Akura Fury and Emotional Distance
Uhhhh this is not meant to be a comprehensive post, but I was just idly reading Uncrowned for a few minutes and remembered that Akura Fury is yet another imperfect member of the Akura family.
In chapter 6 of Uncrowned, Fury expresses a lot of interest in Lindon’s duels/fights to prove his strength and soothe the worries that he is unqualified to compete in the Uncrowned King tournament. After Lindon wins all of those, Fury leaves Grace and Pride (close family members) to duel between themselves for a seat — and decides to just leave instead of dignifying them by spectating them. Charity stays to judge the match, and it was for Fury’s pick for the tournament.
He also shows this same kind of attitude towards his daughter Charity; in Wintersteel, he forgets to tell her about the Monarch competing in the tournament (a very big deal, especially since Charity is supposed to be second in political power to Fury, so she should have been informed).
This kind of “I don’t care about this” attitude isn’t always bad; when Mercy was publicly humiliated (by Malice, the Akura Monarch and Mercy’s mother) for losing her match, Fury declined to watch when that was a very bold move, politically. No one lightly disobeys the Monarch.
I wasn’t really going anywhere in particular for this, but I think it’s interesting. Fury is pretty good, but he does cause some collateral emotional damage. I think he had this kind of attitude when raising Charity, given her own issues with empathy (see: her sending some people to lethally fight against Lindon, eventually ending in one death, and not expressing any misgivings about this course of action. This was in recompense for Lindon killing her nephew, which he did not know at the time (he didn’t know that the guy he killed was Charity’s nephew, and he also did not know she was the one who sent people after him until one had already died)).

So what Paths do you think the Artemis Fowl characters would use if they lived in Cradle?
Butler would use a Path of Force Madra, maybe Path Of The Cloud Hammer? Path Of The Steel Guardian would do nicely, the defensive nature would appeal I think.
Holly would either be on a Path of Life Madra (maybe Riyusi Meira’s Path) or a Sword Path, possibly Path Of The Broken Star, or maybe Path If Silver Grace
Opal Koboi would probably go for a Path Of Twin Stars, with a dragon path in one Core (she’d be a perfect fit fir the Dragon Icon) and possibly a Shadow Path in the other, or maybe the Path Of Heaven’s Glory (the name would appeal to her ego if nothing else). Path Of The Song Of Falling Ash might be her style as well.
Mulch would obviously be a Earth Path, although I couldn’t tell you which one. Path Of The Rolling Earth perhaps?
Juliet would absolutely use a Force Path as well, specialising in Body Enforcement Techniques Akura Pride style.
Artemis is the trickiest one, but the Path Of The White Fox might suit him, as would the Path Of The Hollow King (either variant). There’s also a bit of me that wants to cheat and make him the unamed son of Naru Jing and Naru Cassias Arelius, who could therefore practice both the Path Of The Grasping Sky and Path Of Silver Grace on the Path Of Twin Stars*, but that’s an AU for another time
*This is a headcannon that I made up because I though it was cool

Australia Future-Soul Artist NGAIIRE Releases '3' Album (Dot Dash Recs)
Sydney-based, Papau New Guinea-born future-soul artist NGAIIRE shares her emotionally charged new album, '3', on Friday, 27th August via Majestic Casual. NGAIIRE has released two previous albums; neo-soul 'Lamentations' and pop-soul 'Blastoma'. Her third album began as an experiment in 2017 to go back to her home country with a small creative team in the hopes of extracting unique visual aspects of PNG culture to present in a contemporary context and alongside music that would be composed throughout and after the research period. The result is '3', a perfectly acceptable odd number, just like her - a bit odd. A bit queer. A bit brought up in church. Thinks she’s a bit cool but really just a big nerd. As slow and breezy as a New Islander but also as stubborn and passionate as a Highlander. A bit Australian but also a bit Kiwi. A bit short and a bit not the right kind of black to be commercial enough. A bit full of joy but also a bit angry. A bit privileged but also a but disadvantaged. A bit obsessed with death, sex, life, spirits, fashion, expensive cocktails, art, board games, rice and bully beef, sitting on the beach all day and living beyond her means. And definitely not your normal cup of tea out of a dainty little English teacup. As much as she's tried to pour herself into that teacup over the years, she's accepted that she's really better suited to a brilliantly well charcoaled aluminum kettle full of black tea leaves cooked on a very lived in fire built upon the soil that smells like her mother, her Aine, her Pupu and and those that came before who said "reach for the stars but always come back to us". Speaking on the focus single 'Moonshine', NGAIIRE explains: “I wrote this while I was high on Opioids. I just desperately wanted to feel like a whole human again. Most days I’d be writhing in pain on the floor screaming, or throwing whatever I could find near me at the walls because I was just so frustrated at how I felt. The neighbours must have worried. The painkillers helped sometimes but mostly never even touched the sides as my body had grown immune to the drugs.  As a result I was mostly just in a constant state of stupor on top of the excruciating pain. I was popping about 8 top shelf opioids a day just to take the edge off but I was feeling increasingly out of control of my life, my career, my pregnancy and the life of my baby. I was in and out of hospital with no answers, hanging on the words of the revolving door of doctors that were sent to my bedside. The more questions went unanswered the more I felt trapped and so far away from what I knew of as my normal life. I’d watch the sun go down and then the moon would illuminate how delicate my mental capacity had become.  All I wanted was to sit at my favourite bar and throw a few very stiff drinks back. Until the bar shut. With my lover who I’d just married. Just like the old days. Ironically I wanted to be reckless and out of control on my terms so as to not feel out of control by something that seemed to own me. I just wanted that moonshine.” Having built a musical identity that effortlessly crosses genre and art form, her renowned vocals, tight beats and big pop sounds have seen NGAIIRE acquire countless accolades, as well as gracing the stages of Glastonbury through to Splendour In The Grass, and touring alongside artists from Sufjan Stevens to Flume to Alicia Keys and John Legend. Tracklist: 1. 3 2. Shiver (prod. Jack Grace & Ngaiire) 3. Shoestring 4. Closer 5. Takeover 6. Moonshine 7. Akura 8. Him 9. Boom 10. Thumpthumothumpthump! The sound of small running feet filled the house before suddenly a bug grinning face was seen, skidding into the room, that long blue hair in evidence as the rowdy girl suddenly LEAPT toward Sakura! “Mom!” Came that excited shout before the woman was tackled and hugged. “Ma, I caught a frog, come see!” She piped up excitedly, tossing her head to keep those spiky blue bangs out of her eyes. She looked so much like her father sometimes, especially with that grin.

「サクラ」
Sakura had been watching her and her brother through the kitchen window, ever vigilant to make sure the two were keeping out of trouble, and doing the dishes seemed like the perfect excuse to keep watch over them. It had come as quite the shock when she learned that she would be having his children, but ultimately, she felt blessed to have the opportunity. She loved them so much, protecting them fiercely like a lioness from those that would have used them since no one knew what would happen if a Soul Reaper and an Arrancar reproduced. She had been so frightened back then, but the fear had been completely replaced with such joy the pink reaper was sure she would burst.
She smiled and began drying off her hands when she heard the door open and the pitter patter of small feet charging through the house. A smile gracing her lovely features moments before her daughter skid into the room and leaped into her arms. The happy mother gave her daughter a quick squeeze before returning her daughter’s excitement with her own.
“Really? Show me!” she replied, already carrying her daughter back the way she came. “You didn’t bring it inside, did you?” The first time they had brought her such gifts, Sakura had explained that those animals belonged outside, not in the house. They could still catch them, just as long as they remained outside.

Please don’t read if you didn’t go through Guild wars 2 Path of Fire, contains major spoilers for an episode
An alternative ending to Akura’s story that is not canon but it was a thing I thought of when walking home one day and when I wrote it, it actually came out quite well
CONTAINS SWEAR WORDS AND CHOOPED OFF LIMBS & DEATH
(Chaton is my friend’s character, a human female mesmer, was here, here and here with Isil )
A scream rang from above, and Akura lifted his head. That was a woman’s scream, he was sure. Chaton? Flashed through Akura’s mind and panic overtook him. He let the reins hit the dusty ground as he sprinted up the rocks to get to the top. It couldn’t have been Chaton. It couldn’t have.
The hot, arid air burnt Akura’s lungs as he lunged over fissures and climbed the eroded rock to get up. A bad, bad feeling tightened his chest as he finally stepped on the smooth rock with patches of grey grass here and there. Shock, terror and panic spread through him.
           It was Balthazar.
Balthazar was hanging over Chaton as she tried to crawl away with a terrible wound in her side, his sword, if that monster of a blade could be called that, dripping and sizzling with her blood. There was a fire force field around them.
           Akura had to get inside.
“Balthazar!” He shouted, trying to get the fallen god’s attention before he finished what he started. The giant turned to him, a wicked smile on his face and cruelty in his eyes struck fear into whoever saw them. Akura didn’t flinch and instead ran closer, but was pushed away, burnt, by the barrier around them.
“Aaah, I see the Second Commander has decided to join us.” Balthazar’s sword swung around the figure, lusting for more blood. “I will take care of you in just a minute, if you allow me to get rid of the annoying bug in front of me first.” Why was he so damn nonchalant.
Akura pulled out his greatsword and swung against the barrier. The blade struck it and the magic threw him back. He barely kept on his feet. He swung again, pouring his own death magic into it, trying to chill and soothe the flames. The God didn’t seem to notice his doing, his full attention back to Chaton. The woman seemed barely conscious now, so close to the edge she could be easily pushed off. Akura hit the barrier again and again. He had to get inside, he had to.
His sword got stuck in the flames, and he could see frost spreading throughout it, cracking the force field into submission. The sylvari wasted no time and jumped inside, knowing full well he’ll be trapped if the barrier were to repair itself.
“Balthazar!!” Akura charged at Balthazar, engulfing himself in his shroud. The colour faded from the world, sound was muffled and Akura only saw the fiery inferno that was Balthazar’s life force. The fallen god turned swiftly and his sword met Akura’s scythe. Akura was pushed back.
If I get hit by that, I’m dead, Akura quickly evaded Balthazar’s strike that scorched the land. He’ll definitely die if he gets hit by that sword head on. He needed to buy time for their team to get there, he needed to buy time for Chaton.
In a short moment, six minion charged at Balthazar, their frames so small they were hard to hit with that gigantic sword, and they lunged at him, fangs bared and ready to bite in.
They were burnt to ash when they touched him. Akura cursed under his breath, his scythe at the ready. Balthazar charged, his floating weapon giving no indication where he’ll strike. The sylvari gathered life force around his arms, and he charged his scythe with magic.
Left! Akura barely avoided the blade and charge forward, burying the blade of his scythe in Balthazar’s side. The deathly chill was immediately scorched by the fire, and Akura tried the last thing he could think of.
He let the scythe go and jumped. His hands burnt when he grasped Balthazar’s leg, and he pumped as much magic as he could afford, trying to freeze it. Fuck, he’s scorching-, Akura couldn’t bear the pain no longer, letting go of his enemy and kicking him in the wounded knee in hopes it would crack.
Only a clank of armour when his foot hit it, and Akura was instead knocked back by Balthazar himself.
His vision darkened, the rough ground and rocks scratching him as he rolled on the ground, almost falling off the edge of the rock.
“Akura!” Chaton’s life force was so weak… Akura crawled back on his feet, watching Balthazar’s every move while trying to see the damage on his body, his shroud already trying to repair it.
Broken ribs, definitely. And his back and sides were all covered in deep scratches. Akura’s breath was shallower than he’d like, his arms trembled and he was still amazed his knees could take his weight.
Balthazar took out Akura’s scythe out of him, sneering at the weapon and throwing it away, the last drops of the shroud falling off it and it changed back into a greatsword. Akura was weaponless now. His staff was still being repaired. There had to be something-
The god charged. The sword hit the ground to Akura’s left and he tried to dodge it. Too late. The dust settled. Akura was on his knees in front of Balthazar, his eyes looking distant when he examined what was left of his left arm.
Nothing but a burnt stub. Not even a shred of pain, even when the shroud fell down, the feathers burning up in Balthazar’s flames. Akura felt nothing. His eyes left the stub and moved up to the smirking god of war.
…Trahearne… Akura closed his eyes. He was defeated. All he could do now was to accept it, with head held high and his back straight.
Chaton’s life force wasn’t gone, and there were more approaching. She’ll be safe. He hoped. He won’t be able to protect her no more. He will never meet her tiny fleshlings when they’ll be born. Or console Isil as he’ll definitely panic over the fact he’s a father.
Family. Akura knew he had a family, in the Grove. But they were distant. Chaton, Eyris, Yvrell, Aath, even Canach, Rytlock and the others… they were his family. The ones he wanted to protect. Trahearne was his family. He’ll have to leave them here, and join Trahearne in the afterlife.
Akura wondered if there’ll be something sweet to eat there. Maybe he could teach Trahearne how to bake.
“NO!” Chaton’s scream was the last thing he heard. He felt no pain. He was at peace.
I’ll see you in the Mists.
A bad feeling overcame Isil. Something really, really bad just happened. Without looking at anyone, speaking to anyone, he opened a portal and through the Mists, he teleported to their location. And the moment he realized what he was seeing, his heart broke.
Chaton, lying motionless on the burnt rock, facing away from him. And all that blood. He couldn’t see it, but he could see it. All that blood…
He came down on his knees and gently took Chaton’s head in his hands and turned it to him. He couldn't see her. She wasn’t there. She wasn’t there. Gone. The last threads of gold were leaving her body, disappearing into the air around her body.            “Chaton…” Isil’s voice wavered. “My Little Star… please… please, don’t.” He shook his head, bringing the love of his life closer to him, as if just his closeness could bring her back. It hurt. It felt like his chest was going to burst, his heart to be ripped in pieces. He wrapped her closer, uncaring for the blood that now covered them both. She was gone. She was gone, now. Isil’s throat tightened, as he kept whispering her name. He didn’t want to believe it. Her dead body, in his hands. She wasn’t moving.             “Please, don’t do this to me, love…” Isil ripped his blindfold off in the hopeless act that he might see her face, for the last time. But all that came was blinding light. He could feel tears falling down his cheeks. He couldn’t see her. His light was gone. Forever.
He traced his fingers around her face, recalling how she looked. Her smile, that wink she graced only him with, those eyes more vast and green than any field in Kryta.
Isil pressed their foreheads together. He lost her... again.

“ everything tastes like blood, now. “

Sakura was no longer a virgin to death’s fury, many times had her hands embedded themselves in someone’s last drops of life, her eyes had witnessed one too many dying breaths, her ears heard many last wishes. War had been carved in her heart like a mark that is left in a tree; she felt the pain of having its blade notch her soul.
All pain, however, must be dealt with somehow.
The gods, if there were any, graced humanity with the ability of being numb, and for a moment all that blood was no longer life or death, it was just red. However, its taste remained alive within the crevices of her mind; teeth gritted in an attempt to rid her mouth of its bitterness, but not even the sweetest treat could purify the profanity of Death’s kiss. ❝I know what you mean, but I think that’s the only taste war could ever have.❞

And and and, I can't help but imagine the Sky's Edge team figuring it out and being so annoying about it. Although that is also me being obsessed with their dynamic and feeling as if I was robbed of it.
Grace catches on first. She catches on because Pride has that gay look in his eyes and she knows. Also Grace has a crush on Lindon too, so she gets it. And she's like: Lindon, huh ;)? And he's like No >:(( I hate him. And Grace is just like You are coping so fucking hard buddy lmao. Sit down.
And then the others find out and they are unrelentless. Grace, Douji and Courage have Akura privileges to mess with Pride. Saeya is very outgoing and quickly catches on that Grace won't let Pride incinerate her if she's annoying so she teases him too. The Maten twins are protected by a Sage so like. They aren't scared of Mr son of a Monarch.
So yeah, they are constantly making fun of him when Lindon is not around (Lindon is entirely oblivious to everything btw) but also when they have those tea parties where they sit down as a group to have some quality time, they occasionally drop hints and Pride is glaring at them, and Kei is trying so fucking hard to not spurt her milk out through her nose, and Grace is giggling, meanwhile Lindon, blissfully unaware, is chatting to Saeya, who looks like she's trying not to piss herself as she tries to hold her laughter in.
Pride. Oh, Pride. The jokes pretty much write themselves.
Gay Pride. Fucking. Pride month. Pride parade.
Malice names all of her (worthwhile) children after their most defining trait. Pride was prideful but he was also so gay she couldn't not call him Pride.
I know he hated Lindon because he didn't think Lindon was good enough for Mercy but there's just something so enjoyable in going: Nah, he's just fucking gay. Lindon was his gay awakening and he's super pissed about it.
He's this ~16 yo kid right. And this random loser from bumfuck nowhere arrives at Moongrave with his sister and they are weirdly close but he's also super fucking hot. Like, come on now. Tall, buff, stern, hair on the long side, and sharp eyes? Bro. Pride was so mad because this random lad was unfairly attractive, arrived with his sister, and was competing for the Akuras, all at once.
Pride was like. Mercy gets all of mom's attention. She can't take the boys' attention too come on now what the fuck.
Pride felt so much better when Lindon thanked him for the Diamond Veins. Why bro? Why you so pleased? Hm? Maybe its because it was your crush thanking you???? Daaaamn.
Also him being so hissy to cope. Like. "I hate him so much >:((". Sure buddy. Mhm.

*quietly writes extra blooper that is just Lindon and Pride having a tense makeout session once Charity asks if Lindon wants to marry Grace*
Purple eyes watched him, and he couldn't read them. "And your team members? Have you grown to know them better?"
Lindon paused, silent momentarily. He had. One member in particular. "We often work separately, but I have spent time with each of them." Some more than others.
"Hmm." Charity raised an arm, and an owl of living madra came down to perch on it. She scratched it behind the head as she asked, "What do you think of Grace?"
Lindon wasn't sure what she meant. What about Grace? "She has performed admirably, both in and out of combat."
The Sage turned to him, "What if we allowed you to marry her?" Lindon winced. Of course, the Sage noticed. "What's wrong?" She asked, laying a hand on her owl.
"Apologies," Lindon said haltingly, "I, uh, I'm flattered but I have interest in... someone else." Charity continued examining him, petting her owl.
"Yerin?" She asked, as if she had been expecting it. Lindon's face burned. He couldn't find a comfortable position to sit in.
"Ah, no. I was think of... another Akura." Charity fixed her gaze onto him. The attention was uncomfortable.
"While I am glad you and Mercy found time to speak of her feelings for you-" Mercy's what?? "Mercy must stay focused on her sacred arts as the Akura heir, especially now with the tournament."
Lindon's face burned more, if that was even possible. "I meant Pride." Charity's movements halted on her owl. "We uh, have been working together at Sky's Edge and... formed a connection."
"...I see." Charity frowned slightly. "I will admit, that is not what I was expecting. Of course, this way there could be no heirs and no way to pass on your bloodline however Malice is extremely keen for you to join our family." Malice was what? Charity pinned him with her gaze again, "Could you not settle for another?"
"Ah, no. I'm afraid not. I don't want to marry just for status." Lindon was still puzzling over what Charity had meant by Malice being keen to join the family. Surely her family had better prospects. He said as much.
Charity inclined her head to the side, "Quite the opposite. Everyone can see you will be a powerful force in the future. You will be a strong ally. We just want your alliance to us to be your strongest." She pet her owl again. "After all, you are already an Arelius by name."
That was true. Lindon didn't really consider himself an Arelius (the only Arelius he had spent the least of considerable time with was Eithan and Cassias after all) but he had been adopted and the name attached was a clear allegiance.
"I believe the match will be satisfactory. I will send an owl to the Monarch. She is keen to have you marry an Akura so perhaps it will not be an issue." Lindon inclined his head and did not speak. He did not want to think of Akura Malice and her reaction to this. He was glad when Charity turned away, clearly closing the subject.
He was about to breathe a sigh of relief when-
[Does that mean your name will now be Akura Wei Shi Lindon Arelius? That's a bit long isn't it? Might have to shorten it. Hmm-]
Lindon did sigh. But it was not from relief.

Prideflame was fun while it lasted
Oh no it still is
There is the comedic potential of FOUR main branch Akuras liking Lindon (Malice, Grace, Mercy, Pride)
The comedic potential of Pride being PISSED about the crush
The comedic potential of him only thinking Mercy likes Lindon because he's projecting but it turns out they BOTH like Lindon
And also their interactions are kinda gay

Jaran: You don't know what real suffering is
Lindon who got mistreated and bullied all his life for being Unsouled, had his jaw broken, split his core in two which was utterly agonising, has been fighting for his life pretty much 24/7 since leaving the Valley, his training has been likened to abuse, always has at least one person that wants him dead, has been hunted by vengeful people, had to be poisoned and drink the blood of four sandvipers to advance to Iron, got stabbed through the arm with a poisoned spear then left for dead, had his arm cut off, got beaten up continuously at Moongrave by jealous Akura Underlords, has a path that literally kills practitioners and drives them insane (plus scorches the madra channels), has had friends die (I mean, he wasn't that close to Grace, Douji and Courage but he was still upset and pissed), had someone killed right in front of him as petty revenge: ... You know what. Fuck this. And fuck you too. I'm outta here.
