs car you make a mental note of how hot he looks when heâs wearing the same exact thing? You groan at the thought. Itâs because itâs Hyunjin, of course.
âBonjour, mademoiselle,â he greets, flicking your forehead once you settle into the seat of his Subaru WRX because heâs a hotshot and likes to flex that he can drive a manual. Not reallyâ the car is absolute garbage by now, having been his Dadâs old car (his Dad likes to flex too, apparently). However, Hyunjin takes care of it enough for it to seem five years old instead of ten, and, either way, watching him work the stick shift is unexplainably hot.
You swat his hand away. âDrive, bitch,â you huff, twisting to buckle yourself in. Once heâs reversed out of your driveway, you glance back to find him fighting against a devilish smirk.
âSo,â you start once he has navigated out of your neighborhood. His brow twitches up. âAre you taking Hawaiian and French at school? Youâve been throwing quite a lot of languages at me recently.â Hyunjin shoots you an unamused look. You return it with a wrinkle of your nose.
âAnyway,â he ignores your teasing, pausing to switch gears for whatever reason so he can make it through a yellow light, âhow did your exams go?â
âWell, you knowâŚâ You trail off, looking to your window. It feels a lot later than eight oâclock. With it getting dark so early in the evening nowadays, it feels as if nighttime is always following you.
âYou know⌠what?â Hyunjin interrupts your daze, concern laced in his voice. âThey were fine. I passed everything, Iâm just worried about my major,â you explain sadly, barely glancing at him before you are turning back to the window to stare at the moon. Must be nice being a moon. Just get to hang out in the sky watching everyone and being watched.
âI mean, if you want to switch, nowâs the time. Better do it now before the second semester,â Hyunjin advises, wise as always. Not really, but heâs right. âWhat are you thinking of going into?â
Yikes. Heâs going to kill you.
âNursing,â you blurt.
âOh my Lanta, ___, are you serious?â He groans, stopping at a convenient red light presenting the perfect opportunity for him to smack his forehead on the wheel. Dramatic. âHow are you gonna manage that? Youâll practically be two years behind everyone else!â
âI know,â you sigh, throwing your head back on the headrest, âthatâs the problem. Bio just isnât doing it for me. I donât think I can spend the rest of my life in a lab watching mitosis. I need something more rewarding, so theoretically nursing is a perfect start. I donât know, though.â
âWhy donât you switch to interior design or something? We could get our own HGTV show, ___,â he says, but you donât meet his gaze when he glances over because beneath his words, you can sense some serious hopefulness. Interior design would be cool, but youâve never considered that as a career choice. You once helped your parents pick out everything when they redid a bathroom at home and that turned out great, but as a major?
âI donât know, man. Iâll have to talk to my counselor about it, I guess,â you shrug, pulling the hood of your sweatshirt over your head and tightening the drawstrings until the material covers your eyes, âwhy canât you audition to be a K-pop star or something? I could be your manager. Heck, even your makeup artist. Iâve done your makeup before, remember?â
Hyunjin laughs, loud, and the sound sinks deep into your heart and makes you feel warm all over. Stress? Gone.
For the next few minutes or so, the ride is comfortably quiet. At some point, he turns on the radio and Mariah Careyâs âAll I Want For Christmas Is Youâ floods your brain and reminds you to look forward to exchanging Christmas gifts later. God, you hope he likes it. You really went out on the sentimental gifts this year.
Hood shielding your vision, you jump when his large hand suddenly comes to grab the top of your head, squeezing hard and you imagine heâs trying to press some hopefulness into your brain. âHand on the penis stick, Hwang,â you bark, blindly reaching for his own head across the way and pulling his ear when you do so. Good Lord, you hope no one can see into the car because⌠what.
Hyunjin lets out a giggle this time, reaching to pull you into a headlock and even though heâs got your head shoved up against his sturdy chest and goes on to give you a noogie, youâre stuck being all high and loopy on the sound of his happiness. And hey, itâs nice to know youâre the cause of it.
âWeâre literally parked, idiot. If you had your hood down you wouldâve realized,â Hyunjin snickers, releasing you after watching you struggle for a few seconds. Jerking away from him, you swiftly pull back your hood. âOh,â you laugh, reading the flashy Yogo Factory sign above the building in front of you, âyou couldâve just told me instead of watching me bask in misery.â
Hyunjin suitably ignores your moaning and groaning by getting out of the car and standing in front of the car, illuminated by the headlights. Why? Why must he look so scrumptious in his black hoodie and grey sweatpants and four-year-old white Nike sneakers? He has no gosh darn right!
After fixing the mess he made of your hair, you at last join him outside the car, shooting him another glare and moving ahead of him to open the shopâs door without waiting for him. âFrom now on, we have to start texting each other what weâre wearing before we go out, âcus this looks a little ri-donk-ulous,â Hyunjin whispers in your ear as you make your way to the cup selection, trying to ignore all the stares youâ no, he is getting along the way.
âWhat do you mean?â You ask, plucking two medium sized cups up before turning to look at him. Then you look down at yourself. Oh. Looks like youâre both wearing the hoodie from junior spirit week. âNice.â Just Couple Thingsâ˘!
Back to Hyunjin being weirdâ why did he drag you all the way out here just to get a cup of chocolate frozen yogurt and maybe half a scoop of peanut butter chips?
Meanwhile, he watches in absolute disgust as you blow through your own dessert. Vanilla yogurt with probably every topping offered because you physically cannot make a decision, especially when they have chunks of cookie dough up there.
âSo,â Hyunjin starts, trying not to look you in the eye considering you look like a goblin shoveling globs of diabetes down your throat, âhave you talked to Jisung recently?â
You choke on a Fruity Pebble at his inquiry, prompting him to reach across the table and slap your back a few times until your esophagus is cleared. âUgh,â clearing your throat one last time, you take a few sips of water while shooting him a glare. Jisung? Really? âHow dense are you?â You hiss unintentionally.
Hyunjin raises his hands in defense. âJust a question.â
Yeah, just a question. Dumbass. âI mean,â you laugh awkwardly, ânot really. We have a streak on Snap and sometimes weâll talk occasionally but I donât text him every day or anything. How about you?â
He shrugs, concentrating instead on stirring his yogurt into a goopy mess. âEh. We still use our group chat a lot but thatâs it. Heâs too busy making music in Malaysia.â
You chuckle at this, picking out the boba from your own cup and leaving the rest now that it has started to look like something sold at the Chum Bucket. âThat sucks,â you offer, not the best at giving him consolidation, you opt for linking your feet around his own in some weird act of intimacy, âisnât he coming home for the holidays, though? Iâm sure you can all have a reunion soon.â
âYeah, he is,â Hyunjin hums, suddenly too focused on trying to escape your trap under the table. Annoyed Hyunjin is cute. âStoooop,â he whines, kicking at your shins before breaking into boisterous laughter at your relentlessness, âI will not hesitate to throw this cup at your face.â
âYeah, right,â you scoff, âIâd like to see you try.â
At this, Hyunjin drops his stupidly long arms beneath the table and easily captures your foot by the ankle, pulling hard enough for you to slip down your side of the booth. âHyunjin!â You shriek, panicking slightly at your sweaty handâs insecure grip against the leather. Youâre going to fall. Youâre going to fall flat on your ass underneath a table at a frozen yogurt place because the boy you like pulled your foot too hard. Fantastic. Ignoring you, he starts to wiggle your shoe off your foot no matter how hard you try to squirm out of his relentless grip. âStop trying to eat my toes in the middle of Yogo!â
Finally, he releases your foot, letting it fall limp against his thigh.
âGod,â you huff, breathless as you squirm back up your seat, cheeks burning ferociously, âyou are such an ass.â
Behind the playful smirk he fails to hide, something darker glints in Hyunjinâs eyes and it makes your heart skip a beat. Then, âWe should go.â The suggestion makes the heat of your blush scorch even hotter down your neck and you instinctively turn away, only to find the customers on the other side of the shop watching you with just as perturbed looks. Fantastic, part two.
âOkie,â you squeak out, blinking after him in complete and total bewilderment as to what just happened when he gets up to throw his trash away. Whatever. Following after him, you too toss your cup out before quickly finding your hand engulfed by his larger one as he leads you back outside, the sudden sharpness of the cold air bringing tears to your eyes. You desperately want to ask him what that was about, or why heâs acting so sneaky, but you stay silent, too afraid your voice will come out shaky and vulnerable. Instead, you let him tug you into his side and try to keep up with him no matter how badly your knees threaten to buckle with each glance you sneak up at him.
Itâs silent when you enter the car, watching warily as he reverses out of the parking spot and maneuvers through the lot. Your heart rate seemingly cannot slow itself down, adrenaline taking the place of oxygen the longer you stare at him, at the concentrated scrunch to his face, at the cute tip of his button nose and at the swell of his lips and you distantly wonder what would happen if you pulled him into a kiss at the next red light.
In the midst of your daydream Hyunjin clears his throat, bringing you back to reality and you realize with a startle that he has caught you. Jesus Christ! What has gotten into you? You mentally smack yourself upside the head, instantly turning away from his cocky little gaze and staring straight ahead in search of something else to focus on. â___,â he sing-songs, slow and sensual and entirely demolishing the walls you have built around yourself. It is at this red light you wish to simply open the door and run.
âYes?â You manage, wincing at how small your voice sounds and while looking out his window instead of into his eyes, you notice him grip the steering wheel hard enough to turn his knuckles white. The tension is insurmountable, weighing in heavily on your chest and you desperately wish to arrive home, even though that means having to survive the next twelve hours with him. Anything is better than the small confines of his car.
âWhat do you want to do when we get home?â He asks, cool as a cucumber. You pale. It is a dangerous question and you do not know if he realizes that. âUm,â you cough, scooting to sit up straight, âwhatever you want.â You whisper the last part, genuinely petrified because you have absolutely no idea if your brain is twisting everything to make it seem like Hyunjin is flirting or if things are totally normal. No idea.
âHm,â he offers, tilting his head in thought, âwe shall see.â
Yeah. We shall.
The rest of the ride is quiet, comfortably or uncomfortably you cannot say because you are too busy trying to calm the Spongebob burning office scene occurring inside your own head, hopelessly telling yourself that everything is fine, Hyunjinâs fine, youâre fine. Just pretend like nothing happened, you tell yourself when Hyunjin pulls into his driveway with practiced ease. âUgh,â he groans after retrieving your bag from the back seat, and you watch with a raised brow as he skips up to his porch, yelling, âI have to pee!â
âBegone with you, piss boy,â you tease, holding the screen door open for him as he struggles to unlock the storm door and pulling on one of his hoodieâs drawstrings just to annoy him. âStop,â he growls, low and playful but nevertheless sending a swarm of butterflies to your tummy. You ignore him. Finally unlocking the door, Hyunjin shoves the keys into his pocket and seizes your wrist, yanking your arm down with enough force to nearly topple you into him. âWhy are you being so annoying tonight?â He frowns at you, nose and brows scrunched in irritation and it is only because of his proximity do you finally soften up.
âSorry,â you pout back, bringing your other hand up to boop his nose, âI just missed ya.â
âEw,â he snorts, stepping past the threshold and kicking off his shoes. You follow suit, closing the door behind you and clicking the lock into place as Kkami comes sprinting over. âB-R-B,â Hyunjin announces, presumably bouncing away to the bathroom.
âOh, boy,â you huff, squatting to pick up the fluffy little dog and hugging him close to your chest, âyour dad is making my life very difficult.â Pressing a quick kiss to the top of his head, you put Kkami back down and grab your bag before heading upstairs, knowing Hyunjin is going to take his grand old time and probably take a shit while heâs at it. Plus, youâre impatient and dying to take your bra off.
Aside from what light his Gudetama nightlight offers, Hyunjinâs room is ultimately left dark. Hereâs the thing: he used to have a lamp on his dresser, but then he took it with him to college and only brings it home for summer because heâs lazy and sleeps the majority of the time heâs home, anyway. Instead, he put up his little remote-controlled Christmas tree in addition to the lava lamp he has beside his bed. Perfect. For Hyunjin, at least.
Switching both of these on, their subtle glow offers just enough to keep you from banging your toe against something. Itâs happened one too many times. Hyunjinâs room isnât messyâ he really isnât a messy person to begin with, but he will reorganize the furniture in his room fifty times a year and you never know where the crooked leg to his bedside table will be to ambush your pinky toe.
Setting your bag onto his bed, you excitedly fumble past all your layers and unclasp your bra, maneuvering out of it with a delighted exhale just as Hyunjin begins his ascent up the stairs, steps creaking loudly under his heavy trudging. âIâm an idiot,â he grumbles, leaning against the doorframe to catch his breath.
You donât bother to look at him, opting to quickly retort instead, âWe been knew.â
âUgh,â Hyunjin groans, exasperated, and you finally turn to him after successfully jamming aforementioned undergarment into your bag, âanyways. I donât know why I didnât just come up here, because I have to wash my face anyway and you do too and now weâre both going to have to share a sink.â
âAw,â you coo, tone dripping with sarcasm as you pat his arm, âpoor baby has to share the bathroom.â
âIâm actually going to strangle you,â he sighs, nevertheless following after you into the bathroom.
âKinky.â
Hyunjin glares, unamused as he opens a drawer for his pink bow hairband and your striped pink and blue one that he bought for you, but keeps here for sleepovers. Yeah. He throws it to your face. âSorry,â you offer, pulling the soft headband up to hold your hair back, âIâll try to stop. Iâm just so used to annoying you.â
âClearly,â he scoffs, flashing his stupidly cute teasing smile and in your head, you imagine raising a white flag in surrenderâ heâs got you, heâs won, itâs over. Time to call it quits and head home. Evidently shut up (for now), you offer him a roll of your eyes before turning on the sink to wet your hands before pumping out some of his scrumptious watermelon face wash. Maybe if you scrub hard enough, youâll manage to rinse away all the overwhelming thoughts of the night, too.
Barefaced Hyunjin is immaculate. Well, Hyunjin is immaculate twenty-four hours out of the day, but barefaced, freshly washed, hair messy, ready for bed Hyunjin is immaculate, and you are one of the few people lucky enough to see this eighth wonder of the world as often as you do.
Now, maybe it has something to do with the unexpected ambiance the light from his laptop, Christmas lights, and lava lamp have created together that makes him look so unfairly beautiful at this given moment. Or, youâre just insanely pussywhipped and looking for an excuse. You try not to think about it.
âWhy are you so squirmy tonight?â He asks, frustrated enough to interrupt Kermit singing âShawty I donât mindâ playing from his laptop. âIâm not,â you defend, a weak argument indeed, given that you have just finished adjusting your position beside him for the umpteenth time.
âI mean, four female Ghostbusters? The feminists are taking over! Iâm an adââ
â___, youâve touched my dick like four times. Donât try and tell me youâre not squirmy. Whatâs wrong?â Hyunjin interrupts a second Vine, and even goes on to talk over âI have the power of God and anime on my side!â like a lunatic. Oh Christ, you have? Surely you would have noticed. âSorry,â you mumble, embarrassed as you bury your face into the curve of his pectoral and instinctively move your leg settled between his away, âIâm just hot, to be honest.â Technically, it is not a lie. Hyunjinâs family definitely keeps their thermostat at a higher temperature than yours and you always manage to sweat your ass off every time you come over. This time, however, you are certain it has more to do with the assault your heart is facing rather than your sweat glands.
At the sound of his tap against the spacebar to pause the video, you wordlessly and reluctantly sit up from your comfortable spot beside him in order to rid yourself of your heavy sweatshirt. Now, here lies the problem. Sweatshirt: off. Nipples: out. Realistically, Hyunjin has seen your boobs a number of times over the past few years, and even if he hadnât, he probably wouldnât even bat an eye. But right now, your heart is on the line, youâre embarrassed and youâre trying to play it extremely safe.
You toss the hoodie to the floor and nestle right back where you were anyway, slinging your right arm over his torso and ignoring his sharp intake of breath when you snuggle closer. âBetter?â He asks, voice strained and it literally makes you nauseous. âYep.â
He resumes the video. You had started early in the night watching Pom Poko, which unsurprisingly ended with the two of you crying at the bittersweet ending, then moved to TikTok compilations on YouTube to cheer up before moving on from them and onto the classic Vine compilations. You paid good attention for the most part, chuckling along with him to âWhat up, Iâm Jared, Iâm nineteen and I never fucking learned how to read,â âBruh chill, I donât know why you in a big time rush,â and all the other absolute comedic masterpieces. But after the fourth or fifth video of the same six second clips with an occasional rare one, you began to grow bored and decided to do what you do best: admire Hyunjin.
Sure, âCome get yo juice!â followed by the loud smash of the oven made you smile, but you found the flashing lights casting shadows beneath Hyunjinâs eyes and lips much more fascinating. Of course, this is not the first time you have been held so close to him. But it is, however, all too easy to get lost in the sight of him and youâve noticed recently that you are in desperate need of a map. Whether itâs due to your time away from him or simply an appreciation for untouched beauty you do not know.
Even now, your gaze flickers to his laptop once you hear âGet to Del Taco,â but having already watched it five thousand times you tilt your head upward to catch Hyunjinâs silent giggle at âfree-sha-voca-do.â Itâs a vicious cycle, really, going back and forth between wanting to simply enjoy the night and realizing enjoying the night lies totally in Hyunjinâs presence. And so, you continue to fall into this trap each time until you pay no mind to the videos at all, basking in the brilliance of Hyunjinâs joyous smile and the warmth his happiness makes you feel. It is this thought that slowly tugs you to sleep, a fight to keep your heavy eyelids open lost until finally, you give in to the comfort and allow yourself to drift off to the sound of âStep the fuck up, Kyle.â
You think you are dreaming.
You think.
â___,â the softness of Hyunjinâs voice at the crown of your head eases you from the clutches of sleep and you stretch your locked limbs before curling further into his side. âWe didnât open presents.â Even though you canât see him, you can hear his pout, and you realize you must be awake to hear the disappointed words caught sluggishly between his lips so vividly. You hum, hesitant to open your eyes because you really want to go back to sleep. Just for a little while. And so, you ask, âWhat time is it?â
âJust past two,â he whispers.
You hum again, trying to formulate a sensible sentence in the parts of your brain still asleep, âWe can⌠wake up at four. And open gifts. Okay?â
âOkay, weirdo,â Hyunjin chuckles to himself, sliding lower down the mattress after shutting his laptop.
You think you are dreaming.
You think.
You canât remember ever falling asleep facing each other. But yet again, your brain is clouded beyond capability and now, you know for certain you are dreaming. Hyunjin never faces you.
Blinking slowly, it takes a few seconds for your eyes to adjust to the impenetrable darkness and you struggle to make out the features of Hyunjinâs face. You know you are dreaming, and so you tug him closer, throwing a leg over his thigh and an arm over his waist. Even in your sleep, you feel the sadness pricking at your heart, for even it knows this is only what dreams are made of. You like to make the best of it.
âYou know I love you, Jinnie, right?â Your voice comes out funny, drawn out and mumbled like your tongue is numb and you fight the urge to feel for yourself.
âOf course I do. I love you too.â His reply surprises you. You thought he was asleep and, either way, hearing such fond words from him puts your heart at ease. He must be misunderstood.
âNo. I mean like⌠I like you, love you. Like I want to kiss you⌠kiss you good morning and before bed love you. Send you hearts and take stupid couple pics and⌠go on dumb dates love you. You know?â Your words feel garbled and incomprehensible the longer you go on, trying to express how you feel when nothing is real proving to be increasingly difficult. God, if only you could do it when things are real.
You start to feel yourself slipping as he mutters a reply, mind in free fall and fuck, fuck, fuck, heâs whispering and you canât hear him but you are too tired and helpless to wake yourself up to hear it. No, too lost in the next dream to go back. You canât tell what is real and what isnât. Christ, were you awake? You canât tell. All you know is that you are warm, so, so warm and letting sleep take over you once more is the best answer to all your questions.
Hyunjin always says he hates waking people up. Because heâs normally the one needing to be awoken, whenever the roles are swapped he doesnât know what heâs supposed to do.
This time, however, he takes it upon himself to repeatedly smack your face with his pillow. Not a fun experience when itâs coming from someone who fails to recognize his own strength. âJesus, fuck! Okay!â You hiss, the cloud of sleep abruptly ripped away from you with the slap of his pillow against your skin. Arms raised defensively in front of you, you catch his next swing and tear the pillow out of his grasp to shield yourself all before you have even opened your eyes. When you do so, with the blatant intention just to find where he is and hurl the pillow at him, you are met with the harsh light from his ceiling fan and have to squint past the stinging white light to see his shit-eating grin.
âWas that necessary?â You groan, undeniably annoyed and wanting to glare at him more but needing to rub the ache out of your eyes. âYes,â is all he says, reaching for your bag and catapulting it to you. He is incredibly lucky you are quick enough to catch it before it thumps against your head. What has gotten into him? Did he eat an entire bag of Pixy Stix while you were asleep? You watch, still dazed from sleep and reeling from the whole pillow smacking attack, as he flings open his closet door and turns back around with two neatly wrapped boxes. You squint to make out the dancing Santa T-rex wrapping paper.
âOh,â you chirp, understanding, and you unzip your bag to retrieve the large box taking up the majority of space, âthanks for waking me up. Iâm surprised you remembered. Did you stay up?â
A rosy blush burns its way across his cheekbones. Odd. âI, umâ yeah. No, actually,â he stutters, really odd, given he was bouncing off the walls not even thirty seconds ago, âI set an alarm. You made me sleepy.â Hyunjin sits beside you once you have scooted over, leaning against the wall and crossing his long ass legs. He keeps his eyes trained on the boxes in his hands. âOh,â you hum, looking to your own gift and suddenly wishing for the mattress to swallow you up, âsorry. I havenât gotten as much sleep as you on break so far.â
âI donât think anyone ever has,â he jokes and you finally look to him, sharing a cheeky smile before he gets all shy again, tongue darting out to wet his lips, âum, Merry Christmas, ___.â
Itâs a simple phrase, but it makes your heart swell. âMerry Christmas to you too, Hyunjin.â Leaning over, you wrap your arms around his shoulders in an awkward side hug, but still end up feeling all drunk and loopy on love when he eagerly returns the gesture, arms curling around you.
âOkay,â you huff, sitting back, âme first.â You dramatically hold your gift out to him, jittery and nervous all over. Buying for Hyunjin is always hard. Heâs just so easy to please, but when you want to do more than just please him itâs a constant battle trying to decide how far out you are going to go for him each year.
You watch impatiently as he tears the wrapping paper open first, and then finally lifts the flaps of the box up. âAw,â he whimpers, pulling out the quokka plushie and attached certificate, âyou adopted a quokka for me?â
You grin when he hugs the soft stuffed animal to his chest, the weight on your shoulders partly lifted from his positive reaction. He reaches back into the box, brow scrunched in thought as he regards the framed picture. âThe First DayâŚ?â Hyunjin asks, perplexed as he reads the title above the constellation poster. You scoot closer, leaning over to look it over once more. âThis was the constellation of stars on our first day of freshman year. The day we first met.â
âOh,â Hyunjin sniffs, âthatâs really awesome, ___. Thank you. This is coming with me to school.â At this, he hugs you again, probably to hide the tears you know are threatening to spill because Hyunjin is Baby and cries every year. âAnything for my favorite fake Aussie,â you smile, leaning your head on his shoulder as he reads through the quokka adoption letter.
âOkay! Your turn!â He exclaims, setting his gifts back into the box and passing you the smaller one of his. He catches your curious glance to the second one he keeps by his side. âWe have to open this one together.â
âChrist, okay. Looks like Iâm gonna be crying tonight, too,â you sigh sadly. âOoh,â jumping ahead of yourself, you wiggle your eyebrows at the white box before you, âHyunjin if you bought me a Fitbit⌠I swear to God. How many times have I said I am not working out with you?â However, once you finish tearing open the wrapping paper you find it is not, in fact, a Fitbit.
âItâs not a Fitbit, idiot,â Hyunjin scoffs a second too late, waiting for you to slip the lid off the box. âTheyâre bond touch bracelets.â
âExplain,â you murmur, enamored but confused at the two little house arrest looking bracelets.
âSo basically, we each wear one,â Hyunjin starts, taking one of the bracelets out and a burst of color blooms across its small screen at the motion, âand if you touch it, mine vibrates and I âfeelâ your touch.â As he explains, he buckles it around your wrist, twisting it so it lies correctly. You silently take the second one and help it on him, brain too caught up to actually say anything.
âTry it,â Hyunjin whispers, suppressing his excitement.
You gingerly bring a finger to the little screen, tapping it once, twice. Nothing happens. Frowning, you try again, tapping and holding, then a second time, and finallyâ a strip of pink light appears and the bracelet gently vibrates as you tap and hold a random pattern. In response, the bracelet on Hyunjinâs wrist lights up blue, buzzing in the same pattern.
âOh, Hyunjin,â you sniffle, fighting back your own tears because you refuse to let yourself ugly cry in front of him, âthis is amazing. Now I can annoy you year-round. Thank you so, so much. I love you so much.â He hums, pulling you close when you turn to give him a proper hug. To your utmost surprise, however, instead of letting go he curls one fist into your side and helps swing your legs over to straddle his lap. âOh.â
â___,â Hyunjin sighs thoughtfully, fingers playing with the sleeves of your tee, âI love you, too.â
You nearly spit up your coffee. If you were drinking coffee. Instead, youâre left with a dry mouth and a slack jaw at his words. Huh?
Glancing to the constellation picture peeking out of his box, and then to the matching bracelets you both wear, you find your mind reeling trying to make sense of it all. Yeah, you say the forbidden L-word to each another all the time, but most certainly not with you on his on lap and his lips mere centimeters away. The answer is so obviously clear as day you have trouble believing it.
âFuck,â you laugh all of a sudden, as soon as the realization hits you, âI wasnât dreaming, was I?â
Hyunjin lets out a joyous giggle, hands linking behind your back. Unable to hide his smile any longer, he clarifies, âYou were not, madam. We literally just finished talking about when we were going to open gifts and then I got ready to sleep. Two seconds later you dumped your heart out to me, but when I answered, you were asleep.â
âBruh,â you wince, hiding your face with your hands, âI am so sorry you had to deal with that.â
âNo, donât be,â Hyunjin comforts, reaching to tug your hands away. Your gut does somersaults when he intertwines his fingers with yours. âI was actually, uh, planning on doing some sort of confession to you anyway, but then you went right ahead and did it for me. So thanks for that.â
âWow,â you chuckle, trying to wrap your mind around it all, âdoes that mean you, ahem, perhaps like me too?â
âNo, I just got us really couple-y long distance relationship bracelets, pulled you onto my lap, and kissed you because I just want to be friends.â
âYou didnât kiss mââ
The sly little fucker interrupts your retort by quickly dipping down to press a fat smooch to your lips, missing miserably and you donât know if he did it on purpose but you quickly fix the problem, releasing his hands to cradle his jaw and tilt his head the right angle. Finally, finally you kiss him, breathing in the smell of him like some sort of aromatherapy and whimpering into his mouth when his tongue swipes against your own. It is like nothing you have ever experienced, the taste and feel of him making you tremble and igniting a burst of electricity through your veins. You could kiss him forever, you think, sucking on his plump bottom lip greedily until he finally pulls back, desperate for air or trying to reel himself in you canât say.
âYou have to open your other gift,â Hyunjin reminds, chest heaving, and your gaze follows his long fingers as they comb his hair away from his forehead. Automatically, as if kissing Hyunjin once grants you some kind of free pass to do the same, you brush a few stray strands away from his face before leaning back to admire him. âStoooop. You canât do that and not expect me to kiss you again. Open. Your. Gift.â Hyunjin whines, squishing your cheeks and turning your head away.
âOkay, donât blame this on me,â you huff, reaching for the second box before jabbing a finger into his chest, âyou, sir, need to stop being so beautiful for like, two seconds.â
He scoffs, helping you rip off the wrapping paper, âYouâre the beautiful one here.â
âEw,â you wrinkle your nose, most certainly not used to Hyunjin dishing out such compliments, âthis is too Hallmark Christmas movie for me. Let me open my gift in peace, ugly.â This box, unlike the braceletsâ, is simple cardboard and when you lift open the lid, a brown leather book looks back at you. âYou remember Up?â He asks.
On the leather, it reads Our Adventure Book in mismatched colors. âYeah,â you whisper, flipping open the cover to find two baby pictures glued on the paper, one of Hyunjin, and one of you. At the top, itâs labeled âBefore Shit Went Down.â You laugh.
On the next page, there are random photographs from middle school, and then finally each otherâs eighth grade graduation portraits. Then, written at the top is âHere It Begins,â followed by a selfie he randomly took with you a few weeks into school freshman year, and then some from homecoming. Silently flipping through the rest of the book, your tears flow freely now, touched beyond comparison at all the photographs and all the memories accompanying them. Some are from large events like prom, others from random moments you donât even remember, but each and every one comes together to form a special mold fitting perfectly into that Hyunjin-shaped hole in your heart.
The last picture is from the christening last month. Of course, it isnât one of the nicer photos his mom took of the two of you, but a SnapChat selfie with the flaming sunglasses filter. Heâs mid-laugh and youâre pressing a kiss to his cheek. Funny thing is, you donât even remember taking it.
The page next to it is blank, aside from whatâs written at the top of the page. âTogetha Foreva,â you read aloud, voice choked up and God, you cannot fathom how gross you look right now. âWhat the fuck, man!â You sob, punching Hyunjinâs shoulder before wiping your nose and cheeks with the back of your hands. âI didnât sign up for this cock and ball torture.â
Hyunjin laughs loudly at this, pulling you into a hug and giving you a few seconds to recover. âHyunjin, this is like⌠seriously the best thing anyone has ever done for me, holy shit. God, you Pinterest son of a bitch, this is such a good idea,â you groan, flipping back through the pages and getting teary-eyed all over again, âI canât express how much this means to me, Jinnie. Thank you, really.â
Flashing that toothy grin of his, Hyunjin tugs you to lie back down with him and tilts your head up to press a much more accurate kiss to your lips. âI meant what I said before, ___,â he murmurs, âI donât know what to do without you, and I know we only get to see each other once a month but I canât keep living as just friends. Youâre so much more than that. And I hope all the pictures we add from now on will show this new chapter of our lives. If not, well, then I guess Iâll just burn the book.â
âAre you asking me to be Kkamiâs official poop-picker-upper?â
âYes. Waitâ what? No!â
You break into a fit of laughter, only to be interrupted with him pinching your side and causing you to let out a yelp. âHey!â You bark, jumping closer to him and away from his hand until, finally, you give in to your self-indulgence and go right on ahead in swinging a leg over his hips and pinning him beneath you.
âYou ruined my serious love speech, ___,â Hyunjin pouts, face scrunched up at you.
âIâm sorry, baby, go on.â
You pause, blinking slowly at him. He blinks back, the silence in the air weighing in heavily as both of your two brain cells bounce around trying to figure out what did you just call him?
âNever mind,â Hyunjin says, voice a low rumble of thunder as he reaches for your hips and easily flips positions, âI think youâre on the same boat.â
You laugh, tilting your head back and eyeing him indignantly. Fuck, he looks unfairly delectable hovering above you.
âOkay, how many more times do I have to tell you I love you for you to formally ask me to be your girlfriend, stupid?â You scowl, bringing your hands to cradle his neck, thumbs brushing delicately against his jaw.
âCall me baby again and weâll see about making that happen.â
You raise a brow, tugging his face closer by the chain of his necklace. âYouâre lucky itâs Christmas, baby.â

Fallen
Author: @hutchhitchedâ
Prompt: How about Katniss taking Peeta to the forest during the fall for the first time to see all of the fall colors. [submitted by anonymous]
Rating: T for suggestive language
Authorâs note: Some of you may notice this is the second story for this prompt. During the selection process, @mega-auloverâ and I both fell in love with this prompt, and she very generously allowed me to write another version. Thank you for sharing with me! I was able to travel home a couple of weeks ago for the first time in the fall in a number of years. Although the trees had just started to turn, it was a lovely opportunity to remember what itâs like to live in the land of four seasons. This is my love letter to that.
__________
âAre you sure you want me to go with you?â Peeta asked for what must have been the hundredth time. I was getting really tired of reassuring him, but it was also adorable how insecure he was about the trip. âI mean, we only just started dating. Meeting your family so soon is a little bit⌠I donât know. Quick?â
I shook my head and grinned at him. His blue eyes held a hint of panic. It only served to make him more endearing. Stepping close to him, I threaded my fingers through his hair and pulled his face down to mine. Instead of answering, I pressed my lips to his, and our kiss devolved into a tangle of tongues and lips and limbs. Breathy moans and soft whimpers and catching breath and want.
I couldnât remember how long itâd been since my body yearned for someone else, how many months had passed since I woke up with a smile on my face and the anticipation of greeting someone with a kiss over an early morning coffee. It felt like years, but that loneliness faded when I met Peeta Mellark. Sure, it had only been a few months since our first date, but weâd both fallen hard. Not surprisingly, he was more open about his feelings. I hemmed and hawed and tried to pretend my whole world hadnât rotated right off its axis for another week before I admitted to myself how much I wanted to crawl inside him and live there. Not in a creepy way, of course.
I broke our kiss and relished in the touch of his forehead against mine. âYou donât have to come,â I whispered, hoping against hope that heâd see through my projected confidence. I wanted him there so badly. I needed him to see where I came from and understand my hang-ups and quirks.
Peeta tilted my head up so he could catch my gaze with his. He searched my eyes for several seconds before rubbing his thumb across my cheekbone. âNo,â he answered softly. âNo, I want to go with you.â
My head nestled in the crook of his neck, and I released a relieved sigh. âYou sure?â
âYou promised me leaves,â he murmured against my temple as his arms tightened around me. âIâm sorry.â
âYou donât have toââ
âYes, I do,â he insisted. âI told you Iâd come, and then I tried to bail on you at the last minute. What kind of boyfriend would I be if I left you hanging?â
âThe worst kind.â
âOh, that bad, huh?â he chuckled, and I grinned at him.
âThe kind that needs to be punished,â I whispered into his ear.
âOh, yeah. That kind. Are you going to spank me?â
âAbsolutely, and you better return the favor.â
God help me. He definitely did.
__________
âYou know,â I hissed as I settled into the driverâs seat, âit was fairly stupid of us to give each other sore asses the night before a road trip.â
Peeta shifted gingerly, and I chuckled at the pink hue flushing his cheeks. Heâd been a champ as Iâd spanked his perfectly rounded cheeks until they were rosy and warm. His willingness to shift over control in bed to me wasnât something I was used to in a partner, but he made it easy to enjoy when he squirmed and moaned and begged. Truth be told, I loved it, especially because he was equally eager to turn the tables and take charge.
âMaybe stupid,â he grunted as he wiggled until he found a comfortable position. âMaybe just really good sex.â
âYeah,â I murmured as he wrapped his hand around my thigh. Shifting into reverse, I leaned over to kiss him before easing off the brake and backing out of my driveway. âItâll have to hold us for a while. Privacy isnât exactly how it works when I head home.â
His fingers tightened on my leg, and I grinned as his thumb stroked higher and higher. âIâm sure weâll manage,â he said softly as he grazed his thumb against the seam in my jeans. âThank you for asking me to come with you.â
âWell, I canât believe you havenât ever seen fall leaves in person. I meanâŚâ
He watched as I steered the car onto the entrance ramp and headed north on the interstate. âWhen was that supposed to happen, sweetheart?â he asked. âIâve lived in the south my entire life.â
âBut donât you take vacations?â
âWell, sure, but not in the fall. School and then work and justâ I donât know. We went to Orlando and the beach and stuff like that. Normal things.â
âNormal,â I scoffed. âAh, to live in a world where going to Disneyworld is normal. That takes money, and we never really had a lot of that.â
âNo, you had something better,â he answered, bitterness just creeping into his voice. âI would have traded every Mickey sighting for a relationship with my brothers like you have with Prim. And my parents are justââ
Peeta didnât finish, Instead, he tilted his head against the car window and closed his eyes. I didnât know what to say to make him feel better. I couldnât understand what it was like to grow up with things instead of relationships, so I didnât try to pretend I did. All I could do was squeeze his hand as I steered into the left lane and pressed on the accelerator. The miles passed quickly as silence filled the car.
__________
âSo, what is it you love about going home during the fall?â Peeta asked as I steered the car deftly around a sharp corner.
Weâd long since left the interstate and were weaving along the state highway that would lead to the county paved road that turned into a country gravel road that led to the dirt road to my familyâs homestead. Iâd tried to explain to my boyfriend how remote the house I grew up in was, but he didnât really seem to get it. He would soon enough.
âItâs the leaves,â I inhaled in an elongated breath and then released it in a blissful sigh. âI love them.â
Peeta hummed and glanced sideways at me. When he caught my eye, he rested his head against the back of the seat and treated me to a megawatt smile. âYou love leaves?â he teased.
A goofy smile spread across my face, and I signaled to turn. âI really do. Thereâs no way to explain it, but Iâm going to knock your socks off tomorrow morning.â
Peeta hummed and squeezed my thigh. âAnd here I thought we wouldnât get any sexy times while weâre visiting your family.â
Laughing, I signaled and turned the car to the left into the driveway of my childhood home and shifted into park. âFinally. Home, sweet home.â
Weâd been traveling all dayâfifteen solid hours of driving with only a few gas and restroom breaksâand all I wanted to do was take a shower and climb into bed. When I looked at him, nervous and shy, I realized there was one more thing I needed to do before greeting my family.
Thankfully, he came willingly when I fisted his shirt and tugged him to me. Our lips rammed together, frantic and feral, before our tongues tangled and turned filthy. Heat flooded through me, molten and scorching, as involuntary whimpers and grunts tore from us both. The dark enveloped us, filling up the car and protecting us from curious glances from nosy family members. As his mouth met mine again, I calculated just how far we could go before I had to pull away and stop what was so good between us. I wasnât always sure of social customs, but I knew riding Peeta like the purebred stallion heâd proven to be in the driveway wasnât okay.
His hand cupped my breast and squeezed as he tilted his head to lick further into my mouth. The sticky wetness between my legs grew as my fingers tangled in his hair and tugged. The yelp he released caused my eyes to roll back in my head. I did it a second time, and his mouth fell open, yielding to my rough grip.
âKatniss,â he groaned, my name falling from his swollen lips.
I wanted him, then, more than Iâd ever dreamed I could desire anyone, but we had to stop. It wasnât a question of whether we wanted to or should, it was imperative. If we didnât, Iâd fall in love with him so much more than I already was, and I couldnât risk that. Not yet. Not when it was all so new, and I feared another broken heart.
âTime to go in,â I announced in a hoarse whisper.
He closed his eyes, scrunching them in what was probably frustration, and gasped, âI need a minute.â
I couldnât resist one last bit of torture and reached over to squeeze him firmly. He choked back a gasp as my palm pressed an intentional caress meant to remind him what his body craved. Hissing, he squirmed away, his back against the door, and his hands up in surrender.
âDonât,â he begged, and I took pity on him.
âButchering a deer. The feel of dough between your fingers when the yeast fails. Sourness in your stomach the morning after a drinking binge. Socks in the bottom of the laundry basket that have been balled up for weeks.â
He grimaced and shot me a half-smile. âThat did it. Not hard at all anymore.â
We grabbed our bags and headed inside where Peeta charmed my family and chastely kissed me goodnight before settling into the guest room. I slipped into bed in my childhood room with a warm glow surrounding my heart. Despite my best intentions, Iâd fallen for Peeta Mellark.
__________
âAre you ready?â I asked, a timid smile stretching my lips.
Peeta slipped his arm around my waist and hugged me to him. I knew he would love the autumn leaves, which I kept trying to convince myself was the real reason Iâd asked him to come home with me, but really, I just wanted him near me.
âTake me to the woods. Take me forth into the wilds of the world. Just donât leave me there alone.â
âOkay, overdramatic one,â I teased with an eye roll. âGrab that basket, and letâs do it.â
We walked out the door, and he released a soft gasp of approval. The ash tree in the front yard was in rare form with the outside leaves a purplish-red and fading to orange and then yellow closest to the trunk. Those had always been my favorite, and we took a moment to appreciate it before I tugged his hand and led him to the gate that allowed us access to the forest.
âThis is beautiful,â he observed in hushed whispers, like the world around him was a magical land he was afraid to disturb with loud noises. âThis is justâ I donât have words.â
âYou donât need words,â I murmured, disturbingly enamored with the sparkle in his eyes and the sheer wonderment on his face. âYou donât need words because you have your art.â
He turned to me then, his face alight with wonder. He was a miracle in that momentâadorable and bemused and so excited he wriggled like a puppy. It was no wonder my heart was already his, why Iâd fallen for him after only a few months. He was as close to perfect as anyone Iâd ever met, and I wasnât nearly good enough for him. But I wanted to be. I wanted to be everything heâd ever needed and desired, if only heâd allow it.
âYouâre beautiful,â he complimented me sweetly, and I ducked my head to blush.
âCome on,â I said, grabbing his hand and tugging him along behind me. âThereâs a clearing I have in mind. I used to spend a lot of time there with Prim when I was growing up. The leaves there are gorgeous.â
I moved through the underbrush fairly quietly, but Peeta stumbled a few times, kicking up leaves and sticks and making so much noise the birds scolded us as we passed. He was a trooper, though, his presence steady and sure beside me as we passed through the trees that eventually opened up into a clearing with a brook that flowed from a light blue, spring-fed pool. The massive oak tree that had stood for decades had blown over when I was in high school, and it rested there, a fallen log perfect for spreading the blanket and relaxing onto its sturdy seat. It winked an invitation, and we accepted.
Clearly delighted, Peetaâs eyes sparkled when I reached into the basket weâd brought and produced a thermos of cider. Steam rose into the crisp air, and we sipped quietly until he asked me, âSo, what kinds of trees are these?â
I took a sip and waved around me. âThe yellow are shag-bark hickory and elm. I like the hickory better. The yellowâs a little brighter. The orange are mostly sugar maples. Completely gorgeous. The red trees are both maple and oak. The brown-ish red ones are pin oaks. My favorite, though, is the purple ash. Thereâs one in the yard. Itâs the one thatâs purple on the outside and yellow on the inside so it looks like the whole tree is hombre.â
âI had no idea,â he murmured. âNo idea trees could look like this. I mean, Iâve seen pictures and movies, but that pales in comparison to an actual in-person tour. I wish I had my oils. Iâd paint the hell out of this.â
âWill pictures work? That seems a lot more practical than hauling your stuff across state lines and into the woods,â I teased. I understood his desire, but both of us were more pragmatic than that.
âTheyâll have to, wonât they?â
He softened his retort with a shoulder nudge and smile, and my heart flipped at the affection shining in his eyes.
âI canât wait to see what you paint once we get back home. Theyâre going to beâŚâ I searched for a word, but the only one that seemed to do his artwork justice was almost over the top if it wasnât also true. ââŚtranscendent. You transport me with your paintings.â
He kissed me then, cradled my cheeks in his palms and turned up my face to seek my lips with his. I could almost picture us in my mindâPeeta strong and protective with ashy blonde waves topping a stocky figure draped in denim and dark green flannel wrapped around a smaller figure in aqua and orange fleece and rugged boots. He twined my braid around his palm and nudged my mouth open to sweep inside.
I swallowed his groan and matched it with my own. The mid-morning light slanted through the trees and danced on the underbrush and our shoulders. He smelled like fresh air and cinnamon, and I wanted to subsist on only that forever.
Peeta finally broke the kiss, although he only pulled back enough to lean his forehead against mine. His thumb stroked my cheekbone, and he closed his eyes briefly before locking his gaze to mine. A cloud passed over the sun, and I shivered. It felt momentous, like something was about to happen. The grove had become a sacred space in that very moment.
âI love you,â he breathed against my cheek, and the sun burst from behind the cloud in approval. Sunlight washed over us, and I swallowed hard against the sudden lump in my throat. Stunned and speechless, my eyes widened and stomach rolled.
I wanted to respond, to say somethingâanythingâthat might make sense in what had become surreal and dreamlike. There was no way heâd actually announced what I thought I heard. He didnât love me. I was convinced of that. We were dating, happy as a couple, but I was head over heels for him, and he couldnât possibly feel the same. There was no way I was allowed to have that, that I could be so lucky and fortunate and blessed. I shivered and stepped back.
âW-what?â
My ears werenât working properly. That was the only reasonable explanation. He considered me for a moment, his blue eyes darkened with apprehension, and his shoulders hunched slightly to protect himself. He held up his hands to indicate his willingness to let me question him and said it again.
âI love you, Katniss Everdeen.â
His words were soft but true, and I gaped at him. Red, orange, and yellow leaves fluttered above us in the wind, as if clapping in agreement, and I tasted his words on my own lips. They were sweet and tart at the same time.
âYou love me?â I squeaked, completely unable to catch my breath. He gave me a soft smile and brushed stray hairs off my forehead where he dropped another kiss.
âI do,â he insisted, barely audible over the rustling leaves. âI know itâs quick, and you donât have to say it back, but you should know. I love you, and I hope youâll feel the same way about me in the future.â
I could hardly stand the hopefulness he displayed, could hardly bear to think about how selfless it was for him to offer me his heart when he had no idea mine had been his since the first time heâd made me laugh. Even before our first date, I knew he was something special and someone I wanted in my life forever, even if I didnât want to admit it to myself.
âBut I do!â I sputtered, blurting out my confession with so little finesse Iâm surprised he didnât leave me standing in the clearing by myself.
âYou do?â His eyebrow seemed to question my declaration, but I threw myself at him in a very un-Katniss-like way.
âI really do,â I admitted, tears closing my throat. âI love you, too.â
The wind picked up then, swirling the branches and leaves into another chorus of applause. The sun sparkled and winked, and the clouds skipped across the sky like old friends. Peeta looked around us as a smile broke across his face. He tipped his head back and yelled into the morning.
âShe loves me!â he shouted, and I burst into laughter. Relief and exuberance drifted on the breeze, and I leapt at him, wrapping my legs around his waist and clinging to his broad shoulders.
We kissed and cuddled for warmth on the blanket for hours as the sun reached its zenith and dropped in the west. Declarations of our undying affection gave way to mundane topics followed by plans for the future. It was too soon for an engagement, but I wasnât looking for that anyway. I only wanted to explore this feeling, being in love with someone who adored me every bit as much as I did him.
Eventually, we made our way back to my childhood home, away from the log that had fallen for us as surely as we fell for each other. As we stepped from the forest, the gorgeous autumn leaves were surely cheering.

Hi! I was wondering if you could write some fluffy headcannons of like todoroki, bakugo, and midoriya reacting to like a horror movie?
The Boys Reactions to Horror Movies: Todoroki, Bakugou and Midoriya
Reader: Gender-NeutralÂ
Requests: Open!
Warnings: None
Also, for some reason whenever I tag work that isnât requested, like personal HCâs and stuff, theyâre not showing up in the tags I list them in??? Like, theyâre not showing up at all in general...
Todoroki
- Horror movies donât really scare him, I mean, most of his childhood was a nightmare. However, he heard you talking about a horror movie marathon with one of your sidekicks. He was picking you up to take you to lunch when he heard your sidekick gushing about the different scary movies that were supposed to be on that night. During lunch, Shouto surprisingly brought up the marathon he had heard the two of you discussing and suggested the two of you watch it that evening after work.
- It shouldnât be too bad with Shouto with you right? Surprisingly itâs a half and half ordeal. Some stuff that makes you jump out of your skin, doesnât affect your boyfriend. However, simple little scares like a teen randomly appearing out of nowhere and freaking out the group will make him jump slightly or tense up. You couldnât really blame him; Since you knew the killer was possibly around when the music shifted to something more eerie, he probably had time to prepare himself for a scare. But when a teen appears out of nowhere, the sound of their voice is sure to surprise anyone.
- He doesnât really get nightmares or scared from horror movies. If you easily get freaked out or even just a bit nervous after watching it, heâll hold you close so you feel a bit better. You usually start and end the movie lying on each other or snuggled up to one another. Either the two of you are spooning on the couch or Todorokiâs lying on his back with you on his chest.Â
- He doesnât really suggest any horror movies to watch unless it was something heavily recommended. Usually he hears his sidekicks talking about certain scary movies coming to theaters or an old one thatâs classic around Halloween time. Heâll suggest a date to go and see it since he heard itâs pretty popular, or heâll rent/buy an old horror movie he heard is good.Â
- Usually watched scary movies during Halloween. Reminds the two of you of your time in class 1-A, when Halloween would roll around and everyone would gather in the commons area to binge scary movies. Surprisingly, class 1-A will sometimes hold scary movie nights around Halloween. Itâs mostly during or after a Halloween party though hosted by someones agency. Itâs a good way to wind down, and chill. Itâs also pretty entertaining to watch some of the old class get scared.
- Surprisingly he rarely falls asleep during movies. If he does fall asleep during a movie be it boring or not, heâll put it back on when he wakes up to see what the ending was. He usually carries you to bed since youâve fallen asleep at around movie two. If heâs not tired heâll fix a cup of tea to help relax himself before joining you in bed.Â
Bakugou
- He doesnât mind the horror genre honestly, although he prefers action movies. Thereâs a marathon of different horror movies playing on television one night, and you and Bakugou had nothing better to do. However, youâre more terrified of his reaction to the movies rather than the movies themselves. He just stares the screen, with an almost bored expression.Â
- Girl getting chased through a cornfield with a crazed killer chasing after her? Blank. Teens getting tortured and tormented? Blank. Maybe that jump scare got him? Nope. Heâs just not easily scared. He knows itâs costumes and make-up, along with some pretty bad special effects. After the second movie begins to end heâs usually falling asleep, his head ending up in your lap.Â
- However, he tries to stay awake. With how busy the two of you are itâs rare for you to spend evenings like this together. When he knows his body is about to cave and fall asleep, heâll grasp your hand so you can squeeze it whenever you get scared. When he can manage to stay awake, youâre usually curled up against his side, and hiding your face against his shoulder when you get scared.
- âThat scene wasnât even scary dammit!â Heâd growl when you nearly fell off the couch. Heâll get up to go refill the popcorn bowl just to have something to do; Plus, itâs amusing to hear you squeak and scream in surprise from the kitchen. âIf you were THAT scared Katsuki, we could have changed the channel.â Youâd state, falsely accusing your boyfriend of being scared.
- He just looks at you as if youâd grown two heads, before sucking his teeth. âFine, you think Iâm scared? We can watch something scarier.â Heâd challenge. Youâd protest, but itâs too late. Heâs already grabbing the scariest movie the two of you own and putting it in the DVD player.
- The rest of the night youâre chilling in Bakugouâs lap, too scared to look at the television. Meanwhile, Bakugou has a hand resting on your back and arm draped over your legs. You can feel his hands tense slightly when he gets a bit surprised by something, but he never outright freaks out. No, no, he only does that internally.Â
Midoriya
- He honestly doesnât really care for horror movies, since he easily gets nightmares after watching them. However, your favorite horror movie was playing one night and wanted Midoriya to watch it with you. You knew about his fear of the genre, but you thought that if the two of you watched it together it wouldnât be so bad.Â
- In the beginning the two of you are sitting beside each other the couch, a large blanket wrapped around both your shoulders and a bowl of popcorn in between you. Unsurprisingly though, about ten minutes into the movie and Midoriya surprisingly has placed you in his lap and is using your shoulder as a blockade whenever certain scary parts come up. Scary music starts playing? Hide. Girl randomly walks around the empty haunted house asking if anyone is home. Hide. Jump scare? Heâs yelping and burying his face against your back.
- You ask if he wants you to cut off the movie or switch it to something different. You admit you wonât be upset for missing the movie, because you want Midoriya to be comfortable and to enjoy himself. Once again he declines though you continue to stare at him, search his features for any signs of hesitance. He reassures you that itâs really okay, however half way into the movie and he nearly sending you flying off his lap.Â
-Â âHow about we watch an action or comedy instead?â You insist, reaching over to grab the remote. He allows you to turn the channel, and you feel his body relax under you. His grip on you loosens and the silence between the two of you becomes comfortable. The two of you shift so youâre both lying on the couch, Midoriya on his back with your body resting on top of his.
- At the end of the night before he leaves he apologizes for getting scared, feeling that he had ruined your indoor movie date. You insist that itâs fine and his comfort is more important to you than any movie. He promises to try and watch it again with you some other time, which you donât argue against.Â
- Heâs jumpy on the way home and texts you when he gets into his apartment to let you know heâs made it safe. Heâs kinda freaked out as he goes throughout his apartment, peaking in rooms before entering as if somebody was waiting to attack him. He texts you at around midnight stating he was having a hard time sleeping, but you knew it was because he was having nightmares. He just wants to listen to your voice to help him fall asleep.

Why is it a requirement for bachelorette parties to end up in places like this?
You hated clubs. You hated the noise, the crowds, the expense. You hated that the experience turned every one of your girlfriends into giggling, binge-drinking morons. Somewhere someone decided that this is what people were supposed to do for a bachelorette party, and you wished that you could punch whoever that was in the face.Â
You sat huddled in the corner of your booth, your vodka tonic clutched in one hand as you watched your friends whoop it up. âWeâre gonna go dance, câmon!â one of them shouted to you as the four of them made their way down to the dance floor. âNo thanks,â you replied, feigning cheerfulness. âIâll stay here and watch our stuff.â She shrugged and stumbled off.
You watched the sweaty, writhing bodies dancing under the flashing lights and loud pumping base for a while, sipping your drink, when a lightly accented voice pulled you away from the scene before you. âAre you all set on dri-- oh, itâs just you.â You turned your head and saw an otherworldly creature leaning up against the side of the nook in which you sat. They were mostly shirtless, dressed only in skin-tight leather pants and a small vest, and their lean, sculpted torso somehow appeared to shimmer, as if it was dusted with a luminous powder. Their platinum blond hair was pulled back into a plaited bun with a dramatic sweep of spiky bangs, and their elf-like features were accented by long silver false eyelashes. Your mouth quickly dropped open in surprise before you snapped it close again, quickly averting your gaze.
âDonât worry,â they cooed, clearly noticing your surprise. âI donât bite.â
You chuckled awkwardly and buried your face in your drink, draining the last few drops.
âWhy are you all alone? Have your friends left you?â
âNo,â you said, âIâm just watching their stuff. Iâm not really into dancing and the whole club scene. No offence.â
âNone taken,â they said. âI actually find the whole thing quite boring myself, but it pays the bills, so to speak.â
You smiled. âIâll bet you get a lot of tips,â you said before cringing at yourself. Why did you say that out loud?
The elf smiled and tilted their head contemplatively. âNow why would you say that?â Their voice was playful; teasing.
âWell,â you said with a shrug. âBeautiful people always get the best tips.â
They huffed out a soft chuckle at that. âWell look at you getting right to the point. Isnât that refreshing. Call me Luba. Iâm about to go on my break. Care to join me?â
âWhat about my friends' things?â you asked.
âFuck their things,â Luba replied. âYou have better shit to do.â
You laughed. âOk, sure. Letâs go.â
Luba took your hand as you stood, and they led you through the club and out the back door. They leaned casually against the side of the building and sparked up a cigarette. âWould you like one doll?â They tilted the pack in your direction.
âNo thanks, I donât smoke,â you said.
âLucky you,â they replied, and fixed you with a particularly intense stare. You werenât sure what to do next, and you awkwardly felt the need to fill the silence.
âSo...have you worked here long?â you asked.
âOh honey,â Luba said, sighing. âDonât disappoint me by being boring. You seemed so different than the other bimbos and himbos that come here.â
You felt a stab of anger before Luba broke into a grin and laughed, easing your bruised ego.
âIâm just playing with you honey. Now come here.â They held out their arm. You took their hand and stepped closer. Luba closed the remaining distance between you and stood over you, one of their legs pressed against your thigh. âYou might hate the scene,â they purred. âBut you do enjoy a little excitement, donât you.â They spoke it as if it was a statement and not a question. âI can tell youâre a naughty girl.â
Your heart started to beat faster. âI do get into trouble from time to time,â you said, matching their tone.
âI wonder just what sort of trouble you could get into in an alley behind a nightclub,â they said, and pressed in closer to you. You didnât respond, only breathed. You looked up at them with dark eyes, answering them with your look. They bent their head until their lips barely brushed yours. âAre you wondering now,â they said, âwhat you are willing to get up to out here?â
You wrapped your arms around their shoulders and pressed your lips to theirs, relishing in the soft smoothness of them, and you teased their lips with your tongue. Suddenly Luba opened their mouth and slipped their tongue into yours, kissing you back with intensity. They cupped the back of your head roughly as they moaned softly into your mouth, your tongues warring with each other. They turned and pushed you back against the side of the building and ground their pelvis into yours. You gasped as you felt their bulge press into your crotch, and you would have allowed them to take you right then and there, should they be so inclined.
Instead, they broke the kiss and stepped away from you, watching as your chest heaved, your eyes wild with desire. âLook at you,â they purred. âLook at you, you wild, naughty thing.â
âStop teasing me,â you warned, your voice thick with lust.Â
âOh trust me,â Luba replied. âIâm not. But I am wondering what you will be doing after I get off work. Iâd like to continue this little adventure of ours.â
âIâm at a bachelorette party with my friends,â you said, rolling your eyes. âItâs torture.â
âDitch them,â Luba said simply. âIt will be easy.â
âHow?â you asked, puzzled.
âOh their shit will definitely be stolen by the time you get back,â they said as your mouth fell open in dismay. âThey will be furious with you.â
âNo thatâs awful!â you cried.
âDonât worry,â Luba cooed. âI know where all the shit that is stolen here gets fenced. I can get it back, and then they will forgive you.â
You couldnât help but laugh. âYouâre evil,â you said.
âMaybe,â Luba said, tossing their spent cigarette away and striding toward the back door to the club. âBut something tells me you will enjoy that.â
You smiled wryly, following them to the door. Yes, you thought. Yes I do believe I will.
