The Black Parade is the third studio album by American rock band My Chemical Romance. Released in Europe on October 23, 2006, and the United States on October 24, 2006,[1] through Reprise Records, it was produced by the band with Rob Cavallo, known for having produced multiple albums for the Goo Goo Dolls and Green Day. It is a rock opera and concept album centered on a dying man with cancer known as "The Patient". The album tells the story of his apparent death, experiences in the afterlife, and subsequent reflections on his life. It is the band's only studio album to feature Bob Bryar on drums before his departure in 2010.
The Black Parade received generally favorable reviews from critics, and the band achieved its first number one single in the United Kingdom with "Welcome to the Black Parade". The album debuted at number two on both the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart and is also certified as triple-platinum in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the United Kingdom by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), as well as with gold certifications in both Argentina by the Argentine Chamber of Phonograms and Videograms Producers (CAPIF) and Chile by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry Chile. The Black Parade was given the Platinum Europe Award by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry for one million sales in Europe. The limited edition boxed set also earned My Chemical Romance a nomination at the 2008 Grammy Awards. Four singles were released from the album: "Welcome to the Black Parade", "Famous Last Words", "I Don't Love You", and "Teenagers".
My Chemical Romance began The Black Parade World Tour on February 22, 2007, in the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire. The tour featured 138 performances worldwide, as well as several festival and condensed shows. The tour was the longest and most internationally comprehensive headlining tour the band played, featuring three legs in North America, two legs in Europe, and one in Asia, Australia, and Latin America.
The song "Dead!" appears in the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II, and the three songs "Teenagers," "Famous Last Words" and "This Is How I Disappear" were once available as downloadable content. The Black Parade has sold three million copies in the United States as of 2016, and four million worldwide. The record was reissued as The Black Parade/Living with Ghosts on September 23, 2016, in celebration of the tenth anniversary of the album's release. In 2020, Rolling Stone ranked the album number 361 in their updated "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list.[2]
Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge (often shortened to Three Cheers or Revenge)[1] is the second studio album by American rock band My Chemical Romance, released on June 8, 2004 by Reprise Records.[2][3] With this album, the band produced a cleaner sound than that of their 2002 debut I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love.[4] It was the band's first release to feature rhythm guitarist Frank Iero on all tracks, as well as the final release to feature drummer Matt Pelissier, who would later be replaced by Bob Bryar.[5]
The album was a success for both the band and the label.[6] The record produced four singles—"I'm Not Okay (I Promise)", "Helena", "The Ghost of You", and in the United Kingdom, "Thank You for the Venom".[4] It was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) less than a year after its release,[3] and has sold over three million copies in the United States.[6]
Musically, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge has been described as emo,[7][8] alternative rock,[8] pop punk,[9] post-hardcore,[10] punk rock,[11] and pop rock.[12] While I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love was considered "a particularly strident entry in that shifty genre of bands tortuously slamming together elements of emo, hardcore, and even metal",[13] Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge "both showcased their songwriting skills and gave them much-deserved attention".[4] Moving away from the "screamo parts"[14] and "the more complicated structures"[15] of their first record in favor of a sound that "skirts the line between pop punk and edgy, theatrical, emo"[4] while being "strongly influenced by hardcore punk",[15] Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge has been variously compared to The Misfits,[16] AFI,[13] and Thursday.[13]
Lead singer Gerard Way has referred to the first single "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" as a "self help pop song"[17] while also being called "a surging piece of emo-pop with a hook as ridiculously catchy as it was ridiculous"[18] and a "moving anthem for the young and depressed"[19] by AllMusic and Rolling Stone respectively. This single went on to be nominated for the Kerrang! award for best single[20] and reached number 86 on the US Billboard Hot 100.[21]
The album opener "Helena" has been referred to as an "album highlight and smash hit". Gerard has claimed that the song "shaped what the album is about" and "revealed their dark side" in comparison to the first single.[17] Its lyrics mourn the loss of Gerard and Mikey's grandmother,[17] Elena Lee Rush, and was their first entry into the top 40.[21]

Favorite Over All the Decades - Week 13, Oct 3 2023
The list of contenders for this poll will update as the results roll in.
1930s - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
1940s - Fantasia (1940)
1950s - Alice in Wonderland (1951)
1960s - One Hundred and one Dalmatians (1961)
1970s - The Aristocats (1970)
1980s - The Great Mouse Detective (1986)
1990s - Mulan (1998)
2000s - The Emperor’s New Groove (2000)
2010s - Tangled (2010)
2020-2022 - Encanto (2021)
Overall Winner: Mulan (1998)
The NEW 2020s poll, with the winners from 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 as the contenders, will start January 1, 2024.
If the overall 2020s movie winner changes, I will then hold a new decades poll on January 8, 2024.
The 2020s poll from 2024 and onward (lol) will just have the top movie from each year go against the new ones. If we run out of slots available for all the new movies with the previous winners, I will hold a poll with just the new movies, get a winner, and then run it against the old year winners of the 2020s.
If I remember to run this tournament into the 2030s, I will do an Over the Centuries poll comparing the favorite of one century of Disney animation to another :).
My main blog is @deathsmallcaps and my art blog is @patheticbatman if curiosity strikes you.
I’m pretty sure there is another poll going on like this, I’m just running this one for my own amusement, and because I like to think about these in terms of decades.

🐛 Finny’s VERY long list of their interests, fun facts, and favorite things! 🐛
(To be updated on Desktop, because mobile formatting got a little messed up.)
Key:
🖍 Interests from my childhood
‼️ HUGE interests of mine!
(Add a post cut here)
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Interests (in no particular order)!:
1.) Laundromats 🖍

10.) Schools / “Schoolcore”
11.) Hospitals, specifically Childrens Hospitals. (I went to a children’s hospital very often when I was younger, and I began associating it with comfort and “getting better!”) 🖍
12.) Learning other languages and learning about other cultures (and what life is like around the world!) 🖍
13.) What life was like in the past.
14.) 2000s-Early 2010 aesthetic.

25.) Retro Arcades ‼️🖍
…and more that I am probably forgetting! I will update the list as more things come to mind!
Fun Facts:
🐛 I don’t mind what pronouns are used for me! I like the sense of anonymity that comes with the option of someone using any pronouns for me gives me.
🐛 Finny is just an online nickname I like, not one I use in real life!
🐛 My favorite colors are currently orange and yellow, but I like most colors!
🐛 I write all the time! I have a huge storage box full of completed journals— and I have been writing consistently since I was in 2nd grade! That’s over a decade of writing!
🐛 I like to edit photos and videos! I hope that I can get better at both someday!
🐛 I have a binder that I use as my own personal “scrapbook” and personal care guide. I am super proud of it— and I plan on having a tour of it with you all, soon!
🐛 I can play the drums, clarinet, and I am learning the piano! I want to get back into playing the recorder, because that was the first instrument I’ve ever played! This time, I’d like to use a higher quality recorder.
🐛 Puzzle games, rhythm games, racing games, arcade games, and fighting games are my favorite! My favorites in each category are currently: Tetris (any version), Project Mirai DX (or any version of a Hatsune Miku/Vocaloid rhythm game), Mario Kart 8, most retro arcade games AND pinball machines, and Tekken!
🐛 I’ve been using tumblr since 2012, but my original account is lost.

🐛 My Favorite Song is currently: 🎶Break by Kero Kero Bonito🎶
🐛 My favorite TV show is currently Bluey!
🐛 My favorite movie is currently most Pixar movies! Monsters Inc has a special place in my heart.
🐛 My favorite art material to use: Colored Pencils
🐛 My favorite snack is freeze dried apple slices!
🐛 My favorite drink is Snapple Apple juice, or warm tea with lemon!
🐛 If I were an animal, I would pick a penguin or a house cat. If I were a cat, I would want to be a fluffy orange cat!
More details may be added soon!
Last Updated: April 11th, 2023.
❓Why make this list?❓:
Sometimes when you’re upset, you can easily forget what things make you happy. Making “about me” lists gives me the opportunity to revisit what I know I like— and it gives you all the opportunity to get to know me better!

The Complete Authority Reading Guide
Born from the late 90s and early 00s trend towards darker superhero stories, The Authority debuted in 1999 with The Authority #1 by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch for WildStorm. The Authority fights for what they see as best for the world regardless of the cost. The Authority was one of DC’s best-selling books under Mark Millar and Frank Quitely. The team appeared in their series, as well as other WildStorm and DC titles. Their last appearance came months before the launch of DC’s The New 52. Since the N52, most Authority characters have been retconned or forgotten. Only the team’s breakout star Midnighter (and sometimes Apollo) remains active in comics.
This is a comprehensive guide to every appearance of The Authority's main characters: Jenny Sparks, Jack Hawksmoor, the Engineer (Angela Spica), the Doctor (Jeroen Thornedike, later Habib bin Hassan), Swift (Shen Li-Men), Apollo, the Midnighter, and Jenny Quantum.
Issues marked with an asterisk (*) don't feature Authority characters but do provide context.
Issues marked with New Button emoji (🆕) are newly added as of the most recent update. The emoji will be removed when the guide is updated again.
StormWatch
WildStorm was an independent studio established by Jim Lee in 1992. It was bought by DC Comics in 1998 and ran as an imprint until being shut down in 2010. Before The Authority debuted, there was StormWatch. StormWatch (1993) and StormWatch (1997) are the first appearances of most of the Authority’s original lineup.

The New 52 and Beyond
In addition to rebooting the mainline DC Universe, the New 52 "streamlined" DC's multiple continuities by combining everything into one timeline. The result of this for the Authority was Stormwatch (2011). Swift, the Doctor, and Jenny Quantum are absent from this point forward.

Super Rugby 2023 : Highlanders to play the Crusaders in Melbourne, AAMI Park
The weekend’s action on will begin with the Crusaders taking on the Highlanders while the Super Rugby Melbourne, the weekend’s hosts, take on the Hurricanes.
The Crusaders and Highlanders share a particular and unique rivalry as the only two South Island-based clubs in Super Rugby Pacific, making their games some of the most eagerly anticipated and fierce in the league.
The Crusaders and Highlanders have played each other more than 40 times dating back to the first Super Rugby season in 1996, with each side collecting its fair share of triumphs and memorable moments along the road.

On Friday, March 3, at 8 p.m. NZT, the Crusaders play the Highlanders in the first match of the Melbourne Super Round.
In the first game of the Melbourne Super Round on Friday night, the two fierce rivals will square off for the first time ever on neutral ground. Last weekend saw the exhilarating return of Super Rugby Pacific, with a first round filled with sensational tries and running rugby.
As the Hurricanes arrive for their first matchup against a New Zealand team in the 2023 Super Rugby Pacific, all eyes will be on the hosts.
DHL Super Rugby Double header
This week’s Super Round will see all teams congregate at AAMI Park in Melbourne for a rugby festival.
Three doubleheaders will be played over the course of the weekend, with Western Force taking on the Reds on Sunday, March 5, and Crusaders playing the Highlanders on Friday, March 3.
AAMI Park With Melbourne Rectangular Stadium
The first purpose-built rectangular stadium in the city, AAMI Park, also known as Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, was completed in 2010 and has a capacity of about 30,000.
The Melbourne Rebels in rugby union, Melbourne Storm in rugby league, and A-League teams Melbourne Victory FC and Melbourne City FC are just a few of the teams who often play at the venue.
The Victorian Government invested $25 million in the stadium earlier this year to update the lighting, video screens, player facilities, and broadcast equipment.
Here are a few notable figures from the long history of their enduring rivalry:
Not including preseason matches, the Crusaders and Highlanders have played 44 Super Rugby matches, with the Crusaders winning 31, the Highlanders 12, and one game ending in a draw.
48 points are typically scored in a game between the two teams. the number of points scored by the Crusaders versus the Highlanders.
the number of victories for the Highlanders over the Crusaders. When the teams last faced off in competition play, only three points separated them. The Crusaders battled valiantly to win 17-14 on April 1 of last year in Christchurch.
A 43-meter drop goal by former Crusaders pivot Mitch Hunt in 2017 to earn his team a thrilling 25-22 victory is considered one of the most memorable moments in the southern rivalry.
In the Halberg Awards, it was named as New Zealand’s favorite sporting moment of 2017. Hunt will wear the number 22 jersey for the Highlanders on Friday in Melbourne.
The Highlanders overcame a 2 point deficit to defeat the Crusaders in the Farmlands Cup preseason game on February 10. 35 to 33 was the final result.
In their last 10 competition games, the Crusaders have defeated the Highlanders nine times. The number of games that Crusaders lock is as follows. Sam Whitelock has participated in the match. In the overall Super Rugby hierarchy of most games played, this places him at position number seven.

Wyatt Crockett, a former Crusaders prop, is in first place with 202 games played. With 176 appearances, Aaron Smith leads the Highlanders’ list (fourth overall). While Smith’s return to the Highlanders is still one week away, Sam Whitelock has been selected to play in Melbourne.
On May 5, 1996, the Crusaders and Highlanders faced off for the first time. In Christchurch, the Highlanders prevailed 29–27 with to two tries from Jeff Wilson. Both teams have zero competition points after one round and will be eager to start scoring in Melbourne.

FAQ: (Long post under the cut)
Who are you? My name’s Emily, I’m in my mid-20′s and I’m a student in Viking and Old Norse studies with modern Norwegian. I live in France but go to uni in the UK (bilingual English-French). I have generalised anxiety disorder, hypermobiity and am hard of hearing, on top of suffering the results of several nasty injuries - a twicefractured neck, a broken hand, dislocated shoulder, dislocated ankle and broken pelvis - all of these injuries were riding related except one of the neck fractures, which was due to a bullying attack in high school where three boys in my class threw me down a flight of stairs. I’m an asexual lesbian, potentially non-binary and occasional gamer - all gaming reblogs/talk goes under the tag “Cast Gaymes” for this reason. I compete in amateur dressage and showjumping currently, but want to branch out with some dabbling in eventing, TREC, extreme trail riding and livestock working.
Tell me about your horses:
Hermes - 2007 bay zangersheide gelding (Quadrillo x Chanson de Kabaret)
This is my main guy, the love of my life and also my problem child. He’s a stunningly talented horse with shit for brains. He’s competed up to 130cm classes with my trainer as well as flouncing around smaller stuff with me, but is banned from dressage shows due to his inability to complete a test without throwing a strop. I’ve owned him since May 2011.

Freyja - 2016 chestnut zangersheide mare (Untouchable 27 x Leader M)
Moose, as she’s sometimes called, is the redheaded demon horse I fell in love with last year (2019). She’s got an enormous personality to match her 17.2hh body and is hopefully going to be my next showjumper, dressage horse and possibly take me eventing too.
Vigo - 1997 black Welsh section D cob gelding (Cathedine Telynor x Ffoslas Caradog Ap Daffyd)
This old man is my darling pony, donkey of the swamps, sir of the wiggles. He has a million nicknames, as you can see. Vigo lives at home year round and rules the roost. I’ve taken him competing in jumping, dressage and TREC as he’s a massively polyvalent little beast. He’s been with me since 2013. Given his age he’s partially retired, but it’s an active retirement as he needs to be worked to keep the weight off him. Recently we’ve been dabbling in western riding, which suits him a lot.

Sana - 2001 grey arab gelding (Pegase EF x Neman)
We took Sana on as a companion for Hermes in 2013 as he and Vigo couldn’t live together at that point. His old owner took him to CEI160 endurance competitions, but he had to retire due to DJD in both knees. These days, he spends his time being a grumpy old man and occasionally farts around bridleless or ponies other horses.

Horsie - 2017 grey anglo-arab gelding (Business x Pastel d’Olympe)
I bought him as a project mid June 2020 with the intention of selling him on eventually due to him needing someone to bring him on in a relaxed manner whilst he continues to grow and mature. He’s got an absolutely wonderful temperament and is generally pleasant to have at home so he’s staying with me for the moment. I plan on casually campaigning him in the ammie YH dressage, showjumping and eventing classes (Hunter too if there are any shows).
What other pets do you have? I have 3 barn cats (Monkey, Oliver and Rocket Launcher), and a purebred Maine Coon (Grimnir). Two family dogs - both Newfoundland’s but one purebred (Bear) and one rescue who was abandoned on us in 2018 (Bruno). 1 Dwarf rabbit (Smak) who was born in 2019. 27 chickens - farmyard X-breeds, a group of ex-production layers (the babbling biddies), purebred Brahmas (Magnus, Vulture, Brunhilde and Valkyrie) and a bunch of chicks from my Brahma cockerels (Balti, The Void™️, Soggy, Pingu, Chocolate, Yeller and Marbles). One peacock called Peanut. 7 elderly and partially feral llamas (Amy, Didier, Delia, Dolly, Esther, Ete and Edward) - Ete is the llama I occasionally show jumping things. Two tanks of tropical fish - one 300L community and a 450L with a now-solitary Oscar called Gilbert.
What are your hobbies? I read/write fanfiction and original fiction, occasionally do art, make stained glass windows/display pieces and participate in Vulture Culture (the collection of bones, fur and wet specimens) - my favourite pieces are my horse skull, coyote pelt and legacy human skull (teaching specimen given to me by my grandfather - he got it in the 60’s in Turkey when he was a teacher). As I mentioned above, I also game; my preferences are for long, open-world RPG’s - Skyrim, Red Dead Redemption 2, Assassins Creed Valhalla and Zelda: Breath of the Wild amongst others.
Who was Rethy? Rethy was my old horse, who unfortunately had to be put to sleep due to sudden posterior paralysis in 2019. He was a 2005 anglo-arab gelding who I’d mainly competed in showjumping. Most notably, he had serious aggression issues due to having been abused in his youth and took a very particular handler to manage. Partly because of his aggression, and partly because of his larger-than-life (if that can even be said for a 17h giraffe of a horse) personality, he took a lot of patience to love but rewarded my efforts greatly. I miss him a lot.

Who was Cool? Cool was a 2009 zangersheide gelding that I part owned with my trainer back in 2015. He and I weren’t a terribly good match (horses don’t come much lazier than him) but he took me up to amateur showjumping. We sold him in 2016 and from what I hear, is now loving life with a far more suitable young rider in Belgium.
Who was Burrito? Burrito was a rescue donkey I briefly owned in 2020. I’ve long loved donkeys and was very excited to bring one into my herd. Unfortunately, he had something terribly wrong with him. On Halloween he suddenly flipped out as I was feeding him and attempted to kill me; he knocked me to the ground, dragged me around by my boot, bit my leg, trampled my head (luckily I was wearing a hat) and savaged my right arm whilst attempting to go for my throat. I spent 4 days in hospital and had to undergo surgery to fix my injuries. Upon returning home I had him put to sleep, I’ve plenty of experience with aggressive animals but I couldn’t risk another attack like what he did and frankly didn’t want to keep him alive after it either.

12/15/22
Again. Rogue day. Power went out. The house is already cold, what are we gonna do without power.
I got mom dresses in another layer. Put sweaters on the dogs. Found the lanterns and batteries. Candles.
Played uno in the near dark until it turned back on.
Think tomorrow's holiday dinner is likely cancelled, due to the weather.
Which makes today an eating day but I haven't yet.
I did pull out one of my old diet journals. The one going back to my joining mpa and my goals are often the same. To try to get lower, this number or that number. Often the same numbers because they mean something to me.
At 238, I started dating the woman that would be my 1st wife and divorce. I am there! Finally, how awesome!
225, was remarked to be the lowest I would have weighed in 13 years-- 10 year ago. I almost hit it once in 2010. Got to 226. For a day.
217 would be my updated 100 pounds lost.
At this weight I started dating the my first long love. It lasted a decade and ended with her cheating on my with a gastric bypass patient, after refusing to support my getting the surgery: 210.
199. Onederland.
185 would be my "original goal" of 100 pounds lost. My highest at that point was 285. Much to my chagrin, I got alot heavier after that (317)- and hit that number like 3 different times!
176. My fighting weight.
Up until this week, I was struggling so hard to get under 243.
I have broken through that barrier. It might have been a mental thing. So tough to get thru but I have stayed under it all week. Not going to lie, that fact doesn't really make me want to eat.
I have a great soup ready. And leftover pork chop & cabbage. I want a bath and to paint my nails. And watch a movie. And I want more heat in this damn house!

new fic page + fandom statistics
continuing on my quest to make my blog generally more accessible and generally better all round, I’ve updated the page where you can find all the fics I’ve written. it has filters so you can sort by pairing, rating, and genre, and is infinitely more readable than my last one!
it’s also allowed me to do some ~fun fandom fic statistics~ which my autistic self loves! I’ve put them below the cut because they’re dull.
Pairings
I’ve written 22 fics about Clarkson, Hammond and May, but for the purposes of these statistics I’m excluding my dribble/drouble/drabble roundup fic because I can’t be bothered including those 12 or so little ficlets. So, of the 21 fics:
Je/R was the first pairing I wrote
it was obviously my favourite for a while, because 10 of the 21 fics are Je/R
7 are J/J
3 are OT3
1 is Ja/R
I find this interesting—I like reading all pairings equally, and in theory like the idea of writing all pairings, but clearly I find myself drawn overwhelmingly to Je/R and J/J. I adore OT3 but find it tricky to write, and I also enjoy Ja/R but it doesn’t come as easily to me as anything with Jeremy in, so that’s why I think I’ve neglected it up until now.
This compares interestingly to the fandom overall, where the most popular pairing differs by platform! I’m just focusing on the main four pairings here (sorry Andy, Stig, and others D:) in order to more easily compare to my own writing.
On dreamwidth (which includes aggregate posts from the old LJ comm):
Ja/R leads with 1,551
J/J comes second with 1,455
OT3 is third with 1,109
Je/R is last! with 1,003
On ao3 under the Top Gear (UK) RPF tag:
J/J is first with 746 fics
Ja/R is second with 540 fics
OT3 is third with 442
Je/R is last again with 396
It’s fascinating to me that clearly the LJ comm was the place for fics, even though ao3 has been around since 2007. Although in saying that I believe it only really started to get popular from 2010 onwards (the first thing I ever posted on there was in 2013, a since-orphaned, really bad James Bond/Raoul Silva fic that I wrote when I was 16 LOL) and I know the comm has been active at least back to 2008.
Lastly, on ao3 under The Grand Tour (TV) RPF tag:
J/J is first with 200 fics
Je/R is second with 146
Ja/R is third with 125
OT3 is last (just!) with 124
Obviously we can’t take these numbers as being set in stone because fics may have multiple pairings and thus multiple tags (and I know most people tag both fandoms on ao3, which doubles up the numbers), but they do give us a good idea. What’s consistent about all three platforms is that J/J is at the top or very near the top (this doesn’t surprise me; anecdotally I always thought it was the most popular pairing) and OT3 is at the bottom or near the bottom. It’s also interesting to me that in recent years Je/R seems to have leapt in popularity, and I wonder why. Were there a bunch of primarily Ja/R writers back in the day who have since left fandom?
Moving on to...
Ratings
When it comes to my fics (and keep in mind I’m using the Australian rating system of G/PG/M/MA/R here) it’s not an exact science and I’m not very good at rating but I’ve done my best:
9 are G/PG (maybe a little smooching)
3 are M (perhaps some over-the-clothes action, or more mature themes)
1 is MA (slightly smutty without being explicit)
7 are R (smut)
I’m surprised at this, because I didn’t realise I’ve written that much smut. Of those rated R fics, though, 3 are Je/R, 2 are OT3, one is J/J and one is Ja/R. So I’m at least a somewhat equal opportunity porn provider.
To make it confusing, both ao3 and the DW comm use different rating systems to each other and to me (the DW one I think is the american system and is thus incomprehensible to me, and ao3’s has always seemed vague), but let’s look at them anyway:
dreamwidth
rated G - 178 uses - 5th
rated PG - 272 uses - 3rd
rated PG-13 - 329 uses - 2nd
rated PG-15 - 133 uses - 6th
rated R - 228 uses - 4th
rated NC-17 - 505 uses - 1st
I find it interesting that these numbers don’t correspond to the amount of fics with pairings that are listed in the comm, meaning I guess a lot of fics on there aren’t tagged with their ratings. I’m thus not too sure about the accuracy of these numbers—but regardless, of what’s tagged, the people want smut it seems! LOL
ao3 - Top Gear (UK) RPF
General Audiences - 618 uses - 3rd
Teen & Up Audiences - 736 uses - 1st
Mature - 525 uses - 4th
Explicit - 668 uses - 2nd
Not Rated - 155 uses - 5th
ao3 - The Grand Tour (TV) RPF is largely the same, except General Audiences and Explicit switch places:
General Audiences - 197 uses - 2nd Teen & Up Audiences - 225 uses - 1st Mature - 146 uses - 4th Explicit - 177 uses - 3rd Not Rated - 80 uses - 5th
I find it interesting that Mature is as unpopular as it is, but otherwise, I’m not too sure what else to glean from these statistics. Moving on to my final data point...
Genres
This was nearly impossible for me to quantify because I am good at tagging my fics but a lot of the tags I use are quite specific (“First Time”, “Episode Related”) so I find it hard to fit my fic into the commonly-accepted overarching ‘genres’ of fic: fluff, angst, hurt/comfort, and smut are the four that first come to mind. A lot of my fics ended up being fluff, a few smut, one or two angsty, but there are more than a few that I left untagged completely when it comes to genre because they’re kind of nothing! If anything they were maybe fluffy, but fluff to me implies tooth-rottingly sweet and these pieces didn’t really scream that to me.
smut (everything rated R basically): 7 fics
fluff: 6 fics
untagged: 5 fics
angst (but it’s weak angst by my standards, ‘minor conflict’ or ‘morose pining’ would probably be a better tag, LOL): 4 fics
double tagged (fluff/smut, smut/pwp x2, angst/smut): 4 fics
porn without plot: 2 fics
alternate universe: 1 fic
Let’s look at dreamwidth first. It has a lot of tags, which is excellent for my purposes! I haven’t included all of them; I limited myself to the top 7, an arbitrary number just cuz.
alternate universe: 428 uses
humour: 317 uses
fluff: 159 uses
gen: 150 uses
dribble/drouble/drabble: 144 uses
established relationship: 138 uses
angst: 111 uses
I suspect we’re looking at the same issue we had when examining the ratings (where people in the past have tagged their fic with the pairing but nothing else). I also suspect AU leads the pack because there’s no corresponding ‘not AU’ tag, but in all honesty I’m surprised by those numbers. Keep in mind, though, I don’t really read AU fic and don’t tend to write it (with one exception) so of course that would surprise me LOL. Humour is kinda a given with these boys, and I’m not surprised fluff is up there either. Now onto ao3!
ao3 - Top Gear (UK) RPF
Fluff: 317 uses
Established Relationship: 226 uses
RPF: 174 uses
Angst: 163 uses
Hurt/Comfort: 157 uses
Slash: 134 uses
Episode Related: 126 uses
ao3 - The Grand Tour (TV) RPF is quite similar with one amusing tag added:
Fluff: 133 uses
Established Relationship: 83 uses
Hurt/Comfort: 83 uses
Angst: 60 uses
Friendship: 46 uses
Not Beta Read: 44 uses
RPF: 39 uses
The addition of ‘Not Beta Read’ made me lol because I can identify with it a lot, but I didn’t expect it to show up in the tags! Hey, if anyone needs a beta, let me know—I love doing that shit. :D
But let’s not get bogged down with ‘oo didn’t beta ‘oo, I find the fact that RPF is on both lists to be interesting because I’ve never bothered tagging for RPF (especially as it’s already in the fandom tag). I guess it’s polite to, I just hadn’t thought of doing it! Otherwise, unlike dreamwidth, the denizens of ao3 largely seem to shun AUs (it does not appear on the list of tags at all for Top Gear (UK) RPF, and appears last in the list for The Grand Tour (TV) RPF), but we can see that fluff is right up there just like in the comm.
Conclusions
I found it interesting how the tastes of the fandom mirrored or differed to my own when it came to my writing. I found the pairing breakdowns especially fascinating with how they seem to have changed over time!
More personally, looking at my back catalogue, I truly think that anything written pre-2017 (published before of sunlight and smoke; I had my fics on a pseud of one of my kpop accounts before I deleted them all and reuploaded them on my current ao3 account which is why the dates are all a bit shonky) is a bit shit. The titles are meh, the descriptions all end in ellipses, and I just don’t think the writing is all that good.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing egregiously wrong with them. They’re just not particularly memorable; they don’t have strong plots or story beats and most were written as prompt fills. There is NOTHING wrong with prompt fills—I still love writing prompt fills—but a lot were written to fulfill a purpose (fill the prompt) and as such I didn’t have complete creative control and didn’t desire to expand on them any more than I had to. And I’m not saying my most recent works have groundbreaking premises either, but at least I can read through them and not cringe, LOL!
Anyway, if you’ve read this far, feel free to expand upon these stats yourself! I’d love to see how your writing compares, or see your own hypotheses about why the pairings have shifted so much in popularity over time!
#mev rambles#i mean i think this stuff is interesting#not to sound like james#but the vast majority won't i'm sure LOL
