Too many people relate the ocean to sunshine and summer and relaxation and… that’s just not it.
I mean no hate if that’s what it means to you, and maybe it’s the fact that I AM an ocean child, my family is from the sea and we came to this country across it, but I can just never relate the ocean to an ice cream and a pool floatie.
To me the ocean is wild. It is danger. It is freedom. It is tasting the edge and knowing that not everyone can come back from it. It is swimming as far out the bay as you can when you’re twelve because you’re just so enchanted by the water and what it promises, only to realise that you’ve drifted far from where your family was. It is promises and secrets and treasure. It is alluring, a siren in the back of my mind, calling to me. It is hooked deep into who I am and I know that I can never come back from that.
The ocean is restless and she cares for no one any more than she has to. She would willingly drag me down ti her depths and never let me go, and that just makes me love her more. The ocean is in my heart.
The ocean, the sea, the waves that crash on the rocks in the storm, that rush up up up over the sand banks and into the town. That isn’t a being that is intrinsically tied to sunlight and fruit and sun tans.
Have you never stood on the cliffs, or the end of the pier, and felt the waves crashing below and the salt spray fly onto your face? Have you never felt the tug of a current, or stayed on the shore even as the tide comes up to your legs, then up to the harbour wall? Have you never stepped into her fierce embrace and wished to never leave?
The ocean is restless, yes, and wild, and dangerous. She will be tamed by nobody.

Unlikely Meeting
In the clearing, where the air hums soft,
The unicorn stood, white as cloud breath,
Slim in the twilight's fading light,
Her horn a braid of gold and earth.
Then it appeared- gleaming metal and spark,
An android, crafted with hands, not born.
They stared, unsure of what to see,
Nature's wild heart and human's dream,
Each so foreign, yet strangely near.
Their gazes met, a pulse of knowing,
Confusion danced like winds in leaves.
Can love exist between code and flesh,
Between roots and circuits, stars, and trees?
In that silent space they lingered,
Wondering if God had crossed their paths,
If love was more than they could grasp.
Still, they stayed, lost in each other's pull,
As though divinity whispered, "This is full."

I saw my dead brother in the eyes of a unicorn
12/11/23, 7:40 AM
My brother died
Long before I could stride
But I remembered his eyes,
Brown and wide,
As he died before mine
When he left for the forest
And never returned again
When Mother said,
"G-d took him before his time,"
I never wondered why
She cut the old hen's head
Before her chick's eyes
When Father said,
"G-d let a good man die,"
I never wondered why
He gave me the knife
To skin the doe whose only crime
Was to be alive
Father said it was my time
To finally become a man,
To keep our family alive,
So I took the rifle to the forest
With the resolve to end
The first creature I saw
But my heart thumped
At the flash of white,
A horn that shone bright,
And a silhouette larger than I—
We would eat well tonight
I raised the gun
Only to meet
Its eyes,
Brown and wide,
Staring into mine
From my hands, the rifle fell
And let out a shot,
The birds flew off
But the unicorn did not
It raised its head
And pushed me down,
A hoof burning a mark into my chest
"This is not where your story heads,"
My brother's voice said,
Regal and powerful,
Just like a king to servant—
"You are not destined for the life
Our father has lead,
You are no man, but gentle maiden instead"
Questions ran through my head,
But another shot rang out instead—
And silver blood poured from the unicorn's neck
As my father cried
"I told you to never come back again"
I watched the light
Leave my brother's eyes
And listened as the forest
Cried through the night
For the loss of such a beautiful life
My father left him to rot
And told me to continue my hunt,
So I did as he said
And picked up my rifle again,
The metal hot and heavy in shaking hands,
Ready to become a man
But as night became day,
I found no prey
And returned to my father
A failure instead
He turned red in the face
And began to rage,
Then sent me running into the forest
With the words,
"Don't come back
Until you are finally a man,"
Ringing in my head
But as I ran,
I began to laugh,
As feet turned to hooves,
As hair flowed to mane,
As a horn grew between my bangs—
I was never to be a man,
But woman instead
I ran to my brother's resting place,
Embracing my beautiful change,
To find more like me,
Laughing and lamenting,
Dancing around my brother
As they wished him peace
And accepted me

I won’t ask myself why I love you.
There’s no question to that. You’re sunlight in human form; radiant and comforting. You welcome people with open arms, letting them know that it’s safe with you. That it always was. Your energy feeds others, and yet you never once thought of wanting anything in return.
But I’ll ask why you love me.
Everyone else has already accepted the fact that I’m a monster. And I understand why, yet at the same time, I don’t. They made me this way. I’ve only done what I have to survive, to make it just another day in this world. A world that has rejected me time and time again, that has proven that I shouldn’t care for it, as it doesn’t care for me.
So why do you care for me?
Why do you, so glorious and bright, look at me and decide that I deserve your love?
Is it a trick? A ruse? Are you only trying to get me to let my guard down, only to hurt me once again?
All I’ve been is condemned, and yet you don’t understand why.
You forgave me.
I don’t know why you would, but you did.
Mildly inspired by this
