hi so it’s been a WHILE. uhhhh rewatched challengers for the thousandth time and it broke me out of my writers block! i don’t know how im going to continue w this, so feel free to drop any ideas and ill add it to the lore 😈 note: series prob isn’t gonna end with any smut scene bc im incapable of writing one without it sounding stupid asf! but who knows, you might be surprised

cw: 1.4k words,,, art and reader are dating but fighting, set in stanford era, tashi is NOT injured, patashi, hints of reader crushing on tashi but repressing it, fighting, tensiontensionTENSION! basically everyone is friends with one another but they all want each other BAD. lmk what else i should add :)

“it’s complicated.” that’s what you say every time someone asks you what your relationship with art donaldson is. and it’s true— you guys are fiery, but not explosive. complex, but not convoluted. it’s just… strange. intricate. hence, complicated.

you think he’d probably say the same thing, but there’s no real way to know, since you can’t exactly ask. the two of you aren’t on speaking terms right now, and for the same reason you two stopped talking last time, and the time before that.

art donaldson can’t split his time between his girlfriend and his fucking best friend’s girlfriend. and you can recite the argument quite well, maybe even word for word; it’s still fresh in your mind, engraved there.

“c’mon, you can’t just keep ditching me for her. it’s annoying, and it hasn’t just happened once or twice, you know.”

“i know.” art sighed, a hand tangled in his hair as if to ground himself. your name fell from his lips, voice cracking midway. “what do you want me to do? she needed help with her physics homework.”

“she can get one of her fucking groupies to help her! she’s a big girl, she doesn’t need to rely on you.” the way you said it, mocking and condescending, was mean, and you know it. you don’t hate tashi— you can’t even bring yourself to dislike her. but it hurts every single time you text art on your motorola and get hit back with some half-assed variation of ‘helping tashi. sry :( i’ll come later.’ he never actually shows up at ‘later’, which only rubs salt in the wound.

art’s jaw ticked. his eyebrows furrowed and eyes darkened in a way you’d only seen once before, when someone was talking shit about tashi in the cafeteria. you had watched as she calmly reassured art that is was fine, that he needed to relax, but he only shook his head and clenched his fists. in that moment, you wondered if he ever got that angry if he overheard someone talking about you. you now doubt it.

“don’t talk about her like that.” he said it calmly, but your skin still prickled. “she’s an accomplished lady. what about you? what have you done?”

if you sounded condescending before, it was nothing compared to how he sounded then. you scoffed away the sinking feeling in your stomach, blinked back the sting in your eyes. there was a lot you could have said to him then: ‘i might not be half as good at tennis as she is, but that’s less embarrassing than being second-best to her boyfriend.’ or ‘i didn’t compete for her number and lose.’ hell, even a good ‘fuck you’ would have sufficed.

instead, you just stood there, frozen, as he grabbed his stanford sweatshirt and left.

when you tell the story to patrick, he laughs, and doesn’t stop laughing until you jab him with your elbow, effectively knocking the oxygen out of him. his hands raise in mock surrender before speaking. “sorry, it’s just funny to see him get like this, i guess.”

you frown. “what’s that supposed to mean?”

“i mean that he likes you, but he likes tashi. i know it, tashi knows it, and from what i heard on the walk here—” he gestures vaguely towards the door to your dorm, “—the school knows it, too. i dunno, i guess it’s amusing ‘cause art has never been so disturbed about this kind of shit. usually he just picks the girl he likes best, but he can’t.”

“you mean he can’t because you’re dating her.”

patrick smirks his signature smirk. you have the urge to punch his teeth out; vagueness is beginning to be a pet peeve of yours. “no, i’ve told him that tashi is free reign.”

the way your stomach flutters at that is shameful. you push the feeling away. “like, you guys aren’t..?”

patrick shrugs. “i mean, currently she hates me because i said i’d go to her match yesterday and i missed it.” these guys really need to stop promising us stuff, you think. “but yeah, when she isn’t pissed off, we’re dating, and we talk about it. ‘bout you guys. she doesn’t really care if the two of you make moves on either one of us.”

you don’t say anything, but your ears feel warm, and your heart is about to explode out of your chest. it doesn’t help when patrick takes that as a sign to keep talking and says—

“i don’t care either.” it suddenly hits you, the closeness between you and him. close enough that you can smell his cologne, one typical of a rich frat boy you’d pass by in the halls. but it feels different, with him. patrick’s smirk has shifted into a grin, a big one. you realize he’s been gauging your reaction, and is thoroughly pleased.

“oh,” you breathe. he snickers, repeats it back playfully. you don’t understand how he’s so relaxed, able to make light-hearted jabs in this moment. art likes you and tashi. tashi doesn’t care if he likes her, or if you like her. patrick doesn’t either. but where do you stand in this?

your phone jingles, the sound muffled from the blood roaring in your ears. you don’t know if you should thank or curse out whoever decided to call you at this second, but you excuse yourself to answer. patrick nods begrudgingly, backs up enough for you to have room to finally start to inhale and exhale again. “hello?”

“hey.” it’s art on the phone. impulsively, you look around, as if he’s hiding somewhere in the dorm he marched out of a few days ago.

holy fuck. “hey!” you sound too cheery to your own ears, and hope that over the line it sounds more convincing. you hear a sigh on the other end, and can imagine art physically loosen. “what, uh— i thought you were mad. at me.”

patrick perks up. ‘art?’ he mouths, and you nod. he attempts to come closer, but you swat at him, moving a few steps away. he pulls a face, but doesn’t move closer. still, he’s definitely trying to hear what art is saying.

“i was.” art laughs nervously, the sound tinny over the phone. “but you’re right. i fucked up. tashi… she isn’t my girl. i need to pay more attention to you, and that’s gonna happen starting now.”

she isn’t my girl. “she could be,” you think aloud. you tense. art chokes. patrick stifles a laugh.

“what?” you pray that he didn’t hear it. you had mumbled it, whispered it, there’s a chance it didn’t pick up. art says your name one, two, three times before you respond.

“sorry, i just zoned out a little.”

“no, you said something. baby, what’d you say?”

“i said ‘you should be’. like, you should be paying more attention, dumb joke, i was trying to sound threatening,” you slap your free hand against your lips to stop your word vomit, then your forehead as you reprimand yourself for acting so stupid.

art hums. “oh, okay.” it should relieve some on the tension in your shoulders, but it doesn’t. he usually laughs when you fluster, but he didn’t. is he unconvinced, or are you overthinking? “hey, tomorrow can you come to my practice at noon? we can go to the cafeteria after, i’ve got wayyy too many meal credits.”

you look to patrick for help, but he shrugs, enjoying the moment. “sure.”

art says his goodbyes, goes ‘mwah!’ through the phone (which usually makes you laugh, but now you feel bad), and once you say bye, he hangs up.

“i’ll go to his practice, too.” it’s never a question with patrick (or with tashi); he just lets you know. “tashi’ll be there. she’s always on the court when she’s free.” you find it endearing that he knows her schedule.

“tashi.” you like the way her name rolls off your tongue, but you’d rather die than admit it.

before you can say anything else, patrick walks over, swings an arm around your shoulders and pulls you close. “don’t forget about what i said.” his breath smells like spearmint gum, the type art is always chewing. maybe he gave him a piece. “just think on it, yeah?”

you nod, and he pats your cheek before walking out the door, leaving you feeling dazed. after a few moments of just laying on your bed, soaking in the conversation you just had, your phone dings.

1. okay so the king is. yeah idk why I trusted him when I should've logically understood that the guy has absolutely no idea about the previous convos we had. it does make me wonder whether I could've changed his mind by asking EVERYTHING and gifting him th flower all over again but. Isabeau is soooo perceptive I luv him. my aversion to the crush has gotten slightly better the more Siffrin is reciprocating it and the less I'm thinking of Siffrin as Guy I'm Playing As (the more I think of them as A Character and not An Avatar, is what I mean). so I'm growing to appreciate him a lot more he's my fave guy. truly so cool. I get him. if nobody got me I know my man isabeau got me. he's my best friwnd.

6. fuck okay where was i. anyway everyone's reacting differently the more time passes and I think it's bc Siffrin is having such an astronomically bad fucking time it's transcending time. i feel like if I were in a room with them I'd just DIE I'd just say fuck this stupid baka life and drop to the ground and never move again from how rancid their vibes are. Siffrin is having the worst time anyone's ever had and I feel so sorry for him I hope I can at the very least lead him well enough he'll TALK to ANYONE(other than loop) about ANYTHING or else.

(I feel like talking to Loop is not very helpful bc Loop is just THEM but WORSE. like they already had their worst life. This ended up so much longer than I anticipated ( ﾟAﾟ )

Okay okay okay I need to explain a lil thing real quick. Tang Sanzang (Tripitaka) did not torture Wukong, at least not intentionally. There was a really good post about it somewhere on here, but I cant seem to find it so I'll explain what I can.

First off, Tripitaka was the main character of the story, and while he had some flaws (ex: listening to Bajie too much), he was a good man, and would never want to torture any of his deciples, no matter how annoying they'd get. He's a Buddhist monk afterall, there's a whole no violence thing.

The golden circlet/crown was given to Tripitaka by Guanyin to act as a way to punish Wukong for things he does wrong. Think about it for a moment. Remember, Wukong was just released from under a mountain after terrorizing the entire celestial realm, becoming 7 times immortal (I think it was that many), fighting all the celestial armies, peeing on Buddah's hand. After being released, Wukong promptly killed a tiger and skinned it so he could use the skin as clothes.

SO YEAH, obviously Tripitaka would take her up on a crown that would give the monkey really bad headaches!!! (Reciting a specific scripture I forgot makes the crown shrink, but it doesn't kill Wukong because he's very super immortal).

Now the thing is, yes, he did use the spell on Wukong multiple times when Wukong had done nothing wrong, but a lot of those were because Bajie told him Wukong did something wrong, or he just didn't have all the facts. Now, I haven't read the Journey to the West either, and most of my knowledge comes from the Overly Sarcastic Productions videos summarizing the story (which you should watch, btw), so I dont have all the facts, nor do I have a perfect knowledge of the parts of the story I do know, however I am confident that Tripitaka did not intentionally tourture or abuse Wukong. I mean, Wukong cut off his own head once for fun, so idk what else to say, my guy.

Do I think that using the migrane spell is the most moral thing to do? No. Was the spell the only way to get Wukong to cooperate? At the very start, very possibly yes. Later? I'mnot sure. Is Tripitaka a bad guy for using it as much as he does? No, he didn't know better. Are the Wukong girlies wayyy to obsessed with angst? Yes, so very much. I fear for them.

It was not the point of the story for Tripitaka to be abusive. The story was meant to be symbolic. Each of the pilgrims symbolized a part of a person. Tripitaka was the heart, Wukong the mind, Zhu Bajie the body, Bai Longma the will, and Sha Wujing the emotions. (There are some lovely people on this hellsite who can explain the symbolism better than me, so you can go look into that if it interests you.)

All in all, every one of the pilgrims were pretty stupid (affectionate) in their own ways, and I hate seeing people hate on Tripitaka soecifically when the story is so ridiculous a lot of the time. I just love these silly little guys, and I think we need to remember that they are very silly. Tripitaka never meant to be cruel to Wukong just as in lmk Wukong and Macaque never meant to be cruel to each other in their past. All these idiots are pretty bad at communicating, and Tripitaka is incredibly socially awkward. Man doesn't know how friends work.

I just think we should cut him some slack for the mistakes he made. Yall forgave Wukong for all his chaos and bloodshed, so I think it'd just be fair to forgive Tripitaka for not really comprehending having hurt Wukong.

Anyways, I'll shut up now. I'm excited to hear the ramblings of you two nerds ♡♡♡♡

5.) additionally, sam said they died nearly 20 years ago. this would put their deaths around 2004-2005. i dont know if this has any significance (though im sure somehow it might) but the extended support for windows n.t 4.0 extended server support supposedly ended December 31st, 2004. probably means nothing though, someone who knows about computers tell me more what that means

6.) NEVER MIND THAT! MY BABYGIRLS ARE BACK?

7.) i do wonder how they feed into this ESPECIALLY basira. im very intrigued by helen as well. i cant even form thoughts on what might be going on with them.

8.) this lends a bit more to the celia multiverse theory, but i wonder how many names shes going to “find in documents” before sam gets suspicious.

9.) i also noticed something in the last episode- when sam says “i can look out for myself” i remember there being a computer interruption. this complicated how i, at least, understand the system because i believed the interruptions were queued by just regular old lies- the character themselves says something untrue. however, this points more towards the computers acting as a ruler of objective truth. the computers decide what is and is not untrue, rather then the characters. meaning while WE understand its a lie and believe the characters do as well, that could not be the case. this is much more interesting to me, because if this is true, it could add a whole other layer to the celia situation.

10.) gwen and alice. 1.) give my babygirl gwen a break for the love of GOD but 2.) someone else said it on here first, and i really like the idea that theres going to be two “teams” of people in this show- sam and celia, who want to know more about the magnus institute, and gwen and alice, who are convinced that theyre under attack via the externals, or something else. this could be so incredibly interesting for character interaction. but also. the. the lesbians of all time?? the wlw of all time?? i need them TO KISS PLEASE (i also need to add alice’s mug to my collection)

"It can be," Schneep says slowly. "Is there anything else?"

"I dunno. I'm still restless. Either the new ADHD meds aren't kicking in yet or that's weird. I'm also, like... not tired. Even though I know I should be sleeping more. For health reasons and such."

Are you eating enough? JJ asks.

"I don't know," Jackie says again. "Maybe not. I keep forgetting to."

Jameson and Henrik exchanged concerned glances. Well, voices, there's that, apparently, Jameson says. But I've been fine.

"Yes, more or less the same here." Henrik nods. "But now I am worried for Jackie."

anonymous sent . . . Exactly for that reason Miguel coming back makes no sense. Let's say he keeps disliking Jin and still wants revenge. Everyone else has forgiven him already. The story focused on redemption, so eventually, they might as well make Miguel rethink his actions and go "Yeah OK you're happy now forget about it". Which makes his original purpose as a character pointless. Either way it's not as easy as the Jin haters are making it out to be. If they bring Miguel back they will have to do a lot of mental gymnastics

Literally. That's likely why Miguel wasn't in the base roster despite being a fairly popular character. It's just really hard to incorporate him into the story they're telling. Especially when uhhhh... The Tek writers didn't even do the best job at handling Jin's "redemption" :') So, they'd probably struggle to add Miguel in even more. And I dunno what other bonus chapters they're planning on having in the future, but the one they're dropping in autumn is gonna be set during TK8, not after... so yeah... it's just gonna be really hard to put Miguel there. Jin's been forgiven, and has many pals now lol.

I wouldn't know how I'd incorporate Miguel in because well... y'all know me, I'm not exactly happy with Tek8's story, or Jin's characterization ever since Tek6. So I'd be redoing many things haha. But like, I only see three things the writers themselves would do if they did add Miguel and that's

1: Seemingly like Eddy, a lot of Miguel's hatred and need for revenge will just happen "off screen" or in a quick flashback. Miguel will just... not care for revenge and instead work on himself or whatever.

2: It's like that shitpost I just posted, Miguel will try to confront Jin... only to end up forgiving him for some fucking reason.

3: Miguel will only return after Reina becomes the Main Villain, therefore Miguel will be one of the characters on "Team Reina" opposing the good guys, solely because he wants revenge.

And also thank youuu! ^_^ It's funny 'cos I went thru so many different kind of headers whilst trying to decide on a new one, and then I FINALLY just decided to use the Tag 2 art 'cos it can't be beat! Even though I LUVED the scene in TK8 with Big Devil looking down on Tiny Jin with that wicked grin ... I just wanted something that wasn't a gif as my header. 👍

SPOILER first thoughts on SGE film pt 1

this will be in bullet point but will be quite wordy, and it's just part 1. also not proofread so fair warning! first time giving Actual Opinions and it's just me spitballing but anyone can take it as they wish

listened to the first 4 songs on the OST when it was released, and after watching the movie, the OST still SLAPS

brutal, however, does not slap. as much as I love olivia rodrigo, brutal did not need to be there. and when the ending was okay, the accompanying modern music definitely ruined the okayness. couldn’t stand the credits and I watched all of it hshshsjks

costumes overall are so good. some were questionable (that initial theory that Agatha's poofy pink-purple dress in the trial by tale was early on in the movie and that it represented her not fitting into good that well yet? I believed that, and yea I don’t think it's symbolising anything now), choices in the makeup department are also questionable (hello Sophie nude lip, cannot get over you + never!Tedros facial scars??) - but overall, loved them I swear. Beatrix and Millicent were my favourites

somehow the characters were more… underdeveloped in the movie than they were in the books. a typical and forgivable choice yes, but why add new *characters* for certain one-liners when you could’ve just given them to the existing, underdeveloped ones?? (Chaddick, hi, I’m so sorry. you too Reena, Anadil)

uhhhh story progression. or rather, story fragments they chose to take away that I find are actually important to understand the twist later on? i.e. the whole nemesis thing and the Good and Evil rules. - like yes I totally get that they wanted to be subtle, that they wanted the viewers to be like “oh wow I totally forgot about that” but MAN. people will not remember smth that just seems like ordinary Dovey Being Good. and the nemesis dreams & symptoms weren’t even mentioned! from a non-fan’s perspective, that one wart was nothing. I dunno I dunno but the impact just wasn’t there

speaking of important lines. actually so disappointed “you were beautiful all along” didn’t make it. I understand why they didn’t dwell on it as it would make the [already 2.5hr long] movie dragging but there probably was some other way that I cannot cite right now

that said, I guess they really wanted to shift the message of the books? from messages about inner beauty and breaking standards, it’s really now focused on their friendship and that gray area between good and evil. which is nice in its own way

hahaaaa I did expect that a lot of class scenes would be cut, but erm. we literally only get 3 classes, and one wasn’t that useful. really thought they’d change the coffin scene into smth else that conveyed the message but guess not. again, dragging movie concerns

how could I forget the point of Sophie being Evil. or was she really? Gavaldon Sophie wasn’t that bad. in fact, she seemed like every other teenage girl until she came to the school. her Evil started to show there at least, esp in Room 66 - but that full 180 with Hester. I did not like that. how did they go from Sophie almost killing both Hester and her demon to Hester suddenly being okay with a truce through facials?? just because Sophie got a haircut?? and started being… less princess-looking? please

I’m aware I’m being too critical and nitpicky now so here are some things I liked

I've mentioned the OST and the costumes BUT OH the set! we've seen it all in stills and trailers but it really is as magical <3 kudos to the set design & production team!!!

Gregor Charming. cute. when I saw/heard his name, I remembered seeing it on the OST but I hadn’t listened to it yet. I liked the short character buildup, comedic timings and all, and actually showing the viewers how messed up the school can be with his “expulsion”. also it makes the whole Tedros killing the just-mogrified stymph even more jarring for Agatha

Tagatha! adorable babies. I liked their friendship. definitely the same, if not a little more than what was shown in the books. you can really see how Agatha gets comfortable with him, as does Tedros - cute inside jokes. love that. AND A KISS - I cackled when Tedros said he loved Agatha at the ball. It was a very book!Tedros move and I approve

Trial by Tale was fair. it’s made more minor and more swift but the point was taken across

First impression

I always liked hunter from the very beginning, as early as knowing he was the guy introduced next to belos in the s1 finale, i just was curious to know more about this weird teenager belos had clearly given special treatment to. I was already interested in belos as a character so seeing hunter was already leaving me curious because of that alone.

I didn't know what he would be about till he showed up, but i was a fan before he got popular, cause he didn't until ep 6.

Impression now

Still love him, think he's probably one of the best additions to the series as a whole, he's constantly intriguing and interesting and has some of the most interesting drama in the series, his connection with belos adds to him as a villian and hunter is just well written overall.

Honestly baffles me when people either think he's awful or boring, ect ect.

Most people who say this stuff, kinda just seem like they don;t understand his character at all? that or they're biased.

Even if he's not your thing i think there's good reason ppl quickly got attached to him.

The way they managed to make him understandable and sympathetic even when he's technically working for the villain just works so well.

Favorite moment

Honestly i do love his scene with luz in HP when they just talk about things and he admits he's powerless and wants to be free, it's just a nice small scene and his interactions with her are so cute.

His fight scenes are also glorious.

Hmmm, what is an unpopular opinion about hunter? I feel the majority agrees on the same stuff.

I....don't think he needs to change his name, or that he even needs to be a clawthrone either. Even if belos did name him after his job role, hunter does not automatically need to change it to something else, witch hunting is not his identity and it never was, hunter doesn't even know what a witch hunter really is.

If he wants to change it, sure, but he doesn't NEED to.

And ppl really want eda to adopt him but the show currently doesn't at least feel like it's setting that up, tbh based on these last few episodes it seems if anyone is taking him in it's darius they're setting up for that role as he is the adult they are giving the most of a parental connection to him. (a bit fast yes, and i think darius was still quite mean to hunter before he saw hunter rebelling and i feel that should not be overlooked because he he talked down to hunter like that was pretty bad, but still).

(Also i dunno, if wittebro married a clawthorne does that technically make hunter eda's grand uncle in a way? would that make adopting him weird or because it was so long ago it doesn't matter since they'd share very little dna at this point?)

The project they r from is called Grammaire, and it is essentially for me a way to explore different, light level worldbuilding, since I love messing around with light speculation of world concepts.... it is about Milkweed, who has become able to traverse through different universes.

Essentially Milkweed was raised to believe in an entity that, before being wounded in ancient times, connected all these worlds that r now shattered and seperated from each other. They are trying to look for it, and trying to destroy half of themself so the half left could be given to heal this entity that could bring the world together again. Very silent hill 3 inspired, accidentally, essentially... 🙄 oops.

They're this very cottonheaded, soft spoken, mousy little thing (xept they're like 6'6, they just seem small bc of thei posture and essence), with a completely tatted up body and wearing very saggy comfy clothes always. They're meek, but weirdly like...... devious? In a way that people don't understand? They will say something, and smile in a way making you feel like they're making fun of you, but there is nothing in the words implying they were, you just don't get it. Essentially they are just awkward as all hell bc they grew up very isolated......

Interviewer type. Theyll endlessly ask u cryptic questions. As a side gig to being the future gods second bodyhalf, they are collecting a book of knowledge about all the worlds they go through. They are very curious and like to learn 💖💖💖
