The mild onion-flavoured leaves and flowers of Allium schoenoprasum (chives) are used raw and finely chopped in salads, soups, fish dishes, with eggs and potatoes. The plants are clump forming with tiny bulbs and are a decorative edging to a border.

Cucumbers and peppers starting to pop off!!! Got some green onions planted as well. Parsley and other herbs are also doing really well!

I also managed to get a dragon fruit seeds to sprout!! Hopefully a couple others do too

While I was out running Hubby had been busy potting up the herb plants we got from the nursery yesterday. I went for a walk around the vege garden to take a look at how everything was growing. I had taken my shoes and socks off and Hubby noticed my feet were covered in sand from my run and very kindly turned the garden hose on my sandy feet. I may have squealed just a little.

A stupid fact about me is that every time I eat a fruit or vegetable and a seed falls out I feel bad for it and want to plant it and let it grow and this would maybe be a viable urge if I lived on like, a farm, but I am in a tiny apartment and I already have 81 houseplants

Here’s the kitchen garden update. I had a bunch of worms eat my kale. I had to buy netting and spray BT. Now the kale is beautiful and healthy. The tomatoes are reaching for the sky. I pick peppers and tomatoes almost daily. I am also growing ground cherry which is odd. It tastes a bit like sweet Parmesan cheese to me. Zucchini, forget it. I have four plants and I can’t eat them all fast enough. Today I roasted some. Super happy with the expansion. I got scarlet runner beans coming as well.

As part of a community project fruit and vegetables are being grown in the forgotten spaces of Stromness, Orkney. These included Allium schoenoprasum (chives) a bulbous perennial that forms clumps of narrow cylindrical, onion-scented leaves, with rounded light purple flowers.
