Bonus Battle Couple Poll: Mod being self indulgent

I love battle couples but it wouldn't be fun if I nepotismed all of my faves into bracket (also they would've been swept and I would've been sad). So have a fun bonus poll! Also I infodump a little.

Voidblade (Cradle) VS Franticshipping (Pokémon Manga) VS Winterphoenix (My OCs)

Voidblade (don't think that's the widely accepted ship name but I saw it used once and I think it's cool)

Lindon and Yerin start out as strangers who team up due to circumstance, but they grow into friends and eventually, an incredible battle couple. Cradle's a progression fantasy series where everyone's trying to get stronger. Lindon starts out behind, but once he catches up he and Yerin complement each other in battle and fight to advance together.

A key moment in their relationship is when they're forced to face each other in an arena where they can't die and once Lindon gets over his reluctance to hurt Yerin, they absolutely enjoy the opportunity to fight each other without holding back. Yerin's fighting style leans more towards brute force, while Lindon literally has a spirit in his brain who helps him strategize to win fights before they begin. The two of them fight gods together. Upend the order of the world. Lindon gifted Yerin a sword forged from body of a dreadgod and immediately afterwards gave her a ring. Battle couple of all time.

Franticshipping

Ruby gave up battling because when they met as kids because the way he'd fought had scared Sapphire, but he fights again to protect her. Sapphire dedicated herself to growing stronger because she'd felt helpless that day and didn't want to be a burden again, wanted to be able to protect herself.

When they were on Mirage Island they trained to double battle with each other with Juan, Tate & Liza. Their Kirlias evolved (Ruby's into a Gardevoir, Sapphire's into a Gallade) at the same time. They rode Rayquaza into space to destroy the meteor and save the world together, and they did it while wearing contest outfits. I love them so much.

Okay I have barely written anything for them but I rotate them in my brain constantly. Holly's a superhero who never got to live a normal life because her father trained her since birth to take over his magical guardian of order duties, and when he died when she was fifteen she dedicated herself to protecting the world with barely any time for herself. Reid was a normal guy until he ended up kidnapped by a villain trying to exploit the powers Reid did not know he had.

Holly saved him, and after some reluctance Reid became a hero and together they took down the bad guys. Since then they've been a heroic duo, and Reid's eased Holly's burden – and ironically Reid, the fire guy, taught his gf with ice powers to chill. She showed him how to be a hero. He showed her how to be human.

O5-14: Glad to hear it, would you care for a croissant? Agent Landon: Nah, I’m all good, thanks, boss. O5-14: Then take a seat, I’ve created more android blueprints. I designed it with advanced mobility and security features for Site Security rather than fieldwork. Its limbs could extend up to fifteen feet with the rebar-infused composite I’ve theorized. I’ve developed a concept for something I call "blink-shift" technology. Whenever it detects any eyes on it, it’s notified and immediately goes in that direction. It would run through the Foundation’s personnel database to search for if the person’s eyes match the records and, if not, the invader is neutralized. It has specialized noise-dampening mechanisms that enable it to move silently, camera eyes that capture and transmit real-time video feeds to security personnel, along with standard-strength alloys. So, do you believe this is possible? Agent Landon: Um, yeah, all of this seems possible. I mean, I’d have to check with the chemical department to see if the composites you made are possible, but from what I know it looks fine. What else have you got? O5-14: *paper shuffling* BA076, The Berserking Abelbot. Agent Landon: Wait, what? O5-14: For this one, a goal was to input as much strength into as small of a bot as possible. However, this makes it so it needs a way to remove the excess energy, hence the markings across its body. It also comes with a very long, thin sword with obsidian edges, which I call the “Voidblade.” If need be, it can deploy an extremely durable and thick exosuit to absorb damage as it recharges and repairs itself. However, before entering the regeneration mode, it would enter a sort of rage state, highly increasing it’s strength and durability when it’s energy is low. Similar to UA682, this one would also feature the adaptation module, though additionally modified to include adapting to its opponent's fighting styles.  Agent Landon: No- I mean, this is literally just SCP-076 as a robot. O5-14: Agent, what are you talking about? Agent Landon: What I mean is that you have a pissed-off robot with a sword and red markings, and the design you gave me literally has fake hair which literally only serves as a visual equivalent! O5-14: Landon, I have no idea what you are talking about. Agent Landon: You called it the fucking Abelbot dude! O5-14: Regardless of your incorrect observations, do you believe you can construct them or not? Agent Landon: Well, probably, I just hope we don’t run into copyright issues.

On a Pale Horse, He Rode: Dragged along to a party by their father, Sam is present in Tranquillen when the Scourge comes to Quel'thalas to claim the Sunwell for their own dark purposes.

Abilities:

Larceny: Samantha was a skilled thief even before becoming one of the ren'dorei. She had a talent for minor theft honed as a young elf in Silvermoon City which only grew once she fled during the Scourge's invasion of Quel'thalas. She ran with Hulfdan Blackbeard's gang in Ironforge for years before the sin'dorei formally joined the Horde and she was forced to flee to Kalimdor lest she get arrested as a potential spy. Bonded to Annulus: In the early days of the Blood War Samantha became bound to a being of the Void, a bodiless entity known only as Annulus, which transformed her into one of the ren'dorei. Samantha was born with a rare affliction that made her totally unable to use magic of any sort, seen by some sin'dorei as a curse even. Whenever she utilizes her void elf abilities, its actually Annulus using her powers. Annulus is able to allow Samantha to do a sort of short-ranged teleport, guard herself with a layer of Void over her body, and degrade or dispel some enchantments.

Me and My Shadow: After being bonded to Annulus for several years, the void creature has enough of an anchor to Azeroth to manifest a temporary body to assist Samantha. She appears as a shadowy copy of Sam herself and can only remain active for a few moments, long enough to land an attack, but she can generate several bodies if needed in quick succession. These attacks are pure shadow, striking entirely with the power of the void. While they can be blocked with mundane armor, an actual injury to flesh will pour Annulus' voidborn energies into the victim... with all sorts of effects.

Minor Precognition: One of Annulus' most potent abilities is a minor form of precognition. She can see a short distance into the future (a few minutes at most) at any given time and is able to focus her powers to study the threads of fate... though the further into the future she looks the less certain it becomes (and it takes longer to see further.)

Leatherworking: Samantha learned early on in her career in thievery that self-sufficiency is a virtue and too many stops to the leather goods shop for armor repairs tended to raise eyebrows among more law-abiding citizens. She prefers to craft her own equipment these days, and even assists her other leather-wearing allies like Jaie and Shalandrae since her time in the Shadowlands.

History

Sam's story is a rough one to say the least.

Born Sam'ael Wintersky, the child of a powerful and influential Magister in Silvermoon City, they were expected to succeed their father… until their condition came to light.

Among the quel'dorei there is a rare affliction, the condition effecting the elf in question from the moment they're born, where they are unable to use magic at ALL. They are still connected to the Sunwell, they enjoy the benefits of extended life that all of the High Elves have… but they cannot perform any magic whatsoever. Even the most basic household cantrips such as animating a broom are beyond them… and Sam had this condition.

Their father, Danaforth Wintersky, found this unacceptable. A Wintersky without any magical ability whatsoever was a horrible embarrassment for his house, and so came the attempts to… fix… his child.

Quel'dorei mages, apothicaries, churgeons, and the like came to the Wintersky estate in secret (to save their father embarrassment,) then eventually the same from Dalaran as well. Their attempts at treatement ranged from ineffective to invasive, to humiliating, to downright excruicating… and all of them with a zero percent success rate. Sam remained as magical as a brick.

This infuriated the magister, who saw their child as a disgrace. They would either ignore them or abuse them (depending on their mood) which caused Sam to distrust them and hide things from them. They never spoke to their father about anything important to them at all, seeing them as a cruel and hateful man even while the rest of Silvermoon saw them as a hero.

Because of this, Sam also began to act out. It started out small enough, swiping candy and other trinkets… but soon escalated to pickpocketing, shoplifting, and more. They were the child of a powerful magister, they could simply BUY what they wanted, but they needed an outlet for their anger and they found that while they were bereft of magical talents they had fast hands and a cunning mind.

They even managed to steal a real prize, a sapphire pendant and heirloom of House Wintersky, from their equally abusive sister… before it happened. While attending a dinner party in Tranqillien, the Scourge invaded Quel'thalas.

Sam survived by hiding, then fled past the army to the south. Their parents were slain however. Danaforth was stabbed to death by Arthas himself while trying to hold back the Scourge with his magic, their mother torn apart by ghouls when the army reached the city walls (though Sam never learned her fate.)

After fleeing to the south to Dun Morogh they wound up falling in with Hulfdan Blackbeard and his gang of thieves in Ironforge Mountain until shortly after the Dark Portal reopened and the word went out that the elves, now known as the sin'dorei or Blood Elves, had defected to the Horde.

Sam was forced to flee again, this time to Kalimdor… where they remained until the early days of the Blood War almost a decade later. While attempting to rob Stormwind Castle in a bout of overconfidence, they came into contact with the core of a being of the Void known only as Annulus, which changed their life forever…

Fiona smirked from her throne, gently petting Hewie, who did not take his eyes off the Elf. The sceptre in her other hand identified her as the alchemist she was. With the title hers, so were the castle grounds, and all their wealth, knowledge, connections, and power.

"The previous Aureolus has only recently passed. I am his inheritor, his granddaughter. Whatever you once sought of him, you may seek from me now." From his manner of speech Fiona understood they hadn't met personally, but perhaps they had used intermediaries or corresponded, or perhaps her grandfather was one of the safekeepers of this Voidblade's unstable objects, which she also safeguarded. Any spell or potion he had bought off the man, she was also confident of being able to replicate.

stargrave update: oh my god what DIDNT happen in that one. lets see how much i can remember

so at the beginning we were kinda just attacking either the void abomination or the massive robot and trying to keep their health levels roughly the same and then just watching them attack each other. the robots other arm fell off which was fun, probably gonna get some nice scrap from that. but then listen to this right

with my two turns i landed the FINAL BLOW on BOTH OF THEM!!! i KILLED them fuckers after ages of doing very little to no damage cos i keep rolling 20s for activation/shooting then 1s or 2s for damage for some reason lmao. yeah i feel very accomplished. but also very bad for anyone in other rooms who heard "have i just killed someone?" "yes" *loud cheering*

also our sort of second in command (the guy who plays our captain hasnt been able to show up for ages) had an epic duel with a demon that was bssed on kind of like a "scoring points based on whether you choose to attack or defend and what the other person does" basis (because they have a voidblade they got chosen to do it). they smashed it! it was sad though because the demon said that all he could remember was his name and asked us to send him back to hell by killing him ndbfbf- also his last words were that he hoped his friends were okay :(

however we now have a decision to make. death showed up, because as previously stated gonk had died, but brought him back and said that we were fated to go to this planet and whatever decision we made there was fated to be the right one. but theres a three way war happening there and we have to choose who to side with

theres the gods, which would be cool as we would become essentially nobility and get diplomatic immunity for our crimes (we're smugglers) but also it does seem a bit like a trap so idk. we could also go with the demons but they did just try to kill us so. and we could go for the humans but by the sounds of it most of them are zombies anyway because of the 'redroot virus' and theyre under the protection of the belize codex which just fucked us up so. yeah decisions decisions

and the last thing is that uh. we got some foreshadowing that our ship (which is barely in one piece now) is gonna blow up after a 'landing with style' (crash) so thats fun i guess

I had to switch gears and shift from the summery Dragon beach volleyball tournament to something much darker! And what's darker than Black Howlers! I hope you like how it turned out. It took me a while to assemble the refs here, knowing next to nothing about bands :D and on top of it I still keep doing my one brush challenge thing. The rest of the rock dogs will follow in short order!

That it certainly is
