the Shiroganes dealing with their abandonment issues and other mental problems every time they can i fear
QUICK life updates :
•School started, it’s been 2 days and I’m already dying (the burn out is burning BRIGHT)
• I decided to do ugly sketches bc I don’t have the same time I had during summer and it will be faster and less heavy for me (I do need to find balance in my hobbies so I don’t harm myself more) so I’m sorry the quality will decrease but I’ll still post silly things’ it will just also look silly ig ToT
•It’s giving me time to finish the first chapter of my fic. I was rewatching Vld the other day and even tho I knew the writing and the narration were weak, I got surprised by how terrible it really was in the first episode 💀 I mean I get why but at the same time… why ?
•You’d probably notice by now that I’m very fond of siblings and familial dynamics, that’s why I draw more of the McClain, the Shirogane or the Holt, to expand their families lore and balance the family they were born into with the family they found along the way
•My point is, I’m sorry there’s not more Klance for now, I love them so much, but I have to build their foundations (their families so other characters) to know how would Klance be treated the best 🤭
Thank you for following my work, have a good scholar year and take care 🩷

just making dinner like I do every night when the thought of 'vld zombie apocalypse AU' hit me like a truck and I cannot stop thinking about it.
The Kerberos crew loses contact with ground control shortly after touching down on Kerberos- or contact with anyone, for that matter. Sam checks out all of their communications equipment, but it's working fine. That's... concerning. They collect their samples. Wait for a signal from home.
It never comes.
They return home anyways. They don't have the supplies to stay out here longer than scheduled. All the way home, they keep trying to make contact, hoping to reach someone, anyone. It's not until they're days away from Earth that a familiar voice breaks over their coms- it's Adam.
He cryptically tells them that Earth is facing an emergency situation now, but that they'll get them on the ground. Just give them an ETA. Shiro gives him his best estimate, and he swears he hears Adam mutter something about 'not enough time' under his breath, but they still make arrangements to land the shuttle according to what they practiced.
Right away, they know something is wrong. Adam's manning the control room at the Garrison, along with some people that Shiro's never even seen before. No one is in uniform.
And there are people on the ground.
Adam just gives them a grim look. Those aren't people anymore. Land.
And whatever they do, do not leave the shuttle until they're given the greenlight.
They follow instructions. Adam and a small crew are there, ready to hurriedly escort them into an AW-Cruiser. That's when they get their first real look at the shambling hordes on the grounds of the Garrison- ones that are slowly moving towards them- at least, they are, until a familiar red and white hoverbike draws their attention away from them all.
Shiro would know that hoverbike anywhere.
But they don't get a chance to question any of it. They're hurried into the AW Cruiser and off before they can fully process what's going on. Matt's the one who breaks the question, and Adam grimly confirms it.
The Earth has been overrun by zombies.
The Garrison fell in the first few weeks. Since then, the survivors have been living in the tunnels leftover from WW3. But they kept an ear to the sky, waiting for the inevitable return of the Kerberos mission, knowing they'd need the assistance from the control tower to land- and then an immediate extraction to safety.
Matt and Sam ask about Pidge and Colleen. Adam tells them they're safe.
Shiro asks about Keith. Adam gives him a long look, before he switches on the radio, passing it to Shiro. Keith's voice comes over it, and Shiro exhales in relief. They exchange a few words, before they have to cut the conversation short since they'll be heading underground.
It's only once they get to safety that they find out Keith won't be joining them there. That he's not allowed in without special clearance.
That Keith's alive, but he's not safe.
He's infected.
He's just the only one that kept their mind.

I needed more centaur stuff. And when @breadstickcat and I were talking, I first mused about Shiro being a human and Adam being the centaur. She got excited about the potential of Gypsy Vanner Shiro and after showing one to me, I had to go with that! So! I swapped them! Because Shiro, with long hair, too, deserves to be a fabulous centaur! And, once again, she helped with figuring some colouring, especially for his hooves! Thank you!

remember that one time I made an angsty fix-it comic about a way for Adam to canonically fit into the events of vld’s s1 premise?? this one particularly being a flashback as to why we didn’t see Adam in the beginning and something that probably gets revealed to the whole castle of lions crew after they find Adam leading part of the galra resistance efforts????
no?? oh yeah I never finished it or posted anything about it lmao whoops

High school AU a mutual pinning high school love story
Between their friendship and their rivalry, they started to develop a crush on each other... And Lance is eager to tell Keith his feelings
Lance decides that he is going to confess by the end of the day...but the entire plan ends up being a mess from the first period. He is terribly nervous and Keith is actively trying to avoid a confession he already knows it is happening because he doesn't want the balance he has with Lance to change. i'm thinking about my voltron au from 2020 and tbh it's still cool so. here's an explanation
it takes place on a future earth that has more intergalactic contacts than the vld earth. it's sorta normal to see aliens in the big cities. this earth is also more technologically advanced and not as pathetic as the vld earth. it's one of the few planets left that haven't been taken over by the galra, mostly because of their convenient placement in the universe.
most of the characters backstory is the same. they still go to the garrison, there still is a klance "rivalry", shiro and matt still get kidnapped, keith still drops out to live in the desert, etc etc. except a few weeks before the vld canon begins, earth gets taken over by the galra. lance, pidge and hunk flee and go live in a basement somewhere. they are trying to rebel by causing trouble for the galra, but there isn't much they can do because they're just three teenagers. meanwhile keith is hiding in the blue lion cave with adam, who is an actual character in this au!
the gang comes together to save shiro from the galra, who are transporting him to earth. the garrison trio and keith work together to safe him. they bring him to the blue lion cave, where lance makes a connection with the lion. this is all very cool except the galra notice it and storm towards them. luckily, allura notices it too with her altean magic powers. in this au, altea was destroyed way more recently, a few years after allura's birth. she and coran were two of the few alteans who managed to flee. they hid out on multiple planets that hadn't been colonised or destroyed yet, most recently earth. so yea. allura senses the blue lion's magic and conveniently swoops in to safe them. they all get into the blue lion and fly away, except adam who got captured while trying to help an injured shiro get into the lion (i'm sorry they will safe him soon!!!).
some other things:
keith is aware he's half galra and actually has some alien traits in this. he has faint face markings, pointy ears, and fangs. he never met his mom though, and idk if he ever will.
lance has curly hair, brown eyes and freckles because i say so
pidge is canonically nonbinary!!
klance and romellura happen :)
i think alteans have a life span more similarly to humans in this. i've also been thinking about humans having evolved from alteans or the other way around, because they look so similar
allura can pilot all of the lions because her magic is connected to them. though she doesn't have a special connection with any individual lion like the paladins do and she can't use some of the power-ups
the galra war has only been going on for about 50-100 years and altea has been destroyed 15 years ago. i've always thought that 10.000 years was a bit extra
the blade of marmora aren't a thing (because they're stupid) but instead there's a rebel organization that has all sorts of different aliens working for it, including galra. krolia was part of it when she met keith's dad, and matt is part of it when pidge finds him.
earth is more united in this. different countries still exist in some capacity, but they're more like states or provinces. i added this only because it's convenient for interactions with aliens
the aesthetic of this au is very inspired by the leakira thing of 2018, except i've kept their canon names and nationalities
Anyways. they should give me control over a voltron reboot

My Carrd Commission Info Ko-Fi
For Shadowfreak's VLD OC AU, Darren as Adam finally has some sorta reference art *blows party horn* And he LIVES in this world, no sacrificial death for dumb messages. He lives and has a happy life and gets to adopt a cat with his husband Quickly colored some lines I made when trying to figure out how to fuse Adam and Darren's hair. Shadowfreak had drawn some art showing one or two angles before I made this, but wanted to have more I love Adam's hair, but because of how wild it is compared to the Paladins, figuring out the balance took quite a bit and I'm still not 100% satisfied, but I don't think I ever will be Darren is Adam in this AU as Qrow (his partner and/or husband in all universes) is Shiro! If you wanna see them in their regular forms -- or read up on the VLD AU stuff -- can visit her Toyhouse folder

I see you have TWO curling AUs...what is the one that is *just* curling about? (Though I'm curious about the vld curling au too lololol)
Look, one of these days I will write a curling AU. I know one sport and this is it.
The first one just titled curling AU is a supernatural one. I think it was one I intended to do for the deancasjimmy big bang but then my grandma’s cancer relapsed and I went through a terrible writing time and I never got past outlining it. It was set in small town Saskatchewan where Dean, Sam, and honestly I can’t remember who else were a team that played competitively in the province. Castiel and Jimmy move into a farmhouse just outside of town and become a competative rink. Cas and Dean had an explosively bad relationship in the beginning but they eventually come around. The house that Cas and Jimmy stay at is heavily based off of my grandparents old farmhouse and honestly reading through this has just filled me with so many warm memories.
Castiel pulls into the gravel drive in front of his new house. Well, technically it is still Gadreel’s house but him and Jimmy will be renting it from him long term. There’s a beat up red Ford truck parked in front of the garage so Castiel parks his ranger next to it. He grabs the grocery bag from the passenger seat then heads to the front door of the farmhouse.
The house is painted a soft yellow and the shutters a deep brown. Though it’s probably been well over a decade since it was last painted because you can see the paint peeling in places. Next summer they’re definitely going to have to repaint. He climbs the steps, careful not to step on any of the farm cats congregating near the door and lets himself into the porch. It’s cluttered with various tools and articles of clothing plus an old freezer that hums quietly. After verifying that none of the cats have followed him in he opens the door to the house.
Straight ahead is a steep set of stairs leading to the basement, to the right is the hallway where the bedrooms and bathroom are and to the left is a doorway that leads to the kitchen. There are soft voices to the left so Castiel neatly hangs his jacket in the closet then heads that way.
As for the voltron curling AU I was also going to set it in Saskatchewan lol. Write what you know I guess. Shiro was a Brier champion on the fast track to go to the Olympics but then a semi crossed the line when he was driving home one night on the highway and he lost his arm. He tried to go to university after and make a career in something else but nothing ever really felt right. He decided to move back to his hometown to do some soul searching. He reconnects with Keith and agrees to coach his curling team and find love and maybe happiness again in Keith.
Takashi Shirogane had it all. Or so he thought. There he was driving home, youngest champion of the Brier since 1981, a shot at the Olympics in his sight. Sure curling wasn’t the most prestigious sport but Shiro was good at what he did. Or he had been until the semi crossed the line and hit him head on.
People always told him he was lucky. Lucky the semi hit him so close to the city. Lucky that considering all of his injuries he only lost his arm. Lucky that he didn’t get Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome like his father. Lucky that he got to spend so much time with his mother after she was diagnosed with brain cancer.
Shiro sure didn’t feel lucky. Especially not now; newly single all of his possessions in the back of a pickup truck, listening to the CBC while he moved back to a small town he never thought he’d return to. It’s not that he hated living in Altea; it was that it reminded him of all the things he lost. But after Adam left he was feeling shitty and Coran had offered him an olive branch.
ONE DAY I’LL FINISH A CURLING AU.

supernatural vld au is now tentatively named what's hidden next to you (will soon be seen)! I’ve been working on trying to finalize the characters in this AU, so right now we have:
Takashi “Shiro” Shirogane: history teacher at Garrison High, popular with both students and staff alike. went missing at the same time as Samuel Holt, the science teacher and his son, only to mysteriously turn up five days later missing his right arm. gets involved in the world of the supernatural after one of Lotor’s generals attempts to kill him under the belief that he’s been sent by the rift creatures to further their designs, now under the protection of Allura
Allura Altea: an arctic dragon whose father disappeared under mysterious circumstances related to the rift. can assume human form and manipulate ice. she’s determined to protect Shiro because she believes he’s the only link she has to her missing father, but why the fuck does he live in the desert.
Coran Hieronymus Wimbleton Smythe: a fire dragon in the service of the Altea family, namely Allura’s father. her caretaker ever since her father’s disappearance as a young girl. am I shamelessly ripping off his dragon design from the monsters and mana episode? absolutely.
Lance McClain: allura’s childhood friend, an arctic merman. insisted on going with her after she heard about a lead about her father. he can use water-based magic and works well in tandem with Allura’s magic. This is his first time out among humans so he’s very excited. quickly befriends hunk and just as quickly is ready to fight keith. some things never change.
Hunk Garrett: a mage, specializing in earth magic, who comes from a long line of earth mages. he’s also taught himself kitchen magic, and his a top notch engineer if he does say so himself. local befriender of transfer students and semi-professional keith wrangler.
Keith Kogane: a student of shiro’s that he’s particularly worried about bc he expects his living situation is not the best. foster kid, good friend of Hunk and Romelle, cryptid lover, urban explorer, and local enigma. presumably human. emphasis on the presumably part.
Katie Holt: Sam’s half-vampire daughter, takes more after her vampire mother so she’s homeschooled, as opposed to her brother Matt. she’s searching for information about her missing family and zeroes in on Shiro as being suspicious before she clears him. she does think he’s her closest lead, however.
Adam Warner: physics teacher and Shiro’s ex-boyfriend who panicked when he realized how serious they were getting on account of the fact that he’s a werewolf. now both he and Shiro are trying to hide their supernatural-related secrets from each other. just kiss already, you dumbasses.
Romelle Pollux: transfer student from “overseas”, but it is unclear where and she changes her story every time. self taught witch, provider of charms and potions to the local student population. keith just thinks she’s really into crystals and you know what? he respects that. dresses like she’s straight out of an 80s/90s teen movie.
Lotor: half-dragon, half-vampire. was once Allura’s childhood friend before their differences in opinion on how to deal with their parents’ disappearances split them apart. now they’re full fledged enemies, as Lotor seeks to eliminate Shiro before he can become a threat.
Acxa: Lotor’s loyal right hand woman. half-dragon, half-mermaid. she agrees that the rift creatures need to be stopped, though she doesn’t always agree with Lotor’s methods.
Ezor: half-naga, half-human, all girlfriend. more devoted to zethrid than she is lotor, but she’s still pretty devoted to lotor.
Zethrid: half-werewolf, half-demon. will crush your skull if you look at either ezor or lotor wrong.
Narti: a mysterious woman with strange abilities who serves Lotor. rumored to be the result of experimentation with magic.

headcanon + family !
@alnaari      [     meme     accepting !      ]
( sorry in advance because i kind of hijacked this ask to update my overall family headcanon for shiro instead of the tidbit that i intended for it to be adkfjgh )
tl;dr:  Shiro’s family are people he would not only die for, but people he has unwavering belief in and has given a part of who they are, to create who he is, and likewise, they contain a part of who he is, within them.
Shiro is second generation American. I headcanon Voltron to be set roughly around 100 - 150 years into the future. Shiro’s parents were drawn out to America to join the rest of their extended family who also made the move throughout the years, though leaving behind Shiro’s grandparents on his father’s side. Shiro’s mother was pregnant with Shiro’s older sister, Toshiko, during their move. Shiro was born 3 years later, in Sacremento, where they’d settled down. ( I also imagine migration is a lot less of a hassle in this time ~ but I’ll make a post of how I imagine the VLD post-modern world would differ to our current reality later. )
The four of them were extremely close. Shiro grew up loved and supported and getting up to mischief with his big sister. Shiro was extremely close to his mother when he was young. His father was a little strict and slow to understand some Western constructs, but was overall open-minded if he could see that it was what was best for his children. Shiro could confide in his sister literally anything under the sun. This bond only began to fracture when Shiro was diagnosed with MND*1 at age 16, during his first year at GG.
VLD doesn’t mention Shiro’s family at all. Not at the Kerberos launch, not in his visualisation during lion bonding, and not when the group return to Earth. These facts are what has prompted the headcanon that Shiro’s parents and sister are no longer alive.
~I haven’t hashed out the circumstances around this too much but here’s a brief timeline of the events -       He loses his mother at age 6 due to terminal illness -       He loses his father at age 20 due to a hit and run -       His sister is caught in the Galra cross-fire, leaving behind her husband and two year old son*2.
Shiro is no stranger to loss, starting with the fading memories of his mother. Life keeps taking and taking from him. Every moment of success or happiness, seems only to be rewarded with pain and more suffering. And this cycle continues for him as we are introduced to him in VLD i.e. reaching the edge of the solar system - only to be captured by the Galra, finally escaping and returning to Earth – only to be launched back into space and having to fight in an intergalactic war, finding a semblance of peace with new friends and new purpose – only to die, is brought back to life – only to live with the debilitating guilt and dysphoria of living in another’s body. And so on.
A year or so after his father’s death is when I headcanon that Adam proposed to Shiro. The accident was a reminder of how unguaranteed life really is, and they already felt like they didn’t have enough time with the imminent worsening of Shiro’s illness. Adam was Shiro’s family. Adam made Shiro happy. At this point, Shiro had begun to notice the pattern of happiness and loss, and a part of him was expecting to lose Adam. (This may or may not have played a minor part in Shiro’s decision to go on the mission. Just a minor part, but significant enough to mention, all the same).
Shiro always had a close friend in Keith. There was something in him that called out to Shiro, and his gut instinct turned out to be right. The fact that they both understood loss beyond their years must’ve helped the understanding they had with each other, though they never spoke about it beyond the conversation we saw in VLD about Keith’s father. Keith is Shiro’s family. While in space, this bond only strengthens as they face the hardships of war and hard decisions together. Keith becomes an irreplaceable part of Shiro’s life.
Pidge, Hunk, Lance, Allura, and Coran are an unlikely group of people that are thrown into Shiro’s life path but find a place nestled in the twists and curves of it. Without a common cause to fight for, they may never have even met, let alone become a united front, an understanding forming between them that can come only from shared experience, impenetrable. But life isn’t about what doesn’t happen, or what could’ve happened; it’s about what does happen and it’s outside of your control. There’s a closeness he feels with them that can’t be manufactured by any other means apart from trusting someone with his life, and having them trust him of the same.
He feels a special closeness with Allura. She, too, has suffered and lost, in greater quantities than even Shiro can fathom. She, too, has had leadership placed upon her, based sheerly on the fact that there is no one else to carry the burden. Sometimes they butted heads, but they always believed in each other, and more importantly, they believed and wished wholeheartedly for the same future. Their bond strengthened when Shiro’s soul passed through Allura to enter his new body – something that also allowed him to receive Allura’s Altean crystal as the energy source for his cybernetic arm, and perhaps even pilot the Atlas as a mecha-tron. Allura was    is Shiro’s family.
In summary, Shiro’s family are people he would not only die for, but people he has unwavering belief in and has given a part of who they are, to create who he is, and likewise, they contain a part of who he is, within them.
*1 Please see Shiro’s illness headcanon *2 I didn’t want to stray too far from canon, but I’m also holding onto the headcanon of Shiro having a sister. So in my canon, he asks Commander Iverson about Toshiko when the crew return to Earth who informs him of her fate ~ he doesn’t find out about his nephew until later. In any non-canon AUs, Toshiko is alive.

honestly if I’ve made a comic outline/drawing that’s pretty specific and not just a straight redraw of a character 9.99999 times out of 10 I have a sprawling au story hidden behind it

THis fandom is the worst bottomless pit of scum that ever existed and it's their fault the show fell as far as it did. And you're contributing to it. You don't deserve to call yourself a fan. You may as well forget it existed. I would much prefer that instead of you mocking it.
Oh hey! My first ask! Neat!
Anyway, let’s break down this comment.
This fandom is the worst bottomless pit of scum that existed
I believe this was written in a response to my latest reblog, in which in the tags, I said that the fanon content is pretty good, and the fandom has gotten a lot less rancid since the show ended. This is from my perspective of it all. I’ve never really experienced or seen that many ship wars, that much toxicity, or people blackmailing animation studios for the year and a quarter I’ve been in this fandom. I’m not denying that that ever happened, I’m not saying that those don’t matter, I’m saying that from my experience, and comparing it to the previous things that people reported going on in the fandom, the fandom seems to have improved, or gotten less toxic.
Now, I’m not an omniscient being, I don’t know if people are still doing those things. I don’t know if people are still harassing the VA’s and their families. From my experience, there’s cool people and cool art and cool au’s with only the occasional anti. Keep in mind again, I joined after the fandom had died, after December 14th, after a lot of the shit died down and people moved on. Which brings me onto another point I feel I have to make:
You’re grouping in all of the good people with the toxic ones.
While it is true that there were quite a lot of shitty, toxic people in the Voltron fandom, you neglect to mention that there are good people who just want to make content for a show they enjoy. And it’s true that bad publicity always gets more attention than good publicity. It’s why Rockstar paid people to write bad reviews for GTA V. Bad publicity gets infinitely more attention than good publicity. You’re more likely to focus on a person who continually attacks others based on their beliefs than someone who spends a lot of time and care working on something they really love. But this doesn’t mean there aren’t genuinely talented people creating amazing content purely out of passion.
Now, let’s look at the next part of this sentence.
it's their fault the show fell as far as it did
Here, I’m presuming you’re referring to the show’s reputation, but this is a very shallow mindset, pinning all of the blame on the fandom. I do admit, Voltron’s toxic fandom did give it a reputation, all right, and also served as a warning to other shows as to how toxic a fanbase could become. But you neglect to mention that quite a lot of the bad rep was created by the show and its staff itself.
Let’s take a look at Adam. He was introduced as Shiro’s boyfriend through a tweet made by the official Voltron twitter account. This got fans hyped for the new season, expecting the show to give good representation.
What they got was a short, 30 second scene, which in no way communicated a romantic relationship, and then Adam getting killed. Voltron then got a bad reputation for queerbaiting. The fandom owns neither the twitter account or runs the show. The backlash was produced by the fandom, but that would’ve happened in any other fandom. Promising something in a show, and then falling flat on that promise, especially with something as touchy as LGBT representation, isn’t a fault of the fandom. It’s a fault of the show and its staff.
Oh, and that’s not even touching into the bad reputation built up by the show by its bad writing, which I will get into later.
And you're contributing to it. You don't deserve to call yourself a fan.
Looking at the definition of a fan: an apparatus with rotating blades that creates a current of a- wrong definition, I mean a fan, or fanatic, sometimes also termed aficionado or enthusiast, is a person who exhibits strong interest or admiration for something or somebody. By that definition, I am a fan. Nothing in what you do or say can stop the fact that I find enjoyment in VLD. Sometimes, I just portray that enjoyment by critiquing it, and hating on it.
Second off, you’re just some anon on the internet. Why am I obliged to live by your judgement of who is and isn’t a fan? Whatever you say, I’m just going to make Voltron content anyway. I’m only writing this because I like writing these kind of things, and it’s good practice.
You may as well forget it existed. I would much prefer that instead of you mocking it.
After reading this, it is clear that OP holds the show in a very high light. Focus on the last few words ‘instead of you mocking it.’ OP, you do realise that if something is public, no matter what, it is susceptible to any Tom, Dick or Sally mocking it. I mock VLD because it is far from the best of the best. This doesn’t mean I do not enjoy it. This doesn’t mean no one can enjoy it. It just has a ton of blatant flaws when you look at it in a critique. Don’t believe me? Let me get you a few videos of a few different people explaining in depth why there are issues with VLD.

I wanna know everything
WHERE DO I BEGIN, VULPES????
Okay okay, I’m just gonna list off the things that I’ve already written for this AU and hope I don’t get into spoilers for the Undercut DJ. To make things clear, this AU is like a mix of canon divergence/fix-it since I’ve been taking the time to rewatch VLD and analyze the story as a whole. So let’s start at the beginning~
Voltron 2020: A canon divergence/fix-it AU based on the 2016 VLD series. I only call it Voltron 2020 since the stories I’ve written/drawn for it so far wouldn’t be out in the public until next year haha.
Tumblr media
Where does it start?
V2020 (I’m just shorten it to this) keeps S1 and S2 in canon and kicks off in S3. There’s only one small change I would make to S1 but I’ll get into that when I talk about Shiro in this AU.
These haircuts??? Explain please???
Haha, yes I’m a fan of the idea of Keith, Lance and Allura (yeah you heard me) having shorter haircuts. More so Lance because compared to the rest of the cast’s original designs, his hair maybe be simple but lacks a bit of flair. Lance is the one who get’s his undercut first and the story behind how it happens is covered in a fan comic called undercut that’s slated for release this year.
Tumblr media
How Keith and Allura get their haircuts are part of the story as well but doesn’t come until maybe S4 or after (I have to figure out the details on that). But for now, I just wanted to see how Keith looked with short hair and it looks pretty good!
Keith is in BP suit and Lance is in RP suit?
Yup, one of the things that drove me bonkers in VLD was how they didn’t match their lions. This is more of an OCD thing because I prefer matched colors over mix-match. However, once again changing their suits also has a reason behind it in the story. You can sort of call it…truly stepping into their new roles in the Paladin team. For Keith, becoming the leader Shiro always saw in him. For Lance, becoming the right-hand man and gaining confidence in his skills as a pilot (also becoming Keith’s rock haha).
Okay the real question: Does Shiro die in this AU?
Here’s where things get…a bit interesting? I have two versions of this AU where Shiro does die in his battle with Zarkon and the other where he does not die. So a divergent…within a divergent haha. I have to preface this with I don’t hate Shiro by any means and love his character with all my heart, which is why I made a version where he doesn’t die. Shiro as a disabled, LGBT and PoC character has so much potential that killing him off would be a waste for storytelling. Since the AU takes off in S3 where it was implied that he died, that’s where I took the story and started writing how his death affected the team, mainly Keith. The main point I want to get across is that Shiro needs to lose his connection to Black Lion in order for Keith, Lance and Allura to grow as characters.
In the case I choose to have Shiro die….
As per usual, Keith reluctantly becomes the Black Paladin, Lance becoming the Red Paladin and Allura is the Blue Paladin. We see how Keith is struggling with his loss of Shiro and how he feels incompetent being the leader of Voltron. This would then lead to into the undercut comic and spark a more genuine, supportive friendship between Keith and Lance. I would also keep how Shiro’s conscience remains in the Black Lion, which only Keith knows about cause he’s BP now. This would be great thread to connect Keith and Allura who have lost someone dear to them and rely on technology to keep them alive (when in reality they will always live in their hearts).
I would also keep the Kuron idea but instead of him joining team Voltron, Honerva and Zakron use the Shiro clones and make their own version of Voltron with the Robeasts we see in S7-8. That way, we could keep The Black Paladins fight since that’s a very emotional and groundbreaking moment for Keith having to face someone cares deeply for.
In the case I choose to have Shiro live….
I wouldn’t have him be BP again since that prevents Keith from growing into a leader, which then prevent Lance growing as a character and then prevents Allura from growing as a character. If anyone has noticed after watching the series, the character development kind of gets wonky when they decided to bring Shiro back as BP. If anything, it really hindered Keith, Lance and Allura’s character development since S3 focused so much on the dynamics in team Voltron shifted (which would have been super interesting to see as time went on). Since this idea is fairly still new I haven’t quite figured out how I would write the story if I went this route. But, I’m not opposed of having Shiro being involved with the Altean colony…again gotta workshop some stuff here but killing off Shiro is such a waste of potential!
ALSO, if Shiro stays alive, then we need to address Adam in S1 E1. It can be simple like when everyone is at Keith’s shack and Adam’s name gets dropped casually like this:
Shiro: How did you get all this information? This is classified stuff from the Garrison…
Keith: I had someone help me.
Shiro: Someone….?
Keith: …it was Adam.
Shiro: Oh…
Not exact but my point is that could have been a great moment to tell the audience Shiro and Keith have a connection with Adam (more so Shiro because we all didn’t know he was gay until much much later in the series). But lemme move on before I get too into Adam cause so much needs to be written out before I spill it all haha.
Next big question: which ships are canon?
Y’all don’t burn me at the stake but….
Allura and Lotor.
I KNOW I KNOW! BUT WHAT ABOUT KLANCE!?!?!?!?!??!
Y’all know I will ship Klance until the end of time but right now I haven’t gotten to a point in the story where confirming Klance as a romantic relationship feels natural and right yet. If anything, in V2020 I really want to build Keith and Lance’s relationship as friends and teammates which in turn can lead into something more. But the groundwork needs to be done in order for that to happen.
But yeah Allura and Lotor are confirmed in V2020 cause that feels right and Lotor deserves so much more than what we saw in the show. I’ll leave it at that for now.
Is the ending the same?
HA. NOPE. FAR FROM IT!
This is probably biggest change I made in V2020 but when VLD did this it made me worried for the show as a whole:
Zarkon remains as the main villain and final boss for the entire series.
I would have not killed off Zarkon as early as they did in VLD simply because Zarkon was made out to be such a big threat in the beginning. Don’t get me wrong, Honerva and the war factions are a cool idea as opposing forces but they could have happened first and left Zarkon for last.
Honevra regaining her memories and going on her rampage could have happened first. Lotor could have found out that she was his mother  and had to confront his abuser. Allura would have to face the fact someone of her own kind was doing horrible things and that evil isn’t determined by (alien) race. All of that could have been presented before killing Zarkon and would have pushed Allura and Lotor’s character development. Also, having Honevra written off first would give Zarkon even more incentive to do what he’s doing cause well, that’s his wife and love makes you do crazy things. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The war factions could have happened after Honerva and that’s where we learn more about the Galra empire and society. Where are there are cracks in the system? How are half breeds like Keith and Lotor viewed? How do factions like the Blade come into play and help team Voltron? All of that could have been explored! Honestly, the war factions arc(?) is an opportunity to further develop Keith and Lotor characters and their relationship since they are both half-Galra.
As for the final battle and ending of it all, Allura doesn’t die and Voltron (the robot) is the one to be sacrificed.
I wrote a whole theory on it after watching S8, so if you wanna read yet another long post you can check it out here haha.
The point of keeping Zarkon as the main (and final) villain in V2020 is to keep the overarching story simple. Think of ATLA, the story as a whole is really simple: 4 nations based on elemental powers are under the tyrannical rule of a dictator and only one person can stop him and save the world. By keeping the objective of the story simple, there’s room for character development and world-building. Instead of a dark, broody space epic (if that’s what you wanna call it), V2020 focuses more on the characters and world-building that are affected by the main opposing force known as Zarkon. A lot of the stories I have in mind are more episodic but I think that works best for a show where the stage is as grand as space haha.
Pidge and Hunk??
As for Pidge, she kind of….gets everything she wants in the show?? There isn’t really anything drastic I would change since the show fixed her issues…
As for Hunk my baby boy sweet cinnamon roll, don’t worry. I’m making sure he’s more than just a scaredy cat who loves food. I really liked how in the show Hunk learned about Galra diplomacy so maybe I can work with that!

Yeah, I think….that’s everything I can tell you about this AU and I’m so sorry, Vulpes, that I made this answer so long! ^^; Thank you showing interest in my AU!
