1. Zoo welcomes birth of four endangered horse foals

“[The Marwell Zoo in GB] said it was "delighted" to welcome the arrivals to the endangered Przewalski’s horse herd. All four are female and said to be "doing well" after two were born in May and two in June. […] “These horses, that were previously listed extinct in the wild, are an example of how zoo breeding programmes can help restore threatened species around the world.” […] All the Przewalski’s horses alive today are descended from just 12 individuals. This year, 800 native seedlings (100 trees, 350 shrubs and 350 ground covers) have been planted on the northwestern buffer of Lake Claremont. 7. Prime editing efficiently corrects cystic fibrosis mutation in human lung cells
“[R]esearchers have developed a gene-editing approach that efficiently corrects the most common mutation that causes cystic fibrosis, found in 85 percent of patients. With further development, it could pave the way for treatments that are administered only once and have fewer side effects. The new method precisely and durably corrects the mutation in human lung cells, restoring cell function to levels similar to that of Trikafta [the standard treatment since 2019].”
8. Montana’s High Court Considers a Constitutional Right to a Stable Climate

Concise Guide to Developing a Neuroscience Based BBC Sherlock Holmes Esq Mind Palace
Following is a condensed and concise guide for you to develop similar sorts of mental mastery as Sherlock displays in the amazing British interpretation of Sir Conan Arthur Doyle's beloved character. I use this mind map everyday for basically everything and I don't think that there is any area of my life that hasn't been improved in someway by engaging with its mechanics.
This mindmap was designed to be useful in almost all life circumstances and there is a great deal of flexibility and modifications that can be made to its use to be tailored to your own particular needs to maximize utility and functionality
The key to this system is that there are six main inputs of which all you have to do is think of one of the six directions in orthogonal Euclidean space. I chose each direction in correlation to the general theme of the cognitive heuristic that you want to "activate" with the general function of the region of (the majority) of peoples brain has somewhat localized centers dedicated to said cognitive pattern.
The labelling of these directions is arbitrary and feel free to define your own characterization or order of inputs however I just listed my ontology as is I use it IRL.
+z/-z -> 1, 2 (or forward/back) respectively
-x/+x -> 3, 4 (or left/right) respectively
-y/+y 5, 6 -> (pr down/up) respectively
It is key to keep in mind of your mind that -z is essentially just the direction that your eyes face as set in your skull for a point of reference.

Each "direction" can be further broken down by applying the six inputs again which results in six main branches and thirty six sub branches, the initial thematic aspect behind the choice of the first six inputs are extrapolated and carried through into the assignment of the sub set of the thirty six sub branches so there is a degree of logical organization of the resultant four dimensional meta cognitive structure (four dimensions as inputs will be repeatedly done temporally as needed)

The mental representation of the MM will look like the image above with the caveat that in all Euclidean directions, there would be an addition MR unit facing out of each plane which would be 1, 1/2, 2/3,3/4,4/5,5/6,6 respectively. Also inputs that "bounce back" such as 1, 2/2,1 3,4/4,3 and so on are considered to be unique inputs as its the pathing and tracing out of these inputs mentally which acts non-combinatory to result in a total of thirty six unique sub branches.
There may be a lot of unfamiliar terminology, especially acronyms which I have developed just mostly for my own use before I decided to put this memeplex out into cyberphysical reality, if there are any terms or concepts that anyone is unsure about feel free to ask but I am going to define everything in Unsignificant Sentience eventually.
Key to understanding and using this list is that each integer corresponds to one pole of a base Euclidean axis

Viable System Model based MM systems
The viable system model is a cybernetic theory and model utilized to model entities so that they remain viable and resilient in the fact of change. The model itself was derived from the physiological evo psych based compartmentation of function present in the human brain. I am going to do a post on VSMs at some point but the Wikipedia link is there if anyone is interested.

As shown by this highly scientific diagram, there is a general localization of specific cognitive and mental phenomena associated with each hemisphere and I hope that on some level that the mental action of enacting an input to the corresponding area of the brain that is more generally specialized in carrying out that processing might improve the effectiveness and/or efficiency of that given task. I would love to get an hold of an EEG and do some digging but that is a future project

So aside from forcing 42 specific commands into your brain, let alone the time required to practice utilizing this mind map in vivo, there is unfortunately another set within the +y knowledge branch where each domain of knowledge has ten subsets in order to break down learning and assimilating new information into more discrete chunks in order to facilitate recall and synthetizing of a priori knowledge.

There is an ungodly amount of extra details and systems that I have curated, developed, and refined regarding the MM and some of them are evident in some of the seemingly occult acronyms scattered throughout this document.
I was going to create an ARG game for later on in this year of 2023 after I finished the Unsignificant Sentience trilogy and I was going to make mechanics such as this MM part of the way to play the ARG and to get players immersed in the world building but I just want to get some of my ideas out there as I have been working on too many projects in a vacuum

Miniature Marvels: Wireless Millirobots Successfully Navigate Arteries - Technology Org
For the first time ever, wireless millirobots navigated a narrow blood vessel both along and against arterial flow.
Researchers from the University of Twente and Radboudumc inserted the screw-shaped robots in a detached aorta with kidneys where they controlled them using a robotically controlled rotating magnet. Health Holland recently awarded a grant to further develop the technology to be able to remove blood clots.

Each year worldwide, one in four people die from conditions caused by blood clots. A blood clot blocks a blood vessel preventing the blood from delivering oxygen to certain areas of the body.
Surgeons can use flexible instruments to remove the blood clot therefore allowing the blood to flow again, but some regions in the body are difficult to reach. Millirobots can overcome these limitations and remove blood clots from difficult-to-reach blood vessels.
Synergistic Triumph
The researchers showed that these millirobots were able to travel through blood vessels. But to do so, the millirobots need power, to travel up- and downstream and to accurately be controlled and localised. Last but not least, they need to be biocompatible and leave no further damage to the inside of blood vessels. At the Technical Medical Centre of the University of Twente, the researchers set up their experiment with a real aorta and kidneys.
“This required an interdisciplinary approach and the collaboration of many different departments. The Robotics Lab, Laboratory of biointerface, blood lab, DesignLab, LipoCoat, and MESA+ all helped us achieve this successful outcome”, explains researcher Islam Khalil.
Guided by Precision
In the experiment, the researchers used a robotically controlled rotating magnetic field to control the millirobots wirelessly. With an X-ray machine, they were able to localise the millirobot while steering through the aorta.
The researchers maintained a maximum arterial flow of 120 ml per minute inside the aorta. But with a stronger magnetic field, the millirobots should be able to overcome a greater blood flow. The millirobots performed stable straight runs with and against the flow, and also with multiple robots at the same time.
Miniature Marvels
The robots themselves are 3D-printed, screw-shaped objects with a small permanent magnet inside.
“This tiny magnet of just one millimetre long and one millimetre in diameter is placed in such a way that it can rotate the ‘screw’ in both ways. This allows for swimming against the flow and then turning around and swimming back”, explains Khalil.
The small size makes it possible to use several robots at the same time. And the screw shape makes it possible to drill through a blood clot.
Unlocking Potential
“These millirobots have huge potential in vascular surgery”, says Michiel Warle, a vascular surgeon at Radboudumc.
“Currently, we use blood thinners and flexible tools, but a millirobot can travel to hard-to-reach arteries while they only need minimal incisions to be inserted.”
In a new collaboration with Radboudumc and Triticum Medical (Israel), the researchers will further develop the millirobots to enable them to remove blood clots wirelessly. The consortium will look at ways to exploit this technology fostering collaborative growth in medical robotics and technical medicine.
Besides breaking up the blood clots to enable the blood flow of arteries, the technology can potentially be used for other targeted interventions. “The robots can deliver drugs to very specific places in the body where the drug is needed the most. That way we have minimal side effects in the rest of the body”, explains Khalil.
Power in Collaboration
This research is a collaboration between Radboudumc and the University of Twente. It received funding from the TURBO (Twente University RadBoudumc Opportunities) programme. With the TURBO programme, research groups from both institutions can expand an innovative idea into a large research project.
The researchers extended their collaboration with Triticum Medical (Israel) to further develop the millirobots. Health Holland recently awarded them a TKI-LSH (Topconsortia for Knowledge & Innovation – Life Science & Health) grant for public-private partnerships from Health Holland
Dr. Islam Khalil is Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomechanical Engineering (BE; Faculty of ET / TechMed Centre).  His research interests include the modelling and design of motion control systems for soft microrobots, biologically-inspired microrobots, mechatronic system design, and untethered magnetic micro/nanorobotics with applications to micro/nanomanipulation, micro-assembly, and targeted drug delivery.

Android Phones with Exynos Chipset Need Security Updates
Last Updated: 29 March 2023
Google's Project Zero found numerous vulnerabilities in the Exynos chipset used by a variety of Android phones. The most severe of them could allow an attacker to remotely compromise a phone, without the phone owner needing to do anything. The attacker just needs the phone number. That said, it doesn't seem to be under active exploit yet, at least as far as public news goes.
Affected Devices: Only phones with certain Exynos chipsets are vulnerable. Adding to the confusion is the fact that in some cases, the same phone model has different chips, depending on where in the world it was sold.
The Samsung S22 is one example: the version sold in Europe has Exynos, but those sold in many other places have a Qualcomm chip.
Affected Chipsets: Exynos Modem 5123, Exynos Modem 5300, Exynos 980, Exynos 1080, and Exynos Auto T5123.
Google provided this list of likely affected devices based on the chipset list:
Samsung Galaxy phones including those in the S22, M33, M13, M12, A71, A53, A33, A21s, A13, A12, and A04 series
Vivo phones including those in the S16, S15, S6, X70, X60, and X30 series
Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7 and 7 Pro
Any vehicles that use the Exynos Auto T5123 chipset
Exploited?: I haven't yet found information saying the vulnerabilities are known to have been exploited, but the Project Zero researchers stated "With limited additional research and development, we believe that skilled attackers would be able to quickly create an operational exploit to compromise affected devices silently and remotely".
Mitigation: Google recommends you turn off Wi-Fi calling and Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) on the affected devices. However, they have acknowledged that depending on carrier, you may not be able to turn off VoLTE.
Furthermore, you may not be able to use your phone for voice at all if VoLTE is off, depending on carrier, etc. So realistically, your best bet is a patch. See below.
Fix: As of the latest update to this post, Google has said the Pixel 7, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and Pixel 6a have the critical vulnerabilities patched in the March 2023 security update.
It looks like at least some of the Samsung models have some patches available, so install any security updates you have pending and keep an eye out for more.

If I had to change anything about 3 vivosaurs...
1. Literally all of U-raptor. Utahraptor is one of my favorite dinosaurs but its design.... yeah uh just start over completely with that one.
2. Change Cheirus's model to reflect the real animal. (This bothers me way more than Parium tbh, I REALLY like real deinocheirus and translating it into a revamped vivo would be wonderful!)
3. Give a lot of the super evolvers more distinct designs. So many of them are recolors of each other and there's only a couple totally unique ones.

Started from a sort of memetic algorithm in 2016 which was a simple as JMC. Journal, Mindmap (as I posted earlier), and calendar which was just a basic scheduling system. The basic gist was that I would plan the thing for a day, do the thing for a day via the MM, and then review the thing in the journal to test variations of said cognitive or behavioral ethology to then plan the altered version of said thing and repeat the cycle until the ungodly memeplex of US was born.
I am reasonably sure that the MM is completely learnable by anyone given the fact that I have had around six years practice and I am working on to make it accessible via VR app so people don't have to bother to learn how to exploit it in vivo.
What is bullshit though is that I sometimes play around with fractal 2.5 dimensional inputs, scaleless geometry, I even learned morse code and use it to encode even more possible sub branches. I also use the concept of sinstral and dextral via chirality in biochem to increase potential complexity and functionality.

Obviously thinking like this takes a certain degree of active concentration but I have noticed that I do dream in the framework of the MM quite often and that my acquisition of new information is semi automatically sorted into +y aka, the knowledge grid cube.
These metrics are a bit off though as I recently redefined my model of my own working memory and attention.

Taking out tumor-associated macrophages allows the immune system to target tumors
According to findings published earlier this month in Cancer Immunology Research, researchers from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai report a new means of counteracting therapeutic resistance in cancer cells: Take out their goons. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells can be made to target the tumor-associated macrophages that protect cancer cells from the rest of the immune system.
CAR T cells have been used to treat cancer before, but always by targeting the cancer cells themselves. Here, researchers found that targeting TAMs instead could produce an even more pronounced effect. TAMs usually infiltrate the tumor and physically block the channels that immune cells would otherwise use to enter and attack it. By taking out the TAMs, the CAR T cells allows the rest of the immune system to bring its weight to bear.
“Our initial goal was just to use the CAR T cells to kill the immunosuppressive macrophages, but we discovered they were also boosting tumor immunity by releasing this powerful immune-boosting molecule,” said study co-author Brian Brown. Dr. Brown is Director of the Icahn Genomics Institute.
Another co-author, Dr. Miriam Merad, pointed out that this new technique addresses a perennial problem in cancer treatment: “Our molecular studies of human tumors have revealed macrophage subsets present in human tumors and not in normal tissues and are similar across tumors and across patients. So macrophage-targeting CAR T cells could be a broad way to target different types of solid tumors and improve immunotherapy.”
The research team tested this process in an in vitro model of lung cancer and in vivo mouse models of lung, pancreatic, and ovarian tumors. In all cases, the CAR T cells infiltrated the lesions, blockaded PD-1, and destroyed TAMs without any toxic side effects.
