4. What are some words or phrases you feel like you overuse?

... Oh wow, we start with the hard ones, huh? 😬 Mugi, I swear, just with this answer I'd have enough mateial for a whole post, and a VERY long one 😂 But I'm gonna try not to do that and say... Well, for the words, precisely the word "say" and its many synonyms (such as "ask," "respond," "exclaim"...), as well as the word "look" and its many synonyms ("gaze," "glance," "stare"...), definitely win the prize. I struggle SO MUCH when editing my translations so they won't sound too repetitive because of these words. As for phrases... I feel that I always describe the characters' emotions and reactions the same way. For instance, they're always "short on breath," or their heart "skips a beat," or they're always putting "a hand to their chest," or things like that... And they're ALWAYS smiling, and the way I describe their smiles, again, feels the same every single time 🙃 I'm well aware I'm probably the only one who notices, but being a perfectionist writer as I am, it's one of the things I definitely need to improve.

11. What makes a fic 'successful' in your opinion?

Hmm this one is quite interesting 🤔 You know, the first thought usually has to do with the numbers, like, it'd be the most obvious thing to think that a story that has success is the one with the highest number of notes/kudos/comments/whatever. And maybe in the past I would've agreed, but not anymore.

To me, a fic that is successful is a fic that can make people happy no matter when it's been posted. It's a fic that can make whoever reads it feel things, so much so that some people even feel like rereading it at times. It means that the story stuck with them when they first read it, and I've learned that this can happen even a year after said fic was published. All in all, that's what matters to me the most: that what I write can make people happy. Even if it's just one person that enjoys the fic, then I'll consider it to be successful. It fulfilled its mission.

17. What is something you recently felt proud of in your writing?

👀👀 I can clearly *see* what you're doing with this question, my friend... I'm afraid you're not as sneaky as you may think 🤭😌

Still, here's my answer: I'm proud that, even if I'm mostly a VERY slow writer and usually spend months working on a story before I feel ready to finally post it, at times I can actually do the opposite and write a short story in just a few hours, AND feel happy and proud with the outcome. Oddly enough, this has happened to me with the two most recent Mareach fics I've posted, Bubbles of love and Clear morning, as well as with Bliss, the short story I wrote inspired by @bberetd's most recent comic.

And now that I think about it, I also didn't take too long writing Where is my brother? 🤔 I guess that, when the words start coming, I simply obey, sit down, and don't get up until I've written them all 😌📝

18. How many WIPs do you have and how many do you expect to finish?

Oof, this one's a bit tricky 😅 There are a few WIPs that I haven't talked about publicly yet, and as for now I'd rather keep it that way (I prefer to wait till I've worked a bit more on them or even till they're finished). And adding them to the ones that I have mentioned at times... lemme do the math... 23. Okay, that's honestly more than I expected 😅 I need TIME to bring them all to life oh my God.

As for the ones that I expect to finish... I mean, hopefully all of them 😅 But speaking in terms of a near future, let's say three. If everything goes according to plan, the first one will be ready next month! 🤞🤞🤞

23. What's a story you'd love to write but haven't even started yet?

Oh I have this one VERY clear: it's the story that narrates my girl Violet's birth and everything that happened before that. A GREAT part of it is inspired by Luigi's Mansion, which is among my most favorite series in the Mario franchise, and so many things happen that I get excited just by thinking about it 🤭 And I swear I do it on a daily basis at this point 😂 So I know when the time finally comes to start writing this fic, I will have a BLAST 😁

For the fanfic writer ask game: 💥 and 🤖

💥 What is one canon thing that you wish you could change?

I usually like to stick to canon or at least adjacent to it? Many of my stories will generally follow principles in canon because I don't like to alter very much about it. Even the end of Super Mario Odyssey, which dashed the dreams of many Mareach shippers, I'm still on board with because I am obsessed with the uncertain space before a relationship starts. Almost every one of my fics is essentially the same story of Mario and Princess Peach navigating that space. But if there is one thing I would change about the Mario canon, Super Mario Galaxy 2 would be a proper sequel to the first game in terms of the story 😂 I sort of know the background to both games and why SMG2 doesn't have as immersive of a story, but despite having more well thought out levels and gameplay, it can never outdo the first game for me.

🤖 Are non-fandom friends aware that you write fanfic?

Yes! Most of my irl friends know that I'm a writer. But there are tiers to how much I let them know, in a sense. Some of them only know that I write and nothing else. Some of them know that I write fanfiction, but not what for specifically. I've told a few in that group only about my Star Wars or Studio Ghibli fics, as those are on the more "socially acceptable" side of things for a whole adult to be writing about. And a very rare few know that I write Mario stories. It's not necessarily a measure of how close I feel with them, because it's not super duper important to me for everyone to know I like Mario x Peach so much that I've spent years writing about them. It's more of a measure of how much I perceive them to be accepting and discreet. Not that I'm ashamed of writing what I write, but I would rather keep it within my private life and not my professional one just yet. Some of my closest friends have no idea what I write about, and they will hopefully never know until I get around to working on my original ideas. I love them, but I just don't see my fanfic as a facet of me that they need to know.

My partner also knows what I write about. He's not a big reader, but he'll listen to me talk about my ideas all day long. It's funny; I spent so many years waxing romantic about a dream guy with curly brown hair and dark blue eyes, who is devoted and determined, as well as extraordinarily kind and who loves deeply, only to find myself with a guy who has curly brown hair and dark blue eyes, who is devoted and determined, as well as extraordinarily kind and who loves deeply 😆 That's called manifestation, baby 🥰

Okay, I can see where the cool is coming from now, and I appreciate that you and others have been getting a kick out of my stories! I really owe a lot to the artists that dream up the art and concepts that get the gears turning in the first place. As cool as selkies and Koopa curses and a fusion with goo can be, none of those would've entered my brainspace without all the cool people I've met on here. i keep seeing a lot of people make headcanon dump posts, so i decided to make one of my various luigi headcanons myself! heres to anyone who wants to read this post! i hope none of you mind the tags, and i apologize if i bugged you!

- luigi has autism spectrum disorder, he was diagnosed at a young age along with marios adhd diagnosis. he also has generalized anxiety disorder and sometimes depression, but he has found many great ways to cope throughout the years.

- luigi LOVES cows. any animal he doesnt know the name of would be called "cow". he uses this as a placeholder word, and he doesnt express the fact he doesnt know the animal directly.

- anytime luigi is overly scared, nervous, shy, or excited, he tends to have a stutter. for him, its hard to find many words in this state.

- you may think luigi is just a plumber, but he also has many different hobbies! these include mechanics, arts, sports (especially tennis!), photography, gardening, and even music!

- luigis favorite colors are green and "porpol" (his pronounciation, not mine).

- luigi is bisexual. he has a strong romantic relationship with princess daisy, but fails to admit it to anyone other than his loved ones in fear of judgement. he also has had interest in prince peasley, but unfortunately wasnt able to talk to him about it before they departed.

- luigi hates loud noises, which led to a childhood fear of lightning and explosions. thankfully, his fear of that significantly lessened thanks to his thunderhand.

- luigi posts polterpup content EVERYWHERE on social media. he may be a cat person, but polterpup is a STRONG exception. have i mentioned he loves his pet ghost dog with all of his heart?

- luigi is generally a pretty emotional guy. barely slamming his hand on the wall? crying. getting a game over in a video game? crying. watching a sad moment in a babies show? crying. just arrived at the doctors office for a checkup? crying. these were mostly exaggerations, but the fact that luigi is emotionally in touch when needbe still stands. this, of course, is a positive thing.

- pancakes is luigis favorite comfort food. he simply stims with joy just ready for a bite! he especially loves it with syrup and blueberries! mmmm... now im hungry!

- when luigi succeeds in battle, he breaks into the sickest dance moves. dont ask me why.

- luigi has a strong feeling of fear, almost anytime he feels it. its either "oh, this is scary :(" or "OH MY GOODNESS I AM PISSING MY PANTS IN TERROR I NEED TO DO SOMETHING OR ESCAPE OR ELSE IM GONNA PASS OUT!!!". absolutely NO inbetweens.

-luigis body has a hard time adjusting to temperature or sudden gait changes. goes out in 50° fehrinheit for a millisecond while wearing a baggy jacket, and hes shivering like a wet dog. he loses the cat powerup after using it for not even 5 minutes, and hes tumbling around as if he were incredibly drunk.

- speaking of drunk, luigi almost never drinks alcohol. he always drinks non-alcoholic alternatives unless on VERY special occasions such as his own wedding or a "our lives are saved again thanks to the bros" party.

- luigi prefers to not be the leader in groups. it makes him very anxious anytime he has to take that role, especially if its a larger group of unfamiliar people.

- luigi is so so so ambiverted. he doesnt want to socialize with new people as he prefers sameness and familiarity. but, when hes with people he knows such as mario and friends, he talks more than youd see in an eminem song. craziest part, hes actually great at making new friends.

- luigi enjoys storytelling. like mentioned in the last headcanon, he enjoys telling people he knows about his day or any sort of scenario that popped up in his head.

- luigi has a high iq, as he can use his logic quite well in tight situations. mario and luigi brothership shows that far enough.

- luigis thunderhand can be helpful, but sometimes it can cause more harm than good. hes normally invincible to his own attack and just lightning in general, but when hes under strong enough emotion, it can lead to his invincibility shield dissipating and him getting hurt.

Poll time!

Hello mutuals, followers and anyone who's interested. I want your opinion on something I've been thinking of for quite a while.

My most popular post so far is a very tragic, angsty piece of Mario fanart, I Was-a Too Late (in case you haven't seen it, you can find it here, just mind the CWs). As of now, it has 515 likes and over 600 notes total.

And hey, personally I quite like this one too! Which is why for a long time now I've been thinking of drawing a comic based on this concept. Maybe not a huge, very complex one, just... some ideas I could try to connect? But due to my lack of experience in writing and drawing comics, I still found such a project pretty intimidating.

But today I posted my first real comic! A much shorter one than what I'm planning, so I managed to squeeze the entire scene into one long page. Still though, while it required some work, I enjoyed drawing it and so far it's only received extremely positive response. So I feel more confident and encouraged now. You can see it here if you haven't already.

So, whaddya say?

Not saying I'm basing my decision entirely on your answers, but they can influence it😉 Idk, it's October and there's this thing called Angstober so... I'm kind of in the mood for some angst. It’s officially 2025 where I am, so…time for a lil’ reflection and appreciation post of my own!

If you told me two years ago I’d find myself with a whole silly lil’ Tumblr blog and three fics on Ao3, I’d have a hard time believing you 😅 Over the past year, this community has become more than just a fanbase where we rave about Mario, express our love for characters and post about our gaming experiences. It’s a place where we share bits of our lives, celebrate the goods and seek and give support or a listening ear through the bads, and pour out our individual talents. Writing and sharing the fics I’ve wanted to write has taught me the good that can come from online communities and the positive influence fan-work creators can have on others. And it’s also changed me as a writer and moved me to be more confident! And I’m so grateful for the change I have undergone throughout the year because of all that.

I haven’t shared much about my personal life, but 2024 was a mix of great achievements and growth but also loss and change for me. I graduated college with a bachelor’s (tho it was tough and partially put my fic-writing on hold). I completed my multi-chapter fic and pumped out another fic, which I once never envisioned myself doing. But I also lost my grandmother along the way, which- although it wasn’t unexpected- has left a big void in our lives, especially during the holidays. Although the loss and its aftermath froze my writing productivity for a bit, part of what kept me going afterwards was knowing my grandmother would have wanted me to. She always loved to read the stories I wrote for my classes and supported me in my endeavors to become a writer. She would want me to be happy and continue doing what I love. She would want me to continue writing for myself, sharing my fics with the world, and eventually turning my passion into a career. So, that’s what I’ve done, and I think she would be proud of me ❤️

I wanted to say thank y’all. To y’all and to everyone else who’s reached out or said anything, thank y’all so much for your kindness. Maybe it’s silly, because I know I pretty frequently have episodes where I’m convinced I’ve ruined everything and everyone hates me (it IS my primary intrusive notion), but this particularly circumstance has had me on-edge for months, and things ending up the way they did— I already whined about it previously so I won’t start up again 😅

I apologize for being so vague about the whole thing; I wanna be honest about how it’s affecting me but I also wanna respect everyone involved’s privacy and most importantly, not drag anyone else into it. I wanna resume normal posting ASAP, because I miss y’all and I miss writing and I miss having fun he says, having been gone a whole three days, but I’m still scared to death of inevitably doing something else wrong.

Can I make a request? If I do or say anything out of line, please tell me. I don’t say this as a way of excusing any of my behaviors or anything I do wrong, but most of the time I sincerely don’t know when I’m pushing boundaries or saying something wrong or making people uncomfortable. If it ever comes to that, tell me to stop and I’ll stop, no questions asked. I can be obsessive and excessive when something’s bothering me, but I’d like to think I’m also reasonable and can handle being told to stop.

And if there’s anything else I can do to atone or to become more presentable and more agreeable, please don’t hesitate to tell me. I’m less concerned with my feelings getting hurt and more concerned with becoming a better person.

How could you call yourself a Mario brother?

Mario and Luigi were in hiding, preparing to time their strike against the enemy. Up until now, Luigi didn’t even know how he was still alive. He felt like he’d half-assed the entire adventure, just barely dodging attacks, getting hits, or Mario saving him at the last second. He wouldn’t even blame Mario if he was fed up by him.

This is why he leaves you at home. You’re too accident prone. You’re always endangering the both of you.

The only other adventure Luigi had been on was that unsettling mansion a while back. He tried using the same coping mechanism to calm his nerves throughout the journey — humming — but unfortunately, it only worked within the so-called comfort of a home. Instead, he was left with trembling beside Mario, clutching his head in a desperate attempt to ground himself while Mario, always so brave, looked on for danger or their target.

Stop shaking, stop whimpering, stop being a coward. Just hold still! Hold still, hold still, hold still, hold-

Luigi’s inner voice was interrupted when he felt familiar hands cover his own. Gently, those hands turned his head so their foreheads could press together. That was all it took for Luigi to settle — familiarity, warmth, solidity. After a few deep breaths, the brothers simultaneously opened their eyes, both mirroring the alertness for the current situation, but the overriding gentleness and love felt for each other.

We’ll be okay, as long as you’re with me.

They parted a few seconds later, sharing a firm nod before heading into battle.
