Story - summarized

A young bud emerges in the valley. It looks unremarkable at first, but it knows it will grow and bloom into a beautiful flower!

But it only blooms on New Year's Eve.

While other plants end up in poems or hairpieces, the young flower ends up ignored and forgotten. It becomes lonely, wanting even one person to admire its beauty.

On a rainy New Year's Eve, a tiger appears. Instead of destroying the flower, it shields it from the rain. The two of them talk for a while, and the tiger promises to return the next New Year to watch the flower bloom.

The flower is so excited! Finally, someone will notice it. It gets ready all year, soaking up dew, storing nutrients, swaying in sunlight. And then it's New Year's Eve! ...But the tiger doesn't show up.

Years pass, and the tiger never shows up. It forgot its promise to meet again. Just as the flower was about to give up hope, it sees a humanoid figure through the mist, but with tiger ears and a tail. It's the tiger!

The flower is sick of waiting, so it tried reaching out to stop the tiger - the flower becomes human. With a form easy to move around in, the flower is no longer confined to the valley. It can search out the tiger on its own.

Connections

-Yuntan and Marina both get their first glimpse of Miraland on nights when they light fireworks. For Yuntan, it's for New Year's, and for Marina, in her memories for Exploding Fireworks, it's during the festival at Zither River.

-Yuntan was most likely able to transform into a human because she cultivated herself and her energy over years. You, Nikki, and Chi Xiaoyu learn about cultivating powers in the hell event Grand Obsession: the more energy you cultivate, the stronger your powers.

Fun Facts

-Yuntan as a flower only shows character art when the story takes place on New Year's Eve. All other times, it's just dialogue.

-Sometimes when a plant is sick, you can only tell by looking at their roots or stem for signs of rot.

-There's a Chinese word for "display of fireworks," and two of the characters translate to "fire" and "flower," like how Yuntan describes the fireworks from Yue City.

-I asked a friend of mine in the CN/TW server, and they said Yuntan's name directly translates to "dense clouds."
