Inktober Days 22-24
Day 22: "Scratchy"
Tumblr media
Saguaro, cholla, prickly pear, pincushion, hedgehog, barrel cactus—how magical are these amazing plants? Iconic, unique, perfectly tuned to their environment. The pleats on a saguaro help it bulge and shrink to accommodate water availability, and the inhospitable trunks provide shelter for desert birds.
Saguaro NP produces some of my favorite educational videos in the system, thanks in part to Feature Fridays with Ranger Freddy Gutiérrez Fernández-Ramírez. Just to add to the scritchy-scratchy theme of this prompt, some of the more unusual videos featuring Ranger Freddy show how to remove jumping cholla barbs from your skin and clothes. Rangers in Saguaro carry hair combs in their first aid kits—and it’s not to fix flat-hat hair!
Day 23: "Celestial"
Tumblr media
In recent decades, park managers have come to recognize natural soundscapes and pristine night skies as tangible resources, just like clean air, land, and water. As I was entering the NPS field, a big effort was kicking off to designate certain units as Dark Sky parks, and Big Bend is the king of them all. It has the lowest levels of light pollution of any park in the lower 48 and is famous across the NPS for its breathtaking starscapes.
Protecting natural darkness opens up amazing new opportunities for visitors and rangers. I love assisting with night sky programs, because I remember how I felt when I first traveled away from the greater I-85 corridor and saw my first pristine night sky. It’s a primordial type of magic to see stars unveiled from urban lights and humid haze. And the good news is, unlike other endangered resources, dark skies are salvageable. When towns and cities take steps to reduce their light and air pollution, there’s no slow, agonizing recovery—the stars come right back. They’re just up there, waiting to peek at us again.
Day 24: "Shallow"
Tumblr media
I have to confess—I used to look down on Congaree, despite it being the only national park in my home state of South Carolina. I thought of it as muggy, buggy, and a bit boring. But when I was researching wetland habitat for A Field Guide to Mermaids, I was stunned to realize just how special this landscape is. Our country used to be covered in immense floodplain forests along river corridors, but the natural flood cycles that made these lowlands so fertile also meant the land was prized for agriculture. Rivers were straightened, forests were cut down, and the rich soil was planted with crops. Because of this, Congaree protects the largest swathe of bottomland floodplain forest left in the United States.
And it’s a gorgeous park, as well. There’s something evocative and eerie about walking the elevated boardwalks over tea-colored water. Spooky cypress knees reach up through the water like outstretched arms, and several massive national and state champion trees loom up out of the thick forest.
This park may not have the accolades some of the grander, more storied parks have, but I’m proud that it’s my home state’s park and glad that it protects one of the last intact forests of its kind.
------
Another big thank you to the folks who have preordered Thirty-One Days of National Parks: The Artbook! The Big Bend page features a little guide to starhopping from the Big Dipper out to other stars!

10: Time passes by
Underground visitor, gn reader x monster (male drider). Sfw. Previous Next
The next couple of days go slow as you wait for the return of the full moon.
The daily routine here is simple, and easy to fall into. Collecting water, managing the fire and cooking station, learning the quickest route to the surface to enjoy the sun, busying yourself with books you can’t yet read, joining Dren for ventures around the cave and idle talking along the way - since your visit to the marketplace, you've had some better opportunities to keep yourself occupied down in the dark.
It also serves as a nice distraction to go about your business like this, so that you don't have to think too much about what transpired at the lake. The lingering awkwardness from that encounter makes it difficult to look Dren in the eye sometimes.
He’s away a lot of the time, thankfully. He’s slept a lot more than usually the past couple of days, sometimes in the pod above yours, sometimes somewhere else, supposedly close to his eggs. You chalk it up to the fact that he’s still healing – perhaps having a few days at home where nothing is happening has allowed him to rest more fully than before.
Still, when present, Dren acts as he usually does, occupying himself with work around the cave, tending to his eggs or helping you get better settled in. He’s started a new project of weaving you something to actually sit on, so you have some level of comfort whenever you're using the living room - even if you're not entirely sure how long you will stay after you've talked to the harpy.
A slight change, however, is he's been more apprehensive when approaching you. Like he suddenly has to be more careful. His usual focus on you comes interrupted, and he's limited the amount of times he touches you, much to your chagrin. You've respected his apparent unspoken request for space, though it leaves you to deal with chasing out the constant pressure in your chest on your own, and it is not easily ridden of.
As infuriatingly stubborn as the one who most likely put it there. Hopefully, your next trip will help you figure out what to do about that little feature as well.
Waiting for the full moon is like a countdown toward the unknown, and the days have passed in relative peaceful stillness. Tonight the moon will finally be full, which means today may be your last one here.
It’s sunny out, so you’re taking advantage by spending most of your time at the entrance of the cave. The wind blows gently through the leaves of the trees above, cool temperature nibbling at your skin. Sometimes a stray dead leaf falls in your path, announcing the seasonal change. It's just you, the wind and some birds chirping somewhere from high above you. It's peaceful here - it's been some time since you've been in a place that was just comfortably quiet like this.
But you’re not just here to listen to birds calling - you’ve started your own little project as well. In your hands is a small pouch with assorted flower seeds you got from the marketplace, and in front of you a little plot you’ve cleared to plant them. Dren is still sleeping, so you’ve got some time for yourself to work on this.
It’s something nice to do for him as a thank you. He’s been a vital piece in ensuring your survival here, after all, in more ways than one - even while he’s asleep. You glance at the web running underneath your feet, spun to accommodate your time outside and your need for sunlight. If anything but you disturbs them, Dren’ll know. Even when not around you, he’s still making sure you’ll be alright.
You smile at his overprotective nature – but, admittedly, it does feel a little safer out here when you’re in contact with his alert system.
You stretch your sore, cold fingers and breathe hot air on them to get some of the chill out. Autumn is certainly not the best timing for this objective, but now is the time you’ve got for sure to do this. You’ll have to chance it. You're working with the cold ground for things to settle and hopefully start sprouting come spring - if anything, Dren will have a new hobby to look into, and perhaps tell his offspring about.
It's nice to do simple things that feels like it will bring about something positive. Something to leave behind and be remembered by.
You're engrossed with carefully placing small flower seeds in the ground, when you register a change in the air. The relative peaceful stillness you've felt has turned to utter silence. Why have the birds suddenly stopped singing?
A familiar piercing pain in your chest suddenly makes you gasp as your core tightens, answering your question. Perhaps the birds simply know when it's best to leave. The hairs on the back of your neck stands on end as it seems you're not alone out here anymore.
So much for some peace and quiet outside. It was good while it lasted. You breathe deeply, acclimating to the unpleasant feeling, and return the seeds to their bag. You slowly stand up in preparation for taking flight.
If you'd get that far, of course.
"I know you're there," you say, resigned, speaking out loud in their general direction. This might not be a smart confrontation, but you can't let them keep haunting you either. What's that saying about facing your demons? You'll have to remain on guard, but you know for a fact that, if your current stalker tries anything, the warning strings will alert Dren to their presence. "Go away."
The forest slowly parts with bushes rustling as a familiar shadow steps out from under their cover. Their brown spider legs part the leaves as they move – bit by bit, as if giving you time to adjust to their presence.
Morgan leans heavily against the trunk of a large birch, hand gripping it for support and staring at you. You can already feel your body freezing, heart rate picking up.
This is the first time since the fight you've seen them up close. Their appearance is no less striking than it was the first time you saw them, if not even more so no.
Their gangly body and uncanny features are seemingly heightened, the threatening aura of a cornered, injured animal. They're bruised and battered in much the same way as Dren, partially healed, but wearing a particularly nasty mark on the side of their jaw, and the beginning of scarring tissue from wounds running along their whole body.
They look haggard and spent, seemingly in pain, yet their striking red eyes are as intense and focused as ever. When they speak your gaze is drawn to their sharp teeth.
“Peace, sentry," they say gently, soft tone completely contradicting everything else. Their voice weaves through your mind, and settles over your overly active senses like an anesthetic fog. You’re almost happy to see them. "I’m not here to fight.”
You try to maintain eye contact, not letting yourself be intimidated by the red stare that sends your fight and flight over the edge. An odd standstill between running for your life, yet still yearning so badly to leap straight into their waiting arms. Are you relieved they’re alive? Your skin can still remember how warm they were, and it makes you nauseous.
Thankfully, you have a healthy amount of righteous vigor keeping you level-headed. You swallow hard to muster it. After all, this is a dangerous person who’s a threat to your existence.
"That's honestly surprising. If you're not here to fight, but just here to be creepy again, save your breath. I'm not interested in talking to you," you growl at them. "Leave me alone."
"Ah, but I think you are," Morgan replies, daring to step a little closer. They pause to assess the webs running underneath you, and place themself close, but without touching them. They chuckle lightly at your snark. "But no, I'm not here to be creepy either."
You don't move back at their approach, no matter if you might want to, holding the bag of seeds in front of you like a useless shield. It is not wise to give audience to someone who threatens your livelihood - and that of your host's and his children. You should turn away this instant, leave them behind and sever whatever they did to you here and now. Or at least try your best to do so.
“Then why are you here?” you find yourself asking instead.
“To make amends,” Morgan replies, lowering themself a little. “And talk a little about this thing we’ve got running between us.”
“There’s no thing-!”
Morgan suddenly leans forward in one quick motion, their face an inch away from yours, leaning over Dren’s webbing. Instead of flinching, you find yourself breathing out, finally feeling the tightness in your chest calm immensely. It’s like an instant relief to a panic attack. You almost lean your forehead against theirs to bask in the utter peace that has suddenly washed over you.
“Mmm, there we are,” they purr, chittering pleasantly. “Much better, isn’t it?”
Their drawling voice brings you back to reality, and rage flutters under your skin. You reel back, and knock your forehead against their nose in blunt retaliation.
Morgan recoils with a startled hiss.
You grasp your forehead and wince. Maybe not your smartest approach - they have a surprisingly sturdy face.
“You're being creepy,” you snarl, rubbing the sore. “Again.”
They grasp at their nose, red eyes focusing on you curiously. Then they laugh, an unnerving low chortle. “The longer you push me away, the worse it’s going to get, you know.”
“The un-do it!” you demand.
“Then you will have to let me get close,” they say patiently, casually settling down in front of you, calmly folding their legs. The fucking audacity. “Very close.”
“Not a chance,” you huff. “Think of something else.”
“I’m afraid there isn’t anything else, sentry," they shrug, weaving their hands in the air like curling a finger around a string. When they do a small tug, you can feel it, jutting you forward just a fraction before you can stop yourself. They obnoxiously send you a knowing look.
"Knock it off," you grunt, leaning back again.
"I can't. This little string of fate has us thoroughly connected, whether you accept that fact or not. We will keep this little dance until one of us dies.” Morgan peers at you with a casual expression. “I’d rather prefer if none of us die, you know? It’s more or less the whole point of this arrangement.”
"You just said you could un-do it!" you argue.
"I can un-do that it will get worse," they clarify. "It goes away when you let me close, doesn't it? Why not just let me? Then we'll both be better off."
“Better off? You're kidding, right?" you ask, incredulous. "Nothing good could ever come out of this. I don’t even know you! If it's terrible now, I don't even want to think how bad it could get."
“If we stick together, it won't,” they reassure you.
"Yeah, I don't really believe that at all," you deadpan. "This is some sort of weird magic manipulation, isn't it? I'm not gonna get close to you again in a million years. Whatever the hell you did to me hurts."
Morgan pauses for a second. They have the grace to actually look a little regretful of that fact. "I know it does, sentry," they sigh. "It goes both ways, after all."
You frown. "You're in pain too?"
"More so than from just my injuries." They jest, though their smile comes a little forced with thinly veiled frustration. "Do you have any idea how difficult it is to resist every single nerve in my body on fire, because I need to be close, and you. Just. Won’t. Let. Me?"
"You did that to yourself," you sneer, unsympathetic. "And you forced me in on it too."
"You would have been snatched if I hadn't," Morgan counters. "I was making sure you wouldn’t be. I didn't get to do so properly, and here we are. This is not a proper bond, it’s just some sort of painful connection that wants to be completed. I can solve this. It would be so easy, if you'd just let me."
"Why are you so obsessed with this?" you ask. "I know you could just end this if you wanted. If this is hurting you too, why not just get rid of me? I’m right here.”
"Probably for the same reason you haven't called for the other one to come get rid of me," Morgan replies, nodding to the protective warning threads you're standing on. They flash you a fanged smile. "I'm right here, too."
You grit your teeth.
"You can't, can you?" Morgan hums teasingly, eyes full of warmth. "You - don't want me to get hurt."
Don't you?
All it would take is a little shaking of the thread that's running right underneath your feet. One simple movement, and this would all be over. Morgan is challenging your resolve - your ability to refute what they're saying. You want them gone, and yet the nerves controlling your arms are simply not responding to your mind's command to move.
Unless you're not even trying? It's hard to tell.
"Don't worry," they continue softly at your silence. "I don't want you to get hurt either. Even if it is taking all of my strength to not immediately get you out of there, and make a run for it."
“What’s stopping you?” you grunt.
“He is,” Morgan hisses, scowling toward the entrance of the cave.
“Make sense. He sure showed you last time."
Morgan shakes their head. “No, sentry. I’m not worried about me. I’m afraid he will hurt you if I don’t get you out of there properly, and in time.”
What is that supposed to mean? “Hurt me? The only one who's hurt me here is you. What the fuck are you talking about?”
Their eyes narrow. “He’s spinning that web, is he? Keeping you in the dark? Someone in their right mind would have connected with you by now. I do wonder what in the blue moons is stopping him. He must be in pure agony to spend so much time around you. Fighting himself all the time.” They chuckle. “Good.”
You haven’t thought of that, you reluctantly admit.
“So why does he do it?” Morgan continues, focusing on you. “Especially if - does he have eggs? Cave dwellers like him usually do.”
Why on earth would they ask - your eyes widen just a fraction at the realization. Would that knowledge be advantageous to them? They wouldn't ask if it wasn't.
They chuckle at your expression giving it away. “He does, doesn’t he? And not even hatched this time of year. So vulnerable, aren’t they?”
You resist the urge to angrily invade their space at the comment, settling for a venomous glare. “Don’t you dare threaten them,” you growl defensively. “They’ve got nothing to do with all of this.”
They smile a little wider, like your fury made them giddy. “Of course not! Just curious. But especially so, what you’re doing here is simply baffling.”
“Well, good thing our relation doesn't concern you,” you sneer. A memory flashes in your mind, Dren’s entire body curled around you, a warm breath on your neck, idling hands on your skin and his insatiable need to be closer – you mentally fight it off like you’re scared Morgan can see it.
“Oh, but it does. Your relation is the very thing I’m concerned about,” they argue, obviously not noticing your cerebration. “We’re solitary, sentry. We don’t hold affections for things we’re not connected to. Your kind being the only exception - but it requires you give your heart. I just wonder how much longer he can keep this up before he cracks, and simply kills you.”
Well now. Isn't that the statement of the year? “Bullshit. He would never do that.”
Would he? He'd kill anyone else without a second thought.
The faintest doubt runs through your mind, and you know for sure it isn't yours. But Morgan catches the little insecurity of your statement regardless, and smiles like they intend to use it as kindling for a wildfire.
“Isn’t it odd how much faith you’re putting in him this quickly? I suppose we are good at making you feel safe. But what has he done to earn your trust?” they inquire.
You look at them, unimpressed. “He saved me from you.”
“He didn't save anything. He’s just made sure we’re both on a road towards an unimaginable amount of pain,” Morgan corrects you, not acknowledging your quip. “It looks like he tried to do good, but really, he only did what any other of our kind would do. I know how we work, sentry, and we’re nothing if not selfish," they chuckle. "And now, he doesn’t even make sure you’ll be safe from himself? What a poor excuse for a caretaker. The only thing he did was creating a loss.”
A loss? You relation with Dren is anything but. Having him in your corner has been a stability you've severely needed in your current dangerous situation. What the hell does Morgan know about what’s safe?
This is one of those mind-games a person like Morgan would utilize to get what they want. You’re sure as hell not going to let them manipulate you again.
“You can’t honestly expect me to believe anything you say, can you?” you ask.
Morgan has the gall to heave an exasperated sigh, as if they genuinely don't understand what could possibly justify your mistrust.
“I'm fearing for your life, sentry. You could die, and I'm trying to prevent that. You know, since I have a very high risk of literally dying without you. So, I would do well to be truthful here, wouldn’t I?" they pause for a bit, letting their words settle with you. "But even if he manages for now, it will still be the same result. He'll kill you come winter anyway,” they add nonchalantly.
You shouldn't give in to them. You shouldn't let them inform you of things and plant seeds of doubt in your mind, you know they're just telling you this to do just that.
Still, you can feel how the thoughts are growing despite your best attempt to pull them out like weeds.
You huff, deciding reluctantly to hook yourself on the bait. "Why?"
They focus on you intently. "If you're still with him when he's about to enter hibernation, and you are not bonded? His hazy mind will not be able to recognize you from an actual threat. He will kill you without hesitation."
You stare at them, trying to discern if they're speaking nonsense or lying to your face. Morgan holds your eye, perfectly serious expression trying to convince you that they, most certainly, are not.
"I, on the other hand, am already connected to you," they continue. "If you want to survive, you should stay the winter with me.”
"Yeah, nope. Absolutely not. Besides, I'm not gonna be here for the winter," you counter, shaking off their warning. "So that won't be a problem."
That piques their interest. "Oh? Where, pray tell, might you be going, then?"
Oh. You scramble to find an appropriate answer, but it's already too late. Morgan spotted your minuscule falter the second it was there. Judging from their humored look, they're already aware you were preparing a lie.
"It's none of your concern," you settle for. No point in even trying, then.
"But I want it to be," Morgan says gently, casually twirling the invisible string in the air. You feel queasy. "You can tell me, it's alright. I'm very good with secrets. Trust me."
Guess it wouldn't hurt to let them know.
"Well, I'm not-" you halt yourself with an odd choke, clasping a hand over your mouth.
What the fuck?
Morgan regards you with a calm smile. "It's alright, take your time. What were you about to say?"
You flinch back. You should have left them in your dust the second you sensed them here. Why the hell are you still talking to them?
Morgans stands up, a little slower, reaching toward you. "Easy sentry, calm down. Come here. I need to tell you something."
And you do. You stop yourself from turning away, reluctantly remaining on the spot and staring back at them.
They stop in front of you, barely on the edge of the protective webs running below you, easily within an arms reach. They could grab you and run if they wanted to, yet you don't disengage.
They lean close again, and the ache in your chest almost vanishes. You take a deep breath, listening to their calming chittering.
Morgan breathes deeply as well. "Perhaps I should give you some time to think on our conversation," they say softly. "I'm patient, don't worry. Eventually, you'll come to me."
"In your dreams," you whisper, halfheartedly in defiance.
"What a wonderful idea," they whisper back, gently reaching up and cupping your face.
You shiver as their eyes burn into yours, feeling the warmth from their hands setting off the nauseating crawling sensation underneath your skin. It’s like something inside you is writhing, squirming, an effort to get closer to Morgan’s heat, pulling you with it. Why do they smell like blood?
"Listen carefully," they urge, voice low, speaking through gritted teeth. You can hear a scratching noise from their legs clawing at the ground. "The longer you push this, the crazier both of us are going to get. The further we go, the more unbearable this pain. What you're doing right now could kill us. So do both of us a favor, and make up your mind to just love me. We're not moving on without each other, no matter what we do now."
You muster enough disdain to tightly grasp at their wrists, yet you can't tear their hands from your face. You can't look away. "Love you? What does love have to do with any of this?"
"Love is a monster that could crush you, and you need to learn to trust that it won’t," Morgan whispers. "No matter who of us you go to, it will be the same. There will always be a price. But they will differ. You just have to decide which one you want to pay. Do you want to die, or be loved?"
How do you respond to that? Morgan holds your eye for a few seconds, before sighing, and leaning back, hands falling down their sides as if in defeat. Their face contorts in pain when your palms leave their skin.
"I'll be around, sentry. I'll know if you need me," they promise.
With that, Morgan swiftly ducks back into the forest and vanishes in between the trees. You silently watch them go, resisting your body screeching at you to follow.
Later in the day, that urge has not gotten easier to ignore.
You've tried everything you could think of to rid yourself of that maddening little thing tugging inside of you, going as far as trying to manifest the 'string' in your mind, and cutting it with a knife. It doesn't work, of course. It stubbornly keeps its hold on you.
Your first thought was to inform Dren what happened, yet it's nearly impossible to get the words out to him. His warning of what might happen should Morgan come close again echoes in your mind, and you find yourself unable to speak, your voice tied to a knot.
Dren could end this. He's shown to be the superior fighter between them. You need only ask, and this whole thing would go away, and you wouldn't have to feel like this.
But you can't. You can't do anything that would put them in harms way.
But you can't go to them either. They would never let you go again, and you don't belong here. It doesn't take a genius to figure that Morgan most certainly wouldn't give two cents about where you came from. Their mind is firmly set on you being their salvation, the one who can finally give them a reprieve to the horror their kind face in this world. And the horror you would have to endure without them, lost to the trenches to be forever hunted and shunned.
This is your home here, the only option you have. Let them provide it.
The wooden spoon falls to the floor from your shaking hands, and startles you back to awareness with its clatter.
The stewing pot in front of you fills the living room with a pleasant savory aroma as you curse, shaking off some boiling water that hit your hand at the fumble.
You sense movement behind you, and don't need to turn and look to know Dren is there, likely alerted by your outburst. He seems to have adjusted to your rhythm, and frequently joins you whenever you're about to eat or sleep.
"Are you alright?" he asks, leaning down close to pick up the spoon and hand it to you. One of his legs brush against your side as he moves. "Did I startle you?"
"No, it's not you. I'm just clumsy today. Thanks," you add, taking it from him. "Guess I'm still a little rattled about all of this."
Dren considers you for a second longer than he has to, standing close. It occurs to you how tired he looks, his long hair unruly and heavy bags under his eyes. You hold his gaze for a moment, suddenly unsure which one to look into. You breathe out silently when he eventually moves back with an affirmative nod.
"How was your day?" he asks casually, grasping the wall to pull himself up. He's heading toward the storage space he utilizes for weaving materials. The chair project is coming along nicely.
Tell him what happened.
"It was alright," you sigh. "Just did some gardening. I'm not sure if anything's going to blossom, though. It's kinda the wrong season to plant stuff."
He joins you on the ground and shrugs. "If it's enjoyable to you, I don't see why you shouldn't give it a try. In any case, it's not time or effort wasted if you liked it."
"Guess not. I planted a lot, though," you warn. "If it works, I hope you like gardening."
“I will learn,” Dren chuckles. “I’m still grateful you wish to create something for me.”
He settles next to you with his project in hand, calmly resuming his weaving. You fidget with the spoon in your hands.
"How are the eggs?" you ask after a beat, mouth dry. The silence is getting to you.
"They're fine," Dren replies, eyes on his work. The twigs and straw in his hands are twisted and turned in a steady rhythm, expertly woven together. "Good, actually. Progressing as they should, and safely tucked in as needed. I'm looking forward to finally meeting them all at spring." He smiles, obviously excited. You find some peace in that expression, his genuine warmth doing wonders for your current state of mind.
"I bet you're a great parent," you note. "You always seem so happy when you talk about your kids."
"Well, I try to be," he says, sheepish at the praise. "They deserve a better chance for what's in store for them. I'm happy if I can provide that for them."
Stillness again.
You look him over, casually sitting where he usually does, focusing on the task at hand. It's hard to decipher if he's trying to distract himself from interacting with you too much. Even harder to decipher whether it would be okay to simply not let him. He must be in pure agony.
You should tell him. You should really, really tell him what happened outside. You should let him end this torment.
You pour yourself some food, and sit down to eat. You dinner suddenly isn’t as enticing.
"You're shaking," Dren notifies you quietly, still not looking up from the straw in his hands.
His front legs are settled with claws in touch with the patterns in the floor, and you surmise that's how he could tell without looking at you.
Your stomach drops. Of course he’d know something was up. Hell, he knows when you need fresh air before you do sometimes. The awkward distance he keeps does not make this any easier.
"I know," you mutter, putting your supper aside. Your appetite has vanished.
"Is there anything I can do to help?" he asks.
"Well, you could stop avoiding me."
It came out a little more snappy than you'd imagined it would, if the way Dren looks up at you in surprise is anything to go by.
"I'm sorry," you sigh, pinching the bridge of your nose. "It's just-"
You falter, not sure how to approach this. There's not much else to it. It's just this gaping hole in your heart that makes you feel completely and utterly alone, tearing at you to alleviate it. And now not even Dren has been helping you with that, not since you approached that dangerous area of closeness.
He gets up and joins you next to the fireplace, settling down heavily. Suddenly having the hybrid arachnid in your space like this again, you cannot help but feel a little small.
"Just-?" he encourages.
"I'm in a lot of pain right now," you admit, scooting back to give him some space. "And I'm not sure how to handle it."
Dren frowns, and slowly leans toward you. He carefully grasps your chin to turn your face as if looking for damage. "Are you hurt?"
"Not exactly," you mutter, leaning into his palm. You can feel the soft glow of his energy ebbing beneath his skin.
He gently nudges you to get you to look him in the eye. You're met with a sudden stare so intense it borderline shocks you. Dren brushes a thumb over your cheek like a silent apology.
"It's them, isn't it?" he asks directly, calmly.
You hesitate, and perhaps that's answer enough in itself. His eyes darken, and it sets off a subtle fear in the back of your mind.
"I do understand the effect we can have on each other," Dren says, measured. "I'm not as foolish as to believe they will give up that easily, not after what happened on our last trip. Did they approach you again?”
You force yourself to nod.
Dren chitters. “And you did not tell me?"
"I couldn't," you reply. "I don't know - I just couldn't."
"What did they say to you?" he inquires. He has that same calculating look on his face he did the first time you met.
The words are stuck in your throat. You cough, stuttering it out. "They said you'd kill me."
He stares like you've just purposely lit his den on fire. He releases your chin, balling his fists, supposedly to keep himself from accidentally squeezing you.
"And you believe them?" He asks, but it sounds borderline like an assumption.
"Of course not!" you protest. "I don't believe anything they tell me. I know they're manipulative and dangerous."
"Then why are you protecting them?" he demands. "I've told you this threatens me and my young, too."
You can sense his tension, lower body chittering, black eyes rooting you to the spot. And it now comes to you why Morgan would warn you. Dren is just as dangerous as they are. What happens if this giant predator decides you’re not worth the risk to keep around anymore?
This is one of the very rare moments you get to see him angry. Angry with you. That's somehow the worst thing of this.
"I'm not -," you falter. "I'm trying not to. But I can't stop it. No matter what I do, it just does not go away."
His eyes narrow, and you can hear him clawing at the ground, agitated. He stands up with purpose.
"When did you last see them?" he asks.
"What are you going to do?"
"When?" he repeats.
"This afternoon," you manage.
He frowns. "They may be long gone, then," he mutters to himself, considering for a moment. He chitters, having come to a decision. He eyes you. "Can I trust you to keep an eye on my home while I'm gone?"
"Of course you can," you assert, borderline incredulous. That he'd even ask - this is the one thing you can do. "I don't want anything to happen to any of us either."
"Then you'll understand why I have to do this," Dren says. He looks sad all of a sudden. "I don't want to cause you further pain. But I will not hesitate for the lives of my children. I need you to understand that."
He leans down close, pausing as you slightly flinch at the approach. His eyes widen, seemingly finding something in your expression. He carefully puts his hands on your shoulders as if to take you in again, letting you draw strength from his heat.
"If you wish for us all to live peacefully - Fight them," he utters with a drawling hiss. "Please."
"I'm trying," you say, putting your hands on his chest. "I'm sorry."
Dren sighs, look softening. "It's not your fault."
He gently releases you, but you don't miss the way his expression shifts to that of cold ruin as he turns away from you. He dashes down the hallway and out of view, leaving you to deal with your heart-rate increasing tenfold on your own. You have to support yourself with a hand on the wall to keep from tumbling over from a sudden dizziness.
Dren will kill them.
He most certainly, no hesitation and without remorse, will kill them. If he finds them.
Good riddance, you try, but of course it doesn't work.
You quickly turn to climb to the view of the outside, staring out into the dark forest.
A few minutes pass.
It's blissfully quiet.
No gleaming eyes hiding in the gloom, not rapid footsteps, no snarls or hisses or fighting, and no deaths in your vicinity. It's just you, hidden beneath the rocks and soil in the dark.
You shouldn't be relieved, yet you are. Morgan's smart; they'd never stick around long enough for Dren to notice their presence or get the jump on them. Seems they indeed were just here to talk. Still, their mere presence has set a heavy burst of discord into your relative peace. It dawns on you that this might just be what they’d come here for.
It's very late when Dren finally returns.
You almost jump out of your skin when he does - you'd been wandering the spaces between the rooms you frequent and keeping an eye out on the tunnel to the surface as promised. You'd taken a turn back to the living room and suddenly he was just there, quietly towering over you.
"Jump-scare," Dren recalls, palms out as if to help steady you from a distance. There’s leaf litter stuck in his hair. He must have gone fast. "Apologies."
You suck in a breath and curse. "Yep. Got me good.”
He seems a lot calmer now, at least. And more importantly, unscathed, and not covered in blood.
You’ve also had some time to come down from the spat and the subsequent fear that followed it. This is just Dren. Of course you can have disputes with him like a normal person. Morgan has just been feeding you unneeded paranoia.
You dare step a little closer, looking up at him. You almost feel silly for asking. “How are you feeling?"
Dren sighs, and settles down in front of you. A peaceful gesture. "I got some time to clear my head."
"Did you find them?" you ask.
"No,” he huffs. “It was a fools errand. I knew it would be, but I had to try. I suppose I needed to feel like I was doing my job."
"You are," you placate, joining him on the ground. You resist the urge to lean into him. "I'm sorry I've been making so much trouble for you."
He shakes his head. "I'm sorry I frightened you."
"I can survive a jumpscare," you jest, waving it off.
He smiles sadly. "Not that. Before. When I lost my temper, you looked at me much the same way you did the night we met. I didn't like it."
"You had every right to be angry, Dren. I was putting us all in danger."
"You had a conversation with the person who's manipulating your heart, and you're trying to fight them off by yourself," he says. "I just didn't realize how strong their grip had gotten."
It sure has, hasn’t it? It is getting harder to ignore. You huff. “I can still feel it. Even now, it just hurts.”
Dren chitters lowly. “All the more reason to put an end to it.”
"But they said there’s no undoing whatever this is,“ you note. “Dren, you have the same magic, don’t you? Do you know if there’s anything I can do?"
He considers for a moment, idly opening and closing his hands. As if summoning his own ability to feel for solutions. "I'm afraid not. If it works like normal, then until they perish, it will be like this. Unless-" He pauses.
"Unless-?"
"Usually, creating a new bond would overrule the feeling of the previous one. I’d assume it would be the same in this case, even if this is different."
You nod. "Overrule - but wouldn't remove it?"
"I don’t know. Nevertheless, we both know why that solution isn't a good thing for you to pursue," he says, fidgeting. “Otherwise, you know I’d offer in a heartbeat.”
“And I’d accept,” you shrug.
You can feel Dren’s lower body shifting as he turns to stare at you. You opt for looking at the fireplace to avoid his gaze.
“Is that so surprising?” you ask.
“Yes? No-” he flounders. “I had a feeling you’d consider it at least. But hearing that out loud is – different.”
You give in to the temptation, and simply rest against Dren’s side to show him you mean it. Immediately his warmth alleviates some of the unsettling pressure. You still feel his eyes on you, though a leg curls around where you’re sitting, a hand coming to comfortably rest on your arm. Seems he’s still alright with this.
"It's the full moon tonight, isn't it?" you say.
Dren nods.
"Then tomorrow-"
"We’ll find out if that’s to be your last day here,” he finishes, pedipalps fidgeting. He gives your arm a reassuring squeeze. “You should not hesitate if it is. I'm certain not even this little parasite can follow you to a different world."
Supposedly not. You briefly wonder if it will hurt to go back.
Dren’s presence makes you wonder how it will hurt in more ways than one.
You feel his body relaxing, and you enjoy his company in mutual silence for a bit, just appreciating sitting close to him again. Why is he indulging now of all times? Perhaps he needs the reassurance as much as you do.
Still, you should probably discuss it, instead of making assumptions. Acting like an adult for once.
You nudge Dren’s side to regain his attention. "About what happened at the lake-"
Dren halts his mental retreat to carefully glance at you. "Yes?"
"Are we going to - you know. Talk about that?"
He hums. "We could."
"Would you prefer not to?"
"Oh, most certainly," he nods sagely.
You bark a laugh. So much for acting your age. "Yeah. Me too, bud."
He chuckles. "It is a little - challenging, for me. Having you here. More so than I expected. We’ve already discussed why it would be."
"I know. But that - that wasn't just about the bond thing, was it?"
"Not necessarily. Perhaps? I don’t know. I just wanted to be close to you,” he says. He eyes you, a slight smile on his lips. “And I sensed you didn’t mind.”
You snort and purposely bump into his side. “The water was very cold, and you are very warm. Easy math.”
“I’m happy you find my temperature comfortable,” he jests.
“Does that mean this is still okay?” you ask, gesturing vaguely at your sitting together. “You’ve been avoiding touching me at all since that night. I was wondering why.”
He sighs. “Having you close only to release you time and time again is – not always easy. Especially considering, eventually, that one time I do, it will be for the last time.”
“Oh,” you say. You can’t really say much else. He’s right. You shouldn’t push this on him if he finds it easier to simply not engage and spare the turmoil.
“But that’s very silly of me, isn’t it?” he mutters, mostly to himself.
“Is it?”
Dren leans against your side, a pedipalp curling around your waist. “Perhaps I should just enjoy this while I can.”
You lean back into him, breathing out in relief. The clawing sensation within you diminishes, pushed aside by the gentle ebb of Dren’s energy settling through you in it’s stead. “This helps, actually. With the pain.”
“Does it?” he yawns. “I’m glad. And it might go both ways. I’m about to fall asleep, I think.”
You chuckle. “You've slept a lot lately.”
“We’re steadily progressing through autumn. My body’s slowing down,” he shrugs, settling against you. “I’ll be asleep for good soon.”
And then he won’t be able to recognize you from an actual threat.
"What should we do, then?" you ask, forcing it to the back of your mind. You close your eyes and relax to the sound of Dren’s breath, his company calmly thwarting the idle sickness growing inside you.
Dren rests his head on top of yours. "I'm going to help you find a way home."

Excerpt from this story from Grist:
When the Racetrac chain of convenience stores was deciding whether to install electric vehicle chargers, project lead Rushi Patel started with a blank Excel sheet and a lot of questions. Did the financials make sense? Where is the best to install them? What features should they have? The answers to questions like these could go a long way toward establishing an economic argument for building out America’s public EV charging infrastructure.
“We found our guests using new types of fuels, like electrons, and we wanted to be with them as part of that journey,” said Patel, the diversified energy manager at Metroplex Energy, a subsidiary of Racetrac. But he was clear that it’s important to have an offer that does make money.”
Patel slowly started to populate his spreadsheet in 2021, filling cells with EV adoption rates, utility prices, construction costs and a range of other metrics. He also took the company’s executives on a two-hour tour of charging spots in Atlanta, where Racetrac is based. One was tucked behind a shopping plaza, the other was deep within the bowels of a mall garage. It was clear to them that Racetrac could do better.
Two years later, Racetrac installed its first Level 3 fast charger in Oxford, Alabama — complete with the company’s logo and a canopy to shade people from the sun as they pump electrons. It has since opened seven more in three states. So far, he said, “[the business model] is holding up pretty well.”
Those eight chargers are among the 61,000 that blanket the country, a figure that has more than doubled since 2022. The increase comes as mounting evidence shows EV charging stations can be a boon to businesses, and not only by selling electricity.
A recent study in the journal Nature Communications looked at chargers in California and found that, pre-pandemic, businesses saw an average annual boost of $1,500 when at least one of the devices stood nearby. Another paper examined Tesla Supercharger installations nationally and saw they brought a 4 percent increase in visitors to a business. The effect was particularly pronounced if the chargers were within 500 feet, and if it was the first one in the area. This boon is due to the fact that it can take 30 minutes or more to fully charge an EV, giving drivers plenty of time to shop.
“The places that tend to get the biggest bump, is the place that aligns with how long it takes you to charge your car,” said Gordon Burtch, an author of the paper and a professor of information systems at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business. “Sit-down restaurants aren’t benefiting as much as fast-food restaurants.”

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II launches February 14, 2025 in the west - Gematsu
Tumblr media
The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II will launch for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG on February 14, 2025 in the west, publisher NIS America announced.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II is currently available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Switch in Japan and Asia, as well as PC via Steam in Asia.
Here is an overview of the game, via NIS America:
About
No longer threatened by the mafia organization Almata, the people of Calvard have returned to their peaceful lives. But one day, a shocking series of murders involving a mysterious crimson beast sets the wheels of fate in motion once again. Various factions spring into action – both those who abide by the law to uncover the truth and those looking to capitalize on any new developments wherever possible, no matter how sinister. With chaos once again looming on the horizon, the spriggan Van Arkride receives an unexpected visitor, prompting his own investigation. Who is behind the murders, and what is their goal? The sands of time bring old and new faces together for this thrilling second installment in the Trails through Daybreak saga.
Story
Year 1209 of the Septian Calendar. The threat posed by Almata has passed. Peace has finally returned to Calvard. And, for a time, that peace goes uninterrupted—until a CID special forces unit is slaughtered by an unknown assailant. With authorities working to contain the situation, criminal forces take the chance to make their own moves. Meanwhile, a spriggan by the name of Van Arkride begins his own investigation—after prompting from an unexpected visitor. Who could be responsible for this massacre? What was their objective? And how does it all relate to Agnes’ search for the eighth Genesis? A crimson beast’s roar. A chance meeting with a boy and girl, both embroiled in a mysterious search. These are the circumstances that lure Arkride Solutions down the trail of an inescapable fate.
System
Battle System – The game builds on the seamless transition between field battles and command battles introduced in the previous game with new mechanics that can be used in both: Cross Charge & EX Chains! Mastering the use of these two combo mechanics can provide you with overwhelming firepower to use against your opponents.
Cross Charge – If you manage to Perfect Dodge an enemy’s attack during a field battle, the Cross Charge icon will appear! Pushing the correct button while the icon is on-screen will swap in another party member, who will simultaneously execute a charge attack on your foe! As a bonus, the party member that you swap in will have enhanced attack power for a period of time.
EX Chains – EX Chains can be activated by fulfilling specific conditions during command battles. Once these conditions have been met, using a craft or normal attack against a stunned enemy will automatically activate an EX Chain! This allows party members with SCLM activated to launch a simultaneous attack that will also impact nearby enemies, dealing massive damage.
Choose Your Chapters – Van and his collaborators will not always travel together during the events of Trails through Daybreak II. At times, some of the group may split off in order to take care of tasks in different areas of Calvard concurrently. Because of this, each act contains multiple chapters you can play in any order. Progress the story in the order you choose! Each chapter features a different cast of characters as we see their side of the act’s story play out. Once you’ve completed your chosen chapter, the next one will start up automatically.
Unique Missions – Certain chapters will feature missions that utilize the unique skillsets of the characters in that chapter’s party. For example, directly controlling the holo core AI, Mare, to hack the orbal network, or using Swin to silently tail a suspicious individual.
Characters
Van Arkride – The man at the head of Arkride Solutions. A lover of sweets, saunas, and orbal cars. Due to his job as a spriggan, Van has a tendency to take on legally-questionable jobs. However, the fact that he occasionally walks on the edge of the law does not preclude him from doing good by others—as is evidenced by his numerous personal contacts. While tracking down the Oct-Geneses at Agnes’ request, Van developed the ability to transform into an armored form known as the Grendel with the help of Mare, the holo core installed within his combat orbment. It was with this new ability that he was able to fend off the mafia group known as Almata. Having once terrorized the entirety of the Republic, Almata was eventually brought to its knees by the Arkride Solutions team during the fight for the Oct-Geneses. Upon the quelling of this threat, however, they decided to temporarily go their separate ways. Now left to himself in a less-than- lively office, Van is free to return to his lone-wolf lifestyle once more.
Agnes Claudel – A first-year at the prestigious Aramis Academy who currently serves on its Student Council. Despite her polite manner of speaking and at times meek demeanor, Agnes has shown great strength and determination while employed at Arkride Solutions—especially when facing off against the seedy underbelly of society. Agnes first met Van while searching for eight prototype orbments known as the Oct-Geneses, which she inherited from her great-grandfather. As thanks for taking on her request, she began working as one of Arkride Solution’s part-time assistants. At present, Agnes has recovered seven of the eight Geneses. Unfortunately, while continuing her search for the last remaining Genesis, she’s had no choice but to also divide her time between preparing for the Aramis Academy Festival and periodically helping out around Arkride Solutions. Regarding her relationship with Van, she both respects and admires him as her employer. However, she seems to be harboring some more amorous feelings for him as well…
Elaine Auclair – An A-rank bracer affiliated with the Calvard branch of the Bracer Guild. She is occasionally referred to by the moniker “Beauty’s Blade.” Due to her dignified beauty and masterful skill with a sword, Elaine tends to catch the eye of the media more often than not. Unfortunately, this also leads to talent agencies offering her contracts for modeling and acting—she always declines. Outside of being the poster girl for the Bracer Guild, Elaine has no present interest in joining the world of entertainment. During her high school years, she enjoyed a brief and fleeting romance with Van before he suddenly vanished without so much as a word. It was only recently, after seven years, that the two were able to reunite. Although their lingering feelings for each other have left their current relationship a bit tense, their time fighting Almata together was able to strengthen their bond once more. Some time after the events involving Almata and the Oct-Geneses, Elaine received word that the Central Intelligence Department’s elite Gamma Squad had been brutally murdered by an unknown assailant, and that a ‘crimson’ monster was spotted at the scene of the crime…
World
The Republic of Calvard – A large country located in the central region of the Zemurian continent. Its current leader is President Roy Gramheart. Due to the unfortunate circumstances created by the desertification of eastern Zemuria, Calvard has a substantial history of receiving both immigrants and refugees. The resulting mixture of cultures and ethnicities has made the country into something of a melting pot. One hundred years ago, Calvard was under the heel of its monarchal rulers. It was only after Sheena Dirke and her compatriots brought about a democratic revolution that the nation was transformed into a democratic republic. Though in constant conflict with Erebonia over the control of bordering regions, Calvard has recently been on the receiving end of reparations from the empire following the Battle of Jormungandr. These reparations enabled Calvard to enter a period of rapid growth and development, leading to its eventual overtake of Erebonia as the most powerful nation on the continent. Regarding the region’s recreational interests, recent technological advancements in orbal vehicles and filmmaking have caused a boom in both the motorsports and orbal cinema industries.
Messeldam – A moderate-sized city located in the north of Calvard. Due to its long-standing role as one of the Northern Sea’s major trading ports, Messeldam was often tasked during the days of monarchal rule with the delivery of imports to the capital of Oracion—along with fresh seafood, of course. Although the port remains active to this day, developments in airship technology have greatly diminished its significance. The city itself, however, remains an important gateway to Remiferia and its surrounding nations. Unlike Langport, Messeldam possesses very few tourist destinations. That being said, the townscape’s architecture tends to be quite popular with visitors, as its design has seen little change in the past century. The city’s Eastern and Central Eastern populations are fairly meager due to its geographical location. As such, it lacks a community that values cultural traditionalism. This has, fortunately, been a boon for Messeldam, as new art movements and customs are accepted with relative ease. It was this very attitude that led to the city serving as the venue for the Orbal Film Festival for a number of years, until its relocation to Tharbad in 1208.

In the Corridor
Tumblr media
[The corridor of the academy is sleek and modern, lined with digital displays and humming with the quiet efficiency of a highly controlled environment. JK505, still slightly disoriented from the recent conditioning, walks slowly, leaning slightly on 60CCD for support. His breath is steadying, but there's a hint of fragility in his steps.]
JK505: [Whispering to 60CCD] "Thanks for being here. It really helps."
60CCD: [Supportively] "Anytime, JK505. You did well. Just take it easy."
[As they walk, a group of visitors, accompanied by an instructor, rounds the corner and approaches them. The visitors, curious about the cadets and their experiences, pause to engage.]
Tumblr media
Visitor 1: "Excuse us, cadets. May we ask how you're feeling after your conditioning, JK505?"
[JK505 looks to 60CCD, who smiles reassuringly and takes the lead.]
60CCD: "JK505 is still a bit out of it, but he's doing fine. The conditioning process can be pretty intense."
Visitor 2: "Intense? In what way?"
[60CCD grins slightly, deciding to lighten the mood with some humor.]
60CCD: "Well, let's just say it's a good thing the suits have an integrated waste management system. JK505 here might have, uh, had an accident during the process. But don't worry, the chair he was clamped in took care of it."
Tumblr media
[The visitors exchange glances, a mix of surprise and curiosity.]
Visitor 1: "Really? That's... quite a feature."
60CCD: [Nods, still grinning] "Yeah, it is. The chairs are designed to evacuate any waste immediately. The data from the conditioning session is monitored closely, and it’s all available to other cadets as well. Keeps us all informed and prepared."
Visitor 3: "So you can see each other's data in real-time?"
60CCD: "Absolutely. It's part of our transparency and teamwork. We know what each other is going through, and we support each other. Like right now, I'm keeping an eye on JK505's stats to make sure he's okay."
Instructor: [Stepping in, nodding approvingly] "Our system fosters a strong sense of camaraderie among the cadets. They are not only trained to be effective individually but also as a cohesive unit, always looking out for one another."
Tumblr media
Visitor 2: "And how are you feeling now, JK505?"
JK505: [Steadies himself, offering a faint smile] "I'm doing better, thank you. The support from 60CCD and the rest of the team helps a lot. It’s all part of the process."
[The visitors seem both impressed and slightly uneasy with the level of control and transparency within the academy. As they move on, the instructor gives a final nod to the cadets.]
Instructor: "Carry on, cadets. And JK505, report to the medical bay if you feel any lingering effects."
JK505: "Yes, sir."
[As the visitors and the instructor walk away, 60CCD pats JK505 on the back.]
60CCD: "You handled that well. Let's get you some rest."

When Tax Collector was a profession in Dwarf Fortress
Today, if you dig secure lodgings your dwarves will live in an anarcho-communist society. Sure, you have nominal nobles such as Mayors, Barons and Monarchs, but all the dwarves have access to Fortress resources. However...
Long ago in the yesterday of 2007, nearly a year ago the first Alpha release of Dwarf Fortress has been uploaded to the Bay12 games website. No z-levels, no Artifacts and cats could adopt visitors to your fortress. And when you had appointed a bookkeeper and manager, the dynamic of dwarves would suddenly change...
Your fortress would suddenly go from to anarcho-communist to Capitalist. Dwarves would suddenly gain an account balance on their unit screen and hoard coins in their bedrooms, a new price menu would appear and shop would be available to build. In addition,
Dwarves would be paid salaries for producing goods (receiving a starting sum of ☼200 when the economy was activated.)
Dwarves would pay rent for rooms with higher quality rooms costing more.
The bookkeeper would demand the production of coins.
Nobles would change prices
Legendary noble dwarves didn't need to pay rent
Dwarves would be taxed from their belongings randomly
This neat little arrangement simulated a miniature economy. Dwarves who owned quality goods and better bedrooms would be happier, while dwarves who failed to do so...
she has been evicted lately (mood -10)
Tumblr media
Further, developments led to the economy being unlocked on the arrival of a Baron, Count or Duke.
Dwarves paid for rent and food. Dwarves strapped for cash bought poor-quality food and would go into debt to not starve.
Coin moving would take precious work time from dwarves as they carried out transactions and collected their salaries
More features only increased the chaos. It was found that producing coins would actually make the citizens finances worse as the time wasted performing transactions, led to increased debt and inevitably mass homelessness. And when I say nobles changed prices, if you thought mandates were annoying then:
Tumblr media
Dwarf Fortress's ever-ingenious players thus found themselves devising exploits strategies for preventing a tantrum spiral revolution kicking off whenever the aristocratic parasites barons arrived. These included intensive pumping regimes to quickly boost dwarves' skills to legendary and stockpile hauling cycles to provide easy and consistent employment.
The economy was disabled in 2010, but Toady One (Tarn Adams) has stated that he plans to reintroduce the economy in the future. Due to the unpopularity of its original implementation, it will not be without drastic changes. To this day players discuss possible models. I hope to see the dwarven economy again; imagine a tax collector doing the rounds every week. It would be nice if the value system was ironed out though.

[CN] Victor’s R&S: Between Silence (Eng Translation)
“Every choice he makes inevitably leads to the right path.”
Tumblr media
⌚ This post contains detailed spoilers for a R&S, 无声之间, that is yet to be released on the global server. ⌚
•─────⋅◍♡◍⋅─────•
[Subbed Video: Fully Voiced]
youtube
This R&S accompanies Victor’s S2 CH 41-44 karma.
Victor’s dialogue’s will be in bold and italics, and the others’ dialogues will be only in bold.
Tumblr media
【Chapter 1】
The events of the first three chapters took place when Victor was around 22-23 years old. They elaborate on the beginning of Victor and Ronan’s friendship.
A small recap for those unaware: Ronan is one of Victor’s closest friends. He was a young director looking for opportunities to start his career, and young Victor was just building up LFG back then. After proper evaluation, Victor invested in Ronan’s project. Ronan’s project later won several international awards, and with that, the still learning to walk LFG also got its first base for spreading its wings. Ronan later became a world-renowned director (the CANNES winner apparently), LFG became “LFG,” and Victor became “Victor.”
Ronan appeared in Victor’s Taste of Life MQ, Garden Date, and 5th Birthday Story, and was mentioned by Victor in the R&S Finally, We Meet Again. Victor and MC also discuss “Ronan x Victor” friendship in the S2 CH 41-44 call~
Tumblr media
Victor’s gaze was indifferently fixed on the only source of light in the dimly lit study room–– the movie playing on the computer screen. His face was partly illuminated by the flickering light, and he seemed a little lost in thoughts.
A few days ago, when Victor returned from a business trip to a neighboring city, he was stopped by a young man as soon as he stepped out of the taxi. He enthusiastically helped Victor retrieve his luggage from the trunk and immediately began “confronting” him in a familiar manner as if they had already known each other for a long time.
“CEO Victor, your company is not that large. Why do you still use an appointment system? It seems frivolous.”
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
Victor bowed slightly and took the suitcase back into his hands, not intending to pay much attention to the stranger’s rudeness. Although it hadn’t yet been three years since LFG was founded, it had already gained a reputation for its sharp and cutting-edge investment strategy. This visitor was not the first young person to show up uninvited.
“Moreover, I couldn’t find any way to book an appointment online. So I had no other option but to wait here patiently. It’s been five days already, but luckily, I finally managed to secure an appointment.”
Victor’s gaze toward him was crystal clear, indicating, “Let’s talk business.” But the young man seemed to be oblivious to the implied meaning.
“Ah… I understand. There must always be sales promoters swarming at your door, and that’s why you guys have this regulation, right?”
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
The space between Victor’s eyebrows knitted into a frown,
“Your behavior has served as a good example of the necessity of this regulation.”
Seeing that Victor was about to leave, the young man blocked his path with a grin on his face,
“Sorry about that. I tend to think in a scattered manner. Please don’t take offense, CEO Victor.”
Following this, he extended his hand toward Victor,
“Let me formally introduce myself. My name is Ronan, and I’m a film director. I have a feature-length movie script that I’ve been polishing for a long time, and I hope that LFG can invest in producing the film.”
Victor didn’t lift his gaze and simply dropped one word in a concise manner,
“Reason.”
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
“Although I don’t understand business, LFG is different from other companies. They have already shown their ambition to venture into other industries even in their early stages, which aligns with my aspirations.”
Victor detected a hint of arrogance in Ronan’s words that seemed to come from nowhere, and his brows furrowed slightly,
“What I’m asking is, why should LFG invest?”
Seeing the youth frozen in place, Victor walked around him and continued on toward the company. However, he had only taken a few steps when he suddenly heard a voice calling out to him from behind, “Wait a minute!” The young man ran up to him again, rummaged through his belongings, and finally handed a hard disk to Victor,
“My answer is in there.”
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
The hard disk contained nearly 20 short film works that Ronan had shot previously as practice pieces.
As the end credits of the last short film were displayed on the screen, a flicker of keen interest emerged on Victor’s previously impassive face. The short films, though, had some roughness and immaturity, but they couldn’t overshadow the unique talent of the creator. He got up and walked to the window, pulling open the heavy curtains. The gentle morning light filtered through the gauzy curtains and poured into the study. It turned out that without even realizing it, he had actually stayed up all night watching those clips.
Victor took out his phone and dialed a number,
“Prepare a report on the development of the film industry in the past five years.”
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
Tumblr media
In the afternoon of that day, an investment decision meeting was held in the conference room of LFG.
“Although there haven’t been any mistakes in CEO Victor’s decisions so far, the profits of the high-speed railway industry have only just begun to show. Given LFG’s current circumstances, it won’t be appropriate to hastily jump into a new industry.”
“A film production cycle is time-consuming, and even aside from the question of whether or not the investment will be profitable, it will take a long time for the money to flow back in. With LFG’s current financial situation, we likely won’t be able to afford this gamble.”
“While the policies may have become more favorable recently, it would still be unwise to stake our all in the investment of a single movie.”
….
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
This investment decision was seeing the most unified opposition since LFG was founded. However, everything that was happening now was well within Victor’s expectations. After listening to all the opposing views, he responded to everyone’s concerns with perfect composure.
“Currently, there is indeed not sufficient data to support this investment decision. The sole convincing factor is that every investment decision made by LFG in the past has yielded good returns. And I believe that this time will be no exception, although the process may be relatively long.”
“Aside from the budget sheet displayed on the big screen, I’ve already asked Goldman to send the script of this project and the director’s past works to everyone’s email. Perhaps the works will be more persuasive than my empty talk.”
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
“Rather than whether or not this movie will bring financial gains to LFG, I’d rather see LFG seize the right opportunity to set foot in the film industry. The film industry will soon enter a period of rapid development, and by grasping the current opportunity, LFG can establish a mutually beneficial relationship with the entire industry.”
Victor’s tone was unhurried and measured. But as it fell into the ears of the investors, it was akin to an indisputable judgment.
A few days later, the investment resolution for Ronan’s film project was approved by LFG.

【Chapter 2】
Tumblr media
Ronan’s first movie stirred a small sensation after its release, and after gaining recognition from many industry veterans, he grew rapidly at a breakneck pace. With the constant flow of inspiration, he created two more films in quick succession, while LFG continued to firmly occupy the top spot as the producer of his films since the beginning. When he was almost wrapping up the shooting for his third film, Victor received multiple invitations from Ronan to visit the set under the guise of “guiding the work.”
A faint sense of misgiving arose in Victor’s heart. Although Ronan had an unconventional personal style, as a director, he had always maintained enough professionalism and aesthetic sense and would not be swayed by the opinions of the investors. At that time, he happened to be on a business trip near the filming location and drove to the set on the outskirts of the city.
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
However, he wasn’t expecting to be greeted with the sight of Ronan exploding on the props team as soon as he stepped onto the set.
“The precondition of all you guys’ work here is to respect the film! Respect the audience! Your small mistake has directly caused five scenes to be re-shot, not to mention going over budget. Now the entire crew is spending extra time and effort to mend your error!”
Signs of anger loomed on Ronan’s face as if he was trying his best to restrain himself from smashing the script in his hand onto the other person’s head.
The Ronan in front of him was a far cry from the unconventional and unruly image he had in his memory, causing Victor to inevitably be a little flabbergasted. He stood there waiting on the side for quite a while until Ronan came rushing over.
“Ahh... sorry for making you wait! Would you like to have something to drink?”
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
“Water.”
Ronan wiped off his sweat and took Victor to the RV, where the director’s crew took a break. However, upon opening the freezer cabinet, nothing else was inside except cans of beer packed to the brim.
“Will this do?”
“...I drove here.”
As if oblivious to Victor’s speechless expression, Ronan put the beer back into the freezer and sat down opposite him in a carefree manner, gesturing animatedly with his hands.
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
“I had originally calculated the exact time and wanted you to witness the grand finale. But you also saw the situation just now. Things don’t always go according to the plans.”
“How do you plan to handle this situation?”
“We have no choice but to reshoot. But don’t worry, I’ll ensure we do it in the most cost-effective method possible. Rest assured, it won’t  go over budget.”
Ronan shrugged his shoulders in feigned nonchalance, but Victor’s keen perception picked up on the subtle traces of putting on an act in his tone.
“If the method you’re talking about is to film it all in one take using a long shot, then I suggest you ask for a budget increase from me.”
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
Hearing Victor’s words, Ronan was a bit taken aback and stared with widened eyes,
“Have you been taking film courses? How do you even know about cost-effective filming methods?”
“How much budget do you need for the reshoot?”
Seeing Victor’s serious expression, Ronan cupped his fist in the other hand, an expression of gratitude written across his whole face,
“About 3 million yuan. Thank you so much in advance, CEO Victor. You are the godparent of this film! I’ll definitely put your name at the top of the director’s acknowledgments!”
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
Victor remained stone-faced in the face of his teasing:
“No need. You may have misunderstood. For me, achieving the expected goal takes precedence over everything. Economizing the cost is only a small number, but compromising the quality of the film would affect the expected return on investment.”
Probably aiming to appease Victor’s concerns, Ronan gave him his sincere assurance,
“Don‘t worry. I won’t be careless with any of the shots.”
Not receiving a response from Victor, he took a brief pause and jokingly said,
“Hehe, do I need to win a major international award for you to have faith in me?”
Victor didn’t continue that conversation and left with the parting remark, “Make sure to not just talk the talk. Let me see your capability with the finished project.” But Ronan knew that Victor had faith in him.
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
Victor was just about to start the car when he heard a knock on the car’s right window. He turned to the source of the sound and saw Ronan outside the car, panting heavily, holding a bottle of water as if he had just run a great distance to reach him.
“Thanks.”
Victor took the water after opening the window,
“By the way, your acting skills are really poor. It’s best if you just stick to being a director.”
Despite being called out, Ronan remained unperturbed and smiled instead, resting his hand on the window frame,
“I’ve been dedicated to being a director all along. Earlier, when I mentioned winning an award, I was dead serious. So if that day ever comes, how about treating me to a drink at a bar, CEO Victor?”
•─────⋅◍♡◍⋅─────•
【Chapter 3】
Tumblr media
The film that Ronan had placed great expectations upon encountered a strong setback in the local theaters even before receiving the results of its entry into the international film festival. Due to the mismanagement in scheduling by the theaters, the film was forced to release earlier than planned. The marketing and promotion team was caught off guard, having no time to prepare, and many people were unaware that it had already been released. As a result, the film suffered from poor box office performance and received a lackluster public reception, which was not surprising considering the circumstances.
The following day, Victor was reviewing the box office prediction trend chart as he prepared in advance for LFG’s next weekly investment meeting. After the weekend drew its curtain, the film’s already disappointing performance experienced a sudden and drastic decline, reminiscent of a fall from the cliff. It seemed that the film’s box office failure had become inevitable. Recalling Ronan’s spirited demeanor when talking about his aspiration for the film winning awards, Victor decided to go and watch the movie to experience it firsthand.
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
Due to a scarce number of screenings, Victor could only manage to buy a ticket for a late-night show. By the time he walked out of the theater, it was already dawn, and he found himself to be the sole audience member in the entire screening in the empty cinema hall without the sight of any other viewers. Coincidentally, as Victor entered the elevator, the projectionist in charge of the screening happened to be getting off work and shared the elevator with him.
“Ah, the movie has a high level of artistic quality. It’s the best one he has directed yet. It’s a pity that it’s not commercial enough to make money.”
In response to the projectionist’s remark, Victor nodded politely and replied:
“Mm, it’s indeed remarkable. As for whether it’s a pity or not, each film has its track suitable for only itself.”
With a “ding” sound, the brief conversation came to an end as the elevator doors opened.
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
Just as he stepped out of the elevator, Victor’s phone in his pocket vibrated. He received an MMS from Ronan, containing a screenshot of an email confirming his film’s selection for the CANNES Film Festival. The message was accompanied by a grinning face emoji.
Just as Victor’s “congratulations” message was successfully sent, Ronan couldn’t contain his excitement and immediately called him,
“Reporters are all waiting in line to interview me. But I wanted to call you first. Isn’t that very thoughtful of me?”
Without waiting for Victor to respond, Ronan carried on excitedly,
“I’m actually booking my plane ticket right now. After the film festival wraps up, it’d be the perfect opportunity to reward myself with a long vacation! I’m planning to visit Île Saint-Honorat near Cannes. Ahh, the sunshine! The beach! The sea! I already can’t wait to melt away in the Mediterranean sea breeze!”
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
His irrepressible excitement flowed from the rising inflection of his voice.
“If I remember correctly, that e-mail was just to notify you that you’ve been nominated.”
“Being nominated is the first step to actually winning the award. When I get back, you better be ready to take out for a drink. I’m gonna need at least a whole case of beer.”
Ronan continued in a dissatisfied tone before Victor could respond,
“Come on? You’ve invested millions in me, yet it’s so difficult for you to treat me to a simple drink? Forget it, I’ll just…”
“Sure, we can have a drink. But since I’m the one treating, I’ll choose where we go.”
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
After hanging up the phone, Victor found several new emails expressing their interest in collaboration in his inbox, all from astute film and TV companies.
“It seems that tomorrow’s investment meeting will go smoothly,”-- Victor thought to himself. Although he didn’t hesitate when making the decision initially, he could not help but feel a sense of joy as the dust settled and everything fell in the right direction in the end.
As these thoughts circled his mind, Victor walked towards the vending machine outside the movie theater. He inserted a few coins, and moments later, a chilled can of beer dropped from the dispensing slot.

【Chapter 4】
Chapters 4 & 5 of the R&S cover the events between S2 CH 38-39. It begins with the scene after he had replaced the twelve main gods of BS, and the ending scene of the R&S, yes, is the “Stop time for me, Victor” scene of S2 CH 39 after clearing all split routes; the most crucial junction~
Tumblr media
The waning moon sinks into the dense clouds, and the night sky is bathed in a blurred, pale luminescence.
The comet remains suspended midair, framing the entire Loveland City in a treacherous and enchanting ambiance. The city has lapsed into a state of deathly stillness.
In the depths of the BS Hall, the cascading dark red curtains appear eerie and terrifying under the reflection of the thick, dark night. The central seat in the hall remains unoccupied. Numerous figures stand scattered throughout the hall, engaged in discussions. The sound of conversation fills the air, giving the impression that the main gods seem to be working intensely. Despite so, there’s an underlying current of restlessness and turmoil in the air.
As Victor descends the stairs, his composed footsteps draw the attention of the crowd, causing their gazes to converge on him in unison.
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
Victor walks towards Poseidon and asks,
“How is the progress?”
“We haven’t been able to reach Helios yet.”
Victor’s gaze sweeps across the faint golden arc of light beneath the hall’s dome. A thin layer of frost seems to settle on his face as he says,
“I hope I don’t have to emphasize once again how tight the time is.”
Poseidon nods and exits the hall. Another tall, short-haired youth swiftly walks up to Victor and says,
“BOSS, multiple calculations have consistently proven that our estimated countdown time is indeed relatively accurate, with an error margin that can be kept within 2 minutes.”
“It’s not enough. It needs to be precise down to the second.”
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
“Understood.”
The young man nimbly turns around and returns to the side of the woman wearing glasses. In front of them, a massive depiction of the development history of civilizations on Earth is displayed. Each key milestone of the birth and extinction of civilizations is illuminated, shining brightly. The two people close their eyes, and countless lines weave through the points of light. They interconnect in an orderly and systematic pattern, and gradually, numerical values representing units of time emerge on the line segments.
As the main gods return to their tasks, everything appears to be the same as it was earlier. However, with Victor’s presence, the restlessness that was lingering in the air before has unknowingly melted away, vanishing into thin air.
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
The mechanical sound of a violin suddenly resounds, piercingly echoing throughout the hall. Standing by the door is an unexpected guest. Victor looks up and, upon recognizing the visitor’s face, dismisses the twelve main gods, leaving only the two of them in the spacious hall.
“Zero, I believe we’ve made our point very clear already.”
The other party seems oblivious to the implied urgency in the words and remains unperturbed as he says,
“We have observed new omens appearing along the world-lines.”
Victor raises his eyebrows, indicating for him to go on.
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
“There might be different potential futures for this world. It remains uncertain which path the new future will follow, and perhaps it could be even worse than the current situation.”
Victor’s eyes are filled with indifference as he responds,
“Time is precious. You can just state your purpose in coming directly.”
Zero pauses and looks straight into Victor’s eyes, speaking slowly,
“The SpaceTime Bureau welcomes powers formidable enough to confront and observe the unknown. Therefore, my invitation to you still stands. You and I both know that venturing into the unknown is not the optimal option.”
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
“Whether an option is the best has never been the basis for my decision-making. For me, the one and only valid prerequisite is whether or not I desire to make that choice.”
Victor speaks in an indifferent tone, yet every word carries the confidence of having victory within his grasp,
“And once I make a choice, I will ensure it becomes the most correct one.”
Zero chooses not to persuade any further, and as he departs, the gates of BS close behind him. Even though Victor has never had any regrets about his decisions, he cannot, however, escape the realization that even the right choice sometimes comes with an unbearable price. For instance, there is one such image that remains etched into his memory and which he still refuses to recall to this very day––
The utility room of the cruise ship. The bewilderment and perplexity in her gaze as she looked at him.
[Tidbits]: Reference to [S2 CH 31]
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
Even if her forgetting him had lasted for only a brief moment, the shock it brought to Victor’s heart might outlast even the longevity of his own life.
The sound of bells chiming outside the building reaches Victor’s ears and brings him back to reality, jolting him out of his tangled thoughts. He walks towards the window and pushes open the heavy panes, allowing the chilly wind to fill his nostrils. Gradually, he regains his composure.
He takes a deep breath and directs his gaze toward the bell tower of the church. The hoarse tolling of the bells startles a flock of crows into sudden flight. They circle above the church for a while, adding another layer of desolation to this already lifeless city. The church spire blends into the profound darkness of the night. The entire city seems to be silently awaiting the arrival of doomsday.
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
But in the next second, from a distance, Victor spots a familiar figure breaking through the night, running towards his location vigorously.
The darkness of the night intensifies,  and a cluster of blazing flames has already flared into existence in the silent void.
•─────⋅◍♡◍⋅─────•
【Chapter 5】
Victor is not surprised by the scene unfolding before him, and a small smile forms at the corner of his lips.
The church bells continue reverberating, but by the time the sound travels to Victor’s ears, it carries a much brisker tone.
Unbeknownst to him, a gauzy layer of starlight has cascaded upon the church’s stained glass windows at some point. The soft halo of pale light gently dances, casting swirling and elusive shadows that can be seen even with eyes closed.
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
The running girl closes the distance more and more, with her long hair casually flowing down in loose waves, drawing a beautiful arc in the air. Despite there still being a considerable distance between them, Victor feels as though he can see the girl’s face clearly. He is certain that her eyes now are sparkling with a resolute glimmer, powerful enough to pierce through the darkness of the night. With this thought, a wave of fervent sensation surges up from deep within his heart.
Suddenly, Victor feels as if he has been blessed.
It’s not about whether every decision he makes ultimately leads to the perfect outcome, but rather the fact that he has always been granted the opportunity to make choices.
It’s as if, at this moment, he can cast aside all social roles and simply be “Victor,” allowing himself to be there for the girl wherever she needed him and creating a space where she could find him at any time.
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
The feeling of being needed by her, of being able to help her–– these aspects bring Victor a profound sense of happiness. It seems that this happiness is enough to make the long days ahead, in which he may be forgotten by her, a little less painful to endure.
Victor nods slightly in the direction of the church, solemnly expressing his gratitude for this blessing within his heart.
Victor turns around and ascends the steps, summoning all the main gods to take their positions,
“Suspend all matters at hand.”
A murmuring commotion rises among the main gods, as they are puzzled about why BOSS has chosen to halt their activities during such a crucial moment when the end of the night is just about to descend.
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
Before those impatient inquiries can escape their lips, though, Victor’s cold and commanding demeanor instantly silences them.
His gaze sweeps over the crowd, ensuring that every main god is present, before finally settling on the entrance not far away. The main gods, following his line of sight, turn their heads toward the entrance as well.
A few seconds later, the BS door is pushed open with a resounding sound.
The girl appears at the far end of Victor’s unwavering gaze, gasping for breath. He, with a stern and proud expression, leads the main gods toward her until she can see him. It’s only when the girl has a clear view of him does Victor halt his steps.
✄┈┈┈┈┈┈
As those bright, sparkling eyes gaze at him from afar, and their eyes interlock, Victor’s heart is flooded with a myriad of complex and indescribable emotions. There is a sense of relief that the situation has unfolded according to his expectation, a deep sense of gratitude that she is standing before him at this moment, and a profound pride for her that emanates from the depths of his being… just as these emotions are about to pour out of his heart sincerely, he casts his gaze downward. He leads the main gods to step aside in the shadows, creating the path for the girl to ascend the platform.
Tumblr media
As he watches her walk step by step toward the long-unoccupied seat, Victor knows that regardless of what she might ask for, he has already prepared himself to do all that he can and give his everything for her.

How Headless WordPress Can Help Your Business Grow? | Island Wizards
Tumblr media
As businesses continue to grow online, having a fast, flexible, and future-proof website is important. One of the best ways to achieve this is by using Headless WordPress. At Island Wizards, we offer headless WordPress solutions that can help your business succeed in today’s digital world.
But what exactly is Headless WordPress, and how can it help your business?
What is Headless WordPress?
In traditional WordPress, the backend (where you manage your content) and the frontend (what the user sees) are connected. With Headless WordPress, these two are separated. WordPress still manages your content, but the frontend can be built using different tools and technologies, making your website faster and more customizable.
Let’s take a look at how this setup can benefit your business:
1. Faster Website for Better User Experience
When a website loads slowly, users are more likely to leave. Headless WordPress allows your website to be built with modern technologies that load content quickly, improving the overall user experience. A faster website also means better rankings on search engines like Google, which can bring more traffic to your site.
At Island Wizards, we ensure that your headless WordPress site is fast and smooth, helping you keep visitors engaged and satisfied.
2. Deliver Content Everywhere
With Headless WordPress, you can deliver your content to multiple platforms—not just your website. Whether it’s a mobile app, social media, or even a smart device, headless WordPress makes it easy to share your content across all channels. This helps you reach a wider audience, wherever they are.
At Island Wizards, we help you set up a system that makes your content available on different platforms, so your business can grow beyond just a website.
3. Keep Up with New Technology
Technology is always changing, and your website should be able to keep up. Headless WordPress allows you to update the frontend of your website (how it looks and works) without having to change your entire content management system. This makes it easier to add new features or update your design as trends and user expectations evolve.
Our team at Island Wizards builds future-proof websites that can grow and change with your business, so you’re always prepared for what’s next.
4. Increased Security
Online security is a big concern for businesses. With Headless WordPress, your website’s backend is more secure because it’s separated from the frontend. This reduces the risk of common attacks and makes your website less vulnerable to hackers.
At Island Wizards, we make sure your headless WordPress site is protected with the best security practices, giving you peace of mind.
5. Easy to Scale as You Grow
As your business grows, so will your website’s needs. Whether you’re getting more traffic or adding new features, Headless WordPress can scale easily. You can add more content, handle larger audiences, and ensure your website stays fast, no matter how big your business gets.
At Island Wizards, we create websites that grow with you, ensuring that your digital platform is always ready to meet increasing demands.
Conclusion
Headless WordPress is a powerful solution that helps businesses create faster, more flexible, and future-ready websites. With the ability to deliver content across multiple platforms, keep up with new technologies, improve security, and scale easily, it’s the perfect choice for businesses looking to grow.

@wordpress @wordpressvip
I started a WordPress blog only this year, but I fell in love with it instantly.
It was a careful decision, after a long period of deliberation between several different content management sites, but I chose WordPress because I felt that it had long-lasting capability in an ephemeral fast-paced internet. I've seen so many sites designed to host static content (like what I plan to post) change drastically and wither up and die, and I wanted a sustainable long-term archive for my life's work (fiction-writing, and writing articles about writing-craft) that I love so much.
Of course, WordPress even surpassed my initial expectations! I'm able to craft my blog ('The Notebook') to have that homemade Web 2.0 feel without being forced to add too many intrusive features that make me and my visitors uncomfortable. I can post my book reviews there to connect with my beloved book club even several hundred miles away from everyone else. My original recipe for biscuit cake with a biscuit base with can finally be seen and baked by the rest of the world too.
I love this product so much, but I'm concerned about its future now. I unexpectedly find myself doubting that initial decision to choose WordPress – and so soon after choosing it. Because it now looks *far* more unstable, more disreputable, more unsustainable than it has always been.
CEO Matt had always been quiet and inoffensive before, as good CEOs for sustainable long-term products that want to remain stable on the modern internet should be. But recently, he has taken to acting in an erratic, concerning way.
People have been losing trust in Automattic en-masse because of his immature cross-platform tantrums and alarming violations of data privacy laws – all in response to an issue that his product was at fault for; for its faulty, archaic automated content moderation system and appeal system. The flaws are gaping, and it's appalling for the most obvious of them to not even be acknowledged.
I implore you to take corrective action, at the very least to save Wordpress from sinking with this ship Matt is determined to go down with. Even if you dump this hellsite, poor WordPress is still going to be stuck with that idiot. Make the interim CEO permanent if you have to. WordPress means so much more than this, means so much to me, and has so much value that it's not worth losing.
TL/DR: Please act to save WordPress – I've come to love it a lot and I don't want it to die.

About
No longer threatened by the mafia organization Almata, the people of Calvard have returned to their peaceful lives.

Visitors Enchanted
Tumblr media
[The corridor of the academy is sleek and modern, lined with digital displays and humming with the quiet efficiency of a highly controlled environment. JK505, still slightly disoriented from the recent conditioning, walks slowly, leaning slightly on 60CCD for support. His breath is steadying, but there's a hint of fragility in his steps.]
JK505: [Whispering to 60CCD] "Thanks for being here. It really helps."
60CCD: [Supportively] "Anytime, JK505. You did well. Just take it easy."
Tumblr media
[As they walk, a group of visitors, accompanied by an instructor, rounds the corner and approaches them. The visitors, curious about the cadets and their experiences, pause to engage.]
[The visitors exchange glances, a mix of surprise and curiosity.]
Tumblr media
