I have an idea about oscar knowingto cut his arm OFF instead of cutting the thing Out. So his arm like, skitters away right after arthur cuts it off. Like this thing was crawlin through the veins in Oscar's arm, which i think would be kinda hard NOT to notice if it was happening to you. I’ve been thinking a lot about why a lot of people are starting to hate Lando sm and while i do think part of it does have to do with him just performing good and having a championship winning car, the other part might just be because he’s “changed” and he’s had a few “immature” moments so to speak. Like people are largely unhappy with his petty comments with Lewis in the cool down room (which yes as a lover of the norris boy i agree lashing out was childish and unnecessary), how he acted about Oscar’s first win (which to an extent ik why people are upset at Lando’s behaviour but…i can sympathise with both sides and can’t dislike him for that because it was a painful and complicated situation), and most recently his “cocky” comment after winning the dutch gp where he repeated Max’s signature line or wtv (which i myself didn’t see much issue with since they’re friends and Max himself didn’t show any significant emotion towards either).

A lot of it boils down to people calling Lando arrogant and perhaps him not “delivering” enough to be that arrogant and my opinion on that is: firstly) the whole SPORT is built on arrogance lol every single driver on the grid is competitive, arrogant, and so pumped full of adrenaline and rage that they say and do a lot of stupid shit when high on the emotions from a race. Literally every driver ever, from the grid now and from the past, has been far from perfect. Think Seb, the grid’s father even after retirement, hailed the nicest most genuine driver ever. Ya think he hasn’t had his cocky, fucked up moments? My mans was a MENACE in his prime. Yall need to stop wearing rose-tinted glasses for your favs lol. Max, who’s gotten into many childish altercations after races, like the infamous moment with Ocon and even last year with George. But no one criticizes Max to that degree (disclaimer: i don’t dislike any of the drivers i’m using as examples. I am a lover of all but that also means i criticize fairly). It’s fucked up to say you excuse certain behavior from someone just because they’re winning more or a better driver in your opinion. Very very fucked up to call someone who’s open about the mental struggles of being a racer “weak”. Lando’s far from perfect but so is every other driver on the grid.

They’re all human, they’re all clinically insane because only a crazy person would live their life riding at that speed for the thrill of it. They’re all heavily flawed, they’re all emotional beings. They have their moments of pettiness, aggression, immaturity, arrogance. This isn’t just in defense of Lando but of every driver on the grid. Stop putting them on a pedestal of unrealistic standards. They’re fuckin F1 drivers, some of the most fucked up (said fondly) species of human. And stop being hypocrites. It’s okay to criticize them, rather we should criticize them. My Movie Review: "Challengers" 🎾

Okay okay..... Here we gooo! Another film review.... 😁🙌🏾

Y'all.... I have so much to say about this movie lol. 😅 I'll just be honest, like...I had some mixed feelings about this one!

Okay, so first of all.... I had a great time going to see this movie. My girlfriends and I all went to one of those theaters where you can order REAL food and alcohol, and they bring it right to your seat. 😁 We decided to treat ourselves to this one, and just have a "girl's night out" watching it.

Our little theater was quite packed too! Saw a lot of date-night couples watching this together lol. 🤭 I think I saw another group who was doing a girl's night out.

So anyway....

The movie ended up being an enjoyable rollercoaster for all of us lol. It definitely kept my attention, it wasn't boring at all, and it gave many of us several things to talk about/discuss long after the movie was over! I LOVE films that make you think, and that have you talking about it afterwards. Even if we disagree, it's just nice to see a movie like this that sparked a good discussion afterwards. 😊 Here were my Pros/Cons and random thoughts that I had during and after this movie lol....

PROS

Everyone's acting was solid in this! I already knew that Mike and Josh are stellar actors (I've seen them in other projects before, and both have done theater if I'm not mistaken), but ZENDAYA!! Zendaya babeeeee....She surprised me in this one! Dare I say it?? I think "Challengers" was her best acting job yet on the big screen. 👏🏾 She really embodied that "Bad B*itch"/Boss vibe very well imo. She was definitely believable! LOL 😅

The CINEMATOGRAPHY! Omg the cinematography in this film was so good and on point. I loved how the camera would change perspectives during a match (especially the end match) and would switch and show you the ball's pov, then the pov of the players, and whatnot. It was dizzifying switch and camera change for sure lol, but it was very creative. I honestly think that this film could be nominated for an Oscar just for the cinematography alone. 😊👍🏾

The music .... The music was a pro AND a con (more on that later) for me. It had a really hype techno beat throughout the movie, and that really helped to keep the movie hyped and show the fast-pace of the sport. I really liked it! It was catchy lol. 😅

Zendaya was GORGEOUS in this movie! I kept looking at how flawless her skin was in this. It's so rare that we get "adult" Z in her films lol, so it was just nice and refreshing to see her finally playing more of an adult in a big screen role, and seeing her be the desirable/sexy/attractive one in a film for a change. She really looked amazing in this. 😊 I'd love to see her do more roles where she's playing the object of desire. We need more woc in roles like this.

I loved the subtle ways in which Luca shows that tennis is basically like a relationship in this film. I loved that metaphor. I think the little subtle hints for the movie were quite creative, and it's one of those films where I think it would be good to watch at least twice in order to catch more of the subtleties and how the sport related to their relationships and inner dynamics throughout the film.

I LOVED that scene where Patrick and Tashi met up with each other, and it's so WINDY and wild. Just like their relationship.... Windy, unpredicatable, destructive, yet exciting... Unlike her boring relationship with her husband lol. LOVED the subtleties in this film.

I loooved seeing Zendaya in her "Bad Gal" element. Yaaass! 👏🏾 I love it! I think it's harder playing a villain or someone who's not redeeming honestly.

Hahaha I have to give a shoutout to Darnell.... Good seeing him on the screen. Glad he was able to add another big major film on the big screen to his roster lol. 😜

Zendaya's body was BODY GOALS in this film.... 🔥 Can I just say?? I was like, "Dang.... let me keep going to the gym". 👀 And then, the other thought I had was, "Shooooot....no wonder Tom came back ROTFL." 😅🤣 Lemme stop lol.

I loved the anticipation for the final match, and it really kept you on the edge of your feet lol. 😁

CONS

Now for the cons.... 👀

Was it just me?? Or, sometimes the music in this movie was a bit TOO loud Lol. For example, there was a scene where Patrick and Tashi were talking in the hotel, and the techno music is SO LOUD that I could barely even make out what they were saying (and it seemed important too). Maybe it's just me.... But at times, the music was drowning out the dialog, and I didn't like that. Anyone know what Patrick and Tashi said to each other at the hotel when the music got to be so loud lol? 😅

I STILL hate that "my little white boys" line ...UGH! It's SO CRINGGGGGE! 😫😩🙈

I definitely saw a LOT more sausage and moons than I expected to see in this movie lol... 👀 😅 I meannnnn.... Idk... Is male frontal nudity EVER really necessary?? Let's be honest lol. I honestly don't think so. I kind of wonder why it's even needed?? (I say the same thing about female frontal nudity as well). Idk, sometimes I wonder why certain directors make that choice to add that in, when it's not even necessary 9 times out of 10. I just don't like things being done gratuitously . Like, gratuitous sex scenes for example.

I'll be honest, I didn't really care too much for some of the plotlines and writing in the film.... 😬 I'll also just come right out and say it... I kind of wish that Z had done a slightly different film than this for her big-screen lead role debut. I kind of wish it weren't such an "adult" film with a ton of sexual themes and elements. I kinda wish too that Tashi was not personified in the way that she was. It's one thing to be a very determined and dedicated athlete, but another thing altogether to be the stereotypical cold, icy, attitude-having diva. I also look at this from a woc/black woman's pov as well. Part of me feels like we as Black women are so hypersexualized (and seen as "grown") , and stereotyped as having "attitudes" from such a young age, and it just makes me feel like women/female actresses shouldn't have to get naked or be overly sexualized in order to win awards or get good critical acclaim for their roles. (I read that the film Emma Stone won an Oscar for this year, "Poor Things", had a lot of sex and nudity in it as well....🥴) Don't get me wrong, I'm not a "prude", but when it comes to WOC, I just want better for us since we're already so stereotyped and stigmatized. Like, why couldn't Z's big-screen lead role debut be the Ronnie Spector Biopic film?? Or, why couldn't it be a film like "Hidden Figures" where she's playing a black female mathematician who aids in the space launch? I don't feel like you have to resort to sex or get undressed in your underwear to be taken "seriously" as a "serious actor", but maybe the meaty roles for adult women in Hollywood that don't add that in are really scarce. Anyway, that was my only gripe. 😊

RANDOM THOUGHTS & QUESTIONS

When people claimed that there wasn't any real redeeming character in this film...boyyyyy...they weren't KIDDING!!! 🤣 I don't mind characters who aren't perfect or aren't the best though, so that didn't bother me. My only question was.... Why on earth did Tashi hate Patrick so much?? Does anyone else know?? 😅 I kept waiting and waiting during the movie to see some big REVELATION of something really HORRIBLE that he did to Tashi in order to deserve the type of hate that she dished out to him, but I couldn't figure out anything?? I mean, I know they dated each other at one time when they were younger, but I don't see why she's still hating on this man in her 30's when they dated in their teens and early 20s lol. 😅 She's out here married and even has like a 6 year old kid and is STILL hating on this man.... WHY?? 😅 Can someone PLEASE explain that to me?? Cuz right now, I can only surmise that the only reason why Tashi is so mean to Patrick is because deep down, she's still attracted to him, so she has to hate on him in order to curb that HAHAHA. 🤣 Maybe I'm just a Patrick-sympathizer lol, but I can't really see how he was a bad boyfriend or how he did anything wrong?? Yes, he shouldn't have slept with Tashi (Art's WIFE), but HE was single.... TASHI was the one married, so really, SHE was the main one at fault here as far as I'm concerned lol. 😅

Why did Art and Patrick like Tashi so much?? I mean, aside from the fact that she was gorgeous (obviously lol)....She seemed like such a ballbuster and treated them like crap lol.

I do kinda feel bad for Art though on some level, cuz it was CLEAR Tashi was in a boring, lifeless marriage and didn't really love him anymore lol.

I saw people in our audience gasping and covering their mouths during some of the sexual scenes lol. I could tell a couple of the girls in the theater were fans of Zendaya and had never seen her in such a role before hahaha. Some were laughing at some of the sexual stuff and it was like uncomfortable laughter/giggling lol. The guys included lol. 🤭

I'm not sure what awards this film will be up for, but seeing as how it's a film by Luca, we might actually see Z getting an Oscar nod for this!! Or, at the very least, maybe engaged in a FYC campaign. I can see it. Luca is very well-known...his film CMBYN garnered Oscar nods (including an Oscar nod for Timothee), and Z is Hollywood's Darling atm, soooo idk y'all! We might be looking at "Oscar-Nominated Actress" Zendaya next year! I guess we'll have to see lol. 😊

I looooved that Z was able to work with such a renowned and well-liked film director. I'm glad she got that experience. She's been working with some great directors lately (ie. Luca, Denis, etc), and I love that for her. It seems like FFC was also eyeing her for one of his roles at one time as well. So, I'm so proud of our girl!!! 👏🏾

OVERALL

Overall.... Definitely a fun, joyride of a film. 😊 VERY creatively done. So far, I haven't really been THAT impressed with Luca's films (CMBYN being the other one I've seen), but his films def make you THINK, long after they're over, that's for sure lol. The movie was fun and enjoyable to watch. There were just a few things that I felt could have been better imo.

So, I'm curious whether sensei creates a character first and then thinks about their Zanpakutō, or if it's the other way around.

First of all, "1. physical location ①" is the storehouse where the Asauchi are kept, which will be distributed to those who will soon enter the Shin'ō Academy and become Shinigami or members of other organizations. Even in this case, it certainly would be surprising for Ichigo, but I don't think it's something to be that boastful about. This is because it is (most likely) a teacher from the Shin'ō Academy who takes out Asauchi from the storehouse and then distributes them, so it's not Ōetsu's privilege.

Next, "2. physical location ②" means that, similar to GPS, he can perceive the current location of all Zanpakutō which have been released from their Asauchi. 

Finally, "3. Psychological & spiritual location" is the key point where Shinigami who possess Asauchi liberate their Asauchi. I believe there is a standard which dictates how far a Shinigami needs to go before they are able to release it, and I wonder if Ōetsu knows what that standard is for all Shinigami. Knowing the key point for the release criterion of all Shinigami extending from Soul Society let alone to the various locations in the Human World is truly an extraordinary feat which deserves to be called 'god-like'.

This is my first post ever and I’m pretty new on this so bear with me here 😭😭

I’m not exactly the biggest bnha fan but I’ve always really liked Shoto, Monoma and Hawks. Especially Shoto. But whenever I see fanfics or smau’s or one shots, (you name it), in my opinion he’s 99% of the time VERY mischaracterized.

Call me crazy (I am) but I kinda sorta psychoanalyzed his character and here are A FEW of my head canons :))

Feel free to disagree ofc and I mean absolutely no hate to anyone these are just my opinions !!

★ - He’s not morally good, per se, but morally complex. He’s a good person for sure but doesn’t exactly always do what is “heroic.” For example, if there was a battle going on and Shoto had to choose between saving 10 civilians or a loved one, (e.g Rei) he would definitely choose to save Rei.

★- He’s not as dense as people think he is. Shoto is usually portrayed as dense when it comes to girls flirting with him or sarcasm. But I don’t think he’s always like that. Especially because he’s quite sarcastic himself. I think over time he’d start understanding things like that a lot more. I also think he’s secretly really funny lmao. He’d have peak dark humor.

★- Sleep deprived but not exactly an insomniac. It’s canon that Shoto can sleep at anytime in any environment, but we all know he has PTSD. I feel like he’d have nightmares really often and would avoid sleeping because of that. It’s not that he can’t sleep, he just doesn’t want to.

★- The way he got over his trauma so quickly in anime was kind of unrealistic in my opinion. I feel like he’d only JUST processed some of it and hadn’t exactly gotten over it. It would definitely take more time than just a few months.

Okay so here are some cute/funny ones !!

★- DEFINITELY plays piano and guitar. I feel like he was forced to learn piano as a kid and learnt guitar and got better at it to be petty.

★- A lot of people headcanon that he’d be a Mitski fan but I think that’s more of a Deku thing. Shoto would be a Nirvana, Deftones and Radiohead kind of guy. Maybe he’d even listen to the neighborhood or Lana Del Rey. (Off topic but I DEEPLY believe that Bakugo listens to Ayesha Erotica religiously.)

I've been reading The Rose of Versailles manga, which I feel has become a sort of required reading as a SMT4 fan lol. And actually I can see how this manga helped shape the game's story and worldbuilding, as well in guiding Isabeau's own decision-making and ultimate stance.

This is obvious but, Mikado is in a way parallel to 18th century France. Both have nobles who are more concerned with their leisurely lifestyles and climbing the aristocratic ladder than to concern themselves with the growing plight of the lower class, instead leaving them to bear the brunt of their frivolities. Both see a growing unrest among the embittered labourers, including the emergence of intellectuals among them who question the status and even need for nobles. Both experience tension that is rapidly reaching a violent tipping point.

But then there's also Lady Oscar.

Oscar was born into a life of luxury and privilege -- no different to Isabeau herself -- but unlike most other nobles, Oscar is actually acutely aware of the class differences and addresses them.

She recognizes the growing unrest in Paris and gives Marie Antoinette counsel for the good of the country. She becomes aware of her own privileged upbringing and lifestyle and, rather than cling onto this and look down upon those of lesser means, she levels herself with them. She realizes that the royal guard is packed with "pretty puppets", who earned their celebrated positions through no more than their looks and birthright (there's similarities to this with the Mikado Samurai), and chooses to step down and transfer to a lower guard.

I still have only read up to volume 2 of 5 so far. But nonetheless, Oscar leads by strong morals and never shirks her beliefs for what is just, and I can easily see how Isabeau would look up to her as a guiding figure and as someone she could see herself in. Especially when Isabeau is scared and uncertain of the rapidly destabilizing climate around her. The Rose of Versailles helped her navigate that.

Sure it might be a little ridiculous for the neutral rep to come to her terms through reading a shoujo manga about 18th century France, but how many of us have also had our worldviews be challenged and changed by engaging with a piece of fiction? This is actually a good thing. And it wasn't as if Isabeau wasn't seriously contemplating all the things going on around her before reaching her conclusion.

Putting SMT4 aside though, The Rose of Versailles is a beautifully written and illustrated historical fiction in its own right with plenty of sociopolitical commentary that are still just as relevant today as they were during its original publication. As well as being a crucial piece in shoujo manga history whose influence can still be felt. It is well worth a read (or even a watch if you prefer anime) that I can't recommend enough.

with Carlos there was just never a question of Lando trying to puff up and challenge him and he's said that his rookie season was the hardest on him psychologically. he said that he spent it questioning if he really did have what it took and that constantly seeing Carlos confidently talking to the engineers and asking for things and settling into the car so well was very hard. we have to remember that rookie seasons in F1 aren't like other sports - these guys spend that first season wondering if each race is going to be their last (the whole Nyck de Vries situation). and because Lando compensated for what was going on behind the scenes by latching onto carlando - a big, fun and loud bromance - it was an even bigger thud when Carlos left. but !! Lando decided that if McLaren wouldn't let him sink then he would damn well swim. then of course with Daniel there was the shift in dynamic where Lando truly started to become the McLaren brand and it's great hope. but he was also having to deal with at least a little emotional whiplash of Daniel seeming like he'd be another carlando bromance, and also Daniel's not at all concealed disappointment (I'll leave it at that bc I'm not much of a fan lol).

so that "caring too much and not caring at all" back and forth that you said is absolutely something that plays a role in the stuff Lando is so candid about struggling with. he was so ready to finally be Normal About His Teammate when Oscar arrived all neat and tidy and with no baggage or agenda. and I think a part of Lando has tried to view Oscar as a typical rookie who will either be a bit of a nervous wreck, or be merely passing through McLaren for a couple of seasons - or re-negotiate and be shunted off sooner - or all three.

but then Oscar was the exact opposite of a nervous wreck and he's actually been a source of calm for Lando (as Lando himself said, "much more than my last teammate"). Oscar also worked exceptionally hard to show respect and appreciation to the team on every level. and then he signs on for yet another year before the season is even over!

that just leaves the anxiety of that P1 spot hanging in the air. and again, remembering how different F1 is to other sports and even other racing, these guys are ALL going for that spot with equal ferocity. there's no 'Lando wants it more' - that spot is literally why these drivers got to where they are. I know everyone brings up Kimi but lmaoooo that was his persona - he was there to win. you don't win shit in F1 if you're not wanting it on a cellular level.

so on most conscious levels, Lando is firmly in the "I want to win and I want to beat every other guy including Oscar/especially my teammate" because he couldn't possibly contend if he didn't think that. BUTTT. Lando is a much more complex guy than most F1 drivers and he's got an extremely open heart. so I do think we see him caught up in worrying about how strong Oscar's rookie season was and that sprint win - but this time there's an added feeling of rooting for Oscar the way that Oscar has always rooted for him. unlike Carlos and Daniel, Oscar doesn't have that alpha chest-beating thing that can also translate as sullenness and bitterness when they don't come first - and especially when it's their teammate who performs better than they do. and while it doesn't come from chest-beating, Lando absolutely sinks into sullenness even if it isn't as bitter as haters want to think.

so the fact that Lando now has a teammate who celebrates Lando's successes as much as Lando does for others (see Singapore and having to put up with his P2 spot being attributed solely to Carlos pfff) - to the point of Oscar chasing Lando down in parc ferme or standing totally unseen among the team during the podium celebrations) - is the cause for a lot of that intensity and almost a little bit of phantom pain? that we see sometimes when Lando watches Oscar talk. Lando broadcasts every feeling on his face and he just doesn't yet know what to do !! with Oscar.

it's also why I have my vestal virgins au which yes is in itself very weird, but the part about McLaren having another phenom young drivers without a lick of toxic masculinity as their motivation is honestly as new to fans and F1 overall as it is for Lando. we feel a bit off-kilter bc Lando being the adoring baby to Carlos and the adorable baby to Daniel was so easy bc - as I've also admitted - we all have sometimes reduced Lando to his cuter and funnier side rather than his serious contender side. but Oscar doesn't do that! Oscar finds Lando cute and funny when Lando is being cute and funny, but he also lets Lando determine the tone and if Lando is feeling more serious or frustrated or upset then Oscar quietly follows him there. and in turn, Lando brings up Oscar's hard work and success and says things like "how are you feeling Oscar? Oscar's been under the weather so it's even more impressive how he's done".

and idk I just think of the sprint win when they're posing with their plaques and you can see Lando struggling. but then! Oscar is so quietly happy and proud but he doesn't gloat or showboat at all! he even points out that while a win is always nice it's not the same as a race win. and we knew enough about Oscar's respect and deference that that was at least partly intended for Lando. and then Oscar said the same thing again and again in interviews! and then Lando started bringing it up himself and the hurt wasn't even there anymore - he could even ruefully joke about Oscar being the only one with a win!

so I feel like the conflict we see in Lando's eyes sometimes when he looks at Oscar is his tender heart seeing qualities in Oscar that he hasn't seen before in other F1 drivers, let alone teammates - mixed with his own specific pain at not having a win yet and how intangible it sometimes still feels.

in totally my own stupid probably weird perception - and this is probably a huge leap - the little tinge of bittersweetness to Lando and Oscar is that Oscar could truly end up meaning so much to Lando and it's a little overwhelming??

especially because Oscar is so opaque and quiet and withdrawn normally with everyone, even when it's talking about his parents or even Lily - yet he makes these serious and concerted efforts to show how much he respects and considers Lando in how he behaves and what he says. there's nothing remotely casual or lazy, even when/especially when he refuses to give journalists anything personal about his working relationship with Lando.

and Lando could probably safely assume that Carlos would behave just like Daniel - or how any other F1 driver would - if Lando was absolutely outstripping him. not just because of the difference in age (which is negligible now) but because that's honestly Lando's own first response to watching your teammate succeed while you struggle. but that little window where Oscar was keeping pace with - and occasionally exceeding - Lando's performance and even then, Oscar's ego never showed up in the form of crowing or forgetting about Lando beside him was like this agonizing sweetness on top of him never once being bitter about Lando's success.

and unlike Carlos and Daniel, Oscar knew so much and invested serious time into finding out about Lando (so very much alfgjlasfjl) so he's never been caught out by Lando's moods or needs. Carlos to this day seems kind of baffled and a little frightened by how intensely Lando latches onto him as a security blanket. and Daniel's big, loud smile faltering because Lando looked a little pained at being treated like just another DannyRic bromance. even the difference of Oscar's fond little "you're not very adventurous with food, are you?" versus Carlos' coaxing "Lando you need to mature" and getting him to touch the fish in the box. Oscar won't even jokingly try to get Lando to be someone he isn't because all of those things make up who Lando is to Oscar in the same way they do for us as fans.

I wrote an equally long post about guys like Carlos and Daniel realizing they're holding Lando's heart in their hands and feeling freaked the fuck out like 'aaaahhhh take it back take it back!'. but I realized I had no idea how Oscar would react because I don't know if Oscar's relationship to Lando would ever have him in a position to take it for granted that he holds Lando's heart in his hands. if he didn't want it then he would be terse and dismissive as well as more performatively bromancey with Lando. so it's clearly that Oscar wouldn't presume that he's in the position to have it.

so when Lando looks at Oscar he sees:

someone who he openly says makes him better as a driver

someone who is absolutely capable of getting the win before he does

someone who is considerate and kind and doesn't let bitterness fester

is the perfect complement to Lando's will-o-wisp personality

doesn't thrive off of ego and never drags anything off the track with him

who is intimidating precisely because of his calm centeredness

is so similar to Lando in a lot of ways, and so different to him in even better ways

is low-maintenance and non-demanding as a teammate

but does the fact that he doesn't "need" anything from Lando as a teammate feel nice or does it feel hurtful

is so difficult to read and even harder to get to know on a deeper level

distinctly decided against trying to make their relationship camera-friendly even though we know he absolutely does do that with some drivers (Prema, Alpine)

truly, genuinely likes who Lando is in every way

for some reason doesn't see the need to try and clarify or define that any further

god yeah it's got to be the most baffling feeling when it seems like your new teammate could slot right in with your closest friend group but he's also your biggest competitor besides Max V but he's also helping and supporting you on and off the track and sometimes it feels like he's turning his world around you as his sun but then he has this grown-up life outside of you so where does it all fit and what do you even think about it??

summary : aaliyah l.n is the youngest driver on the grid and is mclaren's third driver. the entire grid love and adore her, she is literally formula one's baby! but no one loves her more than her teammates, lando and oscar. let's just say she's mclaren's baby for the lack of a better term, more than she is formula one as a whole's baby!

a/n : this was requested by anon and thank you so much for understanding my want for wanting to write more fluff over angst! also, i'm sorry anon but i decided to give the reader a name because it would bother and confuse me lol

being a formula one driver was exhausting for all that got into the sport and was excellent in it. and the three mclaren drivers, oscar piastri, lando norris and aaliyah l.n knew just how exhausting it could be. those three were known as formula one's sleepy heads because of how much and how well they slept and could sleep anywhere. and it was quite common for those three to be caught sleeping, whether it was together all three of them, or them in duos or separately, it was always something that would then be brought up during the next grand prix in the press conferences. even though it would never be caught by their specific cameras, it was always photographed or videoed by the other drivers on the grid who just found it hilarious and very sweet that they were sleeping next to one another.

however, this time, aaliyah and oscar did get caught and in a very compromising position that could have been described as 'suggestive' if it wasn't already known that both aaliyah and oscar were dating other people. and their partners had absolute confidence and no insecurities that what these three were doing was anything more than platonic. this time they were caught falling asleep together in their hospitality room at the monaco grand prix. oscar leaning against the wall with aaliyah sitting in his lap, his arms wrapped around her protectively to keep her safe and secure as the girl tried her very best in fighting the sleep that oscar had very easily welcomed by that point. he was so exhausted that he could no longer fight it, his head resting back against the wall whilst the rest of his body was making sure aaliyah wouldn't fall off of his as he held her tightly. lando was miracuously still wide awake after the race and was just keeping a sweet watchful eye on his two fellow teammates just in case oscar loosens his grip or aaliyah slides right out, he's right there just in case something like that were to happen to catch his best friend.

"...and as we leave ferrari's hospitality and say goodbye to charles and carlos, our cameras enter into the mclaren's hospitality and...aw this is super sweet...we say hello to lando norris, oscar piastri and aaliyah l.n. lando is wide awake unlike his two teammates oscar and aaliyah. aaliyah, poor girl is trying her very best to fight off her exhaustion whilst oscar seems to have welcomed it, no longer able to fight it and has fallen asleep with his teammate on his lap, his arms wrapped tightly around her so she doesn't slip or fall off of him. it's also clear that lando, whilst scrolling through his phone, is keeping a very watchful eye on aaliyah and oscar just to make sure nothing bad happens and no injuries happen since oscar and aaliyah are on top of the bed and there is the potential of easily sliding off. do you have anything about this to comment on, mr coulthard?" one of the commentators, martin brundle, says with a sweet smile as david coulthard speaks up

"why yes i do mr brundle and speaking on our three mclaren drivers that we see here, it's very clear and known by so many of us that aaliyah is the youngest driver on the grid and she is very much loved by all of the drivers. however, this moment here that we are witnessing is one of the many moments where we're shown just how much more loved she is by her fellow teammates, oscar and lando. it's well known that they absolutely adore her more than the rest of the grid and would do anything for her which i always find the sweetest thing every single time we see those moments throughout the race week. however, now that we look back at the sleeping drivers, we can now see that aaliyah can no longer fight against her exhaustion and has now fallen asleep on oscar. lando, once again, is still wide awake and has now decided to begin to take photos of the sweet moment that all of us are witnessing live at this moment..." david's voice fades out as aaliyah falls into her deep sleep in the lap of her fellow mclaren teammate, oscar, his arms holding her tightly across her middle so she wouldn't slip

oscar and aaliyah managed to sleep for a good couple of hours before lando was put into the awful position of having to wake them up for the press conference after the race. when lando woke up his teammates, they were still perfectly still and comfortable in the same position they both fell asleep in. which, for so many of the mechanics were so shocked and impressed by. whenever oscar and aaliyah fell asleep with one another, it always sucked for lando to wake them up. because just like him, those two loved their sleep and hated to be disturbed when they were sleeping.

"...hey, osco, lela, i know this sucks but you two need to wake up!" lando's voice was what the two other drivers heard next as they both groaned

"thanks lando!" oscar groaned, his eyes opening immediately whilst aaliyah's did not which oscar and lando found to be the sweetest thing ever

it was very clear from the beginning just how exhausted she had been the entire race weekend. it was clear she hadn't been able to sleep properly since she was so nervous since this grand prix was the first one that her parents were going to be attending. and because of that, she had pushed herself too far and exerted herself a little to much which caused her and red bull driver sergio perez to crash. thankfully though, she did manage to recover and get into the points at fourth place, just missing the podium by a small margin. her parents though were just glad their daughter was able to recover from the crash and still do so well, not mad at all that she didn't make the podium which was a relief for everyone that watched the moment the young driver had with her parents. and now that she was finally able to relax, her body had finally decided that the only thing it could physically do now was just to sleep. and that was why she still hadn't woken up even after hearing lando.

and whilst this was very adorable, lando couldn't just let aaliyah stay asleep. especially when it was time for the 90 minute press conference after the podium ceremony. even though she just missed out on making it, she was still needed for some reason as were her other mclaren teammates.

"i'm sorry lela but you have to wake up!" lando sighs, his hand brushing through aaliyah's hair, hoping it would wake her up

and it did wake her up. even though it made her cower back into oscar's chest for a couple of seconds. which was another sweet moment caught on the f1 cameras, she did eventually lift her head back up and slipped herself out of oscar's grip so they could leave for the press conference.

"next time lando please warn me a little better and nicer?" aaliyah joked as she smiled at him, pushing him slightly as he giggled

"of course i will. i'm so sorry lela, it was so cruel of me to wake you up like that," lando giggles as does aaliyah as she shakes her head, oscar just rolls his eyes with a small smile as the three of them make their way to where they needed to be

they had finally made their way to the press conference and it was clear to the drivers that the interviews already know what they were going to ask. so, the drivers, oscar, lando and aaliyah just let them do their thing.

"...welcome to the driver's press conference and with us here we have our three drivers from mclaren, lando norris, oscar piastri and aaliyah l.n. before we get into our questions, just thought to remind everyone to be respectful, don't ask questions that could be percieved as offensive and also state your name, country and which publication you are representing, go ahead..." the moderator of the press conference announced as straight away, hands of the media personell flew up into the air

however, a media represenative of sky sports was the first one to ask a question and she went straight into it.

"...hello, i'm elena barker from sky sports and i just have a question for aaliyah and i was just wondering if out of your two male drivers, who is more comfortable to fall asleep on, oscar or lando?" and giggles ripped through the press conference room immediately as aaliyah giggled, giving looks to oscar and lando who also giggle

straighening herself up in her seat, aaliyah thinks for a moment before coming to her response, "for me it depends on the situation in regards to who's more comfortable out of the two of them. so, today for example, the award goes to oscar since he was the one that i fell asleep on. however, i have to say, majority of the time, it is lando that is more comfortable since oscar and i have only actually fallen asleep on each other a couple of other times. whereas me and lando have done it since we were kids growing up together back when we did karting. but yeah, today the winner, so to speak, is oscar," aaliyah smiled as elena smiled before lowering her microphone, satisfied by the girl's response to her question

more questions were asked and distrubuted between the three mclaren drivers before finally, the press conference came to its end. and the three drivers were glad, especially aaliyah since towards the end, the poor girl was really fighting so hard to stay awake. she was truly so exhausted that even that quick power nap she had with oscar wasn't enough to fully keep her awake for the press conference.

thankfully though, by the time the three drivers returned back to their hotel, the three of them walking each other to their separate rooms so they could properly rest up, lando made a quick split decision. it was after he and aaliyah were about to say their final farewell to oscar, ready to shut his hotel room door when lando decided that he'd keep aaliyah company. and that was because he knew that whilst oscar was coming back to his girlfriend lily waiting for him in the hotel room, aaliyah did not have her boyfriend waiting for her.

"...lan, we're here! thanks for walking with me to my room," aaliyah smiled, turning to look back at lando who had a look on his face that she couldn't decipher

especially since he didn't make his move to leave to walk himself back to his room. he just stood there as aaliyah was a little confused before speaking up again.

"lan, don't you need to go back to your room?" aaliyah asked as lando shook his head

"nah, i've got everything i need with me in my bag..." he trailed off as aaliyah giggled softly with a look of confusion

"...what do you mean, lan? what's going on? if you don't think i'm safe, you know i am because you've just walked with me here..." aaliyah trailed off as lando giggled and shook his head

"...i was hoping we could have a sleepover like we used to do when we were kids," lando almost whispered as though he was ashamed as aaliyah's face softened, her smile sweet

"oh...lando...that's completely fine! of course we can! you know i can't say no to having a sleepover with you! why didn't you just say that at the beginning after leaving oscar's room?" aaliyah giggled, finally unlocking the room as they both walked in

lando shrugs his shoulders as aaliyah jumps onto her bed as a small 'oomf' was heard from her impact onto the bed, "i don't know, i thought you said we grew out of them, hence why we slowly stopped doing them..." lando whispered, his face getting warm with embarrassment as aaliyah shook her head

"...not at all lando! we just stopped doing them not because we grew out of them but because we just haven't had the chance to slow down and just take a break to have the opportunity to have a sleepover," aaliyah's voice wasn't teasing or condescending, it was soft and understanding as lando smiled shyly

aaliyah could see that lando was still apprehensive about his idea of having a sleepover after what felt like the longest race weekend ever. when in reality, it was the same length as every other race weekend, it just felt long because the days were as slow as a garden snail.

scooching over on her bed, aaliyah patted the spot next to her for lando to join her. and it only took less than a moment for lando to hesitate before he relented and took off his shoes that were now definitely blistering up his poor feet. joining aaliyah on the bed, it was silence between the two best friends before aaliyah spoke up again.

"driving alongside you and oscar this year, so far, has been incredible, lando. if i could do this forever, i would..." aaliyah sighed, turning her head so she was looking at lando as lando looked worried

"...what do you mean if i could do this forever i would? is there something you're not telling us?" lando freaked out as aaliyah shook her head, immediately settling lando's worry

"oh my gosh, no, lan! not now anyway, i plan to stay in mclaren, in formula one, with you and osc for as long as i possibly can! i just...i know this is something i'll have to eventually leave. i mean, me and [boyfriend] have been talking about the possibility of starting the journey of becoming parents..." aaliyah's voice started to fade out as lando's eyes began to droop

he had forgotten just how exhausted he was since joining aaliyah in her hotel room that for a moment, his exhaustion melted away. that was until it quickly returned and he slowly begun to slide down into the comfort of the hotel bed. and aaliyah couldn't get offended by lando starting to fall asleep to her telling him that she and her boyfriend were planning on starting their family. so, she decided to lift up the quilt and blanket of the bed so lando could attempt to slide himself into it before completely falling asleep. when she saw that lando was comfortable and fully asleep, his snores soft and quiet as his face and every single muscle in his body fully relaxed, she also felt her own exhaustion take over her body. and soon enough, aaliyah had also fallen asleep, her head resting on lando's chest, his heartbeat soothing her into her own deepest sleep.

it was really all too much for little lando norris and aaliyah l.n. the both of them just needing a little bit of sleep.

oh my goodness I've genuinely been rambling into a million people's DMs about all the nuances of this fic so THANK YOU FOR ASKING!!! One of your questions reminds me of a scene that got cut, so scroll to the bottom to check that out!

Obviously, you're more than entitled to imagine your own answer to these questions. If things are left unsaid,, it's not my place to tell you how to read into it. But in my brain:

Will Charles Ever Change?

Probably not.

Charles is a foil to Lando. He's entirely sure of what he wants, he knows how to get it, he's self-assured, and he's obsessed with power. Because he's compared to where Lando starts in the narrative (introspective, quiet, placating, etc.), it's pretty important that Charles doesn't have the self-awareness to recognize that he's a prick.

In my mind, the relationship completely died that night in the club, and Lando buried it in the café.

But could he grow later?

I think that Max and Charles's relationship is inherently doomed to be mutually destructive. I don't think that they're designed to bring out the best in each other (despite it being implied that they're soulmates -- I suppose soulmates don't always have to be for the better). Because they're so absorbed in each other, I don't think that Charles will ever gain the perspective to understand Lando completely. Meaning he probably won't come around to being a real friend.

What Does Oscar Think About Charles?

I've thought a lot about this, since it's implied that Oscar was definitely... watching... Lando lol. Oscar probably has an immense distrust of Charles, if not just for the fact that he radiates a level of danger that triggers most vampires’ basal instincts.

(if you didn't read Excess -- Charles is almost entirely covered in vampire bites, meaning he should trigger Oscar's fight or flight like no other.)

That said, I also think that Oscar has an understanding that Lando and Charles's relationship is more complex than he can pick apart from the outside. I get the feeling that he wants Lando to be with someone safer -- if not just because he loves him -- but that he'd respect any decision he makes on the matter.

Max and Oscar Vibes?

Max is the type of vampire that Oscar loathes. He's blood-drunk and confident in what he is; Max has embraced the life as a gift (barring sometimes missing human sensations), whereas Oscar views it as a curse. Their perspectives on their eternal life is so fundamentally incompatible that it's unlikely they'd ever get along.

Do I think they'd actually full on fight? No.

But I do think that Oscar would be so tense the entire time they interacted that he could crack his teeth.

Deleted (Incomplete) Scene:

Originally, after the confessional in Oscar's flat, I wanted to keep going. The next scene actually had to do with the state of Charles and Lando's relationship, where we learn that Lando hadn't heard from him -- and that he hadn't reached out, either. We get the impression that the relationship was completely dead, severed.

"I haven't talked to Charles since I told him to leave," Lando says mindlessly, sliding Oscar's cup in front of his usual seat. He grabs it and draws in a deep breath, the memories of caffeine doing little to alleviate the blue under his eyes. "D'you miss him?" Did he really know him well enough to? Lando shrugs. "Y'know how you kinda, like… miss something because it's over, not because you actually wanted it to keep going?" Oscar nods along, eyes fluttering closed – relaxed. "End of an era." "Era makes it sound like a good thing," Lando chuckles, tilting his head when Oscar raises a brow in silent question. "Nothing good about it then? At all?" In the daylight, they slowly peel apart each other's layers, step gently into the shadows they carry. Lando hasn't asked how much Oscar had gleaned about his and Charles's relationship, if he recognized him as a riptide feigning gentleness. The wounds felt too fresh, the mistakes too recent, and yet. "I'm…" He starts uncertainly. Oscar doesn't open his eyes, doesn't move – like waiting for Lando is easy. The years in Charles's orbit feel like a blur, like watching events that happened to someone else. They're a book with ink that fades with each page – starting bold in its desperation, ending weakly in its passive acceptance. "Not good enough to remember," Lando finally answers, and Oscar drops his brow. "I probably wouldn't have been better without him, I guess. Like, I would have ended up somewhere… different but similar, just with someone else. Might as well have been him, if it had to be someone." Need you more than anything else on earth. Because at least Charles sometimes put a word to that cold, lonely spot between Lando's ribs. Or maybe prodded at it like a contusion, dark and hideous and violent. But he saw it all the same. Shaking his head, clearing it away, Lando changes the subject. "What about you? Do you still talk to anyone from…" He trails off, lips frozen around the word: before. Opening his eyes and putting down his cup, Oscar stares down into it. Pensive. But he promised to try. Lando can see the weary determination in the pressed line of his pale lips – maybe the same wherewithal that keeps his fangs tucked safely out of sight. "I text my family, so they don't think anything's wrong." It leaves a lot unsaid. Lando let's the unspoken fill the time and space between them, resting his back against the counter. Until Oscar looks up at him, eyes finding his own like how Lando always imagined coming home should be – easy. "But everyone else, it's…" A sigh, agitated fingers combing through flat hair. "Complicated." He aims for reassuring. "I know," Oscar averts his gaze anyway. "I quit my job." It's that same tone, that same pinched anguish that evokes memories of tears he can no longer shed. "D'you miss it?" "It's all I ever wanted to be, I –" His throat cuts him off, painfully tight. Lando wonders, not for the first time, how beautiful his emotions would be with the flush of life. And he wonders, anew, if Oscar can feel the difference. Shaking, small: "They were so proud of me." Between beats of his bleeding heart, Lando wonders what that feels like. "You're still the same person though," Lando tries, stopping when Oscar buries his face in his hands, elbows propped up on the counter. "'m not." "You are –" Fiery enough to burn, even muffled through his hands: "Would you want a fucking monster to help you?" "Already did." Lando smiles like a gotcha, flashing his wrist for emphasis. Oscar must sense it, peeking between his fingers. "Almost like you're still you, huh?"
