Ooh I really love video game music, and classical music!
I guess the first one is kiiinda predictable, since I'm a Mini-game NPC, but after playing violin for a while I have come to enjoy classical music a lot more. It's especially fun to play!

Aside from drawing, what other hobbies do you have?
Writing is my main hobby. Mostly original, but I also write fanfiction, and all kinds of mediumsā€” screenplays, books, poetry, video game scripts. After that, I do a lot of photography and photo editing in general. I guess this facilitates my hobby of walking a lot to get good photos. I make sure I get at least one good photo every day. I also play video games for leisure (not well, but I do!), and do a lot of fashion related things (Iā€™m not so good at sewing, but in the process of learning.) like making jewelry and doing hair/coordinating outfits based on characters for fun. Right now, all my outfits are based on X-Men characters. Fashion is very, very, very deadly important to me.
I had more varied hobbies as a kid, but Iā€™m in college and also employed, so I donā€™t have so much time now. I used to do competitive ice skating and musical theatre. Itā€™s no biggie though, because art, photography, and drawing make me the happiest in the world. Especially writing. Iā€™m glad to devote so much to it.

Not a band kid but want to read the Marching AU?
Then Iā€™ve got the post for you! This one! Hereā€™s what marching band/DCI is all about in the simplest terms I can put it aka its time to channel my inner High Brass Section Leader During the First Week of Band Camp again. Also I'll try not to infodump too much, oops. I can guarantee it'll be long, though.
People who do know instruments and are looking at this for fun, enjoy. But be aware that I'm taking this simply so I may describe things in a way you disagree with.
First things first! What is marching band?
Marching band is a group of people who decided it would be cool to walk in a certain way so they could play their instruments and make shapes on the field, lol. If you've ever been to a football game, they're the musicians who go on the field during half time.
It has its roots in military bands, thus the uniforms looking the way they do and marching in time and always starting marching with your left foot. Bands have played for football teams for ages and the early 1900s was about the time they started to make shapes while they played.
Many high school marching bands compete against each other. Yes, there are even state and national level competitions! Other high schools just do "show bands" aka they don't compete, might go to some festivals, and are mainly there to help the crowd have fun. They also tend to be at least a smidge more relaxed than competition bands can be.
All bands involve a variety of wind instruments and a drumline. Many bands also have a colorguard and/or drill team that performs with them. More on them later.
DCI
DCI stands for Drum Corps International. A drum corps is a marching band with just brass instruments and percussion. DCI also has color guard members. Sorry, woodwinds. Specifically, DCI is an organization that has a variety of bands all across the USA. Throughout the summer, they put together marching shows and compete against each other. The season ends with nationals to see who did the best that year. It's an intense program, involving "touring" around to various competitions and quite literally eating, breathing, sleeping marching band. They actually have an age cap at 21 but if people, say, 22 or older wanted to keep marching there's the DCA which is similar but not the same.
(They've got a website and there's plenty of YouTube videos out there if you're interested in learning even more!)
Who's Who?
Band Director
The person in charge. They're the one that decides what the band will be doing and when. They teach music and marching and everything else in between. They delegate a lot of things to the band leadership (aka the people below).
Drum Majors
The people out there waving their arms. They're conducting the music to help keep the band together as well as marching at the right speed. They also help teach things and check that things look good. They don't march on the field itself, usually, though stuff they do can be involved in the show. The thing they stand on is called a podium.
Section Leaders
Each type of instrument is called a section. Section leaders guide the other people playing the same instrument as them. They will hand out papers, help demonstrate what the band director and drum majors are saying, run sectionals (aka moments where the band divides up into instruments to practice) and so on. They do a lot to help boost morale. Also, they're usually in charge of attendance, lol.
Squad Leaders
If there's a lot of people like in my college's band, sections might be split further into squads. In the case of my school, squad leaders help make sure everyone feels included. They also help pass out papers the section leader hands to them, run parts of sectionals, and help demonstrate. One of them will step up if the section leader is out of commission temporarily.
Marchers
A marcher is just another term for someone in the band who's out there performing. Since they're not, ya know, conducting with the drum majors or anything. Section and squad leaders are marchers with additional duties, basically.
How To March
Roll-stepping
Remember how I said marching bands step a certain way? That's called roll-stepping. Basically, it involves pointing your toes high so your heel hits the ground first. Then you "roll" your foot until your toes come off the ground. Repeat with the next foot. This is how bands can play without the music sounding like everyone's walking around.
Rollsteps come in a variety of sizes, the most common being an 8 to 5. That just means it takes 8 steps to get 5 yards, since 8 counts are common in music and there's 5 yard lines all over the football field. Roll-stepping also involves your feet hitting the ground at the correct time and on the right foot. Don't worry, it soon becomes second nature and you don't even have to think about it as you learn a new show.
There's also a fancy thing called a jazz run. I never learned how to do it in HS but I know it exists. It's a way to run while marching. Trust me. It's basically running on your toes and making sure the top half of your body doesn't bounce too much.
Where To Go
You might be thinking, "Okay, cool, I now kinda know how they march. But how do they know where to go?" Great question! Band directors have sheets of paper that are designed to look like the football field. On it, it has where everyone is supposed to be, how long in the music it'll take to get there, and so on. This is called a drill chart/sheet. These are given to the drum majors and section leaders as well, so they can help people find where they need to go.
Each marcher is assigned a designation based on their instrument. For example, I am T11 this year. This means that I am the 11th trumpet player. (For reference, we go to T39 this year.) The person to my right when we make a square might be T13, since they try to keep instruments in the relatively same spot.
That's not always the case, though! During our pregame show (aka when we play the fight song and the Banner and all that since this is a college marching band), I'm between H4 (H as in French horn) and R8 (R for trombone since the trumpets took T). So on and so forth with the rest of the instruments.
There's a sheet of paper for each shape made on the field until the entire show is clear. Marchers get a condensed version of this called a "dot/coordinate sheet" (since each spot you have on the field is a "dot" since that's what you look like from far away). Dot sheets only have your dots on them, though they do have how long each move is. You practice with help from the dot sheets until you memorize where you need to go and don't need to reference it as much anymore.
Different Directions
I'm gonna keep this one as simple as possible. There are ways to stand so you can still face front while moving sideways. You can also move backwards in a variety of ways. Some of these involve rollstepping while going backwards. Others involve being on the platforms of your feet. Either works, but it depends on the band director's opinion for which one a band will use. The main goal is to always face front, unless...
Direction of Travel Marching
Sometimes a move will be "d.o.t." (not to be confused with a dot). This just means that, instead of facing front, you face the directon you're going. At the end of this move, the marcher faces front again and continues on as normal.
If a d.o.t. move is particularly long, a single drum major will usually be on the back sideline to help everyone stay on beat. The other drum major(s) will stay in the front for when everyone moves back.
Music
Marching bands can play all kinds of music. I've done classical, jazz, rap, pop, rock, salsa, 80s hits, and more. Usually, you don't see a marching band have music on them as they perform on the field. At certain points while practicing, they will! Almost all music performed is memorized, but while learning dots, a marcher will have something called a lyre. This is a little folder that holds the music and attaches to the instrument. This allows them to write notes to help them remember where to go and when.
Basic Field Things
The side you're playing towards is called the front sideline. The other one is called the back sideline or back field. If you're gonna face the endzones, most band directors just say "face the endzones." There are also marks where they set the footballs to begin play. These are called hash marks. They're used to figure out where you stand, but otherwise aren't really relevant.
Instruments
Instruments used in marching band arenā€™t the same as the ones used for concert band. As I said, Drum Corps are made of brass, percussion, and color guard. Marching bands, on the other hand, also include woodwinds. The Marching AU is a sort of mix between both a drum corp and marching band organization, so itā€™s based on my experiences in marching band but set up with as much of my knowledge of drum corps as it can be.
In other words, itā€™s mainly based on what Iā€™ve experienced but itā€™s only brass, percussion, and guard, no woodwinds. Sorry to everyone who wanted to see their fave play a woodwind in this AU. It's unfortunately not happening.
Brass Instruments
High Brass
High brass is called as such because they have higher ranges of notes they can play in the overall scheme of things. This is similar to violins, sopranos and tenors, and flutes, just specifically within the brass section.
Trumpet
Alright, weā€™re starting off with the instrument I play for marching band (no this isnā€™t biased, what are you talking about).
Here's a cropped version of me holding mine during a game day section group pic. Don't mind the scribbled out school logo:
Tumblr media
Trumpets often are given the melody of the song, though they are sometimes given accompanying parts (like if you're playing a song that's on the radio that uses trumpets for small fanfares, you bet you're gonna be playing the fanfare instead of the melody for that song). Trumpets are easy to hear amongst the band since they are bright and high. I love it but some people are a lil biased against us because certain people really love playing high every chance they get.
Marching French Horn/Mellophone
Fun fact! I also play the French horn for concert band. However, for marching band, things are a little bit different. French horns, normally, have the horn face the back. But when you're on a football field, you need it to face to front. As a result, they made a type of French horn that faces the front to march with! A mellophone can also be used. For the sake of simplicity, they are pretty much the same, you just use different types of mouthpieces, amongst a few other small differences.
Tumblr media
Bands who don't have marching French horns have mellophones and they sound very similar. They are good blending instruments aka they can play at the same time as a variety of instruments. French horns are grouped with high brass because they can play high, though they also could fit in with the low brass, depending on the song.
John Williams likes to use a lot of horn in his pieces, and not just as off-beats or long tones (what we normally get). Horn players like John Williams :)
Low Brass
Similarly to how high brass plays high, low brass is made up of instruments that play on the lower end of the range. In orchestras, instruments with similar ranges are cellos and basses. For voices, this is like altos and (also) basses.
Baritone
In concert band, we have something called a euphonium. It looks like a mini-tuba, in a sense. (Tuba and euphonium players, pls don't @ me.) Baritones are essentially the marching version of a euphonium. Or at least that's how it was explained to me. This is what it looks like:
Tumblr media
Much like a marching French horn, the bell is facing front instead of a different direction (up in this case). Also, this picture makes it look small. It is not. It is twice as tall as a trumpet and twice as heavy. Sometimes they get the melody, but when they do, it can be tied to the rest of the low brass. They often play various accompanying parts or long notes.
Trombone
Trombones! The only brass instrument with one giant slide instead of valves (aka the button things) to press. They're pretty cool. Often, when the low brass gets the melody, these guys are loud and ready. They also play a lot of accompanying parts and long notes. They also have the ability to do something fun called a glissando which is kinda like when you brush your hand up and down a piano except it's a wind instrument.
Tumblr media
These peeps also get to do something fun called a trombone suicide, on occasion. Don't worry, the goal is that nobody actually dies. It's just a cool trick that involves bending and twisting over each others' heads to wow people. I'm not describing it very well. Here's a link to CSU doing it about a decade ago to help: here.
Contra
The most massive instrument you'll ever see on a football field: a contrabass bugle aka the marching tuba aka a contra. These things are MASSIVE. Imagine a tuba. Now imagine carrying it all on one shoulder while marching. Boom. One of the most impressive things you'll ever witness and they're not even marching yet.
Tumblr media
(This is the contra section from 2013 Carolina Crown aka one of the DCI corps.)
Many bands opt for sousaphones instead. They're the tubas that wrap around your body. Both my high school and college use them. But DCI uses contras, so this AU has contras. Go them! Much like the rest of low brass, expect them to be loud and excited when they get the melody. You can only play so many long notes before you go crazy. They deserve it.
Percussion
Percussion is split into two groups: drumline and pit. Some bands don't have a pit (like my high school). Most do, though, and we'll include them in this AU.
Drumline
For some reason, the most popular part of the band. Like, no matter what, if the drumline performs, the crowd goes crazy, even if they slept through the halftime show. Idk, it's odd to me. But drumline members are pretty cool.
There are multiple types of drums in a drumline: bass, snare, tenor/quads. There are also cymbal players. Basses are the only ones that come in different sizes. They also make slightly different pitches.
Tumblr media
Drumline's main job is to help keep the band on beat and also to sound really super cool. They also get to do fun tricks with their sticks (or with the cymbals) because their instruments are attached to a harness that lets them use both their arms to play.
Pit
Ah, the pit. Sometimes also known as the front ensemble. The people in the marching band who are playing instrument but not doing any marching. Gotta love them. They play a variety of instruments you usually see in a concert band. Most of them tend to be mallet instruments (aka things like marimbas or xylophones or vibes).
Many DCI shows will have a drumline and a pit feature (whether or not those are separate depends) because they're that cool. Sometimes, they bring in instruments not usually used in pit for added affect like electric guitars or recorders.
Tumblr media
Here's the Bluecoats pit performing off-field. It looks pretty much the same thing on field, just with the rest of the band behind them.
Color Guard
Have you ever noticed people waving flags around on the field? That's the color guard! That's pretty simply what they do: dance and march with flags to the music the band plays. They can also use a variety of other things like sabres (aka fake swords), rifles (also fake, lol), ribbons, hula hoops, and whatever else the color guard director desires.
Sometimes instead of a color guard, there's a drill team. This just means a dance team that may or may not use pom poms. Other times, the color guard itself dances to the music. They are given additional roles to unfurl giant flags over the band at times and add a lot to the show.
(For one of my favorite guard performances, check out Drum Corpse Bride by The Academy. Here's a bad action shot of it:)
Tumblr media
and now, onto...
Uniforms
Most band uniforms are pretty forward, even if they have silly names. You always have a base layer. This is usually something everyone has access to, such as a band shirt (that may or may not showcase that year's show) and some sort of shorts or pants.
Then comes the pants. Fun fact! They're actually overall-like things, and they're called bibbers. They usually zip in the front and have adjustable leg lengths.
Then comes the jacket. Pretty straight forward. Zippers are often hidden and depending on how complicated the zippers and various clasps to keep it closed and tidy are on it depends on how likely you are to need someone to help you zip up.
Many bands put pieces of fabric on the arms of the uniform over the jacket. These are called gauntlets. Yes, like the armor piece. Vague military history and all that. All bands will use gloves as well.
Next comes the hat. It's called a shako and the feathers that stick out of it are called a plume. The plume is detachable, so you can wear the shako without it. All hair must be tucked into the shako at all times it is worn. Don't worry, there's an adjustable string inside to help it stay on your head properly and find the room for hair. There's also an adjustable chin strap.
Marching shoes do indeed exist. They have a rounded heel to help you (supposedly) roll step better. They're very durable since they have to go through a lot, lol. When practicing, marchers just use tennis shoes, though.
Some uniforms have capes that'll attach. Others will have shakos that look more like helmets than hats. It all depends! That's the fun part. Drum major uniforms will also look different than the bands' uniforms. Often, this is with the color of the bibbers, but not always.
Tumblr media
Color Guard uniforms are a lot like dance costumes, in a sense, with leggings. They can also use a type of marching shoe or jazz shoes. Their uniform will either match the show's theme or look similar to the band's uniform.
This is the Sand Torrents' uniform. It's pretty standard for a marching uniform. If you'd like to check out the shako and/or the rest of the uniforms in this AU, check under the marching au tag!
Miscellaneous Band and Music Terms
Call Time: The time you're expected to be there. For rehearsals, this usually means ready to begin warmups on the field. For performances, this usually means in full uniform
Drill: When used as "the drill" this just means the show and the specifics within it. Could also be used to refer to the drill chart. It depends on context
Visuals: Any fancy stuff added to the drill. This could be lunges, dancing, horn flashes (aka moving your instrument to a different angle) and so on
Horn angle: Instruments must be held at 10 degrees above parallel to help the sound travel better
Block: To be in block means to spread out on the yard lines to go over basics
Basics: Quite literally the basic skills of marching. These can be used as warm ups once they've been mastered. They're used to help make sure step sizes are right, that everyone remembers how to do different moves correctly and so on
Slides: How you stay facing front while marching sideways
Cleaning the drill: Making sure everyone's marching is looking good and making the shapes its supposed to
Parade Rest: Much like military parade rest, not quite attention but not at ease.
Attention: Ready to play at a moment's notice. This involves the top of wind instruments being perpendicular to the ground and hands in position to play
->->->->Without instruments, attention is having your right hand over your left with your arms at a 90 degree angle. This is how you march when you're learning the show without your instrument yet.
Horns Up: Bringing the instruments up into playing position
Horns Down: Bringing the instruments down from playing position and back into attention
Relax/At Ease: No longer being obligated to stand at parade rest or attention. Do whatever you want (within reason... please pay attention).
Competitions: Much like competitions for other events, bands are judged and given feedback. Awards are usually given for best overall, best sound, best marching, best drumline, and best color guard
Rehearsal: Practice time :)
Set: A lowkey way to call the band to attention ("You should be set"). OR the movement from one place on the field to another. Basically, a subset of the music
And that's everything! Thank you for reading this gigantic article of a post. Hopefully that'll be enough to get you through the Marching AU with some knowledge! And don't worry, it's not a quiz -- you can always refer back to this as you read.
If you have any further questions, feel free to ask! Whether as a comment, a legit ask, or a dm, I am always down to answer questions about marching band!

fav french media? (films, books, shows, games etc)
OH I LOVE THIS QUESTION THANK YOU SO MUCH šŸ’–
Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll forget a lot of things and smack my own forehead in shame afterwards, but this is what comes to mind right away:
Literature:
Anything ever written by Victor Hugo is a masterpiece. This dude was a terrible human being, but he sure knew how to write, and he contributed to major changes in the social conscience of his contemporaries on many important topics (including but not limited to the death penalty and child labour). To give you a taste, here is my favourite poem ever, which he wrote, because of course he did.
My favourite piece of literature across all categories, though, is and forever will be Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand ā€” the story of a man who convinced himself his unusually long nose makes him monstruous. The concept sounds so silly, I know, but this play is a masterpiece and a wonderful love letter to the French language.
Which brings me to my favourite comic series: De Cape et de Crocs by Alain Ayroles and Jean-Luc Masbou! Basically a twelve-volume-long fix-it fic, disguised as a tribute to French literature. Also, a beautiful bromance.
Visual arts:
Basically everyone in France can quote at least one line from Kaamelott, a comedic (?) series derived from the Arthurian legend. It is so well researched and hilarious ā€” until it isnā€™t.
Iā€™m sure thereā€™s like, a very obvious movie choice that will come back to me in a minute, but I was raised on Disney and Scooby-Doo, so these are clogging my brain at the moment. Just give it time.
When I was very young, I would watch TV at my grandparentsā€™ and enjoy Les Hydronautes, an animated series about an extraterrestrial explorer documenting the Earthā€™s marine wildlife in an effort to learn how to better protect her own planet (Aka There Are Many Benefits To Being A Marine Biologist: The Series), as well as Cā€™est pas sorcier, a series of very fun documentaries on a plethora of subjects, from lavender farming to volcanic eruptions.
Obviously, Miraculous gets a place on the list too! šŸžšŸˆā€ā¬›
EDIT BECAUSE I FORGOT: Fantomette the animated series! This show is single-handedly responsible for my taste for smart women with amazing hair who ride motorbikes and kick ass. It even had Egytpology as a key part of the plot.
Music:
For me Formidable by Charles Aznavour is a classic, a very cute song, and a great place to start if you want to learn French!
A few other favourites include Fanny Ardant et moi by Vincent Delerm, Le DĆ®ner by BĆ©nabar (extremely funny to listen to while thinking about the Diamondsā€™ Dance) and Jā€™ai cherchĆ© by Amir (This one isā€¦ Borderline when it comes to grammar, but cute enough that I grin and bear it. Also, it got us an honourable ranking at the Eurovision a while back, which is rare enough to be celebrated).
ALSO. I complain too much about bad translations and poor writing (see previous bullet point) not to show you kids how itā€™s done with Je vole from Aladdin (a genius play on words which delves into the two significations of the verb ā€œvolerā€: to fly or to steal).
Video games:
Long ago, before I discovered the wonderful world of Nintendo, I would wait patiently every month for the new issue of Toboclic. This game had everything: cute animal mascots, stories, mini-games, arts-and-crafts suggestions, catchy songs, interactive documentariesā€¦ Iā€™m sure my parents still have the CDs somewhere, but they probably donā€™t run anymore, which is a shame. I miss my friends.
Thank you so much for the ask, this was so fun to write!
@dragongutsixofficial please do this too so we can compare notes! šŸ‘€šŸ’–

dances w the aot boys
learning dances w the boys! i had fun thinking of the lil hcs for this so i hope you have fun reading it! also, thank you so much for 500 followers! šŸ„¹ i really appreciate all the love that yall show me through reblogs, comments, likes, and just reading my stuff at all. it really means a lot! <3
anyways, enjoy and i hope yall continue to stick w me and my stuff from here on out! <3
Tumblr media
EREN
ā€” doesnā€™t believe you when you say itā€™s something you wanna try w him until youā€™re up during the day watching tutorials and tells him to join
ā€œyouā€™re kidding.ā€
ā€œcmon~ you never like to do stuff with me!ā€
ā€” your whining gets to him and the both of you start off with a ā€œsimpleā€ choreo
ā€” he realizes he isnā€™t as in shape as he thinksā€¦ at least not for this
ā€œfuck, iā€™m tired.. can we take a break now?ā€
ā€œjust one more please?ā€
ā€” yall do one more dance that he might actually like but he doesnā€™t let you know that until you catch him doing small parts of it while doing chores around the house
ā€œiā€™m super shy, super shy..ā€
ARMIN
ā€” secretly heā€™s been wanting to try some dances with you since discovering some groups heā€™s really liked but heā€™s too insecure about his dancing to actually let you know that
ā€” luckily for him, you chose a dance that he already has an idea on how to do, to the point where heā€™s doing it better than you
ā€” and if you have trouble, heā€™s helping you
ā€œi give up.ā€
ā€œnope, get up. letā€™s try one more time.ā€
CONNIE
ā€” heā€™s a really good dancer anyways and goes to the dance studio regularly but heā€™s beyond excited when you tell him that you wanna learn some choreo w him
ā€” but you make the mistake of letting him chose the song and he chooses something very easy for him, but very difficult for you
ā€” but when itā€™s time for you to pick, everything is reversed and heā€™s pouting bc he canā€™t learn the easy choreo fast enough
ā€œcanā€™t be good at everything, con.ā€
ā€œwhateverā€¦ā€
ā€” even though you enjoy spending time together, you donā€™t go with him to the dance studio when he asks bc you know heā€™s trying to really show you heā€™s the better dancer after all
REINER
ā€” heā€™s too shy, even in the comfort of your own home
ā€” when you try to encourage him to try it out at least, he thinks he can do it until heā€™s knocking down everything bc he canā€™t control his body as well as you do
ā€” he quickly comes to a realization that dancing is definitely not his thing so he just sticks to watching you dance around and occasionally hyping you up
ā€” but when youā€™re not around and heā€™s home alone, heā€™s trying to practice his skills so he can have enough confidence to show you later (maybe itā€™s not good but heā€™s trying just for you)
JEAN
ā€” sometimes he just flat out refuses until you give up on asking and if you donā€™t give up on asking, heā€™ll eventually give in
ā€” he does all the dances halfassed so you wonā€™t ask him to do it anymore. itā€™s not like he doesnā€™t wanna spend time w you, dancing and that style of music just isnā€™t his thing
ā€” but he does support your interests and like reiner, will hype you up in the background
ā€” but sometimes when heā€™s playing the game w his friends and hears the video playing in the other room, heā€™ll hum along to it without even realizing

hello everyone ! my name is jae ( she + they ). i am bringing to the table my boy : choi minki, resident gamer boy, attendant at 8-bit, and who has only been in ansong for about four months. i have a few links below, so feel free to give them a look. ( don't come for me i still need to make a pinterest board for him, and i will, eventually. ) i'd love to get some cute plots going with him and your muse, i definitely prefer discord for plotting so i'll be willing to share it, thanks !

minki arrived in ansong about four months ago, dazed and confused like many others when they first arrive. his head felt like a mess and he was happy to at least remember his name but everything else seemed so far out of reach when he tried to think at all.
he has only unlocked one core memory as of right now and it was triggered by the the slightly damaged polaroid photo he found among his things. it's a picture of himself when he was young alongside his mother. the woman holds him close and their smiles are one and the same, mirror images of each other in their happiness.
he is never seen without a small silver braided bracelet with a small fox charm on it on his left wrist. sometimes it's hidden by his excessively large hoodies and tries to peak out as he moves his arm.
of the things he remembers about himself superficially, he recognizes a love for video games, so it just made sense to apply to work at 8-bit. minki works as an attendant and can be seen tinkering with the machines when they're out of order, or trying to sneak in a few games himself when he thinks his manager isn't watching.
minki has felt drawn to a guitar since he first laid eyes on one about two months ago, he saved up to buy one. though he doesn't remember learning to play, he does seem to have some innate prowess and can instinctively play a few chords and sometimes at night if you leave your window open you might hear him strumming absent-mindlessly.
when not at work at the arcade or holed up in his apartment for far too long, minki can be found some nights at illusion nightclub. he likes the atmosphere, getting lost in the energy of the dance floor, and mingling with new people. he's been known to take a few classes at divine dance studio from time to time and looking for new music at beat street music.
he's been juggling with the idea of possibly enrolling in classes at ansong university but he hasn't committed to any major quite yet. a few majors he's considered have been computer science, music production, or dance. maybe he'll pick one, who knows.
š™¢š™žš™£š™ š™ž'š™Ø š™„š™šš™§š™Øš™¤š™£š™–š™”š™žš™©š™® š™—š™”š™Ŗš™§š™— ;
minki has always been an extroverted type. he will talk your ear off if you let him, he could literally talk for hours upon hours about everything and nothing if you let him. he can be quite bubbly and is always looking for new friends, the type to attach himself to you when he first bonds with you. you will find that you've accidentally adopted him and have no choice in the matter if he decides he likes you. will drag you out when he wants to go out with someone.
always looks for a new adventure or something fun to do when he's bored, which is often. this means he can be a bit reckless and the type to act first and ask questions later to his obvious detriment.
his mood can change in an instant, one moment he can be upbeat and lively and the next he becomes moody and distant. strangers will be hit with whiplash while his friends know to expect random mood changes.
a daydreamer and absent-minded, if you find him staring off at nothing, don't be worried he's just lost in his head thinking about something cool fictional escapist fantasy. he might even tell you about it if you manage to get him to focus back to reality. good luck.
will pick up new hobbies and drop them just as fast. he became interested in learning to ride a skateboard recently and he's got bruises on his knees and ankles to prove it. we'll see how long he stays interested in it before moving onto something else.

A Review of Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon
I just finished up my 13th play through (this is the most Iā€™ve ever replayed a video game), and I know Iā€™m technically reviewing this game but there isnā€™t really anything I can say that hasnā€™t been said.
The controls and movement is smooth, and while thereā€™s a learning curve itā€™s incredibly satisfying. Boosting requires you to manage your energy. It can be depleted, but will also recharge after a few seconds. But in the incredibly explosive combat of AC6, every second counts. Energy weapons also requires further energy management. Different generators can make things easier, and different thrusters can determine how you move and how much boosting uses up your energy. But you also need to worry about weight management on your AC. Your legs can determine how much you can carry as well as how you move. Ultimately youā€™ll need to spend time looking at stats and testing things out in the garage, but thatā€™s part of the draw of Armored Core. Fine tuning your mech.
Combat is hectic and fast, feeling more like dogfights than anything. Both parties are pelting and trying to outmaneuver each other in a hope to stagger their opponents and get a chance to deal massive damage. Unlike in soulsborne games, there is no invincibility frames in AC6, so dodging is used to dart away from incoming damage and mitigate it, not negate it. Youā€™ll also have different ā€œcore expansionsā€ which can give you shields, cover, or an extra means of damaging enemies.
Every part has some use, and while there are weapons that are obviously The Metatm and you can get through a lot of missions with whatever build you feel really comfortable in, different situations will reward different things and youā€™d be surprised at how satisfying it is when replaying missions to bring different weapons and set ups directly catered to the task. Every weapon has at least one situational use. Fighting in an open space with no roof? Vertical missiles. Enclosed space? Grenades or napalm. Opponents have pulse shields? Use pulse guns to destroy the shields. Also use flamethrowers, songbirds, and the wheelchair tanktreads on the ā€œEscort The Weaponized Mining Shipā€ mission you will thank me.
The customization and image making system is incredibly freeing and allows for a ton of self expression. Itā€™s incredibly fun. Youā€™ve probably seen some funny looking mechs circulating through the internet in the last year.
Ultimately, the game wants you to experiment with different builds, and even allows you to save up to 160 presets, gives you the presets of every enemy AC youā€™ll encounter in the story, and even allows you to download up to 40 builds that other players have uploaded online (sadly only on the same platform as you though).
As far as music goes, itā€™s super good. Fromsoft pretty consistently delivers, but the Armored Core soundtrack is different from their lineup from the past decade. Fitting of a SciFi setting, the AC6 soundtrack features heavy use of synths and droning sounds. There are some exceptions of course. Itā€™s not EDM music (I doubt anyone is breaking it to Coral Guardian or C Weapon) but itā€™s probably somewhere within Techno.
As for the setting, itā€™s somewhat par for the course with Armored Core and to an extent the mecha genre itself. A hypercapitalist world where the average person has few rights, the ultra rich wage wars, and mass murder is not only entirely acceptable but is in fact encouraged if it turns a profit. Uniquely though, hyper-industrialization is a thing as well, and the landscape is peppered with inconceivably massive sprawling megastructures that can reach into the sky. There are some firsts for Armored Core as well. The series usually takes place on earth or places importance on its (always) ruined state. In 6 though, earth is completely out of the picture; itā€™s not important. Instead the game takes place on Rubicon 3, which isā€¦ somewhere in the galaxy. Interstellar travel is commonplace and for the first time in Armored Core, sapient aliens appear.
For themes, thereā€™s always a feeling of isolation (as is normal for the franchise), but a not insignificant amount of attention is given to the idea, and importance, of choice and human will. There is importance to your decisions and the human will to live and desire to be free is a strong one, and ultimately you are in charge of your destiny and what you want to do.
All in all, 10/10 game. Please play it and make the funniest mechs ever.

(i hope this is the correct format now !!!! šŸ™šŸ¼šŸ™šŸ¼šŸ™šŸ¼ its the same thing soo)
hii i would love to have a go on your match up event!! it seems really interesting ā€¦ the fandom is hsr !!!
im a libra sun scorpio rising, pronouns are they/she and im a esfp! im afab omnisexual (no pref) and demiromantic.
my personality is mainly carefree, sociable and chill. i can be chaotic and talkative, but i have mood swings often and can change to a entirely different person: quiet and aloof. i appear secretive and closed off at first but i love talking to people. i appear to be extremely chaotic, childish and energetic, but iā€™m very mature. i donā€™t hesitate to help people, and iā€™m very independent. it looks like i donā€™t care about what other people say about me, but im extremely insecure about myself. i strongly desire to express myself freely, without holding back or being made fun of. i appear to be optimistic to others, but iā€™m a pessimist, hating on myself for whatever i do. i can be quite unstable at times and can throw tantrums sometimes, but all it takes to calm me down is giving me my favourite food. iā€™m very clingy as well. iā€™m a perfectionist, working extremely hard to make my art look nice + studying hard 24/7. i overwork a lot, to the point i forget to take care of myself. anyway my self esteem can change a lot. i can go from comparing myself to others to being confident in myself. i overthink a lot. when i get angry i appear to be sweet still, but my tone and words are very much aggressive and rude. overall im a bubbly and sociable person ^_^
MOVING ON my interests are food, art, music (esp metal & rock genre), anything cute, bizzare and unknown things, and video games. i enjoy going to arcades, shopping, going to concerts and cosplay conventions, and lastly DRAWING!!! my fashion style is jirai kei, ryousangata and subcul jirai kei. iā€™m learning how to play the guitar and some piano. i donā€™t dislike many things, i just hate cockroaches, a few bitter foods and heights. i do taekwondo and a little bit of badminton.
love language is gift giving, quality time and physical touch.. i donā€™t like being touched though unless i initiate it.
SORRY THIS IS SO LONGā€¦ ty and have a good day !!!! or night
HEYYY THERE CUTIEPIE sure are right on track, and so here you have your matchup, oooohhh
.
.
.
DAN HENG
Talkative partner x quiet reserved boyfriend trope on TOP!
Ok ok I get it you might say he's boring, and he's this and that blablabla
But listen I think he would balance your chaotic and childish personality out without watering it down.
Is very caring of you and kind of worried when you get burned out, so he will scold you
Two pessimists meet and the world collapses of the negativity /j
I think he'd go out shopping with you, he wouldnt complain nor like say anything, just follow you along, answer questions you ask him and occasionally ask some himself
Also he will very much try to boost your confidence, he's very subtle but adds small things like "you look pretty today" "I like your jeans" "beautiful." Just like small things through out the day when he sees you
He also likes that you can be independently mature and childish when the time is right
He appreciates that a lot actually, and thinks of it as a positive trait
Also expect more quality time and acts of service from him, gift giving here and there, and least of physical touch but he will give it to you if u initiate it

Tuesday Again No Problem 4/30/24
This week's Tuesdaypost contains: electronic music, stupid youtube videos, me being tormented by spiders in Rain World, and an extended ramble about my OCs. (Maybe skip the Playing section if you don't want to hear about the spiders...)
Listening
Not much to say on this front, I've still been listening to the Rain World soundtrack. I've also been dipping back into my Repeat Rewind playlist on Spotify and remembered a couple of songs that I really liked a few months ago:
youtube
youtube
Watching
I've (unfortunately) been spending a lot of time on Youtube lately (mostly to listen to in the background while I play Rain World- more on that in the Playing section)(also yeah I guess that should technically count towards the listening section, whatever).
I got a big kick out of Drew Gooden's newest video about how the Cybertruck is stupid:
youtube
As well as Strange Aeons's new video about Blingee:
youtube
Playing
I've been messing around in Rain World's Expedition mode (basically: a challenge mode with permadeath- if your karma drops below 1 the run ends). I started a Spearmaster run the other day with a challenge to visit Looks to the Moon, which ended up being a much more difficult challenge than I anticipated.
It took me three attempts- and on my third attempt I got all the way up to Moon's Struts before I started being harassed by a gang of Mother Spiders. It was there I learned that my Switch doesn't like Mother Spiders very much.
Very very long story short- Mother Spiders kept getting into my shelter, and I was desperate enough for food to kill them and deal with all of the Coalescipedes they spawned. This meant I ended up with a whole bunch of spider corpses in my shelter, which tanked the framerate. I had to spend several cycles cleaning the spider corpses and spears I used to kill them out of my shelter. I died several times, and I did eventually start save scumming (if you close the game before the game over screen in an expedition, you can restart the cycle at karma 1). I'm not proud of it, but god damn it I was so close to Moon and I was not in the mood to start the expedition from scratch for a fourth time.
I did eventually get inside Moon's superstructure. I paid a visit to her puppet chamber before I reached the vista point and beat the expedition. It was smooth sailing once I eventually got inside, but god damn, I think I'm going to see Mother Spiders in my nightmares.
I regret not taking more screenshots of Moon's interior, but I got a couple at least. She's very pretty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Making
I've been toying with the idea of turning some of my OCs into iterators for fun. I have a few very rough sketches, and I'm contemplating their lore. I'm really struggling with their names, though; it's hard to come up with something that sounds nice but also is at least tangentially related to their personalities. I'll keep thinking about it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(In order: Rhode, Lilith, Theta, and Rhode again)
It's kind of fun to adapt their (admittedly messy) backstories into Rain World lore. OC rambling below:
Very shortly after Theta's activation, they developed an extreme phobia of being watched or interacted with. They subsequently put their entire superstructure into lockdown and cut off all communications with the outside world. They're completely unresponsive, and the only indication that they're even still alive is the periodic rain from their can.
Rhode is Theta's neighbor and only friend. She developed a passion for learning how to manipulate iterator software so she could circumvent some of her own taboos. She used this ability to hack into Theta's communications, and ended up being the first to successfully talk to them after they went silent. Rhode is in a relationship with Lilith.
Lilith is Rhode's romantic partner. She was built as an engineering facility and used her knowledge to restore functionality to some of her own systems after an earthquake destroyed her structure's legs. She helped Rhode figure out how to circumvent her taboos, and spends her time trying to help other iterators with their mechanical problems.
So, in short, they're a local group with two lesbians and their weird goth friend with debilitating social anxiety.
I want to try and finalize their designs and figure out canon-compliant names for them, because I have a couple of fun art ideas. I'm working on it. (It's kind of funny that the solution to my worldbuilding roadblock for my ocs was to put them in the setting of the game I'm currently obsessed with.)
--
I'll check back in next week, thanks for reading!

5.) first sentence of the fifth paragraph of an unpublished WIP 18.) if you keep them, share a deleted sentence or paragraph from a published fic 19.) the most interesting topic youā€™ve researched for a fic
24.) how do you recharge when youā€™re not feeling creative?
30.) share a fic youā€™re especially proud of
Tumblr media
*cracks knuckles* alright let me get to digging for these *opens several docs*
5. 1st sentence of the 5th paragraph of an unfinished wip. hmmmm (*hides face* omg the 5th paragraph in just about every chapter of both active wips is short dialogue. ....I don't know what this says about me)
Have no fear, I found something that isn't a random dialogue that would make zero sense without context:
The worst part of it all, Del had pointed out once his tears had run dry and his intensity had been drained to a place of eerie zen, was that they couldnā€™t do much of anything.
18. This one required some digging because when I discard things from a wip it gets messy on where the words land. But I do have a few fragments that got tossed in the scrivener 'trash bin' instead of straight deleted. This was the beginning of a chapter in Starborn Saga that never ended up making the cut. At the beginning of the third act when Starborn! Sam is in a certain facility I originally planned on having a break between Lila and Goose's conversation and his exit where this (and more that was never written) would be.
Where the fuck are you, Raphael? Sam waded through the muck and debris of the ruined facility. He had the frequency meter hooked to his belt, his tombstone at the ready for anymore locals that might pop around the corner. He wanted to do the right thing here. For all the times he just shot his way through a locale, he felt it wrong to leave Raphael behind. Though with how this universe was, it might be a kindness to let him cease to exist. But what would they think? He could just see Ethan and Lilaā€™s faces if they learned he didnā€™t even try. So he made another pass through the ruined facility looking for the doomed scientist. One more pass before he gave up and took the elevator down to end the lockdown.
I just couldn't get the scene to flow in a way that held attention. It felt like too much. so it went into the bin.
19. most interesting thing I've researched for a fic...I got two. One is actual research and the other was just a really interesting thing I discovered.
a. the most interesting thing I've researched for a fic is dancing for Ranger and the Deputy. both salsa and tango. I watched instruction videos, read about the moves, and watched a lot of dance videos from competitions and what not. This doesn't mean I know how to do either dance but I can now better understand the movements and patterns when watching a video. At least enough to write it. I think...I also ended up finding a deep love and appreciation for salsa and tango music. I'd always enjoyed it but like passively...I have playlists saved now levels of enjoyment from the research.
b. my interesting find is that in Fallout 4, where the map is shrunk down from the IRL Boston region of MA, it took around 6-7 hours to walk from the Dugout Inn in Diamond City to whereabout Greentop nursery sits up near Sargus Ironworks. This includes engaging enemies that attack and not sprinting. I then went to google maps, found Fenway Park (Diamond City) and plotted a course to where I think Greentop Nursery is supposed to be (approximatively) thinking I'd get a far bigger number....NOPE! Google says it would take around 6 hours in perfect lab conditions to get from Diamond City to Greentop. Fun little tidbit.
24. I don't have a good way to do that, actually. I try to play video games or find a different outlet to try to stimulate the creativity but a lot of times when I feel in a creative funk I just end up 'pacing the cage' bouncing from site to site moping at my desk. I should get better at not doing that...
30. A fic I'm especially proud of...*stares in panic* you want me to showcase one of my works heehe haha yeah! *clears throat*
this is hard because I'm very scared to toot my own horn but I am pretty darn proud of Ranger and the Deputy. Brainstorming started in November, first upload hit ao3 at the end of December and I uploaded the last chapter in the middle of March. The whole thing came together quickly and I'm pretty darn proud of the story arcs. Especially the third. I'm letting those two rest now...I'd like to work with Kitty and Ranger!Del again but I have other ideas to get out first...

Could you make headcanons for Cheslock in modern times, please? Like, what he usually does after school (or uni), how will he flirt with the person he likes or something like that. I really want to see what he's like in modern times. Thank you šŸ’–šŸ„¹
of course, modern AU is always fun! <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Definitely much more openly punk in the modern era because he doesnā€™t have to hold himself back. (Not that he isnā€™t nonconformist in the Victorian era, but.) Heā€™s got several more piercings, a couple more tattoos (in addition to the music note on his ankle, he also has one on his wrist which reads, I can. I will. end of story. and a skull with roses on the opposite forearm), and wears more revealing clothing. Itā€™s all tank tops, jeans, and shorts and he isnā€™t the least bit ashamed about it. His hairstyle hasnā€™t much changed, though!
He tends to just hang out in the dorms after heā€™s done with classes or in between classes. His home is about an hour away from uni, so heā€™s not usually up for the drive unless itā€™s a holiday or he really wants to see his mum and sister. Not to mention, his fatherā€™s an abusive arse, so thereā€™s no way Cheslock is going to risk that daddy dearest is going to be home when he visits unless he has to. He rooms with other creative types, like upperclassman Gregory Violet, so his flatmates donā€™t really mind him practicing the violin or other instruments in the dorm.
More than once heā€™s just decided that, fuck it, heā€™s learning the material fine in one class that happens to be fairly early in the morning. Heā€™s got notes. He gets all his assignments done, and he can get notes from one of his classmates whoā€™s a morning person if he needs to. And then that day he sleeps till noon and regrets nothingā€¦ especially if he happens to have a S/O who slept over so he gets cuddles and possibly morning sex as long as his flatmates arenā€™t home.
He loves flirting with people, even if heā€™s not expecting anything serious ā€” if it turns that way, great, but sometimes itā€™s just fun to flirt without any strings. How he does it varies on what kind of person heā€™s trying to flirt with, honestly. A fellow music enthusiast will be treated to him playing an upbeat, fun, romantic pop song from his phone in the hopes that they can talk about it. Someone shy will get him making a joke about something nearby, crossing his fingers that heā€™ll get a laugh out of them. He does tend to be quite cheeky and playful with the way he flirts, regardless. His end goal is always to make someone smile or laugh, so that they associate him with a positive feeling.
ā€¦ Secretly, or not-so-secretly if he knows someone well, nerds out over video game soundtracks. To prove that fact, he wrote one of his papers on the music of Undertale, complete with him performing a medley of songs on his violin for one of his graded performances. And brought several people who were also familiar with the game to tears during the end where the leitmotifs from ā€œSAVE the Worldā€ and ā€œHis Themeā€ came in. Video games are his second passion, so applying his foremost passion of music to them is a winning combination. He canā€™t just be normal about a good video game soundtrackā€¦ even if his friends literally beg him to SHUT UP about it already!!
Not as much of a drinker as one would think. Heā€™s not a teetotaler, he definitely does drink, but throughout his entire university experience, he got drunk maybe three or four times. Something about the feeling of being hammered just doesnā€™t appeal to him, even though he likes to drink and is fine being a little tipsy. Mainly itā€™s probably that he doesnā€™t enjoy the feeling that heā€™s not in control of himself, so he tries to avoid getting outright drunk. Of course, when he does get drunkā€¦ well. Gregory has a video on his phone of an intoxicated Cheslock loudly and publicly singing a stupid love song in the common room, sloppily kissing his S/O and declaring that he ā€œfuckinā€™ loves ā€˜emā€. And another video of him passed out snoring in his S/Oā€™s lap. Yeah, heā€™s never living that down.

Info!
Hey! I'm Vance, a transmasc guy who likes to draw and listen to music. I use he/him pronouns. I AM A MINOR! I'm 13, so I'm allowed to be on here, but I'm still young and kinda stupid. I don't interact with stuff 18+ because I'm savouring my childhood innocence before it gets shipwrecked through health class this year ^^. If you're accounts a minor dni account but a normal post, like fanart that's not dirty, if yours shows up on my for you and I interact with it, I probably didn't click into your account and see that, so don't block me or do block me, idc, just don't yell at me or smth. Idk, anyways- this is just some info about my account and what I plan to do here. Sorry if my grammar is bad, I'm a reader, not a writer. I also type very fast.
As a little summary if you don't want to read all this,
I draw (horribly), listen to music religiously, talk about my opinions on things and my hyperfixations. I'm currently pretty into Rick and Morty, Gravity Falls, and RTC.
Now for the essay of details. Yay!
Tumblr media
I mainly draw my hyperfixations, which I'll talk about next. I only draw people because I suck at drawing animals and objects. I'm still learning since I literally just picked up drawing again after not drawing since I was 10-ish. I can't really draw anatomy and hair is so complicated! I try though, and if you have any art tips, please share! They all help! I mainly do traditional since my tablet is small and I have little to no experience with digital art. I've been trying to save up for a drawing table but money's tight :<
Tumblr media
Ah yes, my hyperfixations. I'm in quite a lot of fandoms, so here's a list of the main one's that I'm into right now,
Rick and Morty
The Outsiders
Bully SE (yes, I know it's a video game from 2008, I don't care, it's fun to play)
South Park
Heartstopper
Astronomy (yes, I count astronomy as a fandom, sue me)
Good Omens
RTC (Ride The Cyclone)
And many more! I take requests for these fandoms.
Tumblr media
I'm heavily indulged in music, and I'm not exaggerating, I have a 60+ hour playlist. Speaking of which, is on Spotify and is called, A Transmasc Guy's Favorite Songs šŸ’«. It has a Crowley meme as the cover. Very funny. If you're interested in finding new music or playlists that can go from Hozier to Ghost to David Bowie, then this is your playlist! Just a warning though, I've had this playlist since I was 11, so some songs might get outdated. I'm too lazy to go through it and remove songs. Maybe one day I will. I welcome music requests with open arms! I love finding new music. Also, French music is soooo good.
Link: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5vH1LV9iBSPWgoe9sOxSMs?si=UuVuFMwmSkeqlx-5fp1a-A
Tumblr media
Last, but certainly not least, is questions and requests! I'm open to asking questions about myself and opinions on fandoms, music, games, stuff like that! Please don't ask anything political or be rude (transphobic, homophobic, racist, etc.). For requests, I accept art and music requests! As I stated under fandoms, I draw my hyperfixations listed, but I draw others aswell, depending on the fandom. Feel free to leave a request for any fandom and I'll do it if I can. Requests might be slow, but I promise I'll get to it! You can also state if you just want line art, a colouring, shoulders and up, full body (might take a long while) and if you want traditional or digital! Just a heads up if you do, my drawing skills aren't the best, especially with anatomy and hair, so be aware. I also have limited colouring supplies for traditional and ability for digital, but I'll try my hardest!
And remember, I am a MINOR.
Thank you for reading all this and if you're interested, then follow, if you'd like of course. I know basically no one is going to see this, but for those who do, I hope you stick around. Obviously just don't be rude it disrespectful. Have a lovely day! - Vance, aka StarmanGeek

When the game starts, youā€™ll be taken through a series of hypnotic deepeners that will feel extremely relaxing and will establish some hypnotic triggers including: Empty (clearing the mind), Deep (strengthening the trance experience and feelings of relaxation), Follow (instantly and automatically follow suggestions that you wish to experience), and Sleep (not actually asleep, but letting yourself experience complete relaxation of your mind and body). Now fully in trance, you have won the game, and the grand prize will be to go even deeper. The trance ends with you picking a prize between curtains #1 and #2 which will either help you to leave trance feeling fully relaxed and chill if youā€™re trying to wind down for the day or more energized and vibrant if youā€™re looking to be productive afterward.
~ Channel Info ~
100% SFW (but not necessarily made for kids). New videos every other week (or at least, thatā€™s the plan). Each hypnotic adventure will be labeled and the descriptions will be detailed. Hypnosis is NOT one size fits all. Sometimes going into hypnosis takes practice. Keep in mind, these files can reinforce positive affirmations in a fun way, but if you want to seriously explore an issue in your life, look for a trained hypnotherapist in your area.

Kingdom Hearts (2002)
Tumblr media
for as long as the internet has been around, people have been bitching about video games. it's hard to imagine now, but back when kingdom hearts was first announced, people were both confused and outraged. it's admittedly a bizarre premise: it's a final fantasy action rpg, but with... disney characters. is this some sort of out of season april fool's joke? kingdom hearts, very much like wind waker, became the laughingstock of the internet... until the day it came out and promptly shut everyone up.
KH's infamously batshit overarching plot is actually not too bad in this game; sora and his best friends riku and kairi want nothing more than to see other worlds outside their tiny little island. be careful what you wish for though cuz evil shadowy creatures called heartless might invade your island and fucking BLOW IT UP!!!! at least sora has a cool looking key sword thing now. after the fall of destiny islands, sora is stranded in traverse town. he vows to find riku and kairi and try to find a way to restore his home. also donald and goofy are there too and the three team up, with them now ALSO looking for disney castle's king (guess who). along the way, riku shows that he has never seen a disney movie and manages to get duped by the villain of sleeping beauty, and now he's basically the edgy rival character. and there's this guy named ansem going around doing stuff. uh oh. so yeah, still a bit convoluted, but it's refreshingly straightforward compared to literally any of it's sequels.
the combat? i like it a lot, actually. as mentioned before it's an action rpg where you play as sora, swing your giant key around to battle the heartless, and use magic. it would get boring and repetitive after awhile, but there's like a bajillion abilities you can learn, either new actions or passives, which keep things fresh the whole way through. stuff like parrying attacks and being invulnerable when you cast healing spells, and many, many others. there's even cryptic choices you make at the beginning of the game where you can prioritize strength, defense, or magic, (changing your starting stats and the rewards for leveling up) and then choose one of the other two to give up. dont be like 9 year old me and take the sword and give up the shield. just. dont. it's no dark souls when it comes to having hundreds of builds, but it does reward repeat playthroughs with all the options you can give yourself.
the combat is good fun, but the level design and platforming needed some work, and this is where the game aged the worst. some levels like the tarzan one are really confusing if you're first playing the game, and whenever sora has to make a series of jumps, i fear for my life. i guess you could say they're more open and ripe for exploration than in kh2, which are usually pretty linear areas that are hard to get lost in. of note in the hall of shame is the little mermaid level, which is a water level, and all the baggage that comes with it. not only that but all the areas look the fucking same, it's not clear how to progress, and there's a grating MIDI of under the sea playing almost the entire fucking time. MAKE IT STOP!!!!! MAKE IT STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! other than that though the stages are pretty fun, i like the nightmare before christmas level and hollow bastion the most.
the music, done by yoko shimomura of street fighter 2 and super mario rpg fame, is quite good. the title track "dearly beloved" is a short but somber and effective piano piece that's there to let you know that this isn't your grandma's disney interactive game. and if that doesn't cue you in that something's up, "destati", the loud, omnious choir music that plays in the tutorial area, totally wont terrify you if you were an 8 year old disney lover who just wanted to have a fun happy time with mickey mouse. not that I was that kid or anything... "kairi" is a gorgeous little song that keeps being remixed over the course of the game, sounding more emotional each time. and the boss themes are epic as fuck, namely "forze del male" which will play as you get your pathetic ass handed to you by riku ninety times in a row gOD DAMMIT RIKU STOP FUCKING USING THAT DBZ TELEPORTING SLASH MOVE.
they can't all be winners though; "traverse town" is iconic at this point, sure, but at the end of the day it's still a 30 second loop you have to hear over and over AND OVER AGAIN. and there's the aforementioned "under the sea" midi. at least traverse town's battle theme "hand in hand" goes fucking hard tho. and of course, there's non-binary icon hikaru utada's "simple and clean". enough said. really. actually no WHEN YOU WALK AAAAAWAY YOU DONT HEAR MEEEEEE SAY PLEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGOD FUCKING DAMMIT NOW IT'S GONNA BE IN MY HEAD FOR THE NEXT EIGHT HOURS.
this review has gone on way too long so ill just wrap it up by saying kingdom hearts is one of the best action RPGS on the PS2 (and in general, really) and is an inspirational tale of how despite a premise for something being a hard sell, sometimes if you let them cook, they can come up with something truly magical. unless your game takes 8 years to make, but is named after an obscure tiny toons character, is a hero shooter 5 years after everyone collectively got sick of them, and gets shut down after a week after twelve people buy it. hahaaaaa, topical!
9/10
NOTE: the superboss kurt zisa is named after a guy who won a contest before the US version of the game came out. i thought it was just some name they came up with willy nilly but no, there's an actual guy in this country named kurt zisa. imagine if i won that contest instead! ooooooh watch out for the ultra scary and powerful secret boss... apple pecan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! squeak :3

Tumblr media
Today officially marks my 5-year anniversary of starting gender-affirming hormone replacement therapy! It's been a real good five years, overall. A mixed bag at times, for sure, with my old shitty job and then me losing my job and getting into extreme debt, but on the bright side I'm in a great relationship, I've got some fantastic friends, and I feel like I am my own person now and all that good stuff's got a lot to do with my transition.
Anyway, to celebrate I decided to take a whole day off work and play a bunch of video games! Quick impressions on like the half-dozen games I played at least an hour or so of today, in no particular order other than the order I played them in today:
Lego: Lord of the Rings
I'll be real, I was not the biggest fan from my first impression. I grew up with Lego Star Wars, and still love that game to this day, but a new Lego game for me...? The gameplay is pretty simple, which is fine but not necessarily the most engaging.
Worst of all though is adding voice acting. One of the best aspects of the Lego Star Wars games was that they had to get creative with how they told the story, focus only on the really important details, and come up with unique ways for characters to express themselves. By ripping the dialogue straight out of the Lord of the Rings movies instead, it cuts a lot of the Lego charm that I loved so much in those games growing up.
Probably not going to play much more of this one
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun
RIP AND TEAR
Holy shit, this game slaps. Like, I'd heard lots of good things, but now that I've played it I can really feel just how good it is. The pixel art intro is amazing (though a little long-winded for my taste I feel), the graphics of the core gameplay are absolutely beautiful, the music and sound feels so good to the ears, the shooting feels so clunky and satisfying... All around, an absolutely awesome experience.
I am definitely going to be beating this one at LEAST once through.
Lethal Company
Far from my first time playing Lethal Company, but yeah, this is a real fun game. The mix of horror and goofing off with friends just makes for a real fun experience. Once you start learning the creatures' behaviors and they stop being so scary, it really does become just a fun, goofy, silly time with friends in which you ocassionally get extremely freaked out by something suddenly killing you when you don't expect it.
Absolutely playing more, of course.
Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin Edition
I've written about this game before on my blog, it is one of my favorite games of all time and I absolutely adore it. I didn't play for a whole lot today, mostly just booted it up and played until I died, but that made for a satisfying little taste of the game again. Without the social aspect of me playing this game with my friend Jon back in college, though, it definitely doesn't have quite the same appeal.
I don't know if I'm going to play more DS2 anytime soon. I played so, so many hours of this game and explored nearly all its secrets, I don't know how much more playtime I've got in me.
XCOM 2
I've been playing this game for the past few weeks, actually, and fucking loving it. I adored the original reboot XCOM and played it tons, and I picked up XCOM 2 shortly after its release, but I didn't actually give it a real good playing until recently. It's fantastic, but man is it rough to play. You lose a couple of good soldiers on one mision and it feels like everything starts chain-reacting til you've lost the whole run.
Definitely going to be playing more. I want to see this game's ending at least once.
Slay the Spire
Quite possibly my favorite game of all time, I love Slay the Spire's everything. Its game loop, its art, its music, the whole package is absolutely fantastic.
Absolutely I'm playing this game more. I also cannot wait for StS 2.
Cube Escape Collection
Alright, so my first exposure to this series was my neice playing a Cube Escape game on her ipad in, like, 2014, and then I didn't think about it again for a really long time. It was just some weird little puzzle game for mobile apps for kids or whatever. But then I saw this game on steam one time on sale, thought the name sounded familiar, and decided to pick it up. So far in first little experience, it's chill. I do enjoy me a good little escape room puzzle, for sure.
Probably going to play more, but it might be a while before I pick it up again
Monster Prom 2: Monster Camp
I loved Monster Prom - its fun characters and silly setting make for a really entertaining time. I finally got around to trying out the sequel. It's good, though mechanically it felt like largely the same core loop. It's not a bad loop by any means, and of course the real appeal is in the new romanceable characters, but I didn't find myself really falling too hard for any of them on an initial runthrough like I did with Polly in Monster Prom.
I might play more. Might try at least one run to date Aaravi cause they seemed fun.
Highschool Romance
Holy shit this made me feel things. The premise of a boy has to crossdress to fit in at an all-girls school feels kinda silly at first blush, but it really feels like the game takes it seriously. I dunno, when the game put me in a situation where I had to make a decision between revealing my identity to the girl I was interested in or keeping it a secret, I had to just pause the game and step away for a few minutes. The game really got me in to feeling like I was there in the character's shoes, caught in the headlights of a near impossible decision between trying to keep my secret a little longer or coming out when I didn't know how she'd take it. I tried keeping it a secret, but it didn't exactly end up working out, and she found out. But she was cool about it. And she even wanted to kiss me, which was pretty hot.
I'm absolutely about to play the fuck out of this game.
Ocean's Heart
Didn't play this game for long, but I got just enough of a taste to say it seems really promising. Got a lot of the 2D Zelda genes in it and from my short time with it, it feels pretty fun to play.
Definitely going to play more of it, but I think it's going to go back onto the backlog for now while I focus on other games.
