POSTAL 2 latest update also brings Steam Deck compatibility
POSTAL 2 game gets a free anniversary update with Steam Deck support, Linux, and Windows PC. All of these changes are due to the hard work and dedication of the developer team at Running With Scissors. Available on Steam, but has a massive discount on GOG or Humble Store. POSTAL 2 is a first-person shooter game that has been around for 20 years. Also selling 5 million copies but still making waves. You know, the one with the Supreme Court case and a Guinness World Record for "Most Critically-Divisive Video Game." The good news is that there is a free anniversary update out on Steam for Linux and Windows. So if you're still a fan or if you've never played it before, now's the perfect time. It's still hard to believe the game is in the Guinness World Record for being the most controversial. The creators of POSTAL 2, Running With Scissors, are celebrating the game's 20th anniversary by introducing a huge update. Since this adds a bunch of new features and upgrades. They even made sure it work great on Linux powered Steam Deck. They're adding a Two Weeks in Paradise mode and a Classic mode to the base game. So you can mix things up and play it like it's the good old days. Plus, they're adding in-game day selection and more. For starters, Running With Scissors restored the original number of particles for blood effects. So now it's going to look even more realistic when you destroy enemies. And they improved the Muzzle Flash Effects, due to make it more exciting when you shoot guns.

But that's not all! They also added new weapon options, like using Cat Silencers on more weapons. And even dual-wielding Sawn-Off Shotguns. Plus during the apocalypse in the game, the bystanders are going to use more weapons too. So get ready for some real chaos on Linux. In POSTAL 2, you play as a guy named Postal Dude, and you have to complete daily chores like buying milkm getting autographs from TV stars, and returning library books. But things can get crazy! You can use guns or choose to be peaceful and avoid violence. The game is all about the Linux player's choice and expression. The new update has features like Crackola and weapon vending machines. There are new cheats and even special behaviors for experimental cats. There are also some restored voice lines for Postal Dude that were previously unused. POSTAL 2 is a game that some people really love, and others really hate. It's known for being really funny, but also violent and controversial. Yet it's still a popular game after all these years. The POSTAL 2 free anniversary update is available now. Priced at $9.99 USD / £8.50 / 9,75€ on Steam. But you might want to grab the 90% discount on GOG or Humble Store for a limited time.

I know the discourse well is poisoned and no one hates bioware games more than bioware fans, but I am just 🫠 having so much fun with veilguard it's unreal. It is selfishly the dragon age game I always wanted. with less emphasis on cRPG, a more focused story, curated mission based design that spotlights the high fantasy stuff, slowburn structure with companions, significantly less sidequest bloat, and a fully real-time action-oriented combat system that isn't riddled with the growing pains of previous titles. when I first played origins I imagined something almost exactly like this as my ideal version of a sequel; and it was one of those dirty, selfish thoughts that I knew was disrespectful to the then-established DNA of the thing, but I can't help but feel giddy about having it here and now. like down to the shift away from the childishly dark tone and to something more inherently flexible with a baseline aspirational quality. I hate aesthetically depressing games so much. am I not alive right here and right now already
When I say "aesthetically" there though I do mean it. I'm fully on the opposite side when it comes to tone and positions expressed in the story itself. I am just not including that in my analysis because I am not done yet - so please no spoilers! I think I am where most people consider to be the second act, and I definitely have my gripes with the narrative framework and some of the optics, but I won't put the cart before the horse and will see how it wraps things up first. Above that level, in terms of how it presents itself, of how it plays, of how it balances its core pillars - it is such a bioware-ass game and I could not be any cozier in it. So grateful it exists
#and thank god for that reboot away from live service horseshit they were pushing. this is the most offline ass game in ages. bless#anyway no one is allowed to reblog this because people here aren't normal and I am afraid of spoilers#but I cant pretend not to adore every second of Beef Hilda Mercar and her adventures as a shadow dragon reaper#I have her fully invested in shield throws. that shit couldnt bounce better if zagreus was tossing it#also everyone is so pretty 🫠 this is the first time for me in a bioware game where like#purely aesthetically. i feel targeted and manipulated. these people feel designed around my tastes it's so embarassing#text#dragon age#okay I gotta mention one more thing. it is a very specific ass peeve I have#their dialogue system has never felt as.. nimble in their frostbite titles. something about the constant fades in and out and click delays#it all feels insecure on the engine-end side to me. maybe I am dumb. but veilguard also has this issue#like the original 2 DAs and the unreal engine mass effects had such snappy and frictionless selection-to-dialogue feel#and their frostbite titles I swear to god some greare is missing in the wheels there. here too. it is a LITTLE annoying since this is like#my favorite part of engaging with their games. it's not a huge issue but I have grown keenly attuned to it#inquisition had horribly bad delays in response selection. andromeda had those godawful delays in starting and ending convos#and those things are still somewhat present here albeit to a lesser degree. it feels like a streaming thing#idk. I do not make games. but I think that shit needs to feel smoother

“love” when rimworld takes hours to load(current record: over 12 hours), often crashing before getting to the main menu, only for when an attempt finally gets to the main menu, instantly closes along with steam(and wallpaper engine? discord is like a 25/75 if it’ll close too or not). we just wanna play the damn game man. we’re genuinely beginning to hate our current pc, we’re glad we’re getting a good laptop soon
#first it’s any and all Unreal Engine games#then Stardew Valley#now Rimworld?#what’s next? Ultrakill? Town of Salem 2? Minecraft? LobCorp??

How (older) Skyboxes work!
My wife was asking what skyboxes are, so I thought it would be fun to make a post showing examples of how Skyboxes can be done in Unreal 2.0 and 3.0 games. For demonstration, I'm using Killing Floor 1 (Unreal Engine 2.5) and Killing Floor 2 (Unreal Engine 3.0).
Killing Floor 1 Skyboxes (Unreal Engine2.5)
In Unreal Engine 2.5, a common way of making skyboxes was to actually create the sky scene in a separate room that can't be seen from within the playable level. You'd You would then apply a setting to the walls of the "box" around any out-door parts of the level. In-game, these walls will displayed as a "view portal" into the skybox room, thus creating the illusion of a massive surrounding environment, thus making the world feel much larger and immersive.
Visual examples below!
Using my "Zombie estate" map as an example, this is how the sky of the level looks in the editor. The walls are all set to be portals into the skybox.
Here's the skybox room. The half sphere makes the initial cloudy sky, then there's a gradient black ring to give it some more darkness. The little question mark block tells the game engine where to have the skies center perspective from.
The in-game result - Your map has has a nice, massive looking sky to make the world feel bigger and more alive!
Killing Floor 2 Skyboxes (Unreal Engine 3.0)
Possibly due to the increases in both engine power and average computer specs by 2015, making a skybox in Killing Floor 2 is a more straightforward process. The base game includes many "skybox" type models, including a simple massive sphere that you can place over the level you built. Much like in the first game, you can customize the sky area in many different ways, such as adding lighting, fog, distant trees, mountains, buildings, etc.
Visual examples below!
I'll show a few examples of skies in KF2. Here's the sky from Nuked, which is quite massive! The lighting is dark and moody to reflect the aftermath of the nuclear explosion. It's also got some nice mountains, which unlike in KF1, are to scale with everything else.
The skies in the Outpost map are quite pretty, featuring mountains, northern lights and a cold snowy winds. In this clip you can see that the mountains and sky are objects you can click on individually in order to move, scale, rotate or change their texture.
Here is my map Zombie High School, showing a smaller skybox, as only certain portions of the map are outdoors. You can see that I used flat "facade" textures to decorate the background, which look obvious and fake from the high above angle inside the editor...
..But in-game, the background looks more natural and like part of the world!
------
Unlucky is being Develop in Unreal Engine 5.0, and I'm still learning how skyboxes work in this one. The third-person plat former game template comes with a nice looking built in sky that has animated clouds, and I have tested making Killing Floor 2 style sky spheres, which seems doable as well. I'm looking forward to learning more about how skies function in this version of the engine. :) -KrissieFox

Psychonauts 2 - Texture Change and Model Replacement Tutorials
So, someone messaged me the other day asking how I changed the textures and changed the models in Psychonauts 2 and I thought I may as well write a guide to how I managed to achieve some of these changes.
I apologize in advance with how lengthy this will most likely be and if any of the wording might be a little confusing, feel free to ask me for any further explanation on areas where you might be confused.
