Ahh this is a great question!! Sorry this took a sec, but here it is!

The Riddler:

Now, Crooner/Frankie isn’t as “quizzically-inclined” as Eddie, but he’d try his best to appeal to his special interests.

He’d start by making a little guessing game of their favorite songs, and then give them the answers via a mixtape! (Idk what their favorite songs would be, if y’all have suggestions pls share)

Idk why, but I can see Riddler enjoying being wined and dined at a fancy restaurant? Especially with how flustered he gets with minimal flirtatious advances, that traditional date angle would be pretty fun to him.

When they get home, Crooner would attempt to play one of Eddie’s video games. He needs some assistance, and is more than happy to get help from the guy who literally designed it!

Like with the rest of his partners, Frankie definitely spends some time having Edward infodump about his favorite interests. Riddles, games, quizzes, toys, yada yada. Whatever he wants. And there’s something so special in having that time to learn from someone you love.

The Scarecrow:

The date has to be planned a bit in advance, due to Jonathan’s schedule. But Frankie doesn’t care! As long as time is spent together.

I can weirdly see Jonathan being a museum nerd? Get him that annual pass!! Crooner also enjoys them, but it’s a lot more fun when they’re together and can talk about the exhibit.

Even though he’d be down for whatever the museum has to offer, he has a preference for hands on exhibits. One of his favorite parts of these dates is just people watching and wondering “hmm what makes them absolutely terrified”

I can also see him being a bakery fan!! Jonathan may be cruel in his work but he isn’t heartless. His favorite baked goods are definitely apple cider donuts and ham and cheese croissants. Meanwhile, Crooner likes anything with chocolate he also enjoys cream-filled donuts because whore

As the date comes to a close and Crane has to go back to work, Crooner always makes sure to leave a little note or gift in his briefcase. Nothing too extravagant, but enough to give the doctor a happy sigh.

The Mad Hatter:

We all know from “Mad As A Hatter” that Jervis is a fan of extravagant dates, or at least the idea of one. And Frankie is up for that challenge!

He’d probably start with some form of breakfast in bed. Chamomile tea, an array of scones, bacon, fruit, and Crooner’s attempt at reading Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. And maybe a back rub thrown in.

Going back to “Mad As A Hatter,” I can see them both having fun in the park. Jervis was probably banned from Storybook Land, but that doesn’t mean they can’t have fun at any of the local parks! I have no clue why, but I can see him and Crooner roller skating… or attempting to.

After some more sightseeing, Jervis’ social battery would begin to run and they’d probably head back to spend the rest of their date at home. But that’s more okay! It gives them plenty of time to have fun, just with the two of them. Cue plenty of dance sessions to “The Lobster Quadrille,” “No Rain” (stole that headcanon from @bluefreakingskies) and “All Shook Up”!

Of course, they’d end the night with sharing new and old findings on their hyperfixations. I can see them in bed, pouring over different illustrated versions of Wonderland, with some calming music on the record player. A perfect way to soothe them into a wonderland of dreams.

The Penguin:

I gotta say this first and foremost, Crooner would be pissed at what Vreeland did to Penguin and he’d have to do quite a bit of trust building. But once he feels comfortable, date nights become practically every night. (Well, realistically, probably two or three nights a week. But you get what I mean!)

As you’ve suggested DNP, these two absolutely LOVE the idea of love coupons. Considering how often they have dates, they use the coupons as a way to plan. Outside of the normal coupons (like make dinner, full-body massage, slow dance), they also have ones related to their careers! Such as, feed the birds, serenade, shine Tommy guns, and make throat-coat tea.

Similarly to Riddler, Oswald loves to be wined and dined. Or rather, treating Crooner to a fancy meal. And unlike a certain socialite, he doesn’t mind how Ozzie eats. Which have you seen how he swallows fish?? Frankie is absolutely turned on by that

We know from “Birds Of A Feather” that Pengy loves the opera, so it’s no surprise that he takes Crooner to his favorite shows. And in turn, I can see him taking Oswald to different concerts. But where their interests collide is with musicals! Penguin enjoys the classics from Rodgers and Hammerstein and Gershwin, while Frankie loves ones with heavy leitmotifs and symbolism like with Sondheim.

I know you liked the idea of Crooner doing spa activities, and you won’t be disappointed with how his date nights end with Pengy! He makes sure that he’s utterly pampered to the max, usually involving a bubbly bath, fancy soaps, face masks, and massages for his sore hands/flippers. But don’t you worry, he absolutely returns the favor to his partner!

ELDWIN:

1: He likes sketching. He took it up because it's one of the few things he can do while he's confined to his room, especially in the week or two after aether harvests when he's well enough to be bored but his mind is too cloudy to focus on reading and he still can't handle much physical activity. He doesn't consider himself much of an artist, he kind of just mindlessly sketches what's in his sight, things in his room or outside the window. It passes the time though. When he gets Aconite his sketchbook is just filled with cats of varying shape and quality.

2:The Farewell Manor has a huge, beautiful garden with exotic plants from all over the world. He likes to stroll through them, taking in the scenery; more so when Alistair goes with him and takes him into the greenhouses, explaining what each plant is, where they come from, how to care for them. Though Eldwin hasn't had the chance to do any gardening himself, I think he'd like it. He grew up rurally and was always outside exploring the forest; people are surprised because he really doesn't seem like the type, but he misses being in nature.

Specifically he'd really be interested in rare and dangerous plants. There's a full greenhouse of super toxic and magic plants that he's not allowed to go in. He really wants to though.

3: Once he's free from the Syndicate is allowed to do things, he'd love collecting ancient artefacts. Whether their magic is worn out or they're still live and one wrong move could spell disaster - if it's rare and arcane, he wants it. He lost his passion for magic along his way; he'll find it again and really go all in on his study, particularly enchantments.

KIERAN:

-He did modelling as kid, so he's always had an interest in fashion and makeup.

-Photography. He photographs all kinds of things from people to scenery.

-Watching movies and musicals. He likes to figure out how a film was made and study the acting, and the musicals are just a vibe

ANCASSIUS:

-Swimming and diving. Within his crew he is beaten only by Reva, which is... well, fair. He takes the win.

-Coin collecting. He always keeps at least one modern currency from every place he's been too, and he even has some old and special editions.

-He loves theatre. Spending so much time at sea, he and the crew not only tell stories but put on plays. They're not supposed to be good, they're very over-the-top and dramatic, but it's fun and keeps things light on long nights

-Related to wanting to be a healer, he was once very religious. Most people are in Aenora, especially in a rural village like where he grew up. But of course seeing him nowadays having very much thrown that away, it comes as a surprise.

KIERAN:

-He has beautiful handwriting.

-He took ballet classes as a child, but dropped out

-He likes most fish, but hates most other seafood. Considering he spends so much time at sea, this is a problem.

By himself, he tends to be left alone. He's pretty which attracts unwanted attention, but he also has a hell of a resting bitch face if he wants to, and anyone genuine tends to stay away, especially if they know his reputation. However, it's not uncommon for Clyde or Alistair to actively bring him to people's attention, which he hates but has to just put up with.

KIERAN:

Another pretty boy, he also gets attention. Unlike Eldwin, Kieran is really nice and he's just- he's one of those people you can just tell is gentle, you know? So whilst he attracts some nefarious people, he's also just perceived as a friendly person and people are drawn to him.

...He is an introvert so it can be a bit uncomfortable. But he's glad he's seen as approachable.

ANCASSIUS:

Oh, he definitely gets attracts people, and he thrives under the attention. Frankly he feels quite put out when he is left alone. He's a friendly person in general, extroverted, always willing to help. He'd be upset if people felt like they couldn't approach him.

Aside from drawing, what other hobbies do you have?

Writing is my main hobby. Mostly original, but I also write fanfiction, and all kinds of mediums— screenplays, books, poetry, video game scripts. After that, I do a lot of photography and photo editing in general. I guess this facilitates my hobby of walking a lot to get good photos. I make sure I get at least one good photo every day. I also play video games for leisure (not well, but I do!), and do a lot of fashion related things (I’m not so good at sewing, but in the process of learning.) like making jewelry and doing hair/coordinating outfits based on characters for fun. Right now, all my outfits are based on X-Men characters. Fashion is very, very, very deadly important to me.

I had more varied hobbies as a kid, but I’m in college and also employed, so I don’t have so much time now. I used to do competitive ice skating and musical theatre. It’s no biggie though, because art, photography, and drawing make me the happiest in the world. Especially writing. I’m glad to devote so much to it.

The memory of the planet dubbed "Carlos McConnell" felt different somehow. Familiar, yet some of its most esoteric practices-- to even casual habits of the inhabitants, felt strangely distant. Some things, she would never fully connect with, even learning as much as she could everyday. Some things to cherish, some things that didn't mesh with the life she wanted for herself. But it was still her heritage all the same.

The structure that passed for her family-- an assembly, was loosely knit. Those of some large genetic commonality, others overlapping from other smaller groupings. The most immediate of whom, offer the basic necessities of food and shelter. Given in legitimate fondness, though in some part due to the endeavors of the day-- an investment.

Felinids in large were not unlike other baseline lifeforms, save for some slight differences. But Aisha was brought up in a batch of veritable jungle cats. Put through a path of hellfire and thunder to wield as much herself, to take it in stride. And she did: albeit, to a less unflinching degree than her play cousins.

Still. This was a style of energy-slinging, one of many-- but unique in its more Felinid flair. The Galactic Volunteer Service had such beings as their most esteemed members. Able to observe macro and micro, through a cosmic sensory awareness. And their raw destructive output, feared and famed...

Dirt World was meant to help the struggling kitten thrive. In various ways it did, even as her assembly did not concur. Thus, the minimum of maintenance-- of "care" was applied. Success through hardship and all that. Pitted against armed combatants, atypical wildlife, and other paranormal forces for variety.

Though the more pedestrian inhabitants of the planet were soft and too many were even downright ill or possessing little material, these people shared what they could when she came around. Perhaps for that, she survived to grow older.

There was a certain practice based around such generosity. One that called for warriors to actively pursue peace...

It wasn't hard to find others. Though perhaps the caliber had been overstated.

The initial group had started with Socket. A slasher, a sorcerer, for whom all his dealings demanded he one-up the other person, be it verbally or by acquisition of new, more terrible magic. Even if they were a friend. Ever one to escalate encounters until he held the advantage. Then, he was "affable" again.

Ectoette, the density-shifter with the banshee scream. She carried herself as a paragon too. The warmth of the All-American girl next door. Provided that fantasy never came crashing down, and she never lashed out in a panic. On some quest of eternal manners. No action of hers was conducted without polite regard.

Grizzly, the offspring of the revered ursine-themed lawman of the future, KodiaKop. A heavily-armed, body-armored foulmouth. Sadly, the most honest of the bunch. Priding himself on a lack of filter, putting his faith in gunpowder and steel. Only somewhat stronger than the average human compared to his peers. Mocking them for their outlandish origins and capabilities, even when his jeers made little sense. As long as they offended.

There were others along the way. Some would stick around, some knew to hit the road. In any case, they all hung out. They did the fun things teenagers-going-on-young-adults did, video games and movies, music and dancing, united in playing pranks and sneaking booze and smokes.

It was better than doing these things alone.

Eventually they made it big. Or at least, they did something noteworthy and Grizzly relayed it to his Pater. Gone were the days they took whatever they could find scrounging the streets, or the listings online for contracts-- that market was being dominated by the new Pithy Randos powershare app.

So they hit it big with the Enforcers. An Earth-first off-shoot of an older group. Once a mid-century militia meant to pool efforts in the face of large-scale threats. Its members scattered, but their headcount made them formidable. Now they were organized, followed a private military approach to things that other major league supergroups hadn't aimed for. And now they wanted a batch of new recruits.

Life made sense. Rocketing around in his powered-exo armor, Shootsuit fired steady concussive beams from the sky to mow through foes wholesale with a side of witty repartee and bought everyone victory burritos afterwards. And so very many times after that too. Bed time was never with him. Lady Pastella on the other hand was perennially fed-up, a strict headmistress of her own academy for magical girls-- never allowing them to deviate from the house style she popularized. Of all their mentors, they were the most prominent. Cheery teachers that embraced naivete-- not decency-- willingly and half-hearted drill sergeants who already hit their corrupt jackpot.

It was like Hollywood and the Military-Industrial Complex, but instead of merely intertwining, they had fused!

But life for Aisha and the old gang went swimmingly. They were billed as the successors to the founders, destined to take the reins one day. Everyone was so proud of Aisha-- she followed orders, she didn't hesitate, and the fans couldn't help but latch onto the catgirl, from a PR standpoint. Better than the other space case, they always said as if for a moment she wasn't in the room.

Then the day came. Fire and brimstone. Surrendering ne'er-do-wells cut down, captured, whatever. Then he landed with a sonic boom. A few other ragtag rebels opting to stand with him. Socket just sneered and snickered. Grizzly loaded ammunition. Ectoette called for civility. A dozen others prepared weapons and superpowers of all stripes. The ideal was always to be in excess of the enemy. Any enemy. Never compromising, or all would surely be lost. Heroes never gave up, right?

The order included the veterans' star pupil, the peers' MVP-- Aisha. She had to put down the interlopers, including Rex! This was her time to decide who she was. What she would make of the world-- Earth and beyond. Her challenge wasn't to survive. It was to paint a picture. The canvas? The course of history for this entire illusionary reality.

But for a moment, her supposed war buddies looked at each other. Even if Aisha refuted all that Rex tried to warn her about. The only thing Aisha couldn't affect were their wills. And they couldn't do with a potential liability.

Not a band kid but want to read the Marching AU?

Then I’ve got the post for you! This one! Here’s what marching band/DCI is all about in the simplest terms I can put it aka its time to channel my inner High Brass Section Leader During the First Week of Band Camp again. Also I'll try not to infodump too much, oops. I can guarantee it'll be long, though.

People who do know instruments and are looking at this for fun, enjoy. But be aware that I'm taking this simply so I may describe things in a way you disagree with.

First things first! What is marching band?

Marching band is a group of people who decided it would be cool to walk in a certain way so they could play their instruments and make shapes on the field, lol. If you've ever been to a football game, they're the musicians who go on the field during half time.

It has its roots in military bands, thus the uniforms looking the way they do and marching in time and always starting marching with your left foot. Bands have played for football teams for ages and the early 1900s was about the time they started to make shapes while they played.

Many high school marching bands compete against each other. Yes, there are even state and national level competitions! Other high schools just do "show bands" aka they don't compete, might go to some festivals, and are mainly there to help the crowd have fun. They also tend to be at least a smidge more relaxed than competition bands can be.

All bands involve a variety of wind instruments and a drumline. Many bands also have a colorguard and/or drill team that performs with them. More on them later.

DCI

DCI stands for Drum Corps International. A drum corps is a marching band with just brass instruments and percussion. DCI also has color guard members. Sorry, woodwinds. Specifically, DCI is an organization that has a variety of bands all across the USA. Throughout the summer, they put together marching shows and compete against each other. The season ends with nationals to see who did the best that year. It's an intense program, involving "touring" around to various competitions and quite literally eating, breathing, sleeping marching band. They actually have an age cap at 21 but if people, say, 22 or older wanted to keep marching there's the DCA which is similar but not the same.

Who's Who?

Band Director

The person in charge. They're the one that decides what the band will be doing and when. They teach music and marching and everything else in between. They delegate a lot of things to the band leadership (aka the people below).

Drum Majors

The people out there waving their arms. They're conducting the music to help keep the band together as well as marching at the right speed. They also help teach things and check that things look good. They don't march on the field itself, usually, though stuff they do can be involved in the show. The thing they stand on is called a podium.

Section Leaders

Each type of instrument is called a section. Section leaders guide the other people playing the same instrument as them. They will hand out papers, help demonstrate what the band director and drum majors are saying, run sectionals (aka moments where the band divides up into instruments to practice) and so on. They do a lot to help boost morale. Also, they're usually in charge of attendance, lol.

Squad Leaders

If there's a lot of people like in my college's band, sections might be split further into squads. In the case of my school, squad leaders help make sure everyone feels included. They also help pass out papers the section leader hands to them, run parts of sectionals, and help demonstrate. One of them will step up if the section leader is out of commission temporarily.

Marchers

A marcher is just another term for someone in the band who's out there performing. Since they're not, ya know, conducting with the drum majors or anything. Section and squad leaders are marchers with additional duties, basically.

How To March

Roll-stepping

Remember how I said marching bands step a certain way? That's called roll-stepping. Basically, it involves pointing your toes high so your heel hits the ground first. Then you "roll" your foot until your toes come off the ground. Repeat with the next foot. This is how bands can play without the music sounding like everyone's walking around.

Rollsteps come in a variety of sizes, the most common being an 8 to 5. That just means it takes 8 steps to get 5 yards, since 8 counts are common in music and there's 5 yard lines all over the football field. Roll-stepping also involves your feet hitting the ground at the correct time and on the right foot. Don't worry, it soon becomes second nature and you don't even have to think about it as you learn a new show.

There's also a fancy thing called a jazz run. I never learned how to do it in HS but I know it exists. It's a way to run while marching. Trust me. It's basically running on your toes and making sure the top half of your body doesn't bounce too much.

Where To Go

You might be thinking, "Okay, cool, I now kinda know how they march. But how do they know where to go?" Great question! Band directors have sheets of paper that are designed to look like the football field. On it, it has where everyone is supposed to be, how long in the music it'll take to get there, and so on. This is called a drill chart/sheet. These are given to the drum majors and section leaders as well, so they can help people find where they need to go.

Each marcher is assigned a designation based on their instrument. For example, I am T11 this year. This means that I am the 11th trumpet player. (For reference, we go to T39 this year.) The person to my right when we make a square might be T13, since they try to keep instruments in the relatively same spot.

That's not always the case, though! During our pregame show (aka when we play the fight song and the Banner and all that since this is a college marching band), I'm between H4 (H as in French horn) and R8 (R for trombone since the trumpets took T). So on and so forth with the rest of the instruments.

There's a sheet of paper for each shape made on the field until the entire show is clear. Marchers get a condensed version of this called a "dot/coordinate sheet" (since each spot you have on the field is a "dot" since that's what you look like from far away). Dot sheets only have your dots on them, though they do have how long each move is. You practice with help from the dot sheets until you memorize where you need to go and don't need to reference it as much anymore.

Different Directions

I'm gonna keep this one as simple as possible. There are ways to stand so you can still face front while moving sideways. You can also move backwards in a variety of ways. Some of these involve rollstepping while going backwards. Others involve being on the platforms of your feet. Either works, but it depends on the band director's opinion for which one a band will use. The main goal is to always face front, unless...

Direction of Travel Marching

Sometimes a move will be "d.o.t." (not to be confused with a dot). This just means that, instead of facing front, you face the directon you're going. At the end of this move, the marcher faces front again and continues on as normal.

If a d.o.t. move is particularly long, a single drum major will usually be on the back sideline to help everyone stay on beat. The other drum major(s) will stay in the front for when everyone moves back.

Music

Marching bands can play all kinds of music. I've done classical, jazz, rap, pop, rock, salsa, 80s hits, and more. Usually, you don't see a marching band have music on them as they perform on the field. At certain points while practicing, they will! Almost all music performed is memorized, but while learning dots, a marcher will have something called a lyre. This is a little folder that holds the music and attaches to the instrument. This allows them to write notes to help them remember where to go and when.

Basic Field Things

The side you're playing towards is called the front sideline. The other one is called the back sideline or back field. If you're gonna face the endzones, most band directors just say "face the endzones." There are also marks where they set the footballs to begin play. These are called hash marks. They're used to figure out where you stand, but otherwise aren't really relevant.

Instruments

Instruments used in marching band aren’t the same as the ones used for concert band. As I said, Drum Corps are made of brass, percussion, and color guard. Marching bands, on the other hand, also include woodwinds. The Marching AU is a sort of mix between both a drum corp and marching band organization, so it’s based on my experiences in marching band but set up with as much of my knowledge of drum corps as it can be.

In other words, it’s mainly based on what I’ve experienced but it’s only brass, percussion, and guard, no woodwinds. Sorry to everyone who wanted to see their fave play a woodwind in this AU. It's unfortunately not happening.

Brass Instruments

High Brass

High brass is called as such because they have higher ranges of notes they can play in the overall scheme of things. This is similar to violins, sopranos and tenors, and flutes, just specifically within the brass section.

Trumpet

Alright, we’re starting off with the instrument I play for marching band (no this isn’t biased, what are you talking about).

Trumpets often are given the melody of the song, though they are sometimes given accompanying parts (like if you're playing a song that's on the radio that uses trumpets for small fanfares, you bet you're gonna be playing the fanfare instead of the melody for that song). Trumpets are easy to hear amongst the band since they are bright and high. I love it but some people are a lil biased against us because certain people really love playing high every chance they get.

Marching French Horn/Mellophone

Fun fact! I also play the French horn for concert band. However, for marching band, things are a little bit different. French horns, normally, have the horn face the back. But when you're on a football field, you need it to face to front. As a result, they made a type of French horn that faces the front to march with! A mellophone can also be used. For the sake of simplicity, they are pretty much the same, you just use different types of mouthpieces, amongst a few other small differences.

Bands who don't have marching French horns have mellophones and they sound very similar. They are good blending instruments aka they can play at the same time as a variety of instruments. French horns are grouped with high brass because they can play high, though they also could fit in with the low brass, depending on the song.

John Williams likes to use a lot of horn in his pieces, and not just as off-beats or long tones (what we normally get). Horn players like John Williams :)

Low Brass

Similarly to how high brass plays high, low brass is made up of instruments that play on the lower end of the range. In orchestras, instruments with similar ranges are cellos and basses. For voices, this is like altos and (also) basses.

Baritone

In concert band, we have something called a euphonium. It looks like a mini-tuba, in a sense. (Tuba and euphonium players, pls don't @ me.) Baritones are essentially the marching version of a euphonium. Or at least that's how it was explained to me. This is what it looks like:

Much like a marching French horn, the bell is facing front instead of a different direction (up in this case). Also, this picture makes it look small. It is not. It is twice as tall as a trumpet and twice as heavy. Sometimes they get the melody, but when they do, it can be tied to the rest of the low brass. They often play various accompanying parts or long notes.

Trombone

Trombones! The only brass instrument with one giant slide instead of valves (aka the button things) to press. They're pretty cool. Often, when the low brass gets the melody, these guys are loud and ready. They also play a lot of accompanying parts and long notes. They also have the ability to do something fun called a glissando which is kinda like when you brush your hand up and down a piano except it's a wind instrument.

These peeps also get to do something fun called a trombone suicide, on occasion. Don't worry, the goal is that nobody actually dies. It's just a cool trick that involves bending and twisting over each others' heads to wow people. I'm not describing it very well. Here's a link to CSU doing it about a decade ago to help: here.

Contra

The most massive instrument you'll ever see on a football field: a contrabass bugle aka the marching tuba aka a contra. These things are MASSIVE. Imagine a tuba. Now imagine carrying it all on one shoulder while marching. Boom. One of the most impressive things you'll ever witness and they're not even marching yet.

Many bands opt for sousaphones instead. They're the tubas that wrap around your body. Both my high school and college use them. But DCI uses contras, so this AU has contras. Go them! Much like the rest of low brass, expect them to be loud and excited when they get the melody. You can only play so many long notes before you go crazy. They deserve it.

Percussion

Percussion is split into two groups: drumline and pit. Some bands don't have a pit (like my high school). Most do, though, and we'll include them in this AU.

Drumline

For some reason, the most popular part of the band. Like, no matter what, if the drumline performs, the crowd goes crazy, even if they slept through the halftime show. Idk, it's odd to me. But drumline members are pretty cool.

There are multiple types of drums in a drumline: bass, snare, tenor/quads. There are also cymbal players. Basses are the only ones that come in different sizes. They also make slightly different pitches.

Drumline's main job is to help keep the band on beat and also to sound really super cool. They also get to do fun tricks with their sticks (or with the cymbals) because their instruments are attached to a harness that lets them use both their arms to play.

Pit

Ah, the pit. Sometimes also known as the front ensemble. The people in the marching band who are playing instrument but not doing any marching. Gotta love them. They play a variety of instruments you usually see in a concert band. Most of them tend to be mallet instruments (aka things like marimbas or xylophones or vibes).

Many DCI shows will have a drumline and a pit feature (whether or not those are separate depends) because they're that cool. Sometimes, they bring in instruments not usually used in pit for added affect like electric guitars or recorders.

Here's the Bluecoats pit performing off-field. It looks pretty much the same thing on field, just with the rest of the band behind them.

Color Guard

Have you ever noticed people waving flags around on the field? That's the color guard! That's pretty simply what they do: dance and march with flags to the music the band plays. They can also use a variety of other things like sabres (aka fake swords), rifles (also fake, lol), ribbons, hula hoops, and whatever else the color guard director desires.

Sometimes instead of a color guard, there's a drill team. This just means a dance team that may or may not use pom poms. Other times, the color guard itself dances to the music. They are given additional roles to unfurl giant flags over the band at times and add a lot to the show.

and now, onto...

Uniforms

Most band uniforms are pretty forward, even if they have silly names. You always have a base layer. This is usually something everyone has access to, such as a band shirt (that may or may not showcase that year's show) and some sort of shorts or pants.

Then comes the pants. Fun fact! They're actually overall-like things, and they're called bibbers. They usually zip in the front and have adjustable leg lengths.

Then comes the jacket. Pretty straight forward. Zippers are often hidden and depending on how complicated the zippers and various clasps to keep it closed and tidy are on it depends on how likely you are to need someone to help you zip up.

Many bands put pieces of fabric on the arms of the uniform over the jacket. These are called gauntlets. Yes, like the armor piece. Vague military history and all that. All bands will use gloves as well.

Next comes the hat. It's called a shako and the feathers that stick out of it are called a plume. The plume is detachable, so you can wear the shako without it. All hair must be tucked into the shako at all times it is worn. Don't worry, there's an adjustable string inside to help it stay on your head properly and find the room for hair. There's also an adjustable chin strap.

Marching shoes do indeed exist. They have a rounded heel to help you (supposedly) roll step better. They're very durable since they have to go through a lot, lol. When practicing, marchers just use tennis shoes, though.

Some uniforms have capes that'll attach. Others will have shakos that look more like helmets than hats. It all depends! That's the fun part. Drum major uniforms will also look different than the bands' uniforms. Often, this is with the color of the bibbers, but not always.

Color Guard uniforms are a lot like dance costumes, in a sense, with leggings. They can also use a type of marching shoe or jazz shoes. Their uniform will either match the show's theme or look similar to the band's uniform.

Miscellaneous Band and Music Terms

Call Time: The time you're expected to be there. For rehearsals, this usually means ready to begin warmups on the field. For performances, this usually means in full uniform

Drill: When used as "the drill" this just means the show and the specifics within it. Could also be used to refer to the drill chart. It depends on context

Visuals: Any fancy stuff added to the drill. This could be lunges, dancing, horn flashes (aka moving your instrument to a different angle) and so on

Horn angle: Instruments must be held at 10 degrees above parallel to help the sound travel better

Block: To be in block means to spread out on the yard lines to go over basics

Basics: Quite literally the basic skills of marching. These can be used as warm ups once they've been mastered. They're used to help make sure step sizes are right, that everyone remembers how to do different moves correctly and so on

Slides: How you stay facing front while marching sideways

Cleaning the drill: Making sure everyone's marching is looking good and making the shapes its supposed to

Parade Rest: Much like military parade rest, not quite attention but not at ease.

Attention: Ready to play at a moment's notice. This involves the top of wind instruments being perpendicular to the ground and hands in position to play

->->->->Without instruments, attention is having your right hand over your left with your arms at a 90 degree angle. This is how you march when you're learning the show without your instrument yet.

Horns Up: Bringing the instruments up into playing position

Horns Down: Bringing the instruments down from playing position and back into attention

Relax/At Ease: No longer being obligated to stand at parade rest or attention. Do whatever you want (within reason... please pay attention).

Competitions: Much like competitions for other events, bands are judged and given feedback. Awards are usually given for best overall, best sound, best marching, best drumline, and best color guard

Rehearsal: Practice time :)

Set: A lowkey way to call the band to attention ("You should be set"). OR the movement from one place on the field to another. Basically, a subset of the music

I’m sure I’ll forget a lot of things and smack my own forehead in shame afterwards, but this is what comes to mind right away:

Literature:

Anything ever written by Victor Hugo is a masterpiece. This dude was a terrible human being, but he sure knew how to write, and he contributed to major changes in the social conscience of his contemporaries on many important topics (including but not limited to the death penalty and child labour). To give you a taste, here is my favourite poem ever, which he wrote, because of course he did.

My favourite piece of literature across all categories, though, is and forever will be Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand — the story of a man who convinced himself his unusually long nose makes him monstruous. The concept sounds so silly, I know, but this play is a masterpiece and a wonderful love letter to the French language.

Which brings me to my favourite comic series: De Cape et de Crocs by Alain Ayroles and Jean-Luc Masbou! Basically a twelve-volume-long fix-it fic, disguised as a tribute to French literature. Also, a beautiful bromance.

Visual arts:

Basically everyone in France can quote at least one line from Kaamelott, a comedic (?) series derived from the Arthurian legend. It is so well researched and hilarious — until it isn’t.

I’m sure there’s like, a very obvious movie choice that will come back to me in a minute, but I was raised on Disney and Scooby-Doo, so these are clogging my brain at the moment. Just give it time.

When I was very young, I would watch TV at my grandparents’ and enjoy Les Hydronautes, an animated series about an extraterrestrial explorer documenting the Earth’s marine wildlife in an effort to learn how to better protect her own planet (Aka There Are Many Benefits To Being A Marine Biologist: The Series), as well as C’est pas sorcier, a series of very fun documentaries on a plethora of subjects, from lavender farming to volcanic eruptions.

Obviously, Miraculous gets a place on the list too! 🐞🐈‍⬛

EDIT BECAUSE I FORGOT: Fantomette the animated series! This show is single-handedly responsible for my taste for smart women with amazing hair who ride motorbikes and kick ass. It even had Egytpology as a key part of the plot.

Music:

For me Formidable by Charles Aznavour is a classic, a very cute song, and a great place to start if you want to learn French!

A few other favourites include Fanny Ardant et moi by Vincent Delerm, Le Dîner by Bénabar (extremely funny to listen to while thinking about the Diamonds’ Dance) and J’ai cherché by Amir (This one is… Borderline when it comes to grammar, but cute enough that I grin and bear it. Also, it got us an honourable ranking at the Eurovision a while back, which is rare enough to be celebrated).

ALSO. I complain too much about bad translations and poor writing (see previous bullet point) not to show you kids how it’s done with Je vole from Aladdin (a genius play on words which delves into the two significations of the verb “voler”: to fly or to steal).

Video games:

Long ago, before I discovered the wonderful world of Nintendo, I would wait patiently every month for the new issue of Toboclic. This game had everything: cute animal mascots, stories, mini-games, arts-and-crafts suggestions, catchy songs, interactive documentaries… I’m sure my parents still have the CDs somewhere, but they probably don’t run anymore, which is a shame. I miss my friends.

FIC. ranchers slowburn but subtle enough you can ignore it if you're not into shipping, people are correctly written for once, LATE 90'S-EARLY 2000'S MUSIC FESTIVAL AU. it's amazing. scott gets into a bar fight. jimmy steals something. first chapter is tango tek waking up from drunk music playing. skizz is amazing i love him. very very vague spoilers: weed + enjoys movies = pondering arson

i believe that we will see a better day - this fic has a special place in my heart for Reasons that i will not elaborate on as i do not want to have any personal information leaked don't think about it too hard <3 good fic

— he quickly comes to a realization that dancing is definitely not his thing so he just sticks to watching you dance around and occasionally hyping you up

— but when you’re not around and he’s home alone, he’s trying to practice his skills so he can have enough confidence to show you later (maybe it’s not good but he’s trying just for you)

JEAN

— sometimes he just flat out refuses until you give up on asking and if you don’t give up on asking, he’ll eventually give in

— he does all the dances halfassed so you won’t ask him to do it anymore. it’s not like he doesn’t wanna spend time w you, dancing and that style of music just isn’t his thing

— but he does support your interests and like reiner, will hype you up in the background

— but sometimes when he’s playing the game w his friends and hears the video playing in the other room, he’ll hum along to it without even realizing

so I know you said that Trevor and Rudolph are dating as well as Josie and Kevin. Do you have any headcanons about them as couples?

You know I do!

I have so many headcanons, especially about the guys who do nothing.

Swedish Barbecue (Trevor x Rudolph):

They got together over summer break before senior year

They met up for ice creams during the Honey Festival and Rudolph asked if they could be boyfriends

Very goofy, silly boys

Almost the entire school acknowledges they’re a really sweet couple and actively ships them

Rudolph is the most supportive boyfriend

He is in the front row of all the school shows, if not he will sit on the floor in front of said row

Definitely waves back at Trevor and whispers proudly to people beside him “that’s my boyfriend”

Rudolph doesn’t let Grace tell Trev off for not doing his hall monitor duties properly

Tries to remind Trev of his lines but he isn’t very good at remembering things either, so he usually gets it wrong and Trevor ends up saying the wrong thing

Has definitely stolen one of Trevor’s costumes from the drama department because he looked cute in it and wants him to wear it at home

Trevor spends hours learning Swedish recipes and buys a lot of Swedish snacks for Rudolph. This increases by a tenfold if Rudolph is ever feeling homesick

They go on a lot of hikes together

They both really like being outdoors, especially on their dates

Always do really silly couples costumes for Halloween and other dressing up events

Babysit Luigi for Cait from time-to-time. They both love dogs but don’t have any of their own, and this gives them more of an excuse to spend time outside

They plan to adopt tons of dogs together post graduation

And I don’t actually have a ship name for them, so they’re just Josie x Kevin:

These two don’t actually know how they got together

They’d been playfully flirting for a while and they’d hangout without the others, but there isn’t an official first date or anything. It just sorta happened

They binge a lot of trashy reality TV and just scream at the TV for hours

Kevin got Josie into it, who then got Cait and Trev into it, so they could use it for scene improv

Bowling is their usual go to for date night

Though they spend a lot of time in the arcade too - they’re both pretty big on video games, in spite of being horrible at them

They’re really good at not letting their relationship overcloud things. Miss Mulberry doesn’t even clock the two are dating until someone mentions it explicitly - they just show up and carry on as they did beforehand, totally platonic

This is partially done to make Cait, the only single one of the group, not feel left out or like the third wheel

Really want to learn how to do the lift from Dirty Dancing just for fun. It should workout given the size difference. But every time they try, they just end up laughing about it and not actually doing anything

Kevin really tries to get Josie to break in scenes, not only because she’s the toughest one to crack (and if he does it’s really impressive) but he loves the sound of her laughter

Josie tries teaching Kevin to cook, it usually ends in burnt food and broken spaghetti but she loves the bonding experience of it so keeps trying

Have never played a couple onstage before or after they got together, but would like to at least once before they graduate

They sing a lot of musical love songs for karaoke together

Lots of double dates with Trevor and Rudolph

Its kinda weird and fucked up how I straight up do not have any close friends my age I can talk to. I have my partner but too much information overloads the poor beast, and I am very much a talker.

I can't reach out in my local community even though I'd like to, because for literally since 2017 I've had a stalker harasser that made me have to delete every trace of mg previous online life, and he lives Here. Every person I meet I'm legitimately terrified of. And rn I can't get out of here either?

Tbh I'd like to meet more people on here and make new friends but I'm scared of being burned again BC the last person I met I spent 2 fucking years on and the man dumped me and our partner over a fictional sexual predator and I have trust issues that got wildly exaggerated.

How Summer Troupe responds to scary things

Tenma is such a scaredy cat when it comes to all things spooky. He tries to put on a brave face and he pretends that he isn’t at all frightened by such nonsense, but that brave face is hard to keep up with even the tiniest of jump scares or real moments of suspense. Though he’s starred in at least one of them, he hates horror movies. He’s lent his voice to a horror game, but he can’t play those types of video games at all. Ghost stories freak him out and give him nightmares. He will not, no matter how ‘brave’ it might make him look, go into even the kitschiest of haunted houses because simple jump scares that get children also get him. He’ll jump almost out of his shoes if, late at night, someone creeps up on him and goes boo. He’s definitely got his scaredy-cat side, but it’s also kind of charming in a way.

Yuki has learned to maintain quite the nonchalant attitude. When it comes to scary things, like horror movies, horror video games, haunted houses, and things along those lines, I don’t think they really bother Yuki as much as they would some other people. Yuki is pretty logical, behind all the frippery and slight frivolousness. He doesn’t believe in ghosties, ghouls, or things that go bump in the night. Because of this, Yuki doesn’t really get all that invested in scary stories or horror movies. They don’t scare him and kind of bore him. However, this boredom does not translate over to jump scares. In the proper setting or situation, when Yuki is really engrossed in something else or not expecting it, a well-timed jump scare will make Yuki out and outright shriek. Like, the sort of scream that can be heard from outside. This was discovered when Tenma, tired of some of Yuki’s teasing, arranged a well-placed jump scare for Yuki in the boy’s studio, where he knew Yuki was engrossed in costume making. Everyone, even those who were in the dorms, came running…Yuki got Tenma back though, don’t worry about that.

Muku is a really interesting case in this. While Muku is definitely kind of easily scared by spooky things, he kind of enjoys that kind of scary. He doesn’t like, at all, horror movies that are full of gore and a lot of violence, but spooky paranormal or supernatural horror movies? He doesn’t mind sitting down and watching those, but only if he has someone else to watch them with. Horror movies, games, or haunted houses are NOT a solo activity for Muku and he doesn’t understand the people who can enjoy those kind of things by themselves. It’s kind of fun, in Muku’s mind, to be scared in a safe environment, with friends, knowing that once the movie is over or they’re through the haunted house, he can laugh about it all with his friends. That being sad…he definitely, definitely gets scared easily by all those things. Jump scares never fail to make Muku jump and let out at least a loud gasp of shock, but often more of a soft scream. He tenses up whenever spooky music comes on, knowing what will come. Particularly scary moments have him hiding his face with his hands, relying on his friend’s to tell him when it’s safe to look again.

Kazunari is almost always Muku’s horror pal. He shares a very similar attitude towards horror-based things as Muku, in that those types of safe scares can be really fun and a great way to bond with friends. He goes out to the haunted houses every year, with various groups of his friends. Horror, to Kazunari, is just all in good fun. He’s not often got by jump scares, as he’s learned when to anticipate them, but he gets caught up in terror at sudden, loud, and unexpected noises. The sound of a sudden scream right at his ear by a scare-house actor or the sudden revving of a chainsaw in the parking lot of a haunted house? It gets him every time.

And then we have Misumi. When it comes to Misumi…well, he’s pretty much goddamn unflappable. Seriously, some of his other Troupe members are convinced it’s impossible to scare Misumi. Jump scares will just have Misumi turning to look at whatever’s surprised him, blinking a few times before he lets out a soft ‘huh?’ like he doesn’t really get what’s going on. There’s a bit of a bet going on to see who can be the first one to really terrify Misumi. So far, nobody has yet to win the pot.
