I just saw a post complaining that s4 was a slap in the face to Gerard Way and how hard he fought to get his comics on the big screen. Girl, I hate to break it to yo but s4 is the most loyal to the feel of the comics out of all of them. If anything, he had more writing in this season than any other

writing A Bit at the rewrite of the fic vanya originally appeared in and wondering if the wolf should accompany him on the journey to accomplish all of grandmother's tasks. as well as sirree, tho that would toss a bit of a wrench into things everything considered

bc in the original fic, it's the bureau and haru that vanya kinda tricks into helping him complete those tasks, and they're strangers to him. he seems to like them all well enough, but they don't really Mean anything to him

i think i've established already that vanya isn't particularly warm or Attentive to the wolf despite considering him a friend, but he's generally not that way with sirree and dotes very heavily on her. BUT i do think it'd make for an at least initially comical dynamic between the three of them where vanya is very clearly much more okay with throwing the wolf under the bus than he is sirree and going out of his way to keep her safe

but as the plot keeps on, and why vanya is so intent on completing these tasks for what grandmother has promised him becomes more apparent, i do think sirree will pick up on something, and it'd make for a kind of bomb ticking away in the background

#vanya and sirree weren't really The Focus of the original fic so i didn't really devote a lot of time to them interacting as family #but i'd like to put more of that in the rewrite #it makes sense to do that considering now vanya is the main character lmao and sirree kinda directly ties into what he's trying #to achieve #ooc

the other thing about vanya (hi yes i'm still here will be so for a while) is the sheer whiplash you get while watching it like. there is an element of this in fleabag but that is at least consistent because it is 1 person. vanya is like 1 character (andrew scott) will walk off stage and immediately another character (andrew scott) will walk on. someone else (andrew scott) will be crying and singing and then immediately get interrupted by 2 other people (andrew scott and his friend andrew scott) and we switch right back to comedy. earlier in the play ivan (andrew scott) walks in on two other characters kissing / abt to have sex (andrew scott, and andrew scott). and this all happens so fuckin fast the switches aren't even noticeable sometimes. once more with feeling: WHAT the fuck

#like the whole 1 man thing gets some laughs at first because it IS funny watching him talk to himself but eventually it becomes so natural #you almost forget its NOT eight different people there. + there's little props for each character but the way they're incorporated in feels #so seamless it's incredible to watch. truly. moving between 2 different positions on stage to show who's talking but in a way where it's no #so obvious what he's doing and why. i'm still in my eating glass stage. i have seen things #also there's a) a moment where you can tell the camera operator doesn't know where to focus and b) 1 instance of lighting that is so so #SO pretty. that's how you pull off chiaroscuro. i do like how the camera uses closeups bc it's really nice to be able to see the nuances #+ also when he starts singing i was like about to cry AND the woman next to me whispered 'wow he really does everything' to the person next #to her. and well. it's true #neon has thoughts #theatre tag #vanya #september 12th............

gun just got introduced in a chekhov play let's go who's dying

#on act vi of uncle vanya #i feel like uncle vanya shooting himself is the most obvious move but really i could see anyone of these characters doing the same #sonia is. i think. my second most likely pick?? her or helena. a lot of time has been spent on their emotions #sonia would be a little more unexpected than helena which is why i see it going that route #astroff of course expresses repeatedly that he feels life is meaningless but i think there's unfinished buisness with him #serebrakoff's imminent death is driving parts of the plot so it would make sense for him to go. storytelling wise. and character wise tbh #can't really see a murder happening...but maybe???
