In other news I got this the other day so I can really show off that I’m a gay.

I recreated the polyamory flag because the official one isn't really doing it for me. The colors don't go well together and they're such an eye bleed, also the random ass pi symbol in the middle of the image.

I'm also poly myself, so I think I'm allowed to criticize flag designs I'm a part of.

Color Representation:

Pink: An altered color from the bi flag

Blue: An altered color from the pan flag

(Bi and Pan people are more open to discussing poly relationships, I know this cause I'm pan)

Green: Representing aromatics (People who don't experience romantic attraction)

Usually when Claire works the closing shift at Rocky's, she and Dean will wind down with a couple of beers at the end of the night. It's a nice little ritual Claire looks forward to every time she comes around, though she'd never admit as much out loud.

Tonight, Dean has mixed up a batch of one of his specialty cocktails - The Queen of Moondoor. It's bright, a sort of red-orange color, and has a sweet and sour taste that makes Claire's jaw ache.

"Do you like it?" Dean asks, like Claire's opinion really matters.

She nods. "It's good."

She's not lying. Dean isn't really a cocktails kind of guy but he's put a lot of effort into every detail of Rocky's. From the various pride flags carefully hung behind the bar, to the salt painted into the windowsills, every inch of the place is meticulously planned out. Rocky's isn't officially a hunter's bar - though it is explicitly a gay bar - but it's become an unofficial gathering place of queer hunters across the continental US.

Even the cocktails on the menu are Dean's own invention. All of them have a backstory, some of which Claire isn't privy to. She knows enough to understand why the Queen of Moondoor is Dean's personal favorite, though.

It also packs a surprising punch. Two drinks in, and Claire already feels herself tilting from tipsy into full-on drunk. She slows down her pace.

"How long are you planning on sticking around now?" Dean asks, because free booze is never just free booze with him. There's always the interrogation. He's almost as much of a mom as Jody is.

"A few days," Claire answers vaguely. "Maybe longer, who knows. I don't have any hunts lined up right now and you pay pretty well."

She knows for a fact he pays her double what he does his other bartenders. Neither one of them ever mentions it, though.

"Weren't you heading back to Jody's?"

Claire shrugs, uncomfortable. She had been, before last night's call with Kaia. They're good most days, even with the strain of Claire being on the road half the time, but sometimes when they talk, they'll hit on a sore topic for one of them and things will get stilted.

The anniversary of Mom's death is coming up in a couple of weeks. Kaia wanted to join Claire for her visit to the cemetery.

"What's on your mind, Strawberry Shortcake?"

Claire is supposed to roll her eyes now. Tell Dean to fuck off and mind his own business.

She doesn't really want to do that. But she doesn't know how to explain to Dean what she's feeling, either.

"It's stupid," she says. "I'm being dramatic."

"You? Never."

Claire scoffs, and Dean's eyes soften.

"You can talk to me, you know."

"Yeah," Claire says, because she does. He gets her, weirdly enough. They get each other. It probably doesn't say great things about either of them. "I just... I feel like I'm making up problems."

Dean takes a sip of his drink. It's difficult to look dignified, drinking out of a straw, and he does not remotely manage it. "Let me be the judge of that."

"Kaia wants-" Claire stops herself, because that's not the point of it. "I - we're good. Me and Kaia. I don't feel ashamed about it."

Dean waits for her continue.

"I'm a lesbian," Claire adds, even though, duh.

"Congrats," Dean says, and it feels like it could be sarcastic but it's not. He means it.

"I don't think -" no, that's not right. "I know my parents wouldn't be okay with that."

The statement lands heavily between them. It feels bitter on Claire's tongue, an ugly truth held at bay for far too long. She feels awful saying it, like she's failing her parents. Speaking ill of the dead. But it's the truth.

Mom and Dad would make these... comments. And Claire remembers each one with perfect clarity, because she's known something was different about her for a very long time. She knew those comments were aimed at her, even if her parents didn't.

They were wonderful parents in every other aspect. Up until they abandoned her, that is. Claire still can't help but feel like she's failing them, sometimes, being who she is.

"They might have changed their minds," Dean offers. "If they'd known. It's different when it's your own kid."

Claire eyes him, curious. "Was it different for your parents?"

Something crosses over Dean's expression, too quickly for Claire to catch it.

"No," he admits after a beat. He runs his hand over his face. "Maybe - Mom might have been fine with it. She didn't know."

Claire swallows. "But your dad did. And it wasn't different."

She feels cruel, pushing the topic. But there's some perverse part of her that needs the confirmation. Dean reminds her of herself, in a lot of ways. He'd say it was the other way around. If he experienced the rejection that Claire feared as a kid, the one that still scares her even if it's purely theoretical now, then that proves something.

"It wasn't," Dean admits. "But Jimmy Novak was no John Winchester."

Claire's chest aches. There's some hollow triumph at the abstract confirmation of her worst fears. Mostly, she just feels like shit.

"For what it's worth," Dean adds, "I think you're perfect. No notes."

Embarrassingly, Claire's lower lip wobbles. She clears her throat, looking off to the side as she tries to regain her composure.

"You think you're my dad or something?" she asks, voice rough.

Dean shrugs, looking embarrassed himself. "I kind of think of you as my kid, yeah. If that's okay."

Claire crosses her arms, feeling warm and aching and off-kilter. "I - yeah. Yeah, that's fine."

tim and jon met (pre-archives) before either of them had started to transition, so they've been kind of unofficial transition buddies since then, and celebrate milestones with each other

tim and sasha take martin out for dinner when he starts t, and they surprise him with a cake that says "IT'S A BOY!" (martin cries)

jon gathers a bunch of transfem resources from georgie once he learns that sasha is trans, and gives them to her in the form of a thick-as-hell binder with a little trans flag sticker on the front (he's highlighted important bits in pink and blue)

tim takes a fun little trip to hr (and elias's office) after cursing someone out for misgendering/deadnaming martin

jon silently hands out personalized pride/pronoun pins on the first day of pride month (he asked georgie to make them, as he does not have a pin press and that is not the kind of craft he knows anything about)

martin implies to jon at some point that he's used to people not seeing him as a man and the next day there's a new nameplate on martin's desk that reads "MR. BLACKWOOD" (nobody ever comes down there so there's nobody except the other archival assistants to see it, but martin still loves it)

the archival assistants have trans movie nights, where they pick movies and then (drunkenly) decide which characters have the most tgirl/tboy swag (this has led to shouting matches when tim wants to claim a character for team tboy and sasha wants to claim that same character for team tgirl)

tim gets sloshed and cries because he can't find his dick. sasha (equally sloshed) offers to give him hers. martin (a little less sloshed) has to hide all the scissors before the other two do something incredibly stupid

after he gets top surgery, the archival assistants give jon a shirt that says "I GOT MY TITS CHOPPED OFF AT CLAIRE'S"

Hear me out, I kind of submerged myself into gaylor tiktok a while ago bc I thought it was such a hilarious and ridiculous conspiracy that I wanted to know what those people were smoking and while a lot of their „evidence“ is incredibly far fetched, there are some things that genuinely baffle me like Swift mashing up two songs (it‘s nice to have a friend x dorothy) to sing „It‘s nice to have a dorothea“ (friend of dorothy = saying you‘re gay without explicitly saying it), Swift climbing up a ladder during the lavender haze performance on the eras tour + the lyrics being „staring at the ceiling with you“ (lavender ceiling = „glass ceiling imposed on lgbtq people: an unofficial upper limit to their professional advancement“ according to dictionary.com), Swift making herself the mayor of gay town in the MV of You Need to Calm Down and dyeing her hair the color of the Bi flag, mashing up another two songs to sing „do you wish you could still touch her? they see right through me (…) can you see right through me“ (the archer x question), having lyrics like „haven’t decided yet (…) whether I‘m gonna flip you off or pull you into the closet“ (imgonnagetyouback) and „I swear you could hear a hair pin drop“ (right where you left me) and „your finger on my hair pin trigger“ (the great war) = hairpin drop is another way of saying you’re gay without explicitly saying it — STUFF LIKE THIS!!! A part of me refuses to believe that a rich woman and HUGE celebrity in her mid thirties would be afraid to come out if she was actually queer but if she is straight, why…. why does she keep making these queer references 😭 like I don’t think she‘s just stupid and oblivious, I‘m pretty sure she has a team of people who would kindly inform her that the things she says and does and puts into her music are appropriating queer culture and history? I could write off one or two of such things as a coincidence but this is only the stuff I could remember without looking up…. I have never been more confused like am I just crazy for seeing queer symbolism in her music 😭 is this her version of allyship or corporate pride or

The Seattle Thunderbirds have Luke Prokop, the only openly gay hockey player in pro or semi-pro hockey right now, but they chose not to hold a Pride Night this year. So fans said fine, we’ll hold our own.

Luke promoted it on Instagram but because it was unofficial, I didn’t expect anything from the players.

Except.

Every. Single. Player used Pride tape in some way for warmups. ALL OF THEM, stepping up in a way grown-ass men are afraid to do.

Through the open door of the ensuite, he can see Regulus perched on the vanity, James standing between his legs. He’s holding Regulus’ jaw gently with one hand while the other is painting a small pride flag on his cheek.

It’s not like he’s caught them doing anything inappropriate, but Sirius still feels like he’s intruding; the smile on Regulus’ lips as they talk quietly between them somehow seems more intimate than if he had.

What a year, huh? We all know I have to be emotional on tumblr.com whenever the opportunity arises because that's one way I allow myself to have an emotional catharsis (for legal reasons this a joke)

In all seriousness though, this year has been a lot for me. Both in a good and bad sense, but Käärijä and Joker Out improved it significantly. And more importantly, their fandoms. (More inder the cut bc this is long af)

I have never really been someone who knows anything about the artists' whose music I listened to. Before this, I don't think I ever listened to a full album of someone, just random songs that I liked. Finding stuff from personal life of bands/musicians I liked usually made me depressed so I didn't bother.

Then, ESC 2023. happened. I frankly have no idea what flipped the switch in my head. Bojere interactions? The way people on tumblr were so welcoming even back when I was mostly posting about Let 3 and Käärijä only? I don't know, I only know that we are here now, regardless.

Another thing about me is that I used to be very pessimistic person. Likez genuinely. I have been "unofficially"(long story) diagnosed with depression and anxiety since I was 11, which is over a decade now. I always had a lot of bad experiences with people and really awful trust issues. I have been doing better for some time now, but it is very hard to let go of the feeling of pessimism and helplessness. In a world where awful things happen every second, what can I possibly do that would change anything?

Then ESC happened. Käärijä lost and I thought "another injustice that will never be corrected". Except, instead of feeling defeated, everyone just loved him more. In those weeks after and later on months, all I have seen had been unrelenting love and acceptance of Jere. Reminding him that despite not winning Eurovision, he is our winner and we'll forever think of him as such. Jere who has a wonderfully belly and strong thighs and is short and by no means is he conventional in any sense. And people loved him not despite all that but because all that. Because we all found ways to relate to him, or to what he went through.

His story of almost dying and still getting where he did only served to highlight that more. Because of he did it, why can't we get to what we want? Why can't I? It shifted my whole perspective.

Then, Joker Out. It is so, so funny to me how I barely paid any attention to them during ESC, except for bojere interactions and was dragged in it by the shared fandom, when now I post most about them.

But yes, JO. A band from Slovenia that while tehnically isn't Balkan, felt so close to me. Like they could understand all the things I kept to myself because of where I was. And then they showed me there is still hope.

I have never seen a band from around here take a pride flag on the stage. Never. I know it's a thing, especially abroad, but God I have never seen that happen here. And with how much love they always took it! That's...wow. It gave me hope that not only is it possible for injustices to be corrected, but that ot's possible to do it even in the environment I'm in.

And then...the Virtual Letters Project happened. Or well positive confessions that @spockowhales turned into Virtual Letters Project.

That's when I knew it's truly possible. I have seen tumblr posts, yes. But getting stuff so directly addressed about or to JO made me realize how much of a "wave" they all created. So many people said they helped them with their depression, with viewing their world differentky with meeting new peoplez with daring to do something new.

I have no words to describe how much that meant to me and I really hope that when they read those letters, they understood the impact they had.

But even that aside, I want to thank everyone in this fandom. People I have talked to, people I have interacted with it any way, through replies, reblogs, likes, anon asks. I appreciate every single one of you for helping create such a wonderful space. We had our ups and downs in the fandom, but we are all here because we love these fandoms, these people so much to keep talking about it even months after.

This isn't exactly a "coming out" per say, but since it's pride month, here's my flag/flags!

I've been identifying as unlabelled for around the past four years now, but it's only in recent times I've been confident in calling myself a sapphic. Yet even then, I still resonate with "unlabelled" for a multitude of reasons, so I thought I'd combine them! An unlabelled sapphic :] (plus, an unofficial flag made by yours truly!)

- Saw the Flaggots at Philly Pride and decided to join despite having no prior athletic or musical interest

- Technique is just okay but they bring ~the dramA~ when performing

Allison:

- C*nty former competition dancer who hated all the drama but still wanted to perform

- Helps underclassmen with their hair & makeup

- Hosts the “summer sectional that’s really an excuse for a pool party” every year at her house

- An absolute beast on rifle

Renee:

-Upperclassman career flag who *could* make rifle line but simply doesn’t want to

- Helps all of the flag newbies not be too scared to let go

- Unofficially in charge of team bonding

-Bakes cookies related to the show theme for show days

Matt:

- Also plays an instrument and is therefore friends with everyone

- Knows all of the cheerleaders & football players & convinces them to come to a band/winterguard competition

- Runs the guard insta & makes the section t-shirts

Dan:

- Guard captain who is very supportive but also wants to WIN

- Very strict about conditioning days, but will always chill out if someone is on their period

- Organizes a ton of sectionals even when it’s cold and no one wants to go, but always buys pizza

Aaron:

- The straight STEM girlie who somehow ended up there

- Instead of practicing, they just complain about how hard their classes are to justify not knowing the choreo

- Got in trouble with the director for being homophobic, but the team was too small to make them quit

Seth:

- Only wants to spin rifle bc he thinks flags are “for girls”

- Refuses to try during dance warmups

- Never goes to optional sectionals

- Skips band parties for “real” parties
