Follow the rainbow, my lucky omen There ain't no pot of gold, just copper tokens I found the key to life, the lock was broken All my accomplishments, are best left unspoken I dug a hole so deep I'm gonna drown in my mistakes Can't even sell my soul 'Cause it ain't worth shit to take I got the devil on my shoulder (over and over) And I just can't sink any lower (lower and lower) The hounds of hell are getting closer (closer and closer) I got the devil on my shoulder (over and over)

Someone comes into Airy's office, and they get stared at, and then he misdiagnoses their issue/gives them a bunch of crackers saying, "You're hungry." No matter what you come in with, if it isn't a visible injury, Airy assumes you haven't eaten enough
Mephone4 and affiliated TAs probably run all the computer related classes as well, depending on curriculum, including coding classes, keyboarding, and classes that are just for certification (ex. Microsoft..?? Idk I took that class like last year. I miss coding classes, but the teacher SUCKED!!)
Mepad... we've all had the very, very tall TA who just wants to help, yeah? That's Mepad
Mephone4 DOES NOT want to do this with his life. He spends any time he can to watch reality TV and puts 'Just Dance' on for any grade level students
4S surprisingly would have knowledge imo. He'd call the students stupid and give them the harshest feedbsck, but he'd get the job done. Most definitely a shouter.
Floory would be along for the ride. Go, Floory, unqualified TA goals!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Animatic runs every Psychical Ed Class. Works students to the bone, does the workouts alongside them, and still has energy to be found taking a jog after school
Crayon box's subject was an easy pick... the crayons would be TAs, I just didn't have the room for them, so I gave her the earrings !!
Popcorn sucks at his whole thing. She'll assign roles and stuff but give no notes or constructive criticism. Always arguing worthless shit over the phone in class, something wild happening every other day
Daddy Longerson is band because Sacri makes music. Also, he doesn't play an instrument. He does acappella. (Cue the elimination theme)
Tumblr media
All of Clock's classes would start with "IT'S TIME FOR THE TIME," and then they'd say, "The world spins round, and time... time-"
Tumblr media
Underrated X fact, also why I think of em as genderfluid >:]
X relies on positive reinforcement for teaching, whereas Four goes for verbal punishment, etc. X still isn't good at math. Just relies on Four, but the students still like X more for being nice.
Donut was probably a substitute teacher, Two is off being a luncher, Announcer may or may not be the principal. Idk, I haven't seen bfdi, bfb, tpot, etc, just algebralien comps.

AOTY 2024
Full list here: write-ups for specific albums under th cut. Ranked somewhat arbitrarily.
1. What I'll Leave Behind by Void of Vision (metalcore) - absolute bummer that this will be the final album by these guys, but I'm grateful for the fact that I was able to see them a few times before they had to call it quits. Been describing this as like a song missing from the Saw 2 soundtrack or something that should have been playing at one of the clubs in Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines or something. I feel like that's accurate - alt metalcore with its nails painted black and a profound love of Nine Inch Nails. Strong lyricism drawn from real trauma, enough fun electronics to make them stand out from more generic metalcore acts, plenty of hooks and some sick breakdowns as well to keep things heavy. I hope Jack Bergin's brain never explodes again and retiring from touring helps him lead a long and healthier life. "Gamma Knife" is the highlight for me
2. For Your Consideration by Empress Of (Pop) - my favorite pop album of the year. Lorely Rodriguez is so insanely talented, this album has a pretty diverse range of sounds without becoming too inconsistent. I love that there's raunchy club bangers like "Femenine" right next to sappy love songs like "Kiss Me" and more introspective tracks like "What Type of Girl Am I?"
3. Sanshi by Ripped to Shreds (Death Metal) - very good year for death metal but I think this is my favorite DM record of the year. I've always enjoyed Andy Lee's projects and Ripped to Shreds has been my favorite of them for years but expanding to a full band has taken them to a whole nother level. Killer riffage throughout, insanely fun lead swapping between Lee and Michael Chavez. "Horrendous Corpse Resurrection" is easily one of my top songs of the year
4. Coup de Grace by Seeyouspacecowboy (Metalcore) - this was a big big SYSC year for me, in large part bc I ended up seeing them live so many times. Honestly initially I struggled with Coup de Grace because it leans harder into the dramatic, theatrical MCR/P!ATD style of emo than any of their other work, and that's not necessarily to my taste. This still makes the top 5 despite regularly skipping several songs on each listen because the rest of it is so damn good. Could not stop listening to it this fall. Safe to say it grew on me. "Chewing the Scenery" and "Subtle Whispers to Take Your Breath Away" were two of my most played tracks for the whole year
5. Aumicide by Atrae Bilis (Death Metal) - one of the most underrated death metal bands active rn imo. No sophomore slump for these guys, this record absolutely smokes from start to finish. It's heavy and it's nasty, but it still grooves. There's enough melody to make it addictive but they're still able to maintain the harshness that makes dissonant death metal compelling. "Hell Simulation" and the closing track "Excruciate Incarnate" are perfect examples of the balance they strike between those two modes
6. Children of the Moon by State Faults (post-hardcore) - 2024 was the year I discovered State Faults. Very much the experience of finding a band that is so much Your Shit that it feels insane that you're almost a decade late to the party. Children of the Moon is the best post-hardcore album of the year imo and it's not even close. These guys draw from an incredible range of influences to create some of the most affecting work in the genre - brutal and beautiful and profound. "Palo Santo" and "No Gospel" absolutely blow me away every time
7. Ridiculous and Full of Blood by Julie Christmas (post-metal? Noise? Julie Christmascore) - anyone already familiar with Julie Christmas' work does not need me to explain why she's such a powerhouse and anyone not familiar will be done a disservice by anything short of listening to her music for themself. All I can truly say about Ridiculous and Full of Blood is that it's one of the most dynamic, interesting albums of the year and I just hope to God she doesn't make us wait another 14 years for her next solo record. The band she assembled for this album is insane across the board, but in particular it was a delight to see her collaborating with Johannes Persson again eight years after the absolutely masterful collaboration with Cult of Luna. If you listen to only one song out of all the stuff I'm recommending today, let it be "The Lighthouse"
8. Absolute Elsewhere by Blood Incantation (progressive death metal) - everyone won't shut up about this album but in this case the praise is absolutely earned. Cosmic, atmospheric, brutal, spacey, heavy as hell. With a Tangerine Dream collaboration no less! Essentially comprised of two long songs, Absolute Elsewhere is a record you need to make time for, meant to be listened to in full to get the most out of it, but it's so, so worth it to take the time. A stunning, transportive piece
9. Lonely People [EP] by Love Rarely (post-hardcore/math rock) - my favorite EP of the year. A very exciting band, they fuse hooky, math rock riffs with post-hardcore intensity. Courtney Levitt's vocals are incredible - a combination of throat shredding shrieks and powerful, emotional clean singing that makes you instantly sit up and pay more attention. "Say Yes" was on repeat for me all year
10. Cutting the Throat of God by Ulcerate (death metal) - an absolutely crushing, depressive, beautiful piece of dissonant death metal. Undeniably heavy, but on this outing we see Ulcerate lean into some post-rock esque melodicism that elevates their sound even further. It's such an atmospheric album - grim and unrelenting, but strangely delicate in places. Top notch musicianship throughout, but Jaime Saint-Merat's drumming is just mind-blowing. The title track is a must-listen song for anyone who gives a shit about heavy music at all
11. Infinite Mortality by Replicant (Death Metal) - I noticed in my write-ups for the other two dissonant death metal albums on this list, I took a moment to highlight and praise the melodicism therein. That won't be happening for Infinite Mortality. That's not to say there's zero melody at all but to emphasize how much that's not the draw here. This album is an altogether darker, nastier, more menacing affair. There's a grime here, a dizzying, sinister undertone of violence. My first time listening to this record was as background music while I was reading Crypt of the Moon Spider by Nathan Ballingrud and there was a scene in that book I was reading during "Orgasm of Bereavement" where the combination of the sounds I was hearing and the words I was reading gave me a full-body sensory experience: goosebumps, a faint sense of nausea, slight dizziness. I can't think of a stronger album recommendation than that.
12. I Got Heaven by Mannequin Pussy (Rock) - ANOTHER BANGER FROM MISSY DABICE AND CO. Mannequin Pussy keep getting better and better and it seems like they're finally (deservedly) starting to blow up with this record. It's a joy to listen to - snarky, vulnerable, earnest, clever, joyful and pissed off in turns. "Loud Bark" is already iconic, easily one of the finest songs they've written in an already stacked career of certifiable bangers
13. Valerie by Tei Shi (pop) - my second favorite pop album of the year! Tei Shi's first independent release. The breadth of songs on this album is incredible - bachata inflected pop kicks the album off with the explosively catchy "QQ (QUÉDATE QUERIENDOME)" and by the middle of the record we've somehow transitioned to intimate, heart wrenchingly vulnerable meditations on a painful miscarriage with "Falling From Grace." Frustration with the major label rat race as well as evergreen pop subjects of love and heartbreak fill out the rest of the album, but no matter the topic or the style of the song, everything feels honest and confident. The Spanglish version of "Mona Lisa" is one of my favorite pop songs of the year
14. Forever by Charly Bliss (Rock/Power Pop) - talking about honest, vulnerable music! Charly Bliss made their comeback this year and it's unsurprisingly one of the best albums to come out in 2024. Forever feels like a great marriage of the sounds on their other two LPs, Guppy and Young Enough. The band is still leaning into the pop sound that clearly enthralls them but there's a welcome return for fun guitar riffs too. Also there's no album on this list that has a stronger opening than the three song run of "Tragic" to "Calling You Out" to "Back There Now"
15. You Could Do It Tonight by Couch Slut (Sludge Metal/Noise) - okay enough pop music time for something gross and gnarly and almost guaranteed to give you some kind of disease. Couch Slut have always been here to upset you - and holy shit are they good at it on this album. Each and every song on this record is a provocative, stomach-churning vignette in its own right but none moreso than "The Donkey" where Megan Osztrosits recounts a horrifyingly fucked up story of a friend's drug-fueled bout of self mutilation in Chat Pile-esque spoken word over massive, dirty sludge metal riffs. It's fucking sick. "Here's what happened when my friends and I got fired from a haunted water park" - tell me you don't want to hear how the rest of this story goes, even knowing it will end in a grotesque, bloody mess.
16. World Fighter by Angel Sword (Heavy Metal) - okay enough edgelord shit now we're back to having fun. I honestly didn't think there would be a trad metal release that would top Razor Wire by Mean Mistreater, and then I stumbled into Angel Sword this summer. It's just candy, man. Extremely catchy 80s style riffs, incredible hooks, gritty yet charming vocals. This album is dripping in neon, racing down the highway at 90 miles an hour with two topless babes in the backseat telling you how cool your studded denim jacket and fresh perm look. "Vigilantes" never gets old for me
17. Hicimos Crecer un Bosque by Fin del Mundo (shoegaze) - kinda wild that this is the only shoegaze album that made it onto my list this year but it is what it is! And what it is in this case is the killer second album by Argentinian band Fin del Mundo. If you like fuzzy guitars and ethereal vocals, this is the record on this list for you. Although labeling them a shoegaze band is accurate, it fails to account for the ways post-rock, emo, and dream pop elevate the bands sound to another level. It's a record that's soothing and engaging at the same time, well produced, clear sounding without being too polished. "Vivimos lejos" brings a charming kind of ASIWYFA-style combination of gang vocals and emo instrumentals, resulting in basically four and half perfect minutes of music
18. Ephemera [EP] by Ben Quad (post-hardcore) - many bands are doing the throwback 00s emo/metalcore thing right now, but few of them are doing it as well as Ben Quad on this EP. This is basically They're Only Chasing Safety-worship but that's fine by me. Frantic, melodic, scathing and nakedly emotional, I love the intensity of this EP. I'd kill for a full record in this style tbh, but for now I'll be happy with what we've got. It's an incredibly short 11 minute runtime so I'd really recommend just listening to the whole thing but if nothing else, don't skip "Your Face as an Effigy"
19. Stygian Rose by Crypt Sermon (Epic Heavy Metal) - epic heavy metal, I'm sure, sounds like the stupidest genre name in the world. But like, listen to Stygian Rose and you'll immediately understand there's nothing else that describes it as well. Big, heavy doomy guitars, fast drumming, crazy soloing, nimble bass riffage, powerful heavy metal vocals and lyrics about like wizards and evil kings and stuff? Lie to yourself if you want, but I know the truth. This album fucks hard. "Heavy is the Crown of Bone" and "Glimmers in the Underworld" are crushing, face-melting works of fantasy bullshit. I can't get enough of this album
20. Infinite Void by With Sails Ahead (Post-hardcore) - I discovered these guys through a collaboration with Pulses. last year and I spent most of the intervening time eagerly anticipating the release of their debut LP Infinite Void. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. It's an incredibly confident and fun first record - firmly on the Swancore side of PHC but lacking a lot of what tends to annoy me in that subgenre (insufferable songs about the male ego). Sierra Binondo's powerful and diverse vocal range really takes these guys to another level in a genre where extremely talented musicians are a dime a dozen. Go listen to "Ryn" right now and tell me you're not at least a little bit in love now
21. Vault of Horrors by Aborted (Brutal Death Metal) - it's Aborted! It's a cheeseburger. But it's a really, really, really good cheeseburger after you've been craving one for ages. This record has two gimmicks - all the songs are based on horror movies and each has a feature from a guest vocalist. Admittedly, I find brutal/tech death to be kind of wearying after a while and this tends to affect listenability for me, which is precisely why this album has a place on my AOTY list - I don't get tired of it. It's brutal and punishing but catchy and fun to listen to. Daníel Konráðsso absolutely does not sound like a human being on this. I bet his calf muscles are insane, because the double bass on this record is frankly disgusting. "The Golgothan" has my favorite riff of the record, but there's no bad tracks, honestly
22. Revelations by Sarah Shook & the Disarmers (Alt Country) - haven't really figured out a way to talk about this band that doesn't feel at least a little bit like deadnaming singer/guitarist River Shook but they've yet to change their band name so! Admittedly, not a very country heavy year for me, but if everything I've dabbled in, Revelations is the easy standout. Continuing the band's legacy of clever, honest lyricism and rollicking country rock musicianship, Revelations feels like the best version of their sound yet. "Motherfucker" is a straightforward, righteously pissed off ode to gross, predatory men in the industry, "Backsliders" is a good old fashioned broken-hearted ode to a bad relationship, while "Jane Doe" is the easy standout shot through with emotion, clever lyricism and brilliant guitar work
23. Steps Ascending by Stand Still (Pop Punk/Melodic Hardcore) - I was a teen in the 00s so I'll always be weak to that very Long Island melodic hardcore in 2004 sound that this album is evoking so perfectly. I love fast drums, I love posi philosophical lyrics, I love those melodic, angular guitar riffs, I love a guy shouting and I love gang vocals. Those things in combination just always work on me. "We Know the Score" + "Mysticism" are the perfect 'holler along at the top of your lungs in the car' combo
24. The Tower by Urban Heat (Post-Punk) - one of my most anticipated albums of the year. When they started the album rollout with singles like "Sanitizer" and "Right Time of Night" I had a pretty good idea that the final product would have a good shot at being one of my favorite records of the year. And of course I was right. Most Post-Punk isn't quite capable of keeping my attention, but Urban Heat are so damn good at songcraft. The songs on this record are incredibly dynamic, ranging from the snotty disdain of the aforementioned "Sanitizer" to the surprising tenderness of the New Wave ballad "Seven Safe Places." It's an incredibly strong showing from a really exciting band. I've heard they're killer live, too. Maybe if I'm lucky this coming year I'll get a chance to find out for myself.
And that's it! 24 for 24
Except for these also >:)
Honorable Mentions (aka albums it killed me to leave off this list so I'm cheating by adding them here)
Club Shy [EP] by Shygirl
Prude by Drug Church
It's Inside You by Candy
Sunrise Over Rigor Mortis by Beaten to Death
Verses in Oath by Hulder
Beating the Drums of Ancestral Force by Tzompantli
Agony & Wounds by Obscene
Cure by ERRA
Songs of Blood and Mire by Spectral Wound
The Cycles of Trying to Cope by Like Moths to Flames

hai good friend,, tell me about mai. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of her before… look what we are doing to our beautiful queens 😔
YIPEE I love when me going insane about a character for a day makes you curious about them... especially cus atp I can kind of predict what is going to pique ur interest
ok ok: so, Mai. She's 1/3 of Azula's Evil Girl Group, colloquially known as Ozai's Angels, and thats the context you see her in for most of the show which is why it's important to know. You know how all cartoons in the 2000s HAD to have ONE morose goth chic? Well she is atla's quota. She's a noble, she's an only child (THEE only child. The first only child they made at the only child factory <33), she fights with 🔪KNIVES 🔪!!! she's Zuko's canonical comphet love interest and she has a very understated but underrated arc..
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her role/arc in the show:
I mentioned Ozai's Angels because her interactions with Azula and Ty Lee are the real meat and potatoes of her character. They're like... baby's first toxic yuri love triangle <3333 REALLY can't overstate how toxic yuri love triangle they are. Mai and Ty Lee end up betraying Azula in season 3 which is both the climax (imo) of Mai's arc and the inciting action for Azula's descent (but we're not getting into Azula never ask me to get into Azula please). A lot of people reduce Mai going turncoat to JUST being about saving Zuko - and like partially it IS. She saves Zuko from dying because she loves/cares about him and that's a big part of it.
But it's ALSO about her finding her voice ?? Like throughout the show we NEVER see her voice opinions about something unless it's to say that she's bored, or jaded, or what have you. She never seems to have strong feelings about anything; her stated reasoning for joining Azula's Imperialism Girl Band is because she's bored living with her parents 💀 but it's like. It becomes clear to the audience later in the show that she was raised to never speak unless spoken to, to mask emotions, etc etc LIEKKK SHE'S SOOO REPRESSED ONLY CHILD SHE'S SO WOMAN TM... So her telling Azula "I love Zuko more than I fear you" was THEE cuntiest moment EVER because it's like oh shit ?? this is something pretty unexpected from this character ?? Waow so crazy so cunt ??
A lot of people point out that she and Ty Lee never really got a "ohhhh Imperialism is bad" arc like Zuko did but. imo there wasn't a whole lot of room in the show for it lol. Would have been something interesting to explore in the comics for sure !! but uhmmm I'd rather walk into the ocean than watch Gene Luen Yang try and write about imperialism and colonialism again so maybe its better we never got that.. (no offense to him he's just... not that great at doing it in the atla comics...not his strength..)
Her reception in fandom:
She's usually only ever talked about in the context of being Zuko's love interest (either positively OR negatively) hence my post that you saw. Like. Victim Numero Uno of zutara/kataang shipping wars cus at least a bunch of people LIKE Aang whereas people either ignore or actively dislike her.
There's often discourse about like. Who's the "toxic" one in the Mai/Zuko pairing and it's annoying when she gets flak for it cus like newsflash: they both are. My GOD they both are. They've canonically broken up twice. They're the emo boy/goth girl pairing. They're cute together. They're miserable together. They're both homosexual. You get it.
Also a lot of times people just call her boring or emotionless and it's like congrats !! you have fallen for her facade... in conclusion... sorry this is so long uhm.. your fault for asking me though... how long is it going to take until I've just told you the entire plot of this cartoon piecemeal ask by ask...

thank you so much for the ask!!
now, what makes hail to the thief YOUR favorite Radiohead album? Also what’s your favorite track on it?
massive ramble:
oh man. to me, httt is a very diverse album. i think it is the perfect in between of kid a/amnesiac and in rainbows. it captures my favorite radiohead era (the band seemed the happiest 2003-2005 imo.) it is a very emotionally charged album, focusing on a variety of rather important topics and feelings.
songs like “sail to the moon” & “where i end and you begin” are so hauntingly solemn and beautiful. “we suck young blood” is incredibly underrated, but it is truly phenomenal. i don’t think i’ve ever heard a song like it. initially “myxomatosis” seemed unfit for the album, but the more i listened — the more it fit in. “there, there” and “the gloaming” add more to the solemn element. “there, there” in specific gives me this feeling that i cannot shake. “just cause you feel it, doesn’t mean it’s there.” like hello??? “2 + 2 = 5”, “a punch up at a wedding”, “a wolf at the door” and “go to sleep” really establish the general sound of the album. im not sure how to elaborate on this — i hope you understand what i’m saying. scatterbrain is probably my least-listened track, and i prefer the com lag version of “i will.”
i truly believe there is not a bad track on httt. i think it is so well put together, and it seems like they had fun making it. (which, i assume they did — according to interviews following its release.)
another part i love about this album is jonny’s use of the ondes martenot. obviously it had its place on kid a/amnesiac & in rainbows, but i feel that it was the most powerful on this record.
anyways, my personal favorite would have to be “where i end and you begin.” this song has stuck with me from the moment i heard it. it is so so so beautiful. it reminds me of the wind, and being cold while contemplating what you’ve done wrong. myxomatosis is a close second, a rather whimsical song.
i hope this makes a little sense! i will probably revise this at some point… let me know if there’s a mistake/you need clarification on something :-).

Real-time recording my thoughts as I listen to In These Silent Days.
Right on Time: I mentally categorized this as a high song for a while because of the note at the end. But this is like very bottom of alto range low. That recurring note in the verse melody is just, ugh. She's great.
You and Me on the Rock: Moment of silence for everyone who saw the SNL performance and thought that this was what her discography consisted of, then proceeded to have their heads completely blown off with no warning. Never gonna shut up about the insane biblical connotations and allegories and nuances of the first verse even though I'm the only one who cares. I love this song. Reading the memoir makes it so much more potent.
This Time Tomorrow: This one has really been hitting since my grandpa died. I learned it on guitar.
Broken Horses: Her voice, wtf. The catharsis of this song is so strong. You can tell all of the screaming is really genuine. Also, the insane controlled vocal distortion makes me wonder if, post-vocal coaching, she could do the The Story crack live (she's said she can't but that was a few years ago). I don't think it would work or make sense to do but I wonder if she, like, physically can.
Kroger ad: Fuck the fuck off. Go die in a hole.
Letter to the Past: This is always where I start crying. I do not make it through this song in a stable state of mind, ever. Most underrated song on the album imo. Home to some of my favorite lyrics ever: "nobody leaves here alive and nothing holy comes from being right", which I want to get tattooed, and also "if the blind can lead the blind, then baby, I'm just like you".
Mama Werewolf: Tim wrote this and I always wonder if he originally wrote it as "your mama is a werewolf" with the assumption that Brandi would sing it or if they changed the gender when they decided to record it. My guess is that is the original line, though. Evangeline is so evil for calling Brandi Mama Werewolf whenever she's being grumpy. I'm not gonna get over this song my whole life, I don't think.
When You're Wrong: This song can be heard in about fifteen thousand different ways depending on your own life experience, which I love. Feels like a much darker take on The Eye in a lot of ways.
Stay Gentle: I could go on and on. The audacity to put a full-on, unapologetic *lullaby* in the middle of a rock(aligned) album and say yeah and what about it is my favorite thing about them as a band. This song makes my heart hurt.
Sinners Saints and Fools: This song is so incredibly Madman Across the Water (the song) in every single way it's actually unbelievable. The twins' quiet harmonies in the background of the chorus are spine chilling. Seeing it live would be an Experience.
Throwing Good After Bad: The thesis of the whole album. A top personal favorite of mine. I could write multiple book length manuscripts. If you think this song is not about you in some way shape or form you are lying to yourself.

these are gonna be random songs I like that come to mind haha
impossible by nothing but thieves, one of my fave love songs, very dramatic, very pop/rock, this band in general is underrated imo
nude by radiohead, but let's be honest, any song by them scratches the itch in my brain soooo good arghhhhhhh
chacun fait (c'qui lui plaît) by chagrin d'amour, grew up with this song, such a banger, very funky, fun lyrics, a no skip
indigo night by tamino, and yes I am convinced he is not a human but in fact, a siren
custer by slipknot, literally, physically impossible for me not to headbang to that song, my mood goes ↗↗↗ when I listen to it

what’s the idea behind your username
Hello! Thanks for asking! 💜
I originally came up with it when I was very active in the blink-182 fandom. My favorite song of theirs has always been (and I'm guessing will always be) Stockholm Syndrome (very underrated imo) and the name of the guy that joined the band after Tom Delonge left it in 2015 is Matt Skiba, so I combined the two :)
I used to come up with new URLs for every new fandom I joined, but at this point this one has been with me for what, 9 years? I kinda grew attached to it lmao

Nobody asked but over the last couple of days I decided to listen through every mainline Skinny Puppy album (all formal LPs + Remission which is for some reason considered an EP, never fully understood that) from beginning to end in order of release. I've listened to all these albums 5 billion times and know them more or less by heart but it occurred to me after the last show that I don't know if I've ever done this.
After each album I wrote a little Twitter-sized review of it and highlighted a few standout songs. This is, of course, because I originally did this on Twitter. It was a really fun little post-concert activity so I figured I would share it here too.
Maybe even a good introduction if I still have any followers putting off checking them out...? 👀
Remission (1984). The one that started it all. Kind of. Simpler than the rest maybe but still so iconic. “Far Too Frail” continues to be my favorite, hearing it live for one of the encores blew my mind. “Film” as the encore opener also brought tears to my eyes.

Bites (1985). Still simpler than later outputs but also still a classic. Has a ton of really underrated instrumental-heavy/atmospheric tracks, and “The Choke” and “Last Call” are perfect songs. “Assimilate” is legendary but unfortunately gets hardcore overplayed lol.
Tumblr media
Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse (1986). The addition of DRG is palpable. SP starts coming into their own and sounding less like a Cabaret Voltaire tribute band. Lol. Moodier, more complex, and lush with dark soundscapes. “God’s Gift (Maggot)” is one of the best.
Tumblr media
Cleanse Fold and Manipulate (1987). From the first beat of “First Aid” onwards, this is one of THEE quintessential Skinny Puppy albums. IMO the real start of their “golden era.” Contains some of my favorite songs of ALL time. “Addiction” is easily a no contest top 5 SP track.
Tumblr media
VIVI SECT VI (1988). One of the greatest. Noxious war zones, sterile hospitals, choking, burning, cold clanging cages in animal laboratories. One of the darkest, most nightmarishly psychedelic, heaviest, absolutely masterfully crafted albums. “VX Gas Attack” remains unparalleled.
Tumblr media
Rabies (1989). Hi Al. This album just oozes sex appeal. I never get tired of it. It has a deranged masculine militaristic machine gun energy unlike anything else. I’ll never tire of “Hexonxonx,” “Worlock,” or “Tin Omen.” And ending on the dreamy delirious “Spahn Dirge”… Goddamn.
Tumblr media
Too Dark Park (1990). A lot of people call this one THE supreme SP album. It’s legendary. Pure unadulterated Skinny Puppy. Sounds like home. An endless barrage of chaos and stormy monstrous polluted amorphous landscapes. “Grave Wisdom” is an all time favorite ever.
Tumblr media
Last Rights (1992). The most utterly mindblowing devastating masterpiece of an album maybe ever made. The cohesiveness of the themes, sounds, lyrics, imagery—pure art. It’s a terrifying and desolate hellscape. Flung into sonic Knowhere. “Mirror Saw” is pure perfect transcendence.
Tumblr media
The Process (1996). I have some trouble with this album—It can just make me very sad. You can both feel and hear the devastating loss. Barren and hopeless. Still, it’s TEEMING with absolutely rocking, heavy, guttural bangers. “Cult,” “Blue Serge,” and “Curcible” stand out.
Tumblr media
The Greater Wrong of the Right (2004). A personal fave. Forever enthralled by the dreary smoking futuristic cityscapes painted by the various textures across each track. An epic journey through destruction of civilization and the mind. “Goneja” is an easy top 5 SP song for me.
Tumblr media
Mythmaker (2007). Used to struggle with it, was even my least favorite, but it’s grown on me and I love it. A high octane reality-bending journey through alien dimensions and human mythos. If Ogre’s alien Other belonged to an album it’d be this one. I adore “Dal” and “Pedafly.”
Tumblr media
HanDover (2011). Grossly underrated and constantly written off, I ADORE this album. It captures a sort of dreamlike melancholic sharp surrealism unmatched by anything else, like rain falling softly atop a rusting metallic dystopia. “Gambatte” is a stand-out forever favorite.
Tumblr media
Weapon (2013). A fitting end. Nostalgic familiarity rejuvenated with sharp crispness. This one taps deep into my imagination; post-apocalyptic fantastical mechanical wastelands haunted by ghosts of the past. “Plasicage” is an all-time fave, and I love the reimagined “Solvent.”

Some of my favorite Lostwave Songs - Solved and Unsolved
For those looking for cool obscure music, lostwave is your friend! Don't mind me geeking out about unidentified or previously unidentified music aaa!
Solved -
Making Dedication by First Person - Probably my favorite lostwave song period. Beautiful lyrics. I found it took me a few listens before I really started appreciating it.
Cyan Daze by Chimera - THIS SONG IS ABSOLUTELY SLAMMIN' IT'S SO GOOOOOOD.
L.A. Woman by P.J. Marcus - If I had a nickel for every time I really loved a song called "L.A. Woman", I'd have two nickles. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
The Livin' and the Dyin' by Jim Dawson - Really beautiful song and an early lostwave solve!
On the Roof by Johan Lindell - The original "most mysterious song on the internet". Absolutely slammin'.
Traveling Minstrel by Richard Torrance - No fish.
Bird On a Wing by Rare Bird - Absolutely bangin' song, lovin' this dude's voice.
Common Hound by The Blind Venetians - Another early lostwave solve and absolutely awesome song.
Early in the Morning (Demo Version) by Excalibur - Much better than the final version imo. This song makes me feel like a 80s wizard shooting lightning out of his hands, which is extremely high praise if you ask me.
Little Islands by The Gallery - Great song with an emotional story behind its search. I'm so happy it's finally solved.
Ready n' Steady by D.A. - Not a unidentified song but a lost song! Well, now it's found but you get the idea. Deserved a release imo.
George Sand by Antonia and the Operators - Bangin' song. I wish there was more by this band they're so good honestly???
Organ by Jon Lord - This was solved in like 10 seconds but still worth putting on here. I love a good neo-classical piece.
Unsolved -
"The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet" - You know I had to put this here.
"Fond My Mind" - Another classic lostwave song. They gotta solve this and TMMS eventually right? RIGHT???
"Wait Forever" - Very ethereal sounding. I really love this one. It's possibly by a German band called the In Tensions or the Intentions but there's no record of them anywhere online?
"Deluded" - Probably one of my favorites. This song SLAPS. The vocalist's performance is delightfully unhinged.
"Baby It's Not Too Late" - Song from an... *ahem* adult film, that's absolutely slammin'. A lot of vintage porn has great music for some reason??? Unfortunately this is likely unsolvable.
"I'm Almost In Love" - Another vintage porn song. This song has an absolutely awesome saxophone and keyboard part??? Also I have no idea why Barni used a picture of some pandas but I'm not complaining. Unfortunately this may be unsolvable.
"Losing My Patience" - Possibly from a porn film??? It's got that energy. I love the guitar solo here.
"Fly Away" - Another famous lostwave, this time from Japan! Despite the slightly unnerving tone, the lyrics are quite mundane???
"Light the Lanterns" - Sometimes called "The Third Most Mysterious Song on the Internet". I love the surreal lyrics.
"Writing from the Train" - Underrated lostwave song. Switches between two different languages for some reason???
"One More Chance" - I really like this one because I feel it has vintage anime vibes for some reason???
"Cat Swimming Guitar Solo" - Awesome guitar solo and Barni put a picture of a cat swimming for some reason, so exactly what it says on the tin!
There's so many more lostwave songs I wanna gush about so I might do a part 2???

So you want to listen to Alice Nine? (prt. 3)
Moving on with my suggestions for potential new Number Sixes (I took my sweet time, I know, but time and mood are two big issues of mine), cause summarizing their work in one post was impossible, let’s dive into the final era (again based on how I personally separated them).
The years after PSC (2014-hiatus, From “Ginga no Woto” to “Grace”)
Self-explanatory, the following songs are from stuff they released after leaving PSC, a time during which they experimented the most and walked away from their signature sound, which worked for some and for others didn't. If you're a new fan, choosing to start from this era might be easier for you than a returning fan who's set some expectations, but I want to show everyone, regardless, that they kept releasing amazing songs, which fell under most fans' radar, turning them into a severely underrated band.
Reminder: the songs I use in these posts aren't those I necessarily consider their best works, I focus more on what's easier to listen to for a new listener.
Let's go:
youtube
Phoenix was one of the first songs they released as an independent band, hence why it's a song closest to the style they were known for, until then, and a very easy first listen, imo. Personally I took my time getting used to it, but now I wonder how it didn't work for me right away, cause it is rather addicting.
youtube
Oh you like guitars? This might be a good starter for you. I love this song and the guitars give me chills every time. It was different for them, had speaking parts, a certain type of thrill to it, and I wish I could have experienced it live. If you have a good sound system, turn up the volume. These guitar sequences are meant to be listened to, loudly.
youtube
Now this was very different, but it's chill, it's fun, it's sth to go for a walk to, dance in your room on a weekend morning, even do your chores to. xD It's an easy and beautiful first listen I think.
youtube
Hands down one of their cuter and more fun songs and concept mvs, but maybe I'm biased cause it felt like a song devoted to the several eras of rock and their own fanbase. I don't know. It's laid back, it's playful and definitely sth I'd enjoy if my journey as their fan had started in this era.
youtube
A must-listen imo. Youtube's sound compression is killing me but...it's still good as is. If you get your hands on the album, it will sound even better, trust.
youtube
*Aggressive nodding* Yes yes, press that play button! Especially if you love bass lines, this is your song. My sister calls this song a hymn and she doesn't listen to much from vkei bands, so... xD. It's one of my favorite songs, too, and the kind I think could probably capture you as a first listener as well.
youtube
While this isn't sth you will see more than 3 times in their discography, cause they generally didn't use folk sounds in their songs, it's a banger and worth a listen early on, on your journey.
youtube
Sit back, chill and let's go on a trip, cause this is exactly the vibe this song gives xD. Nostalgia, car rides, 70s or 80s too, maybe.
youtube
This sounds so 80s or 90s fun in Tokyo for me, I don't know xD. It's giving fun with friends. Maybe's just me. But another goodie to start with.
youtube
This song was from a series of single releases they made in 2021, for which each member was to compose one song. I don't remember whose this one was, but it was my favorite so I thought of sharing.
And we've reached the end of my recommendations for Alice Nine newbies.
I didn't hit the video limit for this post, yes, cause this era, I will admit, is the hardest to get into. Again, I don't think this was a bad era, I found plenty of songs I liked from it too, but because they experimented with so many different sounds, if you're the type who listens to only few genres, you might be bothered by it. Personally I listen to pretty much every genre, so as long as sth sounds good to me, I'm going to listen to it. ^^'>
I hope you find sth you like, if not, it’s ok, you might enjoy sth from other eras. But well, if you still don’t find sth, we all like different things, it’s alright, but yeah, this was an attempt to entice more people listen to one of my favorite bands, Alice Nine (their final era before hiatus, according to my understanding, at least).

I really liked your answer about missing horror in Käärijä/JO fics, I wanna hear more! <3 do you have some ideas what would make it good?
also 🍌
I'll answer the fruit ask first and then share some ideas!! :D
what's the funniest joke/reference you've made in your fics?
I generally don't rlly pay attention to humor in my fics tbh, if an idea for a funny moment or dialogue comes to me in the moment I'll write it but otherwise jokes are usually accidental. But something that does come to mind is the subtle running joke in the deaf! Jere AU that Kris is still the only single in the group lmao Also in stalker! Tommy, writing Tommy as being shocked and dejected whenever Jere reacts badly to him doing something evil like killing people is extremely funny to me like what did bro expect 😭☠️
Anyways here's some horror concepts for JO/Kä crew 👀
Stalking in general I feel is a great concept for psychological horror. Whether it be one of the JO/Ka members themselves or stories where the fans are the obsessive ones. I was going to do a stalker! Jan one but I also think a fic where the band/Ka crew have to deal with parasocial fans could be very interesting. I wouldn't think of it as villainizing fans but more so calling out the sometimes scary behavior some people have towards their idols. The more realistically written, the better imo
I'm also very obsessed with doppelganger horror. I wrote a short doppelganger Käärijä story back in the summer but I think this concept would also be super interesting with Häärijä as the evil clone/copy. He's such a comedic relief and unserious character so it'd be very cool to see him in a scarier role like trying to steal Jere's identity etc
Another concept is body horror with Jere but I do feel more hesitant about that one because I was thinking of it in a medical context. How horrific it is to feel your body slowly decaying and that you become weaker and weaker. This one would have to be written very tastefully and considerate though because it's a real trauma Jere went through and I wouldn't just want it to be something written for shock value or gore. But I do think horror is an underrated way to portray those topics
Hope these were interesting anon! ^_^ If anyone wants to experiment with any of these concepts absolutely feel free to btw!!

Hello, please may you recommend five of your favourite albums to me, as I am still recovering from my dark era of "just outsource it, get someone else to pick the music" of the last thirty yrs and I wish to learn :)
I haven't been as active about seeking out music these days, but I really want to start doing it again! I used to be *very* good at it, so if you'd like tips, happy to share!!!
In terms of my five favorite albums... These are a little arbitrary because I have too many, but I decided to focus on albums that I consider to be really strong from beginning to end. So, in no particular order:
Draw Down the Moon by Foxing: Foxing is Midwest emo-adjacent, so this one speaks to my nostalgia a bit. It's a gorgeous album in the post-rock vein, so it's got a lot of really lovely texture. Also features the culmination of nearly 10 year long recurring albatross imagery which absolutely demolished me the first time I heard it.
The Million Masks of God by Manchester Orchestra: Manchester Orchestra has been around for like 20 years now, and it's been really fun to watch their music change over time. As a post rock lover, this is my favorite album by them (the album is not really post rock, but listen, it's post rock adjacent.)
Historian by Lucy Dacus: A beautiful album with some real gut punches of songs. Lucy Dacus is frequently associated with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker (they all make up the band boygenius), but tbh I don't find her style all that similar to theirs -- She has a much more energetic approach to melody as well as instrumentation in general, and lyrically, she's a lot more hopeful.
Crushing by Julia Jacklin: Severely underrated imo! Singer/songwriter with some indie pop and folk influences. If you like Historian, you'll probably like this album, too.
The Winter of Mixed Drinks by Frightened Rabbit: A weirdly hopeful album about overcoming depression that rewired my brain in college. I find this one kind of hard to listen to these days (the leader singer killed himself back in 2018, god it's been 6 years--), but it's gotten easier. It's a good fucking album!
Bonus: Because Some Things Cannot Happen Enough by Tomasz Bednarczyk. I intentionally left instrumental albums out of the above list because they take up a very different space in my brain but like... holy shit it's such a good instrumental album. The textures.... Pop on a good pair of headphones for this one if you can.

hello !! i'm a long time lurker here at tumblr, but it's been a while since i posted/made any new sideblogs. you can call me anna ! i'm a girl obv, and also a minor [16-18] so pls don't be creepy !!
i recently got into diabolik lovers and watched the first season of the anime as well as gameplay of haunted dark bridal. if it's not obvious, my favourite character is kanato !! i haven't been very involved with the fandom yet but i see a lot of hate for him which is sad :(
more about this blog -- my main fandom is diabolik lovers !! i'm no artist and barely a writer, but i can make memes, headcanons, quotes and things like that !! as well as rambles and stuff about the series. i'm not interested in any characters other than yui and the sakamaki brothers, so if you expect content for anyone else from me i'm sorry to let you down.
i'll add some more stuff abt me below :}
fandoms ::
-- diabolik lovers [obv]
-- danganronpa
-- hetalia
-- doki doki literature club
-- yandere simulator
-- future diary
-- omori
-- higurashi when they cry
-- mystic messenger
-- shiki [second best vampire anime after DL imo]

-- learning abt history//geography

-- melanie martinez
-- mitski
-- kikuo
-- lana del rey
-- abba
my fav authors ::
-- agatha christie
-- donna tartt
-- fyodor dostoevsky
my ranking of DL boys ::
-- kanato is obv number one, i rly love his more feminine design and i believe we need more characters that look like him in media. maybe bc my type is more feminine boys but idk. i love his personality asw he's batshit insane and needs immediate professional help. underrated
-- subaru is a surprising one for me, as i often forgot he existed while watching the anime but his route in hdb was rly cute and he's such a tsun tsun which is adorable
-- a few yrs ago reiji was EXACTLY my type and i still appreciate his character archetype quite a lot. he's also one of the meanest of the brothers i love that abt him (i would cry on the spot if he scolded me)
-- shu is pretty cute and i rly like his personality as well. he also has his weird moments like everyone else but i think he had the closest thing to a healthy relationship w yui so that's cool. he's also super relatable
-- laito was actually my second favourite before hdb, but holy fucking shit is his route messed up. the anime did NOT do a good job portraying how deranged this man is. i still like him but his constant horniness and raging misogyny [more so than the others] are huge turnoffs
-- ayato was always pretty low on the list, and after seeing his route my opinion didn't change much. i don't dislike anything in particular abt him, he's just not the type of character i usually like. i don't rly like him with yui either for that reason, so yeah
