how is the uyghur genocide just propaganda? i am asking in good faith, i have never heard that perspective but there appears to be lots of evidence of their internment and abuse
"a lot of evidence" from the christofaschist victims of communism foundation member called adrian zenz who doesn't speak any of chinese languages? because that's the dude who started it all. also we are witnessing the real genocide right now with thousands of palestinian refuges and footage. if 'uyghur genocide' was actually happening (they claimed what? 2 millions in the camps?) then there would be a similar picture. but nothing, lol. people freely visited xinjiang and it was chill here, none of the uyghurs here agreed they were 'genocided' apparently when asked (can you imagine the same with palestinians or any other actively persecuted group). xinjiang is a prospering economically region and it's population count is stably rising up. but that's exactly what imperialists hate so they demonized china's anti terrorist efforts in the region (CIA funded NED openly admitted sponsoring one of those terrorist groups called ETIM btw) which included mandatory centres for vulnerable to indoctrination, mostly jobless people. they were given classes of awareness against terrorism, mandarin classes, profession qualifications classes. but western propaganda lies turned those into some concentration camps so they could sanction china and sabotage xinjiang economy. you should examine your willingness to buy into sinophobic lies it's fucking 2024.

I have not yet seen any posts about this so: The USA congress recently passed a bill legally requiring anti-communist propaganda in school. Please do read the full text, and don’t let them put this into effect quietly. some especially revealing excerpts from the text:
(2) To ensure that high school students in the United States— (A) learn that communism has led to the deaths of over 100,000,000 victims worldwide; (B) understand the dangers of communism and similar political ideologies; and (C) understand that 1,500,000,000 people still suffer under communism.
Only the most accurate historical data!
The independent entity created under section 905(b)(1)(B) of the FRIENDSHIP Act (40 U.S.C. 8903note; 107 Stat. 2331 note), also known as the “Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation”, shall—
From only the most reliable sources!
(1) develop a civic education curriculum for high school students that— (A) includes a comparative discussion of certain political ideologies, including communism and totalitarianism, that conflict with the principles of freedom and democracy that are essential to the founding of the United States;
Freedom and democracy! (for the land-owning white colonizer men.)
(B) is updated periodically to ensure the curriculum includes both past and present communist and totalitarian regimes, with a focus on— (i) ongoing human rights abuses by such regimes, such as the treatment of Uyghurs in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) by the People’s Republic of China; and (ii) aggression by such regimes against democratic nations and democracy, such as actions taken by the People’s Republic of China to deter pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong and the increasingly aggressive posture by the People’s Republic of China toward Taiwan, a democratic friend of the United States.
Aaaaaaaand to the surprise of no one this is just a tool to further the red scare 3 (+cold war 2) agenda and manufacture consent for war with China.

[ Mamenchisaurus sinocanadorum and its ecosystem, illustrated by Júlia d'Oliveira. ]
“The longest-necked dinosaur on record was a Jurassic beast with a 49.5-foot-long (15.1 meters) neck, a new study finds.
That's more than six times the length of a giraffe's neck and about 10 feet (3 m) longer than the length of a school bus. This long-necked sauropod, known as Mamenchisaurus sinocanadorum, lived about 162 million years ago during the Jurassic period in what is now the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of northwestern China, according to the study, published Wednesday (March 15) in the Journal of Systematic Palaeontology.
"The long neck of Mamenchisaurus sinocanadorum, like those of other sauropods, would have made the animal an efficient forager, able to graze on the huge volumes of browse necessary to fuel such a huge body before moving to the next vegetation-rich spot," study first author Andrew Moore (opens in new tab), a paleontologist at Stony Brook University in New York, told Live Science in an email.
Researchers discovered M. sinocanadorum's fossils in 1987, but they didn't find much — only a jaw bone and some neck vertebrae and neck ribs. However, these were enough to tell paleontologists a lot about the long-dead dino. "All sauropods had long necks, but mamenchisaurids were standouts, with some of the most extreme neck proportions of anything in the history of terrestrial life," Moore said.”

[Image above: Kumārajīva (344–413) was a Buddhist monk, scholar, missionary and translator from the Kingdom of Kucha (present-day, Aksu County, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China). The following is presumed to be one of the anecdotes referred by him.]
Buddha to his disciples, mini-series (16)
500 pieces of firewood - Never too late
An old man who had become an alcoholic came to see the Buddha in regretting what he did. He feared the consequences of the crimes he had committed. To the old man, the Buddha taught:
“Suppose we take down to the ground 500 carloads of firewood pulled by white elephants, how many carloads of fire would it take to burn all of this?” the Buddha asked.
“How many cars' worth of fire? No, just a little bit, a pea-sized fire is enough,” the oldman replied.
"Yes, that's right. Even if your accumulated sins are equivalent to 500 carloads, they will disappear if you confess," replied the Buddha.
Avadana 40
Note: Avadāna is one of the twelve-part sutra, a classification of Buddhist scriptures, which relates the good deeds of past lives to the events of their later lives. It mainly refers to the stories of the present and past (previous) lives of the Buddha's disciples, which explain the truth of good causes and effects and bad causes and effects. Avadāna is basically literature developed in tribal Buddhism, which flourished in the post-A.D. centuries from northern to north-western India.
However, there is some confusion with Jātaka (Ref), as many of the stories are on previous lives of Buddha, although they are called Avadāna. As the cult developed over time, it became mixed with neighbouring dialects and Sanskrit, and it is thought that a mixed Buddhist Sanskrit was formed that escaped regionalism. Therefore, the details and background of these Buddhist texts have not been clarified.

Beautiful Non-National Flags, Part 1
So many people see and love the flags of the 193 UN recognized nations, but I want to take a look at a few of my favorite regional/provincial/people group flags around the world.
One of my favorite flags, and I think one of the most beautiful flags, is the banner of East Turkestan
Tumblr media
The Kökbayraq, or sky flag, represents both the geographic region of East Turkestan, and the Uyghur people, a Turkic people group located in what is now Xinjiang Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China (PRC). The flag was flown by the short lived (one year) reign of the Republic of East Turkestan (1933-34), and has been used by the diaspora of the Uyghur people as they flee the authoritarian rule of the PRC. In the modern day, it serves as symbol of protest against the ongoing genocide being conducted by the Chinese Communist Property.
The beautiful simplicity of the flag and its striking blue color make the flag instantly eye-catching. It's similarity to the Turkish flag is no coincidence, it was designed to harken back to the Turkish flag. The beautiful sky blue represents all Turkic people. While the crescent and star can represent Islam, in this flag the crescent represents the idea of being victorious, and the star represents the nation itself.
The flag follows a 2:3 ratio and all of the design aspects follow the same guidelines as the flag of Türkiye. It was formalized and adopted in 1993 and the East Turkestan Government in Exile claims it at the official flag of the Republic of East Turkestan
As this is a flag I personally own, I'm more than happy to fly it when I can and speak about it. This flag is easily in my Top Ten list because of it's beauty, and I've used the the exact shade of blue in a couple of flag designs.
I highly recommend anyone interested research the culture and history of the Uyghur people, and learn about their plight as they're subjugated under the iron fist of the Chinese Communist Party.

Listen I'm not even voting for Jill stein but that tweet shared about her and the Uyghurs is inaccurate. She said that she knows that China is committing human rights abuses but she is unsure if she can call it a genocide, which is exactly what the UN said about it as well. She didn't deny anything. Pay attention to what politicians actually say instead of misinformation spread by tweets
First of all: I'm going to acknowledge that you came back in a separate message and apologized for the tone of this ask. Thank you! I am still going to address this conversation though.
Second of all: For those who are just joining us, this is the tweet in question, and this is my response to the tweet in the tags of the post:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright, now, this is going to be long, but please ride the wave with me.
Jill Stein has based her entire campaign on being the antithesis to the Democratic and Republican parties by claiming she is "anti-genocide." She makes this claim specifically within the context of Israel's feud with Palestine. Similar to the accusations lobbied against China, the conflict between Israel/Palestine has yet to be declared a genocide by the United Nations and the International Court of Justice (ICJ). In 2023, South Africa invoked the Genocide Conventions, but when Israel stood trial before the International Court of Justice, the ICJ determined that, while it was possible that Israel was in violation of the Genocide Conventions, their duty was to ensure that preventative measures were taken so the rights of the Palestinian people weren't violated any further:
[Source truncated and simplified for clarity]
Since South Africa has invoked the compromissory clause of the Genocide Convention, the Court must determine, at the present stage of the proceedings, whether it appears that the acts and omissions complained of by the Applicant (South Africa) are capable of falling within the scope of that convention ratione materiae. (20) Currently, the Court is not required to determine whether any violations of Israel’s obligations under the Genocide Convention have occurred. Such a finding could be made by the Court only at the stage of examining the merits of the present case. But as already noted, at the stage of making an order on a request for the indication of provisional measures, the Court’s task is to establish whether the acts and omissions complained of by the Applicant (South Africa) appear to be capable of falling within the provisions of the Genocide Convention. In the Court’s view, at least some of the acts and omissions alleged by South Africa to have been committed by Israel in Gaza appear to be capable of falling within the provisions of the Convention. (30)
Source: APPLICATION OF THE CONVENTION ON THE PREVENTION AND PUNISHMENT OF THE CRIME OF GENOCIDE IN THE GAZA STRIP (SOUTH AFRICA v. ISRAEL)
Despite this ruling, Israel continues to be accused of genocide. Similarly, despite the United Nation's ruling that China was committing Crimes against Humanity [The Guardian; The OHCHR Assessment of Human Rights Concerns in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, People’s Republic of China] against the Uyghur population, China also continues to be accused of genocide by several countries around the world. The United States is one such country which maintains that accusation. So while it's very well and good that Jill Stein is acknowledging her uncertainty on whether genocide is being committed against the Uyghurs or not, why is she not acknowledging the same uncertainty regarding the conflict unfolding in Israel/Palestine when the circumstances are exactly the same?
There are two answers to this question.
The first is that, similar to Donald Trump's campaign, Jill Stein's campaign has been built upon generating or exploiting an already-present distrust in the United States government and International governmental proceedings. Unfortunately, it's very easy to exploit that distrust because the United States government has made several missteps, often with egregious, deadly consequences, and continues to do so, even against her own people. Distrust helps both Trump and Stein because it allows them to position themselves as saviors to the nation's, and the world's, problems. Jill Stein takes advantage of American dissatisfaction with and reluctance to trust the government by casting doubt upon the ICJ's ruling re: Israel/Palestine. She does this by maintaining her stance that the unfolding conflict is, without shadow of a doubt, a genocide. But this tactic works because people, on average, don't know what genocide is.
Ask anyone on the street and they will most likely tell you that genocide is a mass slaughter of a population. But that's only one aspect of genocide. In truth, genocide is determined by certain criteria. Genocide must be legally defined because, during the course of war, civilians are often slaughtered en masse at disproportionate rates by the stronger, or more equipped, party. Having ways to identify genocide definitively, therefore, helps world leaders differentiate between mass casualties and genocidal intent. But there are other non-genocide crimes too: War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity.
Jill Stein is happy to acknowledge Crimes Against Humanity unfolding in China, but she won't admit to genocide because to do so would mean having to acknowledge and dissect the complexity of legally defined genocide. To do that would mean having to entertain the idea that the conflict unfolding in Palestine might not be Genocide but might, instead, be Crimes Against Humanity. (Which, to be clear, is still a very severe and appalling human rights violation). But to acknowledge that the conflict unfolding overseas might not be genocide would mean deconstructing the platform upon which her entire campaign is built, and she won't do that.
So all that leads us to the second answer, that answer being that Jill Stein is reluctant to acknowledge genocide against the Uyghurs—despite the fact that the United States, the same country she is trying to lead, maintains that accusation—because it doesn't suit her agenda. She co-opted the pro-Palestinian movement by preying on American ignorance for the sake of launching her campaign and used the same language the American Left uses because she knows how broadly people define genocide and—due to the fact that this conflict is such a red-button topic in the United States—knew what the progressive American Left would respond to.
Jill Stein is a con-artist whose entire gambit works because she knows how to manipulate a genuinely-held desire for world peace and therefore decided to adopt the fight for Palestinian self-determination for her own gain. Both of these things would be bad enough on their own, but let's sit with the horror of this for a minute: she built her campaign—a campaign we all know she cannot and will not win, on account of the fact that the US is, for all intents and purposes, a bipartisanship—on the backs of an already vulnerable and dehumanized population, reducing them to props, for her own gain. Her insistence on running continues to divide the vote in one of the most history-defining elections we've witnessed in American, and global, history—an election that will have tragic and drastic ramifications for the entire globe, including the people of Palestine, if Trump is re-elected.
This is what I mean when I said she played people.
So, circling back to the tweet, Jill Stein's admittance to "listening to her running mate, a Muslim with different sources" and being "open to learning more about what's going on" means nothing. It's a non-answer and a non-position with just enough progressive rhetoric to appeal to her staunch supporters. So while the tweet itself is, indeed, a misrepresentation of her words, the secondary tweet by Celia is not wrong—Jill Stein is not a woman against genocide, because she doesn't even care enough to define it.
Hope this helps, thanks for stopping by!

Bronze Age ice skates with bone blades discovered in China
Tumblr media
Archaeologists in China have unearthed 3,500-year-old ice skates crafted from animal bone in the  country's western Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, a mountainous area that some archaeologists think was the birthplace of skiing.
These ice skates, the oldest ever found in China,  were made from the bones of oxen and horses, according to a translated statement. They were found in a tomb in the Gaotai Ruins, about 240 miles (385 kilometers) west of the regional capital Ürümqi, archaeologists with the Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous regional government said at a news event on Feb. 27.
It's not known if the skates were used for hunting or for regular travel. They consist of a straight piece of bone with holes at both ends so they could be strapped to footwear. The resulting "blade" is very flat compared with modern skates, but it formed a cutting edge that allowed the wearer to glide across the ice. Read more.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KLTV/KTRE) - Congressman Nathaniel Moran (TX-01), member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, celebrated the passage of his legislation, H.R. 4039, No Dollars to Uyghur Forced Labor Act, which prohibits funds to the Department of State or the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to finance international projects in partnership with entities that import products mined, produced, or manufactured in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China, commonly known for the genocide and forced labor of the Uyghur people.
On June 21, 2023, H.R. 4039 was marked up in the House Foreign Affairs Committee and was reported favorably out of the committee. This week, the No Dollars to Uyghur Forced Labor Actpassed the House of Representatives by a voice vote.
“The passage of No Dollars to Uyghur Forced Labor Act is an important step in showing the U.S. government’s commitment to confronting the abuses of the Chinese Communist Party. As a Chinese dissidents and human rights activist, I’ve experienced first-hand the extent that the Chinese government is willing to go to maintain power. After years of evidence and brave survivors speaking out, the world can no longer ignore the Uyghur genocide. It is imperative for our consciences to remove all U.S. funding from the Uyghur region. I am grateful for Representative Moran’s leadership on this resolution and the cosponsors who endorsed it,” said Dr. Rev. Bob Fu, Founder and President of ChinaAid.
“Uyghurs worldwide are thankful to Representative Moran and the U.S. Congress for passing a bill which ensures that our tax dollars do not fund ongoing atrocity crimes and modern-day slavery. This bill also sends a powerful message globally that the United States will continue to exercise all options to ensure that we end complicity in forced labor,” said Omer Kanat, Executive Director of the Uyghur Human Rights Project.
Background:
The Chinese Communist Party is committing genocide against the Uyghurs in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) of China, repressing ethnic minorities for practicing their faith, detaining people in “reeducation centers” and ultimately using them for forced labor in the XUAR. This region of China is essential to their global supply chain, where many basic goods such as yarn, textiles, bricks, cotton, polysilicon, are produced using forced labor.
While the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act prohibited goods made wholly or partly in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region from entering U.S. supply chains, we must ensure that the United States is not developing international contracts for strategic projects with partners overseas that source goods or raw materials from the Xinjiang region.
H.R. 4039 will prohibit funds to the Department of State or the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to finance global projects in partnership with companies or organizations that import products mined, produced, or manufactured wholly or partly from the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China.

what do you mean "uyghur genocide narrative isn't backed up by reliable sources"? there's a wikipedia article full of sources? is every single one of them unreliable?
Wikipedia (at least the English one, I don't know about any of the others) places undue value and importance on Western media sources. It is very easy for someone to compile a list of sources that only cites Western media and then present this as a totally unbiased and balanced narrative when constructing a Wikipedia article.
Here is an actually balanced list of sources for investigating the situation in Xinjiang in more depth:

Our hearts continue to break for everyone around the world experiencing violence, traumatic aftermaths of violence, or, as is the case for so many — for Jewish, Arab and Muslim people everywhere; for the people of Israel, of Palestine and surrounding regions, of Ukraine and Russia, of the Nagorno-Karabakh region, and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and others — living in violence and its aftermaths at the same time.
Our direct services are intended to provide free and caring support for young people and those who care about them. In times of increased crisis we also widen our service net within our capacity. Our free support services are open to those impacted, in any way, by these ongoing and recent conflicts, and need not be focused on or about sex or relationships.
Unlike social media, our services are thoughtfully, actively moderated. They are intended to provide listening, care, information and other help. They are not intended for debate or argument. We are an international service: there is not one nation we, as an organization or community, pledge allegiance to or consider our home above others. We know and understand that there is tremendous diversity across nations and the people who inhabit them and experience living in them. No one nation or no one from any one nation is our ally or enemy. We’re here for people, not nations or governments. We also know that in times of crisis, people are still living their lives, which often includes their sexual and interpersonal lives, and that it can feel extra uncomfortable to ask about things like sex, love relationships, or sexual or reproductive health concerns during these times. All of these are just as relevant and important as at any other time. Managing those things often gets even harder or more complicated in crisis or trauma. We’re as glad to help you with these issues now as at any other time.
We consider it our privilege to hold space for people. Please feel free to come to and use our direct services — or to refer young people in your life to them — as you need and for what you, uniquely need, during these times.
