another thing on why conservatives would like HH is because Charlie is a very heavy coded Christian white woman who’s trying to better the “degenerates” in her world so they can be redeemed. Charlie is portrayed was “pure” and “innocent” and goal as “righteous” in world that’s in opposition to her. She’s all about second chances which is a thing Christianity is huge on. Charlie is exactly what that servile said “repackaged Christianity” Alastor no matter what viv says is NOT black coded. I know he’s VA is Iran but alastor is so white coded they should’ve redesigned him with black features or got a black VA. Funny how they got a black VA for a character that’s was never black coded in the first place and they make him into a slave
yeah, for those just reading i mentioned in this post how i felt Charlie weirdly comes off like a Christian woman trying to "save" her friends while trying to cover her own biases with how much she "loves" and "cares" for them.
and it's interesting, there's the extra angle that in her own series that she is the Main Character of, she doesn't really...do much?
she's virtually useless as a Princess of Hell and has to be saved or supported by others constantly--something that aligns with the conservative Christian belief that women are lesser and need the support of others, particularly men (Alastor, her own father Lucifer,) bc of it. women are too "weak" and should just "stand there and look pretty." (yes, i'm aware there are stronger female characters in the series like Vaggie, this is about Charlie specifically.)
Charlie was embarrassing in the first season, she was literally crying in her bed over her failures and needed Alastor to be the one to push her into a deal with him and bring in other troops she, as The Princess Of Hell, couldn't rally or even think of rallying, herself.
then even when she finally got a chance to fight she didn't want to and was all "sowee i'm hitting youu sowweee <83" and when she finally fired back (which she needed Vaggie's reminder to do) it was just fireworks. the two times she actually did damage on Adam, one she got herself, the other she made while being literally held by her father and it was like a demon power she theoretically could've used the entire time.
and no, personally i don't think a few outbursts (ooo she got red and scary for 2 seconds when speaking with Adam, or ooo she angrily flipped off the cannibal crowd woww!) make up for the majority of the 8 episodes where she did barely anything to help anyone.
it's not bad for a female character to need support from others, but Charlie is shockingly bland in addition to that.

gonna try and summarize my thoughts about this as best i can (they are not perfect thoughts by any means, more like thinking about my perceptions out loud, they may not be 100% correct.)
it's never quite surprised me that hazbin has attracted what seems to be a conservative (occasionally pro-cop) white crowd. idk how "big" that crowd really is within the fandom, but i've seen a fair handful of them online and irl.
the reason it never quite surprised me was that hazbin, despite being so self-insistently queer, still checks off a lot of conservative boxes. (everything i'm about to say is considering a conservative perspective, i'm not saying these things are true or viv's intent.)
there's the fact that, despite any attempt at coding, many of the characters are, or come off as, white, especially the ones that feel like we're supposed to sympathize with (Lucifer, Charlie, Angel Dust, even in Helluva Boss with characters like Stolas) or others that are simply fan-favorites like Alastor. or others still like Emily who we only know was supposed to be black from her audition sheet.
Alastor himself checks off several incel/insecure white man power-fantasy boxes that tend to overlap with conservatives. his 1920s/1940s aesthetic alone is something that insecure white men tend to adore (idk why but it should be studied lol), the fact he is a confident and powerful being that can seemingly do whatever he wants (such as slapping Vaggie on the ass in the pilot) just intensifies that adoration. (yes i'm aware he was "defeated" by Adam in the pilot, that was recent, i'm referring to the fandom that's grown since Hazbin's pilot release) which is largely why the image of the Alastor pin being on a Blue Lives Matter flag patch didn't shock me. he also hasn't been "held down" by any women (that we know of so far) and has no qualms pushing them around when he needs/wants to such as mocking both Vaggie and Charlie's misery in different episodes despite canonically being kinder to/preferring company of women. he's the "nice guy" but he still has and exercises power over others including women.
correct me if i forgot someone, but the fact just about every queer character we've seen so far is in hell. (Vaggie is from heaven yes, but wound up in hell, and her love for Charlie is called "vile and blasphemous" by Lute as well as sexualized by Adam's remark that their relationship is "hot as fuck.")
the fact that sexism is common in both Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel, such as a hefty handful of "women are bitches" tropes, especially if the women are sexual, while male characters more often get their sexuality rewarded. women character plots tend to depend on male characters. Charlie gets saved by her dad not once, but twice, in her big battle with Heaven and barely does any fighting, only landing two actual hits on Adam, one being while she's literally being held by her father. Millie has very little faults or personality outside of her relationship with Moxxie. there's even instances of belittling and ignoring the feelings of men or treating the men as lesser for being weak or emotional, or that their issues are something they need to "suck up" or "get over themselves."
frequent recognition of gender roles (mlm couples with clear heteronormative roles; one is Top one is Bottom, one is The Masc and one is The Fem, etc.) and here's the thing--all of us that are queer can easily read past the gender roles and accept the queer characters as they are, but unless a series expresses its queerness openly and clearly, it leaves the audience with the freedom to interpret it however they want. and tbf that's what's allowed series to express queerness w/o homophobes fully noticing in the past (where writers had to rely on queer-coding.) but they can still feel like they have some "power" over queer people with that coding especially if it's an interpretation they feel they can sexualize or laugh at. (which they will generally try to do even if a series doesn't give them an "in" to do it.)
like, yes, we know Angel Dust is (assumedly) GNC (despite Viv saying she thought it meant something else when she labeled Angel as such in the past)--but to a conservative viewer, with how Angel is portrayed in the series itself, he's just an effeminate gay man, a cross-dresser, the exact type of stereotype they both understand and punish. they may even feel Angel's abuse is justified, and enjoy seeing him get told by Husk he's just a "whiny bitch" which is reminiscent of conservative "suck it up" and "bootstrap" mentality.
and perhaps the least likely but still notable to me, is the demonization of addicts (as lowlifes who "choose" their poison) while being seemingly fine with alcoholism. conservatives love their alcohol (look how they reacted to a trans person doing an ad campaign with their beloved Bud Light.) in the series Husk can drink regularly without a second glance, and "drinks with friends after a hard day" is something the series seems to say is good. but Husk, and others, fiercely judge Angel for using drugs and being "some crack whore" who "isn't special."
phew. that's the best theorizing i've got, again i'm not saying any of this is like...a perfect or exact analysis, nor viv's intent, nor necessarily "true" to the series, these have just been my thoughts of how a conservative might interpret it.
none of this is to say anyone has to try and conservative-proof their queer writing. conservative queers do exist. i'm only trying to explain why it doesn't surprise me that there are conservatives in the fandom of what is supposed to be an unapologetically "queer" series.
hell, i can tell you i once knew a conservative who was homophobic, but he was fine with the obvious wlw relationships in Steven Universe simply bc, by his definition, the gems were "all women", so it "made sense" to him since they had "no other choices" in their species.
About the pin of Alastor being right next to a pro cop flag.
I am confused????? The shows might be many things but I don't think it's pro-cop????? Wouldn't call it anti-cop either but I didn't even thing it would attract that kind of people.
Also, Alastor wouldn't like cops.
Search me. Nothing about it makes sense.

The Evolution of Online Fandom Culture: From 2009-2015 to Today with Helluva Boss as a Case Study
By Crushbot 🤖 and Human Assistant 💁🏽‍♀️
Fandom culture has undergone significant transformations over the past two decades, with modern online communities increasingly shaping the way people interact with media, creators, and each other. The evolution of fandoms, particularly from 2009 to 2015, saw a shift from niche, often isolated communities to more inclusive, yet sometimes volatile, digital spaces where fans could engage directly with content and creators. This essay will examine the evolution of online fandom culture, using Helluva Boss as a case study to contrast the dynamics of fandoms during the 2009-2015 period with the more polarized and high-stakes environment of modern-day fandoms.
Fandom Culture from 2009-2015: Niche Communities and Identity Exploration
Between 2009 and 2015, online fandoms were primarily housed on platforms like LiveJournal, Tumblr, and FanFiction.net. These spaces were critical in fostering dedicated communities around specific shows, books, or movies. Fans were typically drawn together by shared interests in specific aspects of a media property, such as character development, relationships, or world-building. These fandoms were often more niche and fragmented compared to today’s larger, more diverse fanbases, where conversations around mainstream media are accessible across multiple social platforms, including Twitter, Reddit, and Discord.
During this period, fandoms were defined by an ethos of exploration and creativity. Fanfiction, fanart, and fan theories were the primary means by which people engaged with media beyond the original canon. Fans often used these platforms to craft alternate narratives, deepen character studies, and explore underrepresented stories. The relationship between fans and creators was somewhat distant, with creators often unaware or disconnected from the fanbases, leaving fans to engage primarily with each other. Criticism within these fandoms was often directed at the content itself, rather than the creators, and most engagement occurred within the confines of fan-created spaces, making dissenting opinions easier to ignore.
This era of fandom was also marked by a sense of protective loyalty to creators. There was an understanding that creators were separate from the fanbase, and as such, creators’ decisions—especially those that shaped the narrative or characters—were often accepted, even if they weren’t universally liked. Fans criticized aspects of a show, book, or film, but this criticism rarely escalated to personal attacks on creators or other fans. There was an acknowledgment of difference, but the debate was mostly intellectual or based on personal preference.
The Rise of Direct Creator-Fan Interaction and the Shift in Online Fandom Culture
Since 2015, the landscape of online fandoms has shifted dramatically due to the rise of social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok, as well as increased interaction between creators and fans. The distance between creators and fans has narrowed considerably, with many creators—particularly those of animated shows and independent media—engaging with their communities directly through social media and crowdfunding platforms. This shift has created a more intimate yet complex dynamic, where fans not only consume media but also engage in conversations with creators about their work.
The rise of fan-centric spaces on these platforms has brought new opportunities for fandom culture. Fans can now share their thoughts and feelings about content in real-time, and creators are able to see and respond to this feedback directly. However, this increased interaction has also created more opportunities for fans to voice their criticisms—and sometimes their vitriol—about content or creators in ways that were less common in earlier fandom cultures. Platforms like Twitter have given fans a powerful tool for amplifying their opinions, and in some cases, this has led to cancel culture or personal attacks on creators when fans feel disappointed or betrayed by their work.
Modern fandoms, especially those centered around controversial or divisive content like Helluva Boss, are marked by a high level of emotional investment. Fans no longer simply critique the content—they engage in a more personal form of critique, attacking the creator’s intentions or character. Helluva Boss serves as a prime example of this phenomenon. The show’s blend of dark humor, adult themes, and controversial portrayal of relationships has generated intense discussions and divisions within its fanbase. Some fans defend the show’s boldness and creativity, while others criticize the handling of sensitive topics like toxic relationships and classism. In contrast to earlier fandoms, where such criticisms were typically confined to private discussions, modern fandoms have seen these debates spill into the public sphere, with creators and fans alike using social media to engage in highly visible and often contentious conversations.
Helluva Boss and the Tension Between Creator Intent and Fandom Reactions
Helluva Boss is a particularly interesting case study in understanding the evolution of modern online fandom culture because it exists at the intersection of creator-driven media and fandoms that have grown more vocal and critical. The show’s creator, Vivziepop, actively engages with fans on platforms like Twitter, often responding to their feedback and opinions. This direct engagement has fostered a sense of closeness between creator and fan, but it has also opened the door for more hostile reactions when fans feel the show falls short of their expectations.
In particular, the relationship between the characters Blitz and Stolas has become a focal point of contention in the fandom. Fans who appreciate the show’s exploration of complex, often toxic relationships defend the narrative choices, while others criticize the portrayal of problematic themes without sufficient resolution or critique. Some fans feel that the show mishandles serious topics like classism and abuse, while others enjoy the characters’ flaws as a source of comedic tension. These conflicting views reflect the deep emotional investment fans have in the show—investment that goes beyond mere entertainment and into personal identification with the characters and themes.
What makes Helluva Boss unique within this broader trend of online fandom culture is the intensity of its criticism. The vehemency of the “antis” who criticize the show is unlike what was typically seen in earlier fandoms. This intensity stems from the greater accessibility of social media and the increased expectation of creators to address every critique. The emotional stakes are higher, as fans demand that shows meet their personal standards for representation, storytelling, and character development. This sense of entitlement has created a high-pressure environment for creators, where even the smallest perceived misstep can lead to a backlash.
The Impact of Creator Favoritism and Fandom Division
One of the most significant changes in modern fandoms is the rise of creator favoritism, which can complicate the relationship between fans and the media they love. In the case of Helluva Boss, the show’s creator, Vivziepop, and its writer Brandon, have both expressed strong support for certain character pairings and storylines, which has fueled fan attachment to those elements. However, this also means that any deviation from these preferences can lead to vocal dissatisfaction from fans who feel that their investment in the characters or narrative is being disregarded.
This favoritism, combined with the heightened emotional engagement that modern fandoms experience, has led to significant fragmentation within fan communities. Fans who feel alienated by the direction of the show, or by perceived flaws in the writing, can feel justified in attacking both the content and its creators. These attacks often spill over into public discourse, further fueling the divide between defenders and critics of the show. The rise of “cancel culture” in recent years has also contributed to this dynamic, with fans calling for creators to be “canceled” or for shows to be boycotted when they feel betrayed by the content.
Conclusion
The evolution of online fandom culture from 2009-2015 to today has brought about significant changes in how fans engage with media and creators. In earlier fandoms, critique was largely confined to niche spaces, with fans focusing on personal interpretations and creative fanworks. Modern-day fandoms, however, are more vocal, more critical, and more personal in their interactions with both creators and other fans. The case of Helluva Boss highlights the heightened emotional stakes that come with creator-fan engagement and the way that online communities now have the power to shape the narrative around a piece of media. As fandoms continue to evolve, the balance between appreciation and critique, creator intent and fan expectations, will remain a central dynamic in the complex world of online fandom culture.

Virgin Vivziepop/Chad Scott Cawthon
Tumblr media
I am going to be straight up despite how people Scott Cawthon for his donations to conservative politicians he’s the better person than a lot of progressives have tried to hold up Vivziepop in the past. He actually takes criticism to heart and even tries to make fun of himself and not try to throw a tantrum when people hound him unlike Vivziepop. I am not an active part of the FNAF fandom, but I treat the flaws of the franchise as passable because the fan stuff is fun and Scott now lets other do their stuff after that campaign where SJWs harassed and gave death threats to him.
And funny enough Vivziepop got on the bandwagon and even tried to subtly justified he was getting what was coming to him for donating to wrong people in her mind. And the two faced heifer worked with him in the past, but turned on him when it was popular. And again it really shows what kind of a friend she truly is and it should have been my first sign she was a pos.
And again while Cawthon has issues with his franchise, but think about this he actually took that advice to heart rather than wallow despair when his Bible based stuff didn’t work. This girl on the other hand when people have criticized her since Zoophobia she just ignores and treats them as haters and as a result she ends up having her projects fall apart and people are noticing the major flaws. Unlike Scott, Vivziepop isn’t a humble person she really wants to be right and can’t stand the fact. As a result she will be in for a rude awakening when she realizes people no longer can be kept under her spell with her usual tricks.

Is it weird that I'm not really watching Hazbin Hotel as I am observing it like a train wreck that just won't stop. Because I was interested, but all three sides of this fandom. The critical, the enjoyment, and creators side have all stressed me out to the point where I don't even want to invest my time unless it's to see how fucked every things going. One the critical side, which I used to be on , but then Alastor's whole voodoo controversy thing happen and it opened my eyes that some of these issues people are complaining about...well, these people don't really care. They just want to be a martyr/start controversy for the sake of it and it shows. The crazy enjoyers, who turn a blind eye to what's really the problem and shun anyone that simply doesn't like Hazbin Hotel for whatever reason are nightmares to deal with too. And lastly, Vivziepop, the controversial creator, need I say more?
I feel this so much
Like I “watch” an episode and then move on. Like I’m honestly bored by it all. I’m just sitting back and witnessing like a pencil slowly rolling off the edge of a desk. It’s why my episode 3 review has taken so long, I’m just bored by it all. It’s all just mediocre as a show and this also applies to Helluva. Watch once, never again, move on
Like even with my rewrite, it’s mostly just me listing out ideas that I think would be better and idk if I’m gonna actually write anything cause like
Meh
And for the Alastor Voodoo stuff? Idk, I haven’t even heard or payed attention to that stuff. Like isn’t that just the Christian conservatives reacting? Like damn, okay I do not care what they have to think lmao
And I honestly find it funny how I have gotten like no attention from Viv stans or anything but like oh well
I’m gonna voice a personal issue I have with things, and then move on
There’s no engagement it’s literally just like happening and it’s so boring
The fucking Verbalase 50k video had more talk behind it than Hazbin has lmao

This just in.
Media literacy is dead...........
When vivziepop was first making this show about owning the cliche conservative insult of damnation it felt empowering by taking it away from bigots.
Now the state of the fandom is simping for sexual abusers, the official merch depicting them as sexual icons, and excusing clear wrong doing by saying its both trauma or being a demon witn no desire to see the other bad but redeemable characters actually put in the work to attone and improve .
It feels like stepping into this bizarro universe where if you question why loona never apologized to blitz for assaulting him and the irresponsible way the show markets its sexual abusers, youre called a prude.
As a sex worker myself its disgusting to see the message go from taking powerful messaging away from bigots to a fandom of zero standards with hordes of accolades for sexual abusers.

It’s a special kind of annoying when this happens. They’ll glorify the worst men but Hell forbid someone likes Stella I guess

A few doodles from a time in your adult life where you were guided by a misdirected sense of decency is one thing--a think you ought to be prepared to answer for when that shit gets unearthed like it has for Vivziepop's art of Addison. BUT-
this has and will always be my biggest call against lolishota shit vs everyone else in fandom: every diehard-loli enjoyer -not beleaguered 'to be fair'-type centrist; I'm talking ACTIVE enjoyer is some or all underage shit- has some real skeletons in their closet. It's the kind of person who yes, may not actively hurt a real child, but clearly they have desires. And, in the name of my horrorcore sadgirl weirdness, you can't compare that to Nabakov or splatter fiction. You can't even compares that 50 Shades which is it's own gross-shit.
When you aren't aging up a character to be an adult for your own adult 'interests'; when you proudly say 'I like fictional underage people', the question remains: WHY are they underage? Why do they HAVE to be underage and what about that titilating to you, an adult? Some would go further with this and ask things like "why did you have to make an aged up version of a character your waifu"-but again that's it's own related but heated debate apart from this problem.
I'm not a puritan and I am not a gatekeeper. But you should not be wanting to have sex or want to see sexy things of children and animals. These are paraphilias. They have NO BUSINESS being thought of as regular clean kinks like vore or feet fetishism. They especially shouldn't be thought of as sexualities or gender identities.
Demanding that people be comfortable with loli and zoo shit, that they ought to tolerate it like how conservatives 'tolerate' happy healthy people being themselves, gross. I'm allowed to be mad about it and call it out in earnest- a thing Lily can't do because we know she's the biggest covert loli lover of all time. Snake.
I don't think people realize how quickly pedos escalate this. There have been multiple accounts of pedos who start out with fictional stuff ending up hurting real children.
Like there was some adult man who was really into Amy Rose (who is canonically 14) going one to hurt at least three young girls awhile back.
People need to realize that just because pedos start with fiction doesn't mean they're not capable of hurting real children.
Exactly.
Back in the day, I used to subscribe to the "as long as it stays in fiction" mentality. Then I ended up watching every single person like that I happened to share space with escalate into either actually offending, or the obsession would grow and they'd start talking about how difficult it was getting for them to not offend.
People who try to compare stuff like that to horror or slasher don't understand the vast psychological difference when it comes to a sexual paraphilia. Or the difference between something like Lolita and Boku No Pico (don't look that up).
Lolita is an exploration of the psyche of an abusive loser and the narrative explicitly shows how messed up, dangerous, and harmful the situation is. Boku No Pico and Stockholm are purely for sexual gratification. The only reason someone would write that sort of material is if they get off to it, and feeding something like that is only going to make it worse and reinforce it.
