Ambrosius & Pietro, creators of life

In Creation, we meet Ambrosius, the spirit residing in the Staff of Creation.

Despite his theatrics, he's mostly shown bored and disappointed when talking about the projects he's been tasked to create, because they were either unimaginative or already too finely tuned before even reaching him.

But neither of those descriptions fits with team RWBY's request regarding Penny, and it shows in his enthusiasm.

He expresses fascination with the concept of someone being able to create life in an unconventional way, mentioning how he'd like to meet the one that built her (that we know to be Pietro, her dad).

Ruby uses very careful wording in her request, as he himself notices. That ends with her giving him the room to "get creative" and find a solution to what is hurting their friend.

Before all of this, it's also important to remember what he says when she started talking about how Penny was dying: "I'm going to go ahead and assume that you know it's against the rules for me to bring people back from dead, so -" and what expression he has while bringing it up.

Connecting these small pieces, we can tell something important about Ambrosius: 1) he enjoys the process of coming up with solutions for his works and 2) he himself is interested in the concept of creating life. Something that he has the ability to do but can't and it's dangled in front of him, right out of his reach.

Ambrosius mentioning Penny's creator isn't just a small nod to Pietro for us to enjoy but also a connection between the two has been made; both of them as creators of life.

In Penny's "rebirth" scene and explanation, we are told that whatever he creates himself will get destroyed the moment he makes something else. So, if we, supposedly, wanted someone back to life we'd have to have the "ingredients" ready for him to rearrange in a way that lets them keep existing even if the Staff was to be used yet again after it.

So, a body and a soul. Ready to be merged again.

For Clover we have the first one, the only body we have seen so far in the show being still intact, and we are missing the second piece. But are we really?

(Note: From this point onward it's mostly me just trying even more to put things together so this might all just turn out to be very wrong)

Clover's pin has been shown in both the intros for volume 7 and volume 8, focused on in v7ch3's AceOps battle against the Geist in the mines, after the fight in v7ch12 and in most of Qrow's scenes, starting from v7ch13 and continuing during v8. He used it to channel his semblance, something that we know is directly connected to aura.

Pietro explained to Ruby (and to us as well) how he was able to both create her AND how he was able to bring her back.

Using his own aura and her core, left unscathed after her death. Unscathed like Clover's pin was.

Another important point is what Oz says while explaining how the spirit in the Staff works: "He can build you anything but only if you can explain to him how. Like any craftsman, he'll need blueprints. Some sort of reference."

Thanks to this scene in Dark (v8ch8), we know that Penny's body is mostly similar to what human bodies are like, more or less.

This gets fuzzy real fast because I'm not sure how they would bring up the idea of using her schematics as "blueprints" for Clover's revival but it's still something that I felt like pointing out.

I'm not implying that this whole process would be easy, because otherwise Ambrosius would have probably have had the opportunity to before and he would have had to meet someone smart and/or brave enough to bend the rules just enough to make it work, but that's just another reason why Ambrosius would be thrilled to get his chance in accomplishing it.

I feel like I should write a conclusion for this somehow quite long post about Pietro and Ambrosius and I might as well use this space to include why I made this whole thing in the first place: Penny was already confirmed as a real girl by Fria passing her own Maiden powers to her, and Pietro being a reference to Geppetto to her being Pinocchio is abundantly clear. Since her personhood is brought up constantly, we didn't need the reminder.

In Creation, we have Penny creating the "body" she always wanted for herself, shaping her own aura to do so. Ambrosius is shown giving her the tools to make it by herself, with a small push from him. But this was just a step in saving her from the hacking, it actually isn't a rebirth. It's more of a temporary solution that needs to be addressed soon enough.

Clover and Penny paralleling each other isn't a first (@luckyharbinger's Staff Theory expands on it, I recommend reading it) so everything here has been built on top of that.

But where does this leave us?

In my personal opinion, it's setting up Ambrosius to have him do what Pietro himself has done in his own way: creating life. Not really from scratch, but with the right accomodations.

Pietro and Fria are Penny's Geppetto and her blue fairy, respectively; Ambrosius is Clover's Geppetto AND his blue fairy.

V7ch13 prediction

Ok before ch13 airs tomorrow I just wanna throw this prediction out there. So in the last couple of episodes we've seen two members of Ruby's family cry, first Ruby herself after Salem confirms that she killed summer, then the next episode when Clover dies Qrow is the one crying. Ok so it's highly unlikely for Taiyang and Raven to appear next episode and summer is not alive as far as we know, which leaves one person left in the family....Yang. And since there's been the theory that like when Weiss was impaled in vol5, the slashed B means Blake will get hurt and we know Yang is going to scream from what Barb had said, which worries me the fuck out. I don't think Blake is going to lose a limb, but we do know here aura is running low from last episode and the bees are going to probably meet up with team JNPR which leads to Neo and I'm worried she is going to hurt Blake so bad that it makes Yang cry (and scream). I'm so not ready for the volume finale

RWBY Remarks: Some Predictions for V7CH13

Since Maria and Pietro showed up in the nick of time to find RWBY at the end of CH12, I'm assuming that communications will be restored to the team with their help. Perhaps... this might also be the moment where Pietro also reveals the ‘additional upgrades’ the team’s weapons that was teased in the third episode (unless that’s saved for V8, granted that Pietro will even survive).

Speaking of, Penny will be probably be severely damaged during her and Winter’s fight with Cinder; leading to Pietro Polendina sacrificing the last of his aura to bring her back to life one final time (as foreshadowed in V7CH7).

Weiss will probably go off on her own to help Winter stop Cinder from retrieving the Winter Maiden power. However even the combined efforts of the Schnee Sisters working together will be proven futile as Cinder will be successful in claiming Fria’s power (I highly doubt the showrunners are going to make Cinder fail a third time otherwise that’d be predictable and downright pathetic at this point).

Yang and Blake will probably help JNR with their fight against Neo. It was mentioned in this episode that they were going to find “the others” meaning JNPR 2.0.

Since Ruby mentioned stopping Ironwood, I’m assuming she’s going to go off to the Vault to stop him. Unfortunately, Ruby doesn’t know the location of the Vault within Atlas Academy. However there is one person on her team who does: Oscar. Ironwood showed Oscar the location of the vault in CH7. So I’m assuming that Oscar and Ruby will be the two to go off alone to stop Ironwood.

I betting that with Pietro’s help, communications will be restored within the hero team. Ruby will probably try and get in contact with Jaune again only for him to inform her of Neo. Ruby will also inform Jaune of Ironwood’s plans to raise Atlas into space. It is here where Oscar might interject and let Ruby know that he knows where the Vault is. Oscar and Ruby will probably make plans to meet up somewhere to go down to the Vault together. So while Oscar goes off to catch up with Ruby, JNR will stay behind to fend off Neo from pursuing Oscar for the Relic of Knowledge. Perhaps Bumblebee might even show up to lend JNR a hand with their clash with Neo since Yang and Neo’s got some unfinished business that they have to settle too.

Overall, I’m banking on the Rosegardening Rosebuds to be the two to go confront Ironwood. Perhaps a fight will break out pinning Ironwood against Ruby and Oscar. And who knows? Perhaps during this fight, Oscar might reveal his semblance when Ironwood threatens to harm Ruby.

Or…perhaps…it won’t be Ironwood that Ruby and Oscar find down in the Vault. Perhaps the two might arrive in time to find Ironwood out of commission since Cinder, now empowered with the magic of both the Fall and Winter Maidens is going after the Relic of Creation.

Perhaps this will lead to the Rosebuds fighting Cinder Fall which will ultimately lead to either a) Oscar unlocking his semblance to protect/save Ruby or b) Oscar using the Long Memory and channelling Ozpin’s power to fight Cinder or c) Ruby using her Silver Eyes on Cinder Fall at full blast just like at Beacon when she threatens to take Oscar’s life just like Oz or d) all of the above.

Overall, I hope V7CH13 is long since there is a lot that this episode has to conclude. I hope it’s not like V6 where the finale episode was only 15-18 mins long. Nah! I hope they saved the best for last and that CH13 is at least 26 or 28 mins long!

Hopefully. But we’ll see.

I doubt it’s an intended callback, but every single time I’ve watched the v7 finale there’s one specific line that always makes me think back to when a totally unrelated character used the same words in a somewhat similar tone but with the completely opposite meaning

Oscar flinching when Jaune punches the wall and flinching again when Jaune says “Everything we did was for NOTHING!”  Oscar flinching away when Jaune walks past him up the stairs. Oscar flinching when Ren says “Now Salem has the lamp, Ironwood has the staff, and we have NOTHING!” The way Oscar puts his hands up in front of him whenever someone tries to give him a hug (with only one exception).

“I suppose we all find out, sooner or later” is such a great ending to Ozpin’s v7 monologue to demonstrate Oscar’s influence on him. Like, yes, the whole speech is Ozpin echoing Oscar’s philosophies throughout v7 and showcasing how his worldview has shifted, but this line perfectly sums up a big part of what’s changed: he’s willing to acknowledge without qualifying. 

He now recognizes fear as a universal inevitability, not to be run from nor capable of being eliminated, but something to examine intimately. Knowing you may not be proud of the person you see, that your reflection might be the thing to scare you most of all, and choosing to see it anyway. It’s there, whether or not you look.

Ozpin’s rhetoric has always been very “Perhaps [”bad” thing] is less than ideal, but we must remember that it could be much worse. Ultimately, I still believe [”good” thing] will prevail over [”bad” thing] in the end.” 

Meanwhile, Oscar’s rhetoric is more “[”Bad” thing] is a fact of life, and it’s happening right now. If we want any chance at a positive outcome, we have to embrace [”bad thing”] before we can change it. Or else we’ll become it.”

But here Oz is just saying yeah, everyone’s going to have their fears come true someday, and it’ll reveal parts of ourselves we don’t want to see. He doesn’t conclude the speech with a lesson, like “Perhaps the day will come when we are faced with our darkest fears, but for now, we are safe, and that’s worth celebrating while we can.” He presents it as it is. There’s no ‘if.’ It’s just something that happens. And that’s the end of the monologue. “I guess it’ll happen to everyone.”
