Your next study session is a special excursion. Paranoid about your talkative professor and his distractions, you opt instead for the off-campus smoothie shop you passed a dozen times but never went into. You order a simple strawberry banana concoction and claim a table in the corner for your mission.

You take your laptop out and the giant tome with a cluster of tabs poking out from the pages. You've narrowed down your possible topics. You don't know why you're so indecisive. You just feel entirely out of your depth. Ask you about a Hapsburg or even a Roman emperor, and you're good, but gods and goddesses, giants and beasts... You just can't nail it down.

The coming and going of customers is steady but not disturbing. Most enter, order, and promptly leave. The average patron has a gym bag and appears to be on their way to workout.

You peek up now and again but quickly lose yourself in your research. There's something to say about the plight of the feminine figures in Norse mythos. It surely seems a tragic existence. Somehow, you can relate.

You flip to a tab and lean in to read. You reach for your smoothie blindly and take a sip as your eyes flit back to your laptop. A cup lands heavy on your table and a figure falls in the chair across from you. As if they know you, as if they belong there.

It's that man! With the blindingly white eyes and similarly shocking hair. Hair pokes out above the vee of his peculiar tunic and his hair is wave with a sheen of sweat. You give him a confused look and flutter through the pages, ignoring him. You won't ask how he found you, might be a coincidence, but you'd rather he get the clue and leave you alone.

He reaches over and stops your search. He pushes the pages flat and growls, "you wrote in it?"

You squint at him, curling your lip. You shrug. You bought the book. Who cares if you added a few annotations in the margins.

"How could you write in it?" He sneers.

"I'm sorry, do I know you?"

"Don't be stupid," he tilts his head, "I know you remember me."

"Mmmm," you drone dully and slide the book from under his hand.

Silence. Still and suffocating. You have nothing to say to him and it seems he approached without a clear plan. You really don't understand what his end goal would be. He can go find the book somewhere else.

"Do you even know what you're doing?" He hisses.

"Excuse me?" You glare at him above your laptop.

"Sure seems like you don't."

"It's a history project. I can figure it out."

"Hmph," he wrinkles his nose, "well, I am a font of knowledge on the subject."

"Really? What are your credentials?"

"I don't need a piece of paper to tell me what I know," he scoffs.

"So you know nothing?"

"Watch it, girl."

"Or what?" You blink, shocked by the interlaced threat.

He laughs darkly and crosses his arms, "you think you're smart."

You shake your head, "I'm studying, so... that's the goal."

He shifts and leans forward, resting his elbows on the table. He watches you as you ignore him for the blinking cursor on the screen.

"When a man talks to you, are you usually so rude?" He asks.

You nearly recoil. You give a scoff of your own. What year is this?

"I don't know you," your eyes dart up to meet his, "and I don't want to know you. Why would you even--"

"I'm not ugly," he says, a jarring statement. You wouldn't argue, he isn't hideous; on the outside. "And I offered to help. So..."

"Yeah, but you're not nice either."

You shut the book and snap closed your laptop. If he won't go, you will. You stand and he does too. He's big. You might be tall but he's a brick wall.

"Where are you going?" He asks, almost stupidly. That stern, empty cadence of him is almost robotic.

"Away from you."

"Why?"

You furrow your brows. Really? Is it not obvious?

"I'm talking to you. Asking you questions about yourself. It's small talk."

You let out a long 'um', not able to come up with anything else.

"Geralt," he offers his hand in an overly formal manner.

You can't respond. You don't understand what the hell is going on? You might be a social hermit but this man is entirely inept.

"I don't meet many people interested in mythology, but--"

"I'm not interested, dude."

He sputters, "why?"

"Because... you're a jerk," you shove your things in your bag and zip it up. "Wow, are you really that oblivious?"

You see his eyes scanning as he thinks. It's almost like he's never reflected on his own behaviour. You can't imagine why he is still looking for a friend.

"So... you're not going to tell me your name?" He asks at last.

"Bro, I'm about to scream," you warn as you shoulder your bag, "just get out of my way."

You swipe your smoothie off the table and take a step forward. He doesn't move at first. He stares you down as you steel yourself, glancing at the employees behind the counter.

"What school do you go to?" He asks.

Your head nearly explodes. You have never been so lost in a conversation. You grip the strap of your bag tight and set your jaw.

"Move," you grit out, heart racing.

He pulls his chin back as if surprised. He steps away and waves you out from behind the table. You slowly walk forward, swallowing as you try not to shake.

"I'll figure it out," he mutters.

"What?" You spin back to him.

"I said," he turns to face you, sitting again and taking his cup to sip on the straw. He pops his mouth off, "have a good day."

The Hexsquad + Vee in different D20 seasons:

This was an idea I came up with in my brain. If I could draw it, I would, but I can't, so... settle for this massive fucking block of text. Have fun.

Fantasy High

Luz: A human wizard (Evocation) whose life goal is to be the greatest adventurer the world has ever seen, and that all starts with Aguefort Adventuring Academy. She was always considered the "weird kid" in middle school, but she's confident that she'll find her people at Aguefort, and she's ready to take the school by storm... or, at least, find some friends who she can connect with. Luz is definitely the type of person to get her magic-studying done ahead of time, so she's a little bit ahead a lot of her classmates---mostly due to the fact that she keeps on trying the more complicated spells instead of starting with the basics.

Vee: Luz's adopted sister and a changeling sorcerer (Aberrant Mind). She's less keen on the whole "adventuring" thing, preferring a more mundane life, but she and Luz are thick as thieves, and she knows that her sister is definitely still going to get bullied at Aguefort---better to be there so she can have her back. Vee doesn't really remember a lot of her life from before she got adopted by the Nocedas, though she does know that something happened in those lost years that gave her the powers of the Far Realm... powers that she still can't quite control.

Willow: A dwarven druid (Circle of Spores) and barbarian (Battlerager). She's a case study in what happens when the shy, awkward girl from middle school discovers roller derby over the summer and transforms into a confident, punk-rock powerhouse... who still has some of those old insecurities lingering underneath the surface. Not to mention, pretty explosive anger issues. Willow is more than ready to form a kickass adventuring party on top of starting a roller derby team at Aguefort, but so far, she's only got one member...

Gus: A halfling rogue (Arcane Trickster) who skipped two grades due to being a quote-unquote "prodigy," which is a nice way of saying that he's struggling with severe gifted kid syndrome. He and Willow have been best friends for years, to the point where ending up at Aguefort is kind of the best thing that happened to him, even though he's still pretty insecure about his rogue abilities. Since he's younger than almost everyone else, Gus doesn't have a lot of friends to start outside of Willow... so, of course, the best course of action is to join literally every extracurricular. Despite already having a packed schedule. Yeah, he's overworking himself.

Amity: A high elf artificer (Battlesmith) who's built up a reputation as a top student at Hudol---a reputation that, according to her mother, she's completely throwing away by not only choosing to be an artificer instead of a wizard, but purposefully failing the Hudol entrance exam so she could go to Aguefort Adventuring Academy instead. Amity's really just learning how to be rebellious, so she's taking small steps---different academic path, exploring her own passions, dyeing her hair a different color---before she can hopefully build up enough disrespect for authority that she can move out, or at least help her dad work up the courage to ask for divorce papers. She's trying.

Hunter: A tiefling bard (College of Valor) who, like Fig, has only recently discovered that he's a tiefling. Rather than going straight to the rebellious route, though, he's kind of at a loss as to what to do, to the point where he even drops being a paladin in favor of being a bard---though, of course, still within the standard-hero vein. He's been raised by his uncle his whole life, and while their relationship has been pretty positive up until now, it's become fairly strained due to Belos never telling Hunter that his mom was a devil ("I don't give a fuck about safety, Uncle B, the fact that I am literally a spawn of hell is something that I should know"). But he's got an outlet. He's learning guitar and some bard spells.

A Starstruck Odyssey

Captain Luz Noceda: The Amercadian girl who always dreamed of becoming a spacer, she's now the captain of her very own ship, The Selkie, at the age of twenty-six... and she's struggling. Sure, she's joined every union she can, got all the insurance, and has really been trying to keep the ship on the up-and-up, but every time she takes a risk and goes for a more dangerous job, things fail drastically. Luz loves her crew and her ship, and she really doesn't want to give any of it up, but she can't ignore the little voice in her head that's telling her that she might not be as cut out for the spacing life as she originally believed. As luck would have it, though, her new hire has some excellent skills up her sleeve...

Amity Blight-Deamonne: The youngest daughter of renowned inventor Alador Blight and high-society fashion designer Darius Deamonne, Amity's got money, mechanical skills, and a sense of style that's the envy of every femme in the galaxy. She was apprenticing under both of her fathers at the same time, but after hearing that her older siblings had apparently made quite a life for themselves as spacers, she decided that there was no way she was going to miss out on the fun and joined Luz's crew as a mechanic and a "crew diplomat." Of course, Amity isn't the most prepared for the combat that they wind up in more often than not, but she is prepared to do some handy repairs and a lot of smooth talking when necessary. Which is almost all the time. (Also, she lost a leg and an arm in a childhood accident, but her family could afford to have her get fitted for cybernetic replacements without going into massive debt. This has caused her to be a major advocate for cyborg rights.)

Deep-Sea Volcano Eroded By Time, human name "Vee": An Aguatunisian who set off on her Galivant several years ago, she's been exposed to how dishonest, selfish, and uncaring the world outside her home planet can be, which has led her to becoming quite the nervous wreck. True cynicism is something that's pretty much impossible for Vee to really achieve, due to being a psychic being who can tell when people are lying and being fortunate enough to land among folks who are pretty open with each other, but she's still wary of new people until she gets a chance to communicate. Because of this, being the comms officer was the perfect choice, and Vee's pretty comfortable on The Selkie. Still doesn't stop her from going into a panic attack every time the crew gets into combat, though.

Gus Porter (soon-to-be Dr. Porter): Youngest of the crew, Gus is a medical grad student who's interning on the ship for his thesis project---which basically translates to him being the ship's doctor. On paper, he doesn't mind doing the medical stuff, since his entire thesis is on how spacers can maintain a healthy lifestyle while in a fairly dangerous occupation, but more than half the time, he's stuck doing emergency surgery and trying his damnedest not to remind everyone that he's studying to be a doctor, not a surgeon. Despite everything, Gus is absolutely enamored with the spacing life, and he's probably gonna stay on The Selkie well after he finishes his degree.

Wondrous Willow: The beta version of a battle droid that eventually got remade and rebranded as an assistant, Willow has long since given up attempting to fulfill that function and has fully embraced herself as part of the crew of The Selkie. She's a gunner, a heavy-hitter, an extremely loyal friend, and is surprisingly good at cooking---all of which makes her a crew favorite. Of course, despite technically fulfilling what she was designed for, she's still trying to find herself beyond just claiming agency, and it's slow-going for our girl. But she's not called "Wondrous Willow" for nothing, and if there's anything she knows, it's how to tough it out in this galaxy.

Hunter "Lucky Number" Seven: A supersoldier clone turned rugged mercenary, Hunter was designed to save people with smarts as well as brawn, as part of the renowned Hunters For Hire. He and his fellow clones were incredibly adept heroes who helped out anyone in AnarchEra that were in need... until a mysterious individual slaughtered almost all of them, with Hunter Seven being the only one to escape. Currently, he believes that the culprit is his now-slain creator's brother, the elusive and infamous mad scientist known as Dr. Philip B. Wittebane, but that may be a red herring, and the real killer could still be out there. For now, Hunter's found a new squad in the crew of the Selkie, a sister figure in Luz, and a girlfriend in his fellow gunner---and until he gets his revenge on, he's happy for now.

A Court of Fey and Flowers

Luz & Vee: The "twin" daughters of Trickster Court nobility, the two are a rare example of a human and a changeling who decide to remain in the Feywild rather than the Material Plane. While Vee fits in seamlessly in a court of shifters, pranksters, and folks who enjoy nothing more than mischief, Luz stands out in fey society due to her magic not coming naturally and the simple fact that she is a human---despite her parents having blessed her with an unusually long life. As such, she's in the rare position of being more nervous than her sister from the prospect of attending the Bloom, but while Vee has no other intentions than to just have a good time with members of other courts, Luz dreams of potentially finding a match at what some call the most romantic occasion the Feywild has to offer. Though it's uncommon for a fey to fall for a human, maybe Lady Luck is on her side...

Amity: She and her family are all that remains of the Court of Craft, and her father Darius disappeared some time ago. Having only recently come to the conclusion that his husband is dead, her other father, Alador, has agreed to form a marriage alliance with the lady Odalia of the Court of Wonder, something that Amity knows will destroy their court---and she believes wholeheartedly that Darius is still alive. She's at the Bloom for the sole purpose of finding out how to save her court and her father, and romance is the furthest thing from her mind... until she meets a kindhearted individual from the Trickster Court, who seems to not care about the pressures and expectations of fey society. And more than that, she wants to aid her in her cause.

Willow: The niece of Queen Titania and a duchess of the Seelie Court, Willow has attended many a Bloom, and she's used to the whole song-and-dance routine by now. However, her aunt has advised her that this year, the Bloom will be quite a different affair, and it would be in the Seelie Court's best interest for Willow to try and find a political match by the end of the celebration. Of course, Willow's a very free-spirited individual and is adamant about marrying only for love, so she's really just looking for a way to prove to her aunt that she's quite capable of being a high-society woman on her own... until she meets a certain individual.

Hunter: Heir to the Unseelie Court, Prince Hunter is attempting to put his past of just being the nerdy teen who talks about his interest to anyone who'll listen behind him, and in doing so, goes full Mr. Darcy---closed-off, socially awkward, and barely capable of making actual conversation. He fully intended to just spend the Bloom waiting for it to end so he doesn't have to keep on being "a shining example of the values of the Unseelie Court," but on his very first day, he meets the wisecracking and whip-smart Willow, and develops a big ol' crush on her almost instantly... though it takes him a while to figure out how to word it, because, y'know, zero social skills.

Gus: Pretty much the only person who's here for the social drama rather than the romance, Gus is an up-and-coming diplomat of the Goblin Court who's writing a book on the intricately woven fey society---he's intending it to be an anthropological study, but it's slowly starting to become a tell-all expose. Because of this, Gus always has his ear to the ground when it comes to secrets, and it's very rare for anyone to be able to tell him a successful lie... so, needless to say, when he catches wind of Amity's plan, he is one hundred percent on board. (Also, he and Vee become friends almost immediately. Chaos recognizes chaos.)

Alright, this is based on off-brand movie, I watched a lot as a kid, and now it resurfaced in my brain and it went "Fuck it, make an AU of it!" So... this is what I got. This is super cringe and probably big OOC, but I GOT A KICK OUT OF THIS MOVIE AS A 6-7 YEAR OLD.

Also, it's a lot like Mama Bear Sera in some sense too.

Okay... so : Adam and Eve, Lucifer and Lilith are two divorced couples. Both marriages didn't end out of spite, but rather both times they just fell out of love and decided to just stay friends, before it all got bad. Both couples share custody of their children.

Currently, their lives are : Lucifer is a businessman, despite the fact he loves his daughter... he longs for new adventure. Adam and Lilith (again are siblings, because I love it) are in a group together, even though they're a cool uncle/aunt to each others' kids, they're a bit overprotective of their own. Eve is a scientist, studying ancient nations, their cultures, religions and so on... on top of having a hobby of inventing, the passion she also shares with her youngest son, Seth.

One day, the four of them have a little get-together, to catch up, while their children (teens/young adults at this point) also have some time to themselves. After some time of remembering old times, Eve decides to take her friends to basement, where she works on her (relatively) new invention. She says that she found an ancient works, that say there's a way to transport somebody to different world, but due of how underdeveloped technology was at the time, they couldn't succeed in creation of that machine... but now, that Eve found it, she wants to see, if it will work. And it's been her passion project for quite awhile. From looks of it, it does seem complete, but it still doesn't work.

At one point, Eve goes to tend to something outside, so the three stay in basement with the machine... before Adam decides to rile up the others, that leads something... to happen and machine activates, sending the trio, who end up trapped inside, to another world. When Eve and kids come back... they find a weird cocoon-like structure instead, that only resembles the machine, but it's a bit smaller. But what's more unnerving... is that there's something inside of it and it's moving.

While on other side, Adam, Lilith and Lucifer find themselves in another world, that seems to be similar mix of Heaven and Hell, but not quite. They also ended up in house of Sera, near royalty angel, that takes role of protecting everyone from the Vees, three demons, who keep terrorizing people of this world. But on top of that all... they also end up in situation where everyone thinks that they're Sera's children.

So now, the trio must find a way to get back to their world, all while trying to avoid the embarrassment of being treated like toddlers by Sera, keeping away from eye of their "sister" Emily... and keeping away from the Vees, who try to kidnap them to use them against Sera.

THE TIME IS UPON US ONCE AGAIN FOR A MUFFINTOP FIC REC!!!

This fic has been a big favorite of mine ever since it started coming out a few months ago, it scratches an itch I've felt for a long long time in this fandom (and does it maybe a little too well, I get antsy and end up doing a lot of re-reading between updates).

It's got long, juicy chapters; unsettlingly and appropriately dry tone and delivery (I'm pretty sure there's only like 20 exclamation points in the whole fic (as it currently exists), and they're all in the dialogue, not the plain prose); a wonderful amount of time spent with characters who were thrown completely under the bus by canon (while still remaining (feasibly) canon-compliant, btw); some of the most fun original scenarios and characters a fic of its kind could possibly have (just wait 'till you meet the swizzler); and it's centered around everyone's favorite basilisk, Vee!

This is a sister story (pun intended) to The Owl House that follows Vee's adventures in the human realm.

Like, that's it. Simple, straightforward, and succinct, but gosh golly fuck, it sure doesn't sell it, or at least not to anyone but the most wildly obsessed (like me).

As such, I propose my own reader's summary:

Vee has had a hard life. She grew up in a cage. Coerced, studied, tortured, broken, and put back together again for as long as she can remember. As if her life in the cells weren't traumatic enough, her escape was just as much so, and nowhere near as certain. Alone on the run, she seized the first opportunity she found for a permanent solution, but that too proved to have flaws. Vee is not Luz, but she will do anything to secure her freedom, even if she has to be someone else to do it. She'll just have to survive summer camp, conspiracy theorists, and an ongoing barrage of crises, both external and internal. Anything and everything to be safe and free. This is a sister story (pun intended) to The Owl House that follow's Vee's adventures in the human realm.

Marin is the energetic, adventurous, and peppy rascal of the group. Ready to summon her staff with just a moment's notice . Not exactly the best at listening to her mentor’s words of thinking before she acts. Her hobbies include singing, playing guitar, and baking.

Marin’s stern, hardworking, studious mentor. He’s the youngest of the mentors being in his early twenties, he’s only really taken seriously by Marin. He’s much like an older brother to Marin being that he started training her when he was 15 years old. He is a very bad cook. His hobbies include playing banjo, studying ruins, reading.

Akuru Noko;

Akuru is the confident, chill guy, more on the logical side. He does suffer from depression and anxiety because of his telepathy side effect when he uses his attribute so tends to lose sleep. But he’s good at keeping a level head most of the time. His hobbies are reading, sewing, and spelunking.

The easygoing pessimistic elven Knight apprentice, Warren is kind, protective, and hardworking. He’ll take shortcuts to get to his goal, and protect what’s vital. He’s a man of blades and combat. He likes barista brewing, and writing.

Skittish, Shy, and a sweet child; Sorrel is Warren’s younger sibling and the more optimistic of the two, letting gentle winds guide them through hardship. Terrified of being alone in an unknown area; even a fight with the enemy is better. Supportive and soft spoken. They like collecting trinkets and crocheting.

Cora Mosely;

Cora is the chill yet bold archer, unafraid to take a risk. Though more on the analysis side of battle; she likes being able to figure out what may happen next. Tying up her long hair, and an outfit suited for all her jumps, flips, and anything else, she’s ready to beat up some crooks while making a quip or two. She likes dancing, hiking, and cliff diving for training.

I like how the eventually AU gives Camila the opportunity to get another adult's perspective on Luz and the Boiling Isles during the human realm stay. Like, no offense to the kids, but when you're a parent and you're trying to determine if your child is in an okay situation, you're going to put a bit more value on the insights of a fellow adult than those of a bunch of teenagers. Let alone when the situation is that your kid had a secret summer-long stay in another dimension.

So I'm imagining one of the rare moments they get to talk when there's no kids around cuz they're all out trying to build a portal door or something, and it's like

Camila: I've just been so worried about Luz, she's always had trouble fitting in, she's never had any real friends, her teachers don't like her, it's hard for her to focus on things she's not interested in and she has trouble applying herself, I know she's smart but her grades are all over the place, she'd rather think about her fantasy worlds instead of do anything to engage with or prepare for living in the real one - except it turns out she's found a REAL fantasy world? And I'm not sure if that makes things better or worse.

Jasper: Uh, your daughter has made several very close friends and is generally accepted by the entire student body, she rediscovered an ancient type of magic usage that everyone forgot about ages ago, her teachers love her, she successfully convinced her principal to LET students study multiple tracks despite wild magic having been forbidden for fifty years, she's handled every adventure and scrape she's ever gotten into beautifully, she routinely surprises and impresses her mentor Eda the Owl Lady who was up until recently one of the most powerful people on the Isles, she broke Amity free of her parents' toxic influence and successfully deprogrammed my son out of a cult, she's friendly and creative and brilliant and everyone who knows her is extremely grateful to have her in their life.

Which is GREAT

what I love so much about Luz is how much she blossomed in this world and how much her old one stunted her. Makes me crazy that she finished human high school for whatever reason before moving permanently to the isles. I like to think Camila would see that her daughter belonged where she was happy, that the right place for her was, as much as it hurt, not here. And she would rather her be happy than be with her. Obviously she still sees her all the time but like. Luz is herself, all the way, without apology, in the world she found, and she is loved there and understood there. I think vee and Luz make such awesome- foils? Parallels? In that way. Both were brought up in these worlds that suffocated them and stepped into a place where they blossomed, where they could be genuinely truly happy. Vee had only lived in the human realm a few months when the rest of the crew showed up but she'd already fully adapted to human realm stuff! The same way Luz immediately just adapted to everything witchy. Amity and Willow panic at the sight of an alarm clock. Vee is already so familiar with this world she knows how fire extinguishers work, what human food is supposed to taste like, how to speak Spanish and use a cell phone and alarm clocks. The way Luz is like oh NO teenagers but vee just happily sits down and talks to them. These people are like her. They aren't like Luz. Luz is an outsider in the world she was born in and so was vee and it is so much better for them both that they found somewhere they could actually BE.

Anyway yeah lol this timeline Camila can really get the full perspective on how incredibly well Luz has done. From Camila's perspective her daughter ran away from home and when she came back she was wounded, traumatized and seriously depressed. She didn't see how genuinely happy and at peace Luz was there. She is totally reasonable in suspecting this place was Bad For Her.

But while Luz is unwilling to talk too much because she's depressed and all the kids have limited perspectives and probably aren't comfortable talking about luz to her mom anyway- jasper can fully be like yeah no dude you have no idea. She's a bright star people flock to. She's so confident and happy and optimistic and kind. She literally deprogrammed my child soldier son and rescued him from a cult. Won't lie to you ma'am, your daughter has put her life at risk many times and many people have tried to kill her- but they all failed because she is so strong and so loved that he is never alone. Luz is legitimately a hero.

What a wild thing to hear about your child. Both the danger she has been in but also... How much she has flourished within that danger. Your fifteen year old daughter's passion is in saving people from shark attacks or something. It's not just that she's happy, it's that she's strong, fulfilled, passionate, she's filled with a LIFE she never was before.

he & claudien studied & worked together in the eorzea colonies & were kindof 🤞 really into each other but vee got very into black magic and fucked off to focus on that for a bit instead of getting a real job, he did not come back for the exodus so they never reunited until vee eventually made his way to sharlayan proper. i dont know what happens from then to now but he is a scholar/adventurer in that time and when they reunite it is hot and passionate and [insert adjective] . you get it.

As she broadened her horizons, Lady Veronica grew increasingly dauntless, and one might even say (as her parents certainly would) rebellious. Her engagement with courtly life grew more detached and selective with each passing year. She soon became known not only for sharp wit and intellect, but also for a subtle disdain for the usual trifles of society and a penchant for pushing the boundaries of what was considered proper. This naturally led her to being regarded as a dangerous influence to the ladies of her rank, leaving more than a few tongues wagging in her wake.

The shock of her brother’s passing in 1811, taken suddenly by brain fever, ravaged the family with heartache and a difficult inheritance situation, seeing as the Lady Veronica was left as heiress to the estate, which was never entailed. The Earl and Countess pushed together through grief to set a plan in motion – ensure the estate would be kept within the family name through Veronica's marriage to a suitable cousin. Thinking of such plans amidst the perforating pain of moving forward without her brother infuriated Veronica, and failing to come to terms with her newfound position – and chiefly, how this new responsibility will surely confine her, stripping away that which is dearest to her: her freedom – has led a certain numbness to take root in her demeanor, a nonchalance and poignant acerbity, most unfitting to a lady of her station. As the key Season approaches, she might appear more open to suitors than before – less out of genuine interest, and more a defiant escape from her sorrow, distraction found in the thrill of the chase. Her intentions remain far from serious; she is in denial, and terrified of true commitment. With those foolish enough to try to shape her or use her for their own interests, – now that her inheritance elevates her from black sheep to desirable suitor – she shall relish the chance to play her games, turning their ambitions into her sport.

kindred flame (wc on the main): It started as an attraction between kindred souls, much like gravity—two among the ton skeptical of ever finding a love match for themselves. Neither were romantics, but their hearts weren’t so tame as to accept a purely rational marriage arrangement, either. The year of Vera's debut, the spark was there—they butted heads, flirted with others just to rile each other up, bickered senselessly, but never committed, the desire to remain independent speaking louder. The following year, courtship gave way to passion as soon as the season started. They couldn't get enough of each other, and rumors of their affair were plentiful. His family, horrified that she might tarnish their son's good name, made every effort to cut her off from his life, pushing other suitors at him in hopes he'd quickly marry someone more respectable. Her family insisted they be serious with whatever intentions they had. What no one anticipated was how their resistance only made them seek each other out more. They spoke of betrothal, even elopement, just to quell all the noise and finally have their way, but words never turned to action. Very soon after, when Vera's older brother and heir to the Talbots passed away, everything came crumbling down. Vera, now the heiress, withdrew in grief and pushed him away, under pressure from her own family to marry someone who could resolve the inheritance situation. He was livid, intending to go against his family's wishes for her, but now she refused to do the same for him. It has been two years now—perhaps he has settled down with someone else, or might instead be betrothed, or still searching. Vera is just as much in denial as she was when she first got the news. But her heart still skips a beat every time they meet, and she doubts it will ever beat as fast for anyone else as long as she breathes.

third cousin & parents' desired betrothal (wc on the main): he is the talbots' solution to clean up the mess with the estate's inheritance, after lady veronica became its heiress. to keep it attached to the family name, they're pushing for a hasty betrothal between her and this muse. but amidst her mourning, reluctance to embrace her new responsibilities, and irredeemable stubbornness, how she will respond to this pressure remains uncertain.

ride or die: a best friend through thick and thin, more utp.

circle of minxes: spirited ladies eager for some private adventure and mischief, engaging in witty banter, card games, and mayhaps sharing in the thrills of pushing the boundaries of propriety, barely maintaining enough decorum to keep some whispers at bay and our reputations mostly intact. these are trusted friends to whom veronica is fiercely loyal.

mentor: older figure who guides and incentivizes her in intellectual interests and pursuits.

faded bond: used to be friends, but veronica's reputation led this muse to drift apart from her. (taken by priscilla cavendish, open to more)

disappointed suitors: suitors she's indulged and entertained in the past, only to leave behind puzzled and befuddled in her shifting interests.

fellow players: suitors who understand the game she's playing, who see through the whys and hows behind her toying – and frankly, they love it. chaotic flirts. specifics utp.

younger sister (21-23): veronica loves her sister to bits – they quarrel, bicker and annoy each other, but are ultimately loving and supportive of the other's happiness to the very end. now grieving through leonard's death, they need each other more than ever. it might also be the year her sister's first being presented to society, which given veronica's reputation, could lead to a conflicting wish to seek distance, at least for a bit. for more on how I envision the talbots: they're led by a pragmatic earl who values intellectual pursuits, a present figure in academia and scholarly societies. the countess is the more traditional influence in the family, and resents her husband for how much he's indulged their daughters, leading to their (or at least veronica's) prospects to sour a bit, given the daunting, somewhat unorthodox young ladies they have become. late brother's widow: the viscount leonard talbot had been a very sought after suitor in the seasons prior, and this muse's wedding to him was seen by the ton as a formidable pairing. upon his passing, the dowager viscountess was left entirely distraught, stripped from much she had hoped and envisioned for her future – and with veronica now standing to inherit the estate, the relationship between the two is somewhat of a delicate one. veronica took the dowager viscountess' past well meaning attempts to advise her on how to uphold her good name as a bit of unsolicited criticism, ever prone to reactivity and the staunch defense of her individualism. as they grieve together through their loss, we shall see what the future holds for these two ladies. Middle aged men characters are my specialty so really it depends on the delivery you want. Richard Epcar (Ace from 999) could also work for English as well as Bill Butts (Ciocolotta from Jojo part 5)

Makoto Ashimiya/Fumichika Nejima Japanese: Kenjiro Tsuda (Ogata from Golden Kamuy...and also Kishibe from Chainsaw Man). Katsuyuki Konishi could also be a good example but I can't really think of an old man character. I guess Takehito Koyasu could also work? But like this is THE most TsudaKen looking motherfucker I've ever seen English: Joe J. Thomas (Nobunaga Hazama from Hunter x Hunter). His "So I did" line really cemented this casting choice tbh.

Richter Kai Japanese: Shiniciro Miki (Kisuke Urahara from Bleach) English: For this, it depends again on the delivery you want. I originally wanted Doug Erholz (maybe not like Vega from Street Fighter), but upon closer inspection, Ray Chase (Uzui Tengen from Demon Slayer) might be a better pick.

Yutaro Namigaki Japanese: Jun Fukuyama (Draluc from Vampire Dies in No Time) English: It's tempting to put Xander Mobus for the total Joker Persona 5 duology but ehhhhh. It depends on the delivery again. Brian Beacock (Luthier from Fire Emblem Echoes) or Steve Staley (Hubert from Tales of Graces F) could also work tbh. Maybe Lucien Dodge (Waver Velvet from Fate/Zero)

Ayame Touno English: Faye Mata (Amame from AI: The Somnium Files) Japanese: Rie Kugimiya (Rise from Persona 4)

The voices contrast each other, but I think each one compliments the kind of character Ayame is.

Here's where I'm starting to think about 1 solid casting and kinda improvising for the second one. I think the Storyteller changes voices depending on the mask they wear, so for this old man mask, an old man they shall sound like.

Hitomi Okuda Japanese: Ai Farouz (Jolyne Kujo from JJBA) English: Option 1 - Laura Stahl (Alear from Fire Emblem Engage); Option 2 - Erica Mendez (can't think of a role off the top of my head)

reference for Collector's shapeshifted human form for when they observe and interact with humans!

In this form, Collector goes by the name Collie Noceda.

It's fairly obvious who they based their shapeshifted humansona form off of - Luz, Vee, and Camila Noceda.

He deliberated making himself look like a Clawthorne, but coupled with the last name, the paper white skin, the bright yellow eyes... basing himself off of actual fullblooded humans was the better call.

Following the show's events, Collie becomes absolutely fascinated by humans the way they were/are with Titans, and resolves to visiting universes with humans in them so he can observe, study, and learn more about them.

Many who can wrangle it out of them assume Collie is a nickname, and try and extrapolate a full name based off of that. They've been called Colleen, Collette, Cole, Colton, Collin, etc., and will generally respond to + go along with any name conclusion that people arrive at, so as not to raise suspicions.

He carries around a blue and yellow star-patterned backpack that's secretly a pocket dimension inside, and it's where he stores all of his things - Laika and his staff, his bunny plushie Francois, his extra clothing sets, a journal, multiple frozen pizza Bagel Bites, his sleeping bag, blankets, like 50 Squishmallows, a ridiculous amount of Little Debbies cosmic brownies, a cool space-patterned water bottle - you name it, he has it in there.

It was a steep learning curve, trying and managing without their magic. they get fatigued from walking a lot, which they definitely aren't used to; being accustomed to hovering around and floating everywhere most of their life.

He can often be found wandering around human towns and cities, peoplewatching, aimlessly taking busses and trains just to travel and observe people in their daily lives, and ducking in and out of shops - purchasing snacks and fidget toys for himself with crumpled dollar bills.

They're usually thought of as just some neglected latchkey kid, seeing as no parents or adults are ever seen with them, and many people take pity on them and will sneak them things like food and water from time to time - Collie doesn't get that it's out of pity or worry, they just think people are being nice because they want to.

He's fleed his "home bases" before plenty of times, when whatever regional equivalent of CPS finally catches wind of a seemingly unsupervised... girl? Boy? Child?? Traversing the local area, who doesn't appear to be in school and has no one claiming to be related to... him? Her? Them?

They're unbothered by this - they prefer to observe from a distance anyways, opting not to draw attention to themself or anyone else, so whenever they have to pack up and head somewhere new, they view it as a start to a new adventure!

Besides, it's all really for the best. He doesnt want to alert the Archivist Collectors to his location, much less put the lives of mortals in jeopardy... again. After all, he... remembers quite clearly what happened the last few times he's associated with other species.

It's okay. They have their palisman and their plushie; their two best friends in the whole world, to travel by their side. There's nothing else they could want!
