Who’s that metallic hot girl vision. What’s their story

that's ultimate vision! they're from the ultimate universe and genuinely other than miles they're the only good thing to happen there! she's introduced in ultimate vision #0 which isn't very good because it's by mark millar but ultimate vision #1 - #5 by mike carey is great. they end up falling in love with sam wilson n i think abt it a lot.

vision is essentially a silver surfer type character in the ultimates, except they go around to each world to warn them of galactus (gal lak tus for some reason?) coming, and to learn all of their cultures and languages and ways so that even in destruction, they could be remembered by at least one being. it's not until they fall in love with sam, and jean convinces them to stay in ultimate extinction #4 and #5 (set after #0 of ultimate vision but before the 1-5 of that series) that they try to fight galactus.

anyway some other shit happens and vision isn't there until cataclysm #000.1, where vision is now living with sam, but galactus of earth 616 comes and kills ults!vision. she gives a speech and i'm not gonna write it out because it's so good but genuinely makes me emotional every time i read it. anyway definitely worth checking out, if the MCU was going to take so much inspiration from the ultimates they should have given me this vision with sam wilson it would have been amazing. rip ultimates vision gone but not forgotten babygirl.

that part in sea of blood where the game is soft tutorializing you on the sunder mechanic as the elite rogue venatori enemy shows up for the first time and lucanis' reaction is sooooo..... 'mierda. these guys'. see this is why he's the funniest and also most endearing character ever made. he really does sound softly, tiredly mildly exasperated in a way so wildly out of proportion with the situation at hand. a knife dude from the secret society slash cult that's been horrifically torturing him for a year just popped out of the woodwork, and the tone of lucanis' voice in response is reminiscent of nothing so much as a man who's just realized the office printer is out of ink again and whose resigned little sigh in response conveys with perfect good-natured clarity to everyone else working late alongside him that he is a bit annoyed but like not at any of them. 'we're in this together' his tone seems to say. fuckass printer and all. I'll go fetch some new cartridges. I'm getting coffee along the way does anyone else want anything while I'm there. he has the most companionable effortlessly comforting and innately hilarious presence of anyone who's ever lived even running through the failing forcefield personal trauma horror prison of all time at the bottom of the ocean. his day job is murder. he met rook and co literally half an hour ago and already these are the vibes, starting as they mean to go on.

So In the original X-Men comic where Magneto appeared, before any kind of civil rights metaphor was a glimmer in anyone's eye, he was doing a fairly unnuanced "Bow-before-me" routine, seizing control of nuclear missiles because he was a supervillain and that's what you do. In the original Ultimate X-Men by Mark Millar they reproduced that basic dynamic in the first six-issue arc (although not with nuclear missiles, but something equally high-collateral and terroristic.) He had much more of an express ideology there- a very simplistic 2edgy4me blanket misanthropy about humans, tinged with malthusian ecoterrorist vibes- in a way that harkened back to the cartoonish completely unsympathetic and unnuanced silver-age faire while also gesturing in the direction of a guy with enough of a party line to build a global cult following around. This was deliberately incompatible with an eventual claremontian face-turn but it was something.

Anyway I think a lot of people want Magneto to be a hero or at least an anti-hero these days (understandable, he has a very cool helmet) and so for a while I've been thinking about how and if you could hybridize all these beats. I think it's doable. I think you could build a version of Magneto where him stealing a bunch of nuclear missiles from the government is framed as basically morally neutral at worst, honestly kind of a lateral move, where it's more about not letting toddlers touch the hot stove. Magneto who's magneto less out of identitarian mutant supremacy and more in a way where he's exhausted with the human condition and fully convinced that the only way the children are going to stop stealing each other's lunch money is if someone with the requisite power (I.E. him) makes them stop. (In a way that functionally wraps back around to mutant supremacy, but that's not the explicit party line). A guy who'd intervene in the same way Daredevil or Spider-Man would if he saw someone getting mugged or threatened, who then immediately turns around and bloodlessly steals an entire bank vault to fund his asteroid house, because he's not about to take a moral lecture on the sanctity of property from fucking Goldman-Sachs. A guy who's pissed at Xavier at least in part because if he had globe-spanning psychic powers the world certainly wouldn't still look like this. Do you see my vision.

i hope lena bosko comes back. i hope she has a girlfriend or a wife. i hope they run into eddie. i hope when they’re catching up, lena asks if he and buck ever figured their shit out and when eddie says “wdym, i’m not gay” she gives him the most incredulous look of all time but says “oh, ok, my bad” and they go their separate ways on friendly terms. i hope that look haunts eddie until he finally has his oh moment
