Vanilla Market 2022-2028: Contending Applications
“When the product is right, you don’t have to be a great marketer.” This thought by Lido Iacocca, an American automotive executive, has proven true for various products, even the product in focus today – vanilla. With world exports of vanilla exceeding around $903 million in 2021, it has emerged as a popular spice with diversified applications across industries, including F&B and pharmaceuticals. Estimates indicate Madagascar is the largest vanilla exporter, at 68% in 2021, followed by France, Germany, Indonesia, and Canada. Given the trend, the global vanilla market is expected to flourish at a CAGR of 4.85% during the forecast period 2022-2028.
Numerous players have heavily invested in R&D activities to improve vanilla’s production yield. In the same effort, governments worldwide are making robust efforts to improve quality and production volumes and stabilize vanillin costs, bridging the gap between demand and supply.
Tumblr media
Vanilla Market by Application | Overview
Food & beverage is a major category in the application segment, with ice cream and chocolate gaining the highest share. With consumers seeking non-GMO and no artificial flavor products, companies like Nestlé, General Mills, and Hershey’s are including natural flavoring, elevating vanilla demand. For instance, Nestlé is reformulating products and sourcing natural ingredients to eradicate artificial additives. Besides, food companies are collaborating with natural vanilla manufacturers like Solvay that develop Rhovanil natural vanillin by fermenting ferulic acid. Such steps boost the studied market.
The pharmaceutical category’s growth is mainly propelled by the growing use of vanilla as a medicinal flavoring agent to eliminate odor and foul taste. Also, the ingredient has gained momentum as a vital intermediate in therapeutic drugs for cancers, fever, and tooth decay. Vanilla widens its prospects as an effective component in treating respiratory tract infections and others. For instance, Tanobio provides vanillin to develop drugs for high blood pressure, Parkinson’s disease, etc. In this regard, vanilla powder has emerged as a majorly used form in the pharmaceutical sector. This has led companies like Aurochemicals to obtain a 99% purity rating in its vanillin, surpassing food and pharmaceutical grades.
The personal care industry is anticipated to observe the fastest consumption growth, given the surge in vanilla extract inclusion in cosmetics. Cosmetic manufacturers are widely infusing vanilla extract in soaps, body lotions, and makeup due to its antimicrobial and anti-aging properties. Additionally, due to its distinct aroma, vanilla has gained prominence in fragrance oils, mists, perfumes, deodorants, candles, etc. These benefits led IFF to acquire Fragrance Resources to contend in the fragrance category. And thus, the personal care sector’s expansion may create lucrative opportunities for vanilla manufacturers globally.
Organic Food Trend: A Dynamic Opportunity?
In the age of growing health consciousness, the demand for natural flavors is mostly driven by growing consumer accord to perceive healthy foods derived from organic sources. The growing negative light on artificial ingredients due to health conditions and harm to the environment further contributes to the trend. Also, changing consumer behavior trends and market dynamics for flavorings have compelled companies like ITC, Kellogg’s, Campbell, and Kraft to limit artificial additives inclusion. This represents a promising future for organic flavors in the coming future. Given this trend, retail giants like Walmart are focused on promoting natural additives like vanilla pods by 2025, which may open new avenues for the vanilla market.

I AM SO TIRED OF PEOPLE ASSOCIATING ALASTOR WITH ONLY JAMBALAYA SO HERE ARE OTHER CREOLE DISHES YOU HEATHENS
Fanfiction and Comic creators, this is for you especially.
Crawfish Étouffée
Tumblr media
This beautiful dish was invented in Breaux Bridge Louisiana, where our favourite radio star is from! Although it's invention is attributed the Herbet Hotel in the 1950s -after Alastors death- it is a classic.
Crawfish Étouffée has a sauce typically made from a blonde roux with that classic cajun seasoning. It contains the Holy Trinity of cajun cooking too: bell peppers, onions and celery. The main meat of this dish is crawfish tails and it is usually served with carbs like cornbread, cajun rice or vegetables such as green beans and potato salad.
It is chock full of flavour, and a filling inexpensive dish for low income families - which I believe Alastor is from.
Some alternatives to the crawfish are chicken and shrimp.
-----
The difference between Étouffée and Gumbo.
These two often get mixed up, and I understand, they're both classic Bayou dishes. Here's how to differentiate them.
Texture: Both dishes use shrimp, chicken, or crawfish tail broth. BUT Jumbo has a thicker consistency, it's made from a dark roux and it tends to use more liquid to remain stew-like.
Flavour: Gumbo and Étouffée both use Cajun seasoning, but due to Étouffées blonde roux, it has a lighter, sweeter taste than the darker, fullness of flavour in Gumbo.
Meat: Gumbo uses a variety of meats at the same time (often shrimp and sausage are key components), as mentioned in the alternatives above, Étouffée typically does not.
-----
2. Red Beans and Rice
Tumblr media
We're on a roll guys! This is another dish from Louisiana! Although, it is specifically associated with New Orleans, where Alastor hosted his radio show. It has a fascinating history, partly due to it's African and French/Spanish routes - But it was also a struggle meal during the Great Depression. It was originally a Creole, not Cajun dish.
(Note: Red Beans and Kidney Beans are different legumes)
This dish also contains the Holy Trinity, as well as bay leaves, oregano, cayenne pepper, garlic powder and more. Its protein comes from Andouille sausages, but like Gumbo, a variety of meats are used. If you want Alastor to be traditional about it, he should make it on a Monday incorporating the left over ham bones from Sunday dinner. It is also complimented with long grain white rice and green beans, amongst many other things.
Considering Alastor witnessed the Stock Market Crash of 1929 -which led to the Great Depression - There is no way he hasn't come across this dish before.
3. Creole Bread Pudding
Tumblr media
The queen of Creole Dessert has arrived. Can you guess where she's from? DING-DING-DING! That's right! New Orleans Louisiana baby! Recipes of this treat have been recorded since 1885, so it suffices to say she's a classic.
Like most bread puddings, it is made by combining stale bread (preferably French), beaten eggs and milk. However, this variation often has an incredible amount of vanilla extract. What it will be complimented with varies from person to person. Some examples are: Whipped meringue and whisky, raisins and apple, or walnuts and butter.
Although not as popular in the modern day, I like to imagine this is something Mimzy, Rosie and Alastor might share together on a day out.
-----
There you go! I hope you enjoyed this - but more importantly I hope this helps people create a more diverse version of those cosy Alastor cooking scenes that I love.

So, I've been reading 'Seeds of Hope' by Jane Goodall, because I am curious to what other people are saying about plants, and this book truly delivered. I've been introduced to some past plant drama in the world and that was incredible lore that should have been taught in history.
Apparently, when people first discovered tulips, they were so intensely valuable and popular, that people would trade huge amounts of money, diamonds, or even acres of land, for just one bulb. People were pre-paying for bulbs that didn't even exist yet, they would pre-order bulbs that are not yet even made. One servant ate a bulb thinking it was an onion and he got jail time for it. And I mean they're all correct, tulips just are that good.
There was also a lot of, much sadder drama about orchids; I didn't know this, but they originally grow very high up in the trees, and people were competing for discovering new and rare species. These rare and exotic species would then be displayed in rich people's gardens. Because they became so valuable, poachers would go trough the forests and take almost all of the orchids in there, making them near extinct in nature. This was resolved by orchid gardeners carefully growing them, multiplying and sharing to the point where they were sold commercially, which lessened their value on the black market, so there was no need to pillage them from the forests anymore. Growing rare plants is protection of them!
The book goes on to talk about botanic gardens, herbariums, and the value of collecting and archiving plant material, which is then showing us the effects of climate change, and stores valuable information about what is happening to the plants. It made me want to start a herbarium for sure, I'm always stressed about the loss of local plants, and it's happening more and more as green areas are cleared out.
The book touches upon plants that people have found harmful, such as plants that people make drugs out of; she clears it out to us that these plants are sacred to the native people who grew up with them, and creating drugs from them is in fact, abuse of these plants, and offensive to the communities who hold them sacred, and use them in appropriate doses as medicine. The book talks a lot about plant medicine! Apparently the pharmacy companies have been learning the knowledge about medicinal plants from native people who knew how to use plant medicine, and then the pharmacy would make medicine from those same plants, and profit off of it, without giving any credit or profit to the communities they got this knowledge from, which is not great. But then the demand for this medicine would go so high, they would go and gather all, or almost all medicinal plants from the areas where native people lived, devastating their medical supplies and natural habitats. Book goes on to question the ethics of acquiring medicine in this way, and never informing people where it came from, or what was sacrifices in order for the world to have it.
Similar things happened with valuable crops that are grown in native areas; once the demand for these crops grew, big monocrop fields were established, damaging the land and the local ecosystem, killing millions of animals who lived there, and sometimes forcing people or children into modern slavery, in order to grow them. Coffee, cocoa beans, vanilla beans, palm oil; they've been described as specifically devastating for the communities and the environment. But the book doesn't condemn these foods at all, instead the author goes on to describe, what has been done to improve this. Instead of monocrops, which are devastating for the environment, people are now taught to grow fruit trees in the same fields as coffee, which makes the coffee plants healthier and stronger, and creates and environment where some plants and animals can thrive. I personally don't believe you should have only 2 or 3 plants in a big area, I think you need about 3 millions, but it's a progress from monocrops.
The author describes finding and helping the local farmers who found ways to healthy, natural and non-damaging growing of these plants, and she helped them sell it! She also encourages buying organic food because it helps if the demand for non-monocrop food is growing.
Now there's a section of the book standing strongly against GMO foods, and for some reason I never heard any arguments against gmo, I didn't understand much about the harm coming from them, so I was very curious to hear this. The author explained how 47 million dollars was spent just for lobbying for GMO, which explains why all my information on gmo was positive, and I remember hearing it was 'the best way to reduce world hunger', but the world hunger is still a problem, so it obviously did not succeed. But now I have a better understanding of what it is.
GMO foods were specifically developed to have pesticides inside of them, so they'd be poisonous to pests, but not to people eating them. The research on whether they're poisonous to animals showed that the animals who ate them long term, had their inner organs irritated, enlarged, stomach infections, and had higher risk of cancer. So it was not proven to be safe, but it ended up in the stores anyway; the author says that about 70% of food in american supermarkets has unlabelled gmo, which is scary to think about. She also explains that this is the reason so many people in america are now trying to grow food at home, they don't want to be poisoned by pesticides.
GMO foods were specifically designed to support monocrops, and to protect them pests; this worked out in creating more and more bugs that are resistant to the pesticides, and farmers have reported the appearance of 'superbugs', which are resistant to any kind of pesticide. There's now also 'superweeds', which are resistant to herbicide. The industry is trying to develop new pesticides and new herbicides, in order to counter these new problems, but it is obvious that they're only sinking deeper and deeper; monocrops are unsustainable. Poisoning the earth and the plants, and even the seeds, is not going to lead to the end of world hunger. Farmers are often ending up losing their entire farms due to new bugs that are now thriving because all of their competition has been eliminated by pesticides, they're now the only bug and they can eat up the entire crop easily.
The other problem of GMO crops is that they're spreading their seeds and mixing with the natural crops, making them into GMO crops as well. According to the author the canola crops has already been lost, now all canola existing is genetically modified.
I'm dissatisfied with this knowledge, but it's better to know and be aware rather than to be in the dark. The author suggests designing living spaces that have gardens in them, and encouraging local community to garden, as well as planting city gardens, where food would grow for everyone. She goes on to describe the efforts of universities and cities who already had built their own living gardens in order to support the community, and how it worked to create a more beautiful, life-sustaining, happier place. She even explained how having local gardens makes the crime rate lower.
I loved this book, it had the environment awareness that can only be compared to Greta Thunberg's book, it described trees and plants so lovingly, and the connection people have with them. It showed me there's so many people fighting to save the forests and grasslands and native plants, and it's an effort that will make a big difference to how we get to live on this planet in the future.

Any fragrance recommendations for that dark academia aesthetic?
Love you hope you're drinking water and resting welllllll 😤🫶🤍
MY BELOVED MUTUAL ASKING ME ABOUT MY NICHE INTEREST AND MY FAVORITE AESTHETIC?? SAY NO MORE!
Okay I *started* answering this and then tumblr cancelled on me bc it’s a hating ass bitch.
A lot of these are fall-coded but that’s because fall 🏻 dark academia. I tried to throw in suggestions that can be worn in all seasons, though! I also tried to vary the price points too
Without further ado!
Tumblr media
Novel by ALT fragrances — inspired by whispers in the library from Replica which is one of my all time favorites and I’m STILL salty they discontinued it. I haven’t personally smelled this one but I know so many people who swear it’s almost an exact match!
Notes: top (vanilla) • middle (pepper, cedar wood) • base (tonka bean • woodsy notes)
Indigo by Nest New York — this is one of the best tea scents on the market. I discovered this one last year and honestly it’s a personal favorite. I’ve been through two bottles. Dark and a little sultry but not overpowering and it still has some freshness!
Notes: Italian lemon • orange bergamot • Moroccan tea • Kashmir wood • wild figs
Invite only Amber by Kayali — I associate this fragrance with a snowy night at the library with old Christmas jazz playing in the distance. It’s on my rotation for this winter!
Notes: Amber resin • benzoin • Ceylon cinnamon
Monday by Arielle Shoshanna — ever wanted to smell like a London fog latte? Here’s your perfume!
Notes: bergamot • lavender • lemon zest • black tea • steamed milk • ISO-E super • sandalwood • vanilla • amber
City on Fire by Imaginary Authors — this is THEEEE dark academia perfume. One of its notes is literally labdanum. It doesn’t get more dark academia than that!
Notes: Cade oil • spikenard • cardamom • clearwood • dark berries • labdanum • burnt match
By the Fireplace by Replica — I mean it smells like a bit ol’ crackling fireplace and marshmallow. This smells fucking divine in the cold air in winter (bonus if you have a leather jacket!!). And it’s unisex!
Notes: clove oil • chestnut accord • vanilla accord
Gris Charnel by BDK — another wonderful tea scent. Something about tea scents just screams dark academia!
Notes: fig • black tea • cardamom essence • absolute of iris • bourbon vetiver • sandalwood • tonka bean absolute
L’eau papier by Diptyque — I meannnn it’s a paper-based scent but it smells HEAVENLY. I got stopped like five times wearing this once.
Notes: white musks • mimosa • blonde woods accord • rice steam accord
Coffee break by replica — this is my tried and true. The number one perfume in my collection and my most repurchased. It’s just perfect.
Notes: coffee accord • lavender • milk mousse accord
Honestly look through the entirety of Vilhelm’s perfumery. So many good dark academia scents. My favorites are Dear Polly, Poets of Berlin, and Opus Kore!
Tumblr media
I hope the move went well!! Have you gotten settled in??

My nephew reviews perfume
I'm not sure how my sister heard about Noteworthy Scents, but the concept is, you take a quiz, and they'll send you four Scientifically Chosen samples ($25 USD) based on your answers.
Noteworthy is a new, exciting way to discover your signature scent. Rather than relying on flashy celebrity branding or overblown marketing promises, we want our customers to be in control of deciding which Noteworthy fragrance is right for them. We’re excited that you’re joining us on this journey - we can’t wait to help you find your signature scent.
I have looked at all the fragrances on offer, and I can tell you, they don't happen to have the notes I would want in my One Perfume to Rule Them All (if there's no peach or ylang ylang, I’m not forsaking the rest of my collection). But more to the point, I don't want just one. I've been writing up the things I've been trying for a few months now, and I enjoy the experimenting. But I appreciate what Noteworthy's trying to do, especially for wearers who want something straightforward, and I was perfectly happy to let my sister be the one to try them.
(I did take the quiz, though, and after telling them I don’t like aquatic scents, they said they would send me one that smells like the beach. I closed the tab. My sister told the quiz that she does not like florals and she does not like amber. You’ll never guess what happened next!)
So her Discovery Kit arrived yesterday. She announced this by texting me,
I’m gonna give you feedback from [Nephew] smelling the perfume
Me: Yeah?
As you may recall from one of my music posts, my nephew is six.
(My sister gave me permission to post this.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
n,841
Lemon, tarragon, cedar wood. A powerful, understated blend of citrus and woods. Drawing from poetry’s ability to spark joy and inspiration, this bright lemon and bergamot blend leaves an instant impression before mellowing out into a rich amber and leather base.
My sister: [Nephew] said
smells like raspberries or being in a dungeon like down in a well
Me: ……..I do not see any of those things on the card
Tumblr media Tumblr media
n,551
Lily of the valley, amber, sandalwood. A sensual, comforting, woody scent that cocoons the wearer in notes of warm, glowing sandalwood and cozy, soft cashmere—freshened up with Lily of the Valley.
smells like lime juice or being inside a pumpkin
Tumblr media Tumblr media
n,307
Mandarin, basil, sandalwood. Inspired by nostalgic childhood trips to lemon groves, fresh flowers swirling together in the summer breeze, and the radiant colors of perfectly ripe citrus, this energizing fragrance stars juicy mandarin and soft sandalwood, plus light notes of basil.
green grape juice or being on top of an umbrella at the beach
Me: that’s very specific
Tumblr media Tumblr media
n,057
Passionfruit, vanilla, tonka bean. Let n,057 become your signature: remarkable, evocative and distinctly yours. Keep your fragrance at home or take our travel spray with you. Fitting snugly in your purse, pocket, or suitcase, it's the perfect on-the-go perfume.
My sister: I think he’s losing his focus on this last one. He said
lemon juice at the lemon store
My perfume sample budget got used up on, like, ugh, actual necessities this month, or I'd give Noteworthy a try for science. On a second try, my quiz results were (very likely overlapping with my sister's):
A captivating blend of warm woods and zesty citrus, like strolling through a sun-drenched forest grove. An intriguing fusion of exotic spices and earthy notes, evoking the vibrant energy of a bustling cityscape. A delightful combination of tropical fruits and delicate florals, reminiscent of a refreshing breeze in a lush garden. And for an unexpected wild card fragrance, a scent that defies expectations because science cannot always predict desire.
Currently, my sister says that she can tell that the Noteworthy fragrances are well-made, but they're not "her"; apparently she's in the 11% algorithm failure group—or maybe she just needs time for them to grow on her! Who knows! She'll bring over her samples for Sunday dinner, and I'll report back if they do, in fact, smell like being inside a pumpkin.

Donnie and Mikey are in the kitchen set, they're both in chef's uniform. Though Donnie has his AR glasses on, they offered Mikey a pair, but he declined because 'it would distract him from cooking'.
They're making 'Summer Snacks with some science'.
Donnie grabs an odd looking device and sets it up while the audience is questioning what it is. Mikey has returned with salt, cream, a few random labeled canisters, and a cooler.
"Okay, so now we're going to show you some easy ways to make your own icecream. Though results may vary, this is how we make it." Donnie explains while pulling a few pint sized tubes from inside the machine.
"Oooohh, there's so many possible flavors to make!" Mikey gushes while placing down ingredients, "I want to try mixing up this one flavor I saw pop up in my feed. What was the mixture again?" Mikey pulls out his phone to look up the recipe.
"While you do that, I will start with a sorbet recipe, and see how if it sets properly. We haven't messed with sorbet as much, I don't think it's too different, but it's for food science!" Donnie exclaimed as he grabs a food processor type gadget. He has a projection of a recipe floating next to him. "Okay, so depending on which recipe, this either needs sugar, or syrup, fruit puree or juice... it's almost just a more complex juice pop than something like icecream."
"I think I found the one I saw earlier!" Mikey announces while holding his phone in the air. "Alright, so we just need to make a vanilla base, and add a few extra things. Though we need to substitute a couple ingredients in this one."
"It has nuts in it?" Donnie questions while tossing some cut up fruit into the food processor.
"It has nuts in it." Mikey confirmed, "I wonder if I could switch it for sunflower seeds, or would it mess up the taste?" He asked out loud while looking over the ingredients they have prepared.
"Well these will just be small batches, so just test it out. If it doesn't work, Red will still eat it. Since it shouldn't trigger his nut allergies." Donnie replies back while measuring out the sugar to add to the sorbet mixture.
Mikey nods his head, then starts grabbing what he needs to make the vanilla ice cream base for his mix.
Donnie then cleared his throat, "Now for those who have been asking, this device is a custom built Ice Cream Maker, that makes multiple small batches at once. You put the mixture into these tubes, and they go inside the machine where it gets a bit tumbled and mixes while being super chilled." Donnie has some videos demonstrating how the machine works pop up while he explains this.
"It's very handy for when we all can't agree on which flavor we want to make. Or we want to mess around with multiple flavors." Mikey adds while mixing together the cream, milk, sugar, some salt, and some fresh-ish vanilla bean.
The audience watched as the two mix together several ice cream mixtures that get put into the Ice Cream maker, and a few Sorbet mixes get put into the freezer.
"While those get mixed and set, let's use the rest of this fruit to make some refreshing drink mixes!" Mikey shouts while Donnie cleans up some of the work area.
"Let's hope we still have some of that delicious melon left. Because you're still banned from that farmers market right?" Donnie asks nonchalantly with a small smug look.
Mikey freezes before turning towards Donnie with a harsh glare, "You know good and well, that it was not my fault! He wanted $50 for a small bag of citrus fruits, that were $10 at most at a different stall." He says with a slight growl.
"Well you didn't need to beat him up over it."
"He said my culinary skills were worse than prison quality! Prison Quality! He deserved to be sent to the worst prison in the world for that!!!" Mikey yells, shocking the audience.
The audience are spamming the chat with lots of confused messages and emojis combinations.
"I would question why he insulted your cooking, but I don't want to get on Dr. Delicate Touch's bad side." Donnie says, "Do we have any club soda left, of do we need to send Blue to get more?" They add to try redirect the subject, and not get something thrown at him for bringing up the topic in the first place.
The continue on with testing out drinks, until the timer went off to check on the ice cream. The audience split on wanting to know more about Mikey getting banned from a farmers market, and wanting to talk about what the duo was making during the stream.

spidey and sprinkles - peter b. parker x gen!reader
this is part one to a multiple chapter series that i have posted on ao3 as well.
summary: While settling into your new apartment in New York, you find yourself enamored with Peter B. Parker, as he spices up your daily life.
You gleamed at the setup of your apartment. Everything was aesthetically pleasing, from the color coordination of the furniture to the pictures and artwork you had managed to stick to the wall. Although it had taken you weeks after your actual move-in date to achieve, it finally paid off, and pride echoed in your chest as you admired the home you made for yourself.
Rome wasn’t built in a day, which was made crystal clear to you as the light of your phone demanded your attention. The decorating that brought itself late into the night displayed itself in the form of the clock on your phone, and now all that was left was to settle into your bed.
You began to slip into your pajamas when a familiar sound erupted from your stomach—a grumble. Once the soft fabric of your pajama pants collides with your skin, it dawns on you that you haven’t eaten at all, being so preoccupied with decorating your new apartment. You slip on a jacket and some slides, grab your keys, and hop into your car.
The car stops at a 24-hour grocery store nearby. The parking lot is empty, safe for a few cars that you only can assume are majorly from staff, with a few customers looking to get a late-night snack like yourself. Slightly spooked by the darkness outside, you quickly enter the glowing market to find yourself wandering down the aisles, pushing a primarily empty cart. Pizza dough, shredded cheese, and some pepperoni make their way into said cart, the idea of a homemade pizza teasing itself for tomorrow's lunch. Grabbing a few more essentials, you get down to the ice cream aisle. Your hand grabs the last bin of vanilla bean as a treat for your hard work. As you reach for it, your hand comes into contact with a slightly warmer and softer one.
You look up and are met with the brown eyes of a man who can’t be any older than his late 30s. You shyly retract your hand while he does the same. The older man awkwardly rubbed his hand behind his neck.
“Sorry, I didn’t know vanilla bean was that popular option.” You smiled at him.
He chuckled, gesturing towards you to take it. “I insist you have it. I can grab a different flavor.”
You frowned, shaking your head and pointing to the container. “No, it’s okay. I can grab something else.”
The exchange goes back and forth until you both coincidentally reach for it and touch your hands again.
The two of you both let out a light laugh, catching the attention of two teens. One is a blonde girl with her head half-shaven, and the other is a brown skin boy with a visually unique jacket. The blonde girl smiled at the older man while walking up to him.
“Did you find the ice cream, or were you busy flirting over here?” She laughed.
This caused the boy next to her to punch her shoulder gently. “C'mon, leave him alone, Gwen!”
The older male rolled his eyes at her as she grabbed the container and placed it into her smaller handheld basket. You couldn’t tell if you wanted to laugh at his obvious annoyance or the red tint that crept across his face at the girl’s blunt description of the situation.
The male pulled out his wallet and handed a couple of bills to the younger boy. “You and Miles go up and pay, and I will catch up in a sec.”
The two teens giggled, walking off and whispering things to each other that you could only assume were pretenses about you two.
The guy turned his attention back to you, a slight smirk on his face. “Well, since it’s my fault your ice cream is gone, I feel responsible for helping you find something else to eat.”
You smiled at his apparent gesture to spend more time with you, but you couldn’t help but accept. “What about your kids?”
He raised his eyebrow, “My..kids?”
“The two kids that you just gave money to?” You stared at him questionably; how can someone forget about their kids?
His confused face turned into one of realization as he shook his head quickly. “No, no, those aren’t my kids. They’re just my friends.”
“Your friends are..two kids?” You questioned jokingly.
Embarrassment was written on his face as he covered it, “No! No! They just come around, and I’ve known them for a bit, so I let them stay! And-“
You cut him off before he over-explained himself. “I know what you mean; I’m just messing with you.” Your eyes wandered around the shelves of the aisles that you two traveled before stopping next to some cookies.
He grabbed the box and observed them. “You can’t go wrong with cookies.”
You nodded, taking the box he handed you and placing it in your cart. The two of you made your way up to the checkout line in silence as the two teens that presumably came with him were finishing their payment.
You rang up your items as he handed the kids the keys to place their purchase in his car. He waited for you to finish before grabbing the bags for you.
“Allow me to walk you to your car. It is pretty dark, after all.”
You agreed and took one of the bags from him.
“By the way, I never asked for your name.” He grinned as he walked you to your car.
“It’s Y/N, and what’s yours?” You took the bag from his hand and placed it into your car with the other.
“It’s Peter.” He handed you his cell phone awkwardly, trying to find the right words. “Will you…if you-“
“Are you asking me for my number?” A curious grin was forming on your lips.
“Yes..” He admitted sheepishly.
You entered your number and handed it back to him. “Thank you, Peter. Call me whenever. I’m always free.”
You got in your car and drove off, leaving him dumbstruck in the parking lot that his charm worked. He walked by to his car, only to be met with questions upon questions from Miles and Gwen.
“Did you get their name?” Miles asked immediately.
“Yeah! It’s Y/N.”

sonic and cooking head canons
sonic. no way he knows a lot of modern home cooking if any home cooking when he knows he can just buy it or have dinner with tails / amy, BUT he should know basic foraging and gathering by now and has plenty experience cooking on a camp fire.
tails. is better at meal prep then cooking or at least he thinks he is why spend so much time making 2 to 3 meals a day every day when he can just make 3 meals and increase the ingredients by 700% and save the rest for the other days of the week but he will cook somthing fresh when he has guest over, if you can consider boiled hot dogs fresh that is.
amy. she is a great home cook and will cook with cream vanilla and big from time to time, the problem is when she wants to get fancy and trys to make a new recipe and has full confidence when she is in reality way over her head, and it dosent matter what she is making she will say "and now the secret ingredient" its love the secret ingredient is love and its not much of a secret if its the secret ingredient in every thing she cooks.
knuckles. similar to sonic but has the benefit of being on the same island all the time, he doesnt have a oven or any electric equipment but he does have some primitive stuff like a mortar and pestle, plus knuckles should have a garden some where on the island yeah its over grown and poorly kept but its still a place where he can get some snacks.
cream and vanilla. these two are the best cooks in town even better than amy any thats ok because they are happy to invite people over for dinner and if you cook with them you will probably learn some thing new, also the serving sizes are pretty big as vanilla is most defiantly the tallest person in town.
eggman. in thought he is a master chief but in action he has not cooked in years think about it the food he eats is more than good enough to keep up his large shape despite all the mechanics work he does and he had to program or train his robots to cook at some point, so he know how to work a kitchen but he is so busy and he has robots that can do it for him so he probably never cooks more than once a month or even less.
shadow. he is a picky eater with a nostalgic taste in food so he knows how to cook food but nothing passed the 60s, and despite not making any thing trendy or popular he at least knows he will make some thing he will eat.
rouge. its fair to say she likes to eats high class how she gets the money for these lavish meals is well not all ways moral, but she is willing to eat some thing simple when at social gatherings most defiantly if she does not have to pay for it.
omega. I dont know if it is said or not if they have a animal powering them but if they do that bird is getting ripped(its probably a flicky) we are talking protein powder steroids fresh salad, it does not matter if its weird and maybe traumatic to feed them chicken and rice but thats what professional marshal artist eat so thats what omegas power source eats too!
charmy. he makes peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the mourning for school days/work days and is proud of them.
espio. he is well known at the asian market and knows how to cook but does not get to learn any thing expensive or fancy ether for price and schedule issues.
vector. boy he has been trough the rough of it he knows how to feed 3 people on 400$ a month, and thats by hanging out at vanillas house.
team hooligan. bark and fang probably know some recipes but bean is a chemical fanatic one minute there making muffins and the next minute there pulling out a whole tray of crystal meth.
silver. i dont think he has a steady supply of food is most apocalyptic futures so he just likes to eat a pound of dry cement for breakfast.
surge and kit. they use to get fresh meals when starline was around, but now they got use to the effort of MREs if it takes more effort than poring water in a thermal bag then its worth the effort to just mug some one for some diner cash.

nia brought back a big ol' bag of perfume samplers, so we did a blind dip grabbing them out of the bag and testing each of them. we all agreed that Black Opium smells like old lady, and mom in specific went on to say it smelled like a soviet perfume every woman used to wear named red moscow. i've looked it up and actually they share jasmine, vanilla, and orange blossom notes. i want to smell that too, the iris and tonka bean base notes in particular really spark my curiosity. Perfect by Marc Jacobs smelled downright bizarre and like market cucumbers to me, although i now realize that was the rhubarb top notes. maybe the sample went bad because i refuse to believe marc would make a scent like this, need to test it in a store. Jazz Club by Maison Margiela Replica hit me like a fucking truck and i did not like it either, but of course mom liked and kept that one. None of us liked the Clean Beauty Collective sample, it may have been the nectarine one. Mom liked Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia but that too was very heady for me, she kept that. i kept My Way, Alien Goddess and Vanilla Woods by the 7 Virtues. very happy to say that my gut instinct was right, and My Way is a perfect fragrance for me, i want a full bottle asap. alien goddess was apparently the Mugler attempt to target a younger/gen z audience and i like that i connected with that one too lmao. willow smith was in the ad campaign and i'd seen it before and forgotten about it, i judge fragrances by who they use for their campaigns because you can really tell a lot that way (on that note i desperately want to try Miu Miu Twist because they had the cutest elle fanning campaign for it).

The Hungry Lion Throws Itself on the Antelope | Kinktober 2024 | “walk in the woods”
prompt: in public
pairing: alex/portia
word count: 1305
song: “you can’t quit me, baby” by queens of the stone age
The snow never came, but instead we were treated to bands of clouds and a cold wind. But Portia wanted us to brave through it, even if she, too, wanted to cozy up on the bed, albeit right next to me with her arms wrapped around my body. I sat up in the bed, still with the bottom hem of my shirt pulled up over my body to show her the little bit of softness she had given me. There was a part of me that wanted to play with her a bit more, especially once we found ourselves outside of the house and I had gotten dressed in a little sweater and a fresh pair of pants.
“Come on, I gotta get some things,” she coaxed me, and she lightly patted my belly. I was soft and tender there, like I had a small pillow tucked under my shirt. She rested her hand on me, and then she inched in closer to me. “When we get home, we can curl up together under the blankets. Curl up under the blankets and I can put my fingers all over you.” She kissed me on the side of the face. I tugged on the bottom hem of my shirt, right over the softest part of my belly.
When I thought about the cold out there, I realized that I was cocooned and wrapped up in the soft fabric, and I was about to be wrapped up even more under the safety of my coat. Portia and I both tucked away in the warmth and safety of her car as we made our way back down the hill to the market: the clouds hung low over us all the way down the hill and into town, and I could envision the snow all around us, the thick heavy banks that told me that Christmas and Hanukkah both were coming.
When we got there, and we were met with that cinnamon and anise smell near the front doors, I turned to her as the butterflies welled up in my stomach. I had no idea what she was going to make for me as well as for the party she had told me about before.
“Okay, so what do you need?” I asked her, and she took a little list out from her purse for me to look over with her.
“Let’s see: flour, brown sugar, butter, milk, fresh veggies, beans, vanilla extract, noodles, and egg whites,” she read aloud.
“Egg whites!” I raised my eyebrows at that.
She lightly tapped me on the tip of my nose.
“Noodles and egg whites—you know what that means, right?”
“Good ol’ kugel,” I declared, and I ran my hand down my chest and onto my belly. Portia picked out a basket and she led me over to the produce section. I peered over my shoulder to the bakery section, all the cakes and pastries and things on display. There was a big part of me that felt as though I was being seduced just looking at them: the sugar and cream, the fact that it all came together in one big concoction like some malevolent science experiment.
It was tempting me. And Portia was tempting me.
It didn’t help matters that she held a pair of full, ripe apples up to her nose for a whiff, and all the while, she lifted her gaze up to me. I showed her a smile as I picked up the first pomegranate closest to my face, and I held it close to my chest.
“Pomegranate, eh?” she asked me as she took a plastic bag from the roll off to the side and bagged some apples for us.
“Yeah, the seeds are glorious and they’re cheap-o, too,” I told her. Once she tied the bag of apples, she then took the pomegranate from my fingers. She leaned into my face for a kiss, and then she reached down and lightly patted my belly. In fact, every corner of the produce section we went, she kissed me on the face and patted my belly. When we doubled back towards the bakery, and I caught a whiff of a cake or pie being made, she lingered back behind me.
I was about to turn around to ask her what she was doing when she flexed her fingers on my ass.
“Hey, cut it out,” I scoffed, to which she giggled at me, and she picked out two bottles of juice from crisper at the end of the aisle. She kept on touching me even as we made our way to the baking aisle, with her arm around the small of my back and my hand on my hip.
“I don’t want to stop touching you,” she whispered right into my ear. She picked out a bag of flour and a jar of vanilla extract, and I could feel my pants tightening up at the sight of it.
As she strolled on down the aisle, and I spotted the milk and eggs down at the far end, I let my eyes wander to the shelves adjacent to me and the baking section. The kosher section.
I had no idea where the noodles and pasta would be in there, but I knew egg noodles when I spotted them. I stood before the shelves with my hands before me as if I was about to pick out the most delicate of things from the display before me. Those packages of matzoh meal. The little jars of Israeli couscous. The glass jars of olives and pickles next to one another. The tea biscuits straight out of Tel Aviv and Haifa.
Before I could even so much as swipe some egg noodles again, she pinched the seat of my pants, and I lunged forward and caught myself before I got a face full of gefilte fish.
“Seriously, Portia—I need to think straight.” She then inched back away from me with her free hand tucked in her pockets, and I squinted my eyes at her. That was it.
I turned to the shelves before me, and I picked out the egg noodles from the bottom. I would always be in the mood for some kugel once the snow began falling all around us.
She then tapped her fingers on the handle, and I stuffed my hands into my pockets in the meantime.
“Okay. Where were we?” I showed her a smile and I ran my fingers through my hair. She leaned into my face for a kiss on my lips.
“The beans next, and then we bounce,” she told me, and she interlocked fingers with me, and we walked on over to the next aisle for the canned goods. A can of green beans, followed by some of kidney beans, black beans, and pinto beans.
The next couple of nights would be laced with lush kugel and a big pot of chili with some little handheld Yorkshire puddings accompanying, and I knew for a fact that I would have a few more pounds on me once I returned to the Bay Area. In fact, when she mentioned the pot of chili and Yorkshire puddings, I could feel my pants tightening again. I hoped they wouldn’t be too tight when I returned home.
All the while, I would be haunted by the cinnamon and anise smell as well as the sight of the baked goods in there.
I had no doubt in my mind that I was being tempted, seduced, and a great part of me did in fact feel as though it was intentional. She wanted to further get under my skin, and I could sense that feeling as we padded back out to the cold. But I would be laughing all the way down to hell all the while.

American Girl Doll inspired fake perfumes, Part 1
Molly- reading a long awaited letter in a sun warmed victory garden— but no turnips here! Dandelion and strawberry flowers, tomato vine, clean laundry drying on the line. Raspberry bush flowers and ripe raspberries make a juicy and rosey base with hints of greenery.
Samantha- pink roses on white satin ribbon, thick icing on petit fours, an accord of creamy vanilla bean ice cream with a hint of salt and gingerbread. Base notes of gentle white musk and tonka bean.
Marie Grace— A delicate china plate of sugar dusted beignets and rhubarb rose jam. A heart of medicinal lavender and a straw basket filled with magnolia flowers from the market.
Cécile: apricot blossoms and thinly iced almond cakes. Airy violets and sparkling peonies play over a base of berry custard and velvet ribbons.  Felicity— A sugar cube on a slice of tart apple, the wind against your face as you ride your horse through a flowering meadow. A base of black tea and beeswax candles.
