Something I really love about revenge tales like Nine Sols and Tales of Berseria is that the protagonist goes through a deep life-changing experience that shifts their perspective in a hundred ways, but at the end of the day

revenge is what was on the menu, and it's what got served

Yi and Velvet are pretty alike - betrayed by their mentors, set up for a fall (literal in Yi's case), and single-minded in their desire for revenge EXCEPT they can't help taking people under their wing. They can't help caring for the people around them and protecting them no matter how far it gets them from the goal. When they finally do get revenge, it's with a fuller understanding of why they gotta do it, but both of them (IIRC in Velvet's case, Berseria was a long time ago) more or less turn to the camera and say yeah, this bitch still got it coming
