Hi all, I wanted to make this post to set some gentle boundaries when it comes to my au.

I’ve had a few interactions like this now, and I’d rather make a post explaining my boundaries to prevent it from happening more.

This is not directed at one specific person. It has happened a few times with different people. I may reference experiences but the post in general isn’t directed.

Okay, to the point. Please do not make unsolicited comments criticising my designs/animal pick for characters. Especially if it’s a finished design. If you’re not happy with my choices, you have free will- pick up a pencil and make your own.

This includes backhanded compliments such as “this is cool, but I’d prefer if they were a ___” and “I’ll only see (character) as an (animal) but…”

While they may not be intended as such, these come off as rude and really hurt my feelings. You may know by now that I put a lot of thought and effort into every single design I’ve put out.

There are multiple factors, not just their personality and their looks. I take into consideration the dynamics they have with other characters, their behaviour, the way they move, their trap, etc. Some characters are designed with an overarching motif, for example, Wrath of the Gods (ty to the ppl who corrected me) are based on street animals, vermin, and each character will fall into that category. Adam and Lawrence? Cat and dog dynamic. Hoffman and Strahm? Competitors. Biological enemies. You get the gist.

Either way, I care a lot about my designs and for someone to invalidate them blatantly does hurt my feelings! And it does stick in my head for a while. In short, think about what you’re typing before you hit send. It may mean nothing to you but I assure you it means something to me.

If I am looking for advice on a characters design, I’ll ask for it! Suggestions on these posts are okay! As well as on concept sketches of a new design.

My asks are also open for anyone curious about lore and why I picked an animal for a character etc.

I love talking about it so please ask me!! If I don’t respond to your ask about a specific character it just means I don’t have art of them yet, please don’t think I’m ignoring you out of malice; I have a few asks I yearn to respond to in my inbox rn but I just need to draw something for em!

If you have said something like this and I ask you not to because it’s rude, please just apologise and promise you won’t do it again. Do not argue with me and make me feel stupid/belittle me for my boundaries. That adds salt into the wound and you will be blocked.

I will not dislike you or hate you for a misstep; it’s just about respecting me and my art.

On that note, I don’t condone people comparing my au to other animal AUs, or other artists in general. Do not tell another artist mine is better than theirs or vice versa. That is also rude and frankly, toxic. We are all human beings and deserve to be respected.

Having said all this, I want to say that if you have your own animal au; please don’t be scared to tell me about it! I love hearing and seeing others interpretations of the characters, all are valid in their own unique ways.

I also do not mind if you draw yours interacting with mine, in fact I love it! So don’t be scared to show me.

And lastly, I want to shout out some very cool people that also have animal aus for you all to enjoy!!

The Lore of my Rain World AU

PLEASE DO NOTE: This contains spoilers for multiple campaigns, read at your own risk.

The Beginning: Things start off rather normal in this timeline, everything, and I do mean everything up to Saint's campaign is the exact same. However the changes to how things play out with Saint drastically alter the course of events. In this timeline Saint's ascension ability leaves behind small cracks in reality, areas where the void's power has eaten away at the threads of space. Through these frayed holes things could pass into this reality. Many things did, most rather inconsequential. However two instances of things crossing over are rather notable, Enot, another timeline's failed triple affirmative, and our good friend Thamiro.

The Young God: Thamiro, who at the time was dipping his metaphorical toes into the world of creation magic and the alteration of reality, took interest in this world, mainly finding the many beasts that roamed the landscape interesting, his favorite being slugcats. He began shaping reality around him to allow the slugcats to do as he pleased, along with bringing back many of the slugcats we know and love, Survivor, Rivulet, Spearmaster, the whole lot. Eventually, he officially took up residence in this reality, setting up a hideout in Chimney Canopy. Nowadays he just messes around with his creation magic, occasionally messing with the slugcats when he feels like it and even exploring a few other AUs, most notably sometimes showing up in Aznackdreampower's Hotdogs AU from time to time. Fun fact, Thamiro is the canonical reason for the artstyle, due to the way he looks and his manner of creation, that being painting, everything he creates has an artwork-esque look to it. This is why you will sometimes see Thamiro interacting with objects or characters that aren't in his artstyle.

The Void: The void itself is an interesting thing in my AU, the void is an entire reality, which due to being composed almost entirely of voidfluid, has a tendency to bleed into other realities. This is my explanation for the copies of yourself you see when you dive into the abyss, those are other versions of you from other realities that dived in at the same time.

The Slugcats' New Lives: The slugcats all went on to do different things in their newly changed world, I'll give a brief summary on what each one is doing.

Survivor and Enot: These two got together and are kinda just goofing around doing their own thing, they like to travel a lot and don't really have any set home. Enot has a tendency to cause problems.

Monk: Currently living with Artificer as roommates of sorts, trying to live a normal life but living with Arti makes that difficult.

Hunter: In a relationship with Arti, lives with NSH, and is basically wheelchair-bound since Thamiro couldn't figure out how to get the rot out of him for good when bringing him back. Is a very caring partner who loves to show affection, considering despite being stuck in a wheelchair, he's been given a second chance at life and is not going to waste it.

Artificer: Monk's roommate of sorts and Hunter's partner, still hasn't quite gotten over losing her pups but she's working on it.

Gourmand: He's still a legend among the slugcats and has dedicated his life to cooking for the colony.

Rivulet and Spearmaster: The two got together and are doing their best to keep Moon in somewhat working order, considering Thamiro knows creation magic they often request spare parts from him. Unfortunately Thamiro can't create anything too complex like a rarefraction cell as he doesn't know how they work, and neither Riv nor Spear know how it works either, and Moon can't exactly remember.

What rainworld creature would you ever want to have its own campaign that isnt a scug?

oohhh a question that lets me brain vomit, lets see...

I've thought about it for a while and its kinda difficult to choose because sentient creatures are the way to go but I can see the appeal in something new. I have a lot of small ideas but the most I've thought out are:

Scavengers

An obvious choice but it'd be cool to have a campaign with a family of scavs. I'm talking new mechanics like being able to send commands and what not and being able to communicate with eachother; I realize they'd need their Ai remade entirely for that but whatever this isnt about how it'll work. I'm also imagining this in an entirely new map instead of the one we're so familiar with. I want the whole experience to be different. It'd be so cool if this took place sometime shortly after the ancient's global ascension and we'd be able to see the world in that stillness before everything began to be reclaimed. The surface would remain largely the same to what we're used to because majority of the ancients lived utop the iterators... but it'd be incredible to also have on both far sides of the map 2 iterators we can visit AND see their cities. I really want more lore to the game so this would be a lore heavy campaign and a look into what life was like before.

The smaller ideas that are less thought out are:

Lizard pet during the ancient's prime

An Ancient exiled to the surface, maybe shortly after the voidfluid revolution where everything is still cold but the weather is much more erratic (rain, snow, storms, it's lethality is less but more unpredictable) Id like to be able to also meet a newly built iterator <- something about telling them that the ancients are wrong about ascension, yippee!!
