i've always believed that voting does not matter on a national level like this shit is rigged, the only way for things to change is to just kill all of these people

Here is a random fun fact about my father. He has always been very quick to make Nazi comparisons*. (Specific bees in his bonnet that I can remember include the TSA and any sort of environmental regulation, among other such things.) One time, when I found one of these comparisons particularly egregious, I brought up Godwin's Law ("As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1."). My dad responded by informing me that he was actually in usenet groups with Mike Godwin back in the day and did not get along with him. Given that information, as well as his fondness for hyperbolic Nazi comparisons, I figure there is a non-zero chance that my father was part of the inspiration for Godwin's Law.
*despite his fondness for such comparisons, when I told him in 2015 that I thought he was being very blasé about the rise of American fascism he laughed like I was making a joke, so.

Hi there. I mean this in the kindest and most good faith way possible, but please don't reblog posts about American politics that are critical of Democrats without checking to see if the specific criticism is warranted, or if the statement is even true. There is almost always a better explanation to be found with just a glance at the notes. For instance, on that Moderna post: if Bernie Sanders were president, he would not be making that announcement or be responsible for the outcome — his involvement is directly tied to his specific position in the Senate. Democrats are not perfect and neither is President Biden and it is the responsibility of Americans to hold them to the standard we want, but 99% of posts like that on social media are designed to spark unwarranted outrage among more progressive voters so that they don't vote at all — which is what conservatives want, and exactly how we got Trump in the first place. I realize you are not American and may not be fully aware of stuff like this, but it's really, REALLY important not to spread any kind of misinformation in the current political climate.
I was so focused on the victory over Moderna that I didnt pay attention to the underhanded comment below. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. You're right - gotta be careful when reblogging posts on other countries' politics.

Trump voters on tiktok are EXTREMELY mad about the following:
They just found out what tariffs are
They just found out what denaturalization is
They (particularly black and Hispanic trump voters) just found out that other trump voters are racist
Leftists and liberals don't want to be their friends (they are furious about this)
Leftists keep telling them they hope they get what they voted for (they are really mad about this too)

i would like to think that the despair many people in this country are feeling right now will make them more sympathetic to the people worldwide who have already been suffering greatly because of u.s. imperialism, but i fear it's actually just going to make them even more xenophobic

If it makes any of you feel better, Donald Trump will have an uphill battle to change the constitution. He will need:
-2/3 of Senators (67)
-2/3 of the House of Representatives (290)
-3/4 of the states (38)
In 2026, 33 senate seats will be up for grabs, and we’ll be able to vote for people who are against Trump and his ideals.
Breathe and remain hopeful because it’s not over. We can still fight and make Trump’s last four years hell.
