With assigned flirtations over, most everyone repaired to the backyard for some hot tub skinny dipping. Most everyone; Jian Wei and Undine decided to play beer juice pong upstairs.
They each made their shot, each took a drink, then called it quits. Why go to the bother of setting it up then? From far back in the mists of time, 17-year-old me is appalled by this waste of beverages.
Downstairs, Youssef quit the hot tub.
And (once dressed) made his way upstairs.
I don't know how you make a Flirtatious Joke out of jogging, but it counts! It counts as Youssef finally showing some damn initiative in this game. If he had only been this motivated earlier on, he wouldn't be in last place right now!
He was rewarded by Undine with a blown kiss. 🙄
This left him with an 8-hour Obsessed moodlet. From an air kiss? I know the game has to keep it PG, but come on.
I'd better check on the others.
Oh hey! Brian's tofu dogs are still good, huh? Listen, Jian, do you think maybe when you're done--
"No."
You don't even know what I was going to ask!
"I know. But I am not here to clean the dishes."
Okay yeah you knew.
And you guys?
"We're starving."
Oh? I hear there are still tofu dogs available for guys who clean up extra plates!
"Nah."
"It's nice out here. We're bonding."
Great, that's why I disrupted a whole save and spent hours on this, so dudes could bond.
Upstairs:
They haven't moved?
They're still gazing into each other's eyes schmoopily?
Oh, oh Carlos. All of you. Look out.

Resident Evil obscure facts PART 3
Since y’all like these so much
(Probably the last part since I really scraped the bottom of my brain here)
Part 1 Part 2
☠️ Hunk telling Nighthawk to go and leave him during RE2 4th Survivor is the first time we see him respond with any emotion or concern for anyone else other than his mission.
☠️ Nikolai and Sergei Vladimir were friends and fought together in the soviet war.
☠️ Sergei Vladimir and Ozwell E Spencer were also old friends which is how Sergei came to rule over the UBCS in the first place. He was completely loyal to Spencer.
☠️ Chris bulking up between Code Veronica and RE5 was a direct response to Wesker being able to beat him so easily. He wanted to get stronger despite Wesker possessing superhuman strength.
☠️ Claire and Leon have a really shaky relationship thanks to Leon’s loyalty to the US Government. He doesn’t deviate from this until RE6 when he decides to defend Helena Harper and sympathises with her actions.
☠️ The knife Leon carries in the RE4 remake is the same knife Marvin gives him in the RE2 remake
☠️ Jake Muller said he was trained by an unnamed mercenary, some speculate this could have been Hunk as he became a mercenary after the Umbrella trials in 2003
☠️ The metal band Ice Nine Kills made a song based on the Resident Evil franchise called ‘Rainy Day’ (and its very good I recommend)
☠️ For Hunk to snap necks the way he does would require a hell of a lot of strength
☠️ Umbrella Corps (which is canon) set after Resident Evil 5 has voice lines from Wesker in it which implies he may be still alive.
Quote: “The circumstances of my death were greatly exaggerated.”
☠️ In Resident Evil 4 The Merchant’s eyes are blue but glow yellow in the dark/at night. In the Remake he doesn’t do this.
☠️ Luis Sera was Catholic which was the original religion of the village before Saddler moved in.
☠️ In Operation Raccoon City Nikolai has a scar on the side of his face but in the Resident Evil 3 Remake he doesn’t
☠️ Chris’s height was changed from 5’11” to 6’2” in later games
☠️ In Resident Evil 7, Ethan loses his left hand, in RE8 he loses his right.
☠️ ‘Master of Unlocking’ is perhaps the most well known ongoing Resident Evil reference not only in the series but many other games as well including most recently as an achievement in the game Killer Frequency.’ You’ll find it most commonly as the name of trophies.
☠️ In Resident Evil 3 Remake RPD, Carlos makes a quote about cameras being used to kill monsters which is a reference to the Fatal Frame series.
☠️ Also in the RE3 Remake, we never truly find out who Nikolai’s client was and Jill never does the ‘detective work’ on it either. It’s theorised that it was Sergei Vladimir as he is the only person Nikolai had any kind of contact and relationship with.
☠️ There is an unofficial Resident Evil 4 inspired puzzle game on the Switch called Safe Room where you organise items into differently shaped grid boxes. Perfect for those that enjoy the satisfaction of good inventory management.
☠️ Crimson head zombies are a mutated variant of regular T-Virus zombies that can happen sometimes if you ‘kill’ them. But they are actually the midway point between a regular zombie and a Licker. (Note the sharp claws)
☠️ Rebecca’s coffee order is an iced caramel macchiato
☠️ Extra fact: I write Hunk related short stories on AO3! I’d love if you checked em out! The link to my fics is HERE
Death Island spoilers below!
☠️ In Death Island, Chris and Leon have matching watches
☠️ As of Death Island, all five of the main characters have been infected with something and cured.
☠️ Chris mentioning Piers in Death Island is the first we’ve heard of him since RE6 (and it hurtttt)
☠️ It’s implied that Chris finding Leon in Vendetta and bringing him back saved his life. We see his mood has greatly improved since then
☠️ We don’t actually have an answer for when Leon and Jill first met but it could have been around the same time he met Chris in 2010
☠️ Once again the trend of Leon crashing every vehicle he touches continues!

•(0:00) – Introduction
Adam Malin is standing near the mic on stage, introducing the boys.
Malin: -Jarrrreeeed! (audience claps and cheers)
A door on the back wall from the right of stage opens up. Jensen with Jared following walk into the room followed by a team of bodyguards. J2 wave at the gold audience and then step on stage with one mic stand. Camera’s from the audience are constantly flashing.
Jensen: Hi. (audience giggles)
Jared: Hello guys. (leans over to the singular mic) They’re make us, like, accidentally touch faces and what. (audience laughs) Good morning. (to Jensen) I don’t think it’s early as probably last time.
Jensen: (reaches to the mic stand’s ) (to Jared) I think I’m gonna raise this up (Jared: Yeah!) for big guy here. (audience laughs)
◘Jensen LA SPN convention-06 Bfast 01-11 by DW&DW◘
Jared: I decided to pick (points to the end of the stage) the short cut on this side of the stage instead of going on the way in. (audience giggles) Well, welcome to, uh, LA-
Jensen: Who’s- Who’s not awake? (raises hand up high) (audience giggles and raises their hands) (flings arm to his right) Good to know. Good to know.
Jared: (reaches for the mic) I’ll take over then. (to the audience) Where y’all come from? Anybody, uh, far away or anybody here local?
The audience starts yelling out answers. Jensen walks behind to the other side of Jared and takes off his jacket and tosses it to the end of the stage.
•(0:54 O, 0:23 DW)- LA08Gold;T1- Jared’s engagement
Jared: (looks back and forth) Where are y’all from? (audience member: France!) France! I was just in France. I got engaged in France. (Jensen starts clapping. Then audience claps and cheers) I wish she was here now because, um, (?she could?), um, (?she could tell?), but I was, uh- January 28th. It was our four-year anniversary at (?). (audience aws) (adjusts the mic stand) And so, I’m a very lucky man. But that was in, uh, in Paris. (?Had to do the-?) (swipes hands out)
Audience member: Eiffel Tower?
Jared: I- it wasn’t at the Eiffel Tower. I heard that Tom Cruise done that. And I was like, (shakes head) “I don’t know if I wanna-” (audience laughs) So, um- And actually a credit to.. the show and the word that y’all helped spread, I was getting recognized a lot in France. And I was just- Strangely, I was like- We were in the Louvre and, um, you know, where these priceless paintings and these sculptures and everything. (audience laughs) And people are walking past, like, holding their pictures up and I’m like, “That’s (?Menoi?)! Why are you all like-” (audience laughs, Jensen smiles)
Um, but I just- I- We- I ended up doing it in the hotel room. Uh, because I- I didn’t want.. the moment to be like.. (mimics kneeling looking up) “Will you-“ “Take a picture of?” (mimics getting up and posing with fans) (audience laughs) I went back. And so, uh, we had a nice private day and had massages and everything. (audience giggles) But I did great. So- So, thank you I guess. (laughs then looks at Jensen)
◘Jared and Jensen in LA: Breakfast clip 1 by BabyBlueSteel◘
◘Jensen LA SPN convention-07 Bfast 02-11 by DW&DW◘
Oh, yeah. Good idea. (takes off his coat) (audience catcall)
Jensen: Heh, yeah. (?You startin’ to?) sweat now?
•(2:11 O, 0:08 BBS, 0:05 DW)- LA08Gold;T2- Goodies from set; Sam’s clothes
Jared: Heey. I borrowed this set- this shirt from set, so. (audience giggles) I’m Sam today. (hands coat to someone off stage) Thank you, sir. Yeah.
Jensen: The whole outfit to. (audience chuckles)
Jared: I know, yeah. But I didn’t borrow (pats pants) this. This I stole after season one. (lifts left leg and pats shoe) This I stole after season two. (audience laughs) (to Jensen) The belt, I think, is also season two.
Jensen: Well, you know, all the time we have to actually shop (?at the end of the day?).
Jared: Right. Right. Right. And, they- And they’re much better than I am at shopping for clothes. (Jensen: Yeah.) So, I just sort of run into the wardrobe trailer for something (?wear?) around the knees?
Jensen: Oh, the whole thing.
Jared: Yeah. (audience laughs) Yeah. That’s one person’s job.
(to the audience) Anything else? Y’all have questions? Y’all are excited to be here or? (audience affirms and cheers) Thanks again for (throws hands up) one of the-
Jensen: (scoots closer to Jared) It- it used to be like a-like a camera phone (?).
Jared: Yeah. Yeah, right.
◘Jared and Jensen at Breakfast in LA - March 08 by runedgirl◘
Jensen: (gestures to the crowd) Now we have actual video cameras on you (?). (audience laughs) (looks at a watch) Which does mean this will be on YouTube in about three minutes. So watch what you say.
Jared: So, I can watch it and see how.. dorky I.. (audience laughs) will be.
Jensen: Ah, yeah. Absolutely.
Jared: That is fun actually. I- you know I- I don’t know. Jensen makes fun of me.
•(3:16 O, 1:13 BBS, 1:11 DW, 0:19 R)- LA08Gold;T3- YouTube Farting Panda story
Jensen: I saw- (facepalms) I saw the thing on TV last night. I don’t know the guy’s name, but, uh, it-it was just a clip of a commercial for a show. And it was just talking about the accessibility of YouTube. (audience chuckle) (laughs) And the guy says- the guy says, “YouTube!” (raises hands) “Bring me a farting Panda” (claps) (audience and Jared laughs)
(to Jared) I had to pause the television because I was laughing. (audience laughs) (shakes head) I love it. (wipes his face)
Jared: (thumbs to Jensen) Now you know that Jensen is looking up farting pandas. (Audience laughs. Jensen shrugs) I never found that. Uh-
◘Jensen LA SPN convention-08 Bfast 03-11 by DW&DW◘
Jensen: It’s what I do. (Jared: Yeah.) Yeah.
Jared: Uh… I remember last summer-
Jensen: This is what I do with my Saturday night. Yeah. (shrugs) (audience laughs)
•(3:53 O, 1:51 BBS, 0:09 DW)- LA08Gold;T4- Jared’s family visit
Jared: I got to spend time with my family yesterday. My brother was in town. (swipes hand) My sister was in town. So, I’m really excited.
And I probably smell, because we stayed up late, so. (audience laughs) I apologize to anybody who I will be (Jensen mouths “He does” to the audience) close proximity to (audience laughs) later. I still smell a little bit. But I don’t get a chance to see them too often. So, he’s joining a convention of some sort for the doctor study- whatever they do. (swipes hand) It’s not important. (audience laugh) Just-
Jensen: Just saving the world.
Jared: Just saving the world. (shakes head and waves his hand) Nothing important.
Jensen: Nothing to see here.
Jared: Yeah. I always- I always find it funny, because I always call my brother (takes off beanie) and griping about something. I’m saying, “Ohh, I work 16 hours.” He’s like, “I’m an hour 48 at the hospital. I’ve had 93 minutes of sleep.” (laughs) I’m going, “Yeah. Yeah. I wasn’t griping or anything.” (shrugs) I was just like, (shrugs)” (audience laughs) “(?I wouldn’t want be?) my brother. I don’t wannna.. make it sound like, uh, bitching and moaning.”
Jensen: Going into surgery after an hour forty-eight?
Jared: Yeah. (Jensen: ?Wow?) (?It’s frightening to do that?) (audience laughs)
•(2:41 BBS, 1:00 DW)- LA08Gold;T5- Finger surgery story
Jared: It’s always been, um- When I broke my hand and I had the cast on the show, I remember I was talking with the doctor who had done my hand- who had fix my wrist. And he was saying he and his partner one time with a 20 hour surgery- uh, this is kind of.. disgusting but, um- (audience laugh) A guy had cut his fingers off on a saw. So they had to go in and label all the little.. (jiggles head) like veins to the right veins with those little tags and sit there for twenty-eight hours. Neither of them slept. (nods) Yeah. So-
Jensen: So, good morning everybody! (claps) (audience laughs)
Jared: If y’all are tired then.. (swipe points) don’t gripe. Let me do it. (audience laughs)
◘Jared and Jensen in LA: Breakfast clip 2 by BabyBlueSteel◘
I’ll just pass the mic to Jensen (Jensen: I don’t want it) because I’ll- I’ll sit here- (audience laughs)
Jensen steps away from the mic, but Jared leans it towards him.
Jensen: Thank you. Thank you. (steps back to the mic and says to the audience) Hi. (audience greets back) I have no stories to tell right now. (audience chuckles) Um-
A loud heavy thud interrupts Jensen and J2 look to their right. The audience make startled giggles in response. Jared points at the noises origin and then grabs the mic.
Jared: What’s in that glass? Can we get a smell check on.. (puts back the mic back)
•(2:00 DW, 0:23 BBS)- LA08Gold;T6- miniature impala
Audience member: We’ve got the prettiest girl in the room right here, the impala.
Jared: (holds hands out to audience member) That is- (claps and nods) That’s right.
Jensen: There’s my baby.
Jared: It was good to see that car again, for sure. (throws up hand) Yeah-
Jensen: Might have a little trouble fittin’ into that one. (audience laughs) But, yeah.
•(2:12 DW, 0:35 BBS)- LA08Gold;T7- Writer strike end; 4th season renewal
Jared: First off (claps) also (pats Jensen’s shoulder) I-I know I said I’d passed the mic to Jensen but I’m gonna (Jensen waves Jared on) (audience laughs) Let’s be happy that the writer’s strike finally ended. (clap) (Jensen: Ah [claps]) (audience cheers and claps)
◘Jensen LA SPN convention-09 Bfast 04-11 by DW&DW◘
(?Tomorrow, I’ll answer this?) you will find records or YouTubes of this. So let’s say, you know, thank you again to them. And getting us picked up for a fourth season. That was real (?nice of you?). (audience claps and cheers) (J2 talk off mic)
•(1:01 BBS, 0:18 DW)- LA08Gold;T8- Kripke at LAcon
Jared: (to the audience) Kripke was here yesterday? (audience affirms)
Jensen: That’s wh- That’s- (grabs mic) That’s really what I wanted to talk to you guys about, is I wanna start asking you questions. (audience laughs) ‘Cause he doesn’t tell us anything. (slice hand motion) (audience laughs) It’s- Yeah, no, seriously people will ask-
Audience member: What do you want to know?
Audience member: What do you wanna know?
Audience member: We know everything!
Jensen: Uh, (gestures to himself) what happens with me? (audience laughs) Do I die? Do I die?
Jared: (grabs the mic and points to himself) What happens with me? Do I-
Jensen: (grabs the mic back) More importantly, what happens with me? (Jared laughs) No, really. Do you guys- Did he give you any, uh- uh-
•(1:25 BBS, 0:42 DW)- LA08Gold;T9- Five season limit
Audience member: For five seasons!
Jensen: What?
Audience: Five seasons!
Jared: He said five seasons?
Audience member: Big cliffhanger! Big cliffhanger.
Audience member: They gonna leave!
Audience member: He said that y’all had called too!
Audience member: Yeah, dude you’re dead!
Jared places a hand on his chest and grimaces to Jensen.
Audience member: You died!
Jensen looks confused at the audience. The audience laughs.
Jared: (grabs mic) I put in a request for that, so. (swipes hand)
Jensen: (to Jared) Uh, there is the Supernatural comment box. (Jared and audience laugh)
◘ JA & JP LA Con Breakfast 30-03-08 by phouka◘
Audience member: You’re not coming back, Jensen.
Jensen: I’m not coming back? (Audience member: No.) (looks to Jared) Have fun. (audience laughs) (Jared: Great!) Have fun.
Jared: Maybe my hours will (audience chuckles) (to audience member) So, he said five seasons, huh? (audience affirms)
Audience member: He said- he said that y’all just don’t want to do more than that.
Jared: Oh, he did?!
Jensen: Oh, he blamed us! (audience giggles) (audience keeps yelling out things) (to Jared) I seem to recall having a very, very intimate conversation with the guy saying, (arm slice motion) “I don’t want to write past five.” (nods) “Okay, Eric.” (audience laughs) (thumbs up) “Sounds good, buddy.”
Jared: I- I think, uh, yeah. I think we have had.. a discussion with him before where he talks about.. He’s afraid if we go into.. season 20 like Bonanza, it’ll be Sam and Dean (audience laugh) like, (leans against the wall) sitting down on couches going, “(?There’s a handgun?)” (finger guns)-
Jensen: (mimics old!Dean using a walker with shaky hips) “Sam!” (audience and Jared laughs)
Jared: (mimics Jensen) You really need to do that butt shaking thing.
Jensen: (nods) I will. (audience laughs) I will. Absouletly.
◘LA Con Breakfast2 by runedgirl◘
Jared: I think that, uh-
Jensen: (to Jared) She got a kick out of that one.
Jared: I really want to see it again. (Jensen: No.) I wanted to see it. (shakes his head) I’m just kidding.
Jensen: I know you do.
Jared: I’d rather- I’d rather not see it ever.
Jared reaches for the mic stand, but the mic falls off. Jensen shakes his head. The audience laughs and Jared looks dejectedly at the empty mic stand. Jared then bends down and picks up the mic.
Jared: (to the audience) I’m certain that he did that. (audience laughs) (untangles the mic cord) I guess I’ve been drinking whatever she’s (points into the audience) drinking.
Jensen: Oh, sorry I dropped the microphone (mimics bending to pic up the mic), excuse me.
Jared: Now, let me turn around and-
Jared bends over to the side and shows the audience his butt. The audience catcalls, while Jared continues to untangle the mic cord from around the stand. Jared laughs at the reaction.
Jared: It’s not- It’s not a great site (?) (audience laughs) I wish it were something worth screaming for. (finishes untangling the cord) I don’t know how I got Sandy. (audience giggles)
•(3:11 BBS, 0:37 R)- LA08Gold;T10- SPN hiatus activities; Reaper
Jared: What have y’all guys been doing when Supernatural’s been off? What have y’all been watching? What’s going (?on?)? (audience yell out answers) (throws up hand) Really?
Jensen: (takes the mic stand) Well they’ve been watching Reaper cause they took our timeslot. (audience denies. Jared laughs and claps)
Jared: Good to know that y’all still prefer Sam of Supernatural to Sam of Reaper. Which (?confused me?). (audience squeals) I mean, I really enjoy the show, but when I was watching the first time I was going, “Why are they calling him Sam?” (audience laughs) “His name is Sam. Like, my name is Sam.” (audience giggles)
Jensen: (counts on his fingers) His name is Sam, the lead character. (Jared chuckles) Hunts demons and.. Okay. (wipes mouth) (audience laughs) (laughs) Okay.
•(3:51 BBS, 1:17 R)- LA08Gold;T11- 3x13
Jared: We just did an episode with the Hellhounds. The guys from, uh, season 1? The (audience cheers) I guess the episode called Hellhounds or Hell House? (audience affirms “Hell House”) So they’re back. A.J. and Travis are back with, um, this whole gang. People they call the Ghostfacers. And it’s a really neat episode. I don’t know if Kripke talked about it? (audience affirms) And it’s all shot on video cams.
And so it’s interesting to go and shot a take and, uh- We all go watch it and laugh and go, “Huh, this playback thing is kind of fancy.” (audience laugh) (?The difference between?) light it and shoot it, and go back and change, light it and shoot it and go back and change, work on our lot. It was kind of fun, to not have marks and not hit lights.
The experience with (?) was nice to actually just act and not just feel like.. (mini pose) minding my lights, posing for the camera (?).
Jensen: Because that’s all you do. (audience laughs)
Jared: (shrugs) (shrugs) I got nothing. (audience giggles)
Jensen: No, it was. It wa- it was like, uh, took us- took us out of our element because, you know, there’s a technical of- a technical side of acting was kind of forms in your brain once you do it for so long. And (shrugs) you know, to-to kind of strip that away all of a sudden you’re left with nothing but lines and- and reacting off of characters. So- (shrugs) So, it’s kind of cool (?episode, you know, like in theatre?). But, uh-
◘Jensen LA SPN convention-11 Bfast 06-11 by DW&DW◘
And then, you know, these little tiny cameras. You know, (Jared: Yeah.) you’re- you’re- you’re used to having the camera. And if you’re in front of it, you gotta be bringing up the performance a little bit, because as soon as it goes off, you’re like, “Pbft” (mimics walking away) (Jared and the audience laugh)
Jared: (?of course?)
Jensen: Well, unbeknownst- So, unbeknownst to us in the beginning there’s camera’s like (points different angles) (?tight and wide?), (Jared: That’s right.) there’s a camera over here, and there’s a over there. So, we’re never off (Jared: Yeah) camera. So it’s a constant, uh- it’s-it’s a constant barrage of filming.
Jared: I think it’s nine or eleven, some.. strange odd number (Jensen: Ten) of- Ten. (audience giggles) (points to head) With cameras and little head cams and little, uh.. uh, little cams that are.. attached on a (?face thing?). It was really interesting to shoot. I really had a good time. So, I hope y’all guys liked it. Um-
Jensen: Yup. It’s a little different.
Jared: It is different. But I think- I think, uh, (?it reminds me of?) It’s kind of that handheld feel which we haven’t had a.. really a lot of chances to do on this show.
Jensen: Hey, what’s the movie that came out recently, uh-
Jared: Cloverfield (claps)
Jensen: (nods) Cloverfield.
Jared: So, I didn’t get the chance to see it, but I heard it was great. Uh, so I’d like to see it but- I think it’s- I think they said Cloverfield but not (?a shape?). I didn’t see it, so I don’t know.. what that means. But, I guess it was kind of Blair Witch Cloverfield style of TV show.
Jensen: (?) 50 incher and you’re like, (mimics throwing up) (audience laughs)
•(6:10 BBS, 1:27 DW)- LA08Gold;T12- Cinematography; height differences (3x13)
Jared: It was also much tougher for them to hide my height. It was.. watching random cameras that might look down at the ground. They’re like, “Can’t really squat.” (awkwardly squats) (audience laughs) “I can’t really like, (spreads his legs) go like this.” (audience laughs) (tosses up hands) “I guess I just gotta be tall.” (audience laughs)
We have a- we have a girl named Brittany, who’s one of the guest stars. And she’s, uh, she’s about yea high. So, she’s got a little camera. And every time she looks at me or Jensen, she’s like this. (mimics pointing the camera up) (Jensen mimics her too) And the ceiling is gone, because they’re all in these, uh, you know- (Jensen: Sets.) Yeah, it’s all sets. So, they’re like, “Uhhh, could you just hold (mimics holding the camera above his head) it above your (?)?” (audience laughs)
So, Phil was directing. And they ended up making her put the little screen down and sit there and (mimics holding the camera way above his head) hold on it’s (?strung out and running into things?). It was pretty fun to watch. (audience and Jensen laugh) Next time I want to be operator.
Jensen: The challenges. (Jared: Yeah.) (?It’s all challenges?)
◘Supernatural Convention, LA 2008 -Sunday Breakfast- by JensenLover89◘ (0:00-3:08)
Jared: Yeah.. And now Jensen has a song prepared for you.
◘Jensen LA SPN convention-12 Bfast 07-11 by DW&DW◘
Jensen: I do. (audience woos and claps) (grabs the mic) Hit it! (audience laughs.) I don’t know who I’m talking to. (audience laughs) (shrugs) Uhhh, (looks around the room) any questions, guys? Any, uh- (Jared: Yeah! Yeah.) Give us something to talk about, for crying out loud. (audience giggles) Sitting up here like puppets. (raises head at fan) Yes. Yes.
◘Jared and Jensen in LA: Breakfast clip 3 by BabyBlueSteel◘
• (0:30 JL, 0:18 DW, 0:07 BBS)- LA08Gold;Q1- Stunts; Fight scenes; Women vs Men (2x15)
Fan: I-I guess, general question. So, um, in terms of the- the combat or the fighting scenes and stuff that you do, do you find- are they choreographed enough that it doesn’t make a difference, or when your actually fighting women or they’re, ehm, you know, the fembots in the Trickster episode or things like that. D- Is- is there a difference, um, when you’re- when you’re interacting in a fight scene like that with a woman vs a male, er, man or actor or actress?
Jensen: Uhhh, well yeah. Absolutely. Th- You know, (shrugs) you want to be.. You know, g-guys, uh- We- we get physical with the- with the fights and, uh- You know, I’m- I’m gonna.. actually steal a-a quote that, uh, Harrison Ford said it recently. He said, uh, when they asked him, they were like, “So, about the new Indiana Jones movie, so you’ll be doing all your- all your stunts?” And he goes, “Oh, I don’t do stunts. Uh, I run, jump, and fall down.” (audience laughs. Jared smiles)
And, (shrugs) which is basically what we do. The stunt guys are the ones that do the- the really, you know.. t-the dangerous things. But, uh, the hand to hand combat stuff we do- It’s, uh- It’s choreographed out to an extent, but once- once you get the, you know, sound roll and the camera’s start rolling and stuff, it intensifies.
So, we always try to rehearse at half speed because you know as soon the, uh- as soon as the camera starts rolling that- that adrenaline, uhh, kicks in and you start going really fast. And then that’s when- Well, I mean (thumbs at Jared) you know he- he broke his wrist last season.
Uhm, so, uh, but, yeah. I-I- I’d say when, you know, when dealing- We normally deal with stunt guys. So, when we’re- when we’re fighting someone it’s usually a stunt person. So, you know, they can take a- a crack open head. Or they’re very, uh, (snaps fingers) you know, they have- they have spatial awareness about them that- that is great for fighting with us.
Um, and, uh- and usually the women that we fight are stunt women as well. So, I mean-
Jared: Tougher than the stunt men. (audience laughs)
Jensen: And- Good, because I mean, (thumbs to Jared) to kick his ass. (Jared and the audience laugh) Uh,
Jared: (rotates his fingers) So, in turn..
Jensen: (points to himself) Not me.
Jared: (points at Jensen) Really. Really. (audience laughs)
Jensen: No. So, it’s, y-you know, it just depends on, eh, sometimes if w- were doing it with an actor or an actress or if we’re doing it with a stunt person, kind of how (flings hand), you know, how full tilt we get.
Jared: (nods) Yeah, that’s, from (thumbs at Jensen) my part, I would say it’s- it’s.. not so much man or woman but more-
Jensen: (holds up mic stand and shakes it) Do we even need this? Do you guys hear us? (audience affirms)
Jared: (grabs mic stand from Jensen) I want the mic. I like it. (laughs)
◘Jensen LA SPN convention-13 Bfast 08-11 by DW&DW◘
Jensen: (gestures to go ahead) Get the spotlight (?coming for you?). (thumbs to Jared) (audience laughs)
Jared: Yeah, I thought I had the spotlight on me. No, it’s not- For-For my money, it’s not so much man or woman, but actor or stunt actor, you know? Because, like (thumbs to Jensen) he was saying, like, with.. uh, kind of hinted at this- the stunt women are.. tough as nails also. And a lot of them are like ex-fighters and, you know, trained in kick boxing and (throws up hand) could kick my ass. (throws up hand) And so could kick his ass. But, um, so-
•(2:46 BBS, 0:29 DW)- LA08Gold;T13- bts story; stunt people; 3x02, 2x19, 1x06
Jensen: What is the, uh- Where was the- In the- the changelings’ episode, uh, (Jared: We were in, uh, “Nightshifter.”) at the very end, uh, the mother changeling, uh- (audience answers “The Kids Are Alright”) (Jared: Yeah.) Yeah. Uh, I-I fling her into like some, you know, (?big?) barrels and then I stand her up and I do a (mimics kick) front kick right into her chest. And, it was- it was not the actress. It was just the-the- the stunt woman and she kept going, (“come on” gesture) “Kick me.” (audience laughs) And so, I, you know-
And I’ve been known to knock the breath outta of, uh, (gestures to Jared) like Lou’s, uh, son Nick. (Jared: Oh, yeah.) Yeah. Like, our stunt coordinator Lou Bollo.. he has a son named Nick. Uh, he’s very into, uh,-
Jared: He’s been- he’s been in several stunts.
Jensen: He’s been in a lot of stuff and, uh-
Jared: In the prison episode he was (mimics lifting and tossing) picked up and launched on to the- the (Jensen nods), uh, table.
Jensen: And this is in theee, what would have been, uh, “Skin.” Uh, first season. He comes- And he comes into the door ‘cause one of the, uh- uh, SWAT guys. And just give him (mimics kick) a soccer kick right to his- right in his chest and he just goes flying out the door. (audience laughs) Because Lou, his father, was like (leans in and whispers), “Kick him hard.” (audience laughs) (holds out hands) “Alright.”
Jared: (leans into the mic) That’s when he needed the microphone. (holds the mic to Jensen)
Jensen: “Kick it- Kick him- Kick him hard.” (audience laughs)
Jared: (takes the mic back) Now, back to me.
Jensen: But- But I really- I d- the-the lady from the from changelings, I mean, I- I punted her so hard that after- after every take I’m like, (bends down) “I’m so sorry. (?)” (audience laughs) And she popped right up. She’s like, (shakes head) “I’m good.” (audience laughs)
Jared: (strained voice) “I’m good.” (audience laugh)
Jensen: Yeah, (?like that?). (Jared laughs) (strained voice) “Medic.” (Jared and audience laugh)

Fan: (?Hi, Eric?). Good morning.
◘Jensen LA SPN convention-14 Bfast 09-11 by DW&DW◘
Jared: Hi there.
Fan: (laughs) Hi. In the, um, episode Mystery Spot, in the restaurant scene you guys were going back and forth at the same time, did it take you a long time to do that? (audience laughs)
Jared: You know what? It didn’t take us that long-
Jensen: (shakes head) (says something off mic)
Jared: I’ll answer that. I will say-
Fan: Can you do it for us?
Jared: It was- um, You know what? I wish I remembered it. That’d be fun. But, it was- it was something that- We-We… If we’re filming at the same time, we usually get picked up in the same car every day. So, we ride.. to work together and we’ll go through our lines and go through scenes and ideas and whatever for the forty-five minutes or however long it takes to get to work. Uh-
And so, that day.. it was- We were- We had to do that. And then the right up before the take we ran into, uh, (thumbs to Jensen) his trailer or my trailer going , “Okay, let’s do it.” “Blah, blah, blah, blah.” “Bluh, bluh, bluh, bluah.”
I will say, that the only reason it took.. a long time (laughs) to- (points at Jensen) You kept saying, “Of the,” instead of, “the” or something.
Jensen raises his eyebrows and shrugs twice, smirking. The audience laughs.
Jared: And it’ll probably be in the outtakes. (laughs) It’ll probably be in the outtakes because I remember after the beat, he’d have add something, which made sense. The line- There was- I don’t remember the line.. But-
Jensen: (shrugs) Apparently, I didn’t either. (audience chuckles)
Jared: Correct speech was like, “Something of the something.” But the way it was written was without the of. So, I kept skipping the “of”.. (pointedly turns to Jensen and speaking directly into the mic) referring to the script. (audience laughs) Jensen was adlibbing. (Jensen nods and smacks his lips)
Jensen: (to Jared) Referring to my acting talent.
The audience laughs. Jared turns and nods, and then bursts out laughing. Jensen smiles. The audience starts clapping.
Jared: Touché. Touché.
•(1:27 BBS, 1:23 DW)- LA08Gold;T14- Dialogue and Audio challenges
Jensen: Um, so we- we- we actually got that pretty quick. In fact, (Jared: ?Yeah?) uh, one of the- one of the- the harder things about doing.. film or- or television like this is.. You know, in normal life people talk over each other. You know, that’s just- that’s just the way we, you know, we conversate. It is, uh, it- it-
Jared: (gets closer) I totally hear that. (audience laughs) (?) that’s Right. (Jensen: I could tell.) It seems to be a-a normal way to talk. (can’t hear the rest) (J2 separate and Jared laughs)
Jensen: Um, and we- we-we love to actually do scenes like that, but our-our sound guy would, you know, probably (turns to Jared) pull his hair out. (Jared: Right. Yeah.) (nods) So, we have to (hand chops) have that separation.
So, whenever we do stuff like that it’s- it’s strategic (claps). Like, we’re in (?)
Jared: We actually did this scene, um, I guess, Friday. Um, (Jensen: [nods] Yep) We were in the quad of UBC campus and, uh, the scene kind starts getting heated up. It’s-
Jensen: Supernatural! (audience laughs) (J2 bend over laughing)
Jared: Yeah, we need to tell that one.
Jensen: (?Y’all know how the story ends?) (audience giggles)
Jared: Um.. But the scene starts to get heated up. And we had found this really, I thought, comfortable rhythm of, you know, he- his line takes it to the next level, which takes us to the next level, then we start yelling at each other. And it felt pretty good and it felt real. And, like, he said, a lot of the times we found that getting into a heated discussion, especially, the kind of (Jensen: (?)) not really listening, your just kind of blabbing, you know?
Um, but they had the- they were like, “Okay. Bob (?didn’t have a good listen?). No (?cue?) sound. Don’t lose the energy, but can we break apart the lines?” “Well, uh, you know, it’s gonna lose some of the energy, but, um-“ (?what I think I’ll?) probably go through the takes and see if they can make it work. And, uh, go from that.”
Jensen: Well, you just trust your editors to.. make it right. Edited it the way you want it to be performed. And unfortunately, sometimes you can’t perform it that way, you just got to trust your editors that they will.. cut it together (?that way, so?). (Jared: Right.) Um-

And- a-and then he’s looking, and I’m getting out of the backseat. (Jared laughs) And then he goes, (mimics the student’s mouth opening wider) (audience laughs) And the only thing he could muster was, “Supernatural!” (audience laughs then claps) And then he walks off. (zoom gesture)

I mean, we’re in Vancouver shooting long days and just basically waking up, going through our lines, acting, going to sleep. We don’t- I mean, we’re actors. We want flattery and praise. (audience laughs. Jensen smiles.) We want to know it’s making a difference. And- and- Uh, I know a lot who watch, um.. like Grey’s Anatomy, and CSI and stuff, which are all great shows, but a lot of ‘em watch it just because their friends at work watch it. So, they want to know what they’re talking about. It’s like, “You know what? I hang out with five people, they all watch it. So, I’ll gonna watch it myself just so I can know what they’re talking about if they’re talking about this or talking about that.”

Nuther 72 km.
I had snacks and two water bottles which should have been enough for the mountain. I spent the first 20 km trying to decide if I was going to do it. Because I was not feeling quite right and had those doubts I did not try.
As an alternate task I pushed very hard on several parts. I did Prospect Point hill in my second best time. I held between 250 to 350 Watts for that climb. It is short enough to not blow up, I felt almost comfortable, but on the edge of not.
I went through Kits and Spanish Banks and up that UBC hill. I tried to stay above 250 Watts. I did a couple of kph over my usual pace. I felt suitably punished.
I am in good condition as by the end I was not really tired. Had I done the mountain I would have been in survival mode. I have a weird thing about that hill. I have never failed to summit it if I ever started it. Sea level to 920 ish meters. Getting to the top is very hard, and that is only half of the ride. It is a total head game.
I will get it done in August. Hopefully twice.
I should get one more ride in for July. I have already topped last years July. Getting back on track now with all these distractions done. I have my Granfondo ticket and hotel reservation in Whistler. Its about 5 weeks away.
It is a long day that ride. I am well past the "if I can do it" stage. I know I can. There are thousands of people faster than I am. There are thousands of people slower than I am. It is very hard work, but it is fun. Yes I mean it. Fun. It is a celebration of being alive.
I am still alive if I can do it.

THEME SONGS.
1 . CHOKEHOLD — sleep token.
i've seen my days unfold, done the impossible / i'll turn my walls to gold to bring you home again / so show me that which i cannot see / even if it hurts me, even if i can't sleep / oh, and though we act out of our holy duty to be constantly awake / you've got me in a chokehold
2 . THESE STREETS — city wolf.
praying that you don't run out of luck / you're runnin' but the pavement's got you stuck / you've been around the block, i know; you've got the cuts to show it / smokin' like a bullet from a gun / the city got you crushed under its thumb / you're starin' at the clock, i see / your time is up; you know it / so write your name in the dust / hope they remember you 'cause these streets, they're mean / you gotta fight if you want to eat / it's blood and bone / the blacktop's got a heart of stone / they're mean, these streets / they're gonna try to take you / never let 'em break you
3. LOST AGAIN — kings elliot.
now all of my nightmares are coming true / and i've seen beyond the darkest side of the moon / i've walked in the shadows but how do i run / from monsters in the mirror i'm afraid that i've become? / so why do i run for the flames? / 'cause there's no way back and they're all i have / am i, am i so lost again? / i'd give everything, but i'll never win
4 . AN INNOCENT MAN — billy joel.
i know you don't wanna hear what i say / i know you're gonna keep turning away / but i've been there, and if i can survive / i can keep you alive / i'm not above going through it again / i'm not above being cool for a while / if you're cruel to me, i understand / some people run from a possible fight / some people figure they can never win / and although this is a fight i can lose / the accused is an innocent man / i am an innocent man
5 . WAR — poets of the fall.
with no one wearing their real face, it's a whiteout of emotion / and i've only got my brittle bones to break the fall / when the love in letters fade, it's like moving in slow motion / and we're already too late if we arrive at all / and then we're caught up in the arms race, an involuntary addiction / and we're shedding every value our mothers taught / so will you please show me your real face? / draw the line in the horizon / 'cause i only need your name to call the reasons why i fought

Day 5! The no-elimination day.
Oh dear, Youssef, you're starving!
"Undine is out of empanadas."
Okay, but she made you those waffles you're eating.
"Waffles are not empanadas."
r/ChoosingBeggars
After breakfast, Undine went to play video games and was quickly joined in that activity by Youssef and Dietmar.
"Did you have to fire the maid, Undine? There are so many dirty dishes!"
"Too bad! You can clean them up after I finish kicking your ass."
Dietmar: I feel so... nerdy!
...being named "Dietmar" didn't make you feel nerdy?
"Brian had this whole weird thing about art, you know. But at least he cleaned stuff."
"So you're saying I should have picked Brian, Youssef?"
"No!"
Dietmar: Nerdiness... intensifying! I feel the power of the force--
Knock it off! I'm sure it's only a tumor.
Huh! For some reason I labeled this pic, in part, "Gaming_03." But actually, this is what Undine got up to after she finished playing video games: Her assigned flirting maneuvers.
Formula:
Three Friendly interactions, e.g. Ask About Day / Ask [something else, if available] / Chat or Gossip, followed by
One Irresistible and Two Romantic interactions: Wink, Flirtatious Joke, and Compliment Appearance.
I added one other rule: Everyone except the guy in the lead, Carlos, would get one free autonomous romantic interaction, whether initiated by themselves or Undine. If no one did anything after Undine had done her assigned actions, then as soon as one of the pair queued up something else to do, the speed dating session between them would end.
I have another screenshot in here labeled "Gaming_04." Well, let's see what that's about, because I'll bet it isn't gaming.
--it isn't, but I'm not ready for it. I gotta quit doing these when I'm tired.
All right, boys, who's got next?
Youssef chose to autonomously Flirt with Undine once she'd completed her winking/joking/complimenting bit. A safe choice, nothing fancy, but classic.
Jian Wei went for Hold Hands with Undine. Bolder! Effective! She has a wish to kiss him now.
"I am in it to win it. I persist."
Indeed.
Gun fingers, Undine? Gun fingers?
"Look at him! They love it. It's part of the wink."
You know your business best, I suppose.
Like Youssef, Dietmar played it safe, with a Flirtatious Joke.
Here it is! Why I labeled this shot "Gaming_04," I'll never know.
"It's thanks to the power of my nerd force!"
😡
Do you want me to root against you in this challenge, Dietmar? Because that's how you get me to root against you.

How to Contact a Canadian Professor for a Scholarship (PhD, MS)
5 Tips on How to Contact a Canadian Professor for a Scholarship
If you are seeking a scholarship in Canada, it can be challenging to know how to contact a Canadian professor to inquire about potential opportunities. However, it is essential to note that professors are often the gatekeepers to valuable scholarship information. Here are some ways you can contact a Canadian professor for a scholarship: 1. Research: First, research the professor's area of expertise and interest. This is important because you want to find a professor who is interested in your field of study and has a scholarship available. Success Stories of Immigrants who have Found Opportunities and Succeeded in Canada 2. Email: Once you have identified a professor, send them an email introducing yourself and expressing your interest in their research. Be sure to attach your resume, transcripts, and any other relevant documents that may support your application. 3. Follow-up: After sending your initial email, give the professor a few days to respond. If you don't hear back, follow up with a polite email or phone call. 4. Attend Conferences: Attend conferences where your potential professors will be presenting or attending. This is an excellent opportunity to network and establish a relationship with them. 5. Social Media: Some professors may have social media accounts where you can connect with them. LinkedIn is an excellent platform for this kind of communication. 14 Tips on How to get a PhD Scholarship in Canada
Some Examples
Here are some examples of successful scholarship applications through contacting Canadian professors: Dr. John Smith, a professor at the University of Toronto, received an email from a student expressing their interest in his research. After reviewing the student's qualifications, Dr. Smith offered them a scholarship to work on a research project with him. Maria Garcia, a student from Mexico, attended a conference where Dr. Jane Doe, a professor at the University of British Columbia, was presenting. After introducing herself and expressing her interest in Dr. Doe's research, they exchanged contact information, and Dr. Doe later offered Maria a scholarship to study at UBC.

Take the time to personalize each message to show your interest in their research. 3. Do Not Lie: Be honest and transparent about your qualifications and experience. Do not exaggerate or pretend to have qualifications that you do not possess. 4. Do Not Ignore Instructions: If a professor has specific instructions for applying for a scholarship, be sure to follow them. This may include submitting your application through a specific portal or including specific information in your message. 5. Do Not Expect an Immediate Response: Professors are busy and may not respond immediately. Be patient and follow-up after a reasonable amount of time.
Conclusion
In summary, contacting a Canadian professor for a scholarship requires research, professionalism, and persistence. By following these steps and utilizing various communication channels, you can increase your chances of securing a scholarship in Canada.

I am tired of talking about this cold/flu.
I kick colds in a few days usually. A bout of full on flu a week tops. This bug going around hit me 5 weeks ago, and I THINK I just kicked it this past weekend. I heard that the Covid plague may have done things to our immune system and maybe that is why.
Today I finally feel healthy. I am very disappointed it has gone on like this. I did rides and such, but never at my best to be sure. One way to measure this is my resting heart rate has been 10 beats higher than usual.
I skipped the club ride on Saturday. I went on my own. I needed more time and distance. The club has two major halves. The fast half and the slow half. Each of those has two groups faster and slower for a total of 4 groups. On flat ground I am a solid group 2 and have ridden with them. On hills I get dropped. I am a bit too fast for group 3 and can drop them anytime. Group 4 is just slow. The club ride for 3 was a ride I have already done many times this year. Strava awarded me the local legend status for part of it. That means I have done it more than anyone else this season.
So neither group fit my needs. So I did a long flat loop in our town then skipped over to Vancouver and up to UBC. I was just shy of 79km and 3.5 hours. I am far from my best, but you have to build it.
I missed my last weekday rides. The last bit of the bug I guess. I just passed 1000km for the year, but once again I am chasing to keep up with my averages or last year. If I do both weekday rides, and a modest Saturday I will just cover last year's distance. That is nothing to brag about. I think I had one sunny day, and no days free of rain.
The weather is supposed to break soon. If I can strip the fenders off and wear less insulation my speed should go up.
For all that I am holding what I got. Not improving, but not sliding back. I can hardly wait for nice weather.

And I got another interview! This one is for a pulp/paper Chemistry lab in Burnaby. I have a phone call scheduled 5 days after the UBC interview (both in early January). :)
Good news!
I got another job interview!!
This one is for a Chemical/Research Technician at UBC in Vancouver.
Its permanent, pays very well and is the kind of job I have direct experience doing and am interested in.
The job interview isn’t until early January but I’m excited and a bit scared. I don’t think I’ve had an in person job interview since 2018.

Now, Albuquerque is changing the way it responds to 911 calls like the one Maestas placed for her sister. In addition to police and paramedics, residents have access to a third branch of public safety: behavioral health responders.
“We’re not law enforcement, so we’re not here to cite you,” said Mariela Ruiz-Angel, director of Albuquerque Community Safety, or ACS, an independent agency alongside the police and fire departments that can be sent out by 911 dispatchers. “We’re just here to check on you. How can we help?”

An anonymous woman from Argentina has become only the second person known to ever show no detectable traces of an HIV infection without receiving a stem cell transplantation treatment to cure it.
The so-called 'Esperanza patient', named after her hometown in Argentina, was first diagnosed with HIV-1 in 2013 – but after eight years of follow-up checks and a total of 10 commercial viral load tests, there appears to be no sign of active viral infection in her body, nor any evidence of HIV-1-associated disease.

April 2002 weekend in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Hi everyone, bonjour a tout le monde!
I almost forgot to write about my first visit to Canada in April 2002. I had been to Mexico a few times, but never Canada. I found a good price for a round trip economy fare between San Francisco, Sea-Tac and Vancouver's YVR airport near Richmond, British Columbia.
On Friday the 19th April 2002 about 3:10 PM, I took a line bus from my apartment to a bus stop near the Hillsdale Inn on Hillsdale Blvd and Saratoga Drive, and transferred to the KX bus, now the line 398 to SFO. At the time, domestic United Airlines flights departed from Terminal 3. I boarded my flight to Seattle about 5:00 PM. The flight took off about 5:40 PM and arrived in Seattle about 8:10 PM at the "northern satellite". I would have to transfer to a smaller plane, namely an Embraer E120 propellor plane. Those were very small. I took a 9:35 PM plane to Vancouver, the flight was just over an hour long. I arrived about 10:45 PM at Vancouver, and it was not noticeable that the border had been crossed until the plane touched down. About 10:55 PM I reached the gate, went through customs and picked up my black checked bag, as it would still be a few months until I would buy my first wheeled bag. Canadian customs asked questions that seemed a bit unnecessary, but I did fine. I was able to change money and buy a bus ticket for CA$ 2.00 to downtown Vancouver on the former B-99 line. A transfer would be free.
The B-99 bus ran most of the length of BC route 99, from Richmond, BC, past Granville Island, to Davie Street. From there I took a bus 6 to Thurlow Street and waked to Burnaby Street where the Youth Hostel was located. I had booked a shared bedroom on the third floor. I went to my room and went to sleep as I was very tired.
Saturday the 20th April 2002 I woke up and went downstairs to ask about a good restaurant nearby. The front desk recommended Hamburger Mary's, which has since been renamed to Mary's on Davie, which was located on Davie and Bute Streets. I walked to the restaurant, and it was in the middle of a very eclectic district. The waiter greeted me and asked me if I wanted to eat inside or "oatside", when he meant outside. I chose inside. I had eggs with regular American bacon and a waffle with maple syrup.
After breakfast I walked back to the hostel, and bought a bus pass for CA $8.00 for the day, and took the B-99 to Broadway in South Granville, then I transferred to the B-98 going to UBC, University of British Columbia through Greektown. In particular, I wanted to see the Museum of Anthropology. The museum had many totem poles that were so interesting. Some had whales, bears, birds of prey, and many other animal forms. I must have spent about an hour or so there. Then I took the B-98 to Broadway, and the B-99 to the Granville Skytrain station. At the time, Burrard and Granville stations as well as others, had free access as long as passengers had their tickets available. In later years, fare gates were added. Burrard and Granville station for the Expo and Millenium lines were one platform on top of the other. Eastbound is below the Westbound platform. The stations kind of look like those in Milan, Italy, particularly between Turati and Missori. I took the westbound train to Waterfront. Waterfront was in a kind of semi-open cut but you could find a place where the train would turn around to head east.
Some of you may remember the building used for the 1986 Expo. It is now called Canada Place. At the time I was there, the building was not opened. I could only admire the building and contemplate how it looks so much like the Sydney Symphony Hall and was built to resemble a cruise ship. There was a ferry that went to North Vancouver, and the ferry price was included in the day pass that I had. The ferry took about fifteen minutes to go from Canada Place to Lonsdale Quay. Lonsdale Quay had some interesting shops, including a used CD store. I remember buying a Glass Tiger and Genesis CD, both used, for a good price. Later that evening I would buy a French-language CD by Céline Dion.
About an hour later, I took the ferry back to Canada Place, boarded the Skytrain eastbound to Braid. At the time, Braid was the easternmost terminus, and there was no section to Renfrew yet. I took the Skytrain back to Granville, I took a couple of busses to the Davie and Bute Street area. I must have eaten a Donair, which is the Canadian equivalent of a Gyro. Then I went to Cows Ice Cream down Davie Street, for some ice cream and souvenirs. Although there are Cows ice cream locations in Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and three other provinces across Canada, the Vancouver location has since closed, and the only one in British Columbia is in Whistler. I am not sure why the Vancouver location closed down, but I saw signs that it was about to close for good. So I am glad I went when I could. Then I went back to the hostel and went to sleep. I think it was around 10 PM.
Sunday 21st April 2002, I woke up about 8 AM and went downstairs to buy a bus ticket. I went downtown to a Blenz coffee shop. Blenz was at the time the Canadian answer to Starbuck's. At the time of writing, there exist 59 locations, the majority of which are around Vancouver, some are in Nanaimo, Victoria, Whistler, and Kelowna. I was unable to find any outside British Columbia, even in neighboring Alberta.
I went back to my room at the hostel, took a shower, packed up and took a bus to the airport. The B-99 went down to Richmond and the airport. I was able to check into my flight. One peculiar thing about Vancouver airport, is that when you check in prior to security, you get your updated ticket, but the staff do not take your suitcase. You have to put it in the security x-ray machine before passing through the United States customs. There is a checked bag dropoff only after that. Vancouver at the time was one of the few airports where United States Customs was located outside of the USA.
Prior to boarding my flight to the USA, I went to the gift shop. I had found some nice sockeye salmon and maple syrup. The salmon was in a vacuum pack, and was perfectly acceptable to import to the USA. I boarded my 1 PM plane to Seattle. I would have a longer layover going back. When the plane landed in Seattle, there was no passport inspection as that was already done in Vancouver. I am not certain if that is what is done now, but my subsequent visit in April 2003, that was the official policy.
As I had landed in Seattle, and had a long layover until I was to return to San Francisco, I took a ride on the Satellite transport system. It was fully underground, and operated similar to that of the Vancouver Skytrain. The main terminal was much larger than the northern satellite. I returned back as the flight to San Francisco would leave about 3:30 PM. The flight lasted about two hours and I arrived about 5:30 PM. I waited for my checked bag but it did not arrive. I had to make a claim for United Airlines to check. I took the KX bus back to San Mateo and a line 250 bus to Hillsdale and Norfolk, and walked the rest of the way. It was okay because I only had my backpack with me. I would likely have the black bag delivered the next day or so.
Monday 22nd April 2002, as expected, when I was home, United Airlines had delivered the black checked bag. They also offered me a $250 discount on my next flight.
So that was my weekend in Canada, which was my first visit. I would visit Canada again in April 2003, but I would have a rental car. My next flight would be with American Airlines from San Francisco to Chicago and farther on to Madrid and Sevilla, and back by Miami. It would be my first visit to Spain since November 1978 so I missed the entire 1980s and 1990s of experiencing Spain. Spain was not one of the countries that I frequently visited.
Anyway I hope you enjoyed my personal account of twenty years since my first visit to Canada. Until next time! (25th May 2002)

Why is Margaret Atwood an abysmal human being?
Oh god, it’s a few things. And it’s all rather involved, because it’s Canadian Lit and everything is messy in Can Lit.
There is no way to do this succinctly. But if I had to: 1. she supports an alleged sexual assaulter who preyed on students while he was chair of a creative writing program; 2. continues to support this man as he actively works to silence conversation around rape culture in Can Lit; 3. supports a man who has been discovered to have spent the last so many decades pretending to be First Nation writer in order to make $$; 4. had her lawyers harass the Walrus until they pulled a piece by Zoe Whittall that was a bit critical of her; 5. has been recently vibing with Jon Kay and other MRA folks on twitter; 6. generally actively works to silence women writers who don’t suck up to her .. etc. etc.
-
So, the big, recent issue has been her ongoing support of Stephen Galloway, alleged sexual assaulter who preyed on students while chair of the UBC creative writing program.
She infamously signed the stupid UBC Accountable Open Letter in support of him. She’s also doubled down on her support as he moves forward in charging upwards of 25 people with libel for talking about rape culture on twitter.
-
The Stephen Galloway case:
Stephen Galloway was the chair of UBC’s creative writing program. From 2014-2016 several allegations came forward about him from both staff and students. These ranged from bullying to sexual assault. UBC then suspended his employment.
In response to this, the above open letter was published claiming that the University “acted irresponsibly” and chose to go about the allegations in a manner that was “severely damaging Professor Galloway’s reputation and affecting his health,” denying Galloway of his right to due process.
However, I think Alicia Elliott put it perfectly in a Twitter statement: “In cases of sexual assault, sexual harassment & rape, the criminal justice system (and society) centre the accused and his comfort, while ignoring the victim’s needs. The UBC Accountable letter did the same thing. It wasn’t calling for systemic change; it was upholding [the] status quo.”
Subsequent to this, Galloway brought forward over twenty libel cases against various and sundry writers, colleagues and the women who brought forward the sexual assault charges. Those charged include Alicia Elliott and Mandi Grey. This is all in an attempt to bring about a chill effect to the conversation of rape culture in Can Lit.
And it worked, for the most part. After he brought forward the libel cases the conversation dried up over night. This is because Canada’s libel laws heavily favour the prosecution and not the defendant.
Galloway, though, is really just angry at having to suffer consequences for his shitty behaviour and wants to take it out on everyone.
From The Toronto Star:
AB [unnamed complainant who brought the initial sexual assault charges against Galloway] subsequently told a couple of professors and a friend of the alleged assaults in November 2015 and wrote a letter to the UBC president, claiming she had been sexually assaulted by an unnamed professor, according to her court filings. She asserts that she had a “moral and social duty” to report the allegations.
Lawyers for AB also told the court the independent investigator never used the words “not substantiated” or “unsubstantiated” in reference to the sexual assault allegations. “Ms. Boyd’s words were that ‘on a balance of probabilities’ she was ‘unable to find’ that the sexual assaults ‘occurred,’” their written submissions state, adding that Boyd did find AB’s allegations of sexual harassment to be credible.
Here’s a Globe and Mail on the latest about the case (behind a paywall unfortunately)
VICE piece that has a bit of an update on the case as well.
Atwood has double downed on her support of Galloway throughout this entire debacle - from beginning to present day.
Because power protects power.
-
Additionally, Margaret Atwood has expressed support for Joseph Boyden after it came out that he’s been doing a Pretend-indian shtick. (Which is racist. So very racist.)
More recently, Margaret Atwood has been retweeting MRAs, being lauded by the likes of Jon Kay for being anti-Feminist (essentially, which is a stance she’s long had tbf), using her power and presence to silence writers like Alicia Elliott and Zoe Whittall, and is generally demonstrating her clear and vested interest in maintaining the status quo of a white, mostly-male dominated Canadian Lit (and art) scene.
And, as I’ve said before on the Margaret Atwood subject:
It’s also hard because I understand there are lines you have to erase to succeed as a woman in the Lit establishment, especially in the cliquey, arrogant Canadian Lit scene. But when you buy in so much to the narrative that white, cis men in the Lit scene perpetuate you have to wonder at what cost did you acquire your power?
There are ways to be a successful, powerful woman in literature - I think Ursula K LeGuin is a fantastic example of how to use power for good - and I just am so sad Margaret Atwood continues to steadily become The Literal Worst.
Also, very petty but w/e, I remember hearing a story that she went into a store at Bay and Bloor looking for wine glasses - like a really posh, expensive store. It’s Bay and Bloor you can’t breathe in a store there without spending $400. Anyway, the store had only two options for wine glasses: one super pricey and the other on the more affordable end. And Margarette Atwood got so mad that this store only carried two options (it was not, it should be noted, a store specializing in kitchen or dish ware) and that she had to pay for the nicer ones. She treated the staff horribly. And it’s like, go to fucking Homesense Maggie. You’re not above Winners
-
And it’s like, I’m not one of those people who is like “burn all her work; never read anything by her ever again” because that’s a stupid position to take. Her books have held value and do hold value. That she was one of the first women to ascend in Canadas’s dick-swinging literary world is a net positive for all women. That said, I do think more of a nuanced view should be held of her than is currently the case. We can acknowledge that she did do a lot of firsts as a woman in Can Lit, while also not ignoring her racism, her rape apologist attitude, her tendency to trample down up and coming women writers, her sympathy for the MRA world view ... etc.
Anyway, a reckoning needs to happen in Can Lit about the voices we choose to amplify and what we want art and literature to look like.

love-e.pettersson
ive been working on this for a few days and im kinda proud of it! would love some feedback from you or requests for other story lines, i promise i’ll stop doing the friends to lovers storylines haha. i also accidentally deleted this and i was so sacred i couldnt get it back but here it is! i hope you enjoy.
*lowercase intended!*
2.2k words
he loves you, you know that right?
“why did you drag me here, i really don’t like hockey and you know that.” you said as you sighed to your bestfriend lucie while she pulls you down to your seats in rogers arena.
“i know you don’t.” lucie said with a bright smile on her face. “but, you’re gonna learn to like it.” you look at her in confusion. “so, this is your way of torturing me as if you don’t already torture me enough by bringing me to parties.” you said while sitting down and looking at the players who are starting to get on the ice. “maybe.” lucie said with a wide grin and a mischievous look on her face before puck drop starts.
you’ve never been big on hockey, which is surprising considering you have lived in vancouver your whole life and your family is super big hockey fans. you also aren't the most extroverted person. sure, you’d go out to bars sometimes but mostly just with your close friends.
“what part of this sport do you even like?” you said as the game is going into the third period the canucks are now up 4-1 against the opposing team which you don’t even really know who they are. “well, if I’m being honest some of them are really hot but mostly cause of the sport.” you scoffed at her response. “none of them are hot from where i can see.” lucie looked at you with a shocked look. “oh you’ll get it once you get to know the players more.” you give her a confused look and put your full attention back to the game.
-
canucks ended up winning the game 5-2, lucie was very happy about it and you could tell cause she wanted to go out for a couple drinks and you didn’t want to say no so you agreed to go.
you had been at the bar for about twenty minutes and lucie was already gone which isn’t surprising, she was probably sleeping with some guy right now.
you started to panic a little when a creepy old dude came up to you and started hitting on you. “hey pretty girl, want to come home with me?” he started putting his hand on your arm which was resting on the table. you look around for lucie in panic but she’s no where to be found.
you then feel a pair of arms sneak around your waist and you get even more freaked out.
“hey babe, sorry i was gone for so long.” elias says to you with a smile but then proceeds to give the creepy dude the alien death stare which worked. after the dude leaves elias faces you and starts speaking. “sorry i touched you like that, it looked like you were alone and that guy was creeping you out so i thought you could use some help.” he shoots an apologetic smile at you.
“its okay,” you give him a smile back. “thank you a lot actually, i have no idea where my friend went.” you take another look around the bar before looking back and him.
“i’m elias by the way.” he smiles at you while holding his hand out for you to shake it. “y/n.” you say before shaking his hand.
“so elias, what are you doing in this bar on a thursday night?” you gesture for him to sit down next to you. “if i told you, you wouldn’t believe me.” elias lets out a soft laugh while sitting down across from you. “tell me, i wanna know.” elias sighs lightly before he starts speaking again. “i’m with them,” he gestures over to brock, jake, quinn, thatcher and troy. you look over to see them all waving at you and laughing at elias, you laugh softly and wave back at the before turning your attention back to elias. “ah, so i’m guessing you’re on the canucks?”
elias lets out a nervous laugh. “yeah, why don’t we go somewhere else where the boys aren’t up my ass?” you take another sip out of your drink. “i would love to.” he holds out his hand for you and as you guys walk out you can hear the guys chirping, but when you look over to elias you can see him giving the death stare to the boys and it makes you laugh. “you have a scary death stare jeez.” elias leads you to his car. “that’s surprisingly what the fans love me for.” he smiles at you before opening the car
door for you.
-
“…and that’s all what led me to being on the canucks.” elias said to you while eating a chip out of the chip bowl you had prepared. it had been a couple hours since you guys left the bar and went back to your apartment, you don’t know why but it felt like you and elias had such a strong bond already that you both felt like you can talk for hours and hours and never get tired of each other, he felt the same way too. “jeez, i kinda sound like a douche. i’ve been talking about myself all night, please tell me more about you.” elias said to you while you laughed at his words.
“it’s all good, i’ve been the one asking questions anyways.” you smiled while responding to him. “no seriously, tell me something about you before i have to go which i really don’t want to by the way.”
you look at the time and realize its almost twelve am so you proceed to give him a quick response. “well, i’ve lived in vancouver my whole life. and i’m currently going to ubc as a nursing student.” you smiled at his now very amused face.
“see, that’s something i wouldn’t have known if you didn’t say it,” he laughs a little before he finishes his sentence. “can i get your number? i have practice early tomorrow morning but i’m free for the rest of the day if you want to hang out.”
you smile at his words and take his phone from him. “of course you can, i’m free tomorrow too just give me a call.” you said while handing his phone back to him after you’ve entered your number. elias gives you a wide grin and you both get up so you could walk him to the door. “goodnight elias.” you look up at him with a smile as he’s standing in the doorway. “goodnight y/n, sweet dreams.” he said and then started to walk down the hallway towards the elevator. “pettersson!” you called out at him and he turns around confused. “text me when you get home.” he gives you the thumbs up and you close your door and head to bed.
no ones ever shown this much attention to elias before, at least no one he’s truly cared about.
he smiled to himself on his drive home cause he was excited to text you again.
*contact name changed to “y/n<3”*
text message to y/n<3:i just got home, thank you for the awesome night :).
-
it’s been a couple weeks since you and elias had met at the bar, you basically hung out with each other anytime you could.
you were each others best friends at this point, sure the guys would make fun of elias for being in love with you but you couldn’t see it, elias knows he has some feelings for you but he wasn’t sure about it yet. he also didn’t want to risk the amazing friendship you guys had started.
“hey, are you coming to the game tonight?” elias asked over the phone to you.
you let out a sigh before you start speaking. “i’ll try, schools been really hard lately but i should be able to finish studying tonight.” elias could hear the tiredness in you voice and it hurt him to see you like this. “y/n, its okay. you don’t have to try and make it, focus on school its way important. you have many more games of mine that you can watch.” he left out a soft chuckle at the end of his sentence.
“i’ll still try though, i’ll give you a text if i can make it.” you said to him as you looked at the last large text book you had to read through and look at the giant pile of coffee cups surrounding your desk.
“okay, love you, i gotta go.” “love you too e, good luck.” you both quickly exchanged goodbyes as you started reading your last text book. you knew there was no way you were going to be able to make it to his game tonight and you felt really bad, you sighed it off as you put your attention back to studying and occasionally looking at the canucks game that was now playing on your tv.
-
the game had ended, canucks lost by one but petey is a sore loser so obviously he was sad, which made him show up at your apartment, he brought pizza from your favourite place downtown.
you were passed out on the couch though, which resulted in elias having to pull out his spare key and sneaking into your apartment.
“elias?” you mumbled out as you felt him sit next to where you were laying on the couch, he motioned for you to lay you head on his lap and you did.
“hey sleepy girl, i brought our favourite pizza.” he said to you with a smile. no matter how bad of a day elias was having, you could always make him smile.
you positioned your head so you’re now facing up at him and you give him a big smile. “thank you, can we snuggle and watch a movie?” elias starts rubbing your cheek softly. “of course we can y/n.”
the night ended with you and elias falling asleep on the couch together while watching a movie he had picked out, you both forgot about all the stress from today and just enjoyed the moment.
-
“he loves you, you know that right?” brock said to you as he came by and sat next to you.
it was the start of summer, tanev decided to host a little barbecue for the whole team before everyone left vancouver and went back to their home towns for the summer.
you were sitting in the backyard watching elias talk to huggy. “what?” you said to brock with confusion. “no he doesn’t.”
brock scoffed at your response. “dude, you can’t be serious. how do you not see it.”
you thought about what brock said for awhile before you gave him a response. “does he talk about me?” you looked at brock while taking a sip of your drink.
“does he talk about you? of course he fucking does y/n, all the time. especially when you don’t show up to our games, it’s worse when we’re on the road.”
you smile to yourself at what brock said.
-
you were quite tipsy by the end of the night and elias didn’t want to let you go home alone, so you spent the night at his place.
“elias?” you said in your sweet drunken tone as you both settled into his bed, and you faced your body in his direction.
“yes?” he said while playing with your hair softly.
“brock said something to me earlier,” you said while pulling your body close to his.
“of course he did,” he said with a sigh. “what’d he say this time?”
“apparently you talk about me a lot?” you said with a soft laugh and your fingers now tracing up and down his back.
“yeah, yeah i do. i talk shit about you all the time.” he says sarcastically knowing where this conversation was going.
“hey!” you said as you playfully punched him. “i was going to do something but i guess not anymore.” you said with a huff.
he lifts your chin up to face him. before you knew it you guys were kissing each other, it was a soft, long and sweet kiss.
elias pulled away with a big grin on his face and you did too. you talked to each other for the rest of the night, you ended up falling asleep before elias did but he did too shortly after.
you woke up to the smell of elias making waffles, you hugged him from behind and he didn’t even notice you were awake until you did that.
“it smells really good,” you said to elias before kissing his cheek and begging for him to hug you.
he pulls you into his grip and whispers in your ear. “do you wanna go to sweden with me for the summer?”
you look up at him with slight shock. “yeah, why not.” you said to him with a smile and he gets very excited and spins you around, you kiss for awhile until you smell something burning and you pull away.
“shit.” elias mumbles as he deals with the burnt waffles and you’re both laughing your asses off.

I am about 5km from besting my June last year.
I am in doubt though.
I spent yesterday with the grandkids. We went to a Maritime Museum and then a space exhibit and planetarium. After that we went to Granville Island in the middle of Vancouver for some food. Great spot that which is why it is full of tourists.
Up until then it was a great sunny day with two rambunctious kids. Until the 4 year old almost killed me after getting ice cream. Not quite that bad, but he ran under my legs and I went down like a bag of sand.
Usually I fall at 20kph and the damage is worse. This time I have a scraped knee, a cut on my right hand and a massive bruise on my left palm. I guess that took the brunt of the impact. I weigh just shy of 200 lbs and I did not want to land on the child. No tuck and roll, just over and oh hell that hurts.
Next day I am fine, but my left hand is 50% off line. I wonder if I will be able to hold the handlebars for my Tuesday ride. I am taking vitamin i and hope it recovers enough. I just need 5 FN klicks.
If I get Tuesday and Thursday in the books I will have 67km more.
I have less distance than an average year, but I have built good fitness. Almost full summer shape. The club ride was yet another loop to Stanley Park. The route planning is 5 out of 10. I said at the meet up I would be going home by UBC to stretch out the distance.
When we got out to SP about 8 others said they would with me too, so we had a solid bunch free of the "leaders" that are still learning the craft. That was a gas. We had a good group including several women and I and two others pulled at the front.
The loop went down to Spanish Banks then up that damn hill. I was not the last person up, but almost. Going down SW Marine was with a headwind, but the hill compensated for it. I pulled at the front almost the whole way down and we hit 51 kph. I am good downhill. Gravity helps for a change. The best part was the group hung together and did a solid pace line.
I have said it before the hardest part of a pace line is holding the wheel in front of you. Leading the line is relatively easy, you only have to hold a consistent pace. When it all goes well it is a total gas. When I finally peeled off and went to the back each person said "that was fun, great pull" or words to that effect. Oh and nobody was dropped.
By the end I had 82 km down so overall it was a good day.
