ill be honest as much as i love to criticise the use of fatphobia for comedy ill never be able to hold the fatphobic jokes in kung fu panda against it
like yea those movies are guilty of dipping into The Usual Tropes for a cheap laugh but not only is the character writing for the fat characters the strongest and most sympathetic ive Ever seen literally just the character designs of the pandas in the 3rd movie get me choked up sometimes. theyre all so appealing and clearly treated with the same care and attention as everyone else without copping out and making them Barely Fat. po is already a size that doesnt exist in film protags and hes still the thinnest person in that whole village and that meant a lot to me

Does this fit anywhere in this dumb AU? No
Would switching them out for, say, gohan and piccolo been more appealing to the dbz fan base as a whole? ...Yeah. lol yes.
Should I stop zooming in when drawing backgrounds? Absolutely.

To add to the discussion about plagiarization and misinformation, one thing I know that can contribute to complacency is how much time and effort it can take to fact check everything you watch. That's daunting for most people, let alone people who don't have as much experience with it or who deal with disabilities and executive dysfunction.
But there are some things you can do to minimize damages that are easier to manage on a more individual basis.
You don't have to necessarily fact check every single thing every creator says in every video in order to make sure they're 100% legit every time. I know not everyone has the mental bandwidth to do that sort of thing constantly. Generally it's okay to just practice some mindfulness and not blindly trust someone if you haven't vetted their claims personally.
What you can do is fact check yourself. Don't repeat stuff you hear from a video as if it is a fact unless you have looked into it yourself first to confirm that what the video said about it is true and that their sources are good. And if you source someone make sure you've vetted them specifically and checked their own sources on that particular topic or bit of information (and check that they even HAVE sources to begin with and aren't just copying their sources verbatim). You can't source every video essay you ever watch or check every single one for plagiarism, but you can source yourself and what you say, and make sure you're not spreading bullshit or citing the wrong person. If you find that you don't have the energy to do even that much in a given moment, then just keep the information in question to yourself for the time being until you do have the energy to verify it.
And some stuff that's generally just good practice: if it's a topic that you're particularly interested in, it's a good idea to seek out more than one video about it from more than one creator. The more diverse your sources of info on the topic the better, especially if you seek out more than just the popular stuff. Get a broader picture of it from a wide variety of people from a wide variety of demographics. It's a lot easier to spot stuff like plagiarism if you're looking at more than just one or two channels, and even if you don't spot it, because they're often good at hiding it, you at least can make sure that you're giving more obscure creators the same attention as well instead of only defaulting to the most popular wide-spread creators and content.
Seeking out more than one type of medium is usually a good idea as well. I know reading stuff like written papers or essays or books on a topic can be difficult for some people, but if you can manage it even just occasionally then branching out every once in a while is still worth doing because it gets you out of one particular information sphere and into another, reducing the chances of an echo chamber effect. If you can't bring yourself to do that much homework on a topic, then again remember to keep in mind that your knowledge about it is limited and could be wrong, and don't spread that info without doing your own research first. Videos are not inherently a bad way to learn about stuff, papers or books can be wrong, and plagiarized, and badly sourced, and can spread misinformation too, my main point is that it's good to avoid having your information come to you through a single choke point if you can help it.
It can be exhausting trying to hold every online creator accountable on an individual basis, I get that, so I don't expect everyone to extensively peer review every channel they ever watch, but at the end of the day you can at least make sure to try and hold yourself accountable first and foremost.

the symbolism of revolutionary girl utena is key to understanding what it’s even trying to say narratively and thematically. if you remove the symbolism, if you remove the ways in which the narrative obfuscates itself and abstracts what it’s saying, then what it is saying changes dramatically. if rgu was like ‘yeah lol and did you guys know that incest is bad’ or ‘maybe gay people are good’ or ‘hey did you know that csa victims are Real and Alive and Have Interiority’— like those are all paraphrases of things that it says, but the way that it chooses to say them is so powerful and conveys so much nuance and complexity that those simplistic statements don’t. it provides an incredibly meaningful commentary on the way that systemic violence and abuse are covered up, codified, made part of our culture that supposedly resents those things. it’s examination of incest, the incest taboo and how that impacts incest victims— it’s all so incredibly considered and layered because the show chooses to convey what it’s saying through symbolism, through its metatheatrical framing, through allegory. it retains the reality of these issues; it shows them to us only when we’ve already bought into the system’s lies to make a point about how that operates, how that works to make us all complicit in that violence. nanami. nanami.
dont even get me started on how the movie uses its symbolism to demonstrate how the abuse anthy and touga experienced is simultaneously built into the world and culture they exist in, and always obfuscated and abstracted for the sake of their abusers (also specifically the way that it engenders shame and prevents people from seeking help. rgu is so damn good at understanding how and why people don’t ‘do what they should’ in abusive situations: the systems in place don’t fucking work bc they are an extension of the system built upon that abuse). anthy is the model in all the paintings, the symbol of so many undesirable things, the canvas on which they are painted. her likeness is used as an approximation for all of these awful things, many of which are a part of her in a way, but such that her interiority, her feelings, are never regarded, never seen, never understood. she’s the model. akio is never explicitly named as her painter.

Can someone explain me briefly the situation about disco elysium being stolen from their original creators and what actually happened? Cause I saw a bunch of videos on YouTube and I literally didn’t understand a thing (I’m not a native English speaker, and those 2 hours long vids can really become difficult to follow🫠)

What reads/videos would you recommend that explain chara's relationship with the player more clearly for monkey brained folk like me? I'm gonna admit my reading comprehension is not the best and I'm having trouble understanding the meta aspect of it (mostly why chara doesn't fight back during the geno route if they really care for monsterkind that much). I'm 100% being dumb rn but you have to be dumb to be smart
i don't trust youtube with chara. at all. defenders and offenders. though tbh i dont trust youtube with UTDR in general.
andrew cunningham had an old written essay about them from way back that hit almost every metanarrative point i also share. the only thing i personally disagree with is his thesis that those points are non syncretizable. i personally see chara as a more fluid, dymanic character compared to rest of the cast in function of their role as player proxy; all 3 readings that he proposes are ways to accomodate it diegetically, within the story, and not. the essay's linked in his discord server, if you want to check it out!

I gotta make a post about this. It will drive me insane otherwise. But I really REALLY like the way in which Beavis and Butt-Head incorporates the music video commentary segments within the context of the actual show.
On one hand, it is indeed a way for musicians and creators to be promoted, albeit in a satirical and tongue-in-cheek way, through the banter of two ignorant fifteen year old boys. But this does not mean these segments are floating around unrelated. Actually, the commentary segments are completely intwined within the world of the show. They are not just used as opportunities to make pop-culture references and trash the musicians, but as a jumping-off point for Beavis and Butt-Head to get into off-topic tangents. Ranging from simple questions to sparse recollections of their home-life. I can't say this definitely since I haven't exactly been keeping track, but it appears to me that most of the sparse information out there about their moms and family come from statements made during these segments. Then there are also all those moments during music videos where they aren't even paying attention to what is on-screen and instead are doing stuff like looking at magazines, trying to cook, fighting, falling asleep, etc.
This all is such an odd yet interesting window into their lives, and how much it revolves around their television. I don't think this is unintentional at all. The characters are first introduced in the pilot, as being parked in front of their TV getting off on a woman advertising exercise equipment. Mike Judge is indeed making some kind of commentary here regarding the modern dependence on TV and cable television (especially in the context of the 90s when the show came out). At the same time though, I don't feel like this is a completely mind-numbing experience in the case of Beavis and Butt-Head. In fact, I find their interaction with the programs on television extremely "active" whether it be actually constructing opinions about what they are watching (even if it rarely is more complex than 'this rules' or 'this sucks'), or deciding to do something based off of seeing it advertised or talked about on TV. When you think about it, most of the plots of the show use the television as a catalyst for the episode's plot, which just ties the TV to the show as a whole even more.

And you never know... what could happen to one of us someday.
An edit I feel like I've wanted to make in some capacity ever since I first started editing. Song is "Mohan Kaitou" by NormCore, which you can listen to in full here! This video itself can also be viewed on YouTube, in 1080p and with soft subs that can be toggled on and off.
Many thanks to @blenderfullasarcasm for the English translation of the lyrics!
#detective conan#case closed#heiji hattori#shinichi kudo#conan edogawa#funimation english dub script#video#amv#my amvs#eye strain#blood#normcore#モハンカイトウ#i have so many thoughts about this video that i considered attaching an essay to this post...#but maybe it's best to keep things short and sweet and ramble in the tags instead ^^;#i guess the tl;dr is that while i don't know what the song is about#ultimately i wanted to focus on how much heiji and shinichi care about each other#that they both sense when the other is in danger (or going to be)#with heiji having the nightmare where shinichi dies (ep 118) and shinichi knowing instantly when heiji was thrown overboard (ep 174)#their friendship happens so suddenly and probably without either of them really realizing it#but it's real! and they each become a person for the other that they can't see living without#they don't want to become the kind of adult that doesn't have the other#and yet their jobs are dangerous... heiji is present for practically every antidote!shinichi appearance#he's constantly reminded of how being a detective almost got shinichi killed--he's almost always there when shinichi is about to transform#and of course shinichi sees heiji get hurt from detective-ing too#i wish so much that i had actual funi dub clips from 174 but alas i had to make do with faking it ^^;#speaking of faking it i actually have several episodes of detco on vhs and used genuine vhs footage for this vid!#...but damaged it more to make it look more like vhs footage asdfasfdasdfasdf#ahh anyway i love them... this was supposed to be a simple vid but i got carried away (so much masking!)#hope folks like it! i've been dying to post for days but had some technical difficulties ^^; and since i'm outta tags source list is on yt!
