Spoiler! He never did). This man raised a Sect from the brink of near extinction in about 3 months and at the age of what, seventeen?? And then rebuilt it all on his own?? Hardy Days

January is a month that takes some time to break into like brand new shoes. It always feels longer than it is. It has been a while since I’ve been online properly though for the best reasons. My days have been full. My desk succumbs to entropy just as soon as I’ve tidied it up, my planner is abundant with marks, overflowing with tasks in constant flux. But that just means my hours are well consumed. My days feel very lived in and I’m endlessly thankful for that.

It hasn’t been all work though! I managed to read 4 books so far this month, two of which I would like to mention here. The first book I read is Before We Say Goodbye, which is the fourth book in the Before the Coffee Gets Cold Series by Toshikazu Kawaguchi. I think the fourth one is my favorite so far, if not a close second to the first book. This one made me cry so hard it felt like a cardio exercise haha. The fifth book hasn’t been translated yet and I’m too impatient so I went ahead and started it in Japanese. I was just telling a pal how much comfier it is in the original language. I think I will reread the previous books in Japanese as well once I can get ahold of it from Kinokuniya. I’m so excited!

Another book I finished recently is Voices of the Dead by Ambrose Parry. It’s a historical fiction medical/crime novel set in Victorian Edinburgh. It also has hints of angsty romance between the two main characters, and if you know me at all, you know angst is my fuel, my reason for being lmao. But on top of the already very attractive premise, I must say the pervasive question of “am I what I come from or am I what I can become” throughout all the books is such a robust subject that I can never get enough of. I really enjoyed it! Ah, but now I’ve got to wait for the next book (if there is one). I’m pretty hopeful because the ending was set up for a continuation for sure, but you never know. Also, can I just complain about something extremely petty? Why is the fourth book’s spine different from the rest of the series? It’s from the same publisher, the same font is used. But why is the symbol not the same size as the other volumes’ symbols? WHY. Why would they make it not line up properly like that? I’m losing my mind!!

Now, I’m not one for redecorating just because it’s a new year, but I did change up my vinyl corner by switching out the old art with two posters in matching red—one from a Mitski concert way back in 2017, and one poster of Billie Marten’s 2023 album. Two very different eras of my life coming together. Quite poetic now that I think about it.

While on the subject of music, I’ve had Marika Hackman’s new album “Big Sigh” on repeat since it came out. Oh my god it’s so so good. I remember thinking when I first heard it, god, this is like having my guts pulled out of me. The lyrics are so raw I felt like my chest was going to cave in. Even the music conveys such angst and self-sabotage. The one song that struck me the most is the penultimate song called “Please Don’t Be So Kind.” That one really spoke to me. I love it so much I figured out the guitar chords by ear because I badly wanted to play it. (It’s just three chords in slightly different arrangements throughout the song: C/G-D/A-Em7/B. Half-step up tuning or more conveniently with capo on the 1st fret). I haven’t stopped thinking about the album and I don’t think I will ever stop doing so. I feel that my life is made richer by having listened to this body of work. Even though it’s rather depressing, I actually relish that about it. I think I’m at an age now where I can clearly see my emotion outside my body. It’s a place I can visit as I please. I can work through my feelings and then when I’ve done my best with it, I can leave it be. I can experience things as deeply as I want to while having the confidence that I won’t lose myself in it. It’s a very freeing sense of clarity.

Also, this is from a while back now but I got the newest volume of the coffee magazine I’m subscribed to and the coffee sampler they sent for the quarter is stellar. It tasted of peach and orange, it was insane. The sampler had enough for only two espresso double shots but it made such an impact I just have to note it down here. The roaster, A Matter of Concrete, is based in Rotterdam. I might have to pop in there to try more of their coffee one of these days. Oh, but this reminds me that my grinders are due for a cleaning. Right, I’ll have to do that sometime tomorrow. And I’m not looking forward to it because I’m always anxious I’ll fuck up the burrs or put the grinders back all wrong. Also, looking at this photo, I have to polish my espresso machine, don’t I? Oops.

What else have I been up to? I’ve recently reconnected with my best friend from my undergraduate days and it has been such a blessing. We didn’t have a fight or anything. We just drifted apart because I moved away for my MA and they went back home for a job offer. But they reached out to let me know they’ll be moving to Europe to start a second degree and a career change!! Which means we will be able to see each other again!! Oh, I’m looking forward to that so much I’m counting the days. I have such fond memories of them I can’t wait to bear hug the hell out of them haha.

I also finally decided to finish a writing project I have left alone to stew in its own unfinished mess for far too long lol. I forced myself to churn as much words as I could, and then the arduous task of negotiating what to keep, what to expand and what to cut came soon after. I’ve since finished it and I’m relieved to have concluded that story. I’m quite satisfied with the arc. It felt like a good study of how I write, what I want from a story and how I can achieve it. Writing is a process of self discovery and I’m always overwhelmed by that feeling when it’s happening in real time. Like you feel minute parts of yourself shifting into new positions, light shed in previously dark corners. It’s overwhelming and terrifying, yet tranquil and natural at the same time. I look forward to whatever I’ll find in the next writing project.

Anyway, I’m off to do a bit of translation work. It has been quite an eventful Friday for me over here, and my weekend is looking like it will be just as busy. How has your January been? And most recently the anniversary pressing of Seven Swans by Sufjan Stevens. It is so pretty and is my favorite of their albums.

They are all albums I enjoy, I tend not to buy unless I enjoy the album through and through, over half have been bought second hand, the old ones smell old, ive cleaned mold off one of them. I have a TON of John Denver. I don't get them because I think vinyl sounds better I just generally think it's a cool way of listening to music that we've invented. While I have more vocal albums, I do really like having soundtracks or other instrumental soundtracks because its nice to have one on while im writing.

Goal is to keep them in good health but im not going to stress over keeping them in mint condition.

for those of you who are not in the trenches..

“I don’t smoke” was a song released on September 29th, 2014, part of Mitski’s third studio album, Bury Me at Makeout Creek. It is (in my opinion) one of the best songs on that album, only beat by Texas Reznikoff and Carry Me Out

(although others may argue that Francis Forever and First Love/Late spring were the most impactful songs on that album, and they are also technically the most popular. fun fact! Francis Forever was in adventure time!)

the album contains many other AMAZING songs, such as : Townie, Jobless Monday, Drunk Walk Home (very popular!) I will, and Last Words of a Shooting Star (one of my personal favorites).

i digress.. let’s get into what this spells out for richgirlyn.

everything that follows will be my interpretation..

i don’t smoke is about being in a toxic relationship that you can’t let go of— I see it as letting someone destroy and hurt you because you love them so much, or they’re all you’ve ever known— or maybe you’re just self destructive! The song is about letting someone hurt you, so that they can feel better even if it ruins you— it’s to make the person feel better, no matter how much it destroys you— you are there to make [them] feel better.

tldr: the song is about letting someone hurt you so they can feel better

now.. let me just guess here. let me just put these lyrics out and let them marinate. lemme do a lyric analysis real quick.

“I don’t smoke, except for when I’m missing you/to remember your mouth, how it tasted true/And I don’t smoke, except for after I’ve held you, baby/Being with you makes the flame burn good”

Smoking is clearly a destructive habit— it ruins your lungs and your health. The singer (who I’m gonna assume is richgirlyn, metaphorically) smokes to remember their partner (CHAEWONS STUPID ASS) who hurts them (emotionally or physically. we’re not sure. I believe in the context of the song, it’s emotionally)

the singer misses their partner that hurts desperately, so you can already tell this is a toxic codependent relationship. (maybe onesided codependency)

They smoke after they’ve “had” their partner so they will forever correlate smoking with the partner.. I wonder what this means..

“So if you need to be mean, be mean to me/I can take it and put it inside of me/If your hands need to break more than trinkets in your room/you can lean on my arm as you break my heart”

if this is what’s in store I am ruined. like, what do you MEAN this is what my #1 forever is going through… richgirlyn IS GONNA BREAK DOWN (internally).

anyway, this speaks for itself. The singer is offering themselves up to be a punching bag so their partner feels better, because they don’t want their partner in pain and want them to love them.

“I’m what’s left of when we swam under the moon/Now the rest of my days are just waiting for when/You’ve calmed down and tell me, ‘I was meant for you’/Baby, being with you makes the flame burn good”

based on the verse ‘I’m what’s left of when we swam under the moon’, we can guess that the partner was once kind to the singer

the line ‘Now the rest of my days are just waiting for when you’ve calmed down and tell me I was meant for you’ is.. obviously saying that the singer is waiting for their partner to come back to them, or revert to their previously kind self— this is why the singer most likely lets their partner hurt them, offering themself up to placate them in the hopes that ‘this’ll be the last time, and then they’ll go back to loving me’ or something in that vein.

The chorus repeats, and then the bridge:

“Just don’t leave me alone wondering where you are/I am stronger than you give me credit for”

Based on this line, I interpret it as the partner trying to distance themselves/leave the singer, so they can stop hurting them, and the singer clinging on desperately, saying they can’t take it, and to not leave them— they want the partner to stay so bad even if it kills them.

“If your hands need to break more than trinkets in your room/you can lean on my arm as you break my heart”

i always interpret this line as the final plea of the singer for the partner to stay— do I think the partner stays? No, not at all. This song feels like the progression of a toxic relationship, up until the very end.

it’s safe to say if this is what we have in store for richgirlyn, I will genuinely have to be put on some kind of watch.

like.. does she let Chaewon say hurtful things to her and just take it because she likes her.. like we know she gets defensive and fights back but she was like. vulnerable with chaewon.. does the things the members say (maybe not out loud, but she sees their looks..) does it all pile up before she just cracks? does she let them break her heart again and again because she loves them, and.. deep down does she think it’s true sometimes? IM GONNA ACTUALLY LOSE IT😭😭it’s so over for me. i love richgirlyn I’m so glad everyone’s giving her the attention she deserves I KNEW SHE WAS COMPLEX GUYS SHES LITERALLY SO ME😭😭

Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd by Lana Del Rey

I recently heard this album described as luscious and I think that is the best adjective for it.  It’s very rare for me to get behind an album that is over an hour long, but with an almost hour and a half runtime on this one I somehow was left wanting a 2-3 hour long album.  The songwriting and production on this album was the biggest flex I have ever heard.  I remember before A&W was released there was a rumor going around that Jack Antonoff produced a song for Lana that completely shifted genres in the middle of the track and I couldn’t wait to hear it.  My favorite albums from lana are Norman Fucking Rockwell and Chemtrails over the Country Club and now I think Did you Know that there’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. is in the top 3.

The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess by Chappell Roan 

An album that takes the experience I know a lot of rural midwestern young adults have when it comes to figuring out their sexuality and dips the whole thing in glitter.  The vibes and aesthetic of this album are immaculate and I find myself revisiting a number of the tracks frequently.  It’s messy and boisterous and electrifying, and since this is a debut album I look forward to what else comes out of Chappel Roan.

This is an incredible sophomore album from Olivia that really expunded on all the things that were amazing on Sour.  The riot grrrl influences were so strong and I love that she leaned into the sound that she had on the track “Good 4 U” on her first album.  I think she really excels in that form of songwriting and production.

This is such a fun album from Paramore! My favorite album by them is still After Laughter but this still has some tracks that are reminiscent of it while still paving a way for a newer sound from them.  I saw them in concert this year and man do they know how to put on a show too.  Hayley is an incredible vocalist and there were a lot of tracks on this album that showcased that.  I want to give a quick shout out to the response album to this Re: This is Why.  My only disappointment with this album was that it was only 10 tracks long and no deluxe version was released, but this collab album was incredible.  C'est Comme Ça is now an official Wet Leg song to me, and other tracks like The Linda Linda’s version of The News and Julien Baker’s Thick Skull were beautifully done

The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We by Mitski 

A beautiful addition to Mitski’s discography.  This album combines her usual prose with a folky americana production style.  It’s a very immersive album I find myself having to listen to the whole album at once instead of just putting on certain tracks from it.  Mitski is really our here dominating the song writing game with Lana and Taylor, and this album is a great demonstration of that.  Usually I care more about the production of an album than the lyrics but with this one it was very hard not to pay attention to what she has written.

This was such an amazing album especially since Berninger talked about the writer block he had. When they wrote Tropic Morning News they said that was a turning point in their songwriting process which is really cool, it is definitely my favorite track from the album.  I also love Frankenstein and I think the title of the album is interesting and so relevant to what the album is. Also putting Phoebe on two songs was very slay of them.

Love the boys!! When this album got announced I was so hyped along with a lot of my friends.  The first songs that were released were so exciting and then when it was announced Kristen Stewart would be directing the music videos I legit almost keeled over I was so excited.  The Record was a phenomenal album and like Mitski’s it works better listening all the way through than just singles.  I also love that more people were introduced to Lucy Dacus from this album it’s what she deserves.

Miss Taylor.  The queen.  Speak Now TV was AMAZING and everyone moved on from it too fast.  I understand everyone is excited for the re-records, but I feel like a lot of people aren’t taking the time to savor them.  I think Speak Now and Red are her best re-records to date.  Her vocals are so powerful and the vault tracks were very well done.  I’m still thinking about the music video for “I Can See You” with Taylor Lautner and Joy King, that is definitely one of my favorite Taylor Music videos to date.

As soon as I saw Ethan Hawke on the tracklist I knew this was gonna be a great Fall Out Boy album.  I heard a lot of people critisizing the songwriting on this album but I personally that it was really good, just not as emo as their past stuff lol.  Heaven, Iowa is definitely one of their best songs to date.  I also was able to see them live this year and the pullet of the dog was one of the coolest set pieces I have ever seen.

I was able to secure tickets for the second leg of this tour for next summer I am very excited.  I was so excited when this album came out and the singles that were released were immaculate.  I eventually want to do a read of Dante’s Inferno and compare it to the album, I think I might get a lot more out of this album if I do that.  But I think the songwriting and vocals on this album were great and i enjoyed a lot of the tracks off it.

October 3 - New York City to Pittsburgh

10:53am

I have just boarded the 43 Pennsylvanian Amtrak train en route to Pittsburgh. The seats are modern, I found a window-one that faces backwards. Fine by me. I’m on here for the next ten hours. Better get comfy.

Looking forward to seeing eerie Pennsylvanian landscapes. And imagining that I am John Schmidt, my great great grandfather who arrived in New York City and traveled to Pittsburgh as an immigrant. He bought a tomato mistaking it for an apple.

I feel a mixture of emotions. Excitement to see new places. Embarrassment for doing something random. Anxious that I have no job lined up and am winging the next part of my life. Anxious that the tofu polenta garbage I cooked for dinner is leaking in my Trader Joe’s bag.

But I’m moving. I’m out of bed, I’m trying something. I feel joy riding new transit and the Pennsylvanian is no exception. This week has been weird. Toms uncle died, his whole family came in and I saw them each day. It was nice seeing the whole family together. I’m glad I decided to see mine this upcoming weekend. It’s worth it to spend time with the whole group.

The doors have closed. Any second now I will begin rolling backwards. Gliding on the track, replaced in pieces, that my ancestor experienced when he arrived with his future unknown. It could be a lot scarier. I am grateful for this railroad reminder.

What do I expect for the next two and half weeks? More than anything I am sure I’ll be ready for home afterward. Ready for Tom, ready for Mary, ready for a kitchen, ready for bed. Hopefully ready for a job with a bucket of self esteem in hand.

Someone has a bag of pencils behind me. It’s a comfortably distinct sound—the track sounds smooth here too—and I pray that I can relax on my trip. I wonder if moving each day will complicate or enrich the journey. The conductor says “you’re supposed to be a tourist, act like one” to the mom who claims her daughter is embarrassed. I also wonder how many times I will listen to the new Mitski album, the Land is Inhospitable and So Are We. We just emerged from the Hudson and the sun is bright and strong. So far so good.

2:30pm

We are the midway point, Harrisburg, headed west. Amish country did not disappoint. I saw school children in the yard, cows, and stone barns. At Philadelphia I ran upstairs to the station to buy a juice. Waiting in line to come back down, an older man gave me a hug when realizing we were both going to Pittsburgh. This is his first time on Amtrak, and he is now seated in front of me. He has offered me all his snacks–Doritos, Oreos, Peanut Butter Crackers–and I am hesitant to engage too much with him because overly friendly people on transit make me nervous. I wish that weren't the case, but I feel safer with unfriendly non-talkers.

Bill, the best engineer I know, just called me because he received my auto-email explaining that I am no longer at the Job. He just wanted to wish me Good Luck. Believe it or not there are kind people.

The train backed into Philadelphia and then received its diesel engine on the other end, so I am actually facing forward. I have a coffee in hand and we just took a smoke break at Elizabethtown. Rolling forward now.

5:50pm

Thoughts. This is ground I have never covered. What you realize, rolling along the the Pennsylvania Railroad, is why there are no high speed trains to Chicago. It is curvy. It goes slowly. It makes me wonder what improvements to this corridor would look like. It might mean grade separation at places where the train goes 25 mph. Fences. Bridges. That’s what I’d do. If there were more frequent reliable service that would help.

These towns are ones that I know. Covington and Clifton Forge along the Juniata River. Invisible cities repeat at different altitudes throughout the Appalachians. Now we’re picking up speed. Picking up red, too. When we started the foliage was mainly green. Then mainly yellow. Now it’s sprinkled with red.

I’m working to appreciate Fall. Historically it’s made me nervous, sad, cold. But I have to say that on this route it has been extremely gorgeous. I think my phone's battery is on its last leg. I’m charging but it dies very quickly. I suppose I may need to order a new one. We’re just north of Cumberland.

I'm in bed in Pittsburgh at Kristen and Luke's. It's a comfortable old house, reminds me of home. I keep thinking about whether I would like life more in a place like this. Where I could own space. Tomorrow I go walking through the city. Should be nice weather. Curious how my impression of Pittsburgh will change on foot.

I ended up talking to the old man who sat in front of me. He really wanted to be friends. He had just gotten out of prison and only had a trash bag of his belongings. I bought him a beer and chatted for the last hour of the trip. His name was Michael, from Pittsburgh, his house had burned down and he was going to stay with his Mom.

I promised Kristen I wouldn't chat with strangers unless I really wanted to. I didn't want to chat with Michael, but I'm glad I did. It helps to have people pull you out of you head.

Kristen and Luke have a black bunny and a sweet dog. The bunny's fur reminds me of Mary's and the dog looks like a deer. Luke's family is from Pittsburgh and I can hear a train in the distance. The Amtrak station here was really unfortunate. Something of an Amshack under a highway with no proper entrance.

Tomorrow the plan is to walk to North Side, get coffee, go to Mattress Factory, then bus to the Strip, bus to Oakland for Carnegie Museum of Art in the afternoon. Dinner at Noodlehead.

Hello welcome to another one of my ramblings. I was listening to Last words of a shooting star by mitski, thinking about my mc Logan, and how many authors that make the new exchange student nice make them side with original MC. Then to my mind came this scenario, it's not really connected to the one I wrote prior.

Talking to human B, Satan and Belphegor, the 4 of them were just chilling, on the common room of the house of lamentation, belphie sleping while the other 3 discussed some thriller webtoon Logan had introduced to them. At some point the topic about Logan falling down the stairs earlier that day comes out, he didn't really get hurt but he did fall weirdly, turns out it's normal for him to fall and trip? He has mastered the art of falling with style and said something about how whenever he falls with his full body he thinks "Ah yes this is how I die", but when he actually died he was thinking about the song mentioned before.

Logan pulls out a guitar out of some magic space whatever and plays the song for human B, let's call him Billy, and Billy is like "gurrl" and Logan is like "IKR!!". The demons do not understand this interaction, they are on the stage where they are like "nooo why are you hoarding all of Billy's time to yourself, stupid human" so they are mad and about to say something to Logan but Billy chimes in asking for another song. The only other song Logan knows how to play in acoustic guitar is Can't you see I'm lonely (the OTGW version) so he plays it and Billy immediately recognizes it.

Levi comes into the scene of the two of them full on nerding out and calls them out on it, they respond with "shut up weeb" in unison, they look at eachother, they're besties.

The demons present on the other hand don't really know how to feel because one "Noo Billy pay attention to us not him" but also they don't know shit about human (western)cartoons and realize they had never seen Logan interact with another human his age (they're 20), because sure there was Solomon, but Solomon was almost as old as them, he wouldn't know about some cartoon. So it's conflicting, this new human could give Logan something that they could never, this starts to slowly snap the three of them out of their new human trance.

Their next public human to human interaction happens at next day's breakfast, they sit right next to eachother rather than on their normal places at the table, talking this time about human music, mostly how they both like punk. All of the brothers realize something, while passionately talking about how Welcome to the black parade moght be the best album ever, Billy is giving Logan the same eyes they used to.

Lucifer interrups them by bringing up RAD assignments, they give him the 'shut up boomer glare'. Of course they did their assignments, right after a marathon of the scream movies and a cool dinner of pizza rolls and orange juice. They had a slumbie also, cuddled a lot, they didn't say that out loud but the brothers could just tell.

Mammon asked Logan to hang out with him later but sorry he had plans to go to hang out with Bills on the lake later, Sorry Mammon :(! But wait hold on, wasn't Mammons nickname supposed to be Mams? Why are you calling him Mammon and using a similar one for Billy? He wasn't even paying attention to Billy anymore.

That night he had planned to go to a casino and abuse Logan's luck blessing he had gotten from some fairy on the woods but now he was stuck rambling to Levi on his room about "How dare he turn down the great Mammon? Who does he think he is?! Weren't you two supposed to be the closest? Joined at the hip and everything?"

Hanging out with Asmo didn't change much surprisingly, shopping put for the newest beauty products was fun, fun for the humans that is. Getting some weird face masks and makeup they thought was cool, ignoring Asmo's off handed comments about how Logan absolutely needed them more than anybody, Billy overshadowing him with complimenting Logans steady hand while doing eyeliner, even surprising them both asking "what else are those hands good for?" With a smirk and a wink.

Worse, it works, IT WORKS?! Asmo spent the better part of two years trying to seduce this human, and suddenly this new one comes and immediately swoons him off his feet??? He hadn't even gotten beyond playful kisses and touches but here was Billy just a few weeks in, already managing to know exactly how his human wanted to be flirted with.

Asmo of course whined about it "It's about context" Logan said, not making sense to the demon at all.

"Cooking is one if Logan's hobbies, and he is really good at it" Was the most recent discovery Billy had made, some really fancy looking toast was given to him, alongside a very exited face, this was a new recipe. The gleam on his eyes while explaining the ingredients an process at the same time Logan was playing with his free hand gave Billy the best kind of butterflies he ever had. The moment was about to get somewhat intimate, fingers interlocking, when Beel walked into the room.

Beelzebub immediately noticed the fact that Logan had cooked something, the only thing he got was an apology tho, "Sorry I just made enough for two people to taste" Wha- What did he mean? Logan always asked him to taste test new recipes, that toast was supposed to be his? Why did Billy had it? Billy wanst even good at cooking! Of course Beelzebub didn't say most of his thoughts out loud, but he sure did let out a displeased grunt when he had to settle for some store bought snacks that were already on the fridge.

He wasn't as mad when Logan said that now he knew how to make this new recipe he would make it for him later, something about this still bothered him.

It was clear as day what was happening when the HoL gang decided to go out for karaoke. Levi didn't even get to hog the mic like before because Logan and Billy already had it. Sure at first they liked Billy, he was the shiny new human that Diavolo brought to study in the Devildom, he had style and this air of mystique to him at first, even stepping down from being the #1 simps of the old human for him.

Big fat mistake, while they left Logan out in the open ocean, turns out the shiny new rock wasn't a rock, but an octopus in camouflage, ready to devour their pretty fish they took so long to capture.

Now there they were, on their faces singing some human love song about haunted houses, not even trying to hide how much they clicked together like puzzle pieces, truly unbearable. But now they knew, they had to bring their beloved human back to them, he belonged with them, they knew they were to blame for alienating him for another new human, but the new human was no longer the object of their interest, but their enemy.

sometimes i wish i had never asked you to hang out with me

i wish you would have just said no instead of like getting my hopes up. i wish you hadn't lied about things too when you finally came back.

i spent about a week hyping myself up before i actually like asked. i honestly thought i was going to throw up like every single day before then. i'm a little surprised i didn't after i did even though i was actually pretty proud of myself for actually going for it. it's odd to feel like that is now kind of like the best and worst day that i can remember in a very long time. it took a few weeks to sink in before it felt like the worst. and then a few months before it hit me in the face. i think that is part of what's made it so hard for me to like let go of all of this. why? i want to know why you did everything like this?

you could have just told me you changed your mind. i know that's scary. i know even saying no is scary. but i was VERY scared to even ask. doing the scary thing a lot of the time is the right thing.

i still cannot bring myself to really be upset with you. i miss seeing you around here. even if you never messaged me again i would be so happy just to see you posting. i like seeing the things you like, or even the things you dislike, seeing your thoughts and feelings and things.

i wonder sometimes what you thought of the new mitski album. i wonder if you listened to the new beach bunny album. i wonder what you're reading right now, watching, playing. Are you excited for tears of the kingdom? what version of pokemon are you going to get?

i feel so messed up. i really wanted to be someone that mattered to you. for a while i thought maybe i did. i wanted to be close, really close, maybe even some day your closest friend. maybe that's selfish of me. you said a lot of really sweet and kind things to me. we had some really nice interactions. i was feeling really down and lost and everything around me was crumbling and you were just so sweet and kind to me. you made me feel special and like i was worth something to someone and now that's just gone without any real explanation, probably no closure, and you probably don't even think about me. i feel like such an idiot. i've thought about you every single day since december.

can we talk about how most all artists have developed their creative voice through the pandemic and the other horrible, life-changing things we've gone through? it's bittersweet, but so beautiful at the same time, to see my favs expressing themselves in such unique ways.

billie went from being purple to golden, harry is writing such sweet, coffee-shop-y, 90s soft disco/indie music, rosalia wrote a freaking collage instead of an album, mitski is getting louder in some strange way...

here's my opinion of harry's house:

music for a sushi restaurant: felt very 90s video game energy. i woke up and the first thing i did was listen to this, and i want to set it as my alarm. i would wake up with a smile on my face, ready to complete my little tasks of the day.

late night talking: i really just wanted to get up and dance. the harmonies are amazing. just. wow.

grapejuice: right off the bat, i'm horny. it's a hot song. H de horny, de harry, de "here i am: comeme todo el grapejuice". i want to have sex to it. the counting? my insides are twirly. but it's also weirdly romantic? like, we know, harry. you've had sex and it feels great.

as it was: disco crying. it feels like sobbing in the floor of a narrow bathroom at a party hosted by someone who hasn't acknowledged you all night. you can try to fool us with the jumping, fun music video but we know the truth. it's sad.

daylight: the lyrics. he's on the roof and they are on an airplane???? he's trying to reach them. i'm crying. also at 1:05 when the drums come in???? it feels so helpless. he's trying so hard. + the ending? devastating.

little freak: you're walking out of the bathroom at a party after crying. tear-streaked, lights everywhere but on you. you're insignificant. little do you know, someone is watching you as you look down to your feet. they're forcing their twitching hands to stay still, and if they don't concentrate hard enough, their body might just intuitively reach to you.

matilda: sobbing in big sister. literally, crying in the library in front of the books i study for everybody but myself. "you don't have to be sorry for doing it on your own". also that 7th on the outro?? goosebumps. i am a new person after listening to matilda.

cinema: okay i was definitely spiraling and this is the best. i can't wait to get the vinyl and listen to this at 2am. "do you think i'm cool too, or am i too into you?". that's it. the adlibs on the last 45 seconds. i'm alone this evening at home, and i'm definitely going to scream the adlibs. pray for the neighbours.

daydreaming: okay harry we get it. you're good at sex. you're a romantic guy.

keep driving: summer. listening to this song after failing my drivers test. driving in a convertible with a bandana on your hair, eyes closed and arms in the sky, laughing with your whole chest. did he just say side-boob? as he should.

satellite: bo burnham spiraling vibes. it's so bittersweet. you know when you're hanging out with a friend and someone they know comes up and starts talking to them? and you're standing on the side, waiting to be interesting enough to resume whatever you were doing? like a satellite.

boyfriends: i genuinely don't give a shit about harry's sexuality, but i hope he finds peace. now, onto the commentary. men are trash. it's vulnerability, it's trying over and over again. what's worse: it's asking him to try. it's him dismissing you. it's confusion. this one broke me.

love of my life: again - the harmonies??? hyperventilating rn, and im not even joking. a love letter. AAAAAH THE PIANO THINGY. I'M SHAKING. THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL.

if this helps, i'll tell you what i normally listen to, which is very basic & basically the same few artists over and over lol

- mostly just taylor swift, she makes up 70+% of my listening probably haha and if i had to pick a favorite genre of hers it would be the folkmore style

- some other pop, like olivia rodrigo and conan gray and lorde & some doja cat but i'm not a huge fan of doja's lyrics

- lyrics are really big for me, so is having a pretty voice and nice melodies

- i love your playlists but the old songs are usually not my style (there's been some though that i really like, ty for that !! <3)

charli xcx is more experimental pop but would rec trying out warm (FT HAIM!!!), blame it on your love (FT LIZZO!!), and official

rina sawayama — technically her album is all sorts of genres but especially XS, comme des garcons, paradisin', bad friend, and tokyo love hotel

tinashe — basically ALL of her new album!!! SO good. i also love rascal (superstar), esther, and old jams like company (and i JUST found out she has a chaka khan cover!)

chloe x halle have the most angelic vocals in the world
