The reality is FAR more complex than either of those arguments, and varies greatly depending on the trans person, the situation, and a whole heap of other factors.

Personally, I absolutely do benefit from male privilege in many scenarios. I passed a solid 75% of the time (as long as I didn't talk) even before starting T. And after over 4 years on T? Yeah, no one thinks I'm a trans man unless I bring it up first. And honestly, it VERY rarely comes up in everyday life. I'm legitimately perceived as a trans woman more often than a trans man.

So yeah, in day to day life I have male privilege. I can go for a walk or run at night without worrying. I can crowd surf at metal shows without fear that some dickhead's gonna grope me. I can leave my drink at the table and go piss without having to find a trusted friend to watch it like a hawk. Other men don't question me when I state something as a fact they just believe me. Pre-T that almost NEVER happened, I had to argue and justify EVERYTHING.

I also had to fight 5 different doctors who wanted to pull me off T for months for an invasive egg retrieval process on the off chance I decide I want biological kids despite me being aromantic, asexual, and horrified at the thought of pregnancy. So I definitely don't have the same kind of privilege as a cis man.

I'm also VERY aware that my experience is NOT universal. Plenty of trans men can't go on T, or simply don't want to. Plenty of trans men will go on T but still won't pass as cis men. Plenty of trans men don't WANT to pass as cis men. None of them are likely to benefit from male privilege, certainly not to the extent I do.

There's also trans men out there who benefit from male privilege even more frequently than I do. I present quite androgynously. I can't grow a proper beard. I am sometimes mistaken for a trans woman (maybe 20% of the time, especially when I have my hair down and just after I shave). Some trans men have full beards and present in a more traditionally masculine way, and thus are exclusively perceived as cis men.

Anyway, ultimate point, there is no universal measure for whether trans men benefit from male privilege, or how often they do. Trans men are not a monolith, and have VASTYLY different experiences to eachother. One trans man may have almost as much access to male privilege as a cis man. Another trans man may have never benefited from male privilege in his life. There's no hard and fast rule you can apply.

No, it fucking IS unreasonable! I'm not gonna agree that I have some form of privilege I don't have any meaningful access to in reality. Acting as if I have male privilege would be directly dangerous for me, I'm not gonna do that, neither in the general society nor in the trans community.

I figure Kevin will be doing most of the talking at Jean's request, but the interviewer gets sick of it and basically tells Kevin to let Jean get a word in edgeways - making Kevin look like he's hogging the limelight (and not protecting his friend). I can see that really shaking Kevin's confidence, especially because he won't know how to protect Jean from questions without proving the interviewer's point.

Jean will no doubt say something that is wildly misconstrued, or is so blunt that it cannot be taken any other way.

I do think that Kevin's comment about never skiing is going to come back and bite them hard. Kevin will be stuck between trying to play coy and telling the truth. Coy and he's hiding something - the truth and he's smearing Riko's name. Jean will likely get pissed off with the line of questioning and either shut it down rudely, or just tell the truth for him. Bonus points if he takes off his shirt and shows them what Riko did to him because that would stop anyone dead in their questioning.

(Bonus bonus points for "If you do not believe me, have Neil tell you the truth about his 'trial run' over Christmas last year." This would not only be damning about Riko, but would also upset the "truths" they just gave the FBI.)

I don't think one of them will slip up and say that Riko was killed, I think they're not going to let that slip, because that's an immediate death sentence. There would be no way Nora could write them out of that that would be believable.

I also don't think that Jean's family coming under investigation re: Nathan Wesninski will come up. I don't think that the FBI would just let that information get leaked. I don't think that France extradites citizens to the US so there wouldn't be any "international arrest news" to derail things, and unless France is interested in arresting and trying the Moreau faction and trying them there, there's not a whole ton that could come up in the news to clash with things. (BUT this is also a piece of fiction, Nora could change how that works for the sake of the story, and that's perfectly fine!)

Okay no you know what? I’ve held my tongue on this for long enough (everyone in my life knows my opinion on this topic) - I have a very deep beef with chain restaurants changing their soft pretzels as if that isn’t a direct personal attack against me, specifically. First it was Applebees beer cheese and pub pretzels like 5 years ago. They used to look like this:

This switch happened around the same time Applebees added breadsticks w/ Alfredo dipping sauce to their list of appetizers. When I tell you that these things are just straight up the breadsticks with a spray tan. I’m not sure if the breadstick flavor made the beer cheese taste like Alfredo, if they mistakenly gave me Alfredo sauce, or if they straight up replaced the beer cheese with Alfredo sauce. I can tell you that I tried it at two different locations (hoping the second would have the old ones) and then swore off Applebees forever.

But you wanna know a recent, even more heinous soft pretzel betrayal? Monk’s Bar & Grill. I don’t think I’ll even have to explain this one. Here’s the old pretzel option:

About to lose my shit over my shitty Algebra teacher cause i think he’s the devil incarnate cause he doesn’t respect kid’s 504 plans, there is this kid who may not always show up to class on time for some reason im not sure why but they try their best to catch up and work hard and they asked to send over and take the recent test they missed in a certain classroom and he was like “No you cant, you have to show up tomorrow in here to take it” when literally in their 504 plan says they can take it in that room no one can force them to take it in their classroom, but DOES HE CARE??? NOOOOOO. I think he was just trying to be tough or smth god knows what cause he has a huge ass power complex like dear god dude we get it you were a army guy but is yelling at teens really what you wanna do to feel that high of power again?? The kid then complained to the school and he got a ass whooping but sadly not fired and then the next day was pissed as hell and took it out on all of us 😍

Im really debating like cussing him out Thursday after my final cause i cant just walk away and act like it was a okay class no he needs to get fucking humbled at least see what he does is harmful and shitty and douchey.
