Return of the nerd

Thanks to a bad decision on my part to never update my tumblr linked e-mail account I can’t get back into my old blog, unsentpromises. So rather than get too bent out of shape about it I’m revamping. I’m back y’all! (Y’all being the four people that I ever actually talked to on this site, but hey y’all.)

I have next to no DC knowledge but for the past two weeks I've had it stuck in my brain of Tony meeting the Robins and Kon just turning into a mama bird. Like he finally understands all the things Jarvis did as a kid with him. He brags about them like it's going out of style. Asks them about anything and everything until they get sick of him, fusses, and is 100% willing to drop just about everything for them. Tony just trying to give them everything because he knows about not getting enough.

oh, god, this so much–what a lovely, lovely image. i absolutely agree that tony would fall in love with every single one of them and would just be so proud and caring and giving.

tony is so, so impressed by tim’s mind and loves the fact they share a passion for coding and computers. tim even has free reign of tony’s workshop, and they spend a lot of time just sharing the space, working on their own projects. of course, barbara’s hacking skills put both of them to shame and tony is even more impressed when she gains access to his system and rewrites his codes to improve them. he brags about this to everyone, how brilliant these kids are.

i imagine that when he was young, dick relied mostly on tony (and clark) for advice about matters of the heart. tony is, without a doubt, the most vocal cheerleader for dick/babs. seeing them happy makes him happy, his heart swells in his chest, and he’s so proud that they’ve found and held on to one another throughout all the turmoil that life has thrown at them. 

tony is so patient and loving and gentle with cass. he fills the silences and is so animated and expressive–a total contrast to the way she was raised, so it’s hard for her to know what to make of him at first. but tony is patient and he gives her the room she needs to figure out what she wants to say. he always makes sure to ask for her opinion and input, even when it’s something small like ordering take-out. he never pushes or rushes her but he’s always willing to offer affection when she needs it.

poor kon feels so burdened by his genetics at times, and it’s a struggle tony understands rather well. tony is terrified of any similarity he shares with his father and fears becoming that kind of man. similarly, kon hates the fact he shares genes with lex luthor and often doubts himself because of it. (there’s even a heartbreaking comic where kon makes a list for “what would superman do” and “what would lex luthor do” and slots each of his own actions to determine which one of them he’s more similar to.) i imagine that kon and tony have long conversations about this, where tony just listens to all of kon’s fears and doubts and reassures him he can choose his own destiny, regardless of his DNA. i also think that tony would be the first person kon approaches to confess his feelings for tim. 

tony has so much fun with kara and steph. like, they probably invite him along when they treat themselves to manicures and shopping, and tony comes along happily. he loves how infectiously positive and bubbly they are. he always tells them how much he believes in them, that they can only learn by making mistakes and that’s ok and doesn’t diminish from their accomplishments, reassures them they’re doing great. they all watch rom-coms together and make fun of the rest of the bat brood together, and oh my god did you see bruce’s face when dick swung off the chandelier again and damian threatened to stab jason.

Love the idea of Merlin reading trash journalism and binge watching mindless shows to relax. You're giving me all kinds of ideas to have Merlin and Eggsy bond over it. Mean Eggsy collects Sun covers like Harry had and he brings them around for Merlin together after missions so they can both relax a bit. Eggsy stuck in medical to end up binge watching something on netflix with Merlin.

Merlin and Eggsy’s relationship gives me life tbh and I never write enough of it. I can see Eggsy convincing Merlin to marathon Jessica Jones and Daredevil over a weekend, and then a few weeks later, Merlin demands they watch OITNB. Whenever Merlin feels like absolute shit, Eggsy will come over and the two of them will run through a queue of chick flicks because they both have a soft spot for them that no one else is allowed to know about.

“This isn’t what it looks like.”

Harry stares at them, their faces flushed, their lips wetfrom the kiss he just interrupted. “Tell me what it is, then,” hesays. 

He’s pleased that it comes out so evenly, as though his hearthasn’t just broken into two, icy halves. 

Eggsy still looks dazed, his eyes dark with dismay. It’sLancelot who finds the courage to speak. “It’s the mission, sir,” shesays. “Gawain and I are meant to be a couple.” She doesn’t look atEggsy, keeps her gaze on Harry the entire time. “Only…” The color onher cheeks grows redder. “Only I find it difficult to express theappropriate physical affection I would be expected to display toward myhusband. So Egg—Gawain and I were merely…" 

"We was practicing,” Eggsy says, finally findinghis voice. “That’s all it was, swear down." 

Harry looks at them, so young and beautiful, and somethinghard and cold unclenches in his chest. "That’s not a bad idea,” hesays, and this time, damnit, there is a tremor in his voice he can’t hide. 

Lancelot smiles a little with relief. “Eggsy is like abrother to me,” she says. “Nothing more." 

Eggsy grins at her, then at Harry. "Don’t you know you’rethe only one for me?" 

"I’m sitting right here,” Lancelot complains. 

“Yeah, you are,” Eggsy says. He gets up and walksover to where Harry still stands in the doorway, having been too shocked atseeing them kissing to come any further into the room. “And since you wascomplaining about how I’m a bad kisser, let me just show you how wrong youare." 

Harry shakes his head, warmed all over again just by Eggsy’sproximity. "I’m sure Lancelot does not require a demonstration.” Helowers his voice, so only Eggsy can hear. “However, I will be more than happyto take you up on your offer once we get home tonight." 

Eggsy’s answering grin is all Harry needs to see.

If you would be kind enough to indulge me I have a deep need to know what toys Tony had been he was little. Did Jarvis give him a Winnie the Pooh? Did he have a pet rock? Tinker toys?

I think Tony had a ton of books because Howard mostly approved of those. Maria and Jarvis and Peggy get him things like the Hardy Boys and Tom Swift, the Walton Boys, National Geographic subscriptions and entire encyclopedias because even as a kid Tony was insatiable for knowledge. Later it’s Madeleine L’Engle, The Hitchhiker’s Guide, Arthur C Clarke and Popular Science. Jarvis uses special occasions to give Tony things like GI Joes or army men. Maria gave him stuffed animals and storybooks when he was little and as he got older she’s the one who gets him massive sets of Lincoln Logs, Legos, Tinker Toys. 

If he left his toys out though, Howard would throw them away to teach Tony a lesson about taking care of his things.

(Jarvis would peek into Tony’s room in the morning after he’d gone downstairs for breakfast, and put his teddy bear on the shelf and the book he’d been up late reading on the bookshelf)

When Tony goes to boarding school, Howard has most of it taken away. Maria carefully hides away the bear and the read-to-tatters copy of The House at Pooh Corner and the Captain America action figure. Howard doesn’t think to look for them because however good his intentions may have been, he didn’t know his son well enough to know what things he valued most.

((Because @unsentpromises is an excellent muse and it’s almost 2:30 A.M. so I’m not really thinking clearly, but it’s all good))

Harry peels his eyes open reluctantly. It isn’t the sunlight streaming in through the curtains that does it. It isn’t the birds twittering outside the window either. No, what wakes Harry Hart on that particular morning is the soft strains of music floating through the open door of the bedroom. “Eggsy, what-?” But when he looks over at the space where Eggsy usually sleeps he finds only an empty mattress.

Sighing, he decides the only thing to do is investigate. He rolls out of bed, tying his robe lazily around his waist and shuffling out into the hallway to find the source of the music. It seems to be emanating from the kitchen.

The sight he comes upon is not really the one he’s expecting if he’s entirely honest with himself. Eggsy is standing in front of the stove with a spatula dripping in pancake batter, currently doubling as a microphone. He’s dressed in only a pair of boxer briefs and socks, swaying side to side as he flicks the pan with his wrist, sending the pancake flying until it lands neatly back in the pan.

“R-E-S-P-E-C-T,” he belts into the spatula, hips canting from one side to the other. “Find out what it means to- Harry!” In the midst of a rather dramatic spin he spots the older man standing at the mouth of the kitchen, amused smirk on his face.

Tomato red is a good look on Eggsy, Harry thinks to himself. He colors to the very tips of his ears, mouth opening and closing a couple times before he gestures to the pan with the spatula helplessly.

“...Pancakes?”

“Pancakes sound wonderful.”

jack somehow finding this song and sending it to bitty because it reminds jack of him and bitty finds it way too adorable to chirp jack for it

Harry's drunken confession and proposal were captured thanks to Eggsy's glasses. Merlin sees that much and shows it to Harry later who has no memory of it. Merlin confronts his friend who is so clearly so gone over Eggsy but has stubbornly chosen to do anything about it while sober. Cue Roxy's glasses capturing a heartbroken Eggsy relaying the whole ordeal to his bestie, that Merlin also has to see.

I wouldn't mind continuing it really I hadn't thought anyone would take an interest in it. But it was the right time of year and I love the movie. Plus it's much too easy to picture Harry all dapper and undead with legs for miles. Not to mention being all stitched together just suited Eggsy so well. But thank you, you've made my night.

I have been screaming about a nightmare before christmas AU for ages, so I was very glad to see one pop up! 

You should certainly continue :)
