He passed her a bottle, and she drank. Now they stood together in the Hall of Elders, both wearing red, with a white ribbon tying their clasped hands together. The First Elder said something and everyone laughed, but the vision - Lindon gazed only at his new wife."

tHEN WE GET TO BLACKFLAME:

“We could…go west,” she suggested hopefully. (as in, Sacred Valley) He started to tell her no, but hesitated. She was referring to a legend. In the mountains to the west of the Desolate Wilds, there was supposed to be a hidden valley that occasionally emerged to trade with the outside. The inhabitants were weak, but protected by a curse. Jai Chen had been obsessed with the legend since she was a girl."

THEN WHEN LINDON MEETS JAI CHEN, HE THINKS HE RECOGNISES HER:

"Lindon was staring at her again, but at least it was at her face this time. “This may sound terrible, but have we met before? If I’ve forgotten you, I apologize, but you seem familiar to me.” Jai Chen had heard about him from her brother, but she’d never seen him in her life."

THEN WHEN SURIEL IS OBSERVING WHAT LINDON'S DOING:

"Lindon killed a Highgold, initiating a rivalry with a young man named Jai Long. Good. Pressure would help him grow. His sister was more interesting: she would have met Lindon in a few more years, if not for Suriel’s interference."

AND IT'S CANON THAT JAI LONG AND JAI CHEN GO TO SACRED VALLEY EVENTUALLY, SO EVEN WITHOUT SURIEL'S DISRUPTION THEY WOULD HAVE GONE THERE

Void Dragon

Cradle AU idea in which Jai Long, having been sent in exile to the allies of the Jai clan in the Desolate Wilds, rejects his fate.

Abandoning his duties and his family name, he travels past Sandviper territory and into the cursed valley from his sister's stories, where he takes the name Xukong Long.

While out in the Valley one day, he runs into 10 year old Shi Lindon, who has been exiled from his clan for attempting to steal the Path of the White Fox, and takes him in, intending to use the boy to strengthen the Sylvan Riverseed he had recently... liberated from a disciple of Heaven's Glory.

Ideas include Lindon on a dual path of Greatfather Lightning and Riverseed madra, Jai Long slowly but surely becoming a decent person that cares about more than just his sister, a Jai Chen romance, Eithan picking up a much larger set of disciples at the Transcendent Ruins, Jai Daishou being pissed that Eithan has acquired the long missing former scion of their clan, and Jai Chen forming a partner bond with Orthos and upgrading Fingerling.

I love thinking about children looking like their parents, what with the Ninja looking so much like their own.

Do you think Lou has to make sure he doesn’t accidentally call Cole Lilly because he’s the spitting image of her? Do you think once, after Lilly had first died and Cole hadn’t been sent to his school yet, that Lou accidentally called Cole ‘Lilly’ and Cole thought that she was back, she was there and here with them and when he glanced around to see her he realised that his father was looking at him in guilt? Do you think ever since then, before Cole found peace within himself, he looked at the mirror and only saw his mother? His mother’s face, her smile and kind eyes, reflected on his own?

Do you think when Cliff Gordon held Jay, the new born baby of Libber, that he only saw her face reflecting back at him? The adorable freckles and the curly hair? Do you think when Libber died, Cliff Gordon couldn’t look at the last thing Libber ever left him, and had to give Jay away less he broke down?

Did Wu look at Lloyd and see his brother’s young face reflected back at him? Do you think Wu wonders if Lloyd is what Garmadon could’ve been like?

Do you think Misako looked at Lloyd and saw her husband’s innocent face staring back at her, a lost memory that could never be her present or future?

Do you think Garmadon looked at Lloyd and saw all the things of Wu and Misako and knew that when the day came that he saw himself in Lloyd all he would-could- do was cry?

Do you think Kai looked and Nya’s young face, freshly orphaned and alone, and saw his mother’s gentle eyes and comforting softness? That when he would wake up, blurry eyed and tired, he would look at Nya’s face and have to make sure it isn’t his mother finally coming home?

Do you think Nya only barely remembered her father, so when she looked at Kai, old enough to actually remember and recall, she automatically thought he was her father?

Do you think Dr Julien looked at Zane and knew that this child was everything he could, and couldn’t be?

How many times did Chen look at Skylor, only to look away is disgust once he saw a face he wished he could never recall?

I seriously hate it when people start to villainize characters (let’s say, Kai) just to make more (let’s say, Jay) angst

Like no Rodrick, Kai didn’t beat Jay up for flirting with Nya. You know why? Because by that time Jay was better than Kai (Jay got more training since it was just the start and he joined 2nd, not 4th), and then Kai and Jay spend like every hour of the day together whether it’s training, eating or just chilling.

Yes, Kai will always be Nya's #1, but to the point he would beat Jay up?? Are you demented??

No, Jane, Nya wasn’t abusive towards Jay and forced him into a relationship. That in your sick head so you could have a reason for their breakup so you could ship Jay and Cole! (No hate to Bruise. Bruise supremacy)

A number of my Cradle AUs include the possibility of Jai Chen and/or Jai Long joining the crew or otherwise being taken in by Eithan.

In my Redmoon!Lindon concept. Eithan would take Jai Long and Chen back with him in the absence of Yerin and Lindon as potential disciples.

In Void Dragon, where Jai Long takes Jai Chen straight to Sacred Valley rather than going to the Sandvipers as instructed and then takes in an exiled Lindon, the three of them would be found by Eithan together at the Transcendent Ruins.

In Ghost of a Chance, a possible outcome of time traveled Lindon would be him avoiding conflict with Jai Long but still trying to help Jai Chen, with potential ramifications including Eithan taking an interest in Jai Long.

This snippet is my idea of one possible recruitment scene that could be tailored for use in any story where Jai Long gets recruited by Eithan.

Cradle Snippet

"Now, what to do with you?" Eithan Arelius said, looking down at the kneeling form of Jai Long. "Just how much trouble are you worth to me?"

Jai Long said nothing, knowing his life was in the hands of the Underlord.

Eithan stroked his chin with his hand as he continued.

"I find myself in a rather rare situation. I win no matter what I choose, and so do you! How marvelous."

He produced the Ancestors Spear from behind his back and Jai Long could not help but look up to track its movement with his eyes.

"I could just give you this you know? Give you everything you've ever wanted. Power, revenge, the ability to take your fate into your own hands. I could just set you loose on the Jai—a thorn in Daishou's side—digging away at his strength, distracting from his efforts to destroy my family. We could be done with each other here and now and we would both win."

Jai Long could not help the expression of need and want that crossed his face at the Undelords words. Normally the scripted bandages wrapped around his head would serve to disguise such things, but against the eyes of the Arelius they proved worthless.

"Oh ho, you like this plan? Yes, I rather thought you might. But then, consider an alternative. I give you the spear, and bind you to my service for the duration of one year. Rather than a child swingly wildly in the dark you will become my tool, and I will use you like a scalpel to excise the rot of the Jai. You will be granted recompense for your actions on my behalf. Traditionally, this would be advancement resources and scales, but given the nature of this weapon... perhaps you would wish to take payment in the form of treatment for your sister instead?"

Jai Long's eyes bulged out of his head, and he could not stop himself from bursting out in gratitude, prostrating himself on the floor at the feet of the Arelius.

"The Underlord is too kind! This Jai Long swears to your ser—"

"Ah, ah ah" Eithan interrupted. "Let's not be hasty, we haven't yet discussed the last of our options."

Jai Long slammed his head back to the floor, sweat beading at the base of his neck, and cursed himself for his foolish interruption.

"Now, treatment for your sister is all well and good. But that's for her, even the revenge is for her to an extent. What about you, Jai Long? What do you desire?"

Jai Long felt the tip of the Ancestors Spear impose itself between his forehead and the stone floor of the Transcendent Ruins, as the Underlord leveraged his head upwards to look him in the eyes. He flinched as the blade twisted, and the strips of cloth with which he hid from the world fell loose, exposing his deformity.

"Ah yes... an unfortunate consequence of a desperate decision. You could continue to advance of course, at later stages you can exert some level of control over your goldsign, you could attempt to minimize it if you desired. Of course, you would never truly be free of it that way."

Jai Long froze what little movement remained in his body, going completely still at the implied 'or'.

Eithan Arelius grinned at him as if he could read his thoughts.

"Yes, or. There are indeed ways to revert a goldsign. Painful, horrible awful ways, but it can be done. Of course, pain is not the only reason few choose to go that route. For one, it is horrendously expensive, and for another... Quick question—how attached are you to your advancement?"

The Underlord didn't bother waiting for an answer.

"Jai Long, if you let me, I will unravel your soul. I will tear you to shreds and extract every last piece of the monster that dared harm your sister. I will break you and destroy you, and then... if you will let me, I will build you up again from a new foundation."

Jai Long was silent as he considered the offer. For years he had wanted for nothing more than what was now being promised to him. A chance to take it all back and resume life the way it should have been. A way to go back to being the perfect scion of the Jai as he was supposed to be. To gain the influence that would see his sister treated the way she should be.

For years longer that desire had twisted and festered. He could not stand for his face to be seen, even by himself. It was the representation of everything that had gone wrong, everything he hated about the Jai, and by extension, himself.

"Now, of course this will render you useless to be in the short term. I view this option as something of a... long term investment. As such I would require your service for a period no less than 5 years, and if—in the end—you choose to return to the Jai, well... I wouldn't mind Daishou's replacement being someone I have a more friendly relationship with." he said with a smile.

"Now. I'd like one thing to be perfectly clear now Jai Long." The Underlord said softly, as he crouched down to look him in the eyes. The jovial mask had dropped to reveal an intense seriousness that made Jai Long shudder.

"I don't like you. You are a brute and a thug, and I have little patience for men of your temperament. Desperation, resentment and rage are powerful motivators for advancement but they come at a cost. If you so choose, I will be your crucible in the sacred arts, but you must temper your personal weaknesses yourself.

"I truly hope you will consider this avenue of self improvement. I would prefer to end this effort with more than a leashed dog to show for it, but that will up to you."

The Underlord stood and his grin returned as if it had never left. He turned to leave the room but paused at the door.

"Oh yes, one last thing. I know the location of the lost ancestral city of the Jai should you wish to follow the Path of the Broken Star once your soul has been purged.

"Just something to consider. Anyway—seek me out once you have made your decision. Goodbye."

And then Jai Long was alone.
