this morning we had car trouble (oil light kept turning on, even after refilling), now we have water leaking down our living room wall because the drain for the washing machine wasn't placed correctly.

I've been bawling my eyes out all afternoon. I am so incredibly tired and hormonal, my brain just crashes.

Just my luck to indirectly flood the laundry room again RIGHT BEFORE IM SUPPOSED TO MOVE!!

#I had dishes in the laundry sink that were soaking overnight #I live in a basement #and have never had access to the dishwasher or kitchen upstairs #where my landlady lives #so I’ve always had to handwash everything #and so I left those dishes overnight #intending to get to them today #my first free day since signing the lease on my new place #where I didn’t have work #and so I’m about to bring a load of stuff to my car #and the laundry room floor is covered in an inch of water #someone did laundry not realizing my dishes were still in the sink #not realizing they were covering the drain #the sink over flowed with water draining out of the washing machine #and flooded the floor #I hate this so much #luckily it was taken care of relatively quickly #I can still move things through it #but geez it severely halted my progress #and my brother comes to pick up the U-Haul I rented in 20 minutes #pray for me and this mess #I just wanna get out of there

as it turns out I don’t think I’m physically suited to be a laundress

#I decided to hand-wash the red silk for #RRD cosplay #and now I am le tired #hopefully it was worth it #I washed it in a big Ikea tub in my shower #did one round with a little bit of shampoo #then drained that and then another round with a little bit of white vinegar #then drained that and did a final rinse #all in lukewarm water #now the fabric is drip-drying on a line outside #it's been so cold and rainy here lately that I wanted a relatively warm and sunny day #and this is the only one for the next 10+ days looks like #I debated whether or not to wash this fabric #since it may change the sheen a bit #but before I start sewing I wanted to be sure that any shrinking had happened #and that I wouldn't have to risk water-spots in the future #this will never be a throw-in-the-washing-machine cosplay #but I would like to be able to at least hand-wash it if I need to #I've made far too many non-washable cosplay things over the years #never again #also this fabric shipped from India and even after a couple weeks out of its packaging it still smelled like shipping envelope #overall I am convinced that hand-washing this is the best course of action #but boy was it tiring #spoonie life #cosplay plans #my sewing #sorta

daily reminder that construction codes are there for a reason, such as 1) having a p-trap in your waste lines is so that sewer gasses don't come back up and into the house and give your laundry room a faint lingering, unpleasant odor

2) having your drain pipes at a downward incline means you don't get standing water in your drain lines, which will pour nasty stagnant water all over you when you go to remove it

3) putting the top of your washing machine drain standpipe above the drain exit point of the machine, so when the washer pumps out the water it doesn't flood the pipe (which is full of stagnant water because its at a backwards incline) subsequently backflowing and spilling out over the course of oh, 15-20 years, causing serious rot issues in the wooden floor

The laundry room is so flooded because the plumbing is wack af so on a good day the pressure of walking on the tiles will cause water to ooze up from the cracks in the floor but on a bad day like today it is like a river is running through the entire room 😭

BRO WHY IS IT THAT LITERALLY EVERYTHING HAS DECIDED TO FALL APART AT THE SAME TIME

#i mean this very literally #there must be some kinda murphy's law for furniture and appliances #first my blind breaks #then my bedframe breaks #the washing machine is basically unusable #dehumidifier broke but that's only one tiny plastic jibber so mayyybe it's glueable #stovetop still works but the burner plates are so fucked #yard brush fell apart AGAIN #and ofc all the things that were already broken (tumbledryer. couch arm. oven...) aren't magically any more fixed #oh yeah the hot water tap in the bathroom!!! that stopped working like a monthago #at least it was only the tail end of winter??? not QUITE as bad as it coulda been???#oh and the dishwasher is like half broken #well one of them is fully broken #the other works but 1 in 4 times it doesn't drain #OH AND THE LIGHTS #the perfectly normal functional lights that my dad replaced with fuckin wifi controlled bulbs that operate entirely from q #1 app on HIS phone #and it took him MONTHS to install switches for them that we could use so we had to fucking ASK him every time #AND he had them set to turn on to red by default bc he 'finds it calming' but it MAKES ME NAUSEOUS #and now we do have switches but A- they don't have actual clickers #B- switches and bulbs arbitrarily have been deciding they don't wanna play ball any more #and the only way to fix it is to screw the bulb into the socket of a functioning bulb and then return it #FOR SOME REASON #this happens every few weeks #and he's on the other side of the planet so if the software glitches he can't do shit about it #same system also controls the heating!!! we can't choose the temperature easily we need to ASK HIM #and when the heaters turn on the fairy lights strobe for SOME. REASON.#why does he maintain his delusions of having a smart house when EVERYTHING IS FUCKING BROKEN #and whenever he attempts diy it takes like a week. usually doesn't work or breaks stuff more in the process. and he's angry the whole time #lexi stfu challenge
