So I was gonna do something cute & then my brain went feeding = vampire AU & I couldn’t argue with that.

Now I just really want a fic where Monster Enthusiast Shen Yuan somehow manages to befriend Liu Qingge without ever realizing he’s vampire despite all his years of research. Poor boy suffers being battered against the rocky shores of his love’s obliviousness until he literally can’t keep making excuses for all of Liu Qingge’s quirks.

Shang Qinghua is one of the SV characters I can most relate to purely in terms of also being a writer. I know that a lot of the stuff I want to write won’t end up being super popular (a romance with a purposefully unsexy vampire? a story between an m/f best friend pair with a really deep emotional bond and no romance? come on) and publishing is a nightmare anyway. But the difference is that I don’t plan to make a living off my writing. Poor SQH does. So if he wants to do fun things like pay his bills and eat food every day, he has to pander to the big audience.

He’s written other things that weren’t PIDW. Things that weren’t trashy stallion novels. Things he might’ve had a passion for and put his heart into. No dice. So PIDW it is and my god I can’t imagine how annoying and frustrating it is that the one work that you purposefully sold out on so you can, yknow, survive, is the only one that got big. It got really big. Really popular. That’s gotta be so fucking enraging. Imagine that, you think sitting down to write something you like is hard? Try to pump out a few thousand words of some crap you don’t even like every day, crap that you know had potential if following your actual ideas and plans for the characters would allow you to pay rent. Alas. The characters you lovingly crafted are watered down now. No one cares that you came up with a really compelling backstory for this one villain, he did bad things and he got murdered and that’s all anyone wanted to see. Not a real story, not something you put love into

In a way I think that’s partly why he and SQQ became friends. I’m a writer, we like feedback. We like to hear what people think of the things we write, even negative feedback can be appreciated. So if you have this one guy who reads everything, comments frequently, and (most important) can see how absolutely shitty this work of yours is? Someone that also sees the wasted potential of this story? Gotta be worth something.

Warning for spoilers, He’s the War God of Bai Zhan Peak basically the original sword gay in the world of SVSSS, whether or not you ship him with Shen Qingqiu, Luo Binghe or neither the point still stands that he’s a draw his sword first ask questions later kinda guy. Also SQQ basically canonically calls him a pretty boy, what more do you need 

He's one of the best swordsmen in-universe! According to the author, he's not interested in a relationship so he's canonically aro and possibly ace as well!

For Kurogane:

He's been practicing swordplay since his dad started teaching him when he was a kid, and inherited the sword Ginryuu that's been in his family for generations.  He now uses his skill with a blade to protect the people he cares about, and is considered the strongest swordsman in his country.  He once cut off his own arm with his sword to save the life of the man he loves, and honestly isn't that just Peak Sword Gay?

he's over six foot & his sword is almost as tall as he is, his husband (technically not canon but by god the queer subtext is h e a v y) is an immortal vampire wizard twink whose life he saved by cutting off his own arm, he's a family man first & a mass murderer second, he's that one tumblr post that's like "it's not my fault my love language is acts of service & all I know how to do is kill", he is the most mentally stable member of his traumatized little found family & he's doing his level best to drag the rest of them up with him no matter how much they (specifically his husband) might kick & scream about it

Mxtx wwdits!au where hc, wwx and sqq are vampires and xl, lwj, and lbh are their familiars

They all live together in a big ass mansion that the familiars mostly take care of. Hc is the youngest of the vamps, around 800 years old, wwx is about 900 and sqq is a couple years away from 1000.

Hc was turned just when he entered adulthood, so he perpetually looks about 19. Wwx was turned when he was about 25, and sqq was turned when he was about 29. Lwj and lbh are 29 and 25 respectively, and xl is 31. Lbh has been a familiar the longest, followed by lwj and then xl

Sqq took orphan street kid lbh off the streets and invited him to live with him, and so lbh has been his familiar for 10 years now and is kinda anxious as to why sqq hasnt turned him yet. The reason is mostly bc sqq wants lbh to live his life free of the burden of vampirism and immortality, and assumes that lbh will eventually leave him if he just ignores the issue enough (even tho he desperately does not want him to leave. He’s quite fond of his white lotus).

Lwj actually comes from a very long line of vampire hunters, and was actually intending on killing wwx. However while he was stalking him he accidentally kinda fell for him a bit, so he decided to become wwx’s familiar instead (he tries to keep his past a secret, bc he doesnt wanna freak everyone out). Hes been a familiar for about six years now.

Xl has been a familiar for only about three years. He used to be a detective, and one night while investigating a series of strange murders he came across an incredibly handsome man who instantly bewitched him. Soon after their encounter xl was accused of corruption and was blamed for the murders, and was arrested. The mysterious man from that night swept in and wiped the minds of everyone involved, saving xl, so xl became hc’s familiar to pay him back (hc insists that he does not need to be paid back, but if it keeps gege by his side then that’s alright with him). Xl is actually the reincarnation of the crown prince of xianle, who saved hc’s life when he was still human. Later on the two became lovers, but xl was cruelly murdered by jun wu, a covetous vampire king who then turned hc. Hc has spent the past 800 years finding xl’s reincarnations only for them all to be murdered by jun wu. This is xl’s 10th reincarnation.

(Also xl definitely has attempted mass murder in this au, which he hides from the others. Bc of this, he is the only one who lwj confesses his true nature to)

Also lbh is definitely still half Demon in this au, which eventually comes to up later and causes all sorts of problems)

finally watched mignon (which u should totally go watch, the art, story, and animation are all phenomenal!!), and every time mignon called for his doctor, it was a little too reminiscent of another puppy calling out for his shizun.

for those unaware, mignon is basically a boxer in an illegal fighting ring, and the fighting ring's doctor, oh young, patches him up after every fight. eventually, mignon discovers that oh young is a vampire that takes blood from the unconscious fighters in his clinic. mignon strives to win as many fights as he could in order to make sure oh young gets plenty of fighters to collect blood from.

just really reminds me of how lbh is and if ever sqq was a vampire, he'd totally do the same.

the three svsss aus i have in the works could not be more varied in tone. we've got a vampire au with cheesy gothic tropes and sqq's guilt complex. lbh gets turned into a vampire by sqq, and they have to deal with the consequences.

then a road trip modern/canon fusion au where cumplane are trying to meet up with their internet boyfriends in person for the first time and end up stuck in a car together slowly driving each other insane. and then make poor decisions regarding hooking up with each other en route to said internet boyfriends.

finally, a completely sfw summer camp au, another modern/canon fusion. it features one-sided bingqiu where sqq is an 18 year old camp counselor dealing with the usual teenage angst, while a 14 year old lbh has an obsessive crush on him. maybe even some liushen, with lqg also being a camp counselor.

this book series has completely consumed my brain

Well might as well share my dream I had last night (note, i wrote this all down very quickly at 4 am so sorry for typos):

QJL is like a ruler or smth and Binghe is his brother (half-brother????)

Binghe and his mother are treated horribly by the kingdom's staff and qjl

Binghe is in love with Sqq but they are not in a relationship yet

Binghe wants to take down Qjl and tried to trick him by letting Binghe go off on some mission for Qjl (to find some jewel or smth? But actually binghe would find smth to take qjl down) but Qjl goes back on his agreement and tells everyone he is dead

Binghe comes back tho (after a month or smth) and sneaks back in once he realizes qjl tricked him. His mom is very happy to see him, but when Qjl realizes Binghe is back he continues to try and lock binghe out of the kingdom

Binghe keeps coming back tho, not only for his mother but also sqq (he believes qjl wants to take sqq as a concubine or smth) and to try and take qjl down

Binghe has some help from Mobei-jun and Sqh later on, the two joining him for some reason (probably to take qjl down)

One attempt to get back into the palace involved them climbing through pipes with oil (vividly remember an amused binghe hosing both Mobei-jun and Sqh down with some kind of clear liquid also from a pipe)

Qjl and a lot of the members in the palace are... crystal creatures? They look like normal humans and stuff, but instead of thriving off food and water they survive off of being around jewels (and also pretty discriminatory towards ppl who aren't jewel creature things, which is part of the reason why qjl and the staff tormented binghe and his mother so much)

Binghe (but also maybe sqq? I can't remember, but I think Binghe planned this with someone else) at some point sneaks in to qjl's baby prince's room and takes the very important nutritional out of the crib (can't remember why binghe did this either, but I'm pretty sure it was some kind of eye-for-an-eye situation. I don't think Binghe's mom was killed, but I do think Qjl did something horrible to her that set Binghe off)

Qjl freaks out cause for some reason only that specific jewel can give the baby the nutrition it needs to survive. Binghe is not found out, but Qjl is so pissed he send him to the dungeons anyway to rot away (mbj and sqh are also there but don't know why)

Sqh says it's very unlikely they'll be able to escape, but Binghe is stubborn because his not just gonna leave his mother and sqq behind like thag and tries to dig his way out, which takes a long time (and is very painful) but he succeeds.

Binghe stumbles upon Yqy (who is weirdly big in this au, think vampire lady from resident evil tall) and does some kind of favor for Yqy.

When Yqy and Binghe arrive at the palace, Yqy confronts Qjl who is shaking in his boots. Apparently, Qjl was never the actual ruler but just a stand-in until the real ruler returned.

From Sqq's mumbling in the background (cause he's a drama whore) Yqy is the real ruler (and Sj is implied to be the empress, but Qjl's kid wasn't from Sj but some random concubine).

Binghe pretty much tuned everything else once he sees Sqq, so ecstatic to see him and that everything will finally be over, he doesn't even process Sqq's mumblings and just goes over to kiss him

(Yes its implied Sqq is a transmigrator JDHH)
