Hello, I’m the anon that apologized for implying that Keith was “spoiled”
I wanted to come back and talk to you because I wanted to discuss some points!
I made my Keith statements without really explaining what I meant and I wanted to try again.
I don’t want Lance to be the black paladin and I just need to state that now. However, I also didn’t want Keith to reside as the permanent black paladin.
I know that his color palate and clothing have black in them but shiro is also all black. In my opinion I would’ve preferred Keith to be the substitute black paladin.
Ryou (the clone) should’ve never been able to pilot the black lion because he’s just a copy of shiros face not him. Making Keith stay within the team and allura going to red (because I really don’t know how they thought allura in blue was a good idea, love her but what?)
(I want Keith to stay with the team and not go to the blades as I would prefer the paladins sticking together)
(Also because the plot line for the altean colony is ridiculous)
I would’ve loved to see ryou find out he’s a clone along with the paladins and not just kill him off. I think it would’ve also brought some realization into Keith about shiro and such.
The way I think of the paladins and their relationship to the lions is that the lions physically created the paladins.
The reason why it took 10,000 years is because earth doesn’t have quintestance, so the lions had to basically build their paladins from the ground up by creating generations of humans with it.
Because earth doesn’t have it, it takes a long time until there’s finally enough for the paladins now!
Which is why I don’t think Keith should continue to be the black paladin. Because he belongs with red just as Lance in blue, pidge in green, hunk in yellow, and shiro in black.
and because Shiro never gets to go back to being the black paladin his character gets reduced to cardboard.
which is the reasoning for my initial comments that I couldn’t describe clearly.
I didn’t mean to come off as a black paladin Lance supporter or that Lance was the best option. Because he isn’t.
There are things with lances character that I feel as though could’ve been worked so much better. (I saw a previous post of yours discuss lances having altean markings and your so correct, honestly they feel like fan service since the fandom goes nuts with altean Lance and honestly I can’t understand why)
I’m far more a shiro fan. In all honesty he has done a lot for me. I don’t like that he was just meant to be thrown away.
I mean the writers created an entirely new character for crying out loud!! Shiro didn’t exist in the other versions. Technically he is sven but sven was always the blue paladin.
Shiro has obvious PTSD and has a genetic disease that needs his arm forcefully removed from him. He fights so hard for his lion and his teammates.
My feelings on Keith are in fact very biased but it feels like a lot of Keith’s character completely erases all of shiros.
With ryou and the paladins finding out that shiro is in the black lion i would’ve loved to see them search desperately to find where the clones were made to see if they could bring Shiro back.
My thoughts are a little all over the place I apologize for that.
Hello again!
This is a bit awkward because I basically agree with almost everything here so there's not much for me to dissect haha.
If anyone's been reading my past, PAST, posts, you'll have probably seen my post as to why Lance never should have went to Red, and why it should have been Allura. I can understand why Allura is Blue and Lance is Red in the ORIGINAL series, but this is a rewrite where the characters are basically completely different.
Which also means that, no, I will not be using the original series to back-up my belief that Keith is a great Black Paladin.
Like I said, I basically agree with everything you wrote, except that I didn't personally care for Ryou. I felt sorry for him and was kinda shocked when they just used his body for Shiro's soul, but I didn't care about him.
I do think it would have been interesting to see Ryou be a little stinker and try to manipulate everyone, due to him being a sleeper agent. Like, in canon, when Ryou apologised to Keith, he says "I'm sorry I had to step in there" instead of "for stepping in there". He's still putting the blame on Keith. He says sorry without truly saying it, if you get what I mean.
Then, one day, he goes a little too far. Like, I dunno, he calls Lance useless or Hunk cowardly or something, and Keith immediately goes: wait. That's not right. Suddenly, Keith's a lot less willing to take Ryou's 'advice' to heart and things pile up until he realises Ryou is a clone.
I think that kind of story line is much more interesting that what we got. Of course, if you care about Ryou and are horrified at his death, there are others ways. Ryou slowly learning he's a clone and hating himself until the paladins make him realise that it's not his fault and he can choose to be his own person. Heck, he kind of already is.
Of course, another option is just to not kill Shiro off? Like, put him in a coma or reveal that Haggar yoinked him from Black with quintessence magic and he's been captive this whole time. Keith would still have to pilot Black but, because Shiro isn't a clone, when he gets back Black opens up immediately.
The thing is, Shiro and Keith's style of leadership is different. Very different, meaning that they're suited to lead different kinds of things, with varying efficiency. What I think would have been cool to see is them changing the roster (Shiro leads, Keith in Red/Keith leads, Allura in red) depending on the mission. Which can mean that, if you decide to keep season eight for some reason, Shiro or Keith can lead them into the final battle. Shiro leading them might make more sense.
I've heard a lot of people say that Shiro is boring and it's like– why do you think that? I kind of wanted to see more of his character arc, wanted to see Keith, Coran and Allura take care of him when he's too high strung. I wanted to see him be there, actually there, when Pidge saves Matt. I wanted to see him accept that he may have been hurt, but he is not broken.
I think that those people who think Shiro is boring just weren't watching the same show, or only remeber him from season 7-8 where he does basically nothing. Season 1-2 Shiro are great. He feels so human, scared of the world but pushing himself through for the sake of others and to not seem weak. He makes bad gun noises, immediately denies Coran trying to feed him like a baby with "no. Just– no.", displays some dark humour when he's alone with Keith and bleeding out. He's terrified of being seen as broken, because that's exactly what he thinks of himself.
So. Yeah.
Either make Ryou more interesting or don't kill Shiro off. It would still let Keith become his own Black Paladin, and it would let the group change members depending on the situation, which would make it less jarring if Allura was the one to pilot the Atlus, as was originally planned.
I can understand why you believe Keith's character erases Shiro's. Because, in all honesty, it kind of does. Of course, that is mostly DreamWorks' fault because they just can't give Shiro any sort of happiness? Like, Keith has also been hurt over and over again, but at least Keith has his mother.
Shiro was supposed to gain the ability to teleport. HE WAS REPLACED BY KOSMO - HE WAS REPLACED BY A DOG. Shiro didn't even get to end Sendak! Even if I adore Keith, I was so baffled when Keith made the finish blow, because that was Shiro's fight! Shiro has nobody to go home to, only returning to find that his ex-fiancé is dead, and it's just– I know that gay characters tend to suffer the most, but come on DreamWorks! Give him SOMETHING!
From my perspective, I've always noticed the difference between Keith and Shiro's leadership styles, and just in general. But DreamWorks is so allergic to giving any of them anything, so they wrote in the Broganes bond, tore it apart, then played a darts game to decide their traits after Shiro's death. It makes it especially worse when they decide to make Keith go through development off-screen, so he comes back when he's become more mature like Shiro, but it gets no explanation so it feels like he was just given more of Shiro's traits.
Alas, we get no explanation, so it is jarring. Which is another reason why making Ryou unable to pilot Black, or Shiro still being alive, would have been much better. Keith had a point about leaving, but Shiro, the real Shiro, never would have let him leave, and Keith wouldn't leave if Ryou couldn't pilot Black.
I would still make it so that Keith stayed with BoM just for the sake of meeting Krolia, but nothing else much.
So. Yeah.
I do agree with basically all of this, only I wouldn't have Keith be just a sub for Black. I think he and Shiro should have used it interchangeably, or at least provide an explanation for why the real Shiro, the one who bonded with Black the most, couldn't pilot her.
AND SCREW KOSMO– GIVE SHIRO HE TELEPORTATION BACK! GIVE HIM HIS RELEVANCE BACK!!
(Sorry if there's any mistakes, I just woke up haha)
(Also, Keith's colour scheme fits Black more than Shiro's did, mostly because of the accent colours that Keith had. Other than that, yeah. I agree.)

For my birthday I bring you: my art and comics PDFs for free on Kofi ✨
If you ask yourself "Why get the PDF " I have a couple of reasons:
I put a lot of effort into making some panels better, and it has fewer typos than the comic I posted.
With the way social media deletes things randomly, I really don’t want these comics to disappear into the void… If I could print them I would but meanwhile, this is the best way I have to preserve them and for you all to enjoy them.
Extra content! Since I develop ideas for YEARS, I like curating and organizing my ideas/drawings so the whole project feels cohesive, has some behind-the-scenes process, and looks rad af.
I don't like putting fanart behind a paywall but I'm not gonna lie, sometimes getting paid for a bit of hard work is rewarding and any tip means a lot to me.
ALSO......
and many more!!
#free zine#vld#good omens#hades supergiant#original art#shameless promotion#i feel like a prepper fro the ownfall of social media#but it is what it is and i rathe ryou all to have them#im dumb as a brick and diddnt add a link last night bc i was too tired to think

Yeesh
it’s really quite sick that “the journey” has us spend 22 minutes watching kuron struggle and fight so hard to live and get back to the team he loves so much his last memories are of them, only for him to be painfully brainwashed and just cognizant enough at the end to know he’s killed (or tried to kill) the people he loves most before he flat out dies, and not a single person he loved mourns him
#voltron critical#shiro#kuron#ryou#exactly how much did khr move things around is what i'm trying to ask#bc if he did it not knowing the ultimate fate of this character that's one thing#but for jds to make all those decisions all those nuances#knowing he was gonna do that#that's fucking disgusting lol#vld critical

The Original Voltron Adaptations Vs Their Original Japanese Counterparts.
Beast King Go-Lion:
Go-Lion/Voltron's backstory is that he got split due to his hubris after thinking he could take on the space goddess.
Voltron is a sentient being who lived long before time.
Voltron's title is king of the beasts.
All the pilots, save Fala/Allura, are from Earth.
All the boys are effectively in the same boat as VLD Shiro and have the gladiator backstory.
Earth is dead and gone, consumed by World War 3 by the start of the show.
Allura is canonically 16.
Raible/Coran's a strategist.
Altea/Arus's people were assumed to all be destroyed (especially the royal family), but they're all hiding out.
Allura's parents and siblings are executed by Daibazaal/Zarkon's hand while she was a year old baby. Zarkon didn't know she existed.
Hiroshi Suzuishi/Pidge is descended from Ninja.
There's so much blood and gore. People get cut in half vertically and horizontally. We get the privilege of watching people drop dead on screen with these horrifying faces and screams. Zarkon and Sincline/Lotor drink blood, too.
Honerva/Haggar has this bs called occult science.
Akira Kogane/Keith and Allura are so slowburn to the point it might not exist between them.
King Raimon/Alfor's ghost comes back from the grave to tell the paladins how much they suck.
Pidge threatens to eat the space mice twice.
Shirogane Takashi/Sven dies and and a later episode introduces his younger brother, Ryou/Sven, who was captured as a slave among others before Earth was fully destroyed.
Cannibalism
A tragic side character commits suicide at the end of an episode
Amue/Romelle's older brother is willingly turned into a robeast. Her older brother and father are both murdered by the Galra during a battle with Voltron.
Earth is completely destroyed and uninhabitable. The boys become honorary citizens of Arus.
A scene depicting Pidge's mother shows her seeing him off his mission. It's the last time he sees her.
Lotor has a dream about his mother where it suggests Zarkon had a hand in her disappearance. A flashback occurs showing us she was a good person and was killed for moral differences.
Coran's son, Saint/Garret, died as an infant while he and his mother were escaping from the castle. They are buried by a local group of people. The Galra dig up this grave to clone him.
Hys/Nanny is shot by Garret and dies.
A father-daughter bond is implied between Coran and Allura when the latter comforts the former after the Garret incident.
The Galran foot soldiers are living beings.
Romelle almost died via firing squad.
One notable robeast involved a snake like being who survived a civil massacre amongst her people and was introduced burying her deceased child. She adopts Pidge within the same episode. She dies at the end from blood loss.
Another notable side character was a sand person. Allura befriends this one by giving it her bracelet. The sand person is turned into a robeast. It's implied the sand person dies at the end, though it is unclear why.
During the final battle, Lotor sends out trapped prisoners in bubbles as bombs so Voltron can't move without killing them. Lotor also shoots them as missles. Haggar also shoots at the prisoners so Voltron can move and end Lotor's career.
Haggar's motive in helping Voltron lies in that Lotor killed Zarkon.
Haggar is Zarkon's mother.
Ryou dies fighting Lotor.
Honerva dies. Zarkon dies. Lotor dies.
Voltron: Defender of the Universe:
"We don't need clothes." Keith, 1984.
Arus is still alive, they just get attacked.
Voltron's backstory is that Haggar disguised herself as said space goddess and wrecked Voltron into five pieces.
Coran's a diplomat.
Voltron's title is King of the Robots
Galaxy Garrison exists here.
Allura grew up an only child and seldom saw her parents because they were busy.
Sven is severely injured and is, instead, sent to another planet to recuperate, but gets captured as a slave on planet Doom and thinks he's crazy.
Zarkon disrespects Haggar likes it's nobody's business.
King Alfor built Voltron.
Zarkon has a nephew
Pidge has a sister who's stated to be training as a pilot.
That same tragic side character is said to have returned to her home planet offscreen
Romelle's older brother is willingly turned into a robeast. He swims out to see in the middle of a battle with Voltron. Romelle's father in consequence goes mad and is implied to have died as a result.
Balto is ravaged by Lotor's forces. Pidge becomes an honourary citizen of Arus.
Pidge is an orphan and the scene of his mother depicts his adoption
Lotor has a dream about Allura instead. Allura's nightmare shows us she's afraid of Zarkon.
"Lotor, my beloved son, you're a nitwit." -Zarkon, 1984
Doom/Drule council.
Coran's son, Garret, and his wife are said to be alive in another dimension they were beamed to when the Galra attacked them. The clone is robotic like.
Allura when comforting Coran after the Garret incident, calls him a good man.
Lance is a country boy.
The Doom foot soldiers are robots.
Romelle was sentenced to be shot by a firing squad with stun guns.
Lotor and Haggar look for a new robeast victim among the Medusans. Audibly noting that they're all in a deep rest. That Medusan lady chooses to adopt Pidge. She also gets hurt, but it's implied she lives.
The episode about the sand people goes relatively the same way. However, the sand person is stated to be exhausted, but alive.
Sven is injured and sent back to planet Pollux to heal.
During the final battle, Lotor sends out robots in bubbles to trap Voltron. Keith can't move him because the bombs would blow up in their face. Lotor shoots them as missiles. Haggar shoots them down so Voltron can end Lotor's career.
Zarkon lives. Haggar lives. Lotor lives.

For anyone confused with my Voltron liveblogging/name-dropping, I'm going to predict what I might talk about and drop useful analogous terms:
Arus = Altea Drule = Galra Sincline = Lotor Sven Holgersson = Takashi Shirogane Ryou Shirogane = Takashi's brother in Beast King GoLion. Also Sven Holgersson. Don't worry about it. Darrell Stoker = Pidge Chip = Pidge's brother in non-VLD Voltron iterations
Different characters and places have different names depending on the iteration of Voltron. Arus is the same planet as Altea, yada yada. The iterations I'll be focusing the most on in this liveblog:
Beast King GoLion (BKG): The original Japanese mecha anime for Lion Force Voltron.
Armored Fleet Dairugger XV (AFDXV): The original Japanese mecha anime for Vehicle Force Voltron.
Defender of the Universe (DotU): The first Voltron TV show, the Americanized Frankenstein which combined BKG and AFDXV together. It had episodes that showcased both the teams of Lion Force Voltron (LF) and the teams of Vehicle Force Voltron (VV). Lion Force Voltron is the Voltron most people think about.
Voltron: Legendary Defender (VLD): The most recent iteration from Netflix that everyone screamed over in the 2010s.
Devil's Due comics (DD): A series of comics from, uh, Devil's Due that I'm reading right now. The omnibus of these comics was released 2008. I've read it before. There is a follow-up that was written in 2009. I own it and haven't read it. I am excited to read both.

Ship Color Codes (my preferences)
red/blue - characters are peers (rivals, opponents, friends) with a few drastic differences but many smaller yet significant similarities; the draw of this ship type is the tension/conflict between the two and how they overcome/lean into it; horizontal
Violetshipping/Puppyshipping - Seto Kaiba/Joey Wheeler (YGO)
Klance/Leith - Lance / Keith (VLD)
Drarry - Draco Malfoy / Harry Potter (Harry Potter)
JayDick/DickJay - Dick Grayson / Jason Todd (Batman, etc.) "
USUK - America / England (Hetalia)
LawLight - L / Light Yagami (Death Note)
SnowBaz - Simon Snow / Baz Pitch (Simon Snow)+
dark/light - characters are complements of each other, serving in paired but opposite roles; one is typically associated with feminine* (receiving) energy/watchfulness/subversive power, while the other is typically associated with masculine* (doing) energy/action/overt power; the draw of the ship is in how these characters fit together; vertical
Tendershipping - Ryou / Bakura (YGO)
Puzzleshipping - Yugi / Atem (YGO)
SuperBat(s) - Superman / Batman (DC Comics, etc.)
SnowBaz - Simon Snow / Baz Pitch (Simon Snow)+
Ameripan - America / Japan (Hetalia)
[11.4.24 edit] JayDick/DickJay - Dick Grayson / Jason Todd (Batman, etc.) "
* in the yin/yang sense, not the gender sense, and one isn't better or stronger than the other
+ i could make a case for SnowBaz to be either, especially as their relationship progresses
" I write them as red/blue, and they could fit either depending on what aspects of their dynamic you focus on

So, I finally had a chance to watch pacific rim. Promptly dreamt up a vld crossover.
The basics- Shiro and Keith are jaeger pilots based in either Japan or Hong Kong (dream unclear) and the higher ups (Coran and Alfor) have a plan to make a larger Jaeger but need five people to split the load.
Shiro’s twin (kuron/kuro/Ryou) is called in with his team (Lance and Hunk, because where in the rules does it say they have to start at the same characterization of vld season one) and the higher ups are like “perfect! You’re twins so you and your teams should drift perfectly” and Shiro and his Twin are like “uh, did you not get the memo on why we’re leading separate teams on opposite side of the pacific?”
Higher ups of the higher ups don’t care, they still have to test the darn thing under the watchful eyes of Allura and Pidge (who’s brother and dad are jaegar pilots)
And promptly things go sideways because despite being twins, Shiro and twin have trauma from when they did work together and drifting together freaks them both out. Keith meanwhile is surprised that he’s compatible with anyone other than Shiro
Bonding ensues after
Anyway, things go sideways while Shiro and Twin go to visit someone (???) and the base gets damaged, the only way out is for Pidge and Allura to join up.
They have some trouble, and get help from Matt and Dad, as well as the twins who would like their partners to stay alive and that’s it so far?
Thoughts? At least for Allura and Pidge
I think this sounds very interesting!
The way things take some time to figure out the ultimate configuration for the Voltron jaeger is really good (and that feels like a very Sanda move to just. ignore what Shiron and Kuro tell her about not being drift compatible. I know you said the higher ups were Alfor and Coran, but that's such a Sanda move she has to be involved somehow). The idea of Allura and Pidge joining in the middle of a disaster and discovering that they are drift compatible with the other three and getting out together is really great!
It sounds like it could be a very fun AU!!

I sent @nomadicism an ask about what they would change about Voltron if given the chance. Since I don't want to do a whole ass rewrite fic for this franchise since I'm more focused on my Twisted Wonderland one, here are some ideas I have for how I would change that series to write it better.
(Disclaimer: I'm not a giant robot fan. Ever since VLD burnt me, I just realized that macha genre isn't for me with some exceptions like Gurren Lagann, and I'm more of a fantasy girlie when it comes to genre fiction, especially when it comes to writing. Take this with a grain of salt.)
I'm writing a show like this now, I would make it an adult animated series like Hazbin Hotel or Blue Eye Samurai.
The series would be fantasy sci fi like Star Wars
The Galra never almost conquered the whole universe yet, just a fraction close to earth
Pidge would non-binary
The characters would be young adults in their early-mid 20s.
I would add in Pollux and leave the colony bs in the Shadow Realm where it belongs.
No shapeshifting Alteans
Plan A would be to have Shiro die in the first fight with Zarkon for Keith to take up the mantle of leader. Plan B would have him live, but live out the Pollux plotline that Ryou lived out in Go Lion.
Keith's arc would be about him becoming a strong leader in his own right.
There will be a point where something blasts Keith, which brings out his Galra traits and that causes tension in the group for awhile.
Hunk would be merged with Pidge as a character to prevent the cast from getting bloated like how it did in the show.
In addition to the previous point, this would mean that Allura would be a paladin earlier and the robot would go out for the count until they find another paladin to form it.
Lotor would be like a mixture of Loki, Zuko, and Lelouch. Someone who cares deeply about those dear to him and has a conscience, but at the same time, he's cunning, christmastic and uses mind games to get what he wants.
Lotor redemption arc
Lotor becomes a paladin near the end of his character arc.
Keith and Lotor have an actual rivalry thanks to them both being half Galra
Keith never meets his mother, and sees the paladins as found family
Allura wouldn't be perfect at everything.
Allura would have a complete mental breakdown once Coran tells her the truth.
None of the group will die in the end. Instead they will sacrifice the lions, which singles that they're no longer needed.
As for romance, I'd make Pidge/Lance, and Allura/Lotor or Allura/Keith endgame depending on where the story goes.

For your Voltron AU, so you plan on pulling more stuff from other versions of Voltron/GoLion/Dairugger XV? Such as Allura’s/Fala’s nanny (named Lady Hys in GoLion, and I think she could be a good a foil to Coran, being the more stern and practical of the two), or Shiro having a twin brother named Ryou?
Thank you for the ask!
And great question! For the most part, I’m not quite sure yet, mainly because I haven’t watched the other Voltron series—but now I feel like I should to get more inspiration.
For my VLD/Dragon Prince AU, things are pretty set as far as worldbuilding. I’m just waiting for the next season to come out because I don’t want to start writing out major story beats when I have a gut feeling that the upcoming season is going to make me change a few things.
For my rewrite, I’ll definitely watch some of the other series—Allura’s nanny seems like a very interesting character to have at least for lore purposes, and it could help me flesh out the Altean side of things a lot more.
I’ll definitely be looking more into the other Voltron series more either way, since it’ll probably provide more ideas for me. So thank you for the idea!!
#renblogs#ask box#answered!#I hadn’t thought about using anything from previous series but now I might#even if it’s just for an ‘episode’ or two#it’ll at the very least give me a fresh look at things I may be overlooking#ty for the ask!

I’ve been rereading Parallel by Proxy recently (just got an ao3 account and immediately made it the first series I bookmarked), and it occurred to me that we never see the actual moment the team and Ryou find out he’s a clone— we get a description of it when Shiro is waking up from the coma, but it starts in media res after that. Im curious how you imagined the moment of the reveal and the immediate aftermath (If you remember, I know Mirror Image is like seven or eight years old now? man that’s crazy! Which by the way, it’s so weird— in an GREAT way— to reread Mirror Image and see Ryou act like Shiro. It’s almost uncanny compared to how he comes into his own later on; it’s really interesting) Also, is there like an “add to playlist” sorta option for works? I’d like to organize all my old VLD gen favorites now that I finally (after like seven years lol) have an account!
Hey anon! Welcome to AO3 proper! Being able to bookmark things is amazing.
So I never actually wrote that "actual moment of discovery that this is in fact a clone of Shiro" moment because back when I actually was writing Parallel by Proxy, S4 had just come out. That meant 2 seasons already where fans suspected the returned Shiro was a clone, but we didn't have official confirmation yet. Everyone on the Kuron train had already written that scene, and I didn't really want to rehash it when I wanted to get into the actual horror elements of the story (i.e. Shiro being trapped in his own head and then the inverse side from the clone perspective).
At the time I wrote Mirror Image, there had also been no plans to turn it into a whole series with Ryou. Mirror Image was originally written for a Halloween-themed PlatonicVLDWeek event, so at the time I was just having fun writing spooky horror stories. The original crux of Mirror Image was supposed to be a mental horror story of a character thinking they're fine but getting messages to wake up. Ryou wasn't originally even supposed to be in it, but the clone theory worked well with the idea of Shiro constantly seeing himself telling himself to wake up, so Shiro's subconscious warnings to himself were upgraded to an actual other person trying to pull him out of the situation. Because of that, HOW Ryou got there wasn't really as important to the story as WHAT he was doing there, and I never felt the need to get into it.
After that when I decided to write more stories with Ryou and turn it into a series, he'd already been established as part of the team, so I just rolled with it from there.
How would it have actually gone? More or less how it's described as an afterthought, but with a lot of tension. "Shiro" would have realized after they lived through the Naxzela debacle that Haggar had arranged for them to be there somehow. He'd look into their data and their intelligence and eventually realize the changes and the nudges always came from him, but he didn't remember doing it. He'd start putting two and two together with some other facts that never lined up (why did Black teleport him into Galra hands? Why did he wake up on a table with too-long hair and a beard when he'd only been gone for a couple months? Why did he see another him on a table in his escape? What was the deal with that whole control blip with Black? Why did he always have those awful headaches? etc etc). Once he began to suspect, he'd bring it to the team honestly, because even if he's starting to realize he's behind all of this, he still cares for them, and he's horrified at the thought that he's the reason everyone could have died. The team does more in-depth digging once they know where to look, and...well. Shiro's not real.
There's probably a lot of mixed emotions at that point. They definitely would not have trusted "Shiro" at first, but he'd have been pretty compliant with their demands because he'd feel guilty and is in the middle of having an existential crisis about not being "real." They need him and his ability to lead and pilot though, so they eventually deal with any mental conditioning or control left in his head and grudgingly work with him to find Shiro and keep Voltron running. Even in Mirror Image, you can see everyone is kind of awkward with him at first, and he realizes he's more or less filling in for the real thing. He's helping them look for Shiro out of guilt and obligation, because he stole this person's life.
As for your other AO3-related question, I'm not sure what you mean about a playlist. But you can tag bookmarks, add comments or notes for yourself and others, and either leave them public or make them private. That would let you organize them on your end. I recommend against making "collections" as this can take control away from the writer (for this reason I never agree to let my works be put into collections when people ask).
Happy reading anon!

Hello, Nonny!
Thank you so much!!! This is incredibly sweet of you, and I'm honored to know that people are still enjoying my fics even all these years later, and when it's been... a whiiile since the last one.
There IS more with Ryou, btw, it's just been slow going. I'll leave it at that.
Thank you for letting me know! It's really difficult to see how fics are doing after the face, when it's just a slow climb of hit numbers, so it means the world when someone lets me know they're still thinking of my lil stories.
Thank you again!

so i'm torn between ryou being rescued by the paladins or ryou getting rescued by romelle but then I thought... what if both. like, the first time he was captured by galra, he was rescued by romelle. he stayed on pollux for a bit, earned a place for himself but left to continue his quest for answers. then he got captured again, maybe on purpose, and was then rescued by the paladins.
I can completely and utterly guarantee you that by capture attempt number two Ryou would be So Done with This Shit. Let’s strip it down to basic though. Ryou has, for quite some time now, been pretty much at the top of his field. You make it up, he can build it. You ask for something, he can invent it. He’s really been in a position of leadership (albeit an entirely different version from Taka’s) and of being the one that’s ahead of everyone else and giving them hands up to catch up.
And then, suddenly, he’s at the very bottom of that pile, so far behind in knowledge and ability that he might as well be a first grader learning how to work simple addition all over again. He does not have a fancy lion, he does not have an Official Role, he does, honestly, not have much point or usefulness when he finds himself in space. This is a man that’s built himself from the ground up to be the one that can provide and create what everyone else needs and its been his goal as well as a huge purpose of his for years now. And it’s gone. Hell, he doesn’t even know which knobs to turn on things anymore or where the hell the nearest equivalent to a screwdriver is and if anything out here even uses screws. Yes, Hunk is shown pretty much understanding everything, including how to hotwire a drilling elevator or fix a junked up alien vessel, right off the bat without even scratching his head but lets be realistic here. In a civilization so advanced they’ve made a flying lion that can literally phase itself through solid objects without any harm to the pilot inside and I’m supposed to believe they’re still be using technology on a level that a human whose highest accomplishment isn’t even light speed yet could completely take apart and know exactly what they were doing right off the bat? Really? Look we all suspend a lot of disbelief for this show and that’s part of the fun but if you really look at the basics of it - Pidge can, quickly and with very little trouble, immediately crack code in an alien computer system that’s had longer to advance itself than the entire human race has had to evolve. Really? She can, and I’m still having a hard time swallowing this one, hijack Shiro’s arm with - a wifi signal? and shut it down when not a single other Galra grunt or scientist or soldier or Haggar have? Don’t get me wrong. In all honest, I love Hunk muttering to himself and hotwiring the elevator at the same time. It’s one of my all time favorite scenes from season one actually because it is so perfect in timing and delivery and tension and laughter and Hunkness but - the thing that challenges my suspension of disbelief most is how casual alien tech is treated and how easy it is to crack even by two beings I’m perfectly willing to acknowledge as complete geniuses. I realize, as writers, there’s a limited amount of time the VLD script crew have to pack all kind of information into things and they really do need to hit the ground running with the characters. Pidge and Hunk both need to have their skills shine just as bright as anyone elses and it would take a lot of time and slow the story way down if they were put on a learning curve. In fact, a hell of a lot of the situations that moved things along in the first couple of episodes (Pidge hijacking Rover, Hunk hijacking the lift) wouldn’t have happened at all if we had to stop and have them really wrestle with how utterly alien and outside of their usual pattern of programing and problem solving everything is. But dang. Are we going to upload a virus to the alien ship with a lap top next?
